Very proud of this one for sure. I remember jumping to make these the instant the outfit transparents were posted because this had to be PB's most r/PointlesslyGendered wardrobe yet. I love how pretty much the entire fandom just responded with a resounding NO to that wardrobe. And it makes me very happy to see these edits do so well.

2. OG High School Story- Edits- Evie and the gang in pajamas I headcanon for them. 66 notes. Posted Jan 15 2024.

For some reason I wasn't expecting this one to get a lot of notes haha. Nevertheless, I am very proud of it. I also got to solidify some headcanons for what the LIs' bedrooms look like, because honestly we needed more time with them and more chances for our MC to visit their houses and hang out and stuff like that lol.

I still hope to do a sleepover fic for them one day.

3. OG High School Story x It Lives in the Woods- Edits- Aiden Zhou possesed by Redfield. 51 notes. Posted Jun 18 2024.

Definitely proud of this one. Arguably my trickiest edit yet, I had to crop the eye transformations from Dan and fit them onto Aiden's eyes. And considering the transformation had a lot of vein-looking details there was quite a bit of inconsistency. But somehow I pulled it off.

Also, I quite enjoy imagining a corrupted, possessed, and/or evil Aiden.

My first art on this blog! Honestly I was very nervous about sharing art for Choices. My style can be very hit-or-miss to me, and even for the ones that I think did turn out well like this one... IDK. IDK how to put it. But eventually I decided fuck it, I wanna share visual depictions of certain ideas and edits are too limiting for that. I was definitely surprised at how relatively well this piece did, but I'm proud nonetheless and now I am indeed making Choices art more regularly.

Also fun fact, this was made back when I thought ROD was annoying and poorly paced and melodramatic. But I replayed it this past May, and I actually found it an enjoyable, not-that-hard-to-follow, solid story.

My second ever Secret Pal event! I love participating in these events and I definitely had fun making this gift. Editing MAH Donovan's hands holding the camera from his CG onto ID Gabe's football CG was... surprisngly not super difficult (though placing the ring I should do more edits that take on a comic format with funny little stories/dialogues like this, honestly. It would be fun.

born and raised a flyers fan, somehow turned into an avs bruins and canucks fan. time zones are a bitch so i mostly watch flyers and bruins and the other two when the games aren’t at unreasonable times!

also getting into pwhl hockey but i didn’t watch the whole first season so i haven’t picked a team to support. i will be continuing to withhold support because i have seen the possibility of a philadelphia team! (i can’t get attached to the sirens and then discover that in fact i have to hate them bc the philly team has a rivalry w them)

I also enjoy phillies baseball but i don't know any baseball names if they aren't on the phillies, and i don't follow the whole league. (i picked it up because i missed hockey and wanted a sport). i also enjoy eagles football on occasion (aka playoffs).

I climb regularly and i love watching bouldering (+ sometimes lead) events. i haven’t been watching the world cups this year live but i watch them when i can. climbing is my favorite sport (second favorite to watch, only behind hockey).

During the regular season this is like 80% a flyers/hockey blog and 20% other things (climbing, phillies, eagles, i also enjoy musicals, archery (not to watch, i just like to shoot sometimes), and planes so other stuff like that shows up sometimes, and sometimes i will bitch about working retail because working retail is the worst thing ever i think).

You seem really knowledgeable about football. Is it just due to long years of watching, or have you played yourself? I'd very much like to progress in my understanding myself - I've gotten a bit better after a few month of regularly watching games and reading analysis, but not to the point where I can confidently analyze a game myself.

Ahh thanks (//ω//) Yeah I've played. Also due to a certain amount of watching I'm sure, as I followed the men's game (Premier League and stuff) for quite a while before getting into woso more.

That's great! Hrm, I'm trying to think back on my football journey to see what I could suggest for you but it's quite hard bc I didn't have a pinpoint moment or any specific resource that helped me build my deeper understanding of the game... 🤔

If you're willing, I would say go to the men's football side for the better analyses and in-depth content. Even just watching post-match reviews on Sky Sports/MOTD can tell you a lot from the way they breakdown key scenes. Other than that I also watch a fair amount of tactical breakdown videos on Youtube too. I follow the men's Arsenal team, and channels like Catsenal and Latte Firm have really high quality content (never boring too, even when tactics can get dry sometimes). Imo, such underrated channels that deserve so much more plaudits than those reactionary ones that are just shouting about a goal (although those have an audience too, tbf).

