btw if you borrow dvds or cds from library you can rip them onto your own blanks or onto your hard drive or whatever. librarians don’t care and they won’t know if you do it or not
#not pjo#chitter chatter#library tag#when I was training as a page one librarian was showing us the music section#and was like people come in and take out a bunch of cds and rip them onto their phones and return them the next day#it’s materials moving in and out baby that’s all that matters#get yourself a library card#(not all libraries have a music and dvd/bluray section but it’s worth checking!)#(and get a library card even if you don’t use it)#(but check out your local library to see what they do offer bc there’s lots of programs and other things too)#(not every public library is perfect but you can help influence it to make it the space you want)#100#1000

Barbara Gordon's Coding & Computer Cram School is a popular YouTube series. Tucker Foley is a star student.
Barbara Gordon's Cram School posts free online courses for both coding and computer engineering. Think Crash Course in terms of entertainment, but college lecture in terms of depth. Hundreds of thousands of viewers flock to it— students who missed a class, people looking to add new skills to a resume, even simple hobbyists. It’s a project Barbara’s proud of.
Sometimes, when she wants to relax, she’ll even hop in the comments and spend an afternoon troubleshooting a viewer’s project with them.
User “Fryer-Tuck” has especially interesting ones. Barbara finds herself seeking out his comments, checking in on whatever this crazy kid is making next. An app for collecting GPS pings and assembling them on a map in real-time, an algorithm that connects geographic points to predict something’s movement taking a hundred other variables into account, simplified versions of incredibly complex homemade programs so they can run on incredibly limited CPU’s.
(Barbara wants to buy the kid a PC. It seems he’s got natural talent, but he keeps making reference to a PDA. Talk about 90’s! This guy’s hardware probably predates his birth.)
She chats with him more and more, switching to less public PM threads, and eventually, he opens up. His latest project, though, is not something Barbara has personal experience with.
FT: so if you found, hypothetically, a mysterious glowing substance that affects tech in weird and wacky ways that could totally have potential but might be vaguely sentient/otherworldly…. what would you do and how would you experiment with it. safely, of course. and hypothetically
BG: I’d make sure all my tests were in disposable devices and quarantined programs to keep it from infecting my important stuff. Dare I ask… how weird and wacky is it?
FT: uhhh. theoretically, a person composed of this substance once used it to enter a video game. like physical body, into the computer, onto the screen? moving around and talking and fighting enemies within the game?
FT: its been experimented with before, but not on any tech with a brain. just basic shields and blasters and stuff, its an energy source. also was put in a car once
FT: i wanna see how it affects software, yk? bc i already know it can. mess around and see how far i can push it
BG: […]
FT: … barbara?
BG: Sorry, thinking. Would you mind sharing more details? You said “blasters?”
Honestly. Kid genius with access to some truly wacky materials and even wackier weapons, she needs to start a file on him before he full sends to either hero or villain.
[OR: Tucker is a self-taught hacker, but if he were to credit a teacher, he'd name Barbara Gordon's Coding & Computer Cram School! He's even caught the attention of Dr. Gordon herself. She's full of sage advice, and with how she preaches the value of a good VPN, he's sure she's not pro-government. Maybe she'll help him as he studies the many applications of ecto-tech!]
#she does end up sending tucker a PC lol#and after she learns he has experience supporting a superhero team maybe pushes his name forward to WEs outreach program for r&d potentials#picks him up by the scruff and says MY coding buddy#also fun fact she had a phd in library science at one point. i like that about her i think we should talk about it a little more#also tucker was making a ghost reporting & tracking app for amity parkers#dpxdc#dcxdp#barbara gordon#tucker foley#prompt#kipwrite

why does no one ever talk about benjamin. always loving, always faithful benjamin. witnessing ayin's sins firsthand, knowing his sin intertwined with ayin's, the sin of not stopping him. the sin of enabling. and at the end of it all, still unable to truly hate the man he dedicated his youth to. if there was one person with so much love in their heart other than carmen, it would be him. he is the one who programmed angela, made her who she is - every part of her that is carmen-like, is thanks to him. benjamin is who understood carmen, not ayin. he taught angela everything she knows. all just to be betrayed by ayin, and avoided by angela.
knowing she was losing her patience, knowing it all was going downhill, he tried to save ayin for the last time, just to be killed by angela. and still he did not hate her. still he couldn't bring himself to feel hatred for these two, especially angela. hokma gave angela the trust and acceptance she was supposed to get. angela says that the tone and shape of her voice is taken from the wisest person there is... she was talking about him. he is the most patient, wise, most loving figure in her life. imagine the heartbreak when she decided to steal the seed of light - the daughter he did most of the work raising finally giving in to her pain and turning on everyone. and he's unable to do anything, stuck in this chassis. everything he worked for is falling apart once more. he will never see ayin again. maybe he will never see angela either, the angela he made with his own hands, again.
but he learns. he won't repeat the mistakes from when he was young. his myriad vices have taught him well. he can't get ayin back. but he still has angela. he cannot undo his actions, but he can make amends. and that he does. despite being killed by the hands of someone he made with so much care, he knows better than to blame her. he knows better than to berate, be cruel, be heartless. he knows better than to be ayin. i wish his gentleness and faith in those he loved was acknowledged, his ability to forgive, even if it goes too far sometimes. he does not enable, but nor does he force. he gave angela a genuine choice. he gave her the space to try and reflect on herself, while letting her know that he will love her all the same, no matter what she does - because he believes in her. he believes in the child whose heart he knows so intimately. he believes in her to make the right decision, to grow, to be better. he allows her to learn right from wrong, on her own terms. angela was blind to hokma's love and acceptance, her world eclipsed by ayin's disgust and abuse - but he waited, patiently, endlessly, putting up with every single mistake and disaster. i wish he was more appreciated. ayin distorted the image of carmen in his head, ignoring how the person who truly understood what carmen wanted was right next to him the whole time. angela obsessed over finding the answer she believed carmen promised her, not knowing he had given her the answer long ago.
#hokma is the dad who stepped up#i wish he won child custody instead of ayin man#do you think that when he was still programming and teaching her#he must have gently touched the glass panes separating him and angela#and softly murmured how he was going to do his best for her with a loving smile#while ayin stood uncaringly nearby#the young and naive benjamin who loved the man beside him and the daughter they both had#hokma lobcorp#hokma library of ruina#hokma lobotomy corporation#lobotomy corporation#library of ruina#project moon

