i adore ryusumi too like oh myg od,,.. wahh.... the sweeties. sumikita is so rare but like. i think they could be kinda cute too?? sumigoro is V platonic soulmates to me like my god theyre so. clenches fist. honestly whole royal trio tbh is just. "they can make each other worse" and each of them thinking "thank god im the normal one here" thats it thats the whole dynamic. and its so funny.

shusumi is cute too but honestly i think i prefer both ren and goro have somethin of a platonic soulmates or older sibling dynamic with sumire. they have adopted her okay. sumiann isnt one i see a lot either but they.... THEM.....

any mishima ship is super funny imo but like, theyre cute. love yuuki having a crush on ren but like. the game makes it near impossible for you to actually be fucking nice to him so i always get the vibe that ren would rather keep him at a distance, even tho they appreciate him and care about him.

its okay tho cause i say hes good friends with the OG trio + shiho and they vibe. yuuki crushing on goro, to his own horror? hilarious. and weirdly enough shiho and ren?? idk what their acronym is. but. oh my god. theyre actually weirdly cute? but i see them having disaster twins energy. theyre absolute menaces.

“Best Friend” / 親友

I’ve been mulling over this for a few days, wondering if I’m overthinking things, or if there is actually something to it.

Gojo and Geto are like a pair of parents. And I think it’s deliberate. Hear me out.

See, from a non-native pov, I can pick apart this coined phrase for best friends, shinyuu “親友” or “family friend” into its individual kanji: 親 and 友

The first kanji on its own, oya “親” can be read as “parents”. The second kanji on its own is tomo “友” can be read as “friend”. How a kanji character is read changes according to context within a sentence, topic, or what it is paired with. It can be difficult to explain if you’re not used to the language, so I’ll leave it at that for the purposes of not complicating this post.

They both considered each other their 親友 - best friend. There is only one pair of people who considered each other this “best friend” terminology in the series. Gege could have used Nakama 仲間, or Brother, or even just Tomodachi 友達. TaisetsunaHito 大切な人 is definitely a step too far. No other best friend. Yuji is several people’s “brother” but not best friend. Gojo and Geto are a pair. A duo. The canon-confirmed “たった一人の親友” my one and only best friend status is mutual.

As friends, we know they split up. There is no mention of 親友 / best friend-ism at this point. But they unequivocally considered each other as such, and they never ever had another 親友 until their dying day.

The fact that there is the kanji for “parent” in the phrase for “best friend” is poetic. “Oya/親” is obviously the same word used by Gojo in the kfc breakup scene, because that’s the kanji for it, and that’s what Geto did - kill his parents.

I’ll use this to illustrate:

親 = parents (consisting of mum + dad).

親友🤍 + 親友🖤

To add to the latter, this potential theme, they both go onto adopting kids. Their different parenting styles speak for themselves ofc, but that’s by the by.

Gojo and Geto’s separation played a part in setting off this huge domino effect too. Geto also described how his parents are not his only family now. We also know he considers close non-blood-related persons to be as “family” - like how he offered Kuroi the acceptance of her feelings towards Amanai as “family”. He saw Gojo and the school as family - that is, until he saw how the system was willing to sacrifice their own kind. It isn’t a stretch to see the parallels between what Geto is sharing about severing that bond with his parents (and also with Gojo) and finding another “family” by choice.

Obviously Gege isn’t drawing the parallel by bringing parents into it just due to their best friend status. I headcanon that it was to start anew, not be a hypocrite, to spare them from the monster he’d become, and to eliminate the likelihood they’d be used against him in any way. The last 2 reasons would be to drive in the emphasis that there is a similarity with Rika (who was rumoured to have been the reason for her parents’ deaths although they occurred separately) and... that this would mean that Geto was also separating from his “family” in HI - the duo that was Gojo and Geto. Gojo ascended without him in his quest to become the strongest, and Geto descended to pursue his twisted form of meaning to make his ideal a reality.