The woso world is still far behind in terms of having just as good coverage; even the match analysis in the new Sky broadcast deal is a bit eh and has ways to go imo... But there's also great insights once in a while like this Casey Stoney video from the Coaches' Voice masterclass, I follow this series with male coaches so I was so hyped when they did an episode with her and it didn't let me down! Worth checking out even for someone who isn't so big on tactics because it also sheds a lot of light into the mind of manager and understanding their approach to a football game. (Plus, Casey Stoney's one references her United game against Arsenal so that's a bonus)

Hope you have fun with it, and tbh my final sentiment is that it doesn't have to be all complicated and serious either. You can just talk to friends/fans after a match and that discussion in itself furthers one's understanding bit by bit. My blog is certainly one that everyone is welcome to have a chat with too! :)

Well I mostly watch AEW although I was very into Progress before the pandemic (which is a London-based indie promotion that's also basically the feed source for NXT UK) but idk whether or in what state Progress will come back not just bc of the pandemic but bc this year's wrestling abuse scandals involved a lot of their management and core roster so they've had to really reshuffle.

anyway that's an unnecessarily grim diversion let's talk AEW (I'm a few episodes behind bc I watch on Zoom with my pals and it's easy to fall behind while trying to line up our schedules, we're gonna watch Winter Is Coming tonight)

This blog's opinions are:

Women's wrestling is severely underrated and that's the fault of the promotion not the fans, AEW has a phenomenally talented women's roster with a big fan following but consistently gives them no air time, very little space to develop plots, one match per episode that the commentators half-ignore, and only ever one plot at a time. I love Hikaru Shida, Nyla Rose and Britt Baker as characters but there's a huge women's roster of compelling characters who only ever show up on Dark or for a single bout not tied into any particular plot on Dynamite and it's very wearing. When they launched AEW they made a big deal about equal pay for the men and women's rosters and paying the same regardless of gender and fan status, purely based on card position, but that means absolutely nothing if there's only ever one women's match and it's always at the same mid-card position. Sorry to open on a negative but it makes me so mad that WWE, the company which is notoriously misogynistic and whose director had to be shown Asian schoolgirl porn to accept that the audience would find Japanese wrestlers "sexy enough" to put in the ring, is somehow a better venue for women's wrestling than AEW. like fuckkkkkkkkk just treat the women's roster like you would the men's!!!!

on which note, AEW Heels, the Paid Fanclub For Women Who Like Wrestling, is the most half-assed attempt to court the female wrestling audience I've ever seen (and I watched WWE's Revolution pay-per-view where the line was 'isn't it nice that the men have allowed women to have their own PPV thanks to all the men who made this possible'). like ok I COULD give you money to Be A Female Fan OR, wild concept, you could do more than one women's match per episode on your flagship show and not relegate the women's tag title to YouTube

Relatedly, There's Too Much Wrestling. As you can probably tell from the fact I'm 4 episodes behind on Dynamite, I struggle enough to fit 2 hours of wrestling into my week, but AEW also expected me to keep up with Dark, BTE, and sometimes other side projects? and now also Impact and NWA and sometimes NJPW. and then if I want to recognise big names they're bringing in I would also have had to watch WWE which like. there's even more WWE than AEW. idk I'm a completionist and it's simply not possible to watch All The Relevant Wrestling bc that would be like. 20 hours a week and I have a job and a life and stuff. like I watch AEW Dynamite and BTE and that does me.

this is all very negative but I love wrestling! I got into it a couple of years ago and it's absolutely incredible to me I love the artistry I love the athleticism I love the creativity and the fun people have with their characters. and the reason I gave up on WWE as soon as AEW started up is that it feels so much like the wrestlers are given space to play and to find the stories they want to tell.

MJF is a DELIGHT he's like one of my favourite heels he's so loathsome and so much fun! and there's like a really good consistent emotional core to his overall storyline of desperate insecurity I'm so into it and I'm so hype about when inevitably Wardlow's gonna turn on him. I love the resonance of his relationship with Cody vs his relationship with Wardlow and also the extremely strong gay unrequited love vibes that keep popping up here.