lowkey after like a week and a half of doing mild research into media archives I believe that most old tv should be public domain by default, considering studio execs were basically wiping their asses with the tapes but now want to posture about their copyright when it's a miracle from heaven any of the footage from that era exists
#me: are you going to sell me a dvd with your copyrighted content#big studios: no#me: are you going to put your content on your personal company streaming service#big studios: also no#me: can you let the archives you've donated your stuff to digitize it and host it online requiring you to do nothing#big studios: definitely not#me: can i at least pay the library of congress an ungodly amount of money for one (1) dvd for my own use of a 20 minute program#big studios: no it's copyrighted <3#plaster this with a big disclaimer that I don't necessarily understand much of copyright law and it gets complicated especially with#dramatic anthologies that were produced under actors unions' agreements that this was a live-taped performance and would never be seen agai#but I don't see how the current situation benefits the artists to be quite honest.#most of them are no longer with us and those that are might like to see some of their old work as well .. just a thought.#when i'm president every streaming service will be required to match the production costs of every slop show they produce that#ends up cancelled after 5 episodes and written off for tax purposes#with an equal donation to digitizing and hosting film and television archives

Hello everyone,
This is your periodic reminder that if you want to read a book and don't want to pay for it, most libraries allow you to request them to buy books at no cost to you so long as you have a (free) library card! Please don't pirate books! They are not like movies or franchises and you will directly harm the author by not paying them.
(Also because I've heard about people doing this: Buying the book from Amazon, reading it, and then returning it actively costs the author money. Also, this is exactly how libraries are supposed to work. And yes, libraries do have systems to let you check out eBooks!)
#bookblr#books and libraries#bookworm#books and reading#public libraries#You can also do this with movies shows and games#I understand the urge to pirate but seriously#This is what libraries are for#And the best part?#All you need to do to support the library is use it!#The more people who take advantage of this stuff#the more funding and attention the library gets#because they can show that their programs are needed and that people are using them#You can do so much good for 0 money

I think I might've accidentally convinced my library to have tool section where you can check out types of tools for home projects.
Like, I called them once asking if they had something and found out the library I was thinking of was my old town's library and this library didn't do that
And when I went in recently I noticed they were starting a tool collection in the library for people to check out
#accidentally started a public program#its kind of a funny story#library#public libraries#gotta love the libraries

i think what's really irritating about situations where i'm offered random dogs is that having multiple dogs makes people think i'm some sort of charity when it's actually the opposite. my pack is heavily and carefully curated. i know what i want from a dog that is coming into my pack and don't stray from these wants for the good and wellbeing of my existing dogs. the only person i think is acceptable to offer me a dog is a breeder i've been already talking to about potentially getting a dog from already point blank and period. (and even then i've turned down a great offer recently from MY dogs breeder because it just wasn't timed correctly/dog import law bullcrap etc). just because i have made the choice for myself to have multiple dogs does not make me a charity home for dogs people cannot care for anymore. i sincerely feel for dogs in this sort of situation, but malamutes are overall better off going to experienced fosters and breed specific rescues instead of having people blind message people who own the same breed on your facebook timeline. and i don't trust a non-breed specific persons evaluation of temperament at ALL. for a malamute to have success in re-homing you must be knowledgable about the breed or else they're going to end up right back where they started.
#dogblr#alaskan malamute#i'm just. why would i trust#the person i had to remind not to run dogs in 85F in JULY years ago who still runs her siberians in summer#who has unhealth tested litters of puppies every year just so they can run 'sled dog puppy library programs' locally#on the temperament of a breed they are unfamiliar with?#and like where is the dog's breeder? why can't they take her back? oh wait...#pro responsible breeding#pro ethical breeding#i see this happen to so many sport dog people honestly it really irritates me#when my fellow musher friends have to tell people publically to stop thinking they'll just take huskies and husky mix dogs#out of the goodwill of their heart#when they're trying to build race kennels and breeding programs#yes the dogs deserve a home but having multiple dogs does not = charity
