Decision
Followup to Slow Burn and Refuge
Author's Notes: just really happy I managed to write something :')
Content Warnings: vampire whump, burning alive, impaled, left to die
----
There is no unseeing those eyes or unhearing those words. No going back to blissful ignorance. No just walking away.
Matteo is left with two choices.
Kill the vampire, or help him.
It would be merciful to kill him. It would be kind.
The problem is, Matteo has never killed anyone before. Not even as a wolf. He stays in distant, rural areas to avoid just that. And now he's being asked to, in his fully aware, human state, end another life.
Is a vampire really alive?
He doesn't know, and he isn't sure it matters. The creature is clearly suffering, that's alive enough.
It could be a trap. But something tells him that isn't the case.
So help it is.
"If you bite me," he warns, "I'll leave you like this."
Who is he kidding? The vampire can't even keep his head up, let alone attack. At the very suggestion of being left he lets out a rasping sob that makes Matteo's chest tighten in sympathy.
"Okay. Okay."
He takes a deep breath and approaches. Upon closer inspection it's clear that the only thing keeping the man upright is a wooden stake protruding from his chest.
Here goes nothing.
Matteo braces himself with one foot on the wall and grips the stake. It takes a several sharp tugs and all his strength but soon it pulls free. He stumbles backwards. The vampire crumples to the floor.
Without thinking, Matteo removes his tattered flannel and drapes it over the creature's bare torso before it can accumulate any more burns. Then he hurries to the window and pulls shut the thick, ornate outer curtains, blocking out the light.
His eyes adjust quickly to the dark. He lowers himself to sit beside the vampire's trembling body.
"Guess you need blood, huh?" He sighs and stretches out his arm, making one of the deeper cuts re-open. "Lucky for you, I'm already bleeding. Open up."
----
To be continued..........?

All this royal family talk is pissing me off.
I'm not wishing ill on anybody, I never would, yet, they receive the best care, the best treatments, round the clock workers, every single day, including holidays, t w e n t y f o u r hours a day.
The regular people like us have to wait, weeks, months, years, for acknowledgment.
The common folk like us have to wait again, to get any scans or tests done.
Us poor people will have to wait just a bit longer, again, for them to figure out a treatment for you.
The lessers of society will have to wait again to get that treatment.
The "Princess of Wales" said to us commoners that "we aren't alone" and I can't believe ppl buy into that bullshit.
Many of us, too many, have been alone for months, years, decades.
Months, years, decades, of poor doctors, poor treatments, left to rot in the dark, too complicated or complex for treatment, they don't have funding for that type of treatment.
Months, years, decades of being A L O N E
There's no services for us, unlike them.
"oh but they're part of our history" what that has to do with healthcare -- it doesn't. It's another display of the classes, the system we're oppressed and punished by.
But you want me to care about the royals?

TW: Wounds, Death
Whumpee winced as he dragged himself across the rubble. He was injured somewhere, but he didn’t care to find out exactly where. He was looking for his team, he’d been out for a couple of minutes and everything had gone silent.
They hadn’t left him, had they? They couldn’t have abandoned him. There was no way.
The more Whumpee adjusted himself to get a better look at his surroundings, the more he was convinced otherwise. Absolutely no one was around. At least, no one who was alive. Despite not wanting to believe it, Whumpee couldn’t ignore the rising hurt he felt. And not the hurt from the wounds he was still choosing to ignore. He wasn’t usually one to be emotional but, he suddenly felt the urge to cry. Why had his father figure Team Leader decide to leave him? Didn’t they all care about Whumpee? Didn’t he care about Whumpee? Was anyone going to come back for him?
Before he could dwell in his thoughts any longer, he heard something behind him. Grabbing the nearest jagged object, he turned to face the source of the sound. He frowned deeply when he faced Carewhumper in all their annoying glory.
“Don’t worry. I won’t hurt you.”
He lowered the makeshift weapon and turned his head. “Go away.”
“Why when you seem lonely out here?”
“Gee, I wonder why that is.” He rolled his eyes. “Don’t you have something better to do than bother me? Shouldn’t you be with your own team? With Whumper or something?”
“Oh but I am here for one thing.” Carewhumper’s smirk turned mischievous. “And that’s you.”
Whumpee quickly turned back to face them. He frowned again, narrowing his eyes. “That sounds like a bunch of crap.”
“Oh, but Whumpee, remind me why you’re out here alone again?” They mirrored his expression, making him pause to consider their words. He shook his head.
“I’m not… I’m not alone.”
“Of course you aren’t.” Carewhumper smiled softly. “You have me.”
“No I don’t! I have my team! I’ll always have them!”
They shook their head, almost in disappointment. “Whumpee, you just don’t understand, do you? Your team does not care about you. Your team does not have your back. Your team did not come back for you. But I did.” They said. “And I always will, no matter what happens. That is, if you want that.” They extended their right hand, the left out of his line of vision behind their back.
He stared at it for several moments. “How do I know you won’t hurt me? You’re not exactly known for not hurting people…”
“But Whumpee, your team isn’t known for leaving people behind are they?”
Realization sank deeper into his mind. No. That wasn’t what his team was known for. Yet here he was, all alone in a field of dead bodies. And the person who came back for him wasn’t on his team.
It was Carewhumper.
If they were willing to come back for him, they couldn’t possibly want to hurt them in the same way. Would they? Would they hurt them at all? After all, Team Leader told them to give everyone a chance sometimes.
But he was the reason Whumpee was stuck out here in the first place. Why should he wait for him longer only to bleed out and die? Or even worse, get attacked again.
He looked up at Carewhumper, seeing the look in their eyes. Eyes like those wouldn’t hurt him. Would they?
“Okay.” He nodded and took their hand.
Carewhumper smiled. “Good choice.”

