Right! I feel like people forget that Marinette had seen some truly traumatic shit when the truth gets revealed to Adrien specifically, like people are forgetting that she’s traumatized by Chat Blanc and how she was trained under Master Fu and his principle is to always keep her secret identity and any secrets of the miraculous to herself. Plus, Ephemeral which was her sign that revealing their identities is still a risk while Hawkmoth was at large.
Also, Marinette was willing to dissolve her relationship with the Girl Squad back in Gang of Secrets because they were close to finding the Miracle Box. The fact she even opened up about her secret to her best friend is HUGE to her.
Plus, Marinette is clearly just so horrified and feels so guilty because she thinks it’s her fault that Gabriel is dead and Adrien is now all alone. The girl clearly struggled with even telling him that his father is now gone and probably wished she could bring him back for him because Marinette is selfless and wants Adrien to be happy.
Marinette clearly had good intentions and she wanted to soften the blow for Adrien because as we’ve seen what happened when Adrien finds out about Hawkmoth two times and both of them ended the world.
"well if I went through a harrowingly traumatic experience that involved being viciously attacked and watching two of my boyfriend's parents die and seeing the corpse of his third, i would feel completely comfortable telling him that his dead dad and extra parent were evil terrorists and also that he's been mind controlled his entire life and his existence is a lie and he's not even human. all on top of breaking the news to him that he’s been orphaned. at age 14"
speak for yourself man i can't even make phone calls

Aot characters with a crush and in a relationship (spoilers for all the anime tbh) (HAVENT proof read sorry for any mistakes)
Tumblr media
- compliment her at all and she’s a blushy mess
- showing gratitude towards her also makes her blush
- she is protective, acts like a mom sometimes since she’s always making sure you’re eating, sleeping etc. she is very worried for your health usually and if you’re anything like eren she has to constantly look after you
- not good at comforting or affection; she would be very flustered if you hugged her though
- quite protective in general but especially with you
- you’re her top priority in battle and at times it clouds her judgement
- if somebody ever hurt you she will attack them unless somebody stopped her
- she is very jealous also, like if anyone took an interest in you she is very annoyed by them so quick dude
- kinda tries to get rid of the person and get you to stop talking to them, she just tries anything she can to get you to stop talking to them if she felt they were truly a threat
- probably gets jealous of Annie
- would blush ofc if anyone suggested her liking you
- would feel betrayed if armin or eren liked you (honestly she’d be so pissed omfg)
- probably would “accidentally” grab your hand somehow, or even to grab your hand to help you up, or to stop you, etc. she tries so hard to be subtle but she is not subtle
- she adores you though for real, anybody can see it as it’s quite obvious ...
- she holds such a attachment to you it doesn’t feel right not having you around she’s kinda clingy..
- she holds in her feelings for a long time because she doesn’t wanna ruin what you have + being in a war and shit really doesn’t help
- she’s scared to lose you, she lost her family already and almost lost eren so she’s very scared to lose you
- actually that’s how she confessed, she confessed how scared she was to lose you after a nightmare she had and ending up telling you her feeelings and you’ve been together since
- being affectionate is something she isn’t amazing at, but she will try since she’s dating you now
- she is overal very shy, you probably have to initiate most things but after awhile will initiate small things like holding hands
- she likes when you’re affectionate though, and she will tell you that if you ask
- comforting her after a nightmare is a common occurrence, apparently insomnia runs with the ackermans ...
- while she may not be the best with comforting she will do whatever you want, speaking of which she in general will do whatever you ask of her
- loyal to the bitter end it seems <//3
- still a blushy gal
- she just looks at you so lovingly with a smile, she loves you so much
- jealousy is a thing within your relationship but it’s not too common.. but sometimes it happens and she gets possessive and doesn’t know what to do
- still protective, she sleeps with you now and when you don’t she gets paranoid. She gets really worried if youre ever in any distress also
- she adores your hugs the most, please just hug her please she hasn’t felt a proper hug in years
- after this is all over, she really just wants you two to live together and have a normal domestic life. She wants kids too, she truly just wants to be a normal girl with you.
Tumblr media
- with a crush she is not shy unlike mikasa.. she is actually pretty straight forward with her advances and doesn’t beat around the bush about it
- she is very flirty, and will often state she likes you or wants to date you etc
- always protective of you, with how much she flirts maybe she makes it seem like she wants to have a one night stand or something. She shows in other ways she cares for you and is protective
- even before dating can be physically touchy, wrapping an arm around you often. Maybe a kiss on the forehead or cheek, maybe she grabs your hand. That’s when she’s having a good day though.
- she opens up about most things with you ... most things.. doesn’t open up about the titan thing for a long time
- she doesn’t bother to hide anything in terms of her feelings for you, she doesn’t think of relationships and love as weakness and feels no reason to hide your relationship
- she makes it very apparent though she would kill anyone for you if you desired (except historia)
- if anyone threatens you she is killing on sight
- when she’s absolutely sure she is in love with you is when she decides to date you, though she mainly holds back on formally dating you because you could die at any moment
- she literally just asks you out since by now she knows you like her, full confidence but with a soft smile
- now she’s just really affectionate and loving, hand holding at (almost) all times, kisses on the forehead and cheek are still there of course but we all know kissing your lips is her favorite
- she tells you she wants to marry you after all of this is over, you can only hope.
- while showing a much more vulnerable and soft side is rare she shows it when you two are alone and she’s feeling a certain way (take that as you will)
- she’s a big cuddler honestly
- nightmares are often but never wants to admit to it or ask for help, just stay awake with her and help her back to sleep anyways.. she’ll appreciate it more than you know
- as shown by previous statements is very protective of you and honestly would not like anybody that did not like you
- while not overly lovey dovey she has her moments
- she makes you promise her if she dies you better not give up on your life
- but she doesn’t plan on dying anytime soon
- still flirty with you of course but it’s much more cocky/confident (while yes she sounded like that before dating it’s more genuine now, she was kinda worried for awhile you didn’t like her)
- if anyone shows interest in you she is kicking their ass I stg she is such a jealous bitch
- she calls you an idiot affectionately if that was even possible
- “my idiot” like ok girl
- Reiner likes you guys together he adores y’all and so does historia (he probably likes y’all together so he has a better chance with historia)
- just spending alone time at night is your idea of a date since you can’t really go on dates
- trains with you often, especially if you’re weaker than her she can use it as an excuse to help you train
- she ends up just flirting with you the whole time though
- are you clumsy? No? Doesn’t matter you are now because she will constantly make you trip and fall only to mysteriously always be the one to catch you ;)
- she already asked you to marry her all you guys have to do is survive <//3
- usually when flirting it’s about how hot you are, she never really gets sentimental but when she does it’s very sweet
- so many times she’s caught looking at you lovestruck she’s secretly a nerd
Tumblr media
- first glance at you and she’s like “that’s the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen wtf”
- and ever since clings to you like her life depends on it
- fr this girl is a huge simp
- she has a habit of randomly grabbing your hands
- totally not because she just wants to hold your hands
- she likes you so much she will even share her food with you
- sometimes can’t help but blush, it’s always embarrassing to know how flustered she can get around you
- at times can be protective, but really only in battle. How can you expect her not to though?
- often finds excuses to spend time with you, even if Connie and Jean are around it doesn’t matter as long as she’s with you
- Connie definitely teases her about her obvious crush on you, bonus points if you’re oblivious because he will do it even more often
- hugs you randomly
- does stupid shit to impress you, just embarrasses herself
- doesn’t stfu about you when talking to Jean and Connie
- confessing takes a long time, honestly it takes a lot of Jean and Connie convincing her to just tell you already since they’re sick of her embarrassing herself in front of you or just gushing over you
- when confessing, it was simply her telling you how she felt and offering you some meat.
- in a relationship she’s pretty much the same but doesn’t hide how she feels, now not only is she gushing about how much she loves you to your face, but even moreso with Connie and Jean, and embarrassing herself increases... Connie and Jean truly regret their life decisions now
- dates aren’t common for people like you guys but she will just be like let’s eat meat alone together and that’s your idea of a date.
- often goes to you for help when she does something stupid and needs help... like eating all the food
- it’s hard for her not to get bored on certain missions, so you keep her entertained
- honestly you have to keep her from falling asleep
- she tries to goof off with you too much and it gets you both in trouble
- PDA is a big yes if you’re comfortable
- cheek kisses are common
- if she’s ever scared she’ll cling to you, like FR you always make her feel safe and protected.. (even if she’s the one to save you often no matter the situation you make her feel safer)
- always holding hands with you pleass
- she wants to get the war over with so y’all can live together maybe with Connie too
- links arms with you so often
- her idea of being romantic is just sharing meat with you but like at the same time? Yknow that Disney movie with the two dogs sharry spaghetti ? Yeah that’s y’all with meat and bread
- she likes to think she can impress you with her skills but you’re usually the one saving her ass from Titans and her gushing over how strong you are
- you can call her anything even insult her it doesn’t matter she will gush anyways... heart eyes for you all the time wow ..
- loves squishing your cheeks she thinks it’s cute
Tumblr media
- where do I even begin? This girl ... she will do absolutely anything for you, she is so sweet she will just .. do whatever you tell her to
- as long as she sees that it benefits you...
- she can be quite blushy at times though
- she will be so sweet to you, even if you’re a shit. Sure, she’ll have a few things to say about it but she adores you so much she lets it slide and is nice to you
- she’s very touchy physically when liking you, although a bit shy about it she tries to make it seem friendly
- she hates liking you though because we all know she’s a whole ass lesbian that’s a queen and will be forced to marry a guy so ... can’t say she exactly likes that she likes you so much
- she’s not protective as she’s aware of your abilities, she doesn’t feel the need to be and it’s likely you’re tougher than her anyways
- worries for you a lot though, mainly when it comes to how your mental health is
- if youre ever in a tough situation she tries to help any way she thinks she can help
- she doesn’t really tell you how she feels, she thinks it’s just pointless since you might not even like her
- ymir has to egg her on and it eventually works because damn she’s getting on her nerves
- when she does she’s all blushy and feels bad that she can’t offer you much other than food, it’s very heartfelt and sweet though how could you resist?
- while other soldiers might be aware of your relationship for awhile, upon becoming queen it’s mainly a secret
- you will have lots of “midnight talks” which totally aren’t you two kissing and doing whatever...
- probably your own way of having a date though tbh
- she’s gonna be “forced” into pregnancy, if you’re willing to help her raise the child she will be very happy.. your relationship is very much a secret but she sees nobody else the way she sees you
- but back onto general hcs
- cuddling with you often, she likes feeling safe and small with you
- sings you to sleep if you can’t sleep.. she’s good at it
- cheek kisses.. so many cheek kisses
- Eskimo kisses
- she thinks they’re cute leave her alone >:(
- she can’t help but feel happier whenever you’re around, no matter what happens as long as she has you she can always be happy in the end
- you’re just... so special to her :(
- Reiner so jealous ... maybe ymir too..
- having her jump into your arms and you twirling her in the air? Common occurrence
- you calling her princess? Also common . Could be a cute nickname or something sarcastic she hates who knows
- smushes your cheeks together she is such a dork
- just loves you so much, looks at you with so much love.. like you’re the only person in the world
- she wishes you could go on normal dates so bad though
- has a habit of gushing about you to people ..
- everybody ships yall hard though
Tumblr media
- initially doesn’t get what she’s feeling, she’s never liked somebody in the romantic sense so you can’t blame her for not understanding her feelings
- however she is actually nice to you, although she’s got her usual scary face on she doesn’t say mean things to you
- she looks out for you often, and wouldn’t hesitate to tell you that she missed having you around (like ex missing training with you because you’ve been injured)
- pretty honest with you about a lot and how she cares for you, but doesn’t tell you the extent of how much she cares for you
- very protective
- if you got yourself injured she’s angry, will kill whoever got you injured (unless it’s one of your comrades) but would beat the shit outta them
- but would yell at you too
- her feelings are kinda obvious since she would blush if you touched her physically, she’s practically dying inside
- if you’re nice to her it just makes her so blushy but so happy that she might just smile a little
- you pay attention to her and she’s all mushy inside
- she’s not sure how she feels approaching you about her feelings especially if you’re the enemy but she does so anyways because she can’t ignore her feelings any longer. She holds in her emotions for so long and eventually can’t hold it in
- she tells you straight up how she feels, and that’s the end of it. She doesn’t ask if you wanna date, that’s all it is.
- dating you though makes her nervous. Before entering the relationship opens up completely about being a titan, and her whole situation. If you stick with her anyway she’s happy and loves you very much.
- poor bertholdt
- she’s not good with being affectionate so please initiate most things, she will learn and will be more affectionate as time goes by
- she’s very sweet with you so
- smiles a lot, loves holding your hand and cuddling you
- she’s a big softly with you honestly
- does not like you around historia, she’s very jealous of her low key lol
- she likes being able to protect you, if you try to protect her she will most likely feel embarrassed unless you’re known to be stronger or as strong as her
- stays up late at night with you just talking about whatever
- gushes about how she loves you to your face but only when you’re asleep
- it’s the only time she can let her real feelings for you out okay?
- she’s very blushy around you tho gonna be real
- say you love her? She’s a blushy mess
- “don’t you ever get tired of saying embarrassing shit like that”
- she’s protective and hates the idea of you getting hurt but also would not hesitate to kick your ass if you almost got yourself killed or something and an ass kicking from Annie is not something you’d want
- forehead kisses she loves so much
- she’s kinda unaware of how others may feel towards her but is painfully aware if others like you
- would not hesitate to threaten or blackmail
- stares at you a lot.. she loves you pls .. if you say anything about it she not only stops but probably tells you to fuck off or something
- she hates loving you sometimes because it can be seen as weakness but she can’t help it sadly
Tumblr media
- they are so clingy! Even when you guys are just friends.. they can’t help it though! You make them very happy and they wanna be happy more often than not !
- finds excuses to spend time with you, many people think you’re their assistant rather than moblit because of how much time you spend together.
- they have no fear nor shame, they aren’t against side hugging or hugging in general to be honest
- while yes they get excited about titans to the point of blushing, they get that same excitement around you or even when you’re just mentioned
- always tons of compliments are sent your way, they want you to know how amazing you are !
- they do whatever they can to make sure you’re alive and well, they do a lot of checkups with you as well. Hange is the closest the survey corps has to a doctor, they’re mostly experienced in that field so it’s not like they’re bad for having that be the case.. however..
- this also means people come in sick which means you could get sick! So they do anything they can to prevent that.. after all you being sick means less time with you and that’s not ideal to be honest
- have the tendency to grab your wrist or hand... totally not cuz they like you that would be absurd ..
- whenever they get excited about titans and whatnot they talk to you about it since you’re the only one that listens and doesn’t seem bothered
- they don’t realize their feelings for you, they’re smart but they’re an idiot when it comes to love.. at least with them. If anyone else liked somebody they’d realize, but when it comes to liking somebody, or somebody liking them they’re so oblivious.
- Levi had to push them into asking you out to begin with
- they were nervous, they know how dangerous this job is.. love isn’t ideal... relationships aren’t always something you can do..
- also on top of that you might not even return their feelings
- when they ask you out they simply confess and tell you how they feel, however they tell you they understand that there are some issues within having a relationship with eachother
- when you say yes though they’re very happy and overjoyed
- big cuddlebug, they cannot help it
- always clings to you, constant hand holding
- kissing on your cheek? Often
- cute kisses in general yeah
- like historia, Eskimo kisses >:]
- when being introduced to new people always introduced themselves and then you as their s/o like everytime “this is my wonderful, amazing, perfect s/o!! Y/n!”
- let’s you do their hair in the morning
- speaking of which they’re so clingy you guys probably just sleep together now like they’re just ... they love always being around you
- not too protective, they put a lot of faith in you (maybe too much faith)
- doesn’t shut up about you, they could gush about you for literally hours... even days
- they’re always so happy around you, even in s4 when the war starts to take its toll on them
- they always feel safe and comforted when they’re with you and that’s all that matters to them
- they’re a bit more protective after they lose moblit and Erwin though... can you blame them? They lost important people
- somehow more clingy, (not in front of yelena, onyankopon, they refuse to be lovey around them, and zeke too of course)
- however yes other than that overly clingy, always touching you somehow
- or asking you if they could ever be as good as Erwin, why he would even choose them, etc. they really don’t believe they deserve their position so please remind them he chose them for a reason
- they love you SOO much
Tumblr media
- she can’t help but wanna always be around you, you bring her this sense of peace... something she can’t exactly always have
- she cares a great deal for you, to her you’re something special and she needs to keep around as long as possible
- stares at you lovingly quite often
- not against hugging you randomly either
- wants to always be by your side but also fears coming off too strong as she doesn’t want her feelings being too obvious
- she kinda doesn’t like the idea of being a warrior anymore, she understands the great honor and all that.. but she would’ve liked to live long with you
- she deems you as precious, so she often goes the extra mile to keep you protected and safe
- often hangs around you, porco gets curious as to why she doesn’t hang around him as much till he realizes she found somebody she loves
- he totally tries to get her to ask you out by the way.. there’s no time like now when either of you could die at any moment
- she eventually decided that she agrees with him and asks you out, probably got you some flowers or something you’d like as well..
- as a girlfriend she usually is quite relaxed with you, so she is a big cuddlebug
- usually on top of you while cuddling so she can kinda be on all fours
- not against squishing your cheeks, she loves doing that she thinks it’s cute
- often holding your hand or arm in some way, she needs to she hates not being able to you have become her lifeline
- she would do absolutely anything she could to keep you safe and protected
- dates aren’t often, but who said they couldn’t happen? She likes taking you out on pizza dates
- sometimes gushes about you to porco, he is the only one that will listen and even if he acts annoyed it makes him happy that she has somebody she loves and cares for so much
- often may follow you blindly though, honestly if you wanted to switch around and join up with Levi and the others she would be all for it (reluctantly but yeah, she follows you no matter what)
- that’s cause she cares for you more than she’s ever cared about anybody and will willing do whatever you want her to do
- would sacrifice everything for you she is so giving when it comes to you it’s like something porco has never seen before jfc
- so he definitely warns you of this newfound power and not to abuse it or he will kill you 😁
- okay but seriously despite her unhealthy habits with giving way too much, she adores you and wants what’s best for you she is a sweetheart
- very loyal, even if you tried to push her away
- since she is very smart on the battlefield, if she senses danger of some kind she will make sure you’re away from all of that
- she’s just protective of you at times, she’s scared to lose you sooner than she has to
- I feel like pieck gets flirted with often, due to her strength because she’s the cart titan and being admired but also because hey she’s pretty cute ... jealous you ensues
- she will comfort you though and give you tons of kisses she loves you babe :(
- lots of kisses from her in general though !
- probably suggests just living together cuz she always is around you and just is a clingy baby
- she likes being swung around in your arms, or swinging you around in her arms
- she wishes she met you sooner though, maybe she would’ve never became a titan and you could’ve lived a long life together

“What? Why? Kirishima questioned, poking his head out from behind Bakugo, “We’ve been planning this for weeks! You can't just flunk on us like this!!” Kaminari exclaimed, causing Mina to rethink the amount of time that went into tonight's now somewhat ruined plans “Aha~ yeah... sorry about that guys. Maybe another time.” she scratched the back of her head.
Mina was about to leave before being stopped by a hard grip on her wrist “Oi, raccoon eyes. You better have a good excuse for this.” Bakugo glared, his crimson eyes almost seemed as if they could pierce holes in her soul. ‘Why does Bakugo of all people care!?’ She fumbled on her words, trying to find a reasonable excuse that would reward her the get-out-of-jail-free card without spilling the beans on anything private. “Uh- well- I uhm…”
“Bakugo, leave her alone. Forcing yourself into her business isn’t very manly of you.” Kirishima chimed, ‘Right before I was about to get blown to bits! Thanks, Kirishima!’ Mina sighed in her head, before checking the time. 2:54pm. She promised to meet her date at 3pm.
Before anyone knew it, Mina was dashing down to the common room and out the door, almost appearing as a pink blur to everyone around her.
“Wha-what was that??” “I think that was Mina~” “Where is she going that fast!?” “I don't know,,”  “Mina’s fast but I didn't think she would be able to pull off those kinds of speeds.” the class-A girls conversed, wondering in concern what's got Mina in such a rush.
“Shit! I'm gonna be late! This isn't even the first time!!” Mina panicked, still racing over to the park the two of you had planned to meet at.
Mina recalled the time she came almost 20 minutes late to a date because she didn't know what to wear, digging through her closet to find something she thought you would like. Dresses, skirts, sweaters, shorts, jeans, you name it, she probably tried it.
To say the least, Mina was nervous.
───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰*.:。✧*.。:。*.。✱ ───
Mina continued to race towards the park she had agreed to meet at. Her pace began to slow as her stamina got closer to reaching its limit. “Hey, Mina!!” she heard a familiar voice call out. “Y/n!! Hi!” huffed out as she came to a stop. Mina took a moment to gather her breath, her hands on her knees as she pants. “Did you seriously run all the way here from your dorm?” y/n questioned after a minute of silence.
“Of course I did! I didn’t want to be late,,, again.”
“You’re a riot.”
“Thanks!”
───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰*.:。✧*.。:。*.。✱ ───
The weather outside was nice and the view the park offered was wonderful. Flowers of all sorts bloomed on the flowerbeds. Mina could see daffodils, tulips, alliums, sunflowers, all of different colours. The clouds created gorgeous patterns in the sky, larger ones blocking out the sun and giving the area a slightly darker atmosphere, nobody seemed to mind though. Trees shaded parts of the park, most of the adults seemed to linger around there, watching the children play together.
