a/n: alright i could have probably thought of a million more but it was literally 1am when i wrote this and i was tired lol. also i will admit that was me fulling self projecting on the info dumping about movies part and wanting to text someone at an ungodly hour, but in my defense i do genuinely think benny would do those things as well. also this was requested by an irl friend of mine who mentioned friends to lovers after i finished this so look out for that coming soon! also this is my first writing related thing i’ve posted on this blog in like 2 years!!

benny absolutely loves video games and will want to play a few with you even if you don’t like video games

which if you’re with him there a good chance you love them too

but if you don’t you will most likely start liking them even just a bit because he makes them fun

getting to spent time with him and watch him do something he loves makes it special

it also can be really funny

can guarantee at least once he’d say “watch this babe” or “this ones for you” and immediately fail/die

this is also something that definitely happens in the outside world with him trying to throw something away or something

pure of heart, dumb of ass

also i don’t know shit about video games so i cannot go into anymore detail then this lol

is 100% down with spontaneous movie nights whether that be binge watching movies at home or going to the theater

if it’s a movie he’s obsessed with but you’ve never seen he will be trying his hardest not to info dump and potentially spoil the whole thing

but if it’s a movie he knows you have seen he is more than willing to explain every single fact about it he knows

“did you know that while filming this bit they had film it completely in reverse to make it look like that?? insane right!?”

speaking of movies if it’s a horror/scary movie you can bet he will try to act all tough and not scared before it starts

even if you already know how much of a scaredy cat he is he will try to play it off

but the second the first jumpscare happens there will be popcorn flying everywhere

he is no longer allowed to hold the bowl

you’re still finding popcorn in the couch

he will still continue to pretend that he’s not scared despite shaking like a scared chihuahua

you will have to be the one to grab onto him

which then leads to him hiding his face into your neck or behind you

he still refuses to let you turn it off even if you insist it’s okay

there is a part of you that feels bad but also a part that thinks it’s so funny

your contact names in each others phones are han solo and princess leia

the only suggestions i will take on this is that yours is han and his is leia

will take you to every convention within driving distance

if the convention if for some game/show/movie you don’t know be prepared for a whole powerpoint presentation or a weekend of binge watching whatever media it is

“babe this is way more important and interesting than anything school can teach”

you both will be going all out costume wise every convention

i can totally see you guys going in couple costumes or like hero and villain

if the latter you two take turns on who gets to be the villain or hero

if you are with benny there is no way you can be a halloween hater

he can do freaking magic, of course it’s his favorite holiday!!

this also can follow what i said for conventions with the costumes

at some point there is a competition on who can get the most candy

if he loses, he will say that the candy was just too hard to resist, and he had to eat just one piece that turned into him eating many pieces

this is a true fact whether he loses or not

side note if you can go a whole night of trick or treating without eating a single piece of candy while doing so i don’t believe you

Im sitting here writing fixit fic and i the film nerd in me finally put together the prblm of s1 vs 2. Strictly a media literacy thing, and its gonna sound insane:

S1 was the muppets. Sure u cared about kermit and piggy, but you also cared about fozzie and the swedish chef and and and. While it had some save the cat beats (iyky) its hard to make a piece of film/tv that doesnt. Thats been the formula since birth of a nation.

You could say it had some if u will star wars og trilogy vibes (ive never seen them so this is by osmosis only)…but like if u made luke and han fall in love not leia and han.

What made it sing was the drama didnt outweigh the comedy and it had moments just to be silly. They slotted nicely with the drama.

S2 is star wars og trilogy instead which is obviously a heavier show/s than any muppet shit. Muppets have some dark times (opening of any of their films will show u that) but the silliness and camaraderie outweigh.

Star wars u got camaraderie but not much silly. Its more action and drama. And david jenkins is the perfect age to have those films shape his whole being (whether hes a fan or not). Instead of kermit meeting luke (yoda was fozzie bear guys) you have almost a shot for shot remake just w muppets instead. The group/family is less important, its now about Luke and Han (and leia i guess). There were various bad guys in the films but the father figure was obvs darth vader (father of luke and leia). He and yoda both figure in thru most of the films. Yoda appears as a sort of spirit guide and while not the literal father hes who luke thinks of in that vain.

So basically you have Izzy shoehorned into a Yoda/darth Vader slot when in s1 he maybe at best was weakly some of their characteristics. Vader’s hate of dumb rebels who actually win in the end, vader wanting to stick to how its been death star and all that shit. But he really fits neither til we get Stede’s taught him everything he knows line. Now izzy is ed’s mentor, when in no way or form was that ever shown before. David goes almost beat for beat from there incl killing Izzy, stealing Han’s ‘i know’ to love u line.

It went from something quite unique especially today in corporate ai generated bs media to yet another white dude remaking star wars out of his childhood fantasies. Extra rich given taika was to direct a star wars and maybe still will but seems to have even less fandom for it than i (i love me some carrie fisher thank you).

Thats why it was such a whiplash

Speak your Heart | Cassian Andor x Reader (Oneshot)

A/N: Hey, look, it's another "not exactly unrequited love, they're just idiots" fic starring our favorite grumpy captain.

May the fourth be with you!

Summary: You may or may not have a crush on your longtime friend, Cassian, but he thinks that you may or may not have a crush on his friend Bodhi. It's up to your friends to quickly fix that.

When you laugh so hard, you would laugh with your whole body, clutching at your stomach or rubbing your cheeks when they grew sore. Your laugh was the most amazing sound Cassian had ever heard. It wasn’t a soft melodious sound, but it was a genuine, wholehearted laugh that would make anyone smile and join in. But, right now, he hated it. If it was caused by Jyn, he would have been fine. He knew you enjoyed her sarcastic humor and banter. No, it was caused by his other best friend. The quiet pilot that was always full of surprises.

You finally regained your breath and slapped the pilot’s shoulder. “Bodhi, Bodhi, tell them about the time you had to lead a small team of new recruits,” you said.

Bodhi rolled his eyes. “Oh, that one. So, there was this new guy who was acting all big, bragging about his knowledge of ships and how he fought numerous stormtroopers on his own. Long story short, he almost caught one of the Skippers on fire from his failed attempt of hot-hiring it and when the troopers came, he screamed and flung his blaster across the docks.”

“We had to go and save him,” you added. “Bodhi made it so we were able to get the cargo and save the guy all in one piece. He can think of plans so quickly under pressure. I don’t know how he does it.”

Bodhi ducked his head and laughed. “Well, I had an idea of how stormtroopers think. It wasn’t too difficult. The way they acted, it seemed like they were also new recruits, so it wasn’t too hard to take care of them.”

“Better watch out, (Y/n). If Bodhi ends up being full himself with all those compliments you’re stuffing him, then Cassian will have another handful to deal with,” Jyn said.

“Yeah, the other being you, of course,” Bodhi shot back. “I don’t think I’ll ever be like that, though.”

Jyn smirked. “But, can you even imagine the two of us ganging up on Cassian like that?”

He nodded with a wide smile. “He’d go insane. Probably abandon us on the nearest moon.”

“Guys,” you said, shaking your head, “that would mean I’d never hear the end of it about you two.”

Jyn wrapped her arm around your shoulder. “That’s right. Cassian tells you everything, doesn’t he?” She exchanged a knowing look with Bodhi.

“Not everything,” you muttered, crossing your arms as you thought about the numerous times where Cassian would avoid you for no reason when he had been telling you almost everything about the missions he had in the past and the ones he had recently come back from. You weren’t sure when your friendship with him had reached the point where the two of you would exchange stories late at night before finally attempting sleep, but it felt effortless.

You sighed, leaning your back against Bodhi as he carried off his conversation with Jyn and the others. There were times where you’d slip deep in thought and it occurred often enough that your friends learned to let you be unless they knew you were in a bad mood prior to it. Your eyes drifted away from the group, looking around the canteen nonchalantly.

All those faces, new and seasoned. The war never cared which ones they were, it just takes. Many would have sworn off on sentimental attachments and at one point, you did, too. That is, until you met Cassian and Kaytwo. You rarely saw them apart and it wasn’t until you were assigned to assist them as their technician did you have any close contact with either of them. Many spoke about the stoic spy who always got the job done, no matter the cost.

Cassian Andor. A man who had been in the fight since he was a child. You thought that a man like him wouldn’t want to get close to anyone unless they were solely a means to an end. So, when you saw Cassian panic after K-2SO got shot and damaged his arm and wiring, you were shocked to say the least. You had to help him drag the droid back to the U-Wing and try to stabilize him with the resources you had on hand while Cassian powered up the ship and flew away from danger. He had let out a sigh of relief when you told him that Kaytwo would be fine and repairable once the three of you reach base. Since then, you realized that living beings always end up getting attached to something or someone no matter how hard they tried.

