Today I learned:
The Jessica Denson that I've been enjoying via the Meidas Touch Network is a Gracie Allen Award-winning, non-disclosure agreement fighter who battled with Trump, originally all on her own, eventually leading to the class-action decision that helped to put the notorious narcissist into the position that he's in, now!
A movie about her doesn't exist. Yet. However, there's this:
youtube
Popok, Meiselas, Cohen and Denson have all the approaches covered!
Are you still reading this? It's still ME writing it! Atypical tags for greater exposure are all of my own doing. I may or may not apologize, later...
A federal judge ruled Tuesday that a broad non-disclosure agreement that Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign required employees to sign is unenforceable.
U.S. District Court Judge Paul Gardephe’s ruling generally steered clear of the constitutional issues presented by such agreements in the context of political campaigns. Instead, the judge — an appointee of President George W. Bush — said the sweeping, boilerplate language the campaign compelled employees to sign was so vague that the agreement was invalid under New York contract law.

I read a LOT of books this year, which is always exciting. I also neglected to do much in the way of write ups during the year proper, so here are little opinions about all 84(!) book-books I read. I love to yap about what I read and I would love to talk about any and all of these. (Graphic novels and comics are gonna be their own post because there are also too many of those.) Bold are my top faves, headphones are things I read as audiobooks.
JAN
Less - Andrew Sean Greer
Shockingly funny book on a writer’s midlife gay crisis. I was a little mid on the end but the prose here was fantastic.
The Bullet Journal Method: Track the Past, Order the Present, Design the Future - Ryder Carroll
Beyond Bullets: Creative Journaling Ideas to Customize Your Personal Productivity System - Megan Rutell
Read about a million of these for a program; this was the only one worth recommending if you want to try journaling. (The official guide is Fine but it throws a lot at you at once.)
The 365 Bullet Guide: Organize Your Life Creatively, One Day at a Time - Zennor Compton
Lettering for Planners: A Step- - -Step Guide to Hand Lettering and Modern Calligraphy for Bullet Journals and Beyond - Jordan Truster and Jillian Reece
This should not have been a book.
Afterparties: Stories - Anthony Veasna So
I’ve been meaning to read this for years and years-- So was a friend of a friend-- and it was as excellent as I expected, and also made me tremendously sad that we won’t get more writing from him.
Disfigured: On Fairy Tales, Disability, and Making Space - Amanda Leduc 🎧
This is theory for a general audience but I still wished it was more robust-- Leduc’s arguments had about the academic rigor of a tumblr post, which is a shame.
Aftermath: Life in the Fallout of the Third Reich, 1945–1955 - Harald Jähner 🎧
Nation-making and identity formation in the aftermath of fascism. There has been a lot of writing about the German project of the post-Nazi era, but this was a very solid read.
Water and Salt - Lena Khalaf Tuffaha
I came across Tuffaha’s gut-punch of a poem, “Running Orders,” online, and while the rest of the collection doesn’t always hit as hard, it’s still fantastic.
Bring Up the Bodies - Hilary Mantel 🎧
Reading this and The Mirror and the Light at the beginning of the year really ruined me for all other prose for the entirety of 2024, tbh. Nobody does it like Mantel.
Bandits, Misfits, and Superheroes: Whiteness and Its Borderlands in American Comics and Graphic Novels - Josef Benson and Doug Singsen
After reading Birds of Prey in October-December I really wanted to read some writing on whiteness in comics. This didn’t touch on what I was most interested in exploring and I did come away from the book thinking damn. None of that book was nearly as good as Tony Wei Ling’s fantastic piece on Crumb and alt-comics’ self-hagiography in SOLRAD.
Mending with Boro - Harumi Horiuchi
Make and Mend: Sashiko-Inspired Embroidery Projects to Customize and Repair Textiles and Decorate Your Home - Jessica Marquez
Mend!: A Refashioning Manual and Manifesto - Kate Sekules
Mending with Love: Creative Repairs for Your Favorite Things - Noriko Misumi
Mend It, Wear It, Love It!: Stitch Your Way to a Sustainable Wardrobe - Zoe Edwards
Can you tell I taught a visible mending class in February? Honestly any one of these are a good pick if you’re wanting to get into visible mending. This is the best for giving you a whole menu of techniques to choose from and having very accessible instructions.
Modern Mending - Erin Lewis-Fitzgerald
Mending Matters: Stitch, Patch, and Repair Your Favorite Denim & More - Katrina Rodabaugh
Creative Mending: Beautiful Darning, Patching and Stitching Techniques - Hikaru Noguchi
This is the best one for getting into the ethos of visible mending. It’s a deeply kind book.
Joyful Mending: Visible Repairs for the Perfectly Imperfect Things We Love! - Noriko Misumi
Visible Mending: A Modern Guide to Darning, Stitching and Patching the Clothes You Love - Arounna Khounnoraj
The Mirror and the Light - Hilary Mantel 🎧
Once again. Nobody is doing it like Hilary Mantel.
FEB
Finna - Nino Cipri 🎧
Anticapitalist multiverse Ikea relationship drama should have been my entire jam but this book was simply quite bad.
Weapons of Math Destruction: How Big Data Increases Inequality and Threatens Democracy - Cathy O’Neil 🎧
Are you ready to get depressed about data? This is a great book for your liberal mom. I could wish it were more anticarceral but for what it’s actually covering it does a great job.
Vegetables Love Flowers: Companion Planting for Beauty and Bounty - Lisa Mason Ziegler
Garden planning :)
Flux - Jinwoo Chong 🎧
If you liked Severance (the show) or have ever projected some identity feelings onto a not-very-good TV show, this is a book for you. Imperfect pacing but still gripping, and I’m excited to see what Chong does next-- this is his first book.
Ocean’s Echo - Everina Maxwell
The premise of this book is simply so sexy. And overall the book is too!
The Imposition of Unnecessary Obstacles - Malka Older
Yayyyy Mossa and Pleiti return! I love this series and I loved this book.
A Land with a People: Palestinians and Jews Confront Zionism edited - Rosalind Pollack Petchesky, Esther Farmer, & Sarah Sills
I don't really have a write up for this. It's powerful and well written and I would recommend it.
Black Paper: Writing in a Dark Time - Teju Cole
Best book I read all year, frankly. Teju Cole writes about art and culture and being alive when the world is falling apart like nobody else.
MAR
The Deepest South of All: True Stories from Natchez, Mississippi - Richard Grant 🎧
Oh you hate to see a British guy get sucked in by white Southern niceness. (Richard Grant, in this case, is the British guy.) A lot of the stories in this were excellent but Grant gives way too much credit to folks clinging to the tattered remnants of the Old South.
Ottoman Brothers: Muslims, Christians, and Jews in Early Twentieth-Century Palestine - Michelle U. Campos
Excellent historical antidote to the idea of perpetual struggle in Palestine. Also interesting read just for looking at how citizens of Jerusalem were using national and imperial identities for their political agendas at the time.
An Immense World: How Animal Senses Reveal the Hidden Realms Around Us - Ed Yong 🎧
Lovely book that resists anthropomorphism and rendered me a font of “hey babe can I tell you a cool snake fact?” for about three weeks.
