Learning to Fly: Ripples Make Waves Chapter One

“Chief, the Dancing Tiger-Seal sent word of a solitary Fire Nation ship sailing nearby. They want to know how to proceed.”  Hakoda turned from the map on his wall, sharing a concerned glance with Bato at his side. After the fleet’s successful attack on a naval squadron, they’d raided the defeated ships’ intelligence before sinking them. The larger fleet the squadron was part of wasn’t scheduled to be in the area for another week. In the meantime, Hakoda and the rest of the Southern Water Tribe fleet were scattered and would soon be reconvening in another sea.  “Send reply to not engage. Try to stay out of sight, but if spotted, retreat. We don’t want to draw attention to our movement before the squadron’s defeat is discovered.”

It's been two years since Zuko was banished and he is unrecognizable from the lonely boy who confidently declared his intent to bring the Avatar home in chains. His new goal of ushering in a new age of airbending should be impossible, but the friendships and connections he has made in his travels very well might make it possible.

The first step in this new leg of his journey? A chance encounter with the Southern Water Tribe. (Take pity on poor Iroh's heart, he might not survive the stress.)

day 2: learning to fly || to fly or to fall

originally had a Drabble I wrote…which was then lost in the processing vortex. Oops. Reconstructed it as well as I could, and added the doodles :D

Of course she worried every time he’d tested that suit - wasn’t dragonback close enough to flying? - but she’d quickly learnt that this particular matter wasn’t one she could persuade him to stop on.

“Really, I think even Toothless thinks it not a good idea idea.” She said, helping him up after another crash. Stormfly scrabbled at the ground with her claws, squawking worriedly.

“It’ll work better once I fix the rudder.” He insisted, dusting himself off and rising on still-shaky feet.

“That’s what you always say.” She argued good-naturedly, and hooked his arm. “Now, we’re going to see someone to make sure you’re not hurt.”

“But, really, I’m fine!”

She gave him an unimpressed stare. “What do you think, Toothless?”

The dragon warbled, before clearly agreeing with her and nudging his rider into the direction of Gothi’s hut.

“Oh, all right you two.“ he tried to feign insult, but they all knew he was thankful that they cared.

„You’re absolutely ridiculous at times, you know that?“ she said.

He just smiled in response.

XD Here's an image I've had for a while: Between Ericka's love of high places and having Dad's vampire powers, Lucy'd definitely have little qualms about climbing onto very high surfaces when learning to turn into a bat, much to the fear of her dad and the rest of the pack. An ironic cummupence for the guy who threw Dennis off: Having to deal with a stubborn, nearly-fearless kid he has to STOP from throwing herself from high places. (and unfortunately a very real thing where parents underestimate girls and overestimate boys)

Kind of ended up a parallel with the scene with Dennis and the boxes in HT too.

Whether the prophecy could finally be fulfilled by this boy, she could not say, but it was clear the spirits wanted him to hear it. They would not allow him to hear of anything else. “When the heir of dragons is reborn, the tides of war will turn.”

Zuko's desperate for a lead in his search for the Avatar, so he reluctantly consults a rather famous fortune teller.

Status update!

Hey everybody! Quick update! I have been working on the second subroute of Chapter 7 this summer and the progress is good but it is definitely not final yet. In a nutshell you shall be going back to New York, reliving your childhood memories, catching up with long gone friends and if you play your cards right, even train alongside a famous, -then- British officer. And much much more!

Now, since I haven’t updated the story at all since December, I am planning on releasing the first subroute, “Learning to Fly” in a couple of days, once I make sure that there are no bugs and test it a little bit. This will raise the total word count to 68k words.Soooo, stay tuned! Update incomingggg!!!

New Petra, Learning to Fly - Another Hatch.

So the whole New Petra comic is a bit of an experiment for me. The truth is that I don't usually have the patience to go through a whole comic and work on it. I've got a normal job, I run chickens and grow vegetables, I have a kid, a relationship, and I have other family members that need time and/or care.

One of the things that was slowing me down was, well, perfection. If you've seen my orchids, you'll realise I like everything to be extremely damn perfect. I once got in trouble for posting an orchid to a painting area - because 'it's a photo'. That's what I aim for. But that doesn't work with comics.

The reason Learning to Fly is painted is because the moment I start doing trad pen and ink I do exactly the same thing - I obsess over perfection. I've started dozens of comics and never finished any because I get about 3 months in and the load from my life + the comic is not sustainable.

So New Petra is going to be sketchy and somewhat shitty.