Your eyes ended up landing on the very captain that occupied your thoughts more than half the time. Without realizing it, a smile slowly spread across your face. You were definitely attached to someone, alright.

Bodhi nudged your back and smiled. “Go talk to him.”

You turned your head to Bodhi and shook it. “I don’t know. Last time I did, he stormed off. I don’t know why, though. Maybe it was something I said, but I’m not sure what would have caused him to do that.”

Cassian froze as you looked at him with a smile. His heart began to beat fast as he thought of how to respond. But when he decided to settle for a smile, you turned your head away and towards Bodhi whose face was inches from yours.

“You should go talk to them, you know,” Kaytwo said. “There’s a ninety-five percent chance that you are misinterpreting (Y/n)’s and Bodhi’s relationship.”

“And what is that five percent?”

“That misinterpretation percentage used to be much higher, but given how long you want to prolong your lovesick yearning, that percentage would only decrease with time.”

Cassian grunted at this, walking away from the droid and out of the canteen. “And what are the odds of this biting us in the ass in the future?”

“Depending on what you choose.”

“I don’t have time for this. There’s a meeting in half an hour. Are you going or not?”

“Of course I am, Cassian. Your mind will be too preoccupied to pay any attention. But, remember what I said-”

“Let's start going.”

You stood up just as Cassian and Kaytwo began to walk out of the canteen. There was a sour expression on Cassian’s face as he spoke to Kaytwo, making you sink back down in your seat. “He’s busy,” you muttered.

Bodhi glanced over his shoulder then shook his head. “But that’s just how Cassian looks most of the time.”

“I don’t want to bother him.” You swung your legs around so you were facing everyone again.

“I don’t think he’d ever mind if it was you.”

“Bodhi’s right, (Y/n). Maybe you can try when his meeting’s done,” Jyn said.

You sighed. “Alright.”

The Rogue One crew was being sent off to another mission off planet for who knows how long. It was risky as it was within enemy lines near a major Imperial facility. You knew that they were fully capable individuals and together they were unstoppable, but you couldn’t help but worry whenever your friends left the tarmac of the base.

Maybe you should tell him before he leaves. Everyone’s been telling you to make the first move, since Cassian wasn’t budging any time soon. You were scared of the rejection, of him putting up and fortifying the walls around himself, and you would be losing a really good friend.

You had waited for Cassian outside of the meeting room. It took longer than you expected, but as soon as it ended, you jumped up from the crates and rushed over. Cassian halted as soon as he saw you. As you stepped towards him, he looked up at Kaytwo, then brushed past you. Your eyes widened as you watched him leave.

“I would tell you what was wrong, but Cassian told me not to,” Kaytwo said, awkwardly patting your head before strolling over to where Cassian had gone.

You collapsed on Jyn’s cot as soon as you entered her quarters, wondering why he was suddenly acting this way towards you. Jyn continued to talk about the time she was able to meet Princess Leia and how they had to rescue themselves when they were separated by the crew. You hummed along to show that you were listening, absentmindedly helping her pack as she threw clothes and gear onto the cot.

A heavy piece of cloth was thrown at your face, your surroundings falling into darkness. You pulled the jacket off and saw Jyn standing in front of you with hands on her hips. She raised an eyebrow, snatching the jacket from you and shoving it into her pack.

“We’re leaving tonight, but Cassian typically gets to the U-Wing an hour before us,” Jyn hinted.

“So… should I go now or…”

She sighed in frustration. “Run!”

“Okay, okay!” you shouted as she chased you out of her quarters with a blaster.

You weaved past tired pilots and mechanics as they retired for the night, only a few bothered to spare you a glance before yawning and continuing on to their respective quarters. There was a lamp shining next to the U-Wing where Cassian was loading the ship and checking to see if he had everything for the mission. Kaytwo took care of the heavy load and went to check on the ship’s condition.

“Cassian!” you called out.

His head shot up, a series of emotions flashing across his face when he realized that it was you. He was always happy to see you, but he wasn’t sure that you’d be friendly with him still after he had been giving you the cold shoulder lately. He set down his datapad and crossed his arms as you skidded to a stop right in front of him.

“You should be asleep. I heard that they had given you a pile of projects to work on this week,” he said.

His eyes widened as you gripped his shoulders and pulled him away from the U-Wing. Kaytwo popped his head out of the ship and shook it before going back to his tasks. You found an area behind stacks of crates where the two of you could be alone. You took a moment to catch your breath before opening your mouth for the rushed speech you had made in your head on your way to reach him.

“I’ll look after Bodhi if that’s what you’re worried about,” he said.

“What? No! I’m not worried about him. Well, I am. I’m always worried about you guys. Why would you say that all of a sudden?”

His eyes looked everywhere but you, your hands slipping from his shoulders as he stepped back. “If that’s not what you ran here for, then hurry it up. We’ve got a mission to go to soon.”

So all that gossiping that Chirrut and Baze had been doing with the others were true. Cassian was jealous. Apparently, he thought that you had feelings for Bodhi instead. “You know, I always thought that you were one of the smartest people I know. I guess I was wrong.”

He narrowed his eyes. “What-”

“Captain Cassian Andor, the leader of Rogue One, the very team that helped steal the Death Star blueprints, the spy who could get intel out of anyone, yet he can’t tell whether his friend is entirely in love with him.”

It took an extremely long and grueling long minute for that information to process, but he wasn’t sure if he was processing it correctly. He frowned as he looked at you. “Do you mean…”

You sighed, placing your hands on his shoulders again. “I. Am. In. Love. With. You. You. Idiot,” you said slowly, shaking him with each word. “Just thought I should let you know before you leave. You don’t have to respond, but I wasn’t sure when I’d be able to tell you.”

“(Y/n), I…”

“Just kiss them, Cassian!” Kaytwo shouted.

Cassian turned to scowl at his droid, but you pulled him towards you and smashed your lips on his. He stumbled back in shock, his back hitting the crates. You pulled away in concern, checking to see if he was alright. He glanced at the screen of his datapad, then turned back to you.

“We have half an hour left,” he said before pulling you in for another kiss.

The second kiss took your breath away as he pressed himself against you. His heart pounded in his chest, a giddy feeling spreading throughout his body as you eagerly returned the kiss. He wasn’t sure when he fell, but it was gradual and natural and it had caused a conflict in him when he thought that you were in love with Bodhi instead. Bodhi was his friend as well, and if the two of you made each other happy, there wasn’t much he could do but let it happen. Yet, here you were in his arms, reciprocating his feelings.

The two of you finally pulled away for air. Cassian rested his forehead against yours and sighed in content. “I love you, too.”

“Finally!” you heard Jyn’s voice shout.

You and Cassian walked away from your secluded crate corner and saw that the crew had already gathered. They all grinned widely before loading their things onto the ship.

“I… I need to go,” Cassian said softly.

You nodded. “I know. Better come back to me in one piece, captain.”

“Of course I will. Wait for me?”

“Of course.”

He was glad that you had made the first move. If not, then he would have ran off from one mission to another without telling you how he felt. Then, who knows where the two of you would be. He would have probably lost you.

As he entered the U-Wing, all of his friends turned to him with a smile. Bodhi stepped forward and patted his shoulder. “It was about time,” he said.

“Yeah, we were going to lock the two of you in a dark room together for two hours if you guys didn’t make a move,” Jyn said.

Baze snorted. “I think sending them out on a mission together would have worked as well.”

“The Force would have found a way,” Chirrut piped up.

He was definitely glad that you made the first move.

oh my god, DO I. this may have been the best ask in the world. i’m not really sure what u want a feel for, so i threw together some of my favorite longfics for maximum veg time from the ot/pt and links for swr and swtcw recs. they’re pretty much all luke-anakin/vader centric, since that’s kinda my bread and butter.

let’s start with frodogenic, who wrote the first longfic i ever read in sw and might be one of the funniest authors ever. they once reviewed my fanfic & i nearly cried from joy. anyway. 

The Father, 284k+, complete. “Ten years after ROTS, tormenting nightmares of his unborn child drive Darth Vader to extraordinary measures with unexpectedly drastic consequences. Clearly, experience has taught Darth Vader nothing...” 

this is my og star wars fic and boy oh boy is it amazing. i will never get over this. i don’t want to spoil anything but when i say the final chapters are great? i mean they’re legendary. sometimes i still think about them & wish upon a star that i could be such a great writer. vader’s amazing, han is spectacular, and the ocs are fantastic.

