so Unrelated but is Circe's future partner a shiny Latias?? :0 if so, can i have a tid bit of lore if that doesnt involve any spoilers? :D

Been working on this like a mad man to condense it, the first draft was way too long XD

Okay for for context, Citrine is a shiny Latias that will eventually become Circe’s partner down the road. This was based off the fact when I was shiny hunting Mewtwo, I couldn’t find it in the wormholes in USUM, but I did find Latias! So I took a break to shiny hunt her instead. I found her 7000 encounters in and then found Circe 2-3k encounters later after finally tracking her down X3

The two girlies are a sapphic couple, they won’t adopt or have any kidlets, but will be the type of aunts that show up to family events, spoil the niece’s and nephew’s, then dip after hyping them up on sugar.

Some old art I made of them a while back for visual enjoyment, but onto to explaining for how Lati’s work in this world and where Citrine and Circe come into play amongst it!

Lati’s are a companion based species, requiring a partner to survive whether platonic or romantic. Otherwise they are known to decline both physically and mentally, eventually perishing from loneliness. They also require a partner to reproduce, however both genders can lay egg making the sex of the Lati companions irrelevant. Due to being hunted by humans and predators alike, as well as Latias’s bright red colouring making it easier to spot has greatly reduced the number of their population. Causing even more to die from being unable to locate a partner, resulting in their very culturally strict mating/breeding habits.

Lati’s often pair up into larger pods in order to ensure survival of their chicks, of which are always guaranteed to be twins! However, if a Lati couple fails to produce two living, healthy kits they will be ejected from the pod. This is because:

1) They fear the miscarry was a genetic flaw and will be carried down by the chicks.

2) It causes an uneven of Lati’s, guaranteeing it or another will struggle to find a companion.

Ejecting the family removes the threat of tainting the gene pool and prevents a guaranteed uneven spread of Lati’s! As while more chicks can still die from illness, hunting, or accidents, it’s not a guarantee. The pods do everything in their power to prevent it, given to reproduce its required to have 2 Lati’s of which can only produce 2 chicks in their entire lifetime. Making uneven numbers very dangerous! Since every pair can only reproduce once.

Ejecting a family is treated as a death sentence, as often without the assistance of the pod it becomes difficult to raise and care for the chicks. The parents splitting up as one cares for the babies and the other provides. However if one parent is ever picked off by predators, it forces the remaining parent to risk leaving the chicks alone. All accumulating to a higher chance of the family perishing all together.

So how does this all affect the gals? Well, Citrine is shiny, that’s a problem for Lati’s.

Shiny’s in my story, by admittedly accident, usually spell a bad omen or follow up a tradegy, a death, or a life altering event. Citrine continues this trend.

She was born alongside her twin brother we’ll just call Latios for now. Latios was a normal, non shiny Lati, while Citrine was bright gold/yellow. Upon their pod seeing this, her family was ejected from the pod and forced to live on their own. Her parents did not abandon her and happily, albeit struggling, raised her and her twin brother despite the HEAVY judgement from other pods. Given Shinys were ejected not because of any inherent defects, but rather because they were infertile.

Shiny Lati’s cannot produce offspring, and given it takes two Lati’s to make a kiddo, if one can’t contribute their side of the equation, their partner can’t have the chicks either. They are not asexual reducers and require the both partners to be fertile!

So upon seeing Citrine was a shiny Latias, her family was ejected due to the guaranteed inability for her to pair up. And whilst her family did successfully raise both her and her brother to adulthood. Even in lone Lati’s search for companions, no one will take a shiny. Which is a shame, give shinies are often larger, bulkier, more powerful, and their colors help them blend in BETTER then normal Latias’s especially. Latios’s stay generally the same with colour camp shiny or otherwise. So despite this, Citrine has a very good chance at surviving on her own!

If dying slowly from loneliness and depression was a thing.

Cue Circe.

Circe finds Citrine very much on her last legs, the will to move or find food is all, but gone. So she’s wasting away on a cliff face near an ocean. Circe, a shiny herself and having 0 concept of Lati’s or most Pokémon for that matter, helps her and slowly nurses her back to health. Her disregard for shinies, their status in the general population, and genuinely caring for Citrine as she is and not what she is ends up being the first time she ever has someone really look beyond her colours. Breaking out of a toxic mindset her species imprinted on her due to fear and desperation to keep their species alive in the first place.