The Barbizon: The Hotel That Set Women Free - Paulina Bren 🎧
You know I should have expected a book like this to be exactly what it was and yet. In addition to the sort of milquetoast stabs at feminism the structure is bad-- it devolves into Sylvia Plath’s life story and doesn’t really recover. I don’t mind reading a book about Sylvia Plath but I would like to plan to do that going in.
The Hunter - Tana French
Only Tana can manage to write a book that is mostly just pretty normal conversations for 75% of its runtime and yet made me unbelievably stressed the whole time I was reading. Creeping dread! We love it.
Shades of Grey - Jasper Fforde
I last read this in high school when I was so excited to see that the sequel would be coming out any day now. Over a decade later, any day at last arrived! So it was time for a reread. The sexual politics of this book are insane, which I didn’t pick up on in 10th grade, but it is still an extremely clever and enjoyable book.
Rabid: A Cultural History of the World's Most Diabolical Virus - Bill Wasik 🎧
I learned a lot of fun facts in this book but it was rambling and also I do wish books like this would stop trying to overstate the importance of their topic. Rabies can’t be the source of vampire legends AND zombie legends AND werewolves. (Zombies in particular. We know where those come from and it ain’t rabies!)
The Transcriptionist - Amy Rowland 🎧
As a former transcriptionist the idea of a mystery that revolves around the intrinsic weirdness of being the fly on the wall was very appealing to me! This wasn’t quite the book I thought it was but I still enjoyed it.
City Editor - Stanley Walker
If you can ignore the amount of name-dropping of people who were certainly famous in 1934 newsrooms but I have certainly never heard of, there are definitely some amusing anecdotes. Walker writes with a dynamism and bombast I would love to see in any kind of writing nowadays. However it is also a book written - a newspaperman in 1934 so it does hit every single -ism like it’s trying to get a pinball high score.
The Times: How the Newspaper of Record Survived Scandal, Scorn, and the Transformation of Journalism - Adam Nagourney 🎧
This book is exceedingly kind to the NYT and it was wild to read this the month that the Hamas mass rape story very publicly fell apart. However reading it did give me a very clear picture of how that story, and stories like it, happened in the first place.
Chasing History: A Kid in the Newsroom - Carl Bernstein 🎧
Of all the “how do newspapers work?” books I read in March-April to prep for a fic I didn’t end up being able to write, this was my favorite. Bernstein is an engaging narrator and this answered my questions about how a story actually happens (particularly pre-internet.)
APR
Beacons in the Darkness: Hope and Transformation Among America's Community Newspapers - Dave Hoekstra
This ping-pongs between case studies in a way that would be totally fine in a feature story and is unforgivable in a book. But the case studies are interesting!
Newsroom Confidential: Lessons (and Worries) from an Ink-Stained Life - Margaret Sullivan
This is more memoir than NYT hagiography, and thus I enjoyed it much more.
Ocean’s Godori - Elaine Cho
I’ve got to stop reading SFF that came out this year. Unfortunately, it is part of my job to be aware of SFF that comes out this year. The pacing on this was UNBELIEVABLY sick-- the inciting plot incident only occurred halfway through the book, and the first 60 pages were us being fairly clumsily introduced to too many characters. The author’s end notes effusively thanked her editor and I think she should not have done that because a really solid editing job could have made this into something I really enjoyed. (People who work in publishing I’m sorry about publishing.)
Bombshell - Sarah MacLean
If your whole plot is going to hinge on a Deep Dark Secret, it better be deep and dark.
Time's Echo: The Second World War, the Holocaust, and the Music of Remembrance - Jeremy Eichler 🎧
I got this for my grandma for Christmas and that was a mistake because this book is so depressing. If I had thought for two seconds I would have known this! However. I did like it!
MAY
JUN
Desegregating Comics: Debating Blackness in the Golden Age of American Comics - Qiana Whitted
Really loved this one.
Super Bodies: Comic Book Illustration, Artistic Styles, and Narrative Impact - Jeffrey A. Brown
This book would have been fantastic if the author had a) had any art historical or visual analysis training and b) done research about manga and the ways its styles have been used in the west. As neither of those were true this book mostly made me wish it was another, better book. Good comics recs though.
Red Side Story - Jasper Fforde
Long-awaited sequel! This is an entirely solid book, though I wish I could have read it when I was a teen because it would have rocked my shit then.
JULY
The Ladies Rewrite the Rules - Suzanne Allain
Really the only thing you need to know about this Regency #girlboss book is that at the very end of the book, which made almost no pretenses to historical accuracy wrt attitudes about gender roles, the main narrative tension is the love interest’s plans to go off with the East India Company to make his fortune. The other characters have no moral qualms about this; it’s proposed with the same air that a modern book would talk about someone going to college across the country. It made me feel completely insane.
Escape Velocity - Victor Manibo
You know when you read a book and you say wow, I can’t wait to watch this as a Netflix special, but boy was it not very good as a book? That. Also I really wish we had spent more than about two scenes with the servants on the space hotel, so that I could care about them as people and not as plot devices!
Making Our Future: Visionary Folklore and Everyday Culture in Appalachia - Emily Hilliard
Engaging stories of modern West Virginia.
Belonging: A Culture of Place - bell hooks
The writing on exile in this did make me cry while I was eating lunch.
AUG
Appalachia on the Table: Representing Mountain Food and People - Erica Adams Locklear
More historical than I expected but solid writing on how perception of food affects perception of people.
What You Are Looking For is in the Library - Michiko Aoyama
I really didn’t expect this to get me but I am not immune to lovely, small-scale stories of people being kind to one another in community. Teared up on desk.
SEPT
Watercolor Is for Everyone: Simple Lessons to Make Your Creative Practice a Daily Habit - Kateri Ewing
This was for a class and everyone liked the class!
Hot Summer - Elle Everhart
I am so hit or miss on contemporary romance. This was a messy, delightful reality show romp. Light on drama, but the robust character relationships are the star of the show.
Loving Mountains, Loving Men - Jeff Mann
The poems here are generally better than the prose, which gets a bit repetitive at times. The poems are also generally very good, and a few of them made me cry.
Second Night Stand - Karelia and Fay Stetz-Waters
I wish I had known going in that the authors were a married couple looking to tell “a story about a healthy queer romance.” All love to them, but I am simply not very interested in reading a story that bills itself that way! And as you might imagine there was a lot of therapy speak and very little narrative tension. Sex scenes were great, though, and if you want a very queer comfort read you might enjoy this.
You Should Be So Lucky - Cat Sebastian
Very chewy character relationships. Sebastian manages to tell a story that feels of its time (1950s sports/journalism) while not being deeply bleak, which is a balance that many many queer historical romances completely bomb.
Lady Eve's Last Con - Rebecca Fraimow
Delightful lesbian screwball comedy. In space!
OCT
Slippery Creatures - KJ Charles
The Sugared Game - KJ Charles
Subtle Blood - KJ Charles
Imagine if Lord Peter Wimsey had a passionate love affair with a gruff and tortured soldier recently back from WWI. That’s basically these books and I inhaled them. Shout out to detectorist for the rec!
The No-Show - Beth O’Leary 🎧
About 60% of the way through this book, I said, oh man, I hope that the twist to this book isn’t [redacted]. That would make me so mad. Well, it was, and it did!