Mina and y/n took a seat at one of the benches that was shaded by a tall and broad tree, the smell of nature flowing around it, their hands intertwined. Mina wasn’t the best in some compartments, but one thing she is good at is conversation. It's hard to find a dull moment with her, maybe that’s why people like being around her so much. y/n definitely wasn’t at her level when it came to social skills but the conversations between them flowed so effortlessly, the two of them just seemed to click in the best way possible. Two puzzle pieces that were meant to be together, created to be together.
“Hey! Mina, look!!” y/n pointed to an ice cream parlor across the park, a small line of children with their parent’s 5 dollar bills in their hands  “Let’s get popsicles!”
“Sure! Last one there has to pay!!” Mina ran off towards the parler.
“Hey-! No fair!!” y/n ran after her, taking an extra moment to pick up her skateboard, the thought of riding it to pass Mina not crossing her mind. Mina was a fast runner, most of the men in her class not able to compete without their quirks, same thing goes for y/n. It was possible her skateboard wouldn’t even be able to put up a rewarding fight.
Mina waited by the parler, almost mockingly stretching her arms as she waited for her date to catch up. “Took you long enough~!” Mina giggled
“Yeah yeah, whatever,” y/n got out a $15 bill from her pocket before immediately having it taken from her hands. “I was joking! Let me pay instead!” Mina pleaded “I wanna make it up to you for coming late,”
“Babes, you were a minute late..”
“I made you wait an extra minute!! And what about all those other times I-” Mina was cut off by the Parler man clearing his throat to get their attention. She shoved her money onto the counter before ordering y/n’s favourite flavor and a strawberry popsicle for herself. The Parler man took the money before opening  his parler and handing them the requested flavoured popsicles.
“Thanks, sir!” Mina chirps before taking y/n’s hand, bringing her back to the bench the two of them were sitting at before. The two of them unwrapped their cold treats, enjoying and sharing them with each other.
Conversation continued to flow between the two, time quickly passing by. Parents began taking their children home, young adults began walking home from their jobs, the city seemed alive.
Wind blew on the three branches of the park, a chill starting to coat the air.
“It’s probably gonna get cold soon, maybe we should get inside.” y/n proposed
“Yeah... Hey! You should come to the dorms!” Mina was quick to suggest, she’s always wanted to bring y/n to her room. The idea of having y/n close to her body, sharing snacks and watching funny videos on instagram always brought warmth to her heart. The idea of getting caught never really crossed her mind.
“Are you sure? Your classmates are definitely gonna find out.”
“No they won’t, I promise!”
“Mina, they’re heroes-in-training…”
───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰*.:。✧*.。:。*.。✱ ───
When mina was set on a decision, it was hard to get her to settle for something else, that’s something y/n’s learned many times. Mina dragged her partner to the UA dorm buildings, planning out loud what they could do together. Face masks, tiktoks, nails, and dancing are only a few of the activities that came into question.
“I like the sound of face masks, I've been needing one for a while, my acne’s been acting up.” y/n groaned. “Dancing also sounds pretty fun, do you have any new playlists?”
“I always have new playlists! Plus, Jirou recommended me some new songs the other day, her music taste actually isn’t that bad,” Mina giggled, “For a goth, that is.” y/n laughed at her comment.
Mina talked about her classmates often, sometimes even gossiping about them. She never said anything hurtful, though, it was usually just a few mentions after finding something that reminded her of them. She once found a icyhot packet in the store and went on about this hot and talented guy in her class, a frog jumping around near a pond caused her to ramble on about her friend Tsu, and the taste of a tea served to her at a cafe reminded her of the tea her friend Momo would serve at the tutor sessions she hosted.
Soon enough, the couple was standing in front of Heights Alliance, preparing a plan to get inside without being noticed. “Everyone’s usually elsewhere at this time, probably in their rooms or off training or something~” Mina opens the door to the building, “We should be good.”
Mina peeps her head inside, making sure no one was in the common room before she proceeded. She motioned for y/n to come inside, before walking further inside the building. “C’mon, my room is this way!” Mina took y/n’s hand, passing by the common room and to the elevator. y/n couldn’t help but look around, she had never been in the Dormitories until this point, it was much nicer, and bigger, than she expected. The elevator ride was quiet, the fear of having classmates hear them while they continued their loud conversation through the halls on their minds.
The elevator stopped at the selected floor, Mina took y/n’s hand again before leading her to their destination just around the corner. “Here is it! Come on in!” Mina smiled before unlocking and opening her room door.
“Oh wow, so… pink.” y/n gasped “Yeah!! Do you like it?”
“Of course I do! Your whole room just reminds me of you, I love it!” y/n wrapped her hands around her date “And I love you too!”
“I love you more!!” Mina giggled, returning the hug. Her embrace was warm, warmer than one might expect, that might be the result of such a pure heart.
“Whatcha wanna do? I have a bunch of stuff here,” Mina pulls out a box from under her bed and begins to dig through it, “I have face masks and beauty supplies here, snacks and candy hidden around my room, we could also watch some movies or find a show to binge!”
“Face masks are a good idea, and I’m down to watch a movie while we wait for them to dry.” y/n gets down beside her on the ground, watching her sift through her box of stuff.
“Awesome! What movie should we watch? I have a bunch of DVD’s on my shelf but we could always find something on Netflix. Oh and pick your favourite face mask!” Mina presented about 12 different face masks for y/n to choose from.
“Oh~ I like that one! It’s my favourite colour, and it has a nice scent.” y/n picked up the f/c bottle, reading the labels on the back and admiring the smell emitting from it. “Nice choice! I’ll go with this one!” Mina holds up a pink, sparkly bottle with grapefruits and strawberries on the front. “This one’s my favourite, I use it all the time!”
“I can see why,” y/n laughs, Mina joining in.
───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰*.:。✧*.。:。*.。✱ ───
The two of them sat comfortably on Mina’s bed, y/n on her lap and arms wrapped around her. A movie the couple had agreed on plays in front of them on Mina’s laptop as they wait for their face masks to dry, sharing candy she had hid around her room. Mina occasionally placed soft kisses on y/n’s cheeks, jaw and neck, it was her favourite thing to do in this position. While Mina enjoyed receiving affection, she seemed to love giving affection even more.
Soon enough, the movie ended and credits began to roll, giving y/n and Mina a moment to stretch after sitting in one position for over an hour. “That was a good movie.” y/n said between stretches. “Yeah, I’m gonna recommend it to Hagakure, she’s been looking for good movies to watch lately.” Mina got out her phone to check the time, “We still have a few hours, wanna watch another one while we wait for our nails to dry?”
“We’re gonna do nails too?”
“Yeah!”
“Sure.”

Uhm i’m not sure how to continue and end this so i’ll do HCs for this part LMAOO
I gotta get better at writing smh
Anyways, after Mina took you to her dorm for the first time you started coming over more often
The two of you always have a shitton of fun when you do
Not like you ever not have fun with Mina
Although this one time was different~
Your skateboard had dirt and mud on it from riding after a storm, so you had left it by the door to avoid tracking any of it in Mina’s room
But it so happened Denki was walking by and found it in the hallway floor
And seeing it was outside Mina’s door he decided to not knock and ask if it was hers
He caught yall cuddling while binging your favourite anime
“Yo, Mina, is this skateboard you-”
He went 👁️👄👁️
After an eternity a few seconds of pure silence Denki’s like BHJNBHJVHJ WHO’S THAT???? AND WHY ARE YOU SO CLOSE TO THEM-??/?????
Mina sighs and explains the whole thing about how yall have been dating in secret and going on dates and stuff
The look on the boy’s face was literally surprised pikachu
Mina asked him to keep a secret but c'mon now we all know Mr. Kaminari cannot keep a secret for the life of him👩‍🦯 big mouth headass
He told everyone.
the look on Mina’s face when Sero brought up her secret girlfriend the next day was priceless
“H-hOW YOU KNOW ABOUT THAT!?”
“Denki told me.”
Denki: *choke*
He knows he’s ‘bouta get his ass beat.
As for reactions, they’re mainly looking pretty positive ✨
Denki, kirishima, bakugou and sero are the first people to find out, and probably one of the only people Mina talks about you to besides the other class a girls
They’re happy for her (although bakuhoe wouldn’t admit it- he pretends he don’t care but c'mon we know better than that), and definitely wanna meet you sometime soon
All the class A girls and basically screaming
Cuz like- wHAT
How could Mina keep such a big secret grrrrr >:((
She ends up bringing you and the rest of the girls to her room to meet you
Expect expect like 30 questions from each of them about various different topics that may or may not matter
Remember the boys who didn't care about seeing the girl’s rooms in that one episode? Yea this squad is still on their shit🧘🏾‍♀️
Okay well they do care, just not as much dnjskbjdkn
Sato would bake you a yummy cupcake!
You ain’t neva eating something that delicious ever again just sayin~
Everyone else would silently wish to meet you one day
Tenya is probably the only person you should look out for
if you don’t have Aizawa’s permission to be on campus he probably won’t let you inside🖐🏾
aizawa don’t care tho so getting permission isn’t a problem
Overall, 1-A’s reaction to Mina’s girlfriend is pretty positive! 😗✌🏾

“What was school like for you?”
“Like, a regular school day?”
“Yeah, like a regular school day.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A normal day of school for me was like walking around in a glass bubble. This isn’t a metaphor for personal space, but rather the concept of fitting in. Clearly, I fit in at school, but not in the way I expected to. I could walk amongst my peers and smile in their faces, talk with them, but it’d be difficult to hear through the glass of my bubble. We could reach out to each other and hope for a connection, but our hands would forever be disconnected by the glass. But they seemed to be fine with it. They didn’t want to come into my bubble, they just wanted to admire me from the outside. And I supposed I was fine with that, as well. It wasn’t like I opened my bubble for anyone, even invited anyone inside. I let Dina in once and got paranoid. Paranoid that she’d take up the air, that she’d hate my bubble and what I’d have to offer within it. So, I did what I thought was best and kindly asked her to leave. Assured her that she could maybe come back another time, when I was ready. As the sweet and considerate person that she was, she had no problem with it.
Stan didn’t need to live in a glass bubble because he didn’t need to fit in. And I’ve never needed to open the bubble myself to allow him access. He was welcome anytime and entered as he pleased. He was the only person who understood me. I realize that we had more in common than I thought. No one understood our fashion senses, our tastes in music, the way we preferred to keep to ourselves. I could breathe around him and smile and laugh, I mean actually laugh. It was just a shame it all had to wait until after school. Stan and I lived in two different worlds at school. Sometimes I’d catch a ride with him if he left his house the same time I did mine. The second we would set foot on the school campus, we were strangers. It wasn’t that we were embarrassed of each other, I just think Stan was intimidated by the crowd I attracted. Hell, I was intimidated by the crowd I attracted. I’d much rather be walking down those halls with Stan, Dina, and Sydney (if she was comfortable with me). Luckily, I had classes with each of them.
I had nearly every class with Dina, save for honor choir and theatre classes. We found a way to sit near each other in every class we had and talked about everything and nothing for the entire hour. Half of my classes were with Stanley, and those hours were full of glancing at each other and playfully winking or blowing kisses. He’d pass me notes old-school style, but always avoided the route that would lead to either Ricky or Brad. We had a couple of run-ins that led to them teasing Stan before the note could even reach me. Study hall was one of the only times Stan and I would actually sit together and talk in school. Sometimes we’d study, sometimes we’d skip and go smoke outside. Nonetheless, we’d make the most out of our time together.
I only had two classes with Sydney and both included Dina, so there still wasn’t much going on between us at school. She wasn’t as active in gym class as we were, so it was a lot of her cheering us on when we played basketball or dodgeball. She was usually the person to hand me Stan’s notes in science, having to dodge Ricky and Brad’s grabbing hands so that I could quickly snatch it. Luckily, I only had two classes with Ricky and Brad, and they both included Dina and Stan. So, I was never trapped in an uncomfortable situation with Ricky before their eyes.
Science was the most chaotic class for me. Not only did I not care for the subject, but my seat was away from both Stan and Dina. I was nearly sandwiched between Ricky and Brad, which set me on edge most days. Despite this, I simply tried my best to focus on my school work. “And yes, during arousal, there is an increase in all sorts of things, including adrenaline and, of course, blood flow,” Mr File droned on as I wrote down notes in my notebook. Dina always said she thought it was cute how I used different colors for each day. Little did she know, once I started this system, I couldn’t stop it. This was to the point that I had to buy a set of pens for each class. I couldn’t use my green math pen for my Tuesday science class. “And the blood flow continues down and then gets trapped within the corpora cavernosa. The penis expands, and this is how the Homo sapien male is able to hold an erection. Yes?”
My attention was diverted to Bradley, who raised his hand. Once he was called on, he set his hand back down and straightened his posture. “From my experience, Mr File, the holding of an erection is far more successful in the hands of a Homo sapien female.” His inappropriate joke sent an eruption of laughter throughout the classroom. I rolled my eyes in irritation.
“Very funny, Mr Lewis.” Mr File deadpanned.
“Just talkin’ science.”
“Moving on.” As my teacher turned back to the chalkboard, Ricky and Brad reached over my head to high five each other. I scoffed and continued on with my notes. From the corner of my eye, I saw Ricky turn around to speak to Sydney.
“Ah. Oh, come on, fire crotch. Laugh. That was funny.”
“Don’t be a prick, Ricky,” I hissed, the boy’s head snapping over to me. “It wasn’t even that funny.”
Ricky tilted his head at me and gave a soft smile, his hand reaching over and clasping around my wrist. “Okay, babe, I’ll leave your friend alone-”
“And don’t call me babe.” I yanked my wrist from his grasp. He froze, shocked, his mouth opening and closing as if at a loss for words.
“Mr Berry, if you could take your eyes off of Ms (Y/L/N) for one second to listen to my lecture, that would be very much appreciated.” At the sound of Mr File’s voice, Ricky quickly turned forward and returned to his notes.
“I’ll definitely try my best, sir.” He smirked, Bradley chuckling and reaching over my head again to give his friend another high five. My eyes fell on Stanley, who was watching the interaction in annoyance. When his gaze met mine, he gave me a sympathetic look. I only held my fingers in the position of a gun up to my temple and pretended to fire it. He shook his head in amusement before turning his attention back to Mr File. Glancing over my shoulder, I watched as Sydney glanced between Dina and our teacher before her gaze settled on me. She gave me a small smile and mouthed a ‘thank you’. I winked at her and gave a thumbs up. That was the start of one of the very few friendly interactions we’d have throughout the week.
On my way home from school that day, I spotted Syd and ran to catch up with her. “Hey, Sydney.” I grinned, the girl jumping a bit when I appeared by her side.
“O-Oh. Um, hey, Zip.”
“You don’t have to call me that,” I chuckled. “You’re normal.”
She smiled and stared down at her feet. “Uh… Why are you walking with me?” I frowned at her question, but she raised her head quickly. “Like, no offense, but… you usually just… keep to yourself. Or you get a ride from Stanley.”
“I stayed after for theatre rehearsal,” I shrugged. “But we never talk. We’re neighbors, Syd. And we’re both friends with Dina. Isn’t it weird we never talk?”
“Yeah… Yeah, I guess it is.”
“I’m not saying we should hang out everyday and tell each other secrets, but… you know.”
“No, yeah, I get it. I mean, Dina likes you… So does everyone else, so you must be really cool to be around.”
“Well, that’s something you can find out for the both of us. Because I still don’t get it…” I turned my head forward, my voice trailing off. We continued our journey home in comfortable silence, every now and then striking up pebble throwing contests. Sydney had a really nice smile. It was a shame she didn’t use it much. When we reached my street, our walk didn’t last much longer. “Here’s my stop.” I announced, stepping away towards the mailbox to retrieve our mail. Sydney nodded with a smile.
“I’ll, uh… I’ll see you tomorrow-”
“Oh, hey, Syd!” Stan’s voice called out. We both turned our heads to see him getting up from his porch, making his way to the middle of the street to meet Syd. “And my lovely Zip.”
“Hey, beautiful.” I winked, pulling out a couple envelopes from the box. Stanley chuckled fondly at me before looking back to Syd, who was waiting expectantly.
“Oh, my leg fell asleep. One sec,” He then began shaking and stretching his leg, Sydney standing by awkwardly. The sight alone was enough to have me quietly laughing to myself. Stan let out a sigh once he was done and planted his foot back on the ground. “Can I walk with you?”
“Sure. Why not?” Syd shrugged. Stan smiled and turned forward with her.
“Cool.”
As they walked away, I noticed one of the envelopes was addressed to me. Maybe a bit too enthusiastically, I ripped it open. Inside was a lonely check. No note. Just like last time. And the time before that. Taking out the check, my eyes bulged at the number written down. Four hundred dollars?! Four hundred fucking dollars from Dad in two weeks! I tried to think of the upcoming dates. Was Aunt Pam’s birthday coming up? Uncle David’s? Jacob’s? No one’s. So… why did Dad send me twice as much this time? My head lifted to find Stanley happily dancing back up to his house, twirling and jumping with his bare feet. I laughed at the sight. As he descended the slope to his house, he motioned for me to follow. Setting the mail on the porch swing, I pocketed my check and hurried down to Stan’s.
-------------------------------------------------
“What about this one?” I held up Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road on vinyl. “I love me some Elton John.”
“Whatever you want, Nugget.” I heard him from the couch. Satisfied with my decision, I put the music on, nodding to the beat of Crocodile Rock as I joined Stanley on the couch. He had just taken out one of his pre-rolled joints from his case and was lighting it up.
“So…”
“So?”
“What’s up with you and Sydney Novak?” I cheekily grinned, my friend puffing on the smoke as he removed the joint from his mouth. “You wanted to… walk with her?”
“I wanted to hang out with her. We’ve never hung out before. I just thought she’d want more friends.”
“Uh-huh…” I raised a brow, taking the joint when it was offered to me. As I inhaled the smoke, Stan waved me off.
“Whatever. So… what’s been going on with you? It’s been about three weeks since you got back and you haven’t spoken a word about where you disappeared to.”
I quickly handed the joint back as I exhaled, the smoke clouding my vision. “Yeah, I don’t really wanna talk about that…”
“Oh.” Stan cleared his throat.
“Let’s just say it was… very depressing.”
“Well, what about your dad? How’s he been?”
“He’s good, I think. Working in Georgia still. Oh!” I lifted my hip a bit to retrieve the check from my back pocket. “Look at this fucking shit, Stan! My dad sends me a two hundred dollar check every two weeks. But look what I got this time.” Stan leaned over, squinting his eyes as if he weren’t seeing right.
“Four hundred?!”
“Four hundred!”
“Jesus, (Y/N), what does he do?!”
“In all honesty, Stan, I have no fucking idea. He doesn’t like talking about it.”
“Well, that’s not suspicious at all.” Stan mumbled, silencing himself by placing the joint between his lips. It didn’t take too long for our highs to kick in. When they did, we were draped over one another, lazily drawing shapes in the air. I reached over and tickled Stan’s foot, which was just beside my head. He quietly giggled and retracted his foot from me. I laughed loudly and dropped my arm.
“Stan?”
“Yeah?”
“This is where we peak, huh? This is, like, as good as it gets,” I watched as he lifted his head, attempting to make eye contact with me. “Like, we’re not gonna have shit going for us besides a lousy paycheck we slave for. And we’re gonna settle for someone who makes us all feel a little less lonely… or we just end up alone and blame everyone else for it. And then… In, like, ten years we’re gonna go to our high school reunion and then we’re gonna find out that… We all were pieces of shit at the age of seventeen and that’s as good as we got. It’s as good as we’ll ever get,” I pointed to him. “At least, that’s what you told me.”
“Nugget… you talk too much,” He flopped back onto the ground. “But yeah, you’re right. But, like… not you.”
“Not me?”
“No, you’re gonna… move away again. But for good. You’re gonna become the best… damn actress of our time and you’re gonna walk on red carpets and go on talk shows and go ‘Yeah, my best friend Stanley Barber was the best thing that’s ever happened to me’, and then-”
“That’s not how I talk!” I burst out laughing, which triggered his own laughter. We spent the next few moments rolling on the floor, trying to catch our breaths in the midst of our cackling. Even in my haze, I thought to myself, If this is where I peak, I’m the most successful of them all to peak with Stan. How could no one have wanted to hang out with him? He was the only thing that kept me sane most days with his carefree philosophy on life. There was never a dull moment with him. Never a single second of doubt in his ability to make me smile, to make me feel good about myself. And maybe it was selfish to depend on him that much, but I hadn’t even realized I’d been doing it.
When our highs almost completely wore off, I wished Stan a goodbye and headed back home. Entering the house, Jacob was just about to exit. “Oh, hey, Bug-” He stopped and sniffed. “You smell like weed.”
“You’ll live.” I smiled and walked inside. In the kitchen, Aunt Pam was making dinner while dancing to the music on the radio. Upon my arrival, she clapped and went to hug me.
“(Y/N), how was your-” She stepped back and sniffed. “Ugh, you smell like weed…”
“Sorry.”
“I honestly don’t care. But I wanted to tell you that you should call your dad. It’s been a couple of weeks with no call. Remember he said he’d check on you every other day?”
“I remember. I’ll call him right now.” Heading upstairs to my room, I pulled out my cell phone. I accessed my contacts before pressing on my dad’s, holding the phone up to my ear. When the call was answered, there was no greeting. Just faint breathing from the other end. “Uh… Dad-”
“Hey, sweetheart,” He rushed out, sounding out of breath. “What- What did you call for?”
“What did I… Dad, you said you’d call me three times a week. It’s been two weeks with no call.”