Far More Than Rubies, 70k+, complete. “Nine years after AOTC, tragedy revisits the Lars Homestead. Little Luke Skywalker is suddenly plunged into chaos as the rebel movements discover a secret military project that may make a crucial difference in the war with the Empire.”

the spiritual twin of The Father, FMTR takes a look at padmé’s character and relationship with both luke and anakin/vader that’s hard to beat. it’s darker and heavier than The Father, but it hits those same sweet, sweet emotional beats while raising the age-old question: if padmé had lived, what would she have done?

The Family Tree, 12k, complete. “In which Luke Skywalker is stranded in a tree waiting for a flash flood to recede. Too bad he's got company...”

okay, i admit, this isn’t a longfic, but it is a longshot, and it’s amazing. the imagery and description always blow me away, and the interaction (canon-compliant) between luke and vader just [chef’s kiss] get me. vader’s in full, glorious form, and it makes it all the harder when luke wrestles with the knowledge that vader is his father.

Sibling Revelry, 25k, complete. “After Bespin and before Endor, Darth Vader is shocked to discover that Luke and Leia are twins. He's even more shocked when Imperial Intelligence reports that Organa and Skywalker are, erm, a tad closer than previously suspected.”

this is complete crack and humor in the best way possible. it’s crack treated entirely seriously, and you will be in stitches, i promise. no matter how many times i’ve read this i break down.

KittandChips (@kittandchips) writes what i can only describe as food for the soul. the luke-vader interaction is insanely amazing, the world building of daily imperial life and imperial governance is amazing, and vader just has a special je ne sais quoi that u must read to understand––tragic, funny, and so, so fatherly. they’re currently rewriting the Force Bond Series to fit in with newer canon, so i will joyously binge reread the entire again (including the new Force Bond: Mustafar Weekend).

Force Bond 1: Orphan, 47k, complete. “After Owen and Beru are killed by a mysterious stranger, young Luke ends up as an orphan on Coruscant. It's a race against time as Obi-Wan struggles to find Luke before Vader realizes the boy is his son.”

Orphan kicks off the series, which tracks vader and luke’s relationship through the perils of luke’s teenagerhood while growing up under the eye of the emperor and imperial court. it’s filled with slow growth, struggle and misunderstandings as darth vader tries to single parent, and pay off in every installment. the entire series clocks in around 777k+ and is the most joyful, fulfilling reading you’ll ever have. promise.

darth-nickels (@darth--nickels) writes darker, twistier, and terribly, terribly heartwrenching aus. they’ve got a whole host, but let me introduce to my two favorites. also, check out their faux-academia on vader. it’s amazing and i love it, but i admit i am an academia hoe.

Dooku Captured, Pt 2, 16k, complete. “Dooku is taken alive onboard the Invisible Hand, and Sidious' web is torn. The Sith Lord wonders if death might have been preferable to clumsy interrogation by Anakin Skywalker.”

Dooku Captured is a longshot au told from Dooku’s pov which takes the beginning of ROTS and throws it on its head. it’s a fascinating outside perspective of anakin and obi-wan’s relationship and such and interesting examination of dooku’s psyche and especially his complex relationship with the jedi order, qui-gon, yoda, and palpatine. i cannot rec this one enough.

Black Mirror, 90k, incomplete. “The Ghost crew returns to the Lothal when they hear the Empire is investigating the Jedi Temple there. They learn Vader is alone and decide to take him out-- but what they find could change the course of Galactic history.”

Black Mirror diverges into swr territory, but make no mistake: this is entirely an examination of vader and, later, obi-wan as well as ahsoka. luke makes his appearance later in the game, and boy oh boy will you love luke’s portrayal is a microcosm of luke and vader’s relationship within canon. heed the tags, though.

jerseydevious ( @jerseydevious ) is, first and foremost, one of my favorite people on earth. secondly, though, she’s an amazing writer with a deep understanding of vader’s character and psyche, a flair for beautiful depictions, and the true ability to wring every emotion out of your body.

Two and a Half Men (with a baby), 13k, incomplete. “After a long day of bargaining with Hutts and attempting to ignore his past, Darth Vader is nearing the end of his rope. When he discovers his two-year-old son, it's the straw that breaks the semi-rational Sith Lord's back; in a rash act worthy of the Skywalker name, he scoops his son into his arms, steals a shuttle from his own fleet, and punches in random hyperspace coordinates to a destination on the other side of the galaxy. Unfortunately, father and son are not the only ones on the ship.”

Two and a Half Men will stick with you, dude. like no other. i promise. it’s a whirlwind ride with obi-wan, vader, and piett and as funny as it is heartbreaking. it touches on some heavy issues and doesn’t shy away from looking at the damage done to vader––again, heed the tags.

Helioseismology, 4k, complete. “Luke gets shot down on a supply run and caught in an ice storm. It's extremely lucky that his father followed him there.“

i’ll admit. im completely biased about this one because it was a birthday gift to me and i am sucker for litcherally anything when jd puts pen to paper, but believe me when i say you will be awed by the depth and tangled relationships between these luke and vader that jersey can illustrate in a stroke of the paintbrush. im love. always.

izzythehutt ( @izzythehutt ) i am blown away by the intricate dialogue and characterization, always. and the latin puns? im sold. im also a sucker for latin puns, but that’s a story for a different time.

In Loco Pirates, 34k, complete. “A down-on-his-luck Hondo Ohnaka manages to capture the unicorn of all bounties--Luke Skywalker, which sends Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith, on a painfully familiar trip to the planet Florrum to collect his prize. The failed negotiations leave Vader in the awkward position of being stuck in a besieged pirate bunker, trying to balance keeping his wayward child safe (and in his custody) with controlling the tongue of a loose-lipped pirate who--to the surprise of no one--has a bad habit of telling 'amusing' anecdotes from the Clone Wars.”

hondo, aka the best character of swtcw, is brought to life just as vividly on paper as on screen. his entire personality brings luke and vader’s difficulties in a sort of incredulous light, which makes it as funny as it is vulnerable and tragic. the sequel, Palpatine Ad Portas, brings piett into the spotlight, and oh man do his interactions with palpatine and vader bring u all the uncomfortable vibes. relish in it.

This could've been the only thing that would come of getting through a Sith complex with his father, but thanks to going to free Han earlier than the gang did otherwise, more revelations are had. Will that change anything?”

this series is a thoughtful, contemplative piece examining the nature of the force and the relationship the skywalkers have with tatooine. the descriptions are beautiful, the inventiveness is amazing, and you’ll be thinking about it for long afterwards.

a classic and it is for a reason. the interaction between han, luke, and vader is so spectacular and the slow trudge of going through the forest with your greatest enemy and best friend is something hilarious. the end is bittersweet and fantastic.

The Sith Who Brought Life Day, 13k, complete. “An Imperial officer loses a bet and has to get Darth Vader a present for Life Day.”

somewhere between terrifying and dull, this fic presents a canon-compliant look at the hunt for luke and the grinding wheels of the empire. the oc is amazing and it echoes in true star wars spirit: sometimes it’s just some dude who can change the galaxy.

‘Would you just listen to me?!’

You ignored the calls of your boyfriend, violently kicking open the door to the air hangar. You stormed inside, a scowl on your face - you didn’t notice Jessika and Snap jump back at the sight of you. You breezed through the base, boots thumping into the concrete floors, steps like thunder. You couldn’t even look at Poe - you might throttle him otherwise.

You usually embraced his rebelliousness. His courage was one of the many things you loved about him - but this was your mission. You were the commander. It was a different story when he was ignoring your orders. The whole operation had been blown up because he couldn’t listen for once in his life. 

‘Baby, please-’

You stopped in your tracks, and Poe crashed into your back with a grunt. You turned to face him, and for a split second, he held out his arms. The action, however, was quickly retracted when you jabbed your finger into his chest. He silently thanked whichever god was up there that looks couldn’t kill - if they could, yours would have been a weapon of mass destruction.

‘The one time I need you to listen!’ You snapped. ‘The one fucking time, Poe!’

‘I said I was sorry-’

‘- sorry doesn’t get me my mission back!’ You continued, cutting him off. ‘Sorry doesn’t change the fact you ignored me. Sorry doesn’t change the fact you went against my direct orders!’

There was a little bit more to it than his disobedience. You weren’t a superior behind a comms link, barking orders at him. You were his partner - the one person you’d hoped would be the exception to his insubordination. That was what was causing most of the fuel behind your rage. 

Poe bit his lip, nodding. ‘I’ll make it up to you.’

‘How?’ You snorted. ‘You find a time machine and go back and unfuck this up for me?’

He grimaced, hopelessly scrambling to find something - anything - to say that could possibly calm you down. ‘I’ll explain it to Leia. I’ll take the fall.’

‘That was gonna be the case anyways.’ You murmured. 

Poe reached out to grab your hand, but you swatted it away. 

‘Don’t.’ You shook your head. ‘Look, I’m gonna go to my quarters and get the mission report done. I need time to think - and maybe a wall to punch.’

