As much as I would like for more ppl to join tumblr I feel the need to point out that the reason ppl are going to the rednote/redbook app in addition to being petty to the US government banning tiktok bc Zuckerberg is mad about ppl not using meta as much, is bc rednote/redbook is the closest to the format of the tiktok app.

I know tumblr has an abundance of neurodivergent ppl who hate having video format of anything and prefer to read, but I need ppl to understand that a lot of disabled ppl use tiktok bc it's easier to communicate via video for their neurodivergence and hate having to read for the same reasons that ppl here hate video format.

Twitter and reddit were already reading based apps. Tiktok is video based. Similar apps would be youtube, spotify, (or Instagram/fb reels but everyone who is worth anything on that app and not running a business won't go there if they can help it)

Those ppl will never come to tumblr and it's nothing against us at all, simply what works better for their brain. That's why the switch to rednote/redbook isn't too hard. They are doing limited reading anyways.

And as for the rest, well, tiktok has a unique format that you can't really glean from the videos that make it outside.

Similar to how our reblog chains and memes are unique, tiktoks has stitches, reposts (that function like reblogs without comment/free way to blaze posts) and comment replies and viral sounds.

Lemon8, & Neptune were both being talked about as replacements but lemon8 is more like Instagram in design, and Neptune isn't ready yet, especially for android users.

Rednote/redbook is the most similar to tiktok even with the language barrier

I find it so funny, in light of TikTok’s imminent American demise, that even now they aren’t considering moving to tumblr. The last two social media refugee crises (Twitter -> X and whatever happened with Reddit) prompted a wave of wide-eyed new baffled tumblr users to flood this app and yet last I heard all of the tiktokers are flooding en-masse a Chinese social media app. That is entirely in Mandarin. Instead of moving to tumblr.