It might just be reaching and a coincidence, but I remember that Gege loves these little itty bitty details in character and lore design - like birthdates, dates, flower language, religion, specific kanji used for names, etc - just to name a few. It helps him illustrate significance and I guess adds a touch of sophistication and layering in his storytelling. I absolutely love it. We know by design SatoSugu / Gojo and Geto are meant to be counterparts, so black & white, yin and yang, light and dark, elite and common, even their names are quite fitting, GojO SatoRU and GetO SuguRU .

The kanji / characters selected are also deliberate - Satoru 悟 being “enlightenment” and Suguru 傑 being “outstanding”. The Gojokesa 五条袈裟 was also deliberate, Geto 夏油 has the word “summer” as part of his name and his birthday is setsubun (1st day of spring) where ghosts/evil spirits are chased away. Gojo’s is the heaviest snowfall.

My examples are limited to just satosugu, but you know other characters have similar situations with how the kanji for their names were chosen - e.g. simplest that come to mind is 七海建人 Nanami : 七 = 7 and his ratio technique 7:3 and his hair style too 70%30% parting, 海 = sea, 建人 = human builder (…lol, Gojo entrusted Yuji to him after all…); utahime 歌 = song/music, etc.

My point is that there are a lot of little details like these, so I concluded that I’ll just share this thought I had. The pair of 親友 breaking up is a bit like “partners in crime” no longer being partners anymore, and went about their separate ways but fostered “families” of their own.

TLDR: scene in front of the KFC was really a breakup (◞‸◟)

Disclaimer : I only studied Japanese for a little while. AA dialogue is pretty simple though. Also English isn't my native language either. Feel free to correct me on anything wrong here. Also note that I'm not trying to make the translations sound natural, I'm mostly trying to explain what the words are saying, sometimes I'll be more literal than others. Translation =/= localization. Lit: Unrequired love, lovers, you haven't made an establishment clearly uh. Comprehensible: (whether it's) Unrequired love, (or whether you're) lovers, you haven't established it clearly uh. Edgeworth 設定‥‥？ Settei...? "Decided"…? Shouldn't the parties involved naturally just know…? Established...? (lt: Establishment...?) A lot is added in the ENG. Quite honestly, the first time I experienced this dialogue (in English), I didn't think much of it. I saw it as Edgeworth thinking something like 'How in tarnation don't you know whether you're together ot not?' Shouldn't you know?' That was my own reaction in the first place. I thought it was saying more about Paups' lovesick character than anything else. But the JP with its brevity made me question if that was the original meaning. He sounds confused. Still, I'm not quite sure. I would say in general though, it makes sense that in his mind, you don't have to actually communicate by talking about your feelings. He is pretty bad at it in the first place... communicating what he feels, I mean. He tends to talk around things, he's a bit roundabout. He tries to say 'thank you' to express his gratefulness, doesn't really work, and is far more successful at showing appreciation when he says stuff like 'A man appeared and stood fast against that selfish me' (ending of 2-4), such a thing just works better for him. He's stating the facts, but not his feelings themselves. That man appeared and stood fast -> it's a simple fact. He doesn't say anything about how that made him feel. When he tries, he feels awkward, foolish. Something that doesn't suit him.

Lance and I, we were childhood friends. ....Ahhh! I said it! Note that 'osananajimi', 'childhood friends', is the term used for Edgeworth and Phoenix's relationship in the JP version.

