Totally Youthful Tuesday

Trixie is a Senior in high school. She has two goals. Save enough money to buy a set of Doctor Who figurines at the comic book store, and she wants to be third in her class. Right now Ben is third, and so, that means she’s gonna take him down. Then a wrench is thrown into her plan when her best friend starts dating Ben’s best friend, and, suddenly, they’re thrown together as well. Can they find common ground for the sake of their friends? Oh, and, then, there’s a big kerfuffle when Trixie’s BFF gets expelled for cheating, but, Trixie believes not all there is as it seems. So, sides must be picked regarding that issue too.

It’s a book that was chock full of drama for sure. The characters were all awesome too, oh, and, I definitely appreciated all the fandom stuff in the book as well. And, come to find out (after I’d read it) that it’s based on the Shakespeare play Much Ado About Nothing. I may have to re-read that play too.

Okay I do actually very much want to know what's in the Tea of Forgetting, though. "Ugh. Probably Lipton." No, shut up, what is that?? WHAT IS IT??

Like, the Tea of Seeing is made out of dried monster meat, and has been a thing for almost as long as the Ladybirds themselves. This is a known phenomenon, everybody has learned from 150+ years of experience that drinking powdered grub bits will let you See them from now on. The Tea of Forgetting, meanwhile, has apparently only existed for like 25 years? Like, the only reason it came about was because of one tainted grub water fiasco, after which HQ was like "Yeah, okay, we need to have some kind of contingency for this" and put research & development onto finding some way of unfucking the... then-presumed permanent?... changes grub organs make to the human body. And it WORKED.

This is never touched on again because Prue's not allowed to seriously ask these questions, and her mom has approximately negative interest in the duty-shirking that the tea represents to her, so she's never bothered finding out.

I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW, THOUGH, ANITA.

WHAT DOES HEADQUARTERS HAVE THAT CAN COUNTERACT SIGNIFICANT BIOLOGICAL CHANGES TO THE HUMAN BODY?

Avi's commitment to refusing to learn/use the names of the Criminal Element is so funny to me. Like, she knows Sasha's name purely because as sister-scouts, she has to- everyone else is referred to almost exclusively by their relationship to her, and it's the most Little Cousin thing ever.