From there it’s a very classic lesbian love story. No one confesses for 8 years and eventually they realize their “friendship” is very, very, very, very much not a friendship anymore and hasn’t been for a while ;]

General

Legend claims that Evolotto was Arceus' first attempt at creating a Pokemon; it was only intended to be a "template" for what the god wanted to bring into the world. But it was kept hidden away until it found its way to Earth all on its own.

Many have theorized that its power is the source of the Evolution phenomenon.

Stories claim that a single touch from this creature can evolve a Pokémon instantly regardless of stats, circumstances, or items. But this has yet to be proven.

Scientists keep trying to catch/observe its traits in the wild, hoping to understand its powers--without any success.

The only thing that has been documented thus far are its attempts to evolve, in which it takes forms resembling the various Pokemon body shapes, although it uses them more for self-defense than battling.

Despite this and its connections to Arceus, it's unclear if it can learn Transform, Judgement, or use any of the plates.

Has a texture akin to soft dough or clay.

Eviolites are said to be ordinary stones that were blessed by Evolotto from the moment it touched the earth.

Like Mew, Arceus Latias, Latios, and Mewtwo, it can understand human language and speak telepathically, but is rather shy about it, preferring to keep to itself.

And during your exploration of Paldea, you so-happened to be checking out some ruins when the creature lightly nudged against your leg.

While your pokedex provided very little information on it, you find it to be quite cute and so you decide to capture it.

Surprisingly, it rejects the pokeball, but doesn't break it.

You wonder how and why....but after Evolotto just stared at you with its beady red eyes, you stopped questioning it and decided to let it accompany you around Paldea.

It'll assume its more humanoid forms when it attends class with you, even sitting in a chair and listening to the professor like it was a student.

Eventually you tell your friends at the Academy about the new Pokémon you found, convincing it to demonstrate its abilities.

Nemona thinks it looks like some kid's art project in Hassel's class, only to be excited when it starts moving around and shows off some of its alternate forms.

She hoped to battle it, but after seeing it scurry behind you for protection, she feels bad and offers it candy as an apology.

Arven thought it was another food-themed Pokémon like Fidough, but not even you knew what it was supposed to be. No factual records at the academy's library existed on it that any of you could find.

It was all just speculation and theories, the most popular ones being "it was conceived by Arceus to make evolution possible" and "eviolites are ordinary stones blessed by it".

You decided to trust in these claims.

Even Penny was curious about it, although she thought it was...quite strange that nobody's been able to catch one. But it somehow warmed up to you.

Regardless, her Eevee team adored the fella, so it didn't really matter.

You brought Evolotto to Kitakami during your trip, simply because the little guy refused to leave your side.

And after getting to know the siblings better and wondering if they knew anything about it, you decided to show them....and both of them act like you just gave them a million dollars.

They've read about this Pokémon before! And it was in your hands!

It was real all along..

After calming down about it, Carmine lowkey gets annoyed that Evolotto doesn't wanna battle and just...sticks to you like glue, letting you carry it around like a puppy.

You keep telling her that it won't go into a pokeball (but she'll still tease you about trying to "show off" even when that's not your intention).

While Kieran finds it cute and defends it from his sister's rude remarks, he does get a bit jealous when you're also getting Ogerpon's attention.

But in the end, when she chose you over him, he vows to gain ownership over Evolotto as a "prize" for beating you in the championship battle when you arrive to BB Academy.

Of course...he doesn't win.

After you two reconcile, he asks if you've learned anything new about the Pokémon, but otherwise has regained enough respect from Evolotto to give it head pats occasionally.

You see, that's much different than just assuming every single Lati pair post involves siblings, even if the context would make much more sense otherwise. I guess people forget that we've got proof that multiple of the same legendary pokemon can and do exist within the main canons.

Sorry, I'm just really annoyed at the "but siblings"/"Alabama" jokes in the comments of the post...

Not all Lati pairs are siblings!

Just because a pair that was featured in a movie are, doesn't mean the whole species is! That's like saying every pair of people you see are siblings because you saw a movie about siblings.

The movie confirms there's likely more of them elsewhere with the explanation of the soul dew, unless we're meant to assume that they're condemned to go extinct and every single one of them ever lived there, which I doubt.

There's even a dex entry that mentions them living in small herds, telling us that there's more than the one you can get in the game.