“You’re right, you’re right, doll.” He sighed. I frowned in disgust. He never called me ‘doll’. “How’s school going? Straight A’s?”
“Um… not really,” I mumbled as I entered my bedroom, setting my backpack on the ground before flopping on my bed, sighing contently. “A couple of B’s, but I’m trying. Uh, I got the check.”
“Yeah, yeah, your allowance.” He huffed.
“Uh-huh… but you gave me twice as much.”
“Yeah, for homecoming. Pam said it was next week.”
“Oh, yeah…,” I rolled onto my back. “Almost forgot.”
“Yeah, so just… buy yourself something pretty- Listen, sweetheart, I’ve gotta go, but I promise to call you in two days.”
“Okay, Dad. Love you-” I was cut off when he abruptly hung up the phone. Sighing, I let my arm flop down beside my head. If I had to be completely honest, that was normal behavior from my dad lately. Sure, I mentioned he wasn’t present in his mind, but this was different. He was clearly occupied. Very occupied. I brushed it off as him being hard at work, but…
Something told me there was more going on with my Dad. And it scared me.
dec 20
wow! another semester of college done. everything goes by too fast yet so slowly all at once. #pandemiclife. but fr, everyone better be doing their part in being safe and healthy!! nothing will get better if we don’t all work together! also, it’s 2021, but it’s feeling a lot like the start of 2020 again. plz for how long will this go on.....
also, spoiler warning. they’re everywhere. nothing too major this time around, but they’re still there.
***
6 of crows, leigh bardugo — a good book. very good plot, great characters. i actually picked up this book i think about a year ago? before i even knew there was so much hype around it. but i couldn’t get past the first 50 pages cuz it just did not grab me. but then my fave girl @/withcindy on youtube hyped it up so much that i just had to give it another chance. and i’m glad i did. probs my fave aspect of this book was the setting and the vibes that came with it. in a place like ketterdam, it seems like basically anything is possible. it’s all very dark and messy but within that there’s a certain order to things that no one can upend. also, i freaking love love looove heist stories (has anyone read ally carter’s heist society books? top tier) and this definitely hit that right on the dot. also, kaz and inej are soooooo angsty it was a delight to read.
one thing that was a little off-putting though was the constant flashbacks. which i understand was necessary because we needed to somehow be introduced to our characters who came to be where they are specifically because of their past, but there was a liiiiiittle too much. but not enough for me to not thoroughly enjoy this book, which i definitely did. i enjoyed everyone’s varying personalities (jesper’s so funny), especially how kaz repeatedly shows us that he is not a nice guy. he’ll do what’s necessary to get the job done and be totally unapologetic about it. king shit.
a 8/10.
a curse so dark and lonely, brigid kemmerer — another book i read because of @/withcindy. she gave it average reviews, so i didn’t expect much from it. and good thing i didn’t, because i agree; it’s just an average story.
grey was my favorite character from the get-go. a smexy bodyguard who also loves kids and has unwavering loyalty??????? sign me tf up. i was also way more invested in his and harper’s chemistry than i should have been because i knew they weren’t even going to end up together. but i 100% think that if they’d spent more time together, she would’ve left rhen for him. and it would’ve been a lot more interesting that way. oh well.
i found it refreshing that she guessed the curse right from the beginning. it reduced all the annoying miscommunication that would’ve come from it. appreciate it. i also liked that the story focused on more than just the romance, bringing in the country and political stuff as well. but on the other hand it made the story kinda long when i just wanted to get it over with.
the best chapters were the one in the monster’s pov cuz they were the shortest. jk. lol
will i be reading the rest of the series? absolutely not. moving on-
a 6/10.
the remains of the day, kazuo ishiguro — ugh guys kazuo ishiguro ALWAYS. always. hits you in place you didn’t even KNOW could be hit and makes you question your entire moral compass. an entire genius that man is. he didn’t win a nobel prize for no reason, that’s for sure. read this, and also read never let me go. that one really makes you think.
the best written part-but i guess basically the entirety of this book?-was the utter unreliability of the narrator. his way of talking is hard to describe, but it’s partly him being unsure of what he’s saying and also wanting to sound more respectable than he really is, mixed with a kind of forced aloofness (the most heart-wrenching part). there are a lot of things he says that forces him-and us in turn-to realize that things weren’t as straightforward as we thought they were. it’s a shame his ideals kept him from realizing these only much after the fact. i felt bad for him, honestly. but aren’t we kind of all like that? living day-to-day the way we think we should, even if it might not be the right thing for us to do. then again, what defines “right”? lol now i’m getting way out of my depth. lots to think about.
me being a total sucker for anything romance, i was so distraught over his and miss kenton’s almost-but-not-quite relationship. like come on ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠㅜㅜㅠㅠ oh well. things happen in ways that we can’t always quite control.
i didn’t give it a full score because the beginning was a little hard to get into, but i guess that’s kind of the point. it’s so unassuming that you don’t think there’s much to expect, and then you get hit in the face with nazi stuff lol.
ah, to be more aware of the impact our decisions will make on our lives. but to always know that life goes on (stream be) and that it’s never too late to make your future.
a 9/10.
***
maybe you should talk to someone, lori gottlieb — nothing suuuuper mind blowing about this book, but it was definitely a good read. i especially liked the stories about her patients and how they grew in their sessions with her. regardless of how fucked up they were, it’s relieving to see that no one, not a single person, is beyond getting better of their own will. also, i admire them for even taking the step to go to therapy in the first place. i’m a pretty high functioning person (according to the book, someone that’s relatively self-aware and wants to work on improving themselves, or something similar) and even though i’ve been thinking about going to therapy just as a way to get things off my chest, i haven’t actually made the move yet. and though i know i probably should-everyone should, tbh-i’m not sure when i will.
i think i zoned out a little while reading somewhere around the middle lol but i finished it faster than i thought i would. the stories are very engaging. truly, you never really know what people are going through. i remind myself of this from time to time, because it always holds true. and this book was a good, solid reminder of that.
a 8/10.
fat. FAT. P H A T RANT INCOMING FOR ANYONE WHO CARES TO READ THIS NONSENSE CUZ @haldidoodh ASKED
That episode literally blasted the last of my serotonin into smithereens but TBH??? WHO AM I MAD AT I should have seen this coming this whole volume has been such a headache. I cant be bothered to type up a coherent rwde essay on everything that bothered me this episode so im just gonna copy and paste my earlier yelling here instead ;A;
Team Rwby was god awful in episodes 11-12. They’re so self-righteous, entitled, hypocritical and cocky as a team and it doesnt help that they all suck as individual characters nowadays (except for weiss but even she lost best-girl points this episode also lmao blake and yang aren’t even INDIVIDUALS anymore they’re just bumbleby). It was annoying at first but now its just infuriating how rwby thinks theyre always right with their uwu energy and think they can do whatever tf they want with ZERO CONSEQUENCES.
Basically any time there is a problem in this show they have Ruby uwu at it and its solved lol.
They kept giving ironwood shit for taking on this incredible burden SO THAT NOBODY ELSE WOULD HAVE TO and rather than offer any real solution they just kept going “but mantle” like okay?? But remnant??? Like obvi letting mantle rot is bad but HE WAS OPEN TO ANY HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS CUZ HES OBVI AT HIS WITTS END AND DOESNT LIKE THE IDEA EITHER but yeah they just proceed to be the fattest hypocrites by hiding secrets of their own after being all “no more secrets uwu” and WHEN THEY GOT EXPOSED THEY JUST WENT “>:[“ (yangs self-righteous little glare here pissed me off so much oof) especially when ironwood was laying everything out in the open to them from the start. AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SECRET WAS FKIN “OH YEAH SALEM CANT DIE LOL” They watched ironwood make every decision he did in hopes of beating Salem while KNOWING she couldnt die??? So literallY WHERE do they get off on screeching at him with their yOu doNt hAvE to Suffer In ManTle YOu doNt kNow whAt iTs liKe bs. Wtf made ruby distrust iw at the start anyway? Because he had a bunch of ships out? They kept this CRUCIAL piece of information from him because he seemed stressed out?? Like what made ruby keep the secret from him. Someone tell me.
And the fact that rwby beat the ace-ops makes no goddamned sense. The power-scaling in this show is non-existant. We finally got to meet some pro huntsmen in this universe who aren’t teachers but are actually on the job, but because we gotta move out of the way for that 👌🏽✨ Power Of Friendship✨ and ✨rwby is always right✨ they somehow managed to beat experienced huntsmen with YEARS in the field who’ve actually graduated school??? FARM BOI OSCAR WHOS *JUST* LEARNING HOW TO FIGHT MANAGED TO LAND A PUNCH ON NEO FKIN POLITAN??? Didnt neo dance circles around yang??? Yang, who punches for a living and also beat mercury and adam??? I cant yall (and the fact that he didnt even bother to sneak up on her this boi literally screamed “no!!” as he ran down a hallway and neo didnt even have time to blink??? Pls)
Ruby’s “you were the best, until you trained us :3” -for maybe 2 days before my team went dancing ruby sis shut right tf up pls my god is this line just so. UNEARNED. Training in a room for a short while does not simply grant you the years of field experience the ace ops have and whAT IS UP WITH HER TRYING TO REASON WITH HARIETT AFTER SAYING THAT COCKY LINE AND FIGHTING HER??? WHAT and also like. The entire idea of “the ops lost cuz they weren’t good friends and were bad at teamwork uwu” is just so dumb. Ur telling me this group of high ranking hunstmen who’ve most likely been working together for at least a few years didnt have teamwork down??? Learning to work together is the most BASIC concept for a team to learn!! Its like the first thing a team has to perfect!! If the ace ops are supposed to be the best of atlas you dont think the ops would have gotten something as fundemental as teamwork down?? I dont buy it. And who gives a shit if they dont hang out after work or take selfies with eachother. Being friends doesnt necessarily mean theyre great at working together. If they succeed at relying on eachother to watch their backs, to keep each other alive (in the words of hariett herself) then Id think theyd know how to protect eachother i.e WORK TOGETHER.
And for all the ✨friendship✨ and ✨going through so much with someone✨ talk rwby like to do, the show barely displays these people acting like friends. We’re constantly TOLD how great of friends this group is, but the actual CONTENT we are shown leaves a lot to be desired. Tell me the last time ruby and blake teamed up in a fight. Or weiss and blake. Or yang and weiss. What teamwork?? Yang only interacts with blake now and weiss is only ever allowed to interact with ruby. Has blake ever said nora or ren’s name out loud? Have jaune and yang ever held a conversation between just them? Team rwby just spent a GOOD DEAL of time seperated from eachother, but when they reunite their teamwork is still somehow better than the ace ops?? Honestly its easier to believe that ruby is closer with team jnpr than she is her own team. If they showed the ops messing up during rwby vs ace ops fight due to lack of communication, then it still doesnt matter. My point is that they shouldnt have lacked teamwork in the first place.
Robyn was m e h this episode “JaMes ConTinUes to UnDeresTimAte Me” *proceeds to get knocked over in .3 seconds and is then KO for the rest of the episode* also great job for starting a fight and aiming to take clovers life in a moving airship with a terrorist on board when clover was acting PEACEFULLY and qrow was WILLING TO TALK IT OUT WITH IW and potentially work on a solution, but naw robyn is big mad and shall shoot.
Qrow made zero sense this episode too. I was with him right up until he chose TYRIAN OVER CLOVER??? THE PSYCOPATH WHO CANNOT BE REASONED WITH OVER THE RATIONAL DUDE YOU KNOW IS GOOD except clover wasnt acting rational in this fight at all and ill get to that AND IS THE ONLY FRIEND YOU HAVE WHOS NOT 19????? Qrow rly looked at tyrian- a man who is literally an enemy to all of remnant and went after ur neice- and said lets get rid of this punk together u and me bro. Like screw teaming with clover to bring down the dude you ACTUALLY have a grudge with whos also a serial killer and then trying to talk it out with clover whod be willing to do things peacefully why is this show like this
and AS FOR CLOVER. where were the braincells this episode. Qrow was trying to fight tyrian-the WAY bigger threat here, but clover??? kept knocking him away from tyrian and restraining him with his hook like??? YEAH LETS HELP OUT THE DEMON SCORPION CRACKHEAD HES CLEARLY NOT THE PRIORITY ATM nvm clover deserved to die there m8
His death scene was emotional and I feel bad for Qrow but u literally sealed his death when u ganged on him with tyrian so why are you even surprised. And on the subject of fairgame, im glad it didnt happen. Qrow was in no state for romance and I was glad he finally had a friend. He just spent the last volume thinking he wasted his life away helping oz, drowning in misery, drinking til he passed out on the street and so drunk he couldnt even be of any help during the apathy situation, when up til now hes been shown to fight just fine while drunk. I don’t see this as a “bury your gays trope” because clover was never confirmed to be gay and all their scenes added up to 40 seconds of platonic friendship. These two are grown ass men, if they had the hots for eachother then im pretty sure they could openly show it and not dance around it like theyre kids. I do feel bad for mlm viewers who were hoping for some rep with fairgame/lucky charms (cuz rt only cares if ur a cute marketable lesbian) but idc for the overly entitled fans who try to force their own headcanons on the writers and go feral when they dont get what they want. You dont just get to prance around claiming whats canon and what isnt. If rep is there then great, but if it isnt, then why not look somehwere else and let the author tell the story theyre trying to tell? Shipping fairgame cuz you think its cute is absolutely fine but not when u start getting ready to casterate crwby for not catering to you. Also, rwby sucks with lgbt+ rep anyway so what were yall expecting.
The only thing that was great this episode was the chorerography. It just sucks that the animation/choreo continues to improve while the writing doesnt. Another thing that really fell off this episode was the whole “we’re friends but we have to fight” drama. It doesnt work when its only ONE SIDE SHOWING ANY DISTRESS OVER IT. Only the ace ops (marrow, clover, the vine dude) seemed to show distress over having to fight rwby (it sucks that the only 1v1 weiss has won was because marrow was going EASY on her cuz he didnt wanna fight her fr) but rwby???? They didnt give any shits. They were so quick to turn against them and aim for their heads. They were SMILING as they ran at the ace ops, while they looked conflicted. If you oppose their UwU philosophy, you’re dead to them.
I really wanna enjoy RWBY but sometimes this show (and the fndm) really tests me. Its ironic how this episode came right after last episode, which I thought was the best chapter this volume. Anyway I rate this 10/10 cuz it gave me best character ironwood and best boi marrow and I would like to give them hugs for carrying this volume on their backs. (Also tyrian and penny and winter have been great too)
New Neighbour - Maylor Week Day 2
A/N: Here we are! Sadly, my only piece for this week but I tried to make it Count. Written for the prompt ‘dancing in the kitchen’ even though that’s hardly the Focus of this. Whoops. Thanks to @iamnotbrianmay for organizing this week!
Can also be read on AO3.
+++
Roger could faintly hear his phone ring from the edge of the pasture where his bag and the rest of his stuff was. He let out a sharp whistle, alerting his herding dogs Clover and Kit who immediately starting herding the sheep closer to the barn while he jogged towards his phone. A very unflattening picture of John was on his display and he chuckled lowly before accepting the call.
   “Deaks? What’s up?”
   “Hey, sorry, I know you’re out with the sheep right now but I need to borrow your truck on Saturday.”
He frowned slightly and wiped the seat off his forehead, mentally already going through his to-do-list for the weekend. He knew John’s truck was still out of commission, waiting for replacement parts at Jim’s garage but the younger man also hadn’t worried about that because in their village, nobody really needed them anyway which is half of the reason only John and Roger had one in the first place.
   “When and what do you need it for?”
   “Somebody bought the Criston House and Miami asked me to fix the roof before the guy moves in but-”
   “-but the supplies are at the factory, I got it. Yeah, you can have it, just bring it back by Monday.”
They exchanged a little bit of small talk then but both of them were busy and they quickly wrapped it up, not wanting to keep the other one. He put his phone back into his bag, quickly grabbed the rest of his things and walked back to the barn to have on last look at the sheeps, just making sure everything was alright, before calling his dogs and making his way back to the house.
He patted Clover’s head in passing, opening the door for his girls and they immediately slipped inside, making a beeline for the kitchen, knowing there were treats waiting for them. He followed them, laughing quietly to himself. After giving them their well-deserved treats he refilled their bowls and then went to take a shower.
Roger didn’t waste much time in the shower, he really only wanted to change into his sweatpants and curl up in front of his TV with something to eat. He knew he still had left-overs from back when he had been invited for dinner at Freddie’s parents place and he was already looking forward to eating it because his mother was an amazing cook.
Kit was trailing around his legs as he was heating the curry back up, wanting his attention and probably something of the meat but he chastised her softly and sent her off to play with her toys. He filled a bowl with his food and grabbed a beer and sat down heavily on the sofa, groaning happily. Immediately, Kit was with him again, jumping on the sofa and resting her head on his legs. Clover laid down on the floor in front of them, chewing on her teddy bear, her tail wagging happily. Roger turned on the TV, catching one of the crime shows he was following half-heartedly whenever he found the time to watch them.
   “So, somebody bought the Criston House, huh?” He said to Kit, scratching behind her ear. “That’s a decision, I guess.”
The Criston House was an old house on the site next to Roger’s ranch. It had been empty for as long as Roger could remember and he hadn’t thought it would ever be sold but apparently he had been wrong. Bad for John as he was the guy people went to when things needed fixing but good for someone, Roger assumed.
The house was beautiful for a house that had been abandoned for over twenty years. Nice grey brickwork with ivy growing on it and a beautiful oak tree in the backyard and the river was running by closely. He had never been inside but from the outside, it looked like a nice house to live in. Except maybe for the roof which got a bit damaged over the years but John didn’t sound too worried about fixing it so it couldn’t be too bad.
   “Looks like we’re getting a neighbour, girls.”
+++
A perk of having your friend work next to your house was definitely having lunch together. Most of the time, Roger didn’t have the time to sit down for a lunch but John had no issue with walking beside him, eating whatever lunch he had brought and holding Roger’s food when needed.
It was nice because it meant Roger had someone else then his dogs to talk to and work had kept both of them busy so they couldn’t hang out as much as they had wanted to. Neither of them was much of a gossip but then again, it was a small village and there wasn’t really much happening and so the most interesting thing was whoever didn’t make it to church on time. Or, in their case, the fact that Paul Prenter had let his car fix by a mechanic from a different town instead of going to Jim’s garage which was incredible stupid because Jim was the best mechanic Roger had ever seen and even if he couldn’t stand him, he’d get his car fixed by him.
   “He’s being ridiculous.” John said, shaking his head.
   “Yeah, but what’s new? I never really liked him anyway.”
John hummed in agreement, taking a bite out of his sandwich. Roger pulled his hair band out of his hair to gather them into a new ponytail since too many strands had escaped over time and had fallen into his face. John passed him a bottle of water and he drank almost half of it before giving it back. He nodded towards the Criston House.
   “Have you met the guy who bought it yet?”
   “Yep, met him a few days ago. Nice guy, tall, wild hair. Probably the type who gets on my nerve after a while but very polite.”
John shrugged, absently flipping the bottle in his hand a couple of times then put it back into his bag and shrugged again, this time pulling an unimpressed face. Roger snorted and gently knocked their shoulders together.
   “But I guess we’ll see how he is soon enough. He wants to move in by, uh, end of August if I remember correctly.”
   “Let me know if you remember the date. I don’t think Miami will let me live it down if I am late for a welcoming present again.”
He laughed and Roger slapped him playfully, grumbling under his breath.
   “Well, you forgot the present for Freddie. And you literally annoyed us for months because you were so excited for him to move in. I don’t think Jim was so excited and they are married. And then you forgot the present.”
Roger threw his arms up and groaned in mock-frustration but John wrapped his arm around him, pulling him close and next thing he knew they were play wrestling and falling back into the grass, pushing and pulling at each other while yelling, cursing and laughing. John’s elbow digged harshly into his side and he let out a strangled breath before he managed to turn them around, effectively straddling his friend. Both of them were breathing hard but giggling, trying to outdo the other.
   “Will you two ever grow up?” An old voice asked.
They quickly sat up- Roger flicking a clover out of John’s hair who stuck his tongue out at him- to see Mrs. Thompson, their former school teacher, standing just behind the fence, two big bags in her hands.
   “I’m afraid not, Mrs .Thompson.” Roger chuckled.
She shook her head at them and they scrambled to their feet quickly, stuck somewhere between thinking this situation was embarrassing and being incredible amused by the whole thing.
   “Do you need help with those bags, Mrs. Thompson?”
   “At least your manners never were an issue.”
They quickly jumped over the fence which made Mrs. Thompson sigh quietly and shook her head again but she did let them take the bags from her, setting the way to her house not far from Roger’s.
+++
Roger carefully wrapped the cheese into wax paper, sealing it with a sticker and placed it into the basket to the jam and sausages and quickly grabbed the bottle of wine he had bought for this, also adding it to the other things.
He brushed his hair out of his face. He really needed a haircut.
The basket was looking really nice and he wiped his hands on his shirt before grimacing and deciding he needed to change before he could go over to the new neighbor. He washed his hands and quickly changed into something he hadn’t been wearing out for taking care of the sheep. Only then he grabbed the basket and walked over to the house.
John had done a good job with the roof, not that Roger was an expert in these kind of things but it looked better than it did before. It had also been John who reminded him about the new guy moving in. Usually, he would have noticed things because a big moving truck was kind of a dead giveaway but Roger had been out of town yesterday and he was thankful for John because he would have forgotten it again.