Drunk on All Your Strange New Words - Eddie Robson 🎧
Scratched the itch for sci-fi mystery, and the premise is fantastic. The narrator does a mostly excellent job but her American accents are distractingly bad, so if that will bother you read the book.
Deviant Hollers: Queering Appalachian Ecologies for a Sustainable Future edited - Zane McNeill and Rebecca Scott
Most of the essays in this are great! Every so often I get in my head about whether I can claim an Appalachian or Southern identity and whether I should do any writing on the subject. And then I read an essay that makes a lot of claims about “I centralize queer, trans, rural southern voices” and then does not proceed to actually demonstrate how they are doing any of that work, and go oh wait I’m actually fine.
NOV
Better the Blood - Michael Bennett 🎧
A pretty solid thriller elevated by a very solid conceit: a Maori detective is investigating modern-day killings connected to a 19th century execution of a Maori chief by a group of British soldiers. This suffered a little from being written by a screenwriter who very clearly had certain shots in mind while writing (sometimes that works in prose, sometimes it doesn’t) and also from periodic intercut scenes from the killer’s POV (also a convention that works better in TV) which did undercut whodunit tension. Also the main character is a cop. But I ended up finding her sympathetic, which is a HUGE ask given the subject matter.
The Stars Too Fondly - Emily Hamilton 🎧
Hated this. I tried to be measured in my initial review but every single part of this book was simply so bad. I wish I had those 11 hours of my life back. If this author is your friend I apologize, and also I hope she didn’t base a character on you, because every character in this book acts like a 15yo.
Appalachian Reckoning: A Region Responds to Hillbilly Elegy edited by Meredith McCarroll & Anthony Harkins
I worked my way through my own booklist this fall and this was one of the best books on it. I kept trying to put it on display at the library but our copy was checked out the entire time. Give this to your uncle who won’t shut up about Ohio.
The Pairing - Casey McQuiston 🎧
First half of this was way more compelling than I expected it to be, and then McQuiston makes the WILD choice to switch POVs entirely and permanently halfway through the book. And I found the second character pretentious and given to fits of purple prose (he describes the first character as a “superbloom” at one point and also won’t shut up about the most art history 101 pieces of art) so I did not particularly enjoy the book as a whole. I will give it points though for having a pretty non-cringey “hi i’m actually nonbinary” conversation, which is astonishingly rare.
Jonny Appleseed - Joshua Whitehead
This was initially a book club pick for a meeting that didn’t end up happening, which is a bummer because I would like to talk about this book with more people! A lot of lines in this are going to stick with me-- Whitehead shifts through time and place with deftness and grace. If you like K-Ming Chang’s Bestiary I think you will enjoy this-- Whitehead revels in the body in a similar way.
I Heard Her Call My Name: A Memoir of Transition - Lucy Sante 🎧
If you’re not already a little familiar with the NYC art scene in the 70s and 80s you may not enjoy this, because Sante name-drops a lot. I am, and I loved it-- it’s a lovely meditation on growing old and hitting your breaking point. Sante is also a fantastic writer, and this is an excellent counterbalance to the particular type of trans writing that is very very common online. (Nothing wrong with that writing, but you need a balanced diet.)
The Village Library Demon-Hunting Society - CM Waggoner
I loved Waggoner’s previous books and I did end up enjoying this one a lot! It’s an enjoyable send-up of the cozy mystery genre.
Regarding the Pain of Others - Susan Sontag
A reread for my yaoi zine piece! Not only does this still hit but I think it’s a particularly apt piece of writing to be reading right now, when we are daily surrounded - images of suffering. Sontag, as ever, does not have any neat answers for us, but she does make you think more deeply about the world that surrounds you.
DEC
How to Tell When We Will Die: On Pain, Disability, and Doom - Johanna Hedva 🎧
I loved parts of this, and I hated other parts, which for me is a good sign about a book of theory. I have more thoughts about disability activism and being online that don’t fit into a quick write-up for a book.
Ramp Hollow: The Ordeal of Appalachia - Stephen Stoll
This took me six months to read, but mostly because I was reading it occasionally on desk and I kept having to return the ebook. It demands a little bit more sustained attention than I was giving it! It’s an excellent overview of the history of land use in Appalachia through the 1930s and it gave me a lot of good context for the mountains I grew up under.
The Forbidden Book - Sacha Lamb 🎧
Unfortunately, I think I would have liked this a lot more if I hadn’t read When The Angels Left the Old Country first! It’s a perfectly nice YA story-- but it definitely feels YA, and I don’t tend to enjoy reading a lot of YA.
Come Fly the World: The Jet-Age Story of the Women of Pan Am - Julia Cooke 🎧
I still don’t really know how I feel about this book. It does avoid some of the pitfalls of #girlboss nonfiction, but also it falls right into others. Mostly I wish it had engaged really at all with the people these women met on their travels, or like. Literally anyone Vietnamese.
Exile and Pride: Disability, Queerness, and Liberation - Eli Clare
Oof ouch my bones!!! This hits on a lot and does it with incredible grace.
To Say Nothing of the Dog - Connie Willis🎧
I wish my grandma was still alive so I could recommend this to her, because she would have adored it. Delightful time travel Victoriana.
The Message - Ta-Nehisi Coates 🎧
I really admire the move of making the entire second half of your highly anticipated book about the injustices you saw in Palestine, and I hope it pays off and every NPR listener who loved Between the World and Me picks this up and reads to the end.
Everyone in this Room Will Someday Be Dead by Emily Austin
This book reads like a 200-page panic attack, which is not a diss! Really revels in the situational hilarity of anxiety/OCD/something unspecified.
Rules for Ghosting by Shelly Jay Shore
Okay I had to add this one in because I finished it after making my post. This book (contemporary queer Jewish romance with a bit of the supernatural) was so lovely and deeply felt and often laugh out loud funny. The family relationships are the real star although the romance is also very sweet.

Centrifugation: Chapter 2
Series Masterlist
Frazzled after your rough day at the center, you head out to your regular bar with the work crew, and see a familiar face there.
Warnings: brief mentions of violence, alcohol consumption, fluff, allusions to smut, kissing, groping, talks of divorce
WC: 4.3k
Friday, October 15th | 1730
After Joel left, the cops showed up shortly after and you gave your statement. They assured you if Cedric returned, he would be arrested. Trina permanently deferred him in the system, preventing him from checking in. You felt some relief at that but were concerned about him waiting for you in the parking lot after your shift. Keri offers to walk you to your car after you both clock out.
“Love, today was rough… so fucking glad it’s Friday. Want to grab a drink?” she asks. You nod fervently, the idea of a cold beer immediately resurrecting you from the depths of this terrible day.
“McKinney’s?” you offer.
She smiles brightly and nods in agreement. “I’ll come get you. Just text me when you’re ready.”
McKinney’s is a local Irish dive bar, and the plasma center staff are regulars. The bartenders are awesome, drinks are dirt cheap, and horrific karaoke is every Friday.
Once you get to your apartment, you take a hot, hot shower, rubbing off the stress and sweat from the day. You think about Joel’s soft touch and how comforting he was. You also think about the way he looked at you, causing arousal to pool in your lower belly. No time to feen over a stranger, you think, washing the premature fantasy out of your mind.