Besides, why the hell would pokemon post a Valentines Day card thing that implies a pair is together if they were all siblings? I know for a fact that Big Media Giant isn't going for a familial/platonic love thing on a Valentines Day post without actually saying it because hardly any of them do.

Sorry about this, I just opened the comments of an Instagram post to a flood of "aren't they siblings 💀" and "sweet home Alabama" jokes, and it's annoying the hell out of me.

I think the reason I went with latias instead of Latios was bc 1) it was most used by Saph I think and 2) I think it's the one that can actually use a fairy move lol.

Not much to say with Saphira's team, really. I simply choose pokemon that I thought would fit her. If the normal/fairy option on the poll won, I would have made her typing Dragon/Fire, but ah well. I think Dragon/Steel fits just as well. Maybe Titania gave her pointers. Speaking of which, fun fact! When choosing for Leo's E4, it was between her and Titania got the spot. I obviously ended up choosing Saph, but trust me it was hard. The biggest reason was bc I wanted to stay a bit away from the Another Time E4. Just a bit. That being said, and this is the fun fact, Titania eventually gets that role when Shelly becomes champion! Yes, Shelly becomes champion after Leo. It's a back and forth for a while ( and for the Adrienn's sake, Titania and Saphira don't switch each time Leo or Shelly becomes champion again), but inevitably, Shelly becomes the permanent Champion of Reborn, and thus, Titania becomes one of her E4. I like to think Shelly made Titania swear she's for keeps lol.

If there's one thing I will say about this team is that it's pretty slow. While I love Steelix, maybe I should replace it with something that can provide tailwind support?

I'm bad at calculating damage, but if I did the math right overall Fire Pledge and Heat Wave does the same damage overall ( fire Pledge gets booster by the field and sun, heat wave just gets boosted by the sun), and is a spread move. Maybe Fire Pledge for The Culture + when/if sunlight fades, it's still going 120 damage with better accuracy. So.

Arguably the one that best utilizes this field lmao. " But R this is a normal/fire team, why is Aegislash-" 1) it's too iconic not to get man and 2) there's plenty of elite 4 members that are said to master a single type but have pokemon in their teams that aren't that type. If anything, Taka here is the least offensive bc he only really has one, where the others had multiple. I just think Taka should use his cool sword more.

The biggest thing with this team is that I want it to be a doubles team, bc Taka generally battles in doubles in the post game, but this team. Is so rock slide weak man. And ngl I feel like I could have added more normal types outside of the two.

AND THAT'S EVERYTHING YIPPEE!!!!!! I love team building but am I the best at it? Nah. So if anyone has any suggestions on what I should change, feel free to send an ask!

Overall this elite 4 has this cute fantasy theme to it. Heather- the flying maiden, Fern - the witch in the woods, Saphira - the mighty dragon and Taka - the knight that protects his king ( Leo ). It was honestly accidental but I love it.

In pieces lol. I have a lot of thoughts- So first of all, these are the main Pokémon I thought of for Phoenix. His first Pokémon having been a Shinx, which is now a Luxray! Mostly my ideas for him were what Pokémon are blue (or vaguely blue) and have spikes?

I gave him the Shinx/Luxray because if I remember correctly they have a whole thing about being able to detect stuff through walls or some shit and that they are very loyal and I thought that fit Phoenix really well. I gave him a Lucario because it’s the whole aura thing and I thought that tired well into Phoenix using the Magatama. The Beldum/Eventual Metagross kinda also a play on the Magtama since y’know… Psychic rock? (Please ignore the fact Beldum is a Steel type not a Rock Type I know this shhhh). I gave him Latios to mirror Edgdeworth who (spoiler) has a Latias. It both plays into their mirroring of one another and Latios also acts like a big brother sort of figure to Latias and I like how that mirrors his relationship with Maya and Pearls as their sort of older brother. The Alolan Sandshew was because I wanted to give him a Sandslash because of the spikes and then I had the big brain moment where I remembered there’s a blue one. (Also tell me Phoenix doesn’t deserve a Sandshrew - you can’t. I love Sandshrew). And then I gave him a shiny Electivire. Hear me out- Electivire has like comfy dad vibes… okay? Like it gives the sesame vibes as Beanix does and I just think I deserve to give one of my favorite characters one of my favorite Pokémon (and shiny because blue accents lol)

I HAVE SOME POKEMON ANIME HC RUNNING IN MY HEAD AND I'M DRAGGING Y'ALL WITH ME!

