!!! guysguys csm snail info here !!!
Tumblr media
in the intro of chainsaw man, makima feeds denji a snail,, but it is not just any snail..
it is a succinea snail that has a leucochloridium (spelt that from memory, might be wrong) parasyte which are very intersting actually!! so this parasyte lives in a cycle like this
Tumblr media
so the snail eats bird caca with the eggs of the parasyte in it,, which then grow and make their way into the eyestalks, so they throb and dont allow the snail to retract their eyestalks. this is so a bird might mistake the snail for a catterpillar, since the bird might not want to bother trying to deal with a snail hiding away in their shell. While it is in the snail, it also influences their behaviors by making them hangout in brighter areas that are higher up and more open, so the bird is more likely to find them.
then the bird eats the eyestalks of the snail and the parasyte is in its tummy, where it makes the babies and gets shitted out
so what thsi means for csm is that.. . denji will shit out babies. its true. i swear
(someone whos good at analyzing stuff plssss tell me symbolism more than like. parasyte bc makima bad bc i can not conjure it up on my owwwwnnn)
shit have i been spelling parasite wrong

i think ppl pathologize parasitism in nature to an unhealthy degree. Parasitism as a lifestyle in nature isn't some unnatural disruption of the host or the community's functioning; if anything, parasites facilitate energy transfer between several trophic levels and even ensure populations don't grow to an unsustainable degree. Their methods of reproduction and travel are fascinating! By numbers alone their living style is more common than traditional predation! Maybe their relative obscurity to us makes us fear them in ways that eerily reflect past attitudes about keystone predators like wolves. Mainstream opinion on the living style of parasitism tends to place human feelings of violation and disgust onto species that it doesn't apply to; frankly, applying these attitudes to host species and their parasites obfuscates their actual relationships and makes it very very difficult to overcome these biases to learn more about their actual effect on their communities. It's honestly a little disheartening to see folks start to embrace "unpopular" animals like spiders and continue to thoughtlessly hate every parasite they hear about. Cordyceps fungus and Leucochloridium flatworms, i am so sorry for what the internet says abt u <3

The worm infested fingers of Gurusite multiply upon mega evolving and now each finger has its own parasite, writhing independently of its main body. The shell has grown, becoming much larger and hiding almost the entire body whilst the parasites deal with whatever goes on outside with their collective psychic power. This snail is dead and it's been taken over by a parasite controlling its motor functions & eye stalks, mimicking caterpillars. The parasitic worm wants the snail to be eaten by birds, in whose intestines it will reproduce. 🐌
The snail is infected by a parasitic flatworm called Leucochloridium paradoxum, also known as the green-banded broodsac. This parasite has a complex life cycle that involves two hosts: a land snail and a bird. The parasite’s eggs are released by the bird in its feces, which are then ingested by the snail. The eggs hatch into larvae called miracidia, which develop into a branching structure called a sporocyst inside the snail’s body.
Some of the branches of the sporocyst grow into long tubes that end in a swollen sac, which is called a broodsac. The broodsac occupies one or both of the snail’s eye stalks, where it pulsates and displays bright green and yellow bands. These colors and movements mimic the appearance of a caterpillar, which is a prey item for many birds. The parasite also alters the snail’s behavior, making it more likely to expose itself to sunlight and predators.
The parasite’s goal is to get the snail eaten by a bird, which is its primary host. When the bird consumes the broodsac, it releases hundreds of metacercariae, which are the infective stage of the parasite. The metacercariae travel to the bird’s cloaca, where they mature into adult worms and reproduce sexually. The cycle then repeats itself with the bird’s feces.
The parasite is very harmful to the snail, as it consumes its nutrients, damages its tissues, and reduces its chances of survival. The snail may not be dead yet, but it is essentially a zombie controlled by the parasite. The parasite is also a potential threat to human health, as it can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions if it penetrates human skin. I hope you learnt something new today. 😊🙏

Death
Death is one of the most feared cards in a Tarot Deck, and it is very misunderstood. However, the real meaning within the Death card is one of the most positive in the whole deck. It symbolizes the end of a cycle or transformation, and signifies a profound and inevitable change - typically accompanied by the removal of the old to make way for the new. This card doesn't necessarily represent literal death, but rather the termination of something in one's life, leading to rebirth and renewal. The green-banded broodsac (Leucochloridium passeri) is a parasitic flatworm that infects the eyestalks of snails, altering the snail’s behavior in a transformative way that is quite symbolic of the Death card. The parasite's eggs develop inside the snail, and eventually, they need to be released to complete their life cycle. As the parasite matures, the infected snail's eyestalks become swollen and pulsate with vibrant colors, mimicking the appearance of caterpillars or worms. This manipulation makes the snail's eyestalks more noticeable and attractive to birds, the final host of the parasite. Just as the Death card represents a profound transformation and the shedding of the old to embrace the new, the L. passeri parasite enacts a radical change in the snail's behavior, effectively sacrificing its well-being for the propagation of the parasite. This process mirrors the idea of making way for new beginnings, even though it involves a seemingly destructive transformation. Overall, this duo reminds us that in order to grow and evolve, we must be willing to release old habits, thoughts, or situations that no longer serve us. Change is a constant, and it is through embracing it that we can navigate life's challenges more effectively. They encourage us to confront our fears and misconceptions about change and transformation, and to explore the intricate connections in the natural world, even when they might seem unsettling.

Isn't it strange how we romanticize animals that hunt, but demonize parasite for "hunting" but failing to swiftly kill their hosts? Why isn't keeping domesticated animals considered parasitic? Why aren't humans called parasites of cows for milking them? We whisper in horror of the ways that these worms manipulate the minds of their hosts, making sun-shy snails seek daylight where they are exposed to hungry birds-- But, when we breed chickens that cannot fly, and docile goats and pigs who do not recognize the danger posed by humans as their wild cousins might we draw no parallels. When it comes to human empathy arthropods and invertebrates start with a great deficit of trust. We hold them suspect unless they conform strictly to arbitrary ideas about what is moral or good. And even then they only really stand a chance if they they two big cute eyes, for us to write an imagined soul upon.
was pleasantly surprised to find this celebrity parasite in the woods! Leucochloridium are trematode flatworms famous for extending colorful, pulsating broodsacs into ambersnails’ eystalks so birds mistake them for tasty caterpillars and become the next host for the parasite
I hope the little critter has good luck getting its sacs eaten, and uh. hope the snail manages okay..?

I wanted a Bug/Psychic and Leucochloridium seemed like the right idea. Ended up being another early route bug but its kit seems to be working quite well. Hermisite are a partnership beween psychic worms and a slimy snail, employing the best of both to eke out a living. The pulsing of the worms attracts and distracts opponents whilst the snail, safe in its shell sprays them with slick adhesive slime. By moving to the fingers, the worms within a Gurusite gain better range and mobility and have become more effective at broadcasting their psychic powers. Particularly powerful Gurusite may have a worm in each of its fingers, intensifying its power immensely. --Attack Info-- --Ability Info--