‘Wait,’ His mouth dropped open, and that was when the magnitude of his actions finally seemed to click. ‘This isn’t gonna change anything is it, for us?’

You knew the us that Poe was referring to - and he didn’t mean your professional relationship. He meant the us, us. The us that had sneaky kisses and escapades in broom closets. The us that laid together at night in each other’s arms, discussing everything from from work that day to theories about the deepest, darkest galaxies. The us that might have been the only stable thing in Poe Dameron’s unpredictable life. 

‘I don’t know.’ You sighed. ‘I just need time to think.’

You paused, the volume of the situation beginning to cause the descend down a slippery slope of misery and rage. 

How could he do this to you? You knew that the flyboy was capable of some exceptionally dumb things, but this one took the crown. This was the grand finale that completed The Chronicles of Poe Dameron’s Dumbassery (patent pending). 

Poe grabbed your arm, glancing around at your co-workers. Most of them had left the room when you entered - news of the mission had quickly spread about the base and people did not want to get in your way. Even Threepio had made a point to not go near you. Still, the pilot dragged you from the walkway and towards an empty space behind his X-Wing. The ship was splattered with dents and chips from the TIE fighters that had chased you out of the planet you’d been on. Perhaps that would be the epilogue in the aforementioned book.

‘Baby,’ his voice almost broke, desperate as he grabbed your face in his hands. ‘I would give anything to go back and undo what I did, literally anything, but I can’t-’

‘- I know you can’t.’ You moved his hands, momentarily intertwining your fingers. ‘It can just be so exhausting, Poe. I love you so much but you don’t think about the people around you.

You moved away from him, propping yourself up against the ladder of his jet. Your feet swayed back and forth for a moment as you thought. You were hurting- teetering on the edge of pure insanity, ping-ponging between your intense love for the man in front of you and your frustration at the situation.

‘I think we should take a break.’

You knew that you didn’t mean it. The second the words left your mouth, you wanted to swat them out the air, throw them to the ground like dead flies. Some childish part of you just wanted to scare him, to make him feel what you’d felt. 

‘You’re right,’ Poe nodded. ‘We’ll get some food, cool down and then we can talk about this-’

‘- no, Poe.’ Your voice cracked slightly. ‘I mean a break from us.’

‘You’re breaking up with me?’

‘No, not a break up. Just a break.’ You stood up.

You saw the hurt on his face; the anguish, the torment. More than ever, you wanted to wrap your arms around him; to hug him, to run your hands through his stupidly soft hair and hold him and promise to hurt whoever it was that was causing his distress. But it was you. Was love always this much agony?

‘I gotta clear my head.’ You whispered, slipping by him as you walked away.

A few hours later, you were even more angry that you had been when this whole thing started. You were no longer just enraged at Poe - you were now pissed off with yourself. Why had you said that? Why had you let the heat of the situation push you over the edge and say such stupid things?

Three hours without Poe by your side felt like a lifetime - a long, sad, empty lifetime. You’d been sat on your bed, handing resting on the empty space where he should have been. You were still furious at him but that didn’t mean you wanted to be without him.

You let out a sigh, watching as BB-8 circled the floor in front of you. He’d followed you back from the hangar, beeping something about relaxation methods. But aside from that, he’d been pretty silent. You felt like he was a kid who’d seen his parents have a fight. 

‘Where is Poe?’ You asked quietly, moving down to kneel in front of the droid, fixing his antenna. ‘In Finn’s room? I know right, where else?’

Grabbing the nearest jacket from your desk, you tugged it over your shoulders. As the heavy leather fell over your torso, you realised it with Poe’s - he’d lent it to you on your third date. It occasionally lead to a few awkward situations where you, Finn and Poe all turned up wearing matching jackets, given that the pilot had also gifted one to his friend. 

You made your way to Finn’s quarters, BB-8 rolling behind you. He’d perked up a bit at the prospect of his parents you and Poe working it out. Nobody liked to see you guys fight. You knocked on the door twice - usually, you were close enough with Finn to walk in unannounced, but with the given circumstances, you didn’t want to just swan inside.

A few seconds later, the door opened, and he greeted you with a smile. ‘Y/N!’

‘Hey, Finn.’ You greeted him. BB-8 nudged past his leg, rolling inside without waiting for an invitation. 

‘Poe’s inside.’ He said, stepping aside. ‘I’ll give you guys some space, but please don’t do anything in my bed.’

You rolled your eyes. ‘Finn.’

‘Just saying!’ He ruffled your hair as you walked by.

Poe was sat on Finn’s bed, a holopad in one hand and a cup of caff in the other. He’d clearly heard the exchange at the door and was trying to play it cool - something at which he was failing miserably. 

‘Hey,’ you greeted him quietly. You gently took a seat on the bed next to him, pulling the holopad from his hands. ‘Wanna talk?’

‘Is there much to say?’ His voice was cold, and you almost did a double take.

‘Poe,’ you sighed. ‘I don’t want to break up, or go on a break, or whatever it was that I said.’

His brown eyes lit up slightly, and he finally turned to look at you. The last three hours had been equally painful for him - he thought he’d lost you. There was a lot of things that terrified him but there was nothing that scared him more than the idea of life without you by his side. He would have rather gone up against Kylo Ren with a pencil for a weapon than let go of you.

‘I got caught up in the heat of the moment,’ you continued. ‘You hurt me, and I think I was reaching for something that might make you feel the same.’

‘Well, you made me feeling something that was deep, dark and pretty terrible.’ Poe tried to joke, but he couldn’t hide the wavering in his voice. He reached to take your hands in his, and your heart broke when you realised they were shaking. ‘But that’s not a lot compared to what it feels like to lose a mission - especially because of me.’

‘I don’t care that we lost the mission. That happens all the time - it just hurts that you didn’t listen to me.’ You explained. ‘I guess I felt like you didn’t respect me.’

‘I do!’ Poe’s eyes widened. ‘I would...I would do anything for you. You know that, right? You tell me what you want me to do, and I’ll do it-’

‘- I just want you to listen to me.’ You cut him off. ‘That’s it.’

‘I can do that.’ A smile finally fell onto his lips. He pressed a kiss to your lips, and you felt yourself finally relax. You were going to be okay.

‘I’m still fucking furious at you, though.’ Your words didn’t quite match your actions; with one hand tangled in his hair and one resting on his face, you seemed to be more sweet than intimidating. ‘But I love you, and whatever this is, we’re gonna work through it.’

‘I love you too.’ He pulled you in for another kiss. ‘And I will never, ever do anything stupid again.’

‘I give it five minutes tops.’

Uhhh I guess I’m neutral about the current companions. They’re not my favorites but I don’t really dislike them - they had a lot of potential and chibs came up with some good storylines but did not develop them well in my opinion. I think Graham is a fun grandpa whom I’m going to miss when he leaves; Ryan is cool and could’ve done a lot more if the writers had kept a few things, it’d be awesome if he vlogged all of their adventures. He’s like the one I was curious to see more but sadly didn’t feel a connection; and Yaz, I hope she’ll keep growing and that her friendship with the Doctor will finally be developed to a level we can connect to her.

It sounds weird because with the fam it’s always ‘what I wish could have been’ because I never felt really connected to them :(

I don’t know if I got the question right but it’s three things I wish I saw more in my main fandom? Well, if it’s that, then, 3 things about the Doctor Who fandom: 1) people having more civilized or light-hearted discussions about things. Like, I genuinely disliked an 8th doctor audio I listened once that my friends loved, and they made fun of me and we joked about it. Also once we were in a live twitch video playing among us and discussing doctor who, and then we got into a ship “discourse” as a joke and nobody really cared and just laughed because everyone knew it’s fictional shit so why get mad over it? 2) Doctor Who has a titanic amount of content, it’s all canon but at the same time it’s not, so who cares? If you want to listen to Big Finish audios and if you can afford it, then lisiten; if you can’t, it’s okay, no one has the right to tell you you’re less of a fan. Just tell them to fuck off; 3) The best way to keep fandom alive is by creating content. Here in my local fandom we have several podcasts dedicated to all areas of the whoniverse (the show, the expanded universe, the audios, etc), those old fandom websites who do serious work to bring news to the fans, people who make subtitles for the classic series (we don’t have it available here so they do their best to make it accessible to other fans), accounts dedicated to promoting dr who fans who create content, and we even have people making their own audiodramas with dw characters and writing book-lenght fanfiction to help explain the show to people who’ve never watched it, and a great variety of things. I’ve seen a few of these things in the international fandom, mostly by older fans, so I wish younger fans about my age who have the means to make this kind of stuff would make it too. Maybe there’d be less twitter drama out there lol