You do a quick towel dry and style your hair, throw on some low-rise jeans that hug your ass, and a skintight black shirt that’s not quite cropped, not quite full-length. You put on bare-minimum makeup, spray on some of your favorite musky perfume, step into some sandals, and give yourself a quick mirror check. Your hipbones are peeking out between the bottom of your shirt and the top of your jeans. The black shirt dips down low enough to show your collarbones and part of your shoulders. You’re glowing, which is surprising, given the shitty day you had. You’re not dressed overtly sexy, but you know how the men at the dive bar will react to a little skin and curves. Fuck it. Nothing wrong with a little attention. You grab your phone and text Keri that you’re ready.
Keri: Sounds good. I’ll be there in 10.
You open the fridge and grab some small Fireball shooters for the drive. Not long thereafter, you hear Keri’s honk outside the building. Keri prefers to drive when you two have outings, which you don’t mind at all. She’s got a nice house in the Benson area, not too far from work or from your apartment. She’s divorced and about 10 years your senior. The two of you have always clicked, and you enjoy spending time with her in and outside of work.
You: Bet. Shooters engaged.
You trot to her car, holding up the shooters and grinning once she’s in view. She grimaces. You hop in and crack the shooters open, clink yours against hers and take the shot, the spicy cinnamon liquor trickling down your throat, burning as it travels down the ridges.
“Ready to get your drank on, bitch?” Keri coughs, and you both cackle.
Shortly thereafter, you arrive at McKinney’s. The parking lot is jam-packed, meaning you’ll probably have a smorgasbord of awful karaoke singers lining up. You walk in and take your usual spots at the bar, facing the karaoke stage. One of your favorite bartenders, Jessica, greets you and Keri. “Hey, ladies. Heard there was a ruckus at the plasma center today,” she says, motioning over at Blake and some other employees at one of the tables by the stage, who wave at you both. You both laugh and wave back. “Jess, it was fucking nuts. This one here about got hep C. Cops got called and everything,” Keri says.
“Jesus… well, the first round’s on me. Sorry you had to deal with that,” Jess says, bringing over a pitcher of Busch Light. Not your favorite, but when pitchers are $5, it’s hard to pass up. Keri pours you both a glass and you clink them together before taking a big swig.
You both join the table with the rest of the employees, putting some tables together and chatting. You get up to go to the bathroom. On your way back, you stop by the bar and ask Jess for a couple more pitchers. She obliges, and you wait at the bar while she fills them up.
“Hey, darlin’. Can’t imagine why you’d be here on a night like this,” a deep Southern drawl croons in your ear, coating your name in velvet. You freeze and look behind you to see Joel. He’s swapped his red flannel for a blue one that hugs his biceps and traps, along with some black jeans and boots. His hair is slicked back, showing off gray stripes that wrap the front and sides of his face. What enraptures you most, however, is his scent that you somehow failed to notice earlier today. He smells of sandalwood and bourbon, spicy and musky at the same time. You figure it’s probably time to respond to him when you see him smirk and raise his eyebrows at you.
“Hi, Joel! What are you doing here?” You say, attempting to stop drooling over him. Luckily for you, though, he’s making no attempt to stop staring at you. He takes you in, looking at you from head to toe with that strange look in his eyes you’ve seen for the third time today. Your stomach does a few back handsprings. Those low riders that hug your ass were a great idea.
“Keri told me today this is where the cool people in Omaha hang out at, so it’s only natural that I stop by,” he says, grinning at you. You giggle and lightly smack his arm, the liquid courage giving you balls you thought you never had. Now it makes sense why Keri suggested you go here this evening.
“Are you doin’ better, sweetheart? Know today was rough for ya,” he asks, his gaze on you now tender. Warmth washes over you and you smile at him, putting a hand on his chest. Joel feels a soft burn where your hand lies and worries you can feel his heart palpitate underneath your fingertips.
“Yes, much better. I wanted to say thank you for being there for me. It meant a lot to me,” you say, watching his cheeks curl into a soft smile and a blush creeping up his neck. Still feeling ballsy, you ask if he wants to sit at the bar or join the group.
“Doesn’t matter to me, darlin’. You lead the way,” he hums. You decide you want to spend some alone time with Joel for a bit before returning to the group. “Sit here,” you say, gesturing to two stools at the bar. “I’ll drop these pitchers off and come back.” He nods and half-sits on one of the stools. You hoist the pitchers and walk over to the table, making sure to swing your hips just in case he’s watching.
Keri grins at you. You give her a smirk. “I see what you did there, Ker,” you giggle. She shrugs, taking a sip of beer. “Not sure what you’re talking about, girl!” Uh huh. You roll your eyes as you drop the pitchers off and return to the bar.
Joel watches you walk back, that half-smile plastered on his face and his eyes flashing black as they travel up and down your body. You hop up on the bar stool and give him a quizzical look. “What are you staring at, cowboy?”
“The prettiest woman I’ve seen since I’ve been in Omaha… maybe even ever,” he says in a low voice, getting closer to your ear. The small hairs on your ear prick up, like his voice is their magnet. You feel tingles travel down your neck and spine, landing at your core, and clamp your legs together. Fuuuuck. He continues, “I feel like I’ve known you a long time… I feel crazy sayin’ that knowin’ damn well we just met today.”
“I feel the same way,” you say, “It really hit me today when we were at the picnic table.” He nods in agreement. You stare at each other, and time stops for a moment. The bar is buzzing, but all you can see and hear is Joel, and he you. Hopefully this isn’t just the booze and a bad day.
The karaoke host gets on the mic and taps it a few times to let the patrons know karaoke is starting soon. People travel up to him to put their names in the queue, including some people from your work group.
Joel puts an arm around your shoulders, lightly rubbing the skin on your arm. “You want somethin’ else to drink?” You turn to him and nod, noticing he’s got a glass of what appears to be whiskey. He calls Jess over and you order a Dos Equis Ambar.
“Beer girl, huh?” he chuckles.
“Love my beer. I’ll drink just about anything, though… except whiskey,” you scrunch your nose at his drink, and he laughs.
“It’s not that bad. Tough thing like you could down it, easily,” he jokes, squeezing your shoulder playfully. “Here, take a sip and see what ya think.” You pick up the glass and look down at it, grimacing from the smell.
“So… how do I do this? The expert way of course,” You ask. One side of his mouth curls up in a smirk.
“Take a smaller sip and swish it ‘round your mouth to get the flavors. I warn ya, it’s gonna burn a lil’ bit,” he cautions. You do as he says, trying not to make a face at the sting on your tongue and cheeks. You taste nothing but pure, smoky alcohol. He guffaws.
“That’s gotta be straight ethanol with some food dye,” you grimace, smacking your lips a few times and wash the whiskey down with a sip of your beer. “My tongue is on fire!”
“Told ya. Just gotta get used t’it,” he says, taking a sip and swishing it around like a champ.
As karaoke starts, you both fall in a comfortable rhythm of conversing and getting to know each other. You talk about growing up here in Omaha, going to Lincoln, Nebraska for college, and coming back to be close to your family. Joel talks about growing up in Austin, Texas, and his successful contracting business he runs with his brother, Tommy. He tells you about his 18-year-old daughter, Sarah, who’s in college in Lincoln, Nebraska at your alma mater, hence the move to Omaha. He divorced shortly after she was born and has been virtually single since.