Edgeworth （そんなに、 　恥ずかしがることだろうか？） (Sonna ni, hazukashigaru koto darou ka?) (I don't see how that's anything to be embarrassed about…) Such a thing, is it something to be embarassed about? 'Darou ka' can be translated in many ways. 'I wonder if...' 'is it so', for example. Basically it expresses something akin to uncertainty. EDIT - a correction: 'sonna ni' actually means 'like that, to that extent, so much, to that point, to such a degree' So it can be translated in many ways: (To that point), is it something to be (so) embarassed about? Is it something to be embarassed about to that extent? Is it something to be so embarassed about? This last part is the most hilarious to me. He doesn't think it's something someone should be embarassed about, but he's also kind of uncertain. 'Wait, is it? Is it though? Am I missing something?' Kinda seems like Edgeworth is very confused. 'Should you be embarassed for such a thing? Is it supposed to be embarassing? I wonder if it's an embarassing thing?' And the maybe inner : 'Should I be embarassed about such a thing?' It's probably insignificant beyond showing Edgeworth's apparent obliviousness to other people's feelings and general misunderstanding of how some people perceive and experience romantic relationships, but it did earn a chuckle from me. So I thought I'd share.

a look into kihyun’s bag(s) ☆

whatever bag kihyun has chosen to sport for whatever he’s doing—whether that be a casual backpack hanging off of his back or well-worn shoulder bag bouncing around him as he runs from one place the next with his usual endless energy—there’s always two things that’ll be completely certain: one, that said bag will be filled to the brim, occasionally spilling over with everything he’s attempted to cram in there, and two, it’ll be absolutely covered in decorations. stickers, keychains—his favourite is a candy era mark keychain, and he has about 3 of them—pins, you name it, and he’s probably stuck it on there in some capacity. even when he’s in his low-effort outfits and feeling a little lazy in his dress, the one thing that’ll always be colourful is his bag. it’s loud, too, and while he might be able to creep up on his members and give them a fright without the addition of one of the countless bags and backpacks he’s acquired over the years, when he has them on you can hear him coming from a mile away (which he finds mildly annoying when he wants to scare jisung but the maknae has already turned around and levelled him with an unimpressed stare by the time he gets there, alerted by all the jangling the singer is doing).

inside his chosen bag for the occasion, as previously mentioned, you’ll probably find enough knick-knacks for a lifetime. of course there’s the essentials: his phone, laptop, wallet, keys, charger cables, headphones, his passport if it’s for the airport, and his shitty & nearly-broken 3DS (which he uses mostly when he's bored, and only for a few select games he’s found he can tolerate more than any of the battleground games jeno is always trying to get him into. his go-to’s are tomodachi life, mario kart, luigi’s mansion, and, on occasion, mortal kombat). but there’s also quite a few things he usually has on him as well. the compact digital camera he’s began to take places more often, occasionally a manga volume or two, sunglasses, jewellery, packs of playing cards, odd photocards in their various holders from his extensive collection, stickers, lighters, both half-empty & brand-new flavour cartridges, extra laces for his shoes, random lego figurines from one place or another, at least one pair of extra headphones, and of course general items he's just never gotten around to getting rid of: things like receipts, or train tickets, or beads or gems that have fallen off one thing or another—the list only goes on.

safe to say, it’s never a boring experience going through kihyun’s bag. he wouldn’t be much help in a crisis (unless renjun has reminded him to stuff his various vitamins and painkillers in there, along with a few plasters for good measure), but he would be a great source of entertainment if anybody was in need of a little lift-me-up. he really doesn’t mean for it to get to such a mess, but over time it just piles up and he can never quite bring himself to sit down and properly empty it all out again. renjun and mark have definitely tried to help him when he comes to them with a determined look in his eyes and says that that day is the day, but about twenty minutes in he usually ends up either getting bored and playing on his 3DS for the rest of the time or making excuses for every single little item inside by providing the older members with some sort of anecdote to let them convince him to keep it (even if it’s completely ridiculous—because with mark especially, if kihyun looks up at him with wobbly eyes and begs him not to throw away an old & empty pack of gum, he’s not going to do a thing).

overall, while it’s a complete mess, to kihyun his bag makes perfect sense. it’s almost like a magic hat, with the way he can dive a hand into it and come up with just the thing he was searching for. he acts overly devastated when he loses so much as a button from any of them, and uses every one he gets until it’s on the very brink of falling to pieces in the middle of the street. a few people have referred to him here and there as the ‘korean jane birkin’ with how well-loved all of his bags clearly are.