I’ve mentioned it before but doctor/river, don’t really remember why idk I just don’t vibe with it anymore. But also because thoschei has so many different pairings in 1 ship that I don’t really feel the need to ship them with anyone else lol

GOD I NEED TO TALK ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT’S SO SPECIFIC ok fellow academy era stans gather around if you have read Divided Loyalties there’s a scene where it SHOWS that Magnus had a crush on Ushas. And NO ONE HAS EVER TALKED ABOUT THEM and the power couple they would’ve made. I write them into all my fanfics in hopes of making other people ship them but I’ve had no success so far

S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon (prompts optional but encouraged)

The Master is a big fan of musicals and in the 77 years he spent on earth he watched every single one ever. I’m gonna be bold and say that when he was young, still Koschei, he was an artist, and thought about dropping everything to become an actor on Gallifrey. Time Lords do appreciate art, and have their own plays, but it’s just the same old and boring ones the young people don’t care about. The Master then created a shocking performance that was way ahead of its time and the older Time Lords were so appalled they banned him from writing and presenting plays and that’s his villain origin story

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending, about anything at all (gender identity, sexual or romantic orientation, extended family, sexual preferences like top/bottom/switch, relationship with poetry, seriously anything)

1) The Doctor and the Master married on Gallifrey and the entire show is just them having the most litigious divorce in the universe (still isn’t final because the Master has killed all the judges); 2) Ushas/The Rani is ace; 3) The Deca was a 10 people polyamorous relationship; 4) Romana and Livia were girlfriends at the Academy and they hate each other now because the break up was baad; 5) Romana writes fanfiction; 6) Romana/Leela had a thing in Davidia I KNOW it; 7) Leela pegs Narvin; 8) Brax has a life-size painting of Romana at his collection or a statue or smth; 9) Brax’s dream in Reborn is actually REAL and he’s married to Romana, Leela and Narvin all at the same time

"What's going on? She's about to get us obliterated with her—"

"No! Tell me what's going on with you." You moved to make him keep eye contact with you when he tried to look away, his hands going to his hips. "You know you're being too reckless. First with defying the general to do something so dangerous, now to call Admiral Holdo a traitor like that? I know you're prideful and you like to jump into things head first, but this is low. Tell me what's going on."

"We don't have time for this." He turned and walked into the room you'd been in before, making it only a few steps before you were grabbing his arm and turning him back around to face you.

"This was a bad idea."

"Stop saying that."

"They're taking too long. Who knows what could happen to them?"

Poe turned away from the window to look at you, his expression only slightly frustrated beyond the concern he was trying to hide. "It's fine. Finn and Rose can handle themselves, okay?"

You weren't convinced. It was just them and a droid, off to sneak around the First Order, while Poe was waiting to put the ship into lightspeed and you kept saying that you were not a part of this plan.

You were most definitely a part of this plan, or at least there to help in case something went wrong. But you didn't want to admit it because that meant if it did go wrong, then you were an accomplice and you imagined getting exiled to some abandoned planet with Poe, Finn, and Rose.

Which could be fun, though you weren't sure you wanted to find out.

"I know, but it's been a while. We're losing more of our fleet with each passing second...we should see what Admiral Holdo has planned."

"She's probably too busy acting high and mighty to do a damn thing." The bitterness in his voice was obvious as he stalked away from the window.

"Poe." You stepped in front of him, leaning into his chest. "Maybe we should find out what her plan is so it doesn't fuck up our— your plan."

"—you're right."

He then walked swiftly past you, practically storming out of the room with determination.

Maybe you should have just gone by yourself.

You quickly ran after him with a little regret for allowing him the option of being anywhere near Admiral Holdo.

"She in there?"

D'Acy was standing in the doorway. "The admiral's banned you from the bridge. Let's not have a scene."

"No, let's." He walked by her like it was nothing, and you followed with an apologetic smile.

The woman was kind enough to look at you like she understood that you had nothing to do with the way Poe was acting.

"Holdo!"

"Captain, you're not allowed in here!"

Admiral Holdo turned her head, looking annoyed. "Flyboy."

"Cut it, lady." Poe stopped and stood with all possible machismo, and, wow, you should not have suggested this. "We had a fleet, now we're down to one ship, and you've told us nothing!" He approached her with you close behind, holding onto his jacket just in case. "Tell us," He gestured to you and everyone else on the bridge. "That we have a plan! That there's hope!"

He was just supposed to be here to make sure she had a plan, that it wouldn't interfere with the secret one, yet he was so angry. You'd never seen Poe this angry. Had you witnessed his anger at all?

"When I served under Leia, she would say, hope is like the sun." She was so calm and levelheaded, while a frustrated Poe was looking at you like she was insane. You understood why he was on edge, but it was really getting to be a bit much. "If you only believe in it when you can see it—"

"—you'll never make it through the night." He finished for her reluctantly.

"Yes."

His sigh was so heavy and his hand found yours with a tight grip that you could tell he needed as some sort of support.

He seemed to be just about to give up on his ego trip when his eyes caught something on a screen and he paused. "—are you fueling up the transports? You are." He released your hand, going up to look at the screen. "All of them? We're abandoning ship." The emotion was so clear in his voice that it almost hurt. "Is that it? That's what you got? That's what you brought us to?"

He was suddenly turning and shoving a chair over, practically screaming, "Coward!"

You jumped, not just from his outburst, but also from someone preparing to shoot him. The admiral stopped them, thankfully. You wondered how far Poe could go before she would let them take action. "Poe."

"Those transport ships are unarmed, unshielded! We abandon this cruiser, we're done! We don't stand a chance! No, you are not just a coward, you are a traitor!" He pointed at Holdo, staring her down with nearly terrifying anger.

"Get this man off my bridge."

Two guards moved to do just that, but you held a hand up. "Poe Dameron!" Now you were most definitely angry, from many things. He had called Holdo a traitor, and even though her plan was terrible, that was far too harsh. You were confused. You were scared. Not scared of him, not really. Scared of why he was being like this.

How he could possibly be like this.

You had never experienced this level of fierce anger from Poe and you hadn't even known he was capable of it, so there had to be something deeper.

You approached him, one hand on his back and the other grabbing his arm tightly, leading him out into the hallway. He was still nearly in a rage, though he made no attempts to lash out at you, meaning this was definitely more. There was not some change that simply turned him into a cruel man.

You didn't stop until you were sure you were out of earshot. "Tell me what's going on."

"What's going on? She's about to get us obliterated with her—"

"No! Tell me what's going on with you." You moved to make him keep eye contact with you when he tried to look away, his hands going to his hips. "You know you're being too reckless. "Drop it." He yanked his arm away, moving over to the communication device. "We need to find out what Finn and Rose are doing."

"For the love of..." Your hands ran over your face in frustration. "How am I supposed to spend the rest of my life with you if you won't open up to me when you're suffering?"

Oh. So you were going to spend the rest of your life with him. If he'd have you.

He froze, then his shoulders drooped and his head lowered. There was a long moment of silence where he was breathing heavily and you were trying not to cry from how much he was destroying because of whatever pain he was hiding.

When he finally spoke, it was so soft that you nearly missed it, "What's the point?"

"—what?" Brow furrowed, you slowly walked to him.

"We lose everybody, no matter what. So what's the point?" His voice hitched with emotion, making him pause for a moment as he gathered himself. "If I can take out a dreadnought, I'm taking out a dreadnought. If I can take down the First Order, I'm taking down the First Order. Everyone's rolling over and taking it, but I'm not gonna do that. I'm doing whatever I can before they destroy what's left of us."

And just like that, you understood completely. He was scared. He was tired. He fought and fought, only to lose what he was fighting for, and now with nearly nothing, he was giving the fight everything he had before there was nothing to fight for.

He was acting this way because he was terrified that you would all be taken out if he didn't do something; that nobody else would do enough. He wasn't being prideful. Reckless, yes, but in a terrified way. In the way that he absolutely needed to take down as much as he could to stop the losses since no one was trying hard enough. He was being sacrificial and making an insane attempt at bravery, as if he alone could save everyone else.

He'd always been like this, with the way he preferred to go on dangerous missions alone to keep other people safe. You should have known.

Again, you wondered, was trying to do the right thing a valid excuse for doing the wrong one?

"You...are so stupid." You weren't sure when you started crying, but tears were falling down your cheeks as you moved to him, cupping his face. "Poe, this isn't how you beat the First Order, this is how you die. You are doing too much, too fast, with too little planning, and you are going to get yourself killed."

"I can't let them win. What's the point of all of this if I just let them win?"

"No. No, listen to me." Your grip moved to his shoulders, forehead pressing to his. "This isn't your responsibility alone, Poe. You do not have to be a martyr for this cause. It isn't your job to die for everybody else."

"It's a pretty small cost."

"Not from where I'm standing."

