Short: Never Leave us Merlin!
Merlin: Ok, so I assigned Edward to be your servant for the week. And I had-
Arthur: Really Merlin, Camelot won't fall apart if you're gone for a few days.
Merlin: 🤨 *Sceptical but finishing cleaning up Arthur's bed*
Merlin: *Rolls eyes* Well, if that is all. Take care of yourself and I'll be back in the week.
Arthur: *Nods* Be sure to tell Hunith my regards.
Merlin: *Smiles*
Arthur: *Blushes*
Merlin: Lancelot, I'm heading to Ealdor. Finally got the Prat to let me have my days off. But I hate to ask this, can you please keep an eye on Arthur for me?
Lancelot: Of course my friend. You can count on me.
Merlin: No seriously Lance, this is Arthur we're talking about. With him you'll need to keep constant vigilance.
Lancelot: It'll be OK Merlin. I promise, nothing will happen to Arthur while you're away.
Merlin: *Deeply sceptical but seriously needs a vacation*
Merlin: OK.
Lancelot: 😊 Have faith. How much trouble can Arthur get into within a week?
[ONE WEEK LATER]
Merlin: *Back from Ealdor*
Camelot: MERLIN'S BACK! *Cue cries of relief*
Leon: Thank the gods! *Grabs Merlin before he could protest and informs him of the others*
[KING'S CHAMBERS]
Merlin: 😑 Arthur...
Arthur: *Looks away*
Merlin: 💢 Arthur James Pendragon, tell me why Gwaine and half of your council are in the dungeons, and why Lance is in the corner crying and- IS THAT AN ARROW IN YOUR ARM?!!! ‼️😠🗯️
Arthur: *Sweats* 💦
Lancelot: *Mumbling* It all happened so fast... The first day was fine it was normal.. Then.. Then.. 😭😭
Leon the only Sane One left: Then Arthur didn't like the servant serving him, firing them on the spot. Next came Gwaine commenting on Arthur looks without Merlin around. Then they started arguing and Gwaine went into the dungeons to prove some point about something.
Arthur: *Mutters* He said I wouldn't last a day. Told him he can't last sober.
Merlin: 🤨
Leon: *Sighs long suffering* Then a sorcerer, no more then a young boy came trying to kill Arthur and failed. He fell over Arthur's messy room and knocked himself unconscious.
Merlin: 😦
Leon: Next the council wanted to burn the boy but Arthur wouldn't have it and tossed half of them in the dungeons.
Merlin: 😑
Arthur: 😅
Leon: And today, when training, An assassin tried to kill Arthur and would have succeeded if not for the sorcerer boy who was again attempting to kill Arthur but moved him out of the way slightly instead.
Merlin: 😓 And where is Gaius?
Leon: There is a birth happening in the lower town.
Merlin: ... Get my Medical Bag and I'll take care of the wound. *Sighs* I was only gone for a week...
Lancelot: And Never again.
Arthur and Leon: *Nods*
Camelot: Never Leave us Merlin!

Arthur travels back in time to save Merlin (from becoming a tree) AU
LINKS TO THE OTHER PARTS OF THIS AU HERE: PART 1 , PART2 (You're here) , PART 3
The king of Camelot goes to visit his magic tree before his next battle. This isn't new. He always visits it. But it will be the last time he does it.
Arthur: (caressing the bark of the tree with a hand)It's finally time. I'm sorry it took so long. (sighs) And I'm sorry I have to do this.
He knows he's being selfish. Camelot is better than ever, his people is happy and yet he's going to war, risking this era of peace. A war he knows he won't come back from. But it's necessary.
Gwen: (arriving) Arthur...
Arthur: I won't change my mind, Guinivere
Gwen: I know. I just want to understand. Arthur, why? The price is too high and the chance it might work too slim. And even if it does work, you are risking that everything you know, everything you built will never happen.
Arthur: It's a risk I'm willing to take. I can prevent so many things from happening, not only Merlin's fate, but Gawain's, Elyan's, Lancelot's-
Gwen: Don't pretend you're not doing this just for him, Arthur, I'm not a fool.
Arthur: ...
Gwen: He wouldn't want you to do this. And you know it.
Arthur: Yeah, well, he didn't care about what I wanted when he made that stupid deal.
It's been ten years since Merlin saved his life and was cursed to be a tree forever as a payback. He was now a majestic beautiful tree in the royal garden and the most valuable national treasure in Camelot due to its magical properties: It could give fruits with the ability to cure all ills and the most serious wounds, but also could give ones with the most letal poison. Its wood was the finest. Once it let some branches fall for its king before an important battle and the weapons that were made with them are still as good as new to this day. Though Arthur did his part, he knows Camelot probably would not have obtained the title of the greatest, richest and most prosperous kingdom if it weren't for his Merlin.
However, not everything was sunshine and rainbows. Like every treasure it was also coveted by everyone who wanted to use it for their own selfish purposes. Kingdoms envious of his power sent spies to try to steal its fruits, its branches and even to try to cut it down to leave Camelot defenseless. Others even tried to invade Camelot just to posses the magic tree, but Camelot's army was the strongest in all Albion so they never could and soon they stopped trying.