Hikaru Shida is AMAZING I love her. did u know she makes her own ring gear and learnt to speak English pretty much from scratch when she joined AEW a year ago and is now cutting full promos in English? also her facial acting? 😘👌👌👌👌

Sonny Kiss is phenomenal I hope they're on Dynamite more bc not only is she a phenomenal character in their own right but when she started tagging with Joey Janela their in-ring chemistry actually made me LIKE Janela for the first time. also it warms my heart that JR, despite being kind of an old fogey, is regularly correcting other commentators on their pronoun use and vocally acknowledging that Sonny is nonbinary.

honestly JR does just warm my heart in general like he visibly struggled early on with getting out of the 2000s mindset on Female Wrestlers Are Sexy Divas and he accidentally misgendered Nyla Rose one time but he's been really open to criticism and often gone to bat for the trans and queer members of the roster. he seems like a nice guy and I'm glad he's here, which I didn't think I'd be saying a year ago yk?

I know I already said this but Chris Jericho is a phenomenon. he just makes everything FUCKING FUN every story he tells is wild and hilarious. The Inner Circle gives me life (on this blog we stan Ortiz) and his beef with Orange Cassidy was pure gold.

Also Matt Hardy is here!!!! I love Matt Hardy, I think his Ultimate Deletion match with Bray Wyatt was what made me realise how fun wrestling can be and he always brings the creativity. He's been through a lot of shit in his life, I'm really happy that he's able to work with a promotion that gives him room to be as hogwild as he wants because Matt Hardy's great strength is being absolutely off-the-chain weird. I love him.

Speaking of Matt Hardy and the Inner Circle have you seen the Stadium Stampede from this summer? honestly worth buying the whole PPV just for that it's wild choice after wild choice for 45 minutes it might be the best wrestling match ever. idk if I like it better when Matt Jackson Northern Lights suplexes Sammy Guevara the entire length of a football field, when Matt Hardy chases Sammy with a golf cart, the whole bit where Adam Page just goes off and gets drunk in a bar and has a brawl with Jake Hager, the bit where Proud & Powerful try to drown Matt Hardy but every time he goes underwater he comes up in a different costume and persona - holy shit it's just amazing it's everything I love about wrestling

Moving away from AEW, the best wrestling storyline I've ever seen is Progress' story with Cara Noir and Ilya Dragonov. They're both phenomenal wrestlers but also the raw power and emotional weight of the story? it's simple but it's heartachingly beautiful I was lucky enough to be in the audience for the second of 3 matches in the story and I was nearly in tears it's so theatrical and balletic???? Check it out if you can it's in Progress' video archives (those are all pay-to-watch though. I think they're also on Amazon Prime for American viewers?)

Cara Noir is probably my favourite wrestler, although Nyla Rose, Charlotte Flair, Chris Jericho, Luchasaurus and Adam Page are all up there. He's just the most phenomenal physical performer and he really gets how much theatre is in wrestling, his facial acting is impeccable and he's not afraid to take hard bumps and really sell. also he just seems like a very sound person out of character (touch wood), he's very principled and takes his work and the wellbeing of his colleagues really seriously which is what you want in a wrestler

I’m really into bahama mamas when I can get my hands on them tbh but just really any of those mixed drinks that taste like juice? that’s what I’d grab if I was out drinking. and summer bbqs and things like that I’ll always take those sugary fruity drinks like smirnoff’s or mikes hard lemonades or seagrams. that sweet stuff!!!!  number of blankets you sleep with: one comforter in the fall/winter, a sheet in the summer. I run so hot I can’t sleep with any more than that. average sleep hours: hmm... technically my body feels it’s best when I manage to consecutively get 9 - 10 every night but realistically I probably give it anywhere from 5 - 7. random fact: hmm about me or just in general? if in general - sometimes wild stallions will trail bands (herds of wild mares with their one stallion) for YEARS looking for their “in” to try and steal one of the mares away or become strong enough to beat the band stallion in a fight to take all his mares from him. on one range in nevada there’s been records showing a bachelor stallion who has been trailing a herd and occasionally picking fights/trying to steal the mares for the past three years. also on rare occasions sometimes other stallions will act as a “second in command” of sorts to the band stallion, helping him protect the herd from other stallions and predators. however, while the stallions are there for protection from predators, etc. it’s actually one lead mare in the herd who’s the entire boss of the herd and decides EVERYTHING. she picks where the herd migrates to, which mares are even ALLOWED in the herd (if a stallion fights and brings a mare back but the lead mare doesn’t like her she’ll drive her away from the herd and fight the band stallion on it until that mare is gone) and is always seen at the front of the herd when they’re traveling. she has a lot of very important roles for the entire dynamic of the herd. the stallion is just the muscle, but SHE’S the brains and the heart of the family. if you meant a random fact about ME uhhh... 1. I like photography. Ok, that's nothing new if you follow my personal blog. I like travelling and capture those beautiful places I see. That’s why I enjoy photo modes in video games so much. The definition of "old" to me is when your forehead wrinkles when you raise your eyebrows (I know that’s wrong af, but please let me believe it since I’m still "young" according to this theory, haha) 3. Post 4: The letter C

