Discovery+ (Discovery Plus) is an online streaming platform. Discovery Inc. It offers an online digital content publishing service developed and commissioned by

Discovery+ history

Discovery+ content platform launched in 2020. It was put into service for the first time in the Indian market. Before the end of 2020 , it revised its Dplay service , which serves the European continent  , and put it into service in Europe with the “Discovery+” brand. Discovery+ debuted in the US in early 2021.

It has grown in a short time in the global market. In August 2021, it managed to exceed 18 million subscribers. The service was launched in Canada in October 2021. Discovery Inc. has published a program regarding the countries where Discovery+ will be put into service in the global market.

The company works with publishing partners for different regions and countries. As of May 2021, Discovery+  entered the Turkish market in partnership with BluTV .

Discovery+  can be accessed via web browsers on Windows ,  MacOS and  Linux operating systems. It also has mobile support/compatibility. There is a Discovery+ application developed specifically for Android and  iOS mobile operating systems. Also available on digital media player platforms. It is also available on Xbox One and  Xbox Series game consoles.

What are Discovery+ contents?

Discovery+ platform contents consist of original series and programs. In addition, within the body of Discovery Inc.; Content on “ TLC ”, “DMAX”, “ID”, “Discovery Science”, “Discovery Channel”, “Travel Channel”, “Animal Planet”, “Investigation Discovery” channels can also be accessed. It also features broadcast streams on “HGTV”, “Food Network”, “Asian Food Network” channels.

Discovery+ also includes the current content of broadcast partners based on country and region on the platform. Therefore, there may be different content depending on the country/region coverage of Discovery+. For example, in the USA , there is a special license agreement between Discovery+ and  A&E Networks . Within the scope of this agreement, there are programs from the “Lifetime” and “History” channel contents. These programs are not included in the flow of other country/region coverages.

Discovery+ Eurosport deal

Discovery+  has signed an agreement with Eurosport for the European market . Channels and sports content on Eurosport networks can be watched on Discovery+ platforms in European countries.

Discovery+ Turkey

Discovery+, which entered the global market gradually, also entered the Turkish market in May 2021. Discovery+ has agreed with BluTV as a broadcast partner in Turkey. For this, Discovery company bought 35% of BluTV’s shares. 

After the purchase, the contents of both digital broadcasting platforms were brought together. Discovery+ content is broadcast on BluTV. In addition, original content from BluTV is also broadcast on Discovery+’s platforms in other regions.

The Curiosity rover made an accidental discovery on Mars – and uncovered a mineral never before found in its pure form on the Red Planet.

As the rover rolled over the planet's rocky surface on May 30, its wheels crushed a section of rock, revealing crystals of elemental sulfur, an unexpected and rare find, according to a NASA news release.

The find was "completely unexpected," said Abigail Fraeman, the Curiosity mission's deputy project scientist. "It's probably one of the most unusual things that we found the entire 12-year mission."

Although scientists have come across many different types of sulfur on Mars, the discovery marks the first time they found pure sulfur.

"Usually, it's coupled with oxygen and other elements that make it into a salt or something similar, but here, what we found was just chunks of pure sulfur," Fraeman said.

Elemental sulfur is bright yellow and has no odor. It forms in only a narrow combination of conditions – scientists didn't expect to locate such a large amount on Mars.

"It's telling us something new about the history of Mars and what sorts of potentially habitable environments it's sustained in the past," Fraeman said.

Scientists nicknamed the 5-inch sample of yellow sulfur crystals "Convict Lake" after a lake in California's Sierra Nevada mountains, according to NASA.

Curiosity snapped photos of the piece of sulfur using its Mastcam, a camera mounted on its head at around human eye level, with a color quality similar to that of two digital cameras, the news release said. The rover later detected the mineral using its Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer, attached to the end of its robotic arm.

Curiosity found the sample as it traversed the Gediz Vallis channel, which runs down Mount Sharp, according to Fraeman. The discovery came after scientists directed Curiosity towards a brightly colored field of rocks, she said.

Curiosity has been climbing the 3-mile-high peak for a decade, the news release said. The area is rich in sulfates, a sulfur-based salt left behind when water dried up billions of years ago.

NASA scientists say the channel is one of the main reasons they sent Curiosity to Mars. They believe it was carved out by streams of water mixed with debris, as evidenced by the rounded rocks found in the channel that were likely shaped by the flow of water, like river stones. Some rocks also have white halo markings, which also indicates water.

Fraeman said it will take more time to figure out what the discovery could mean about the kind of environment that once existed in the area.