Sometimes, he missed the big city. Nobody really expected you to know everyone or give every new neighbour something for moving in and nobody gossiped about you just because someone came late for church or whatever town festival was happening. On the other hand, he loved his hometown and he did move back here after all. He really couldn’t imagine himself in a different job besides being a sheep owner.
It took only a moment for his neighbour to get the door and Roger’s kind of fake, polite smile grew into something much more sincere.
He was pretty. Long, dark curly were framing his face and he had gentle, dark eyes. His sweater was too short, leaving his wrist and part of his lower arm bare and there was just a sliver of skin between his pants and the sweater but Roger quickly looked up again, not wanting to be caught staring.
   “Hello, I’m Roger and I live next door. I, ah, just wanted to drop off a welcoming gift.”
The man smiled softly and took the basket from him, looking it over quickly.
   “This is lovely but, um, I’m actually vegetarian.”
   “Oh, sorry, I just take the sausages back then.”
They shared an awkward smile during the exchange and Roger cursed himself inwardly for making this meeting weird already.
   “Oh, I’m Brian, by the way. Do you want to come in for a cup of tea?”
   “I’d love to.”
The house was nice. Roger had never seen it from the inside before but he assumed a house that had been empty for twenty years couldn’t look that great but Brian had done a nice job with the interior. Not that he had any real idea about what good interior design looked like since his house was basically a mismatched collection on old furniture still from his grandparents and the ikea furniture he had brought with him when he moved back after college. Brian’s furniture seemed to fit together most of the time, though, and everything was neat and tidy.
   “You have a beautiful house.”
   “Thank you.”
The kitchen had a door to the backyard and Roger could see a couple of his sheep grazing close to the fence and watched them while Brian made the tea.
   “Do the sheep belong to you?” Brian asked.
He pulled two mugs out of a cabinet, looking to him for a moment before putting the kettle on the oven.
   “Yeah, I sell their wool, milk and meat to others in the village. The cheese is made from milk of my sheep and so were the sausages but that’s not that important.”
   “I only have jasmine tea and mint tea unpacked so far so, uh, I hope that’s fine.”
Roger nodded and smiled at him. Brian honestly didn’t look like the type of guy who would like to move into a village in the middle of nowhere. The only people who move out here were couples with young children because ground was cheaper here but except that, the people who lived here were the same families that had lived here since what seemed like forever. Some people, like Roger, left for a while to go to college and get a degree and some stay and don’t come back but some do.
Brian poured some water into the mugs and put both of them on the table, followed by the tea bags and some sugar and milk. Roger took a mint tea bag and added two sugars to it.
   “So, what brings you here?” He asked.
   “Ah, I’m a writer but I’m kind of stuck so I decided maybe a change of scenery would help.” Brian shrugged, then chuckled softly. “But I guess I’ll see that with time.”
Roger made an interested sound, his eyebrows lifting as he gestured for him to continue. Brian blushed. He laughed, sounding quite embarrassed.
   “It’s nothing really. I wrote two books before and they did pretty well all things considering but the next one just doesn’t want to come to me as it seems.” He shrugged again and waved his hand through the air. “I just want to bring it to a good end, that’s all.”
He smiled, looking almost shy and Roger decided to prod a little bit because not only did it actually interest him- he didn’t always had the time to get into a book but he used his limited free times to find some good reads- but Brian seemed embarrassed talking about it. It was kind of sad, in a way, as he was obviously passionate about his writing and when Roger was passionate about something, he would talk about it with everybody, given the chance.
Brian was hesitant at first, quietly telling him about his Science Fiction novels but quickly realized that Roger really wanted to hear about it and his voice grew more sure and eventually, he was basically rambling, gesturing animatedly.
   “That sounds really cool.” Roger said, drinking the rest of his tea. “But I’m afraid I have to go back to work now.”
   “Thank you for stopping by. And thank you for the presents!”
+++
The next time Roger saw Brian was in his backyard and he waved at him from the distance, a grin appearing on his face when Brian waved back. He jogged over to where the fence separated his backyard from his pasture.
   “Hey! How have you been doing? Settled in nicely?”
Brian smiled and nodded. Roger spotted a watering can in his hand.
   “Hello, Roger. How are you doing?”
Roger jumped up the fence, sitting down on top of it, legs dangling above the ground as he grabbed the wood to steady himself. Kit and Clover trotted over to see what he was doing.
“Oh, good, busy with work, you know.”
He wiped his forehead, his shirt clinging to his body from the sweat and nodded at the watering can.
   “Planting something?”
   “Oh, no, I don’t think I could.” Brian laughed. “It’s just pretty hot and I figured the bushes might need some water.”
Roger took him in, with his half-unbuttoned shirt, leaving his collarbone exposed, that was haphazardly tucked into his jeans and his curls were messy, looking as if he had been running his hand through it several times. He looked tired, too, dark shadows beneath his eyes.
   “If you want to know how to plant things, you should talk to Jim. He owns the garage but also has a great garden. It’s relaxing, he says.”
Brian crouched down and reached through the fence to pet Clover’s head who yipped happily.
   “I don’t really think I will. What’s their names?”
   “That’s Clover and this is Kit.”
He watched him scratch both dogs’ chins for a while, occasionally glancing back to his sheep. Brian cooed at the dogs for a moment longer, then he straightened up again. Roger smiled at him.
+++
Brian was out in his backyard alot and Roger often found himself caught up in conversation with him, idly chatting over anything as he watched over his sheep. Sometimes, they would talk about Brian’s books or Roger’s work but they quickly found other things to talk about like music and animals among other things.
Having a neighbour was nice, Roger realized. And Brian was nice, Roger might have developed a tiny crush on the man but nobody could really blame him because he was handsome and intelligent and didn’t know how to button shirts. It was distracting.
He started to look forward to seeing Brian, seeking excuses to keep talking with him even if it meant he had to miss his crime shows.
+++
Roger watched how Brian was cutting apples and took out a big bite out of one of the leftover apples as he sat on top of the kitchen counter. Brian was cutting them with practiced precision, his sleeves rolled up and Roger cocked his head to the side, humming softly.
His hair was pulled back into a ponytail so it wouldn’t hang into his face as he made his pie.
“Okay, help me out for a second: What even is a fall festival?” He asked.
Roger chuckled and wiped some juice off his chin.
   “It’s just good food, music and lots of dancing. It’s fun and just the people hanging out.”
   “I’m going to have to skip the dancing, I guess, but the rest sounds like fun.”
He frowned slightly before putting his apple to the side and jumping off the counter, clapping his hands.
   “Come ‘ere. Dancing is easy. I can show you.”
Brian stopped cutting for a moment and laughed, shaking his head. Roger just clapped again, wiggling his fingers at him.
   “Come on, Bri! It’s fun!”
He shot him a long look, then sighed, placed the knife carefully to the side and wiped his hands on a towel. Roger’s grin grew and he quickly grabbing him before he could change his mind again, pulling him close. He put one of his hands on his hip and placed his own on Brian’s shoulder. Brian’s hands were surprisingly rough.
   “I guess you’ll be the one guiding so you put your hands like this.”
He started humming a song he knew would be played at the festival and just moved them along the steps of the dance. Brian was clumsy at first, stumbling over his own feet and stepping on his toes a couple of times but soon he caught up to it and they were dancing somewhat decently.
   “There we go! You can dance!”
   “Barely, I can barely dance.”
Roger laughed, looking up at him. He was close enough now to smell him which should be way weirder than it was and he tried not to sniff him too obviously. It was a nice smell, clean and fresh but nothing Roger could clearly identify.
At some point, they had stopped dancing, more swaying back and forth in place. Only then, Roger noticed that they were actually really close to each other and that Brian’s hand had slipped from on his hip to the small of his back. His heart jumped in his chest and a blush rose on his cheeks. Hoping Brian wouldn’t notice it, he lowered his head a little bit, his forehead almost touching his shoulder.
He took a deep breath, trying not to immediately expose himself. Brian cleared his throat.
   “Is there anything else than dancing?”
They were still swaying in place, the apples forgotten on the counter. Roger looked up quickly, shooting Brian a short smile.
   “Uh, not really. It’s mostly about the food, the music and the dancing.”
Brian hummed softly, nodding to himself.
   “I like that, I think. This kind of dancing, at least.”
   “What? What kind of dancing?”
Brian smiled at him, his hand squeezing his. Roger swallowed hard at the look on his face. He couldn’t quite discern it but it looked somewhat fond.
   “Slow dancing. It’s nice.”
There was a short, heavy silence as they were just looking at each other and then he chuckled, licked his lips and leaned down, pressing a short, chaste kiss to Roger’s lips. Roger blinked, taken by surprise and they stopped swaying, just standing close to each other as they kept looking at each other.
   “Was that okay?” Brian asked quietly.
   “Yes, yes it was. Completely okay.”
Another moment of silence followed, then they broke into giggles, leaning into each other. Roger hid his face in Brian’s chest, the taller man’s hand on his back gently pulling him closer and he wrapped his arms around him, his face red from laughter.
   “That was awful!” He laughed.
   “Am I that bad of a kisser?”
Roger shook his head and pushed back far enough so he could lean up and kiss him again. It was a longer kiss this time, both of them moving with purpose this time but it was still chaste, just shy lips moving against each other. Brian’s hand slid up his back, cupping his neck.
They pulled away from slowly, smiling dopily at each other.
   “Better?”
Roger nodded, stealing another quick kiss before taking a full step back. He laced their fingers together and squeezed them.
   “Uh, let’s finish your pie? And then maybe practice some more dancing?”
Brian laughed, throwing a quick look over his shoulder where the apples were and nodded.
   “Yeah, good idea.”
Roger sat back down on the counter and Brian went back to cutting the rest of the apples but they kept stealing glances at each other, unable to stop smiling.
   “We could, uh, go to the festival together?” Roger asked.
   “I’d love that.”
As usual if you’d like to be added to the taglist send me a message or an ask! Any feedback/constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. :)
P.S. - You’ll also notice this story now has a chapter count! We’re 10 away from the end people.
Clyde knew he had to move on the “Save Mart” phase of their plan or he’d never be able to work up the nerve. Last night was almost too perfect. He fell asleep with you in his arms and the next morning you were still there. Smiling at him as you peppered his face with good morning kisses. Clyde Logan wasn’t the kind of man who backed down from a commitment but the idea of running away with you was just getting too damn tempting. After you left he had to give himself a thirty-minute pep talk on how this was for his family and the right thing to do.
That didn’t stop him from feeling bad for his poor car though. The old Pontiac Grand Prix was a hand-me-down from his mother. The day he turned 16 she entrusted the vehicle to him because she knew he’d take care of it. Boy, did he have a feeling that his momma would kill him if she knew what he was about to do…
He ran a hand through his long black hair and then over the faded leather that covered the steering wheel.
“Cauliflower,” he muttered as he turned up the volume on the radio.
The adrenaline started coursing through his veins, making his muscles tense. He gripped the steering wheel tighter still hesitant to press down on the accelerator.
“Cauliflower, cauliflower, cauliflower, cauliflower,” Clyde kept repeating the term over and over again. As if saying it would finally let him overcome his instincts, which were telling him to hightail it out of the parking lot. If he left right now he could still make it in time before his shift was supposed to start.
With one last “cauliflower” Clyde hit the gas pedal hard and sent his classic car flying through the window of Boone County’s local travel mart. The flimsy support beams were no match for his Grand Prix’s large metal frame, the car took out at least three on its way in. It also shattered a couple of windows, sending tiny shards of glass flying in every direction. Clyde finally slammed on the brakes when his car hit the chip aisle. Support posts, windows, and one chip standee… He tried to make a mental note of the damage before climbing out of the car.
The middle Logan had to remind himself his anxiety wasn’t over this part as much as it was the shit storm that was about to ensue. By shit storm he was referring about the court things and prison sentence headed his direction. He slowly climbed out of the driver side door and grabbed the nearest bag of chips. Clyde tried to avoid eye contact with the cashier as he set the bag down on the counter and fished out his wallet.
He earned a look of pure confusion from the young girl behind the register. She set down her cell phone, blinked a few times as if to question his sanity, and then decided to speak.
“…I think I need to go call my boss,” she murmured, picking up the corded phone from its stand on the wall.
Much to his surprise things played out almost exactly like Jimmy said they would. The cops didn’t arrest him at the “Save Mart” they let Millie drive him home. Heck, they didn’t even impound his car. They just took pictures of it and then Jimmy had his friend tow it to their sister’s house. The whole thing seemed a little lackluster to Clyde. He was trading away at least three months of his life so he expected what the crime scene shows promised him. He wanted sirens, yellow tape, and flashing lights… But all he got was a summons and a letter from his public defender in the mail.
Which meant for the past two weeks the middle Logan had been avoiding you like the plague. Between help from Jimmy and his shifts at Ducktape he’d done a pretty good job of it. The one time you stopped by the bar things had been so crazy you didn’t really have a chance to focus on his poker face. Besides it looked like Max was keeping you busy with last minute race preparations.
Clyde let out a sigh as he tried to settle into a more comfortable spot on the couch. It would have been nice to spend his last night as a free man with you. Instead, it was just him, Mellie, a six pack of beer, and a box of pizza.
“Are ya nervous about tomorrow?” Mellie asked.
“No,” he murmured, shifting again. He ran a hand through his thick black locks.
“Are ya gunna tell (y/n)?”
“No.”
“Did ya’ll stop seeing each other?” his sister pressed.
“No Mellie. Considerin’ how she’s a lawyer and all now’s probably not the best time for her to be poking around is it?” In reality, Clyde knew that if he was in trouble you’d want to help. If you helped… Well he couldn’t risk not ending up in jail. The whole plan would’ve fallen to pieces and he couldn’t have that on his conscious.
“I can’t tell her till it’s all over,” he murmured with an even softer tone this time.
Mellie Logan shook her head and let out a good long sigh. Sometimes she wished the sense had ben divvied up more equally in her family. Jimmy was dead set on being the village idiot more often than not and poor Clyde was like a modern-day flagellant. The man needed to make selfish decisions more often.
“Clyde… I know we’re family and all but it’s okay to want other people… All I’m sayin’ is that I’d understand if you wanted her around…”
“She can’t know any of what’s going on. Why in tarnation would I bring her into this?” he decided. He shot his sister a soft glare as a warning, letting her know that he was done with the whole (y/n) discussion.
The next morning Clyde pulled himself out of bed with a groan. His eyes tracked over to the teddy bear sitting on his dresser. Since none of the Logans seemed to be big on technology you’d decided to leave Moose with Clyde. You wanted him to have some kind of reminder of you even if it was a small one. This morning it seemed like that bear was staring him down; everything in his life was conspiring to get him to call you.
“Don’t you look at me like that!” Clyde grumbled, as he reached over and knocked the bear on its back.
He hobbled off to the bathroom to get ready for the day. The way he looked at it he only had a few hours of freedom left and wanted to at least get in a good shower and a shave. His mother raised him to dress for the occasion and well…court seemed like an occasion. In the end, he threw on a pair of black dress pants as well as a blue button down.
The drive to court was silent; Clyde sat there teetering somewhere between angry and anxious. He was glad his lawyer didn’t ask him to say much… He doubted that he’d be capable of too many answers right now. It seemed like his lawyer didn’t have too much to say either; which was a little troubling. He didn’t want to spent another six months of his life in prison. The bartender cast his brother a burning glare.
“Mr. Logan, do you know why we’re here today?”
“Yes, sir,” Clyde responded, making sure to switch his attention back to the gentlemen in black robes.
“Even though you claim this was an accident saying that your foot slipped, these are some very serious charges. You’re facing one count of Vehicular Mischief, one count of Reckless Endangerment, and Destruction of Private Property,” he announced.
This time Clyde looked to Mellie. Jimmy was the one who got him trouble, Mellie was always there for support. Yet, she had her eyes trained towards the front of the room. Maybe she was still annoyed at him for last night? But they hadn’t really fought that bad… Well at least that’s what he thought.
“It’s unfortunate that in a county as small as ours that sealed records don’t function the way they should. Taking into account the last time I saw you you were a juvenile and the great sacrifices you’ve made for this country, I’m going to be as lenient as the law allows. I’m sentencing you to 90 days to be served at Monroe County Correctional Facility,” the judge decreed, “Normally, I’d just suspend your license but it seems like yours was revoked over two years ago, Clyde. Did you fail to report for your DDT, young man?”
“That’s correct your honor, but my client had just gotten back from active duty,” his lawyer piped up. Finally deciding to say something. He wasn’t sure if the Logan curse was at work, if this man was bad at his job, or if both things were acting in tandem here.
“I wasn’t speaking to you, counselor,” the judge snapped. Turning a harsh gaze to the man standing next to Clyde. Then he refocused on the defendant, “Are your affairs in order?”
“Yes, your honor,” he replied in a monotone voice.
“When you get out get some insurance and take your damn DDT. I don’t want to see you in here again. Do you understand?” The youngest Logan brother simply nodded in reply.
“Well then bailiff, take this man into custody immediately… Clyde, I want you to know I take no pleasure in doing this,” the judge sighed, slamming his gavel down on its sound block.
Now both of his siblings’ eyes were on him. It was easy to tell that his sister was some sort of scared for him. Sad part was, he figured that Monroe County couldn’t throw anything at him that Iraq hadn’t. They didn’t have the chance to exchange any words before the court’s officer moseyed over to Clyde with a perplexed look on his face. Cuffs in hand he looked from Clyde’s prosthetic to his real arm, back to the cuffs, and then back to his partner. The man groaned internally while he watched the two mull over how to handle him. Good lord.
“You won’t be any trouble, will ya?” the bailiff inquired raising an eyebrow.
“No sir,” he replied, holding his arms out in front of him. They then continued to grab his arms, leading him back towards the holding area. It took until that moment for Clyde to process the finality of this situation. He started to go pale as he realized how stupid he’d been.
For a man that was afraid of being alone he was certainly determined to maintain his lone wolf status.
“Mellie! Just let her know where I am,” he called, craning his neck to see if she heard him. His sister nodded in response.
“Now why didn’t he ask me to call her?” Jim asked turning to his sister. She just grunted.
“Why don’t you worry about the rules and I’ll worry about Clyde?” she replied.
“Well fine then,” Jim muttered, reaching up to scratch the top of his head.
“You know, if this doesn’t work out for him… I’m never gunna forgive ya, even if he does,” Mell stated, giving her oldest brother a serious look.
I been left so many times tho I’m just like ghee 😂 I cld cry. Historically nobody has stayed consistent I my life at loving me. So I just pray and thank God that prayers are heard and are being fulfilled. So that’s where I miss shorty but ghee like 👍🏾 good job you moved on like I don’t even have words for that. Defly feel like shorty lied 🤥 but all we can give each other is information I would’ve truly loved the truth but that just goes to show you don’t know me. And I still wld learn things about you. And to be honest I want to be with somebody who believes in me. I don’t have to earn love like a damn squid game challenge. I can’t be in a relationship trying prove the reasons why you in this bitch wimme. Bit fr trynna prove em m. Somethings you gotta know. Seeing you with shorty make me wish I payed attention to how you moved when you was with me. I know you’re fine. It prolly just really hurts my feelings and ego to see you happy without me. I could make a song, book, painting, allat about it. Bc you know what I really was loved you and I’m a real human being. I never lied to you omg 😳 that was a first step for me 😅. I started telling the truth in my last relationship but I started this relationship telling the truth. And to be honest ig you don’t get cookies for doing what’s right. Telling you I love you so naturally because it’s natural it’s love with fight it. Also when it’s time to move on why fight it? It’s time either way. Still wanting the answer to this question, every time, if didn’t I let go would you stay ? Would it still be time the - somebody who believes in me, doesn’t call be knock me down just because they’re scared of showing care and looking goofy by feeling different than how they expected. I’m tired of fabricating stories for who to understanding. Simply put it, it’s complicated, I want to vent I want to move in, I want you but God fr I did this longing with my girlfriend before and this I think I want her cus she’s better than my last , cus baby I chose you, cus how the hell did we meet if not the world conspiring to get us to link up, so quick you are a breath of fresh air best described, I love you . Words of affirmation are by love language and you don’t be saying nun fr but the gag is lemme ask you and you lowkey and open book. Like you just don’t be thinking for real. Idk if willing to get hurt , I don’t see the purpose or even the opportunity like lol I don’t care about to hoes but if you posting this shorty on your story idc what nobody says lol that’s your main focus go be with her 🧘🏾‍♀️🧘🏾. And one thing I don’t do is play second string. Either you got no mains , I’m the main, or I’m falling back. I’m ready to go bing bong in your mouth, I want to have some passionate emotion filled care filled sex have you shook ass great sex like that there is good for me. Trynna naturally listen to my Labido. Not to mention if I was gonna bing bong ding dong ditch I’d prefer it be with you. Wants vs Needs , make a decision and follow through with your both hands and healthy mind and full heart . Because thinking your still making one , messing with the momentum of the same universal winds you knew were destiny that brought you two to meet. I broke up with you but you not being available or single or showing interest in me hurts. Especially since I’m the pressure you cld apply. Like damn is this something people work on. Cus this girl get my tamales on fire 🔥 with one look & it’s not fair to me.
Accidental Confessions
Imagine accidentally admitting you were in love with your best friend
Angst with Fluff not my gif
Sebastian had been your best friend since college and you’d been room mates since graduation. You had both just clicked right away and an amazing friendship had begun. You were inseperable even when you had dated you both wanted to rush home and tell eachother all about it. He was amazing simple as that by far the best man you knew, kind caring funny and devilishly handsome but he was just your friend, that you’d figured out after your 10 year friendship, just friends. It killed you on the inside you were so in love with him it hurt, but you’d never tell him. You’d never risk losing him if he didn’t feel the same so you we’re just his friend. It was better than nothing at all you figured. But the more dates you went on the more you realised he was the one you wanted to be with and you’d decided to tell him when he’d come back from his vacation. He had a girlfriend but he made it sound like it was nothing serious and as wrong as you knew it was you just had to tell him how you felt you couldn’t keep it bottled up anymore it was destroying you. Decision made, you’d tell him tonight when he came home.