“What about you? Smart, beautiful girl like you gotta be single because she wants to be, not ‘cause she’s short on options,” Joel says, the arm that was around your shoulders earlier traversing across your back, now resting on your opposite thigh. You look at him wistfully.
“Something like that. It’s kinda hard for me to connect with people in that way. I’m… exclusive with my time and energy, I guess. I just value my alone time and time with my friends,” You say honestly, hoping that doesn’t throw him off. You really haven’t had a lot of serious relationships and have always preferred being by yourself. Sure, you had a lot of flings in college, but nobody you wanted to take the next step with.
“I understand. Seems like a good way to live, if ya ask me. Can’t be givin’ everybody your time. I learned that the hard way,” he says, looking away from you, his big, brown eyes shaded in amber melancholy.
“What happened? If you don’t mind me asking,” you ask, putting your hand on his leg and squeezing lightly. He reciprocates.
“We had Sarah so young, marriage just seemed like the right thing to do next. Turns out neither of us was ready nor mature enough for that. She wanted to go out and be with other men, and I just wanted to raise my daughter and try and make a livin’,” he says, a sad smile playing on his lips. “Everythin’ happened for a reason, though, can’t say I regret any of it.” You look him in the eyes and give him a sympathetic smile. The way he looks at you is so soft, so tender. Your heart jumps up and down.
“I bet you’re a great dad, I’m sure Sarah appreciates everything you do,” you say, giving him another squeeze. He turns to look at you, eyes blazing with fondness.
“If you’re interested, I’d like you to meet her. She’ll be coming up on weekends here and there during school since it’s only an hour away from here. Oh, and I’d love for you to meet my brother, Tommy. We expanded the business to some parts of the Midwest, so he and his wife moved up here, too.”
“Wow, that’s great… you guys must’ve made all the right business moves. I’d love to meet them,” you say, impressed by him. He snorts.
“Wasn’t always like that. Our pops helped us out a lot early on… two reckless twenty-something men starting a contracting business with no damn idea how to do it. We knew how to do the work, but managin’ it is a whole different ballgame. Plus, I was a single dad not long after we started. Lotta late nights and caffeine. We did alright, though. Got offices in Austin and Dallas, Kansas City, and now Omaha.” He says, running fingers through his silvery hair. You feel yourself grinning at him.
This can’t be real, you think. I just met this man today and already feel so connected to him. Your face must match your deep thinking, because he asks you if everything is alright.
“Yes, absolutely,” you say, because it is. His eyes flicker over your face with quiet adoration. You admire his beard and how his mustache is dark brown, but the hairs littered on his chin and jaw are almost all-white. You swear you see him lean in ever so slightly and turn nervously to take a sip of your beer.
Karaoke stops for the night, and the jukebox starts playing Eric Claptons’ Wonderful Tonight. Joel stands from the stool and holds his hand out. “Wanna dance, pretty girl?”
You blush and take his big, warm hand. “Of course.”
He leads you out to the dance floor, where most patrons have gathered to sway to the music with someone. He holds your right hand with his left and pulls you close to him with his right, wrapping his arm around your waist. You lie your head on his shoulder and let yourself melt into him, wrapping your free arm around his upper back and taking in his scent. He feels so safe, so strong, so firm. You could stand here with him forever.
“You know, every man in here wants you, darlin’,” he whispers in your ear. He feels your smirk on his shoulder.
“Every man?” You ask, taking your head off his shoulder to look him in the eyes. He knows exactly what you’re asking. You’re taken aback at how much desire his eyes hold, looking at you like you really are the prettiest woman he’s ever seen.
“Every man,” he whispers. You’re not sure when he got so close, but you can feel his warm, whiskey-coated breath on your face and your heart starts thumping quickly in your chest.
“I don’t wanna overstep, but I really wanna kiss you,” he says, his eyes traveling from your eyes to your lips and back. Your heart feels like it’s running hurdles over your ribs, down to the pit of your stomach.
“Please do,” you whisper back, licking your lips.
Time seems to pause indefinitely when he leans in and presses his lips to yours. His lips are smooth, a lovely contrast from the coarse hair on his beard tickling your skin. He tastes like whiskey and coffee, and he thinks you taste like beer and heaven. The kiss is slow and gentle at first, like he’s asking for permission. You deepen the kiss, lightly nibbling his lower lip and reaching up to tug on his curls. He groans at that, making your core ignite. He licks into your mouth and your tongues dance along with the music. Both of his arms are now wrapped around you, his big hands lightly pulling up the hem of your shirt to feel warm skin near the waistband of your jeans. He moves his hands up further under your shirt, learning the planes of your back and delighting in the softness of your skin. The heat of his hands and your growing desire is almost too much, and you have an urging need to cool off before you explode into oblivion. You both pull away after who knows how long and look each other in the eyes, four pupils jam-packed with lust.
“Wanna step outside? It’s a little… hot,” you say, still pressed closely to him, and he chuckles while nodding. He takes your hand and leads you to the outdoor patio, where some torches are lit and the music from inside is playing faintly. The fall air whistles as it swoops over you, giving you goosebumps. It’s dimly lit out here, but bright enough that you can see each other in the torch light, the flames dancing playfully over each of your faces.
“Can’t say I’ve ever felt so good from a kiss, darlin’,” Joel says, pulling you into him. You smash your lips against his like you never stopped. One of his hands travels to the back of your head, fingers lightly massaging your scalp; the other hand smoothing down your back until he reaches your ass. A low growl emits from his chest, and you let out a faint moan as he squeezes. Your hands both find home in his slicked, curly hair, tugging a bit and earning you another growl from Joel. You know you’re soaked right now, and you can feel his hardening length poking into your lower stomach.
Normally, you would pull back and distance yourself from someone you’ve only known for less than a day, but something about this man has you seeing stars, clouds, and other celestial bodies. Nothing has ever felt so natural or in sync for you. He must think so, too, as he breaks the kiss to nip down your jaw and neck, soothing the little bites with his tongue afterwards. You moan and feel him grip you tighter in response.
“God, ‘m never gonna forget that beautiful sound,” he hums into your neck, sending you reeling. He licks over to the other side of your neck and kisses his way back up your jaw, back to your ear, where he pulls at the lobe gently with his teeth and sucks it back into his mouth. You suck in a sharp breath and giggle, knowing that you’ve just given away two of your favorite spots to him. He chuckles and continues kissing your neck, jaw, collarbone, and ears, simultaneously scratching your smooth skin with his facial hair. Your skin tastes like vanilla and tangerine, and he marvels at how soft you are and relishes in the sounds he’s pulling from your lips. “Fuck, Joel,” you whine, “that feels so good.”
“You taste so good, baby,” he says and returns his mouth to yours, hands roaming all over your body but careful to not overstep boundaries. Your hands do the same, but you both make sure you’re still pressed up as close to each other as possible. You can feel his rock-hard cock ready to burst through the fabric of his jeans and your wetness pooling in your underwear, threatening to trickle down your thighs.
