Photography Harelbeke Construction Works and Leie

There are some construction works going on in Harelbeke. I decided to capture the liminal beauty of the empty, abandoned buildings in the distance, before it all goes away. Of course, I also took some pictures of the environment as well.

Momenteel zijn er enkele werken bezig in Harelbeke. Ik besloot de liminale schoonheid van deze lege, verlaten gebouwen in de verte vast te leggen, voordat het allemaal verdwijnt. Natuurlijk heb ik ook wat foto's van de omgeving gemaakt.

Voorrechten die alleen maar de welvaart ten goede komen. De Vlaamse steden krijgen hun eigen besturen zoals dat eerder al gebeurde in Brugge. Deurle mooiste dorp van Vlaanderen

Ik ben net terug van een culinaire en oenologische tour door Frankrijk, het land waar croissants het ontbijt regeren en de wijn vloeit alsof het water is. Maar vanmorgen, terug in het pittoreske Deurle, had ik het gevoel alsof ik een exclusieve all-access pas had bemachtigd tot het middelpunt van een impressionistisch meesterwerk. En nee, niet zo’n dramatisch Van Gogh-scenario waar je een oor moet missen om het te waarderen, maar iets à la Monet. Denk minder aan waterlelies en meer aan een vredig landschap vol graan, wilde bloemen en planten die dansen in de wind. Ik zweer het je, het was net een levende ansichtkaart!

Want het is pas als je even uit Deurle weg bent geweest, dat je weer beseft hoe prachtig ons dorp eigenlijk is. Dus op deze stralende zondagmorgen, dag van de nationale feestdag, nam ik bij het vroege ochtendgloren de epische beslissing om mijn eigen dorp te herontdekken, alsof ik een volleerde toerist was. Ja hoor, gewapend met een rugzak vol clichés en een overdosis enthousiasme die zelfs een hyperactieve puppy jaloers zou maken.

Ik zette mijn zonnebril op – je weet wel, die ik speciaal bewaar voor momenten van zelfreflectie en epische queesten – en voelde me meteen als een undercover beroemdheid die zijn eigen hometown inspecteerde. De enige andere enkeling die ook zo vroeg op straat liep keek me aan alsof ik de zoveelste verdwaalde toerist was, wat, eerlijk gezegd, behoorlijk verfrissend was. Het gaf me een excuus om in slow motion te lopen, alsof ik in een dramatische film zat, en overal ‘oooh’ en ‘aaah’ bij te zeggen. Je had zijn gezicht moeten zien, vol ongeloof en misschien een vleugje medelijden, maar hé, het leven is te kort om serieus te zijn!

Terwijl ik daar wandelde, werd ik plotsklaps getroffen door een verbluffende openbaring: hoe spectaculair ons groene dorp eigenlijk is. Ja, je leest het goed, spectaculair! En die oevers aan onze Leie! Met koeien die de lokale gossip uitwisselen, een duif die met een tak als bouwmarkt-souvenir voorbij fladdert om een airbnb voor haar ei op te zetten, een vos die de hele nacht heeft lopen tinderen, en ganzen die opspringen alsof ze net de lotto hebben gewonnen omdat een haas besloot 'kiekeboe' te spelen vanachter een struik. En dan hebben we het nog niet eens over de Sint-Aldegondiskerk die daar staat te schitteren alsof ze net een makeover heeft gehad. Misschien ben ik een beetje bevooroordeeld, maar hoe kun je niet in lyrische verzen uitbarsten als je ziet hoe de Leie zich als een dichterlijke boa constrictor door het landschap slingert? Die rivier is praktisch een spa-resort, zonder de geur van eucalyptus en de zweverige muziek die je uit je zen haalt.

Niet verwonderlijk dat kunstenaars, van schilders tot dichters, zich als motten tot een vlam voelden aangetrokken tot deze plek. Deurle is als dat ene sprookjesdorp waar je altijd over hebt gelezen, maar dan zonder de draken en prinsessen in nood. Cyriel Buysse himself, jawel, struikelde over zijn eigen geluk om hier in de buurt te mogen wonen. Je kunt nog bijna horen hoe hij zijn pen vasthield, verblind door de schoonheid van de natuur, krabbelend aan zijn meesterwerken.

Nu, laten we eerlijk zijn, Deurle is niet zomaar een dorp, het is een levend museum van rust en romantiek—zo idyllisch dat zelfs de kippen hier flirterig kakelen in perfecte harmonie. De bloemenwinkel van de lieftallige Ruth in de Dorpstraat kent niet alleen je naam, maar onthoudt ook je favoriete bloemen en je slechtste liefdesverdriet. De postbode fluit een deuntje terwijl hij de brieven bezorgt, waarschijnlijk de enige persoon die nog vrolijker wordt van jouw rekeningen dan jijzelf.