It was 10pm and Sebastian was due home any moniute, you’d had a few glasses of wine to calm your nerves while you waited for him to come home and when you heard the front door open your heart skipped a beat
“Y/N I’m home, where are you?” he shouted as he dropped his bag in the hallway
“Kitchen” you shouted back, taking a few deep breaths steadying yourself before he peeked his head round the door
“Hey i missed you bud, I’m so happy to be home” he said as he pulled you in for one of his bear hugs you loved so much
“missed you too, how was your vacation? You want a beer?”
“Amazing and yes i’d love one, I have huge news Y/N you might wanna take a seat” he told you pulling out a stool from the breakfast bar. You couldn’t help but notice how excitable he was acting. You shot him a questioning look as you took the seat
“Okay, what is it Seb whats got you so jumpy” you aksed
“ right here goes, well the thing is, um…”
“spit it out” you almost shouted growing impatient at his stuttering
“I PROPOSED…..She said yes”
He propsed, what? you could almost feel your world come tumbling down around you. Why would he propose they’re not that serious are they. The tears began to prick in your eyes, blinking a few times to hide them you shook your head
“Oh my god Seb, C-congratulations” you tried to hide the utter devastation in your voice “t-thats fan-fantastic”
“really Y/N you don’t sound too happy about it?” he quizzed studying your obviously shocked and slightly broken expression
“of course I’m happy for you you dork, it’s just unexpected i didn’t know you were marriage serious about this girl, I’m just shocked is all.” you lied “ excuse me I’m a little tired I’m gonna head up to bed its, its good to have you home” it was getting alot harder to hold back the tears threatening to spill out
“Y/N I’ve just got home and you’re leaving me already?” he asked clearly a little upset
“I’m not the one leaving” you muttered as you turned away from him and walked out of the kitchen
He shouted after you asking what you’d said but you waved him off and ran for the stairs holding on to the handrail like it was only thing stopping you from sinking into a sobbing puddle on the floor. You made it to your bedroom slammed your door shut and leaned against letting the tears flow, heart wrenching sobs shaking your entire body, struggling to catch your breath clutching your chest scared that if you let go your heart would literally shatter.
Seb stood leaning against the island confused as all hell about what had just happened, he’d told you the biggest news ever and you practically ran away from him he couldn’t understand why. After about 20 minutes of trying to figure it out for himself he decided he couldnt and you’d just have to answer his questions for him. As he reached for the handle of your bedroom door he paused he could hear your hushed voice coming from inside it was clear you’d been crying from the sniffles he kept hearing between sentences he figured you were on the phone. He wanted to turn around and wait for you to finish but his feet wouldn’t let him leave. He knew he shouldn’t eavesdrop but he wanted answers maybe he’d get some here.
“Mom he asked her to marry him he’s fucking engaged” you sobbed down the phone “what am i going to do now, i’m gonna lose him mom, i can’t lose him”
He couldn’t hear what your mom was saying back to you and he wondered why you were so upset and why on earth you’d think you’d lose him you were his best friend he wasn’t going anywhere. Not really. He kept listening
“but i will mom, I’ll lose him if i tell him how i really feel and I sure as hell can not watch him marry someone else, i think it would actually break me”
Wait what? How you really felt, what did that mean?
“I’m in love with him mom I can’t just be happy for him, i’ve been pretending to do that for years now i can’t do it anymore. I know I’m being selfish and I’m not gonna ask him to choose, I’m making this decision on my own, I’m done i can’t anymore” you started sobbing again repeating yourself over and over again “I can’t, I can’t”
Sebastian stood utterly shocked outside your bedroom, torn, he wanted to come in and comfort you like he always would when you were upset but he didn’t understand what the fuck was happening. You were in love with him? Since when? You guys had been friends for almost half your lives how did he not know. What the hell was he supposed to do now? He decided he couldn’t hear anymore and crept back downstairs to the kitchen to try and process the confession he wasn’t supposed to hear.
After you ended the call to your mom you opted for sleep it was the only thing you thought would stop your heart from hurting even for a little while.  You didn’t change from your clothes, just lay in the same position until sleep took you. Sebastian stood from the stool he’d been sitting on for well over an hour now stretching out his tired limbs he decided he would come talk to you, he wasn’t exactly sure what he was going to say he just knew he needed to be near you for reasons he wasn’t sure of, guilt maybe, you were hurting because of him, although it wasn’t exactly his fault he still felt awful so he made his way back to your bedroom.
As he opened the door he spotted you laying on top of your duvet still in your clothes, you looked broken, defeated, his heart ached for you. He was so confused. He stood in the doorway for a little while listening to your breathing it sounded like you were crying but he could tell you were asleep. He made his way over to your bed and crouched down next to you tucking a piece of hair behind your ear brushing his thumb across your cheek to wipe away the tears, he could feel his own tears well in his eyes. You were shaking, crying in your sleep. He didn’t know what he was feeling in that moment but all he wanted to do was cradle you in his arms and make the pain go away.
He loved you, ofcourse he did you were his best friend in the world, he loved you but was he in love with you. He’d never thought of you in that way but in this moment looking at his beautiful best friend so broken and sad he couldn’t help but question his feelings for you. How he would feel if you weren’t in his life anymore would he be okay if you weren’t around to help pick him back up when he fell to help him but his pieces back together. No the answer was no he couldn’t survive without you, was he in love with you, is this what real actual love feels like. His heart hurt at the thought at losing you it hurt at how in pain you were right in this moment it hurt because he didn’t know what to do.
After what like an eternity battling with himself and his feelings for you he made the scariest decision he’d ever made, JUMP, just JUMP if he couldn’t survive without you then he knew he loved you he just knew it somewhere inside him he knew he was IN love with you he wasnt sure how he’d come to this realisation but it felt right. First he would tell you then he would call of his engagement.
“Y/N, sweety wake up” he gently shook your shoulder rubbing his fingers through your hair as he watched you stir and peek up at him through your teary lashes
“What is it” you asked, your voice hoarse from all the crying, he was smiling at you looking at you in a way he never had before
“Do you love me?” he asked
“your my best fr..”
“no” he cut you off “ I mean are you in love with me” he was still smiling
“w-what, I don’t understand” you pulled away from him rubbing your eyes and sitting up
“are you in love with me Y/N, I need you to answer me” he sounded impatient “I need to hear you say it so I know i didn’t mistake what i heard before”
“H-heard before w-when” you were fidgeting now heart thundering in your chest
“Your phone call to your mom, I heard you Y/N you said you we’re in love with me. Is it true?”
You couldn’t look at him just sat fidgeting with the comforter trying to figure out your next move, you didn’t want to lie but you didn’t want to piss him off either. He was growing even more impatient now his own fingers fidgeting as he waited for your answer. You nodded slowly eyes closed lips pursed as you waited for his rejection his anger his frustration. You were definitely not expecting the reaction you got. He tilted your head up to look at you as you met his eyes, full of confusion but adoration and lust and he slowly tenderly pressed his lips to yours. The earth stopped spinning you swear it did, you felt light headed and shocked and happy and scared all at the same time. As he pulled away from you your mouth hung open and you just stared at him blinking opening and closing your mouth like you had words there that refused to come out
“I’m in love with you too Y/N…I didn’t know it until tonight but the thought of not having you in my life made me realise, I love you, like i really love you and I’m sorry it took me this long to figure out and I hope you can forgive me for making you wait so long but I-I’m in love with you too” he was rambling nervously as you sat watching him still in shock mouth still agape you didn’t know what to say how to act the only thing you were sure of was that you loved him and that you wanted to kiss him again. So you did even if it was to just get him to stop talking.
I’ve Been Feeling Everything (SL with @FadingFromSight and @APerfectSong_)
Wes: -The past couple of weeks had been kind of a whirlwind. I wasn’t surprised that Lindsay had been insistent that she would only work with me in the studio. It had been a contingency of her signing on with this studio when I’d first been hired and she’d first been signed. I had a bit of a reputation around the studio for being a hard ass in the booth, even though I was very different with her than I had ever been with anyone else, and I always had been.
Everything that I did in the studio was designed to get the best possible performance out of the artists that were under my supervision, which meant that I pushed some people past their comfort zone. It was where the real art lay in most of them. Some people couldn’t handle that. Some people needed it. Those were the musicians that I worked well with.
I had no idea how Aaron Bennett worked, but the two of us were about to find out. I was in the recording booth beside his assistant, Ophelia, while he was preparing to record a cover of Kiss Me. I was just waiting on him to give me the signal that he was ready while I was making last minute adjustments on the levels of everything in the studio. I knew today was a test to see if the two of us were going to be able to work together before he recorded anything with Lindsay.
I leaned in to the microphone, pressing the button to pipe me into the studio where Aaron could hear me.-
Just say the word when you’re ready, Aaron.
-Releasing the button, I turned to the young woman next to me, trying to be friendly, though the two of us had really just met.-
So, how long have you and Aaron been working together?
Ophelia: *There wasn’t much I could say to the man in the studio with me and Aaron. I wasn’t entirely sure how to tell him the full story. I started working for Aaron because I was around him all the time. It was the nature of our relationship. It wasn’t even that we were married. Because that was not a step I was ready to take with him. I liked where we were. It was comfortable. It was just that I knew how to read him better than anyone else.
But realistically, I knew what the answer had to be. And there was no reason to not lie about this part of our relationship. He was my boss. And it wasn’t the biggest deal in the world. We made everything work for us. Clearing my throat, I looked up from the phone that had my attention. There was a million and one things going on, and Aaron still didn’t know if he was going to get his wish of doing a duet with Lindsay.* A couple of years, Mr. Francis. Mr. Bennett has particular tastes in the people he keeps close to him. And it seems he has grown rather fond of me. Or maybe it’s because I keep him on schedule. Most producers don’t know how to keep him focused. And right now, he’s not. He’s itching to record a duet.
*It wasn’t that I was bitter about the duet. Singing was not my forte. But I knew that Aaron wanted an answer about working with Lindsay Evans. And the record company had told us that there was some kind of hold up with her. They’d have their answer about her recording with him after he started work on his new album. But it was still something I continued to check on for him. He wasn’t often someone who asked to record with another artist, but when he had found out Lindsay Evans was part of this label, he was excited to sign. It meant working with someone that I had hoped wanted to work with him.
Sending out another message to the label executives, I tried to gather more information about why there was a hold up with Lindsay Evans. I just knew that the diva act was something that was bothering me. She didn’t have to do this to him. She didn’t have to force him to lay a track before she decided if she wanted to work with him. It was almost unfair of her to demand that. But all I could do was curse down at my phone as the executives told me to not reach out to her. She’d come to her decision on her own terms.* I hate divas. I hate girls who think they’re better than everyone else. I just need an answer! Sir deserves an answer.
Wes: -I couldn’t help but to listen in to the things that Ophelia was saying, and there was only one thing I could imagine that she was talking about. I’d been watching Aaron through the glass as he prepared for recording. I could tell that he was on edge. From what she was saying, I figured it was about his desire to record a duet with Lindsay. I knew she’d put out there that he was required to lay down at least one track with me to make sure that he could record with me, because she wasn’t going to record with anyone else.
I wasn’t sure how much I should say to her, but she was clearly upset about the situation. I didn’t want either of them walking into things thinking that Lindsay was a diva, because she was far from it. She simply knew her limitations, and working with another producer wasn’t something that was going to happen.-
I know he wants to record with Lindsay Evans. I’ve worked with her since she was a teenager. I’m not exactly the easiest person to record with, but she can’t work with anyone else. I’m not certain how much anyone here has told you. She and I sort of come as a package deal.
Ophelia: *And suddenly I was mortified. I had never taken into consideration that it wasn’t her being a diva. It was something Aaron had dealt with before. So I was protective of him when it came to female artists. I wanted him to get what he wanted, but I didn’t want him to get hurt in the process.
Looking at my hands, I felt the soft apology slip from my lips. I wanted to be open with him. I wanted him to know exactly what had happened and what we had been through.* Aaron has had many female artists make the same demand that Miss Evans did. And they tend to back out once he has a track done. For one reason or another.
He’s been looking forward to recording with Miss Evans. He loves her sound. And signing with this label is exactly what he wanted. Because it gave him the chance to work with her. But no one has told us anything. No one wants to explain her motives. They just expect Aaron to roll over for everyone.
Wes: -I felt bad that I’d made her want to apologize to me. That wasn’t my point. I’d just wanted her to understand what was going on with Lindsay before she jumped to any conclusions. I knew how tight lipped the executives here could be. They thought it made them seem more authoritative, and I knew that it just made the artists who were waiting for an explanation that much more nervous.
I was flattered that he liked her work. It was, by extension, my work, even though what immediately came through was Lindsay and her incredible voice.  The arrangement and the details were my stamp on all of it. I’m the end, each album had been a collaboration between the two of us.
There was more to what she was saying though. She was far more protective of him than I would have expected an assistant to be, even a long term one. She had also called him Sir which gave me a little more insight into how things between them worked and how I could best work with him. I just wasn’t sure if I should bring it up to Ophelia or not-
You have nothing to apologize for. I know how cryptic communication can be in a studio sometimes. She’s actually excited to work with him. She’s been talking about it for weeks at home and in the studio.
-I was interrupted by Aaron piping in from the studio, and put my focus on the sound that was coming in through the headphones perched on my ears-
Aaron: -I had no idea what to expect from Wesley in the studio, but my recording with Lindsay Evans was contingent on this. Why this producer? I didn’t know. No one had told me anything. I was itchy to get started with the track I really wanted to do, and this just seemed like an obstacle in the way of what my goal really was.
This was something I just had to get through to get there, and the sooner the better. I knew I was driving Ophelia crazy with my questions and irritation. I had no idea how she was tolerating me these days, but we’d been through worse together. I could be temperamental when things weren’t going my way, and as much as I might try to suppress it, it came out when I was off my guard.
I had signaled that I was ready to begin to the producer and he counted down to the beginning of the recording. I’d practiced this song before, and I could play and sing it without a second thought. If this was the show I had to put on to make this duet happen then so be it. I just knew that Ophelia was going to know I was half assing this.-
Ophelia: *As soon as Mr Francis said at home, I knew we had a lot more in common than I originally thought. He and Lindsay were an item. And this was how we were going to be able to give Aaron his current dream. And I was going to do everything in my power to make it happen. Even if that meant doing something that would upset Aaron.
I needed to test him. I needed Wesley Francis to be what everyone had warned me about. I needed him to push Aaron to his best performance.* He’s being lazy. His control over the guitar could be stronger. His chords are sloppy at best. He’s phoning it in just so he can work with her. Don’t let him get away with it. Don’t let him do the easy thing. If she’s just as excited as him, make him work for the opportunity. Call him on his flaws. Tell him you hold the keys to Lindsay Evans. It’ll piss him off, but he’ll work.
Wes: -I could hear what Ophelia was talking about before she ever opened her mouth, but having her permission to push him made me that much more determined to get the best work out of him possible. I simply nodded at her with a single sentence-
I hope your Sir realizes that I have the best interests of both of them at heart.
-I left it at that without waiting for her response. If getting the best performance out of him would come from pushing him for his best then I was going to push him until he gave up whatever attitude was holding him up from putting all his effort into this. I was a dom, and I knew what kind of challenge I would have taken seriously. I just hoped I was right on this judgement call.-
Is that the best you can do?
-I saw him freeze and the air of defensiveness wash over his face as Aaron moved to reply, but I cut him off before he could give into his instincts and rebel against what I was saying-
I’m serious. Be perfectly honest with yourself and tell me that that was the best you could do on that song and you weren’t just going through the motions, and then I’ll know you were lying to me. That was sloppy at best. All of it.
-I left it there. I figured he knew where he’d been slacking off. If I’d seen him putting in effort I would have been more constructive with my criticism. As it was, I just wanted to see what came of it when he was actually trying. I knew I’d put on my dom voice without even trying. I could feel that part of my personality wash over me. It was something that helped in the studio from time to time, but this time it was me turning the tables on another dom. I could only hope it didn’t backfire.-
Aaron: -I recognized the tone of voice coming across from the booth immediately. It was one I’d used plenty of times myself, but it hadn’t ever been used on me before. It got my hackles up. I wasn’t nearly ready to admit that I hadn’t put my all into that song for this producer. He didn’t know me or what my best was.
I narrowed my eyes and flared at the booth before glancing over at Ophelia. She was listening to all of this, and she knew more of the truth than Wesley Francis ever could. I toyed with the strings of my guitar for a moment before replying .-
I guess we’re doing another take then?
-It was the only thing I could come up with without going off like a bottle rocket at this guy I didn’t know from Adam's house cat. All I knew was that he was the one thing standing between me and the duet that I really wanted. -
Ophelia: *I didn’t hesitate as I slammed my hand down on the button to talk to Aaron. I wasn’t going to give him the full story. I was just going to tell him what I felt he needed to know. There was only so much that he could understand. My voice was a low growl, one I only used when I needed Aaron to put his best foot forward. This was exactly what he needed to hear.*
Stop being lazy. Stop giving attitude. Do you want to work with Lindsay? Lay the track. And lay the track right, Sir.
*I accentuated the word Sir. I was telling him that I wasn’t hiding our relationship from the producer next to me. I wasn’t pretending that we weren’t an item. And I was forcing Aaron to understand all of that.
I didn’t bother to say another word before I let my hand fall back to my side. I was already kind of exhausted with the way Aaron was being. But I knew the truth. I knew how serious he took his music. And I knew how much he wanted this.* He’s going to fight you, Sir. Give him another take to prove that he’s serious. Give the constructive criticism, but then slowly give him some kind of hope about recording with Lindsay. He has a track picked out. He’s trying to rework it into a duet. But he’s getting ahead of himself.
Wes: -I knew exactly what she was talking about. He was ready to have all this over so much that he was putting the cart before the horse. It hadn't escaped my notice that she’d also called me Sir. I wasn’t exactly hiding the fact that Lindsay and I were together or the nature of our relationship as much as I wasn’t advertising it either. Ophelia was good at picking up the clues I was leaving her though. -
I’m going to trust your judgment. I don’t care if I piss him off. If he’s mad that means he’s at least taking me seriously.
-I sat back in the chair and just watched him for a moment as he struggled to wrap his head around the fact that we were both calling him out on his bullshit before I spoke to him again-
We’re doing another take. First thing I need you to think about is that guitar. I know you can play it. So why don’t you show me?
Aaron: -I’d heard the growl in Ophie’s voice and the challenge in Wesley’s. It left me feeling stripped almost bare with both of them coming for me at once. At least with Ophie, I knew she was only challenging me to help me get what I wanted. Maybe this was going to be the best way to get it. She had to trust him if she’d called me Sir in front of him instead of Mr. Bennett or just plain Aaron.
I wasn’t going to be able to let go of the anger I had rolling through me that easily though. This whole situation had me feeling petulant as hell. It was like I had to audition for the part. I knew Lindsay Evans was good. But I didn’t like the idea of thinking all of this and I were somehow beneath her. It was going to poison my performance until I got it out of my system. I just didn’t know how to let go of it all.
Instead, I just grabbed the guitar and started playing the opening chords to the song. I was putting emotion into it this time, but it was the wrong one. This song didn’t call for the raw anger I was feeling at the moment but it was all I had to give. -
Ophelia: *He was feeling attacked. I could tell it in the way he was playing. He was angry and frustrated. And this was not the way it needed to be done. There was more to it than this. He needed to understand what was going on. And he needed to know that I still cared about him. And as much as I hated going into the booth, he needed me in there for a second. Just so he could get into the right frame of mind.
I saw Wes nod his head in my direction. It helped that he probably went through this with Lindsay. He understood that sometimes you just needed to be in the same space as the person you were connected to. It made everything that much more powerful.
But the raw anger wasn’t the right thing to be feeling. It was the wrong emotion for this song. Not for this one. I knew the original. I knew that this was nothing about anger. It was all about love. It was all about my relationship with Aaron. Even as just AJ and Ophie. It was us at our core. Without the titles and everything else. It was just us. The walk was slow as I tried to gather my composure. I needed him to understand why this was going to be okay.
As I opened the door to the booth, I slipped inside as he tried to lose some of the anger with each chord. My lips pressed against the back of his neck to try to get him to calm down. I wasn’t sure how much was too much, but I had to give Aaron something. I had to let him know what was going on. He needed to know what information I had. My voice was just a whisper against his skin. I was used to communicating with him in the studio. I knew what he would hear and what he wasn’t going to hear.* They’re just like us, Sir. He’s protecting her just like you’d protect me. Prove to him you’re serious about recording with her. Give him the best you have.
*I felt my voice waver as I thought about the next sentence out of my mouth. I knew it was a gamble. It was something I wasn’t entirely sure about, but I had to take this chance. I had to give him the okay to sing this without his Dom side getting in the way.* Sing this for me, AJ. Forget everything else going on around us. Sing this for me.
Aaron: -I noticed Ophelia moving from her seat in the booth towards the glass door that lead into the studio where I was trying to make this work. I hadn’t known what she was doing until she walked over to press a kiss to the back of my neck. All the tension that had been building since I’d first asked to do a duet with Lindsay Evans was melting out of me as soon as she called me AJ.
