“1950s horror movies contrast radically with their 1940s predecessors. understandably – they were reflecting a whole new world. audiences wanted stories that connected directly to their lives, to the ever-expanding technology in their homes and workplaces. they also wanted horror movies that played to their fears – stoked by politicians – of the shadows that lay beyond their immediate, personal experience of the shiny american dream (applies to some of these movies).”

the original 1955 diabolique is soooo fuckass and boring. the movie is simply too long. the remake follows the original almost beat by beat but it's 10 minutes shorter and the two leads have fantastic chemistry. toxic yuri makes everything better. and also the scene of them killing the husband is better in the remake because they struggle more. and also the mistress doesn't seem to love the husband at all in the remake. to me it seems just like she had very conflicting feelings about the wife and really really wanted to hit that