A couple tears fell from his eyes and it just about broke you apart. He'd been carrying so much pain and responsibility, and all you wanted to do was take it from him.

"If I wasted all that time trying to resist you, just to lose you, I don't know what I'll do. I need you to take a step back and think things through, and let me know what's going through your head so I can help you. I'm here and you can't get rid of me."

They can't get rid of me, you didn't say. You couldn't promise that, but Poe deserved the hope that not all would be lost, so you left it as an implication.

"Even though I've been a dick?"

You looked at him and then kissed him deeply, trying to channel all your compassion and care into the kiss. Finally, finally, all the tension seemed to leave him.

"Even though you've been a dick," you said as you pulled away.

There was a difference, though, between being a dick and being terrified and desperate. His urgency had come across as carelessness, but now you understood.

Anger is never just anger, and sometimes pride is a feeling of too much responsibility.

"Come on, we have a plan to see through."

He looked at you with surprise. "I thought you weren't part of this plan?"

"No more going through this alone, Poe."

Crackdown on Whiny Fanboys

I finally saw TLJ with my own eyes. I’ve been a fan since I was a child. I grew up on this franchise since my mom introduced it to me with a late night viewing on a TV movie channel when I was about 8, and as a little girl realized my love of space and storytelling. I’m 21 now and it’s just as special to me now. That being said I saw TLJ and thought it was really wonderful. And that is why I’m pissed at Fanboys whining about it ruining everything. Mostly the manner in which they do it.

Let’s knock out a short list -

• “Too much humor”

It’s funny but is that so wrong? It brings a relatablity to it. I went with cousins who aren’t devoted fans and they said the humorous moments helped them delve into the world better because it felt like mannerisms that could happen between real people. That it didn’t seem so serious and detached. The humor is well balanced with the serious. Star Wars isn’t Star Trek it’s not supposed to be a very precise sci fi story. It’s a mix of fairytale, western and soap opera. You’re supposed to have fun sometimes. And it didn’t distract from the gravity of the story at all.

• “Leia in space was STUPID”

I heard about this and wanted to see for myself. I had heard all the Superman references and so on... I think the reaction was way overblown. Yes it was something never seen before in a use of the force but again this is fiction you shouldn’t go on complaining about the logistics. I thought it was a powerful moment and reminds us that Leia is equally gifted as Luke even if she doesn’t get the same attention for those qualities. Particularly the scene where her eyes opened and it was very silent was beautiful.

• “Finn gets stuck with that chubby Asian Chick”

This is a big one for me. I’ve seen awful things, cruel things said about Rose and it breaks my heart that those horrid people would say such things. Rose was a fantastic character and for being New was easily blended in and her chemistry with Finn was natural and genuine. In fact many of the times I felt emotional were in Rose scenes. Props to Kelly because she was able to deliver great facial expressions to match the emotional tone of a given scene. But most of all Rose was so brave and I don’t want to hear any pathetic bitch boys slander her. *sorry for the language but I draw the line at any body shaming and especially racially charged insults, get out of this fandom if that’s your take*

• “The Side Adventure with Finn and Rose was awful”

Okay I may be in the minority but this storyline did not bother me one bit. It was light and fun and covered important topics but not in a way that was as distracting as people claimed. People acted as if it was a drawn out PSA when it really wasn’t. It was observations. We see quick nods to the dangers of greed, child labor and animal abuse. Enough to show the wrongness and leave and impression but it was not some big thing that took away from anything at all. The casino was visually pleasing to the eye and was a good change of scenery from the place of war we are so used to. It helped us see a part of the galaxy, people and creatures whose lives go day to day removed from the two sided situation we mostly just get to see. A reminder of the little details and everyday happenings. That’s refreshing.

And I hate people saying that Finn didn’t have anything to do. That’s insane. He was able to show way more wit and bravery here than he got to do in TFA. And to me at least he didn’t seem like he was just there for comedic timing anymore. He got to be serious, sensitive and tactile adding much needed character growth and attention. He was still new to the resistance world and wasn’t afraid to accept that and joining with Rose didn’t hesitate to go off and complete a serious mission knowing his background gave him serious advantage.

• “Rey Nobody”

First off if you bitch about Rey now that she is a nobody you need to leave now because you don’t understand anything. Rey can be powerful and not have to be connected to known characters. As Daisy has said Rey shouldn’t be questioned that the only reason she can be powerful is because of family and not of her own merit. Not Skywalker, not Solo and as much as I love Kenobi not that either and that’s fine. Rey is powerful and fantastic for just being Rey and if you can’t appreciate her for that then that’s your problem.

• “Poe acting out of character”

This one I’ve heard never made sense to me as a complaint people had. Poe was superb! After not getting much story in TFA we finally get to really know Poe beyond just being a talented pilot. He’s humorous, extremely brave and a cunning and intelligent warrior. He rebels and so on but he knows what he’s doing even if others aren’t as understanding to his headstrong attitude. I really liked Poe in TFA but I absolutely adore him after seeing TLJ.

• “Luke is a coward”

Say that to my face because you’re the coward for even uttering such blasphemy. Luke is not a coward. Luke is not the same Luke you hold on a pedestal as a placeholder for your self inserting fantasies. He’s grown, he’s seen things and has been through things that gave him a quiet strength. You don’t have to prove your power in grandiose fights or shows of power. If you’re a “true” fan of Luke’s you can appreciate this development. Luke is still himself and if anything is stronger in body and spirit than before. Luke’s appearance at the final showdown carried great emotional weight and it doesn’t matter if he was there physically or not. Luke used all his strength to be there - to see Leia, to help the resistance and to apologize and meet Kylo which is the most important thing. Luke knew he couldn’t save him but his being there will have a profound impact on Kylo’s development and that is truly important. To see Luke going out after fighting for his family was a testament to his character and I don’t believe it will be in vain.

Those are just a few of many absurd claims I’ve heard. I’m just tired of people’s endless attacks on it. It’s ridiculous and exhausting. But if that’s your opinion and it upsets you so be it. Leave if you want to because we only have room in this fandom for true devotees. Those who love stories and characters and can look past flaws without ridicule. Stories evolve and change that’s inevitable but you have to be open. End of rant. Anyways if anyone wants to discuss the greatness of TLJ, Reylo, Finnrose, Poe Dameron or so on these are things I love and I’m always here for that, hit me up to fan girl anytime. My first impressions after seeing TLJ

major tlj spoilers after the cut

So do you know that John quote about how the movie addresses fandom theories or something? 

I feel like it’s really spot on. It’s like the movie deliberately flirts with most of the major question marks that TFA left us---who are Rey’s parents? What happened to Luke? Did Snoke manipulate Ben? What’s the deal with Reylo? Who is Snoke, really? Will Kylo be redeemed?

and then kind of spits on them, either giving a bland/disappointing answer, or a non-answer at all, as if saying: THESE AREN’T THE QUESTIONS YOU SHOULD BE ASKING.

It’s VERY anticlimatic, to be honest. but anticlimatic in a clever, deliberate way. I can’t say if I really liked it---I think I need at least a second viewing---but I can see what Rian did here.

So let’s start with the obvious, and for a lot of reasons the most bewilderingly anticlimatic: Snoke. Who the fuck is Snoke?

NO ONE. it doesn’t matter. Maybe he’s an ancient being. maybe he’s just Leia’s former classmate in second grade that had a crush on her and was rejected. We don’t know. He's killed**, and it’s over before we get any real answer, JUST LIKE THAT. He’s always been a smokescreen, which in hindsight was what TFA was trying to convey by having him appear only as a giant hologram. He had a specific function in this story---providing a Palpatine stand-in that the audience could immediately latch on for reassurance, but actually ushering Kylo from a conflicted teenage-like apprenticeship into True Villainy (?)---he’s fulfilled it now, so he can go. Bye Snoke.

Next: Luke. What has Luke been doing? Milking sea brontosaurs and reading ancient books and angsting over Ben’s fall and shockingly enough NOT fathering any magical daughters, AS YOU SHOULD ALREADY KNOW IF YOU WATCHED TFA.

Next, who are Rey’s parents. Aw man. that feels like a punch in the guts, tbh. Because for a while the movie actually toys with your expectations about that and there’s a scene (one of my favs from a purely visual/conceptual/symbolic perspective) in which rey goes looking for answers and sees some ominous looking shadows that you interpret as being her “people”. But those shadows reveal to be just another image of Rey herself. And then comes Kylo who straight up says that her parents were nobodies, just scavenger scum who sold her for a meal, and you’re like. Okay. Why did I spend 2 years obsessing over this?***

Next, what’s the deal with Reylo. This one is strictly connected to the question about Kylo’s redemption, and to me is simultaneously this film’s crux AND real stroke of genius. Because the first half of the movie feels like it’s moving on an enjoyable but predictable railroad of romantic/byronic hero tropes. The force bond is REAL! Kylo and Rey have UST! Kylo looks vulnerable and conflicted! Rey learns about Ben’s backstory and vows to redeem him! Their love for each other will save Kylo from falling completely to the dark side!!!!