He pulls away briefly and groans, a look of near-despair clouding his amber eyes. “I want you so fuckin’ bad, but I wanna do this right.” You nod in agreement. Snapshots of Joel taking your clothes off and running his hands and tongue all over your body are racing through your mind, but you know he’s right. He’s got the same visions of you in his mind and wants nothing more than to make you feel good – physically and emotionally.
“Not like we need to rush anything,” you say, looking up at him. His smile is so saccharine, and he leans in to kiss you softly on the lips.
“Got nothin’ but time, sweetheart.” He holds you in his arms for a moment, and the door leading to the patio swings open with a squeak. Loud music and warbled voices invade your space momentarily before the door shuts. You look up and see Keri grinning ear to ear.
“See? I told you you wouldn’t regret coming here, Joel,” she says, pursing her lips at the two of you as she brings her beer up for a sip. You stick your tongue out and she giggles, turning to go back inside.
Your gurgling stomach makes its entrance, interrupting your sweet moment with Joel. He chuckles, “Sweetheart, do you wanna go get something to eat? It’s gettin’ late, and I know you had a long day,” he says, his hands crossing up your back and coming to land on your shoulders. You hadn’t noticed until now that your stomach felt tense, like you had a hole in it that food needed to fill. “Probably a good idea… I must’ve forgotten to eat after I left the center today,” you say, rubbing your stomach lightly. You check your watch. 12:53 am. Not too late, but the events of the day are starting to drag your body down into the depths of fatigue. He cups your jaw with both hands and places a chaste kiss on your forehead.
“Let’s go, then, and I’ll take you home. Where d’ya wanna go?” He asks, eyes shifting between yours. You think of all the places that would be open right now, deciding that something quick and greasy is probably the only option. You shrug.
“You’re the local, you be the guide,” he says, releasing you from his embrace and taking your hand. He leads you inside and stops at your work table so you can say goodbye. You wave at everyone and give Keri a quick hug. “You let me know when you get home, alright hon’?” She says, giving you a quick peck on the cheek. “Yes ma’am, you got it,” you say, hugging her tightly.
You two leave hand in hand and walk to Joel’s black pickup, which looks very expensive and very new. You attempt to open the passenger door and he stops you. You raise an eyebrow and give him a confused look. “Sweetheart, I’m a Southern gentleman,” he trills, opening the door for you and ushering you in with a hand on your lower back. You smirk and feel the liquid courage bubbling up again. “Oh yeah? In more ways than one?” His eyes flash with desire, moving up and down your frame as you get comfortable in the passenger seat.
“Don’t get me started on all the ways,” he says, voice deep and eyes fixated on yours. You feel your neck and cheeks heat. This is gonna be tough. Joel shuts your door and trots over to the driver’s side. He pulls out of the parking lot, his free hand reaching over the center console to lace his fingers with yours. “Decide what you want?”
“I’m thinking classic McDonald’s… I’m a cheap date,” you say, squeezing his hand. He laughs.
“We’ll see how long that lasts, darlin’… I gotta take you out for a real date soon,” he grins. Your stomach flips at the thought of going on a real date with Joel.
After you go through the McDonald’s drive through, Joel heads to your place to drop you off. He approaches the entrance to your building and puts the truck in park.
“Do you want to come in?” You ask. He gives you a look, almost pained. “Sure, darlin’. No funny business, I promise,” he responds. You tilt your head at him, amused. “Not sure if we have the same definition of that phrase, but you’re about to find out,” you say, smirking. He scoffs and moves the truck to a parking spot.
You enter the building and head to your door at the end of the first floor. Hopefully it’s clean, you think. You can’t remember the last time a man came over. You pop in your code and open the door, Joel holding the door beside you. You set your purse and keys on the kitchen counter and watch Joel’s eyes examine the place. He looks at the pictures of you and your friends and family hung on the walls.
“Clearly, you’ve always been gorgeous,” he says, pointing to a picture from your 8th grade graduation. Braces and all. You smack his arm playfully. “Shut it. We can’t all be sexy-cowboy-chico-suave like you,” you gripe, making him burst out laughing. “Never heard that one before darlin’, but sexy doesn’t cover you,” he says, eyes traveling up and down your frame. He takes two big steps toward you. “So, what’s your definition of funny business?” he asks, finger tipping your chin up to look at him. You smirk and lead him to the couch, grabbing the remote and turning the TV on.
“You’re really gonna regret coming over here,” you giggle, pulling up Hulu. You scroll down to continue watching The Golden Girls. Joel groans playfully. “Yeah… we definitely have different definitions of that word,” he says, putting his arm around you and kicking his feet up as you snuggle into him.

WILL WRITE:
Headcanons, fics, drabbles, oneshots, etc.
Fluff, platonic, nsfw/nsft, and anything else in-between.
Things involving drugs, preferably just marijuana, but I’ll consider harder substances if asked.
Any sort of kink, I have a few exceptions which will be featured in the ‘won’t write’ section. Anything else is free reign.
I’ll consider topics including self harm or other things of that matter, but if I feel the request is romanticizing or glamorizing mental illness it won’t be accepted. It’s important to me that depictions like that are accurate.
Female, male, and non-binary/gender neutral readers. I normally keep everything gender neutral just for more inclusivity, but if asked specifically I’ll accommodate. When requesting please specify afab or amab! If not specified I’ll try to keep it ambiguous, or offer both.
WON’T WRITE:
Kinks including: Any sort of non-con, pee, scat, or snuff. Really anything involving bodily fluids or intense violence.
Requests with names or anything specific, I want to be as inclusive as possible so anything that’s specific to a single person will be denied!
Things involving abuse of any kind (sexual, physical, emotional)
Any sort of fic about real people, this is non-negotiable!
Incest or any other taboo subject.
Please don’t be afraid to request something! I’m always itching to write and will be more than happy to write something for you!

Three night later the bottle if tequila is half full.it was like a nightly ritual dick would disappear and bring something back for kory and the kids .First night was 4 dozen of donuts. Second night it was pints of ice cream and the third night everyone had a taste for candy. And for the final night dick brought cupcakes for everyone. After their nightly shot and their first round dick gets up and bring over korys cupcake but doesn't give it to her .
Not yet hold on let me clean up my mess first. Dick says as he brings back a warm wet wash cloths and a towel.
Relax I got this. Dick says with a smile.
Kory is still on her knee when he says this
Aww that was kind of you
The least I can is clean up my mess.
Kory sits down when dick slides her cupcake towards her.
I'm starving kory says
Eat up
Kory opens the box and it's a chocolate cupcake with purple icing and with will you marry me written in blue.
Yes yes yes ! Kory set the cupcake Down and hugs him.
Sorry I don't have a right yet but it's on the way .
It is ?
Yeah I hope you don't mind a family heirlooms? Bruce is sending me my mothers ring and his mother's ring I figured we could design something you like from the two rings.
Are you sure?
Yeah both rings have been hang out in a safe at Wayne manor of a long time. Bruce isn't getting married.
Well then we can do it together.kory says
Ok but you can have final say.
Whatever we do you think we can make our little girl her first pair of earrings from the rings too. If you don't want to that's ok .