We had our moments. I was her dom from time to time. I was her boss part of the time. The rest of the time I was AJ. And she was right. This song called for a lot more love than I was giving it with how frustrated I’d become. I didn’t care if Wesley was rolling tape on this take already. I knew what kind of magic a producer could do with a recording, and instead of just keeping on going down the same track I’d been going on, I decided to start over.
I wasn’t sure what exactly Ophie meant by saying he was just like us, except that he had to be involved with Lindsay. Of course he would have been screening anyone who wanted to go work with her. It made sense now that I knew. I just wasn’t exactly sure how much more like us they would be. I only knew that she was comfortable calling me Sir in front of him so he had to understand something. It explained a lot of his reputation.
This time around, I pretended there was no one else in the world except me and Ophie in this little recording studio and I played this one just for her. -
Ophelia: *I knew what he needed. I knew that he was trying to just get through this. He wasn’t thinking about the record. He was thinking about getting his duet. But I knew that he needed to focus on the album as a whole. And having him lay this track was a reminder that he did need to focus on the album. He had time to figure out other songs. He didn’t have to have all the answers right this second. But he needed to take this seriously.
As he settled in to play, I took a seat on the floor. I didn’t want to disturb him, so I wasn’t going to walk out of the booth. And I knew the truth. He needed me here. He needed the constant reminder that this was the way he needed to sing it. He needed to be in the same space as the thing that was the most important thing in the world for him.*
Wes: -I just let whatever was going on in the studio happen while I rolled tape on this. I didn’t care how long it took him on this take. I could trim it down to capture the best parts of it. That was my job. When she walked over to him, planted a kiss on the back of his neck and whispered something that was just between the two of them, I could watch the tension drain out of him. He needed her. I knew the feeling. I needed Lindsay the same way, and I’d seen her get lost in her emotions just like that in the studio. It appeared all of us had more in common than we’d originally believed.
This performance was far different than the two that had just happened. There was just as much raw emotion in it as he’d had the second time around, but this one was more focused on the woman who sat on the floor in front of him simply watching him  play. It was more gentle, more what the song was about. I listened to him sing and understood exactly how he was going to mesh with Lindsay’s voice. His was deep and sonorous where hers was more soft and sweet. The two of them were going to work well together as long as I could get them in the right headspace to work together. I knew I was going to need Ophelia’s help with that.
For now, I was just happy to catch the emotions between the two of them. Now that he’d gotten all that frustration out of his system.-
Aaron: -I remembered why I’d picked this song the moment Ophelia settled at my feet. It reminded me of her and it had since the moment I’d heard it. It couldn’t have been better than if I’d written it for her myself. I found her eyes while I was singing my favorite part of the song, just concentrating on putting the right emotions into all of it and forgetting all the technical aspects of everything-
I’ve been feeling everything. From hate to love, from love to lust, from lust to truth. I guess that’s how I know you…
-She was there through the entire gamut of emotions that I went through, no matter what happened. I wasn’t certain I deserved her, but I didn’t ever intend to let her go as long as I could.
I’d loved her since the first time I’d laid eyes on her, even if I hadn’t been able to tell her for awhile afterwards. She’d been my assistant longer than she’d been my girlfriend, but I’d been hers for my entire life.-
Ophelia: *As soon as AJ was done, I gave him a few minutes to come down. I knew how the emotions ran through him when he was singing for the album. And I knew that it was just a little bit more with this song. It was one that we both loved. And it was one of the ones that had brought us together. It meant so much to us. So I stayed in my position on the floor in front of him. I knew the microphones were going to pick up this conversation. But I also knew that Wes wasn’t going to ues it against us.
AJ needed to hear everything that I knew. He needed to know why I was going to side with Wesley on everything with this album. It was about me protecting AJ as much as it was going to be about Wesley protecting Lindsay.* You want to know why I encouraged him to push you the way that he did? It’s because he’s the reason we haven’t heard back about Lindsay. She can’t record with a different producer. She has to have him as her producer. And apparently it’s been that way since she was a teenager.
*I gave the man in front of me a smile as the lightbulb went off in his head. Producers were just another person to us. But it was true that there were certain producers that worked very well with their artists. And it seemed that Lindsay was very attached to Wes.* I don’t know what happened, but you know the tone you heard from Wesley. You know he’s a Dom. I don’t know if it’s his rules that she can’t record without him, or if it’s something more than that. I’m willing to bet it was something from before. But you need to prove that you can work with Wesley before you can go to Lindsay. Is that something you can do?
Aaron: -I was already kicking myself for being a stubborn ass as soon as I heard the words that Wesley Francis was the gatekeeper for Lindsay Evans. Of course she wasn’t going to take up the offer of a duet from just anyone who offered it to her. I had expected it to be a little difficult, but the fact that she had her producer looking out for her in more ways than one should have already occurred to me. It was the same way that Ophie and I worked to an extent. She screened things from me at times. It was part of her job as my assistant, but there was an element to it that wouldn’t have been there if the two of us hadn’t been involved with each other.
I couldn’t stop myself from strumming at the strings of the guitar while we spoke. It was a hard habit to break, and being in the studio made it even worse. It was just easier for me to think if my hands were doing something I didn’t really have to think about. I’d been petulant, and I had gotten the push from Wesley because of it. I’d deserved all of that, even if I hadn’t realized it in the moment.-
I can do it. If that’s what it takes. I don’t mind being pushed. To be honest, I needed it, especially now that I know it has a reason.
-I couldn’t help glancing over at the glass window that separated us. I knew he could hear every word we were saying. That didn’t mean I was holding anything back. I’d have said the same thing even if he’d been in the room with us. What I’d been so worked up over was not knowing where any of this was going.-
Wesley: -I could hear the two of them talking through the headphones I’d left on, though I’d stopped the recording as soon as he’d stopped playing. I might have felt a little guilty about being the reason that Aaron and Ophelia were kept in the dark if I hadn’t done it out of protection for my Rose. There was more to it than just the fact that she could only work with me.  It did mean that Aaron was going to have to be able to work with me as well. But I was always going to make sure that Lindsay wasn’t getting herself into a situation that wasn’t going to work out for her benefit.
Aaron had a bit of a temper, but most artists did. It wasn’t anything that she and I couldn’t deal with, and it was slightly understandable considering the circumstances. But now that I understood about the relationship between Ophelia and Aaron, I knew that the two of them were going to be much easier to work with than I’d anticipated.
I didn’t care that Ophelia was telling Aaron her suppositions. She didn’t know all of the details, but she knew enough to share the important parts with him. I could fill them in on the rest when we were out of the studio if they wanted to know more. For now, I was content to make sure that he knew enough for the three of us to get things wrapped up in here more quickly.-
Ophelia: *Honestly, it was up to Wesley about if he wanted AJ to record another track. But I had a feeling the three of us were done for the day. We all had gotten what we wanted in a way. Lindsay was still up in the air, but I knew it was simply a matter of Wesley and her talking. If he thought AJ could record with him, then I was sure it was going to be a done deal. Both of them seemed to want it. But I knew how AJ could be once everything started to get to him. And I wasn’t going to let him get that way with her in the room.
Standing from my spot on the floor, I looked at the man who was still fidgeting in front of me. He was still just as terrified of Lindsay telling him no as he had been when he walked into the studio. But I knew it wasn’t going to be a no. Wesley had gotten the best out of AJ. There was no doubt in my mind that we had found our producer for the album.* You have a temper when you record. And you pout when you don’t get your way from the word go. You can’t do that when she’s in here with you. You cannot explode if something isn’t going right. We’ll talk to Wesley to figure out the best moves if you both get stuck. But you cannot do what you normally do. Do you understand me?
Aaron: -I could only laugh when Ophelia started to warn me about being stubborn and contentious when I was working in the studio with Lindsay. I was going to have to be on my best behavior. I figured I could manage that much. As far as working with Wesley went, I could manage that as well. If he could manage me without losing his cool as he had, then he and I were definitely going to be able to work together.-
Then we’ll figure it out, Love. I promise to behave myself around Lindsay, and if I start losing my cool, you’ll be the first to know. I want this enough to know not to screw it up.
-I walked over, letting the guitar fall to my side as I stole a kiss from Ophelia’s lips and glanced towards the glass and Wesley-
So, is that a wrap? Or do I need to do it once more from the top?
Wesley: -I’d heard enough in the last take to know it was probably the best I was going to get out of him. After Ophelia had walked into the room, he’d changed entirely, and the song had shown that change. Having her in the room had given him the exact right motivation to get it done as it was meant to have been done without any further prompting from me. It was pure, and I wouldn’t have been able to reproduce those emotions if we’d done it a million times. It wasn’t about that song being perfect. The song he’d chosen was all about the emotion, and emotion wasn’t something I could fake or practice a musician into.-
I think it’s perfect, Aaron. If you’re happy with it, then so am I.
-I didn’t think either of them was going to demand another take, but I’d been surprised by an artist before. I wanted to offer them the opportunity to record it again if they wanted, but I could tell from the sound of Aaron’s voice that wasn’t going to be a thing. -
Ophelia: *For some reason, AJ looked to me for an answer. I wasn’t sure what he wanted to hear, though. If Wesley thought it was perfect, there wasn’t much else I could tell him. I was only here as his girlfriend and assistant. It was not my job to decide how well he was singing. All I could do was tilt my head at him and wait for his answer. But it seemed he wanted my opinion.*
I can’t be in this part of the booth, AJ. Not every time. And you know that. I can sit behind the glass with Wesley. But I cannot always be in here. I don’t think you’re going to get a better version of the track than you just laid down. It’s damn close to perfect to my ears. Maybe Wesley can find some work for it, but if he’s not telling you to record it again…
*I let my words trail off with a shrug. I wanted to give him the chance to make up his mind. Gently pressing my lips to his jaw, I whispered softly against the skin.* I think there’s still a discussion the three of us need to have before you and Lindsay jump into the study. Ask your producer if it’s okay for us to talk.
*I didn’t give him a chance to answer me before I was sliding out the door. I needed to take a breath and think about where we were going before I went back to Wesley. I knew that the next step was getting her into the studio. We needed the two of them to get together and see if this was something that was going to work. But I wasn’t going to let anyone walk into her space if she wasn’t ready for all of this.*
Aaron: -I knew she was right about us needing a talk. I figured Ophelia had more cards in her hand than I did at this point with the situation we were in. I wanted her opinion on the track, because that one had been for her and no one else. It didn’t matter that we’d gotten it on tape or that it would be going on my next album. That song would always be hers.
I let her walk out of the room after stealing a kiss off the back of her hand. I knew after this one, I was on my own more or less in the studio, even if I was working with Lindsay. I had to keep my shit under control.
I shot a glance over behind the glass at Wesley and knew he was listening, though I was going to ask him for a chance to talk anyway-
So, Mr. Francis? What do you say about you, me and Ophelia sitting down for a little chat after we get everything wrapped up here? Your office?
Wesley: -It seemed like there was a lot we needed to talk about. Ophelia had been smart to suggest it before she’d left the studio, because I would have asked them to join me in my office when we got finished in the studio anyway. I needed them to understand a few things, and I felt like I needed to understand their dynamic a lot more before we dove into all of this.-
Why don’t you take a quick break while I get things saved and loaded where I can work with them a little more back in the office. Then we can meet back upstairs if that’s alright with you.
-Aaron just nodded, grabbing his guitar and heading out into the hall to take a breather. After the intense session we’d just had, I figured he could use it. If he was anything like most artists, that had taken a lot out of him, but we still had a lot to talk about concerning how things were going to go in the future.-
Ophelia: *I gave AJ a smile as he walked out into the hallway. Taking the guitar from his hands, I let him press his lips against my cheek. Just to the side of my piercing. This was absolutely the right move for everyone. I needed AJ to prove that this was how we were going to be, but I wasn’t going to be a distraction in the studio. I was there to help when he needed it, but I wasn’t going to step on anyone’s toes to get his best performance out. Lacing my hands with his, I started pulling him out towards the parking garage. I didn’t want to have to carry his guitar up to Wesley’s office with us. And there were still a few things I wanted to talk to him about before we made our way up to the office.
Taking a breath as the warm air hit us, I turned to face the man next to me. Giving him a small smile, I let a soft laugh slip out.* You can do this without me. I know you can. But you need to be confident. Wesley isn’t going to tear you apart unless you give him a reason to tear you apart. Don’t give him a reason, Sir. You know this.
*By switching from AJ to Sir, I was letting the silent question fall into the air. What did he want me to be when we were in Wesley’s office. Was I going to be Ophelia the assistant, Ophie the girlfriend or Doll the submissive. The way that he responded was going to tell me how he wanted me to act.*
Aaron: -Ophie had spent all of our time back in the studio calling me AJ, and as much as I felt like I’d been chastised back there by Mr. Frances, I needed my girlfriend at my side more than I needed the submissive side of her at my feet. I could enjoy both halves of her, and I needed the part of her that was my assistant and kept all my life in order. But right now, I needed her to hold my hand through all of this. My music left me a little bare at times, and today was one of those times.
I let her get to the car and slide my guitar into the backseat of the car before I reached out to thread my fingers between hers, pulling her into me as I reached around her to shut the car door in one smooth motion.-
Then I won’t give him a reason to tear me apart, Ophie. Just be there holding my hand while I try not to make an ass of myself, okay?
-I leaned in to steal a kiss from her lips before wrapping my arms around her and pressing her chest against mine. I needed her at my side more than anything at the moment. I knew we were going to have some talking to do with Wesley, and that there was more to his relationship with Lindsay than meets the eye. I just wasn’t sure exactly how much to be prepared for as we made our way back into the building.-
Ophie: *It had been my job to learn about the building. I knew where we were going without thinking. I didn’t want to give AJ the time to get lost. Because he would. With the way his nerves were acting, I knew he was distracted. And taking control was something I could do for him.
All I could do was relax, though. Going into Wesley’s office, we were going to be on the same playing field. I wasn’t going to be Doll. I was just going to be Ophie. I could switch roles easily, so I could have been Sir’s Doll. But hearing that he needed Ophie more than he needed Doll made me breathe a little easier. The receptionist outside of Wesley’s office gave us a smile and nodded her head. It was her way of letting us know that he was waiting for us.
I didn’t hesitate as I took a seat across from the man that I had spoken to earlier. I wanted AJ to understand that all of this was going to be okay. We were going to be able to make all of this work.* He’s not going to shut you down, AJ. I’m pretty sure he has a million and one ideas for you and Lindsay.
Wesley:-As soon as I’d wrapped up everything in the recording booth, I made my way back up the stairs to my office. I half expected Aaron and Ophelia to be waiting there for me when I’d arrived, but I was glad to see that they’d taken my offer to take a break and then come upstairs to meet me. I knew the two of them probably needed a moment to themselves before we carried on with the next steps of whatever was about to happen. I didn’t intend to keep any secrets from the two of them. I didn’t think I was going to be betraying any confidence of Lindsay’s to let them know the type of relationship that the two of us had, especially if it meant that Lindsay and Aaron knew better how to work with each other when they finally got into the studio together.
I’d needed a bit of a break as much as the two of them had seemed to. We were all learning a lot about each other, and it seemed that we would be learning a lot more in the very near future. All I could manage to do was settle into my desk and wait for the two of them to join me for the rest of this conversation.
Only a few minutes must have passed, though it seemed like longer before I heard them coming through the outer doors and went to hold open the office door for the two of them.-
Come on in. I think we have a lot to talk about.
Aaron: -I grabbed Ophie’s hand to pull her into the office behind me. Wesley was right. It did seem that we had a lot to discuss, just based on the things she’d told me on our walk out to the garage and back. I hadn’t been party to most of it while I’d been shut away in a different room, though I didn’t think they’d actually discussed that much. The only thing I could think of doing was making all three of us sit down and figure out all of this, even if it meant that he was going to tell me that Linsday and I weren’t going to be able to work together. I needed to know, no matter what was going to come of it.-
Well, why don’t we get this thing started? I think that’s probably the best idea.
Ophelia: *I knew AJ was nervous. He still didn’t have the direct answer of if he was going to be able to work with Lindsay. I wanted to reassure him. I wanted everything to work out for him. But I also knew it wasn’t entirely my place to tell him that this was going to come together for him. Wesley was her producer, first and foremost. Yes, he may work with other artists, but Lindsay was the center of the world for him as a producer. She was his precious gem. And he would do anything to protect her and her sound from falling into the wrong hands.
But I knew that AJ had a way with music. It was rough, but it could be turned into something pretty amazing with the right opportunity. And I wanted him to have this opportunity. And I was afraid for him. He was closing himself off because he wasn’t entirely sure where Wesley stood on the idea of AJ and Lindsay in the booth together.*
Take a second to breathe, AJ. You’re getting ahead of yourself. And before you say a word, it is absolutely written all over your face. *Turning my attention to the man across the desk from us, I gave him a smile while spinning the piercing in my cheek.* Tell him he can work with her. You’re going to allow Lindsay in the studio with AJ.
Wesley: - I hadn’t said anything to Ophelia about Lindsay working with AJ, but I was convinced that the two of them were going to sound amazing together. They just needed to understand more about how the two of us worked together if this duet between the two of them was going to work out.-
You absolutely can record with Lindsay. She won’t have a problem with it. I just think you both need to know a few things about her process before the two of you work together. It’s going to take some time, and some patience, maybe out of both of you, but it’s her first time recording a duet with anyone.
-The two of them needed to know about the only time she’d tried to record without me, and the fall out from all of that. It was an absolutely necessary story for them to realize the way things could go if we didn’t to this right.-
There was only one time she’s tried to record without me. She was upset with me, and rightly so. I’d earned it, but going into the studio with anyone else turned out to be a disaster. She got lost in her head, and no one knew how to pull her out when she melted down into a full blown panic attack. Someone had to come and get me to take her out of it, and even then, it took me days to get her back into the right mindset to really start working on the album.
I don’t want you thinking she’s fragile. It’s just that she’s such a perfectionist that she’s going to spiral when things aren’t exactly as she pictured them unless I can give her something else to focus on. It was how we figured out that there was more to the two of us than just being a producer and a performer. I had to blindfold her to get her from getting lost in her head.
To be honest, there are a lot of things the two of us are still figuring out. Especially about the two of us being a couple while we work together, but we’re a package deal. Take or leave it.
The two of you are going to need to spend some time together to work out what you want to sing and figure out the right arrangement, and then you’ll need to spend some time in the rehearsal studio to get it right before we ever step into the studio to record it.  The thing is…
-I glanced over at Ophelia before the next thing came out of my mouth.- I don’t think that either Ophelia or I need to be there when it happens. The two of you should get a feel for each other before we ever step into things as a group.
-I wasn’t sure how either of them was going to respond to that, but it was absolutely a thing that needed to happen.-
Aaron: -I knew that Wesley had a point there. I didn’t mind if Ophelia was around, but if Lindsay was as particular about the way she worked as she seemed to be, then having two new people around her was only going to make it that much harder to get the work done. I could understand something like that, and I needed to make sure that I got a feel for her and the way she worked before we ever stepped into the studio together. Besides, we needed to work out exactly what we were going to do first. I had a couple of ideas I wanted to run past her, but I had no way of knowing how she was going to respond to them.
I just wanted to make sure that Ophie was going to be alright with it all. I glanced over at my girl, giving her hand a squeeze. She’d left me alone to do my thing plenty of times. We came as a package deal, but we could operate on our own well enough-
I’m down for it if you are, Ophie. I’m just ready to get the ball rolling since we’ve all been waiting so long to see what comes of this.
Ophelia: *All I could do was nod my head. I couldn’t exactly tell them no. Not when this was the right move for both AJ and Lindsay. I could absolutely be the demanding girlfriend. I could tell him that I wasn’t going to let him go alone. But I wasn’t that girl. The problem was that I didn’t have much of anything to do. AJ and I weren’t from New York, so the hotel had been our home since we had arrived. And I wasn’t sure if he was going to go have me do stuff while he was with Lindsay.
I felt my shoulders rise and fall in a shrug as I looked at the two men in front of me. They knew what would work best for this recording. AJ knew his process, and it seemed like Wesley knew Lindsay’s process. But that shouldn’t have been a surprise. Especially if she had been his artist since she was a teenager.* If you think it’s for the best thing for the recording, I can’t stop you. I don’t have it in me to play jealous girlfriend. But I can honestly tell you that I don’t want to be locked up in a hotel room while you’re off working on this song.
*I wasn’t sure what they wanted to hear. But I also wasn’t going to just give in to them, either. Yes, AJ may have be my Dom. And Wes was a Dom. But this was not a playroom or a BDSM club. I didn’t necessarily have to put on the perfect sub facade for either one of them at the moment. This was a space where I could completely come to terms with what I was feeling and why I was feeling that way. I wasn’t being Doll. I was being Ophie, just as AJ wanted.*
Wesley: -I could tell from the look on Ophelia’s face that she wasn’t thrilled about the idea of being alone while AJ was in the rehearsal space with Lindsay. I couldn’t blame her. The two of them were more or less new to the city. They were staying in a hotel until they found a more permanent place, and she wasn’t going to know anyone. Leaving her alone to her own devices, even for a couple of hours, wasn’t something that I was a hundred percent willing to do.-
Then don’t sit around the hotel room. There are a couple of places in the city I think you’d enjoy visiting. You should come around with me while the two of them work on rehearsing. Besides, there are a few friends I’d like you to meet. I think you’ll enjoy getting to know them a little better. It will give you someone in the city to know at least, so you’re not completely on your own.