There was a time they almost got too close though. Once Arthur found a man holding an ax stuck deep in Merlin's trunk. He has gone so mad with fury, he almost beat the man to death if it weren't because his knights stopped him before he made the final blow. He was still livid after that, but he let Gwen handle the man's trial, because he knew he wouldn't be reasonable in the state he was in. In the end the man was sentenced to beheading. It was what the law decreed since touching the King's tree was by law an act of treason. The king who sent the spy had to make a public apology and give monetary compensation to avoid a war. Arthur did make sure the spy's head was cut of with his own ax though. Later, when he was alone with his tree, Arthur cried because he almost lost Merlin again. The king apologised to him over and over again between sobs and cried until he fell asleep at the tree's roots.
It was then when it hit him. One day he would die and there won't be anyone to protect Merlin from greedy people who will only use his power for their own gains. Merlin would be at his new owner's mercy and the one after that, and the one after that, forever without being able to do anything about it. The mere thought made Arthur sick to his stomach.
No, he won't allow that to happen.
Gwen: (with teary eyes) Aren't we happy?
Arthur: Don't say that. You have always made me happy.
Gwen: (laughs weakely) But he made you happier, didn't he?
Arthur: ...
Gwen: You never told me. Which were Merlin's last words.
Arthur: I love you... he said I love you.
Gwen: Oh... (smiles) I get it now. Alright I'll help you. Just promise me something.
Arthur: Anything.
Gwen: Don't feel bad if you can't prevent other people from dying. In fact, you don't have to do it. Just save Merlin.
Arthur: But-
Gwen: No, you have done so much for this kingdom and sacrifice so much. (cradling his face) You owe us nothing and you owe me nothing, alright? Just be happy.
They hugged each other tightly and they share their last kiss and I love you before Arthur finally went to bloodiest battle he'll ever had in his life. And, after killing 100 hundred enemy soldiers with his blade, the king of Camelot died at the early age of forty.
Later Percival and Leon retrieve the king's corpse and bring it before their queen who doesn't share a tear despite being broken inside. She orders for his late husband to be buried next to his tree instead of burned in a pyre, proclaming that's what the king would have wanted. The real reason however is more complex than that.
The night after the funeral, she secretly brings the druids her husband consorted for years to the royal garden for the ritual to be made. Before the tree, as was planned, is the Ancient Round Table of the Ancient Kings.
Druid1: A sword with the blood of 300 hundred man.
Gwen: (gives excalibur to him)
Druid2: Three dragon scales.
Percival: (gives them to her)
Druid3: And the corpse of a king. We have everything.
Leon: Will this really work?
Druid1: This ritual had only worked once in the times of the ancient kings and only because it was done by three of the most powerful sorcerers of that time. We are not that powerful.
Druid2: However, we have a great magic source (she points the tree). So it might work.
It worked! That's Arthur's first thought when he opens his eyes again and finds himself in his room 20 years younger.
....
HIII!! First of all I want to thank you all for giving the first post so much love! I was truly shocked because I didn't think the AU was that good, so I'm really glad you liked it. I hope this kind of sequel/prequel? was of your liking too.
I don't think I'm going to make this a full fic yet, but I can make snippets like this about this AU until then.
What else would like to see happening in this AU? Let me know in the comments or reblogs ;)

Requester ⇨ [Hi this is my first time. Can I ask for Lancelot and Tristan (separately) with sassy bubbly s/o who they’ve known their whole life and how their relationship is like. If it’s not to much could you add their nicknames for each other and the cute things they do for their s/o Thank you.]
Heyyyy! Happy to be the very first one you requested! We can always depend on these two boys for the fluff :D also sorry if you see the way my posts are set up, I'm trying to find something to work with that I feel okay with.
Content || grammar errors, sassy banter, fluff, headcanons, gender-neutral reader.
𝙲𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚘𝚗, 𝚋𝚎 𝚖𝚢 𝚋𝚊𝚋𝚢 (𝚌𝚘𝚖𝚎 𝚘𝚗!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tristan generally loves you very much, even before the two of you were official! But every time you exude such a sassiness that he cannot, he can't help but laugh. The prince of Liones he may be, but you can just call him the prince of laughter. He can't help it, it sets him off every time!
There is one main similarity between the both of you, and that is your bubbly sides. Lots of your friends and even both your families just make major comparisons this way, which you never seem to hear the end of. Tristan however just loves when you can seem so happy, kind and full of life.
The one strengthening factor behind your relationship, is that you two have known each other for as long you can remember since childhood and even into your teenage years. Tristan knows every little detail; what you like, what you dislike, what you hate and your favorite memories. He can't really help but be in-love with every single aspect of you.
Tristan does worry quite a lot when you are out on missions, but he does often get reminded about how resilient you can be - especially with the amount of comments you make in combat. The nephilim is still left with worry though even when you do come back; did you get injured, burned, or imprisoned? the amount of things run ample through his mind enough.