Okay... so remember the Trainer-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named? The trainer who bulldoze the Lily of the Valley Conference with fucking Darkrai? The Trainer who made the most boring fight to win the Championship with a gamer mentality so Ash — "I beat 2 legendaries" —Ketchum couldn't win that season?

Sure he made him act "decent" and "mysterious", but most can agree that his fighting style shows he's an asshole that uses tactic to overwhelm opponent instead of challenging them. An aloof style that doesn't care who the other party is.

Yeah, so, today I randomly imagine what would the rest of his team be like as many of us in the fandom do. And there are a few fics out there that have theorize what that team would be, either with an all-legendary team or just half of them are legendary, or at least with one of them being a common yet OP pokemon, or even a pseudo-legendary such as Dragonite.

But then my thought came the idea that Darkrai is a Dark-Type and is stronger than Latios that is a Psychic-Type, so I thought... what if the rest of his pokemon is weak against the previous pokemon?

Because thematically? It would fit him so well because of course someone who overwhelms his opponent with power would follow the conventional type chart to keep his legendary pokemon in check.

If that's the case, then the list lf his pokemon would more or less be like this:

-Darkrai (Dark)

-Latios (Psychic/Flying)

-Virizion (Fighting/Grass)

-Aerodactyl (Rock/Flying)

-Volcarona (Bug/Fire)

Now, I know that's only five, but when I thought how the bug type pokemon is stronger than psychic, dark, and grass? I was reluctant to disturb the cycle.

Which then give me the idea of... what if his last pokemon isn't a legendary?

What if... after being so cocky of his collection of 5 legendary and pseudo-legendary pokemon, he doesn't have any more pokemon?

What if the last pokemon is just the most conventional normal-type pokemon that he neglected in favor of his powerhouses, but fits his personality?

Say... something like an eevee?

Imagine the reaction... after all the hype, the expectation, the revelation, the shock and gasps that followed.

It would be such a great and humble story to see Tobias having to exhaust all his pokemon and suddenly rely on his starter who he has forgotten for months in the biggest stage in the region.

Imagine Ash, who instead of streamrolled his opponent, help challenge bit Tobias and Eevee to give everything they have... to relearn to trust and rely on eachother once again in he midst of battle.

Whether that cost Ash to win that round or not...

Well, either scenario would still be a satisfying climax for me.

A childhood headcanon

Honestly? I. Do not really have any younger hc's for her, she's a character i've only really thought about in the present (oras) and beyond tbh If they could meet a character from another show/movie/etc, who would be the most fun for them to meet?

Okay this is still like. Pokemon. But one of the continuity's she's NOT in (for now at least) is the anime. Make her meet Harley pokemonadvancedgeneration. I think they would be worsties. It's actively bad for everyone around them to radioactive effect. It's funny.

i've finished emerald!! and with it comes the end of the era of the dexholders constantly meeting up with each other and interacting between generations 😔

we'll still get to see these guys again (other than yellow. sorry yellow. i hope they bring u back one day honey) but past this point it's gonna be a lot less overtly interconnected. which is fine! but it is a little sad :')

anyways, here's my thoughts on the chapter as a whole!

(i also wanna preface this with the fact that i realized near the beginning that as a kid i definitely never actually read this arc in its entirety, just the end part once gold and crystal show up 💀 so technically this wasn't a true reread. but yknow. anyways)

the first thing that i noticed is that this arc feels a lot more focused on the battles and gimmicks at first; it kinda takes a while for the story to really kick in, which did make the first bits of it a littleeee boring/bland for me personally. but thats ok

i think part of that is because of how emerald as a character is depicted. i love emerald, but he is a character where for most of the arc, we see him from an outside perspective, via other characters observing him and wondering about him rather than really getting to read his thoughts and learn about him as a person. this can make him feel kind of uninteresting in the beginning, but i dont think its a severe issue or anything.

i do also think that the way his backstory is revealed is a littleee clunky? like having ruby and sapphire just be like "we dont much about you so tell us all about yourself!" feels like kind of an obvious plot device to get emerald backstory and doesnt read very naturally. but i dont rlly care, esp since we then immediately go INTO his backstory which is very enjoyable to read through.