-I wanted the two of them to know that they were most certainly not alone in the city, and I thought taking Ophelia to the Little Shoppe of Temptations and maybe showing her Trinity would be at least a way of introducing her to the city.-
Aaron: -I gave Ophie’s hand a squeeze. Getting to know the city would be a good thing for her, along with meeting more people around here. The two of us barely knew our way between the hotel and the studio, much less anything else. Getting out of the hotel while I worked with Lindsay was probably the best plan, but I wasn’t going to answer for her. She needed to make up her own mind that this was what she wanted to do. I still wanted her to have my encouragement, however-
You should go, Babe. It’ll be a good chance to get out and meet some new people, and it’ll give you something to do when I’m busy. I won’t need an assistant that day, and you deserve to get out and have some fun.
Ophelia: *I wasn’t sure I wanted to believe him. But I knew that if he was telling me to go out and have fun, I was going to go out. And the offer from Wesley was almost too good to pass up. I figured he was right, though. I did need to get out and meet new people. And there was really no one better to spend the day with than with Wesley. He understood the city. He knew people. And both of them were right. The best thing for me was to meet other people. I just wasn’t entirely sure where we were going and why Wesley thought it was a good idea.
I gave AJ a smile, though. I wanted him to understand that I got it. This wasn’t about me. This wasn’t about him leaving me. This was about his career. It was the best thing for everyone. And if that meant going into the city with Wesley for a day, I was pretty sure it was something I could do.*
I’m not opposed to going out for the day with you, Wesley. You know the truth about me and AJ. You know we’re living out of suitcases right now. And I think the possibility of us making New York our home is something we’re both seriously starting to consider. So if you think there are people in this town worth meeting, then we can go ahead and meet them. I’m just not sure where you want to start this little field trip of ours.
Wesley: -I knew what it was like to be new to the city. I’d been there myself a few months ago. I also hated to hear that they were living out of a suitcase. I thought that was at least something the studio could take care of. I had a bit of an idea there, but it was something I was going to have to run by the executives a little higher up than me to make sure that it happened. That could wait, even if not for long. Introducing Ophelia to some of my closest friends was something that was a bit more immediate.
I knew that Lindsay had felt utterly alone when we’d first come to New York. It had been one of my shortcomings as her boyfriend, even if I’d been new to relationships in general, at least relationships where I really and truly cared about the other person. I still had some guilt about that, but I could help prevent it for Aaron and Ophelia as much as possible.-
Good. I promise you won’t regret it.
-Turning to Aaron, I grabbed a pen and some paper to jot down the address for the penthouse that Lindsay and I lived in along with my cell phone number, passing it over to him.- Here’s my address. You and Lindsay can use the rehearsal studio there, and I’ll be waiting to take Ophelia around town for the day. Just call me if you have any trouble finding it.
-I had to admit I’d been a little nervous about the way that things might go today. I’d half expected Aaron to say that he wasn’t going to be able to work with me and effectively end things then and there. Instead, it seemed that they were going to be a lot more of an element in mine and Lindsay’s lives that I’d first thought. I was now just looking forward to seeing just what they thought of the other important people in our lives. Something told me that they needed to meet Cay and Myrick almost as much as Lindsay and I had. Being isolated was a bad thing, and not being sure who you could trust with the details of your life made it even worse.
We could take care of the fact that they were living out of a hotel sooner or later. That would take more than a day to organize. Tomorrow, though, I had already blocked out the day to spend with Aaron in case things hadn’t gone as planned in the studio today. It would be easy enough to give them the time they needed. I just hoped for everyone’s sake that I was doing the right thing here.-
250 People Reveal The Lesson They Learned After A Failed Relationship
Edu Grande
1. “Waiting for a man to change is the biggest mistake a woman has ever made.”
2. “If they are not ‘what’ you want in the beginning, move on.”
3. “Self-love is the foundation of any relationship.”
4. “No matter how good you were together once the other stopped choosing you, it’s over. Also, no matter what you’ve been through… you gotta thank them for the memories. I’m pretty sure it’s not all bad. Just thank them but don’t dwell on it.”
5. “Don’t expect a cheater to change. If s/he is always looking for attention of others after all you give, it’ll never be enough…and/or s/he’s may be a narcissist.”
6. “Never beg someone to love or be with you, because if someone truly and utterly cares about you, they will treat you as a priority.”
7. “It doesn’t matter how long you’ve known each other and how much ups and downs you’ve shared. If he decides to leave and turn his back from you, there is nothing you can do. But you can always regain your balance, so long as you have not lost yourself in the process of losing him. Above all, love and respect yourself.”
8. “No matter how much you want your relationship to be your last, you cannot force someone to stay if they choose to give up on you.
Also, you can’t force something that isn’t meant to work out in the first place.”
9. “Love yourself more than you love him Love yourself more than you love him Love yourself more than you love him Love yourself more than you love him Love yourself more than you love him Love yourself more than you love him So it’s not gonna hurt dat much when things didn’t work out.”
10. “Sometimes it’s better to let go and move on than it is to fight for something that only one of you truly wants.”
11. “Proving yourself will never be a guarantee that he will choose you!!! Love yourself!!! That’s all you have! YOURSELF!!!”
12. “Some may be more suited for you than others, and you may think you found the perfect person for you but the ONE is a myth. I don’t believe anyone who says they found the ONE because the person you found is someone you liked best from the pool you were exposed to, and not the entire population on the planet. Obvious gross incompatibilities aside, there is no ONE perfect person for you that you need to constantly be in search of. Bottom line, every relationship, whatever the degree of compatibility of the couple, is a lot of work and can survive only with willful commitment to work on themselves and the relationship. You, your partner, and your relationship will always be works in progress. Embrace that. You can’t give someone everything all the time, nor can you expect it. You are both perpetually learning from each other and life, growing together and trying to give each other the best, also bringing out the best in the other person. The grass always seems greener on the other side, but realize the value of what is in front of you. This doesn’t mean you settle or compromise beyond your breaking point. Just learn to appreciate things for what they are rather than be deluded into a never-ending search for something better; spoiled by every iteration of ‘happily ever afters’ in the movies and books. Real life starts AFTER the fairy-tale ending in the books and the movies.”
13. “Don’t be too dependent on your emotional needs to others. Love yourself enough that you need not to look for a love from others.”
14. “Learn to forgive no matter how much the person caused so much pain and no matter how hurtful it is. Forgiving is always associated with forgetting. Forget in a way that you need to move on and keep moving forward even if that person is no longer with you in crossing those paths. Forgive and forget will give you peace of mind.”
15. “When someone continues to hurt you, end the relationship. It really is that simple. It matters not who they are. Put some boundaries up; if they still hurt you, move on!”
16. “The relationship with my ex-wife ended 25 years ago but we have a son together. I’ve cut her out of my life and only have a relationship with my son. She continues to manipulate every situation. Hard to move on when she still needs to control everything.”
17. “When they start trying to change you or quiet your voice, let them go. Fall in love with someone who doesn’t make you think love is hard. True love should be as natural as breathing. Don’t ignore your instincts. Be with someone who values you completely…and who sees you the way you’ve always wanted to see yourself. Someone who would never intentionally hurt you verbally, emotionally, or physically. Someone who can apologize sincerely. Someone who is all in…your teammate, your partner in life…they don’t make you work for or prove your value to them or your relationship. Someone who makes your relationship their priority.”
18. “Have your own life. Make yourself happy. Don’t rely on someone to make you happy. Enjoy spending time with yourself. Have self-fulfillment.”
19. “With any relationship problem, there are three sides to it: his (or hers), hers (or his), and the objective reality. I have seen way too many promising relationships being abandoned prematurely because one or both of them are unwilling to consider the objective reality owing to the reinforcement of their own negative delusions. Everyone thinks they are right and what suffers is something beautiful together that could have been.”
20. “God has better plans than I thought I already had for myself. And wait for God’s perfect timing. Stop putting everything on a hurry. Know your worth.”
21. “Once consistency stops and distance starts, it’s time to stop lying to yourself and leave. Stop making excuses for him. Because there will be a time where all you find yourself doing is giving. And that feeling of being empty comes into play. Almost like you are being robbed of life. Don’t be afraid to be alone. Because it’s so much worse being with someone and STILL feeling alone.”
22. “Be happy Be positive Never regret meet anyone coz each of them teaches you something Forgive and forget Don’t ruin your self-worth just because you trust. Don’t be a cheater just because your ex didn’t appreciate your loyalty Appreciate everything Try to let it go. You deserve to be happy Learn from the positive one leave the negative one Love yourself before you love someone else Stop judging yourself Get a life! Last but not least. Be beautiful. Be rich. Be you. Be a Queen.”
23. “Forgive and move forward. Don’t chase. The only things that can change a person’s stance/perspective on a failed relationship are time and experience. People, once removed from a situation, can better evaluate their own mistakes, find solutions, and come to less-clouded decisions. It’s cliche as all hell, but ‘if you love someone set them free, if they cone back it was meant to be’-just remember it goes both ways; love yourself enough to set yourself free, also.”
24. “Be brave enough not to sacrifice self-respect. Never expect from broken promises. Continue living up with your dreams no matter how broken or how devastated you are. Don’t ignore the red flags that consistently show up.”
25. “Don’t EVER disregard red flags. Never settle for less than what you deserve. Be firm, know your worth. Never lower your standards. Be strong enough to stand up for yourself and your beliefs. You could bend for them, but don’t ever break the rules you’ve set to protect yourself. Be wise, every single time. Some men are manipulative and love to play the victim. Show them that shit doesn’t get to you. If they’re guilt-tripping you, be rad enough to point out their shits. Don’t be afraid to backfire. Like when they say, ‘Okay so I am not doing enough then.’ Oh yes lazy-ass! Your words mean nothing when your actions tell otherwise! ‘Don’t worry, I’m used to being dumped.’ Why the hell don’t you change your ways then?
Don’t.baby.them. Be fierce, girl.”
26. “I always tell myself there’s no such thing as a failed relationship…it’s just two people whose paths were only meant to cross for a little while.”
27. “Always go with your instinct if someone doesn’t feel right for you…and walk away rather than settle or expect them to change…whether they change or not is out of your control!…and ALWAYS learn something about yourself from that experience to inform yourself in the next one!”
28. “I’ve learned that it’s not easy to handle the pain….Really, very painful. If I get a chance to bring back the past, I wish I didn’t meet that person.”
29. “I am a hard-headed strong woman and I deserve someone who accepts that and does not expect me to change. I deserve someone who has my best interests in mind and understands that my dreams comes before anybody else. I deserve someone who loves me so deeply that my cheeks hurt from smiling too much and that learns my way of returning love. Without all of the failed relationships I would not have learned any of this.
Heartbreak sucks, but without pain we could never appreciate the good. I do not regret a single relationship I had or how it turned out; every end and bad situation just makes me more ready for when I find the ‘one.’ I have gained insights and friendships I could have never imagined and I have grown to be more myself at every end. So here is to you, relationships of my past; without you I would not be me.”
30. “People come and go. You don’t get to choose who will stay. A nine-year relationship ended over a month-old ‘not so good kind’ of friendship. When it’s time to choose, guess who did he let go.”
31. “Not to date DJ hipster vegetarians. I should’ve know better when his pants were tighter than mine and I had more muscle mass. Lmao.”
32. “That even after years together with no previous signs they can still snap one night and beat the crap out of you in front of your kid without provocation. Relationship done, left that night after leaving the hospital. Not looking back.”
33. “You make your own happiness. You shouldn’t take the blame for someone else’s bullshit; they have to own their own. Don’t let anyone hit you or talk down to you. Learn to say ‘enough is enough.’”
34. “That you have the right to speak up about how you feel, not needing to be afraid offending your partner especially if it’s the truth.”
35. “Don’t settle for less than you deserve. If that person makes you doubt yourself and can’t accept your past mistakes, flaws, shortcomings, and differences, then he’s definitely not the right person.”
36. “No matter how much you love the other person, never let them hurt your self-respect and always trust your gut feelings; blind trust leads to destruction.”
37. “You can’t settle. You may have started out great, but the second you both start to realize you want different things, it’s time to let it go. No matter how much you love that person, you need to love yourself first. Also, if there is no trust, you are not gonna last. You need to be able to trust your partner.”
38. “One of the important lessons to learn is to not chase after people. If you lose someone, don’t allow their absence to make you lose yourself, too. You were fine before you met them, so you can learn how to be happy again without them. You are strong, beautiful/handsome, and you will be okay.”
39. “Love and prioritize yourself. That is the best way to protect yourself from people who want to hurt you. Love without regrets, but learn how to say NO and be assertive as possible. Do not be bossy, demanding, or clingy. Remember, love is a simple thing to do. Do not over-complicate things.”
40. “I learned that you need to have your own life as well. We thought that it’s ideal if you and your significant other do everything together. But you know what? It’s no good. You need to be happy on your own. Don’t depend your happiness to her/him. I also learned that trust is important and so is honesty. No matter how hard it is. Trust fully and be honest. It’s not a failed relationship. It’s a successful one. I learned a lot from it. I am treasuring all the memories.”
41. “Love hurts and it’s overrated, but you don’t have to suffer from it. Love yourself first and the right people will come. It may take a lot of work, patience, and mistakes, but what’s meant for you will be there.”
42. “Don’t rely your happiness on someone else; you’ll get hurt in the long run. Always leave something for yourself. Trust God; He has greater plans for you. Seek His will in all you do and He will show you which path to take.”
43. “Actions speak louder than words, never lower your standards or allow anyone to treat you badly, and you can’t force anyone to love you-if they want to walk away just let them, look forward to the better things that are coming rather than wasting tears over someone who isn’t worth it.”
44. “Listen to your heart AND your brain. Sometimes, as much as we want something to work, if it’s not meant to be, you have to be realistic and walk away. Life’s too short to waste trying to make something work that just won’t.”
45. “Love yourself more. Value your worth so if the relationship fails I know it’s painful but you will handle it by faith and you can survive without that person. Every failed relationship is a way of learning to become a better you.”
46. “Age is not an indication of maturity. A man can be in his 40’s and still behave like a teenage boy. It’s about how willing they are to make changes and step up to challenges. I have friends in their 30’s or 20’s more mature than this guy. It isn’t in how great they initially are already. Don’t bank on that. It’s on how open they are to change and stepping up to responsibility. Also, if you catch him lying about important things thrice. Different important things. Once is forgivable. Twice can be considered, but three major lies indicate something really wrong with this person and his lack of respect for you as a human being.”
47. “Don’t ignore the red flags. Don’t ignore those quiet, subtle thoughts that you have in the beginning that it’s not going to work. Pay very close attention to a person’s choices that they’ve made. People show you the person that they want you to see and hide what they don’t want you to see. It can be years before you fully know someone, and then it may be too late to get out. So, trust your intuition. Pay attention to those thoughts that pop up from your subconscious. Those red flags are moments when they’re giving you an accidental glimpse of who they really are. The choices that they’ve made prior to you are the choices that they’ll make with you. Biggest warning sign of all is to watch out for the perpetual victim. That person who has one story after another of things that happened to them and they are the victim of someone else’s actions. They will continue that with you. Nothing is ever because they made a bad choice. Nothing is ever their fault. They take responsibility for nothing. You will be one more person that abused them in some way as they are crying about it to someone new.”
48. “The importance of fighting fair. When you’re angry and just saying anything you can to hurt the other person, whether it’s true or not-that’s not fighting fair. You can never take back the things you say in those moments and the other person can never forget them. My husband and I fight plenty, but even when I am at my angriest with him, I don’t fight dirty and I never say something just to hurt him. An argument should still be productive.”
49. “It’s important not to get TOO wrapped up in your emotions. Love and attraction are important, but you have to be realistic, too-if you each want completely different things, that’s probably not going to be the best fit. Be able to recognize that you can love someone and they can love you back and you can still be wrong for each other.”
50. “1. Never expect the same kind of love you give in return…you’ll end up focused on the ideal relationship you want…which ain’t gonna happen. 2. Trusts vs. mistrust. If you can’t, he can’t, either. Be open and vocal. 3. If it changes you, you’re either fooled or prioritized. 4. Being loved twice as much you love them is way better. 5. Accept pain if it breaks you. 6. Stay strong. 7. Karma hits hard. Let them have a taste of their own medicine.”
51. “Relationships are work, but after being in a good relationship v. a bad one, I’ve learned that while the work can be hard, it shouldn’t make you miserable.
The work should feel rewarding and not make you stressed beyond belief.
I hate that saying that the more you suffer for a relationship, the stronger it is. No. That’s bull. The right person won’t make you suffer.”
52. “That until love is tested by trying times you will not really know who loves truly. Wait till adversity comes; it’s easy to love when it’s all rosy!”
53. “I guess I could sum it all up to patience. I was too impatient with myself that it caused me to question my self-worth and made me dive into a relationship I wasn’t ready for. I was too impatient with others that I assumed that we were going somewhere, but I was wrong…I was too impatient with everything that it caused me to be frustrated with how things were going in my life…I guess with time, I’ve learned to be more patient with myself and understand my value as a woman. I’ve learned to be patient with others in understanding their true intentions, and more importantly, I’ve learned to be patient with God’s plans for me, because I know what He has planned is waaaaay better than what I have planned for myself.”
54. “That it is true, you accept the love you think you deserve. When you realize you deserve better, it kind of smacks you in the face. I didn’t equate the disrespect I was used to receiving as anything but being ‘pushed to be better.’ These days, I am pushed to be better by someone who shows their love and support for who I already am as well as who I want to become. I know now that I deserve a great love, and I found it.”
55. “Don’t stay just because you’re afraid of what others think. Don’t see leaving as failure. Knowing yourself well enough to know when something isn’t healthy for you anymore is a great accomplishment. Chances are that your friends and family are waiting for you to leave anyway and are prepared to jump to help you.”
56. “If they’re willing to run at the first sign of trouble rather than work through it, walk away.
As soon as you become an option, walk away.
If they’re not willing to ‘Love’ all of you (the good and the bad), walk away.
There will be someone who will love ALL of you including, your flaws all the way down to your core.
Forgive those who have hurt you, as peace of mind heals the soul.”
57. “Love with your heart. Not with your whole heart, though, leave some for you.
Don’t regret. Learn and move forward. The flaws will appear in time. Don’t force yourself to accept the flaws of your relationship because it will eventually break you.
If it’s over, it’s over.
Don’t fall in love right away. Heal and grow.
Ask all the questions in the beginning to save yourself from a possible heartache in the long run.
Give space, but talk things out with your partner.”
58. “That there’s no one that really got away. No, they did not get away but it was a choice of either you or the other person. Two separate ways. Because if you guys are really meant to be, no matter how long or short the relationship is, you will always find ways to stay.”
59. “Always give the benefit of the doubt. Just because you’re married does not mean you can treat your spouse any way you please. A desperate needy woman is very unattractive. You will be OK. Hating that person only chains you to him/ her, forgive and you will be free, not because that person deserves it but to set yourself free.”
60. “That you cannot allow yourself to be in a relationship with some unfinished issues with yourself. It is really important that you have to know yourself in every aspect so that you will know exactly what you really want. The other one is be in a relationship because you really want to be with that person and not just because you just want some company. It’s truly unfair for the both of you being stuck in a relationship just for the sake of being in.”
61. “Someone who truly loves you would never leave you to deal with depression on your own after they get knowledge of it. And most definitely won’t do it over Whatsapp and while on a business trip to Sweden, especially if it has been 10 years. And then come back when they see you’re finally doing better and are ready to move on to better things/people.”
62. “Make sure that you are not the only one who has anything to contribute to the divorce. Because the useless, disrespectful, entitled half will take it all and still ask, ‘Where’s the rest of it?’ So make sure you tell them to get off of their ass, work harder, save money, start a retirement account, and don’t blow $30,000 out of our business account on non-business-related purchases and then blame others.”
63. “I learned that no matter how long you’ve been together…or how many times you’ve given forgiveness…or countless time where you chose the love you have over other things that can be a great opportunity for you…they will still LEAVE YOU…the painful thing was when they just left you without answers on why…I realized that they are not as all out for you as you are to them…and that they only think of themselves rather than you or the things that could hurt you…The more you forgive…the more you get hurt…but you will always reach the end point… when you reach that? Stop. Move on. Cry if you need to…but then when you’re done…Focus on what matters…be brave and learn to love and take care of yourself more…Pray for GOD’s love and guidance…”
64. “Don’t miss out on something good just because it’s different than what you planned. Sometimes, it’s okay to change your dreams and take a chance. And sometimes, love just isn’t enough. But if you are lucky, when one door closes, whether on purpose or accidentally, another will open.”
65. “Never regret what happened with you and your ex; things happen for a reason, Don’t get mad with your ex, forgive him and forgive yourself as well, learn to accept the fact that it is over, remind yourself that there’s always better to come along, and surround yourself with positivity.”
66. “We’ll meet that perfect person in our life but no matter how perfect they are sometimes they are just not perfect for us. At the end of the day, we should just be happy having to meet the person we used to love who also loved us, and accept the fact that relationships end because on the long way run we tend to say things we don’t mean and hurt the person we love and who loves us. You don’t talk to each other like that before but now you do.”
67. “I won’t shed another tear for someone who can’t talk about what is going on. Relationships are work and rewarding when both put in the work…”
68. “If they don’t accept you for who you are and help you become a better person instead of constantly criticizing you and judging you for your faults, then they do not truly love you. Love should happen through the good bad and ugly and if they bring you down instead of lifting you up then they ain’t worth it.”
69. “To always listen to your intuitions and acknowledge your instincts! That ‘little voice’ that tells you some things that someone is doing and saying is toxic for you, should never be ignored because this voice you hear is your wake up call to finding yourself again!”