And then the movie suddenly... rotates on itself. The story makes a literal U turn the moment you realize that this is not going to go the way you think and that---no, Kylo’s won’t be redeemed (this way).

And maybe love (well, at this stage it’s mutual attraction and curiosity and longing for somewhere, someone, to belong) and good intentions aren’t enough to steer someone from his perceived path (not yet).

It’s not that Snoke wasn’t a malevolent figure manipulating Ben; he was. But Kylo’s agency is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT to his actions than what the average Kylo fan was willing to admit, and the movie is a brutal reminder of that. Kylo isn’t just lost and lonely and traumatized. He wants power. He sees his greatness as a mission. He’s focused, deliberate, and willing to sacrifice a LOT of things to get what he wants. Including his father (he didn’t kill han solo because he hated him---he didn’t hate him at all, as he tells Rey at one point. He killed him because he was a weakness, something that prevented him from fulfilling his true potential). Including Snoke, his mentor, his master, his leader. (perhaps not Rey, though. Not really, if his last scene indicates anything.)

I think we all saw the cracks in Kylo’s armor and his obvious conflict and took it as a guarantee that he’d start the movie more evil and unhinged than ever and then make a shift halfway through the movie towards redemption; TLJ spit in the face of this rather predictable headcanon by having Kylo go a bit darker, then teasing us with a possible redemption-by-force-bond, and then shockingly upgrading him to Ultimate Big Bad instead of Conflicted Anti Hero.

(which is not to say that Kylo’s layers are suddenly gone or that he’s Really Evil---he’s no more evil than he was in TFA, no more evil than he was when he laced his fingers with Rey’s in the hut. He’s just refusing to be put in that nice little box that we, me included, wanted him to fill at the end of this movie.)

(he also kills Snoke instead of Rey, but probably not to save Rey. Not exactly? I mean, also that, I’m sure. But this man’s motives are complex. It was part of his plan all along. He manipulated Snoke into thinking he was weak and foolish, “a boy in a mask” so that he could blindside him. It’s unclear how much of his touchy-feely force bonding moments with Rey was ALSO a manipulation, and how much they were something genuinely unexpected that coincidentally helped him fulfill his plan. When he asks Rey “why does the force keep connecting us”, it’s unclear if it’s a honest question on his part. I’d like to hear your opinions on this.)

This also doesn’t mean that it was all a bait and switch---at least, I hope it’s not. The force bond is real and no matter how and why it was created it’s something that both of them will have to deal with. I personally do believe it’s the Force who brought these two together and made their lives inextricably connected. There must be a reason. Their feelings for each other are also real, now made more violent by each other’s mutual (perceived?) betrayal. This is going to hurt, but at least we have now exited the “they don’t even know each other’s name!” limbo for good. They know that... and many other things about each other now. Probably more than they’re comfortable with.

I also don’t think this movie answered the question of Kylo’s redemption with a resounding no, on the contrary it just made it clear that everything can happen. Kylo’s future looks bleaker than ever now, true, because it seems like he was offered AGAIN an olive branch, a chance of redemption, and instead he doubled down on evil. Sure as fuck those who hated him will hate him even harder, and I guess a lot of neutral fans (perhaps also those Kylo fans who were flat out counting on him being revealed as an innocent victim of Snoke’s manipulation) will turn on him too.

I feel like I did in the aftermath of the Red Wedding: shocked, traumatized, but also insanely curious to see how the narrative rises again after such a low point.

... I can’t believe I wrote this already? I was going to talk about what I liked and what I did not (the movie is hardly flawless tbh), and the squee-worthy fanficcy scenes, and shirtless!Kylo and omg omg omg Luke and Leia (okay that deserves another post) and instead I went full boring analysis lmao. Sorry.

** not sure if Snoke is actually dead. Part of me really doesn’t want him to, because I like eldritch evil in this story and I wanted Snoke to be eldritch evil, a sort of Night’s King that humanity, I mean the galaxy, including the bad guys, unites to rally against. Kylo is many things, but last time I checked he’s still human, therefore still worthy of our empathy. The other part understands that this is how a Normal Narrative would function, and that sounded reasonable enough until a week ago, but now? lmao JJ Abrams good luck untangling this mess.

*** honestly I’m not sure Rey’s parents are just that, either. Maybe the answer we get in this movie is another red herring. I think we can definitely rule out Re/ywalker or Re/ysolo though, because awkward hand touching and asking your nemesis to put something, anything on that sexy naked chest while you’re casually peering into his room via force bond is not something that Cousins Would Do, thank you very much.

jeremy heere - jeremy was born in kanto and raised there for most of his life - eventually moved to alola with his dad and lives on melemele island!  his mother is from sinnoh (and lives there now) and his father from kanto.. he’s visited kanto a couple times with his family before his mom left, and plans to just travel the different regions one day! jeremy is the kind of person to have a full team on him at almost all times imo!

his team consists of:

a shiny toucannon! he came across her one day and managed to catch her (as a pikipek) and still cries over the fact he found her tbh. her name is leia and she will fucking fight anyone who messes with jeremy (or any of jeremy’s friends, tbh.) ((michael cries over her. everyone cries over her. the shiny bi birb......... bless..... RICH CRIES OVER HER A LOT BC!!! IT’S THE BIRB!!!!!))

natasha is jeremy’s vulpix! she is a cutie that was given to him by his dad, and she’s not an alolan vulpix (which, jeremy is completely fine with tbh, because natasha is pretty fucking rad). jeremy’s actually grown up with her so they’re pretty close.

ganon is a gengar that will fuck u up. he’s kind of an ass sometimes, but he’s apart of the team nonetheless! jer caught him after he was dared to go into the thrifty megamart (while acerola was off taking care of official business, which is... a no-no, jeremy you fuck).

galileo is an eevee jeremy has yet to evolve - mainly out of uncertainty. he’ll probably end up as a jolteon tho! jeremy caught him since the boy loves eevees. michael was probably like “so what are you gonna evolve him into” and jeremy was like “.... fuck, idk.” he’s a pretty rad eevee, tbh - but he’s a lil smaller than most. he doesn’t let that get him down - fuck you if you judge him on his size, tbh.

kalel is a tirtouga that jeremy revived! he’s a pretty rad dude who acts a lot older than he is. pretty gnarly. michael likes him. they share weird outdated lingo lmao

peggy is an ariados that’s super sweet. gentle spider baby. she’s pretty optimistic tbh!!! jeremy loves his spider baby. he raised her from when she was just a baby spinarak. his daughter. i love her.

michael mell - born and raised in alola on ula’ula island! he’s pretty content to staying in alola, but would 100% travel other regions with jeremy because honestly - that sounds super fucking cool. keeps 3-4 pokemon with him at all times. super guilty about catching pokemon and sending them back to his parents - but they don’t mind! his dad loves pokemon a lot and both of his parents research them!!!

his team consists of:

daxter the decidueye! michael’s parents managed to get daxter (as a rowlet) for him for his birthday and the two are super close! sometimes closer than michael and jer are lmao. he’s a pretty damn cool bird. fuck u jeremy and ur SHINY bird.

samus the flareon!!!!!! the only gal who will fuck u up if u underestimate her. michael treasures her. she is a good bab. 10/10. likes to curl up on michael while he sleeps.

christine canigula - also born and raised in alola on akala island, but lived in hoenn for a couple of years before moving back! she loves her team and would fight u. a complete angel tbh, names all her pokemon after theatre characters (same tbh). her father travels a ton and she meets up w him sometimes while she travels!!! it’s fun times

her team consists of:

cassie the oricorio! too good for the chorus. christine loves her a ton!!! she is a good bird. very dance and gets along with christine rly rly well!!!! (most often seen as in pom-pom style)

eliza the lilligant! she is good and an angel. i love her. extrmely sweet tbh. the most liked member of the team tbh. (these descriptions get shorter with every character whoops)

macbeth is christine’s machoke! he’s ready 2 tussle if u hurt christine + he’s super gr8 at moving set pieces if necessary! once picked up jeremy and scared the fuck out of him.

puck is a togedemaru! he’s super cute and ready to destroy. probably the strongest of the team tbh. probably fucked up Many ppl. he’s super sweet though??? just don’t anger him lmao. he chills in the light/sound booth during shows. he doesn’t even do anything he just chills there.