Quiet wheezing filled the shuttle, mixing with the hiss of broken pipes and failing wires.
Propped up against Mal's chest, Simon wheezed, both their breaths misting in the quickly cooling air. Pulling the doctor closer, the captain threw the small blanket over both of them, gently smoothing it down.
Ignoring the way everything spun in slow circles and the cold bit at his fingers, Mal lifted his comm with a heavy hand.
"Shuttle Two to Serenity. I repeat. Shuttle Two to Serenity, over."
White noise filled the room before the comm gave a crackle and died.
Resisting the erge to throw it, the captain let his head fall back against the wall with a thud and a curse.
"Mal?" Simon wheezed, his voice hoarse. He smothered a cough, his whole body shaking with the force of it.
"Easy, kid."
Shifting him into a more comfortable position, Mal winced, his own chest aching in sympathy.
"How're you feelin'?"
"Like gou shi," Simon mumbled, shivering.
It was quiet for a few seconds, the only sound the quiet tick of the cooling shuttle.
"Are they coming?" the doctor asked.
Shoving his guilt deep down, hiding it next to his lost faith and the despair clawing at every inch of him, Mal gave him a confident smirk.
"They're on their way, doc'. Just hold on, dong ma?"

Have you ever considered cowboy whump?
Whumper chasing down whumpee and lassoing them? Dragging them on the ground behind a horse? Branding? Idk I think the Wild West should be renamed the Whump West since there’s so many good things there.
Im gonna be honest i am not American and cowboys always looked silly to me so no i haven't rly thought about it much......
...but the way you talk about it is in fact very intriguing and i think you are correct 👍
A cowboy that is a boy that keeps cows except the cows is also whumpee and they get treated like cattle and dragged around in the searing sun and branded!! Or hiding out from whumper and fearing the sound of horse hooves and gunshots so so bad because that means whumper is close... Held at gunpoint...... No civilization for miles and miles in a merciless desert...... Left to die there..... Medicine is probably not very good quality, if it's even available...... Incredibly rich in whump!

Whumpuary 2024 No. 13
Left to die | Barely conscious | "I'm fine"
Whumpuary Prompts List
TW: shot, bleeding out, abandoned, denial
Whumpee lay on the ground, eyes half-closed, staring at the sky. The moon and the stars were their only companions now. Everyone else had abandoned them. Whumpee understood why. They’d been fatally shot, and if their former companions tried to carry them, everyone else would die, too.
That’s what everyone said, anyway.
Was it getting darker because it was getting later in the night, or was Whumpee’s vision fading?
The wound in their gut pulsed with every heartbeat and ached with every breath. Whumpee had long ago lost the sensation in their legs, and they couldn’t tell if the liquid on the ground was blood or water anymore. That might’ve been because it was darker now, but Whumpee couldn’t know for sure.
For all they knew, their companions had dumped them in a puddle. Some ‘companions’ they’d turned out to be.
Whumpee closed their eyes. A soft breeze caressed their face as they listened to the sounds of the night. Whistling wind, creaking branches of nearby trees, and singing insects. The distant, indistinct running footsteps and shouting of their enemies as they pursued Whumpee’s companions.
It wasn’t a terrible night to die.
They could be underground, away from the stars.
Instead, Whumpee was here, accompanied by the moon and the nighttime creatures. Whumpee exhaled slowly. It didn’t hurt as much to breathe anymore. This was good? This was good. It had to be good.
Whumpee couldn't do anything if it wasn’t.

Whumpuary Day 25: Left to Die
TW: Blood, Bad Caretaker
@whumpuary
Whumpee laid in the dirt, gasping for air. They’d been hit. Several times actually. Their biggest wound was in their torso, a cut large enough to send Whumpee to the upper room. But it was okay, their team was coming back to save them. Right?
Granted, it had been a while, but they hadn’t forgotten about Whumpee had they? There was no way they had. The team wouldn’t just leave them behind like that.
Right?
Whumpee began to see stars. Despite not sitting straight up, it felt as if they were about to collapse and pass out. Everything hurt. Everything. Whumpee did their best to apply pressure to the bleeding wound but nothing seemed to slow it in the slightest. Their head was pounding, their heart pumping what little blood they had left throughout their body.
They began to grow weaker by the second. Their breathing slowed, though they were still gasping for oxygen. Their eyes began to close. They quickly forced them opened.
No! I can’t give up now… I’m gonna make it. I know I will… Help is coming soon.
I hope…
Despite Whumpee saying these things to themself, they knew for a fact they weren’t going to move from this spot. Even if they even tried to move just an inch, they’d pass out before they could. There was no making it out of this.
Whumpee began to grow hopeless, help wasn’t coming to their rescue. Their team had forgotten about them.
No, their team left them behind. Caretaker watched them fall to the ground, clutching themself in pain. Yet, they never stopped to help. They never turned to ask if they were okay. They kept going, as if they never saw anything. They meant to leave Whumpee behind.
They left Whumpee to die slowly, alone and in pain.

Whump Prompt #1101
A is tied to a board and is shot at for target practice. (The villains try and throw knives in the gaps around your whumpee, they could use arrows, magic, bullets, knives, daggers, axes etc)
They often leave your whumpee strung up: bleeding from a range of small nicks and full-on impalements.
