January 1967. I would be remiss if I neglected to point out that the other thing that happens in Catwoman's triumphant Silver Age return in SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND #70–71 is that she uses the magic wand of Circe (which she just has for some reason — I guess she stole it at some point) to transform Superman into a super-cat (but not Streaky the Super-Cat). Unfortunately, the wand then runs out of magical juice before he can be restored to normal, so he spends a lot of time purring on Lois's lap and doing super-cat feats.

WC: ACTION COMICS #354
This issue of ACTION COMICS is noteworthy in that it contains one of the first Superman story written by Cary Bates, who would go on to become a regular contributor to the Man of Steel’s adventures in the 1970s. Bates broke into the field by submitting ideas for catchy cover images to editors such as Julie Schwartz and ACTION’s Mort Weisinger. At this time, a grabber of a cover is what sold the…

November to December 1966. Catwoman had been absent from the comics for years when the BATMAN TV show revived her in 1966. Her first actual comic book appearance in 12 years came not in BATMAN or DETECTIVE COMICS, but in SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND LOIS LANE #70–71, where Selina kidnaps Lois, hypnotizes her, and makes her into a catgirl. Much to think about!

WC: ACTION COMICS #325
Editor Mort Weisinger was certainly putting himself on the line with the cover copy on this next issue of ACTION COMICS, #325. “Best Superman Story of the Year!” he cries, in the manner that was being used by rival Stan Lee. This is maybe a strange thing to say on a cover that features not the Man of Steel in some critical situation or facing an insolvable dilemma, but rather his younger self…
