Welcome to my library. This is the Lauki section, more specifically Lauren x Kieran. A few notes before you continue: I am very picky about what I read, what does that mean? While I judge stories on the storyline as well, it’s mostly about how the stories are written (writing style). Also please remember that 90% of these stories contain dark content, so proceed with caution; dark content means smut and/or 18+ content in general.

Sorcery and Small Magics by Maiga Doocy
Tumblr media
What a great first read for October. I really loved this and I hate that I waited so long to start it that I can't promote it for LibraryReads.
THIS BOOK DESERVES TO MAKE LIBRARYREADS!
Curse my thematically timed reading habits.
Anyway, this book is about two mages, one who understands and crafts spells, Leo Loveage, and one who has the power to cast them, Sebastian Grimm, and their Howl's-Moving-Castle-esque adventure into the magical wilderness to undo a curse.
What curse? (You might ask.) One that keeps Leo bound to Grimm's every order, and one he can't even flee without serious physical consequences. One that could get them both in a huge amount of trouble.
This is a great magical cozy adventure story for spooky season. As mentioned above, I think that fans of Howl's Moving Castle will eat this up.
The only content warning I could see here was the forced obedience and very mild violence. This is mostly a cozy fantasy.
5/5 stars.
I did not expect this to be one of my favorite reads this year. It might be that it hit me at the right time, but it's at least partially because I love to see the enemies to lovers trope done right (aka slow burn).
By the end of this book they've gone from academic nemeses to sort of friends. We'll have to wait for book two to see where things go from there.
I liked the magic system too. It's just the right amount of fleshed out for a cozy fantasy series. We have scriveners, who are able to craft spells and put them to paper, and the far more common casters who are able to provide the energy to make the magic. I do want more world building but there's definitely going to be another book and when do I not want more world building?
And the way that music and magic weave together to make Leo unintentionally one of my favorite bards? Delicious. The fact that Leo is a hot mess of a person is also right up my alley.
The book is told in just his perspective too, which is clever, because towards the end I had a little moment where I was like, "Grimm, I know that's a lie." But I guess we'll have to wait to find out since we never get a pov for him.

This breathtaking collectible is only available on a limited first print run, a must-have for any book lover. “Exquisite and devastating. It won’t fail to move you.” —Shelley Parker-Chan, #1 bestselling author of She Who Became the Sun
Inspired by the legend of Xishi, one of the famous Four Beauties of Ancient China, A Song to Drown Rivers is an epic novel steeped in myth about womanhood, war, sacrifice, and love against all odds as the fate of two kingdoms hangs in a delicate balance.
Her beauty hides a deadly purpose.
Xishi’s beauty is seen as a blessing to the villagers of Yue—convinced that the best fate for a girl is to marry well and support her family. When Xishi draws the attention of the famous young military advisor, Fanli, he presents her with a rare opportunity: to use her beauty as a weapon. One that could topple the rival neighboring kingdom of Wu, improve the lives of her people, and avenge her sister’s murder. All she has to do is infiltrate the enemy palace as a spy, seduce their immoral king, and weaken them from within.
Trained by Fanli in everything from classical instruments to concealing emotion, Xishi hones her beauty into the perfect blade. But she knows Fanli can see through every deception she masters, the attraction between them burning away any falsehoods.
Once inside the enemy palace, Xishi finds herself under the hungry gaze of the king’s advisors while the king himself shows her great affection. Despite his gentleness, a brutality lurks and Xishi knows she can never let her guard down. But the higher Xishi climbs in the Wu court, the farther she and Fanli have to fall—and if she is unmasked as a traitor, she will bring both kingdoms down.
"Stunning and heart-rending." —Chloe Gong, #1 bestselling author of Immortal Longings
Review:
A beauty who is tasked to seduce an enemy king in order to avenge her sister's death and save the lives of her people...but finds herself for the handsome military advisor, a heart breaking story of sacrifice, forbidden romance, and womanhood. Xishi is a beauty, which would be seen as a. blessing as she would be able to secure a good marriage to support her family... except she draws the attention of a famous military leader, Fanli. Fanli offers her an opportunity: in exchange for her using her beauty to seduce and help destroy a neighboring kingdom that seeks to ruin them and work as a spy.... he will protect her family and she would save their people. Xishi and Fanli grow closer and closer.. but as she delves deeper into the enemy king's court the higher the risks become and the deadlier the game gets as all eyes are on her and if her act isn't perfected then she could lose her life and the life of everyone she holds dear. This was a fantastic read and the ending was heartbreaking. I am a sucker for stories like these and this one was inspired by the legend of Xishi, one of the Four Beauties of Ancient China. This is a beautiful story of the lengths that we would go to to protect what we love, the endurance and constant trials that Xishi is put through is just testament to her strength. I really had fun reading this one and would absolutely recommend it! If you love forbidden romance, political intrigue, and inner strength, I would absolutely say add this book to your TBR.