"Right now, we're kind of analyzing all of the data we collected and trying to figure out what observations we can make that can either support or cross off some of these environments," she said.

Curiosity searches for evidence of life on Mars

The discovery came on the 4,208th Martian day of Curiosity's mission, NASA said. The rover landed on the planet's surface nearly 12 years ago with the objective of investigating whether Mars was ever habitable.

And it succeeded – early in the mission, Curiosity uncovered chemical and mineral evidence that the planet's environment was previously habitable for small life forms known as microbes.

"We've certainly found with Curiosity that Mars was not only once habitable, but it was habitable for an extended period of time," Fraeman said.

In 2018, Curiosity found organic molecules in a crater that scientists believe was once a shallow lake. The molecules, similar to the molecular building blocks of Earth's oil and gas, showed that the crater was habitable 3.5 billion years ago, around the same time that life developed on Earth under similar conditions.

The $2.5 billion rover is packed with a wide range of tools, including 17 cameras, and 10 science instruments, including spectrometers, radiation detectors, and sensors to probe the Martian atmosphere and environment.

Fraeman said Curiosity has held up surprisingly well – all of its instruments are working as well as the day it landed. Still, the terrain is filled with surprises.

"On Mars, something catastrophic could happen any day," she said. "We always treat every day as if it's precious."

Gen Muhammed who narrated his discovery when he appeared before the Jos high court, on Wednesday, as principal witness, said late Gen Alkali was gruesomely murdered and his body dismembered before he was buried in shallow grave. According the star witness, “Late Gen Alkali left Abuja for Bauchi en route Jos in 2018, while on transit, he made the last call around Dura Du village in Jos South. And from that moment, his phone went off. He never got to Bauchi and he could not be accessed on phone. Three days after, his family had to declare him missing, that was on 3rd of September 2018. “I was the garrison commander with the 3 division of the Nigerian Army, and I was tasked to conduct a search and rescue operation. My task was to do three things; to find Gen Alkali dead or alive; to find his vehicle black Toyota Corolla with MUN 679 AA; and to find whoever is responsible for his sudden disappearance. “I was given one Major General and 30 soldiers to carry out the task. We searched all the hospitals, Police station without result. We went to MTN for search and discovered that his phone was switched off in Dura, Du village. That was how we centered our search operations in that village. “In the village, we searched about 32 mining ponds, but information available to us made us to concentrate on the particular one. But the youths of the village mobilised about 500 women to protest against us searching the pond. But in spite of those initial resistance from the locals, we continued with our assigned task. “We had to go to Taraba state to get Fire service trucks and some divers from Bauchi and after intensive labor for two weeks, we succeeded in evacuating water from the pond and on the 29th of September discovered Gen Alkali Toyota Corolla from the pond. Inside the vehicle, we saw his uniform, shirt, shoe, cap with his name on them. “We continued our search in the pond, on the 1st of October, we saw a bus in the pond whose driver was declared missing 7 years earlier. We also saw a Rover car, red color, the owner resides in Bisichi, he was declared missing in the same village. Inside that pond were Tipper lorry, Tricycles, motorcycles etc. “Having discovered his vehicle, the next was to find his body. We intensified in our intelligence, and got one of the suspects who led us to the shallow grave where the remains of Gen Alkali were initially buried by the killers. The suspects confessed that after killing Gen Alkali, his body was dragged round the village before taking him to a location called “no man’s land” and buried him in shallow grave. “We went to Abuja to bring our sniffer dog, we cultured the dog with his shirt for 3 days. Then we took the dog to “no man’s land”. We discovered they had already moved the body from that grave. “Further search made us to understand that the killers got the service of a mortician who evacuated the body and packaged it in two bags. We got the mortician, he led us to one Mr Stephen, and Mr Stephen eventually led us to another village called Buchwet which is 10km away from Dura-Du. That was where the remains of Gen Alkali was dumped, we recovered the body on the 30th October 2018. “To be sure the body we recovered was that of Gen Alkali, we contracted a renowned pathologist to carry out thorough examination on the remains. The pathologists rearranged the entire body to show us how he was killed. “Study shows that the killers sliced the skull into two, and pieced all parts of his body. That showed us he was gruesomely murdered by the suspects. The pathologist further requested for Gen Alkali ex-ray from the wife, and it matched what we recovered.

He also went to the shallow grave where Gen Alkali was first buried to fetch the sand from the grave to also confirmed the petsone buried there was Gen Alkali.” The second witness, Major Arashinga Bulus, a serving in army officer in Abuja, also narrated his role in the search and rescue team and confirmed that 21 persons were arrested in connection with the killing of Gen Alkali.