speaking of which, i love his dynamic with crystal so so much. i think it's really cute how the whole reason he became a dexholder was just because he wanted to train with her :)

and speaking of emerald's friends........ latios and latias YIPPEE. i love that they just like him for some reason and go around being his friends its cute as hell. and of course. latias. im not going to lie to you and say that human latias isnt cute as hell IT'S CUTE AS HELL OK. ALL OF ITS OUTFITS ARE ADORABLE AND I LOVE IT JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE. sorry...........

moving on, i reallyyyy love ruby and sapphire in this arc. their dialogue and just general characterization is. mwah. i love them trying to be friends with emerald and him just totally shutting them down LOL

i will say that ruby forgetting the climax of R&S is. kind of stupid and feels like a way to just artificially create more relationship drama between these two. i think that was mentioned/implied at the end of R&S but i forgot lol. anyways iirc i dont think this gets resolved until ORAS which is fucking insane. we'll see but considering that my memories of ORAS are not good, i feel like it's very likely that i'll end up just retconning this in my personal hc lol

ok DUDE. the shit with the blue orb was sooooo sick. i was so happy that they explored that a bit more bcuz the whole thing of the orbs corrupting anyone who touches them (and RUBY AND SAPPHIRE HAVING BOTH DONE THAT) was really fucking cool and i def thougt it could be touched on more.

i like how we learn about it more not just for the sake of it, but also it ends up being relevant because of archie. and we get to learn through it that there are permanent side effects no matter what, via sapphire's eyes apparently having a dim glow to them because of her contact w the blue orb? which um. is fucking sick

circling back to archie, him being guile is genuinely a cool twist and i didnt see it coming even though i have literally read this before. also him literally KILLING(?) maxie for another shot at life is genuinelyyyy fucking crazy. and i like how they tied in team galactic, it makes this feel at least a little connected to the upcoming chapter.

ok and now. something that's not at all relevant to the chapter as a whole but i have to talk about bcuz to middle school me this was the only thing that mattered about this arc

gold and silver in this arc make me sooooo fucking ill oh my lawrd. this shit is still just as crazy as it was in middle school WHAT ARE WE DOING RIGHT NOW

ok first of all. gold giving silver the ring (via very much Holding His Hand) and calling him his buddy. looking absolutely MURDEROUS after archie taps on the petrified silver. i love how this arc shows just how much gold cares about silver. crystal too ofc, but its less expected from gold due to how rocky their relationship was in the beginning. like that is his friend and if you touch him you will die. understand?

and then of course this moment oh my godddd bro. like him calling silver his buddy is just like aww theyre friends but then gold had to go and act as gay as possible about it. WHY ARE YOU FULL FACE BLUSHING OVER SILVER OVERHEARING YOU CALL HIM YOUR FRIEND! YOU ARE GAY!!!!!!!!!!

also i already said this in my initial post about this moment but like. its even gayer when you imagine what it looked like without gold's inner thoughts here, like silver tells him he heard and gold just blushes and looks all nervous/embarrassed. and then silver just continues talking. like hello.......

them getting to deal the final blow was fucking awesome. they didnt get to do a lot this arc since they were petrified with the others, but im glad that they were specifically highlighted here. getting to see them finally as officially part of the dexholders is so cool! esp since we dont get to see yellow past this point, i think this is a nice little mini sendoff to their character (for now)

seeing all the dexholders interact in general is just so fun and makes me so so happy. they're a family!!! they look out for each other!!! grahhhh

anyways. that's about all i have to say :) i've become a little busier so i dont know when i'll be starting diamond & pearl, but im very excited to since that means I GET TO SEE DPP AGAIN. MY CHILDREN.

may and brendan not always seeing eye to eye on things and arguing a bit kind of similar Groudon and Kyogre but also. Developing a close bond like latias and latios too....

lucas and barry not always getting along, but learning to understand each other better, dawn sneaking up on ppl and scaring them without even trying just bc she's so quiet...dawn being treated as "johannas little shadow" when she was younger bc she stuck around her mom so much....and before her journey maybe dawn was approaching a little teenage rebellion phase...

Basically what I'm trying to say is that, pokeprotags/rival hcs that could also work as minor parallels or whatever with their respective gens legendaries are neat👍

may not knowing how to swim but eventually learning at some point after moving to hoenn, npc brendan collecting cool rocks(not as much as steven, also he is not on that budget), may and brendan both like hiking and stuff too...