Deurle, ooit verkozen tot het mooiste dorp van Oost-Vlaanderen, is pittoresk en groen, met een verleden zo rijk dat zelfs de lokale geschiedenisboeken er meerdere volumes over klagen. Het dorp heeft zoveel charme dat zelfs de lokale straatkatten aristocratische manieren hebben aangenomen en beleefd knikken als je voorbij loopt. In Deurle is elke dag een uitnodiging voor een wandeling door een ansichtkaart.

Dus, als je van plan bent om even in Deurle te togen, doe het dan niet voor de geschiedenislessen zonder profeet, kunst die je ook niet snapt als iemand het uitlegt, of omdat je hond een bordje omhoog hield met "Ik heb frisse lucht nodig" – Deurle is gewoon je go-to plek. Nog nooit van gehoord? Nou, dan heb je iets gemist waarvan je niet eens wist dat je het kon missen. Maar geen paniek, de Deurlense Leie staat al met open armen te wachten, klaar om je te betoveren met haar charmes. En terwijl jij je ogen uitkijkt, sta ik, de grijnzende local, in de schaduw toe te kijken, stiekem trots dat ik dit kleine paradijs al lang geleden heb ontdekt.

Short analysis of Muu's honeybee appearance in her MV

First of all, forgive me if some of the ideas presented were already discussed in the past. I, for one, haven't seen much discussion around this topic so I decided to bring this up!

The dresses that the girls wear in the bee form, seem to be made from flower petals. After some research, I have come to the conclusion that Muu's dress might be made from one of the petals of a yellow Iris (Iris pseudacorus).

Tracing back through history, the Yellow Iris has been a royal favorite. It's been woven into the very fabric of empires, from the fleurs-de-lis in French monarchy to the ornate decorations in Ancient Egyptian palaces. This flower isn't just a pretty face; it's a historical heavyweight with a knack for elegance and power.

Before going further, about the fleurs-de-lis:

It’s even debated whether the symbol is actually a lily, the flower the emblem is named after, or an iris, which more closely resembles the design and typical yellow color. One 18th-century historian even speculated that the name instead comes from the river Leie, where yellow irises are common and the Franks once lived. Another theory connecting the fleur-de-lis with an iris comes from the German word for a yellow iris in the Middle Ages—either “liesch” or “lies.”

With each use, the fleur-de-lis holds unique symbolism. In a religious context, it may denote purity. French monarchs used the symbol to denote the divine right to rule.

It's no wonder that Fleur De Lis has a connection with Muu's character, considering that she is half french, and is portrayed in the MV as the Queen Bee, such the association with royalty.

Moreover, Fleur de lis' sturdy stem represents the ever-present God who is our strength and our source of sustenance.

"God gave me everything, everything is as I wish"

Also, yellow irises are known for denoting strong bonds and warmth, ideal for demonstrating devoted friendship and happiness. Basically, it is a constant reminder of one of Muu's most beloved wishes to have a deep connection with her friends.

The other girls seem to wear, if we follow the same pattern, white irises' petals.

Something that was already noted is that the longer the dresses are, the closer the girls that wear them are to Muu. This idea is also reinforced by the hair color.

In this picture it can be clearly seen that the three girls who were shown bullying Muu in the first MV, and were the closest to her, have brighter hair.

Honey bees are most attracted to blue, purple, violet, white and yellow. Considering that they themselves are honey bees, this may symbolize the "likeness" or the "popularity" these classmates have in school.

The hair color that they have in their bee form is more exaggerated than the one in real life. It's a more saturated and brighter version, but it still resembles the original one.

The other classmates who are not as close to Muu, have their natural hair color, which looks dull compared to Muu and her friends. Like their presence is deemed unimportant, they fade/ disappear next to Muu's friend group.

However, Muu is an exception. Why bother drawing her hair purple? It has no ties with her strawberry blonde hair in real life.

I kept asking myself this question, until I found this information:

"But it seems that bees, especially honeybees, are born attracted to the colour purple. Which is really clever of them, as flowers in the violet-blue range produce the highest volumes of nectar."

Muu is the Queen Bee, having purple hair she attracts all of her subjects to be around her. It's like she is the embodiment of beauty even in her bee form, having traits which can be easily envied.

History of Kortrijk Linen

Kortrijk is a small city of approximately 75,000 people, located in the West Flanders province of northwestern Belgium.

The Leie River, which flows through the center of the city, has always played an essential role in Kortrijk’s linen industry. The two medieval towers flanking the bridge over the Leie are symbols of the city’s rich historical heritage.

Kortrijk City Hall, another local landmark, has stained glass windows depicting Kortrijk’s coat of arms.

In 2014 the Vlas Museum, which opened in 1982 in Kortrijk, was moved to a new space on the Leie river and renamed Texture.The museum has been remade as a space where visitors learn about flax and linen with all the five senses.

From flax cultivation to the final linen product, the museum explains the entire production process and its industrial history, as well as the special characteristics, color, and design of linen from the Kortrijk area with interactive exhibitions that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike.