Im sure bruce would like that just as much as I already do

I Want Us Part 6
Fandom: Chicago PD / SVU
Series: I Want Us
Part 1 // Part 2 // Part 3 // Part 4 // Part 5 // Part 6 // Part 7 // Part 8 // Part 9 // Part 10 (Final)
Pairing/s: Sonny Carisi x Intelligence!Reader
Warning/s: tw rape, murder, assault
Word Count: 1,795
Summary: The Intelligence Unit’s last case with Manhattan SVU had them flying out to New York to track down an abducted boy, and had Dectective Y/L/N and Detective Carisi growing close in the process. Now, a string of rape-murders in Chicago has SVU boarding the next flight out, believing the suspect to be the same man responsible for a set of identical crimes 10 years prior. As the case unfolds, Y/N and Carisi are brought back together, reigniting the spark between them.
You arrived at the previous night’s crime scene a few minutes before Special Victims, slipping on gloves and treating carefully as CSI went over everything they’d found, or didn’t find more accurately, with you. You were knelt down next to where they’d recovered the body, a grim look plastered on your face as you took in every detail of the victim, she almost didn’t look real.
“Detective Y/L/N,” you heard, standing up and turning you attention towards the woman ducking under the crime scene tape and making her way towards you.
“Captain Benson, welcome back to Chicago,” you greeted, meeting her in the middle and shaking her hand, “sorry it isn’t under better circumstances.”
“Oh, believe me, it never is,” she informed you, eyes drifting from you to the body of Jessica Connors with a mixture of sorrow and determination that made you admire her even more than you already did. You still didn’t know how they did these kinds of cases everyday.
Sonny and Kat came through after their Captain. “Hey Y/N, I hear we’re borrowing you from Intelligence for this case,” Kat said.
“You don’t mind that I asked Voight for you to join us do you?” Benson asked, your eyes unconsciously sliding to Sonny as she did. He hadn’t said anything yet, but a small smile was forming on his lips as he looked at you.
“Of course not, anything I can do to help,” you replied.
“Glad to have you then,” Sonny voiced with a grin, ignoring the pointed look Kat gave the both of you.
“You up to speed on the new victims?” You asked, noticing the way Benson was looking at Jessica’s body, CSI just finishing up at the scene.
“Yeah we are,” she told you, her tone and the familiarity in her eyes suggesting that she actually had worked the first case in New York. She noticed you staring and shook the thoughts from her head.
“We’ll catch him this time,” you said, meeting her gaze.
“Will will,” she nodded, looking around at the scene with a Captain’s eye, “Kat and I will talk to CSI, match up any details, see if we can pick up any leads, you and Carisi talk to any witnesses, the officers first on scene, and the man who found the body,” she ordered, turning to go talk to CSI with Kat when she had your confirmation.
“Hey,” Carisi said with a smile when you were both alone.
“Hey yourself,” you replied, “how was the flight?”
“Not too bad, reading up on this case certainly passed the time,” he said, hesitating before adding in a quieter voice: “I was also... looking forward to seeing you again.”
You felt your cheeks go a little red, remembering yourself as you cleared your throat. “We should, um, get on with our orders,” you managed, flustered by the look in his eyes.
He smirked but agreed, gesturing for you to lead the way to where a man of about 35-40 was stood with two uniforms. He was a bit on the shorter side, dark hair and bright white running gear on, not the most practical for a run in the woods, as made apparently by the mud stains. The long scar across his face was distinctive, but you tried not to stare as you made your approach.
“Mr Tate?” Carisi asked, checking his notes briefly to make sure as the man nodded, the unis leaving you to talk to the him. “Thanks for sticking around.”
“You mind if we ask you a couple of questions?” You asked, pulling out your notebook and a pen.
“Of course detectives, anything to help,” he told you both, running a hand through his hair, “I’ve already told the officers that arrived on scene everything I saw.
“We know, but we just want to make sure all our bases are covered,” Carisi clarified.
“Ask away,” Tate spread out his arms, ready for you to begin. Carisi looked to you, signaling you to begin.
“Do you always run this route?” You asked, looking around at the well worn and clearly marked path; the killer wanted the body to be found.
“Yeah, it’s quite a popular trail,” he confirmed, rubbing at a bit of mud on the sleeve of his jumper.
“You see anyone else?” Carisi asked. It was a pretty wide path, and it didn’t diverge much, the killer would have had to use this trail to move Jessica’s body.
“Just another jogger,” he told you with a shrug, something that probably wasn’t very uncommon, even later in the evening.
“But they didn’t see the body?” You probed further, finding it strange. Jessica wasn’t exactly hidden, she’d practically been on full display of the path, anyone would have seen her from where you were.
“I don’t know... I guess not, they were running past me, so I’d be surprised if they didn’t but...” He answered, you and Carisi sharing an identical look as you put a circle around this other jogger in your notes.
“Remember what he was wearing?” Carisi asked for some clarification as Tate scratched his head, thinking.
“Er, black tracksuit, baseball cap, oh and glasses too, like sun glasses, I thought that was strange given how dark it was,” he recalled, your suspicion growing further with each detail.
“White... black...?” Carisi continued, making sure you didn’t miss any detail about your new suspect.
“White, definitely, had a rucksack on too,” Tate said, face scrunched up in thought.
“You were seen him running here before?” You mused, knowing killers sometimes prefered places that were familiar.
“I don’t think so,” he answered somewhat apologetically, “expensive shoes like those... I’d have noticed. Does that help?”
You and Carisi nodded to each other before you took a card out of your pocket, “it does, thank you, get in touch if you think of anything else.”
He took the card, looking over it before slipping it into his pocket, “will do.” He turned to leave, glancing back at the crime scene one last time, Carisi gesturing for the unis to make sure he got back okay.
“Security cameras?” Carisi suggested, reading your mind as your eyes scanned the surrounding area carefully. There wasn’t any this far into the trail, you weren’t that lucky.
“We should check the entrace and exit, if there are only the two ways onto this route then they had to have gone back to one of the car parks, we’ll check the cameras there,” you told him, pocketing your notes and heading back to Benson and Kat.
“You got something?” She asked as you approached.
“Maybe, we’re going to go see what we can find on the nearest security cameras,” Carisi told her, filling her in on everything the witness had just revealed.
“The park ranger can help, he’s with a couple of officers,” she said, a distant and guardedly hopeful look in her eyes. This was as close as anyone had gotten.
You both went off with the park ranger, being led back up the trail to the car park and the rangers station. It was a quiet morning, not surprising given the amount of cop cars and crime scene tape. You’d certainly find a different route if you saw it.
He led you into the station, his partner already having the tape set up to play. “This your guy?” He asked, hitting play as you and Carisi leaned forward, watching intently.
It was dark, but the time stamp matched up as a dark figure emerged from the direction you’d just walked, his jogging slowing to a walk as he approached an equally dark car. The description matched the one Tate had just given you.
“Can you zoom in on that?” You asked, pointing to the number plate on the car. The ranger nodded, pausing the footage and focusing in on the plate. “Got it,” you nodded, Carisi already calling in for a BOLO on the car, a bentley, a long with as good of a description of the driver as he could in the dim light.
“Thanks guys,” Carisi told them as you exited the station, stepping back into the car park as you made your way towards the stop where the bentley had been parked.
