Ayoub sisters return to school
Tumblr media
Two inspirational musical sisters from Bearsden returned to their secondary school to give a special performance to pupils.
Sarah and Laura Ayoub visited Douglas Academy earlier this year to perform in a concert and to join a questions and answers session.
The sisters play piano and strings and have been recently signed by Decca Records. They have also been championed by Classic FM and played London’s Royal Albert Hall for one of the radio station’s concerts, in the company of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Sarah and Laura said it was a huge honour to be back in Douglas Academy, which is home to a prestigious Music School, and to perform again with the school’s orchestra.
They added: “The school took such wonderful care of our musical abilities from the ages of 13 to 18 and between the two of us, we had piano, violin, cello and singing lessons, as well as theory, harmony, aural and composition lessons. We also had countless opportunities to play in an orchestra and sing in a choir.
“To relive our teenage years by performing once again with the school orchestra we once played in was incredibly moving and a moment we will sincerely cherish.”
Mark Evans, the music school course director, said: “It is wonderful to see the girls doing so well. We are all very proud of what they have achieved. They have both worked so hard, and their current success is so well deserved.
“I’m delighted the girls wanted to come back to the school to perform and it is, I think, indicative of the important part that Music School played in their early musical development.”
In other news, the sisters were also delighted to hear they had topped the classical charts on iTunes, in time for Burns’ Night, with their hit, Melodies From Scotland with the RSNO. It features some of Burns' most famous works, including Auld Lang Syne and My Love is Like A Red Red Rose. Although their parents are not from Scotland, the sisters said they were brought up with a love of Scottish music.
Sarah told the BBC's Good Morning Scotland programme: “We were born in Glasgow but our parents are Egyptian so when we'd have guests at home, we'd be summoned to the lounge and requested to play Scottish music.”
The pair's talents have also been spotted by award-winning producer Mark Ronson. They had posted a cover of his hit Uptown Funk on YouTube only to be contacted by him days later. Sarah said: “Mark Ronson must have seen the video and summoned us and a couple of other musicians to record a new cover in Abbey Road Studios in London.”

What’s Out This Week? 11/3
The nights are getting longer, and there’s a chill in the air. Time to snuggle up with some new series!
Tumblr media
A Thing Called Truth #1 (of 5) - Iolanda Zanfardino & Elisa Romboli
A chaotic LGBTQ+ road trip! A workaholic scientist who wants to save the world and a woman who fears nothing but discovering her own destiny find themselves mixed up in a chaotic, on-the-road adventure through Europe. Will they manage to find a middle ground between their opposing ways of life - at least for long enough to complete their mission? And could this trip lead to an unexpected romance?
Tumblr media
Laura #1 - Guillem March
Suffering from the ever-painful experience of unrequited love, twenty-year-old Laura takes a look at her life. Is the fact that the boy she has feelings for is in love with someone else mean there is something wrong with her? Or is that just how young love goes? And what will happen when she tries to get past the hurt and move on with her life?
Tumblr media
Hellboy: The Bones Of Giants #1 (of 4) - Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden & Matt Smith
When a startling discovery is made in Sweden, the B.P.R.D. sends Hellboy and Abe Sapien to investigate. What ensues is a wild adventure full of Norse legends, mythical creatures, and a threat that could bring not just Earth but the Nine Realms of Norse mythology to their knees.
Tumblr media
The Magic Order 2 #1 (of 6) - Mark Millar & Stuart Immonen
A magical turf war like you've never seen before! The London chapter of the Magic Order has entered the scene, and these tough Guy Ritchie-style gangsters have a problem with the Eastern European Warlocks moving into their territory. Can new leader Cordelia Moonstone keep the peace?
Tumblr media
Newburn #1 - Chip Zdarsky, Nadia Shammas, Jacob Phillips & Ziyed Yusuf Ayoub
EASTON NEWBURN is a private detective without loyalties, investigating conflicts between rival crime factions while collecting enemies along the way. In this DEBUT ISSUE, a man is murdered after stealing from his own mafia family, but they aren't the ones who ordered the hit...
Tumblr media
The Rush #1 -  Si Spurrier & Nathan Gooden
1899, Yukon Territory. A frozen frontier, bloodied and bruised by the last great Gold Rush. But in the lawless wastes to the North, something whispers in the hindbrains of men, drawing them to a blighted valley, where giant spider tracks mark the snow and impossible guns roar in the night.
To Brokehoof, where gold and blood are mined alike. Now, stumbling towards its haunted forests comes a woman gripped not by greed -- but the snarling rage of a mother in search of her child...
Tumblr media
Stranger Things Winter Special #1 -  Chris Roberson & Abel
The winter holidays are upon us and the kids of Hawkins are in full spirit. As they recall stories from their childhood to teach Eleven about Christmas, tensions run high as Dustin swears he saw something lurking in the forest outside.
What new series are you snagging this week, Fantomites?

12 aprile 2019
- Ajò, te lo prendi il caffè? - E Max? - Adesso lo avviso. - Ah sta arrivando! - No, davvero? Wow! Sarebbe bellissimo! E poi finalmente a casa. E Mario continua a dire che prima o poi. Ma davvero voi uomini credete di abbindolarmi? Sogna Mario, sogna.
