It has been a week or two since I've started to rewatch the series 'Medici: Masters of Florence'. Every time I start a new period show or rewatch an old one, I feel the need to go through the internet and research the characters of the show. I already downloaded a few books about them. I believe I will make a few threads/posts around the Medici's, especially about my favorites, like Lorenzo the Magnificent💞 and his brother Giuliano de' Medici💔.

If the multiverse really exists, I hope that Giuliano survived the Pazzi conspiracy.

The Crowley/Leonardo da Vinci fic idea has expanded into an actual plot, sort of, hung around the conspiracy to assassinate Lorenzo de Medici (Easter Sunday, April 26, 1478).

I’m diving into in April Blood: Florence and the Plot Against the Medici by Lauro Martines, concurrently with what I was already reading, Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson.

Y’all, if I pull this off, the endnotes are going to be unreal. There will be so much excited information.

I have actually outlined a plot for the first time in my life. Well, since last September, when I started writing fanfiction.

It isn’t much of a plot, mind you. But just the fact that I outlined it at all.

Also, like, the Medicis have a whole different interest level to them now that I recognize some of the Discworld source material. There’s a reason Vetinari is a pun on Medici. And We Can Rule You Wholesale could very easily have been the anthem of the Republic of Florence under the Medici, who were bankers and really did own everyone.

Diana (Ghisi) Stolz - Florentine born. Arranged wife of Werner Stolz. Diana is quite awkward and blunt when first knowing her. She likes to draw in her free time. (Name is work in progress)

Relationship status: Not really romantically inclined with each other but they respect and hold high regard for one another.

Show don’t tell: Diana seems to struggle fitting in with Tassing but in later acts grew to find her “calling” per se. Your actions towards Werner can affect the outcome of Diana in Act III.

First interaction:

[Scene: Stolz house interior, Diana is folding sheets by the beds] D: “So you’re the artist that broke my husband’s nose?” [Andreas is given a choice of dialogue options, but no matter what the reply will be, it's an introduction and apology] [Diana surprisingly smiles] D: “It’s fine. Reminded me of what I’ve did when I first met him.” A: ”…” A: “I…better go now.” D: ”…” D: “Oh. Ok. Until later.” A: “Until Later, Mrs. Stolz [x]”

What you don’t see: Diana develops an unlikely friendship with Brother Florian. They actually knew each other lightly before the events of Pentiment, since he visits Tassing before for medical help. If you’ve head butted Werner during the inspection scene, Werner will tell on the Abbott, thus resulting Brother Florian being punished by having no more access to the library books (If I remember correctly on my last gameplay, I forgot if Claus giving him the Italian book was ever mentioned). From time to time, Diana would drop by a book to the infirmary for him to read. If given the opportunity, she would come inside to teach him Italian. As an informal apology from Werner’s unnecessary insults earlier she stated.

This damaged but evocative portrait has been identified as the widow of the artist's brother, who was a goldsmith. This would explain why she is dressed in black and holds a ring. The juniper bush (ginepro) behind her could refer to her name, Ginevra di Giovanni di Niccolò. The picture was inspired by Leonardo's portrait of Ginevra de' Benci in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.

Desmond/Claudia and Ezio's/Auditore family reaction?

The Desmond gets reborn as Claudia Auditore idea that started this.

Giovanni dotes on her because she’s their only daughter. He does think that the reason why Desmond acts like man is because she’s surrounded by boys. He loves her and wants to support her but, at the same time, he was also raised in thinking that what’s best for women are the usual ‘good husband, blah blah blah’ so their relationship is a bit strained.

To Giovanni, Desmond will always be his little girl and that’s why, even when she became an Assassin, he still tries to protect her by getting Federico and Ezio to keep an eye on her.

There was talk of marrying her to one of Lorenzo’s sons but Desmond looked so disgusted that Giovanni never brought it up again.

Maria is Desmond’s main enabler but she’s also the stricter of the two. She reminds Desmond that she needs to learn proper etiquette and the proper way to behave as a noblewoman even if it’s a lie because “Sometimes, you must hide how strong you are to get what you want.”

Maria is the reason why Desmond met Leonardo and they became BFFs early on.

If you want to add ezileo: Desmond is definitely playing matchmaker for the two.

Mario would hear about his niece and would keep sending swords and other weaponry just to fuck with his brother.

Desmond always ends up taking them all and hiding them anyway just 'in case'.

Federico likes to tease her but he’s also the one to worry the most for her because she’s his baby sister!

Federico sometimes uses his allowance to buy her male clothes that actually fit her so she doesn’t have to use his and Ezio’s old clothes.

Ezio knows he’s Desmond’s favorite brother and proud of it.

He keeps an eye on Desmond since they were children because he’s the one who usually see Desmond cry as a child (mostly it’s Desmond’s child body not being able to stop itself from finally letting out years of repressed pain and sadness over what has happened to him)

Ezio and Desmond are thick as thieves and they’re both ready to throw down for each other, making Federico the responsible sibling much to his tired acceptance.

Petruccio and Desmond are close as well because they don’t have any friends.

They like playing board games whenever Desmond isn’t allowed to go out or doesn’t want to go out (which happens a lot when they were children).

Desmond is also the reason why Petruccio started a feather collection in this verse. Desmond just gave it to him out of habit and Petruccio was confused at first but he later thinks of them as a way for Desmond (and the rest of his family who started giving him as well) to share what he had seen outside.

badly worded thoughts about so called tyrannicides during Renaissance (I am specifically looking at late 15th century) after a conversation with a professor first of all, what even is a tyrant? because it’s a concept that changed through time. is a tyrant someone who rules without legitimacy? (but what even is legitimacy? a made-up thing to be used in one’s favour and against one’s enemies?) is a tyrant someone who rules with violence? (but are all lords and politicians tyrants then? at a time when violence is necessarily tied to political power?) second of all, tyrannicide has a narrative associated to it, that narrative is to be taken into consideration when dealing with accounts of political assassinations— the parallelisms between Lorenzo de’ Medici and Cesare have been already spoken about but, if we take someone who did die in a congiura, such as Galeazzo Maria Sforza, it becomes more evident. He’s tyrannical. Where? All accounts of qualities which would justify his being a tyrant tend to come from people close to Ludovico’s later court (the Ludovico that was probably involved in the assassination, yes, the Ludovico that was very interest in delegitimising his brother’s rule to legitimise his own). Most speak of qualities which wouldn’t be amiss on any other lord of the time (temperamental? didn’t know that was a determining factor for being a tyrant—) or focus heavily on his “lust”. His father had much much more illegitimate children than him. His brother Ludovico had Leonardo da Vinci mostly paint his many lovers while in Milano. But Galeazzo’s “lust” is a sign of his tyrannical nature. Never mind it is unlikely he did lay with Lampugnani’s wife because he was head over heels for Lucia Marliani at the time and that the “taking” of another man’s wife is a trope in tyrannicides (looking at Tarquinius Superbus). anyway, I dunno, bitter history student grumbling over, here’s your daily reminder to contextualise your sources and never take them at face value