Carisi was about to say something to you when your phone rang, digging it out to see Hailey calling. “Hey, how’s it going with Jessica’s family? We think we’ve caught a lead here,” you relayed to her.
“Yeah we heard the BOLO over the radio, got something that might help you with that too,” she told you, a questioning look from Carisi as you put it on speaker for him to hear.
“Oh yeah? What did the family know?” You asked, your aching for them and what they were going through.
“The parents didn’t know much, but when the little sister let us out she mentioned that Jess had been planning to go on a date the last time she’d seen her, about a week a go now,” Hailey explained, the cogs in your mind whirling.
“About the same time we found Lily Hamilton’s body?” You checked, thinking that maybe the killer had swapped one woman out for another.
“You got it,” Hailey confirmed grimly, “and get this, the sister said that Jess had been super excited, saying she’d found her prince charming.” She emphasised the last words, the images of the fanciful ball gowns all the women had been dressed in fresh in your mind.
You heard Jay calling Hailey from somewhere further away, “okay, thanks, we’ll meet you back at the district,” you said, saying your goodbyes and hanging up.
“Prince charming?” Carisi echoed, clearing piecing it together the same as you.
“Sounds like it fits, let’s check if any of the other girls had dates,” you suggested, taking out your car keys.
“I think I read something about that in a couple of the old New York files,” he agreed, following you to your car as he typed away on his phone, most likely telling Benson the plan.
“Looks like we’ve got some work to do,” you told him with a little bit of hope, “guess you’re going to be stuck we me for a bit.”
Carisi grinned, “I can’t say that I mind.” You smiled as you reached your car, more than glad for the company.
Still, something didn’t sit right with you. Not that you didn’t like easy cases, but this... it was too neat, too quick. 9 women dead in New York without so much as a trace of evidence and this lead just falls in your lap?
You couldn’t quite put your finger on what you were missing, but if it helped stop other women from meeting the same fate, you were going to find out.

Who I Write for
Hello! Here's a list of what fandoms I write for and a very honest list of who I write for in that fandom, some of which will have all characters and some of which will have specifics as I'm either new to fandom or just really really love those characters the most.
My inbox is ofc always open so if you're unsure please feel free to drop and ask to be sure ☺️
* I do normally write a NB!reader (non-binary) or GN!reader (gender neutral) or reader with the hint of said reader being female, it's also worth noting that I only write romantic storylines for female characters, I will write for male characters but it's always platonic*
- THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED PERIODICALLY-
• Marvel
All characters from the MCU
All characters from other Marvel films such as: Deadpool, Fantastic Four, X-Men
All characters from the following Marvel TV Shows: Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, Runaways, Jessica Jones, WandaVision
be sure to ask if you're unsure, I write mostly for the MCU and Marvel TV shows however there are some comic characters I do adore and will happily slip them in.
•DC
All characters for the DC films
All characters from the DC TV shows such as: Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Flash, Black Lighting, Lucifer, Gotham, Krypton (season 1)
be sure to ask if you're unsure- I write mostly for the DC films however there are some comic characters that I love and adore so I will slip them in- I'm also aware that some of the animated series has characters not yet established on the big screen yet that I also will write for
• Law and Order: SVU
All characters: specifically Casey Novak, Olivia Benson and Amanda Rollins since those three are my absolute favourites
* I have yet to catch up from season 19 onwards so I may not be familiar with your character but I will either pass you onto some great blogs that can provide you with the content or will keep it on the back burner for when I have caught up
• Riverdale
All characters
• Brooklyn Nine Nine
All characters
* I have yet to catch up from season 5 so please bare with
• Doctor Who
Amy Pond, Thirteen, Yas
• WWE
Becky Lynch, Rhea Ripley, Tegan Noxx, Charlotte Flair, Baliey, Sasha Banks, Paige
• She-Ra and The Princesses Of Power
All characters
• Grey's Anatomy
Meredith Grey, Cristina Yang, Lexie Grey, Addison Montgomery, Callie Torres, (more to be added as in doing my rewatch for the first time in years)
Most male characters

🏳️🌈 PRIDE 2020 IS DONE!! 🏳️🌈
Here’s an updated list of my Queer-focused fic.
Unsurprisingly, I’ve written a few stories focusing on queer characters and romances.
Agent Carter
Because Girls Love Girls (The Soulmate City Remix) - There’s something in the water and the next thing Angie knows, she’s waking up with the name Margaret Carter wrapped around her wrist. (Angie Martinelli/Peggy Carter)
One Last Kiss (The Final Storm Remix) - You never forget your first kiss with your nemesis. Dottie won’t forget her last either. At Howard Stark’s funeral, she puts a few things in the ground. (Peggy Carter/Dottie Underwood)
Avatar: Legend of Korra

PACK YOUR BAGS FAMERS!
We’re heading to Santorini, Greece! On July 7th - July 13th the entire roleplay will be located in Greece for our annual summer trip! Please remember, this event is mandatory. So whether you are on hiatus or not, you must state that your celeb is/was there.
Celebs will be staying at the Santorini Luxury Hotel Ambassador! The Santorini Luxury Hotel Ambassador will have all celebs stay in vaulted suites that have a private pool in each room and a private patio that will enthrall guests with front row seats to the island's world famous sunsets, as well as great panoramic views of the caldera, with villages comprised of traditional white cube houses scattered along the cliff's edge. Guests can sit back and enjoy amenities that include: spas, lounges, bars, indoor and outdoor pools, 5 star restaurants, babysitting, and fitness center.
Under the cut you will find your roommates! Please know, your roommate is also your SYNC partner for the month of July. That means you will have the entire month (until July 31st at midnight EST) to get a thread done with your partner! Because we are giving the entire month to get this done, everyone is included on the list regardless if they are on hiatus or not. However, those on reduced activity were NOT included. The subject of your thread does not have to be about the Greece trip! Please remember the following:
This is a mandatory thread. We will be keeping track, please do not make us give out strikes :(
Please tag the main in your chatzy, para, gif chat or f2f when you reach at least 8 notes.
Texts also count! Please send your text thread to the main via IM once you reach at least 12 notes since those don’t require as much.
No matter what type of thread you and your partner choose, please make sure it has substantial replies (on both ends) and not just a three word reply - the point is to build new connections!
New members coming into the group will be added up until July 10th.
After that they will not be added into the list since it wouldn’t be fair to hold them to the same requirements with less time.
If your partner goes inactive or decides to leave the rp - we will message you and you can decide if you’d like a new partner or you can just be removed from the current list.
Please do message us if your roommate has not replied to you to plot or if they are on the verge of going inactive, as we will take everything into consideration <3
If you got paired with another FC that you play, please send us a message and we’ll fix that for you right away!
If you cannot find your FC in the list, please let us know so we can fix that as well!
All pairs were made with a random generator!
Please be mindful that this list can and will change because of unfollows, activity checks, and/or new members being added into the group. So please make sure to like this notice so you can keep track of things :)
If you’re reading this list, go ahead and reach out to your partner! Please do not wait to for them to reach out to you.
Please like this notice so we know you’re all up to date! :)
* Bold means waiting for account Strike through means account was unfollowed in activity check. Will be removed 24 hours after activity check.