rich goranski - from sinnoh my sweet dudes! most of his pokemon are actually like.... sinnoh-native. lives in alola with his older brother now but still visits sinnoh every year. tends to travel rather than just staying in one place. has broken his pokedex multiple times on accident. his bro is pretty laid-back tbh but probably works for aether since they pay is... good and he was support rich that way. has burn scars from a bad run-in w a pokemon :/

his team consists of:

buzz is his electabuzz! a good baby, buzz is a big ole softy who cares deeply for his trainer. a tough dude, ready to tussle if someone tries to hurt rich though.

ryder is his mudsdale! a tough, cold dude who doesn’t rly give two shits abt 99% of things. prefers naps tbh. a bit stubborn sometimes too tbh. actually rly loves brooke??? no one knows why.

onyx is his salazzle. a sharp-witted girl who would fuckin stab a bitch for rich. very protective of him. she loves her short trainer. often picks fights with daxter whenever rich and michael are together, but more in the older sister way tbh.

jake dillinger - born and raised in kalos, jake made it his personal goal to travel to every region and beat the leagues. his parents have been sort of absent from his life so he’s extremely independent and tends to mother his team, honestly. he regularly talks with sycamore (and thanks him for giving him the opportunity to travel)! strong boy. loves his team. only carries three pokemon bc he’s always ready to add to his team.

chester the chesnaught! wasn’t named by jake. a timid boy who’s a little bigger than most chesnaughts, ending up around 5′8″ rather than the usual 5′3″. forgets he’s a big boy. has always referred to jake as his papa ever since he was a chespin and he hasn’t stopped lmao. what a cutie

stephanie is his mienshao! a tall babe who is ready 2 tussle. loves jake? he is a good trainer. often spars with chester to keep her skills sharp. i love her?

beans is his reuniclus and he is a smart cookie. awkwardly smaller than most pokemon tbh? he doesn’t care. he’s happy and loves himself and his teammates. often naps but is a strong baby.

chloe valentine - born in kalos, raised in alola on akala island. met brooke there too!!! didn’t grow up expecting to be that interested in battling but something seemed to spark and she’s honestly one of the strongest trainers in alola. honestly, i could see her as an island kahuna??? ready to fight anyone threatening her island. 

buster the machamp. protective of everyone tbh, not just chloe. a jolly boy who loves to eat, and often jokes around with the rest of the team and with chloe’s friend’s teams.

marshmallow the bewear. honestly a terrifying bear who knows her strength. very patient with everyone, except buster when he tells shitty jokes. often the scariest part of chloe’s team.

kate the lucario. the real threat. chloe fucking trains with her in order to keep in shape. often responsible for knocking teams out, kate is the powerhouse of the team. marshmallow may strike fear, but kate’s the one trainers should lookout for.

brooke lohst - born and raised on akala island with christine! brooke has always had an interest in taking care of pokemon and aspires to be a nurse someday tbh!!! not interested in battling tbh, but is super supportive of her friends! only keeps two pokemon with her at all times tbh. they’re good friends.

winona the chansey is brooke’s main partner tbh. she plans on staying by brooke’s side when she goes into school and helping her when she eventually becomes a nurse! good friends with rich’s mudsdale tbh. winona is very bold and very strong and i love her 

terra the espeon. given to by jeremy! terra is a sweetheart who also helps brooke as much as she can, and can help calm trainers if needed. whoops i love her?

jenna rolan - also born and raised in alola on melemele island. jenna is insanely smart??? honestly she’s gonna be a professor one day. she studies under professor kukui rn! more intereted in research than battling tbh. loves her team i s2g she would fight anyone for insulting them.

frost is her ninetails (alola ver)! jeremy loves her? especially bc he was raised in kanto and woah jenna u have a ninetails wtf!!! but she’s an ice type!!! thats so cool.... but anyway, frost is a diva i s2g, she likes attention (and likes jeremy because he gives her attention).

andy is her dragonite!!! he’s a good friend, a good chubby soft boy. andy is basically a giant teddy bear who just wants to cuddle tbh. often found napping??? what a sleepy boy

C-3PO and R2 are 100% the Janet unit of the group

Han would definitely take Jason's role because he would be in The Bad Place because he made increasingly stupid decisions when it came to the law and he died in a very stupid and preventable accident while committing a robbery with his best friend Chewie

Leia = Tahani because she's elegant and comes from royalty and though she was a really successful senator and activist, her anger and pride made her an insufferable girlboss

Luke fits with the Chidi role so well it's ridiculous. Like, this boy really should not be in the Bad Place because he genuinely has the goodest of hearts and he believes in everyone and he studied the hell out of ethics and basically learned every religious system on earth to understand morality,, but boy can this boy make truly terrible decisions and also can be incredibly optimistic to the point of the unrealistic, which made everyone around him miserable, like biggs: "it's going to rain today, the weather says it'll flood. we cant go camping." luke: "not with that attitude we cant!!" *spongebob narrator voice* ~eight hours later~ *luke and Biggs are soaked to the bone and all of their supplies have washed down the river except for a single stick with a marshmallow on it which they are desperately trying to keep from getting soaked but there is so. Much. Rain. And luke, so determined that it would be sunny, left the car windows down earlier, and now it wont start, and also theres no raincoats or umbrellas because he only packed sunscreen and his "kisses u in no hetero" crop top

Din is the eleanor in the fact that he is honest to the point of brutality and is the most down to earth/realistic person there but he also lived a life of crime as a for-hire bounty hunter sooo

I love the thought of luke "optimistic to the point of irrationality" skywalker and din "the world will kill you if you don't kill it first" djarin being paired as soulmates in their respective personal hells but they actually fall madly in love and really are soulmates

In regards to the whole love triangle thing, call me crazy but I hate hate hate the whole "luke and leia are attracted to each other thing" so we're gonna go the route that I found in a fanfic and say that they feel a really strong pull/bond towards one another but they dont know what it is and they think its love and bonus points for the Bad Place scheme because luke is so so gay and he has to go through a whole straight crisis for leia which really is his idea of hell,, and then to find of she's his SISTER hooo boy that's a torture unlike any other, that boy never really recovers

Han being a chaotic bisexual and not getting the problem of Luke's Straight Crisis makes it 10 times funnier. Like I imagine luke going to han and being like,, gay but also woman??? And han being like, yeah and???

Also HAN STARTING OFF HAVING EVERYONE THINKING HE'S A ASTHETIC MONK IS JUST SO FUNNY. This man would sweat bullets after every interaction but he is a con man at heart and he is definitely not giving himself away, but also he knows nothing about being a monk and leia INFURIATES him and he just wants to rile her up and get into a screaming match with her but HE CANT so he settles for moving everything in their house a little to the left and hiding the shrimp from her fancy parties in places he knows she's find them and going into her closet and messing with the precise color coordination system

Din "the minimalist" djarin and luke "Chanel boots" skywalker drive each other insane with their clothing choices everyday as luke has WAY too much stuff and spends way too long getting ready for a party because his outfit has to STUN and INSPIRE and din sometimes puts on deodorant. Both person respective fashion choices are met with disdain and misery from the other at first (and not to be mushy or anything but eventually they both find it endearing and like lightly tease/complain about it but they look at each other with starry eyes and they're just like,, so in love your honor)

I love thinking of that one scene in the constant reboots episode where Michael goes "jason??? Jason figured it out???" But as anakin just dragging han and it fills me with such slap happy glee

Okay. Let's see... I think Din is the first to figure it out. I see him as sitting back a little, quietly watching things unfold, esp if it devolves into an argument and he has that same "ugh, this is torture" thought that is usually what comes before the realization. Also, in the show Eleanor is the main one to figure it out because she's raised to always be suspicious of everyone and I'm guessing Din has that same waiting around to be disappointed thing going for him.

I think Luke, Leia, and Han (if they don't know each other in this au and are doing the OT meeting for the first time thing) will easily fall into that prickly, bickering, maybe love triangle-ish thing like they do in the movies. That would keep them distracted. Let's say Boba is there then you get him and Han at each other's throats and then everyone picking sides.

Wondering if Vader is Michael. Oh he pretends to be nice Jedi Anakin at first, maybe does the whole "Luke, I am your father (figure)" so Luke isn't suspicious of him. Because Jedi can't be bad, they're GOOD. And then... twist! He's a sith. Palpatine is Sean. Mwahaha you're in the Bad Place, dummies.

It isn't for a few reboots that Luke finally surfaces from the love triangle (part of the torture is the realization that Leia is his sister and HAN isn't that into him) and then he realizes "Oh, Fork! I'm in love with DIN" and that's when they can start to get out of the torture patterns and help each other because of love, etc.

Lando is Mindy. Because a Lando that is stuck in a sateen instead of silk cape... drinking room temp Prosecco... that's his medium place.

Maya Rudolph is still the Judge and Timothy Olyphant is played by Cobb