Welcome back! It sure wasn't yesterday, how have you been? I'm fine thanks, been a little busy myself and had to put this project on the backburner as you can probably tell. I alluded to being really busy in the last post and that's been pretty much true for all of the past year. Luckily, things are looking a bit better up ahead so I might actually start posting regularly soon!

Much has happened outside of the blog too. I toyed with the idea of moving this beuat over to blogspot (where all the real emo blogs are anyway) when it looked like tumblr was self-destructing for a hot minute. But in the end cooler heads prevailed and it looks like tumblr is just gonna keep existing albeit with less popularity. In the emo world, 125, Rue Montmartre, the first band I covered about a year ago are releasing their discography on vinyl and are now on spotify. All thanks to my blog, I'm sure. Don't be fooled by my modest follower count

I actually have quite a few prestigious readers. Most notably perhaps being Prof. Anders Ahlén, a man important enough to have his own wikipedia page.

C has been the longest letter so far by far clocking in at a mighty 6.56 GB as opposed to the average of 2.8. I've been listening to it in phases with sometimes a month or more in between so it hasn't really been a coherent experience. It has been a real slog though, which is part of why I gave up several times. This has also been a letter with a great number of "famous" emo bands. Because part of the purpose of this listening experience is to experience 90's emo "as it was" rather than colored by nostalgia or what is deemed worthy of attention by the internet discourse I'm disqualifying bands that are prominent in the emo canon from best name, song or image. I will however still do a quick write up on them for those of you not as familiar with emo, chances are I'll reference them in the future so do take notes.

Emo classics

Cap'n Jazz

It's almost impossible to tell the story of 90's emo without Cap'n Jazz. Among their members they have Tim Kinsella, who would later go on to play in Joan of Arc and Owls, his brother Mike Kinsella who would later play in American Football as well as Owls, Their/They're/There and Owen and also Davey von Bohlen who would later play in the Promise ring. When they formed in '89 they where just a bunch teenagers, Mike being just 12. They released their first album 6 years later which goes by the title Burritos, Inspiration Point, Fork Balloon Sports, Cards in the Spokes, Automatic Biographies, Kites, Kung Fu, Trophies, Banana Peels We’ve Slipped on, and Egg Shells We’ve Tippy Toed Over, but is simply referred to as Schmap'n Schmazz by fans. Most of the lyrics where supposedly written by Tim one night while high on mushrooms. They have a wonderful surreal dadaist quality to them with lines such as Hey coffee eyes, you've got me coughing up my cookie heart or You are colder than oldness could ever be. The music is chaotic and full of a warm messy energy. I am personally absolutely enamored with their cover of Aha's Take on me which I insist on putting in as many playlists where it makes some sense whatsoever. As you can hear, Tims vocals do absolutely not Morten Harkets heights (not an easy feat in Tims defense) and you can plainly hear a teenagers voice falseto-cracking and it's absolutely amazing somehow.

Cap'n Jazz really hit the spot of this awkward sensitive yet punk energy that from the start was very central to emo. Although Cap'n Jazz are a big helping sillier and more pubertal than, say, Rites of Spring.

One popular quip about the Velvet underground is the following:

The Velvet Underground didn't sell many records, but everyone who bought one went out and started a band.

I suppose Cap'n Jazz is a bit like that for emo although their presence was perhaps felt as strongest around 2010 with bands such as Snowing, Glocca Morra and in particular Algernon Cadwallader aping their style.