70. “Don’t let yourself be pressured into a relationship you don’t want just because all your friends like that friend better, the person keeps crying about it, and everyone is saying ‘you should give them a chance.’”
71. “Don’t stay for a one-time high if they’ve given you an all-time low. You can’t be the only one giving 100% all the time while they give you 100% once in a blue moon.”
72. “People are fickle and treat partners like disposable objects now with so much social media & too many choices…a simple disagreement and it’s just too easy to swipe right /left or whatever to find another. Sad world.”
73. “Don’t ignore your own feelings. If you think that the relationship you are in is wrong, then it is. Never settle for words, always pay attention to how they treat you. And don’t forget to not get lost; make sure you know your way back.”
74. “- Never sacrifice self-respect. If someone no longer respects you and is talking down to you, be brave enough to walk away.” – You can be angry, but never say something that will hurt her feelings. It may remain on her mind forever. – Be strong and continue living up to your dreams. Your happiness and decisions in life shouldn’t depend on someone. – Give yourself time to heal. – When you’re done moving on, don’t be afraid to love again with the things you’ve learned from the past. You sure are a better person now. – Love fiercely. As long as you’re happy, don’t be afraid to take risks. Love without regrets.”
75. “That every ‘I love you’ doesn’t come from the heart, but its just to please the other party.”
76. “To be careful not to be too selfless, because they will use you. They know what’s your weakness.
To really LISTEN to UNDERSTAND.
That even the ugliest guy cheats and doesn’t appreciate.”
77. “That lashing out and being guarded isn’t the solution to hurt feelings. But if they don’t listen to you when you do verbalize your vulnerabilities, throw their shit in a dumpster and break up with them.”
78. “Begging someone to stay is the biggest mistake you will ever make. And you’ll regret it for life. Recognize your anxiety on time and control it. Also let go of your past the moment it’s over. Believe me, it has the ability to fuck your present and future together the longer you hold it. And above all, self-love is the answer to everything.”
79. “It doesn’t matter how much you love him/her. Toxic is toxic and someone better will come along; just be patient, never stop praying. You’ll be able to move on and it will be so much more.”
80. “You can’t make anyone love you no matter what you have money, clothes, etc., if they really love you then they don’t really care about what you have…and if they show ‘love’ when you have a lot but show no love when you have nothing. then that was NEVER love.”
81. “Learning to trust God and asking for His guidance and patience. God knows and has the power to change any bad person to good and build love into anyone’s heart for you at any time. Thus, trusting God’s plans is the lesson I have learned . I know for a fact that if one relationship fails, there is another relationship to be experienced.”
82. “Never ever lose yourself in the midst of loving someone else. Because when they decide to leave, you’re left with nothing and you’ll have to go through all the hard process alone, searching for your lost self.”
83. “Always always one’s instincts never lie…if you feel something isn’t right in a relationship…then definitely it isn’t right…Don’t brush it off…Don’t give excuses.”
84. “Never expect another person to change their ways. Don’t ignore the red flags; get out immediately. Never trust someone who cheats on you, and never trust or get involved with a drug addict or alcoholic.”
85. “Definitely don’t ignore your gut. If you feel like something is wrong, it probably is.”
86. “Don’t forgive a cheater. They were fine doing it once, they will be fine doing it again and you don’t deserve that.”
87. “The flip side of ‘you can’t change someone’ is ‘don’t become something you’re not for somebody else.’ You’re better off holding out for someone who accepts you as-is that you also accept as-is.”
88. “That the advice I heard as a child ‘you have to be nice to everybody or they won’t like you,’ was terrible advice.”
89. “What is meant for you will be yours; learn to let go…there’s a difference between somebody who wants you and somebody who would do anything to keep you.”
90. “We all have our own imperfections. I’m not perfect…my partner isn’t, either…but you shouldn’t find perfection in another person.”
91. “When someone shows you who they are, believe them. Actions will ALWAYS speak louder than words eventually. There will come a time where words won’t mean much.”
92. “Find someone with the same life goals as you. You cannot spend your life waiting for your partner to be ready when they clearly don’t want the same thing, whatever that may be.”
93. “People are who they are. You can’t change them. Even if they wish to change (and do), any trauma in the relationship can bring them back right to the beginning and the actions that they revert to.”
94. “Learn to love yourself first, because time changes us all. People age, grow up, grow apart, and suddenly all you are left with is YOU.”
95. “1. You cannot love someone so much to make them love you back. 2. Some things end because it’s meant to end. 3. You have to put yourself first. 4. Don’t fight a losing battle.”
96. “Never expect someone to love you that way you love them. And if someone truly loves you, he would never make reason to hurt you.”
97. “Never stick around with someone who is willing to treat you so shitty and not feel bad about it. If they’re treating you like shit, they don’t love you or care for you.”
98. “Understand and practice the person’s love language. It is important to continue to date your spouse and surprise them.”
99. “I learned that it’s perfectly OK to love someone but not be with them, which freed me from the immature notion that I HAVE to be with the person I love. And I learned that I will love a lot of people, so losing one just makes way for the next one.”
100. “Nothing lasts forever, no attachments in life with things or other people. Best way is stay in love with yourself no matter what and let the universe lead you.”
112. “He told me that ‘you can’t love anyone if you don’t know how to loved yourself’ and maybe that’s the reason he had to leave.”
113. “Not to overdo things when the friendship is still fresh. Keep your feelings to yourself and not complicate things. Now, a friendship is lost. No relationship at all.”
114. “That even you’ve given everything to that person, if you’re not the person whom he or she wants, you will never be enough. No if’s, no but’s.”
115. “That relationships are designed to fail 90% of the time and people should be whole within themselves before trying to find someone else to fill the void.”
116. “Relationships are not doomed to fail. It is a two-person friendship. Both people have to be prepared to sacrifice things to make it work. And both need to support each other through tough times. Relationships are not for everyone, but they are not designed to fail. They are what the two people in them make it.”
117. “It’s not long how you’ve known each other, but how much commitment you have to sustain. Do not ignore the ‘signs.’ Do not ‘focus’ on the goodness they’ve shown; it’s easy to pretend.”
129. “If you’re ever afraid of how your partner might react to literally anything you say even if that thing is not a big deal, get out.”
130. “If someone wants to walk away let them go, Just because a door closes doesn’t mean another door won’t open.”
131. “Love and compatibility are two equally different things. And a love that is forced is a love that isn’t meant for you.”
132. “Don’t chase. If he’s not into you, walk away.”
133. “Don’t depend your happiness to anyone or anything…happiness must be within in you…Being alone does not mean being lonely.”
134. “Don’t forget who you are while trying to make someone else happy. Things that make you happy matter, too.”
138. “I’ve learned that my worth isn’t dependent on anyone’s view. I’ve accepted that things don’t always go the way we wanted. That forgiving yourself is harder than the person who hurt you. I’ve learned that being free is better than loneliness in a relationship. That you shouldn’t settle for anything less than what you deserve. That validation from the other person isn’t needed. I am worth it. I don’t deserve being cheated on, being just someone’s fling. I’ve learned that letting go is sometimes the best that you do for yourself. That you would eventually move on and forgive that person. And it doesn’t mean that they’ll be cheaters all their lives. That good people do mistakes. And you’ll be happy for them. That pain brings maturity if you only focus on the lessons. That people come and go. Everything changes. And you can’t just take someone with you all the way if they chose not to. That love isn’t worth compromising self-respect. That love doesn’t feel like a competition.”
156. “Never make someone a priority if you’re only an option to them.”
157. “It always hurts to love someone who didn’t love you enough…”
158. “Women are not to be trusted. Especially ones of my generation.”
159. “Always leave some for yourself.”
160. “That you cannot make someone love you…no matter how hard you try!”
161. “Be in love with the person, not your love story.”
162. “You’re not a lesser person for having loved someone who didn’t love you back.”
163. “Don’t let your compassion be confused for apathy or passiveness.”
164. “When you he/she lies to you and promises not to do it again, HE WILL. A couple more times because he knows you’ll forgive him. That’s fucked-up love.”
Damien’s POV: I watched the girl under the bridge, noting how filthy she looked. Even with her lemon blonde hair, she could practically pass for a brunette now, given the amount of dirt and dust caught up in it. Her skin looked bruised, from where I could see, no doubt from fighting with the occasional drunk criminal on the streets. The child huddled into one of the corners of the bridge’s structure, clearly trying to protect herself from the incoming cold of the evening. I wanted to pity her, but at the same time, she simply wouldn’t accept my help. So in a way, it was partially her fault. The blasted girl was practically dictated by her emotions, and it made reasoning with her so much harder than it should be. They ruled over her like tyrants who forced her to turn a blind eye to logic. I mean yes, we’ve had our fair share of fights before, but that was so long ago. Did it even matter anymore? I was only trying to help her. I crept closer to the bridge, careful to not make my presence known just yet. My shoes couldn’t make a sound due to my nimble steps, even though the ground was covered in loose gravel. My red coat fluttered slightly in the breeze, and I clutched against my waist. Granted, bright colors aren’t the best thing to wear when stalking someone, but it was no matter. I planned to make my presence known anyway. A few moments later, there was only a thin stone wall that separated the girl from me. I could easily reach right around it, grasp onto her shoulder, and drag her away, of course, but this wasn’t the time for that. I needed to assess how she had fared on the streets, specifically her mind. I could easily kidnap her, but when a child comes to you willingly, it’s much more satisfying. I could hear her soft breathing, and strangely, I began to hear strange mumbles mixed in with it as well. Were they words? I leaned my head closer against the wall, and affirmed my suspicions. She seemed to be counting, and I could hear the distinct clinking of coins. I smiled, and shook my head. How did she expect to live life off of street change? The girl suddenly became quiet, and my breath hitched. Did she know I was there? I stood as still as a statue, hoping she wouldn’t make the effort to simply crane her neck from behind the wall. If she had, I would be right in plain sight. Though to be honest, the thought didn’t really bother me too much. The only thing ruined would be my spying behind the cold stone wall, and nothing else. She was wasn’t much against me in terms of danger, after all. I let out a breath in a mixture of relief and disappointment as I began to hear her resume her counting the street money she’d no doubt picked off of sidewalks, as if seen many of the homeless do. Yes, I didn’t want to make myself known just yet, but it was also quite a let down. Taking a look behind the wall would be an intelligent thing to do, and if I were to take someone under my wing, I would rather they be of a high intellect. Oh, well. I supposed I’d have to teach her survival skills later. “I know you’re there,” she spoke softly from behind the wall. It seems I may have misjudged her. Thinking it useless to stay in my position any longer, I stood up and walked right around the wall, with my back straight and an aura of regality following my figure. A king is a king no matter where he is, after all. “Go away,” she groaned at me. I grinned internally. Even with all the grueling time on the streets, she still finds the nerve to hate me. It was wonderful energy, but it just wasn’t adjusted in the right direction. “And leave you here, all alone?” I asked. “Josephine, be reasonable. You’re counting on coins to keep you alive. Coins that-“ I glanced at the small amount of change “-are barely enough to do the job.” I saw something that looked like utter despair quickly cloud her grey eyes, but I wasn’t so sure if it really was. It just wasn’t like her. She’d always find a way to retaliate. “I’m fine,” she insisted, the brief flash of sadness in her eyes suddenly gone. “I’m doing great. Fuck off.” I narrowed my eyes at her, annoyed by her attitude. She’d treated someone with good intentions like just another beggar, and I wouldn’t stand for it. It was unreasonable that she only wanted me to leave. Her language rubbed me the wrong way as well, as I’m sure it was intended to do. As an adult far older than her, I could swear her under the table and leave her absolutely speechless. It was unnecessary, though, and it would only push her further away from me. An outcome I certainly didn’t want. “Are you really doing well?” I asked her, raising a brow. “Physically, you look terrible.” “Yeah well, you always look terrible.” “This isn’t the time, Josephine.” She collected the coins off the ground and stuffed them into the side pocket of the mud stained backpack that lay by her side. I lowered my brow, but remained intrigued. Was she actually coming with me? “What are you doing?” I asked her, watching her sling the backpack over he shoulder and stand up. Josephine brushed her filthy blonde hair to the side, and reached into it, seemingly fishing around for something. I stared, but mentally prepared myself for an attack. She could be a very unpredictable girl at times. Then, as if someone hit a switch in her mind, Josephine stopped. She gave me a wary glance, and closed the backpack. I frowned. Not only was she not answering my questions, but she was acting like someone had erased her thoughts on whim. I snatched the backpack from her, not taking silence for an answer. “Hey!” she yelped, trying to yank it back from me. After pushing her away, I stuffed my hand into the backpack and shifted my hands to find whatever she had been searching for. Amidst what felt like papers, plastic bags, and God knows what else, I gripped the plastic handle of a familiar object. Familiar and dangerous, if I wasn’t wrong. I lifted my hand out of the darkness of the backpack, and found myself holding a serrated knife with a five inch blade. It didn’t look like anything special, and resembled an ordinary kitchen knife. Still, her hidden intentions came into light. Apparently, stabbing me was a supposed solution to her problems. Unacceptable. “Is this what you were reaching for?” I asked Josephine, seeing her back away. She hit the wall, and had no more room to move anymore backwards. “You thought a sneak attack would get rid of me?” “I didn’t actually hurt you,” she quickly replied. I could hear her voice quiver in what I hoped was fear. Good. It would teach her a lesson. “Nonetheless, you thought it would actually work.” I chided her. “Even under the impossible circumstances that you would have killed me, what would you do then? You’d have blood on your hands, and have every judge in the country after you. You’d live in jail for the rest of your life, and all for one bad decision. Not to mention, you don’t even know HOW to kill someone properly.” My speech made her skin pale, but confusion spread upon her face at my last sentence. I dropped the backpack to the floor and continued nonetheless. “You don’t know how to go through with it.” I explained, still miffed by her subtle plot against me. Who was she to go against someone like me? “Stabbing people isn’t the easiest way to kill a person, no matter what any book or movie might show you. Whatever you might have watched or read might make murder seem easy, but I assure you, it’s not. You need a strong body and psyche to get through it without damaging yourself. And what about the forensic evidence? You’re just going to get yourself caught? Why won’t you think ahead? Have some planning skills, for God’s sake.” She seemed dazed while listening to my speech, so to bring her attention back, I snapped my fingers. She perked up immediately. “Don’t you dare zone out!” I chided her. I realized that talking wouldn’t do much of anything at this point, and that it was also getting much darker outside. The evening had already arrived, and if I wasted any more time, it would be night before I could get her to leave if I wasted my time. I sighed, and gripped the knife-still in my hand-a little tighter. Josephine’s eyes widened as I advanced towards her. Before she could let out a scream, I clamped a hand over her mouth, pressing her head against the wall. She punched and kicked me, but the pain didn’t register much. For someone who’d lived in the streets for a while, it wasn’t surprising that she was weak. She was all bite and no bark. I raised my fist and dropped the knife to the floor, letting it clatter on the ground. Then, as fast as I could, I swung my fist into her jaw, knocking her out instantly. Immediately, she slumped forward, and I caught her in my arms. I bent down to scoop her other half up by sliding my arm under her legs and lifting them. She seemed so lightweight in my hold, and I didn’t know whether to attribute it to the fact that she was small, or the fact that I was blessed with inhuman strength. In all likelihood, it was probably both. I carried the unconscious Josephine out from under the bridge, and felt a small sense of dismay. It didn’t need to come to this, but the girl just didn’t know what was good for her sometimes. Living alone on the streets would eventually kill her, and its about time sometime helped her make smarter decisions. Josie’s POV I sighed and sat under the bridge, feeling like an idiot as I counted the coins I had picked off of the sidewalk. Who was I kidding? They were just dimes and pennies, and maybe a quarter or two. Honestly, I was just rambling at this point. I didn’t even think they could buy ANYTHING worth its use. I huddled into the corner of the bridge, and brushed my matted hair to the side. I felt the air become colder, and looked out from underneath the bridge, glancing towards the sky. It was getting late, and I supposed I would have to sleep under the bridge again. On the cold, rocky floor. Being homeless sucked. While I was counting, I heard a crunch from behind me, just on the other side of the stone wall. I froze, wondering if I was being watched. The sun was on the other side of the bridge, and anyone and anything cast a really long shadow this time of day. But who could possibly avoid casting a- Oh. Damien. I sighed, and furrowed my eyebrows. I irritatedly picked up the coins and dropped them onto the floor in frustration. It wasn’t enough that I was trying to stay alive, but now I’m being followed by a supernatural stalker? Seriously? C’mon, Damien, it’s the fifth fucking time! “I know you’re there,” I said, not daring to look behind the bridge. My voice came out low and husky, surprising me. I guessed it was because I hadn’t spoken for a long time. My voice was weird like that, I guess. I guess it’ll make me sound scarier. Just as I was about to call him out again, Damien emerged from behind the wall. He had on that stupid red coat thing on too, and it was the color of the fresh blood of all his enemies. I hated that coat. Well actually, I loved that coat. I only hated it because it belonged to him. HE, however, needed to leave. I didn’t feel like dealing with him. “Go away,” I told him, tired of his existence already. Why couldn’t the man just take a hint? “And leave you all alone?” Damien responded, further annoying me. “Josephine, be reasonable.” Why does he call me by my full name? It’s JOSIE, geez. “You’re counting on coins to keep you alive,” he continued. “Coins that are barely enough to do the job.” I felt terrible when he finished those words. I mean, he was right. What he didn’t know was that I wasn’t JUST picking up money off the streets. I had actually been mugging people for extra cash that I had stuffed in my backpack, but HE didn’t even HAVE to know that to be right. I knew I couldn’t keep this lifestyle up anymore. Well, maybe just a little longer. “I’m fine.” I shot back. “I’m doing great. Fuck off.” Damien gave me a creepy look, and I began to regret what I just said. I didn’t know how he would react to cussing, but I hoped he didn’t blow up on me. Some adults were just like that, unfortunately. “Are you really doing well?” he asked. I stared at him. He didn’t explode on me? “Physically, you look terrible,” he added. I rolled my eyes internally. The man walking around in the big, red, clown looking jacket (that I secretly liked) had the nerve to tell me that I looked bad? Really? I looked him right in his yellow eyes, past the pitch black locks that framed his face. “Yeah, well, you always look terrible,” I weakly insulted. It came out much better in my head, but not so well out loud, apparently. “This isn’t the time, Josephine,” Damien replied seriously. I knew this wasn’t the time for any of my lame comebacks, so I resolved to knock him out instead. Then, I realized that just making him blackout would be a lot tougher than I thought. Besides, his species didn’t exactly stay unconscious for long. Just barely a few minutes, from what I know. I decided to make his blood flow just enough to disorient him. It was the least I could do, I supposed. I scooped the coins up and put them in my backpack pocket. Then I slipped my arm under the it to lift it while standing up myself. “What are you doing?” Damien asked. I ignored him. I just had to get rid of him for now. I stuck my hand in my backpack and fished around for my knife, the knife I usually used on the people I mugged. It would be quick and easy. It- Wait. I pursed my lips, and quit trying to reach for the knife. I was tired and weak because even mugging didn’t support me enough. What was I thinking, trying to attack someone much stronger than I was. I wasn’t even being subtle about it! I grimaced and zipped the backpack up, attributing my temporary loss of sanity to my ever growing hunger and thirst. I prepared to turn tail and escape. It was my best option, really. Suddenly, Damien stole my backpack away from me. “Hey!” I yelled instinctively. I tried to grab it back, but he pushed my to the floor. I landed hard, and the gravel dug into my skin. I winced at the pain, but found myself too weak to jump back quickly. Instead, I staggered to my feet. To my horror, he had found the knife. “Is this what you were looking for?” Damien asked me. I heard the threatening edge in his voice, and began to back away. I definitely wasn’t going near him if he had a knife. Though, to be honest, his words could cut a lot more than any knife could. “You thought a sneak attack would get rid of me?” he asked in a way I assumed was rhetorically. My back hit the wall, the wall I completely forgot about. Fear does does crazy things to a person, including making people say the stupidly obvious words that were about to spill out of my mouth. “I didn’t actually hurt you,” I argued in panic. I mentally slapped myself. “Nonetheless, you thought it would actually work.” he continued, clearly angry at me. “Even under the impossible circumstances that you would have killed me, what would you do then?” I had no idea. “You’d have blood on your hands, and have every judge in the country after you. You’d live in jail for the rest of your life, and all for one bad decision. Not to mention, you don’t even know HOW to kill someone properly.” I narrowed my eyes in confusion. Was he criticizing me because I COULDN’T kill? What? “You don’t know how to go through with it.” Damien lectured. “Stabbing people....” He trailed off, but I wasn’t listening. I needed to figure out how to escape. Running to the left and right obviously wouldn’t work because he’d catch up to me faster than I could squeal, so what else. I couldn’t make him bleed out anymore, so what else? It’s not like I could walk through walls. He snapped his fingers, making me jerk my head up. “Don’t you dare zone out!” Damien snapped, interrupting my thoughts. Suddenly, he glanced outside. Why he decided to stare at the sky randomly, I wouldn’t know. And whatever he was smoking, I wanted some. Out of nowhere, he lunged at me. What happened to just talking? I panicked again as he grabbed my head and held it in place against the wall. It wasn’t enough to crush my bones, but it still hurt. With no other option, I wildly attacked him, slamming my fist and feet against his body. My heart rate sped up in terror as I realized that it wasn’t working, and that he began to hold the knife up in the air. It quivered menacingly in his grasp. I couldn’t scream, but if I could, I guarantee it would be heard from across town. My knees shook as my fear increased, and I heard the knife drop to the ground. Then, I felt his fish smash into my jaw. The world quickly faded away.