The Fiancée Farce by Alexandria Bellefleur
Alexandria Bellefleur knows exactly what a girl wants. Gorgeous love interest? Check. Book-related career? Check. Marriage of convenience that sparks an enviable romance? Double check. Bellefleur is in the LibraryReads Hall of Fame for a reason.
I have been desperate to get my hands on The Fiancée Farce for months, and when I tell you I had to stifle a scream when I saw that I was approved on Edelweiss, I’m not kidding. Normally, you have to be careful getting your hopes up so high when you only have the summary of a book, but I was hooked right away. Gemma and Tansy had such palpable chemistry, Bellefleur beautifully designs their complementary dialogue with such spark and sweet banter. Gemma is a swoon-worthy love interest, especially with some angst to kickstart her journey to do a little emotional development. Tansy is very sweet and as a book lover, it was so fun to see the shy bookstore worker get some attention from her beautiful crush.
If you saw the cover and, like me, immediately made grabby hands at your screen of choice, you absolutely must get your hands on a copy. You won’t regret it!
I received an advanced digital copy from Edelweiss and was not required to give a positive review.

"I loved Daisy and Brittney so much. Sambury wrote these two characters so well - they are angry, they are withdrawn, they are vengeful, and they are messy. Their character development was incredible to see on the page, and I really did love how their stories ended" ~ Sanjariti
Sanjariti, we couldn't agreed more. Delicious Monsters was a page turner from start to finish!
We have hardcover editions in stock signed by Liselle Sambury! Link: @sistahscifi | www.sistahscifi.com | https://sistahscifi.com/products/delicious-monsters. Better yet, check it out from your local #library!
Reposted @sanjariti DELICIOUS MONSTERS🌿⁣
Liselle Sambury @lisellesambury has written such a thought-provoking, raw, and terrifyingly haunting story that everyone must read.⁣
DELICIOUS MONSTERS is a well-crafted, multi-layered story that is creepy, smart, and honest. Sambury weaves together a powerful narrative that tackles important and difficult topics, like abuse, neglect, racism, sexual assault, grooming, and even how the cycle of abuse is perpetuated through generations, in a very thoughtful manner. ⁣
I am a huge fan of the body horror trope, and the way Sambury utilizes it to talk about real life horrors and tragedy is incredibly impactful, and adds so much to the story without coming off as something done for pure shock value.⁣
I loved Daisy and Brittney so much. Sambury wrote these two characters so well - they are angry, they are withdrawn, they are vengeful, and they are messy. Their character development was incredible to see on the page, and I really did love how their stories ended.⁣
All in all, I was thoroughly impressed by Sambury’s writing with this book, and it has solidified just how much talent in the writing craft they have. I cannot wait to see what Sambury comes out with next!⁣

All my love and thanks to library staff across the US who voted to include THE HURRICANE WARS on the LibraryReads Top Ten List 🥹🫶🏼 I was a socially awkward turtle growing up and the school library was my refuge, as well as where I discovered the formative books that set me on the path to becoming a writer. Thus, this recognition is very near and dear to my heart and I also want to use this time to tell everyone to support and appreciate your local library because it’s such a special place 💕 Check out the full list at LibraryReads.Org 🌩️

Everything I read regarding Eren and Mikasa is on AO3, I don’t use wattpad or tumblr for stories but if I do happen to read a long story on tumblr I’ll be adding it to the list. Everything on here is rated E, except for a few, please remember that an E rating can be from curse words, to sexual content, or something more. Read the tags and warnings of the story before proceeding and if anything is wrong with a link or a story is deleted please let me know and I will fix or replace it.