Christie Front Drive

I think part of the reason for Cap'n Jazz's status as a cornerstone band stems from their originality. Christine Front Drive is in contrast a very prototypical 90's emo band. They have a sound that borrows heavily from both post-hardcore and indie-rock with the slightly whiny vocals typical for the genre and era. On their song November they sing Still the same // Fucked for what you've done // Still over // Staged over // November's almost done // Still the same which I think is a nice cross section of their lyrics (most of the rest of the song are just variations on the same words with "remember" also thrown into the mix). The overall sound is slow, moody and a bit dreamy, very typical of their brand of emo. As easy as it is to find bands that sound similar to CFD, I dare say that they did it better than most and that this is what has earned them their spot in the emo cannon.

Cursive

Cursive formed in 1995 and has since been together on and off up to the present day, the drive only has music up to 2005 though. This includes their 2003 release the Ugly Organ which was released by Saddle Creek and is the only one I've heard before starting this project. By that point they had already moved away from their emo roots though, and I'm glad to finally have gotten around to their earlier stuff. The Ugly Organ is artsy, catchy and a bit baroque, but also definitely on the outskirts of emo to the point where I'd perhaps describe it as an indie/alternative album if I wasn't talking about them in the context of emo. This doesn't mean that it isn't worth a listen because it absolutely is. Their early stuff is more typical of what the rest of the drive is like with a sound more in the ballpark of CFD but much more punk, with a higher tempo and angrier vocals while still maintaining a somewhat whiny voice, introspective lyrical content and the cold, big guitar sound typical to this branch of emo.

Car vs Driver

So far I've generally picked bands that stand out a bit because in a long stream of relative sameness, that's what you end up paying attention to. Car vs Driver is however not one of theses bands that stand out but rather pretty typical of the emocore sound. They do it pretty well though. They are undeniably punk, but with more introspective lyrics and a slightly melodic edge, which is exactly how emo was first conceived. One some of their tracks like the featured Without A Day day even flirt a bit more with an alt-rock sound but they also have songs that are a lot more hardcore like Livid Step.

When researching them I half expected them to be a pretty substantial band that I had somehow managed to miss, but they're actually very unheard of, something which I consider to be a shame.

I did however find that the drummer of the band has a blogspot at beyondfaliure.blogstopt.com where he catalogs various bands he's been a part of. There is a collection of Car vs Driver flyers as well as two live recordings and this summary he wrote for their discography

Car vs. Driver began when I was 17 years old. By the time we played our final show, I was 19. This band was the music of my life during a period when people usually experience the greatest amount of freedom, which is what I think of whenever I listen to this music now. There were so many new experiences: living on our own, meeting new people, getting a new perspective on life. Our lifestyle in turn gave us a new perspective on expressing music, and we poured all of our energy and emotion into it. Music that now seems a world away – music from a different life. It’s hard to remember that everything about being in a band at that time was simply making a 7”, buying the cheapest van you could find, and touring the country for the summer. There was no infrastructure to build your music around, which also removed its barriers. Instead of running our band like a corporation, we played peoples living rooms and basements, engaged in kickball tournaments, made record covers out of manila envelopes, slept on top of our van, cooked pasta, and played with some of the most amazing bands in the process. Bands that epitomized the time – like Spirit Assembly, Policy of 3, Friction, Current, The Yah Mos, Assfactor 4, Frail, Hoover, Freemasonry, Scout, and Inkwell. The experience we had is something that could never be recreated, and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have been a part of that moment in time. Christopher Robin

Christopher Robin is a screamo band that go pretty hard. The name is a funny contrast to this and the juxtaposition between childhood nostalgia and angsty screaming works really well.

My favorite picture

Featured is the cover to a demo tape by french screamo band Cather Mathra, which features songs such as Ils M'ont Oubliés (they forgot me) or Leur Révolution (their revolution). You can read more about them on psychoviolence, a blog dedicated to French punk & violence. I think that using a medieval (?) drawing for a cover is pretty cool, especially if you're a french screamo band.

Curiosly they don’t have any music on youtube, you’ll have to check out the drive if you want to listen to them. Tumblr has a limit of 5 embedded videos anyway, so that worked out nicely I suppose.
