Even in the age of next-day delivery, self-checkout, and gigabit internet, some things can't be rushed. The cars, trucks, and SUVs seen here won't reach dealer lots for anywhere from a few months to a few years. Some of them are about to roll down the assembly line. Others haven't emerged from the design studio yet. We're telling you about them now, though, because these are the vehicles that will matter, regardless of how many boring crossovers automakers puke out. These are worth the wait.
Our sneak peek at the most promising cars, trucks, and SUVs of the next few years.

I feel like when you say you're a car nerd, people assume you're either into sportscars/racecars or, like... I don't know what to call the other category. Classic cars? I dunno. I just know that people go wild over cars that aren't currently made and I haven't ever really looked into the reasons why but I'm sure they make sense once you have the right background.
But anyway, there is also a third option? Because I just found out about the Kia Niro PHEV, and man is that a fascinating car. It's far from perfect, but it really seems to hit a sweet spot of market segments that none of the other manufacturers seem to offer (in the US).
Like, look. Say you don't have kids, you want a car, and you're financially well-off enough to follow the Sam Vimes boots principle. You probably want to have at least 4 seats in your car that are actually, legitimately comfortable for adults, yeah? Kind of limiting not to. But beyond that, unless you have specific needs there's no reason to have a larger, more expensive, or less fuel efficient (and thus more expensive, in the long run) car than that. If you can afford the upfront cost, you want to be able to do 80% of your driving trips on electricity because CO2 bad (so, PHEV or EV), but ideally the upfront cost isn't exorbitant. You want to be able to do long trips without borrowing a different car or something, so the range on long trips should be good (no super-short-range EVs, though these days they're all solid) and if you're doing them on gas you still want to be efficient. In a perfect world, your car drives/accelerates well even though it's fuel efficient, it isn't ugly as sin (though you'll likely have to deal with some "I'm an electric vehicle" styling, rip), and you're not handing money to Elon Musk.
The way I see it, we're either okay with a full electric vehicle and the limitations that come with that (I haven't looked into them lately, but presumably something like a Bolt or Ioniq), or we're not. And if we're not... then basically we just want a Prius Prime but normal-shaped, so you don't hit your head on the ceiling, and somehow without a higher price tag or a significant reduction in efficiency. Oh wait, that exists. Wild. I mean, I expected and would honestly have been fine with fuel economy in the mid-30s since you should be on electricity most of the time anyway, but okay, sure, I will take forty eight miles per gallon, yes please, Kia are you cheating on the EPA tests you have to tell me if you're cheating on the EPA tests.
So, yeah. But anyway I feel like when you say you're a car nerd you mean... not like this. So I'm never sure how to, you know, get that across.
(Aside: if you do have a big family and want to throw a lot of money at a super nice electrified 7-seater without actively throwing money away, the Pacifica PHEV and Mazda CX-90 PHEV seem like really interesting options in the absence of a hypothetical Toyota Sienna Prime/Toyota-Highlander-Prime-that's-not-a-Lexus. Another US market segment with a lot of missing options at the moment. Did you know the base model Sienna is a hybrid now, though? That's neat.)

Hi, I had a slightly stupid idea. If you compare photos of Lexus, where he is without lacrima and with lacrima, then he has different hairstyles. When he was little, his hair was lying down, but if you look at an adult, his hair stands up straight. I used to think that this hairstyle was from Makarov, (in his youth he had a similar hairstyle), but now I think there is electrified hair. That is, because of his magic, his hair is in this position. What do you think?
That's a funny idea! And maybe not even too far-fetched and certainly possible, I think.
Funnily Ever demonstrated the same floating hair (which didn't end up spikey due to its length) in that extra filler episode where she's full of static electricity. xD I am not the least bit surprised that Laxus would run around like this and I read that many headcanons for him include him constantly running some slight current of electricity through his body and thus giving everything and everyone he touches with bare skin a small shock. xD
I really like that idea, actually, myself. I think, without thinking, that I may have applied this theory myself for quite some time. On the other hand, he clearly isn't shocking people around him in the canon so I guess he also is just a normal dude who happens to wear his hair like that. So if you ask me again, I'd probably say it's just coincidence and a design choice made for the same reasons as his lightning bolt scar. xD

The Electric Avenue: Navigating the Future with America's Favorite Car Brands. from Our Auto Expert on Vimeo.
As the dawn breaks on a new era in the automotive industry, a quiet revolution is taking place on the streets and highways across America and beyond. The shift from the rumble of gasoline engines to the whisper of electric motors is not just a trend; it's a transformation that's setting the course for the future of driving. Major car manufacturers, long celebrated for their iconic models, are now racing towards a greener, more sustainable future, electrifying their portfolios in an ambitious bid to redefine mobility in the 21st century.
From Tradition to Innovation: The Electrification of Heritage Brands
BMW is charting a course towards a future where luxury and electric propulsion coexist, targeting 2 million fully electric vehicles on the roads by 2025 and aiming for electric vehicles (EVs) to comprise half of its global sales by 2030. Ford is not far behind, with the F-150 Lightning leading its $22 billion electric venture, embodying the brand's vision for a carbon-neutral future by 2050. General Motors takes the aspirations a notch higher, with plans to eliminate gas and diesel vehicles from its lineup by 2035, highlighting Cadillac's transformation to an all-electric brand by 2030 as a key milestone.
Innovating for a Greener Tomorrow: The Diverse Paths to Electrification
Honda embraces the future with a focus on electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, targeting a complete phase-out of gas cars by 2040. Hyundai-Kia is equally committed, investing $7.4 billion in the U.S. to support its vision of electric mobility, albeit without forgoing internal combustion models entirely. Yet, their goal of producing half a million battery cars annually by 2026 is a testament to their dedication to change.
Luxury and Performance Brands Leading the Charge
The drive towards electrification is not limited to mainstream brands. Luxury and performance car manufacturers are at the forefront of this shift, with Jaguar Land Rover pledging an all-electric lineup by 2030 and Mercedes-Benz setting its sights on an EV-only platform starting in 2025. These ambitious plans are not just about adhering to environmental standards but reimagining the essence of luxury and performance for the electric age.
A Broad Spectrum of Commitments Across the Industry
The electrification movement spans across a wide array of brands, each with its unique timeline and vision for the future. Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Lotus, and Aston Martin are all on paths to electrify their lineups, targeting various milestones throughout the next decade. Bentley and Cadillac aim for complete electrification by 2030, while Buick, Genesis, Lexus, and Maserati share similar goals, each carving out its niche in the electric future.
The Evolution of Electrification Across Brands
Other brands like Mini, Rolls-Royce, Volvo, and Audi have also set ambitious goals for an electric future, with timelines stretching into the 2030s. Chevrolet and GMC, under the GM umbrella, align with the broader corporate vision of phasing out combustion engines by 2035. Meanwhile, Acura and Honda in North America, alongside Nissan, Jeep, and Kia, are focusing on significant electric sales targets for the next decade, underscoring the industry-wide commitment to change.
The Road to an Electric Future
As these automotive giants navigate the transition to electric mobility, the impact of their journeys will be felt far beyond the auto industry, driving innovation, sustainability, and a new vision for the future of transport. This transformation promises not only to reduce emissions and combat climate change but also to redefine the driving experience for millions. The electric future is not just on the horizon; it's here, accelerating faster than ever, powered by the vision and commitment of America's favorite car brands. Stay tuned as we continue to follow this electrifying journey towards a cleaner, greener world.