He is a very avid and proud lover, just like his father. Though he is less perverted, as he doesn't want to make you uncomfortable. Tristan always likes to be very open about his love toward you, even if he does find himself with a blushing expression.
with all lovers, there is a connection that trescends the apparent obvious understanding. The way you know Tristan like the back of your hand when he is happy, or worried. The way he knows you when you are bashful or even sad.
He is unusually reminded and wonders if you have a lack of moral guidance when you are quite sassy, not even barring to hold back the blunt words that spill from your lips towards enemies and knights of chaos. Tristan wonders just what had happened to you when he had not been around in each other's earlier years.
Even if there are things about yourself that your insecure, Tristan is that kind of boy that will love all your insecurities for you. He has enough love going around, so he will love those as well. The prince will not take your self-deprecation if he doesn't at least refute it every time with a compliment, he hates when you see yourself that way.
In the privacy of his room, he certainly sees a side to you that no one else would be able to. You're far more soft and albeit grumpier when sleepy, but lots and lots of cuddles ensue, though somewhat whine and complain that he can be a bit cold.
If you end up sick, he just ruffles and pats your hair when you complain about it with snarky and sassy comments. But he won't just stop there, Tristan will help you work through it. Soup, warm cloth and even drawing you a bath.
Sometimes in tense moments, just to stay grounded, you two mouth to one another: 'I love you'. It generally helps, quite a lot. As he does find emotions difficult to deal with often, but just saying that alone helps him stay tethered to the earth.
This nephilim loves, loves, loves to give you gifts. In about anything, he finds that reminds him of you is something he will give to you as a gift. Tristan does hope that you don't find this annoying though, he just cares about you very much.
He knows you can defend yourself when being insulted, so when you fire one right back -- he just smiles. Tristan can't help but be proud, he doesn't know why but he just is. He loves when you don't just take it, and defend yourself (if verbally, or even physically).
Tristan loves holding hands with you if possibly, only particularly at appropriate times. The prince is very huge on PDA, and loves being affectionate with you. Though he often hears a lot of jesting from you whilst you hold hands with him, Tristan knows, and just grins.
You most likely lead half the conversations, seemingly always able to find something to say. He doesn't mind, and occasionally gives input when he feels he needs too. He isn't an avid talker most of the time, and tends to be quite formal anyway, so he just opts for listening to you. There are always jokes in each and every one of your conversations, your the one making them.
In the more quiet moments, Tristan and you will dance together. Maybe even bumble over each other's footsteps and laugh about it, and touching each other's foreheads and talking about things that bother you or things that brightened your day.
However, it doesn't mean your the only talker. Tristan may be quiet when you talk, but he can have a lot of things to say as well. Though he always just wants you to know he's actually listening to the things your saying.
Tristan isn't much of a nickname giver, but he does have many affectionate nicknames he reserves just for you alone; angel, darling, my love, and my light.
However the nicknames he has for you when you are being completely sassy are different; grizzly, my little philosopher, biscuit, and sunshine. However he always means them with love, he swears! Tristan generally just calls you these nicknames, and you just get even sassier. He loves it.
The two of you play into each other's playful sides, which can be a bit worse for wear, but it always ends up with memories you can look back on with fondness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You two can quite literally be the perfect match for eachother, considering how laid-back and playful he can be at times, so the both of you are always met with back and forth comments from one another. Sometimes, there is a point to where the others are still surprised that you both have the energy to behave toward each other in such a way.
Lancelot does admire your more bubbly aspects however, and somewhat envies you for it. He wishes he can still have that energy, back to his earlier years of childhood with you. Lancelot can't match it as easily anymore, but he is reminded very fondly every time that side of you comes out. His gaze always lingers on you, not daring to stray for as long as possible, he always wants to burn those expressions into memory.
Beyond the relationship, even before knowing you, he feels a deep sense of despair as if something will happen. Something beyond his control, he feels that with each and every person he comes to hold dear of course. But with you, it delves even deeper, even more worse than before. Lancelot feels at a loss when this feeling surfaces, reminding him of previous failures (lance, please be kind to yourself). He is unsure when this sentiment truly comes to pass. Sometimes even with your sunshine, he still is reminded.
Whenever and however, if Lancelot ends up being the victim of your sassy comments, he just shrugs it off and continues the conversation. It just often shocks others as he usually is quick to bite back, but it didn't happen this time around, not with you.
It helps wholly, that he had known you for as long as he could remember. So even before being official, Lancelot can remember even the most seemingly insignificant details about you. Anything that he remembers, is something he considers of large importance after all. So maybe one day your met with a gift, something you mention offhandedly you liked, just one time. He looks away and says it was just something he saw on the way back, Lancelot will not admit he actually remembered that.
He isn't necessarily a touchy person compared to his father, but Lancelot will hold your hand if you wanted to, with very grumpy comments. You just tease him when he does accept it, to which he just lazily refutes.
Lancelot will defend you if you happen to be insulted, but if you do end up defending yourself, he happily accepts that with a proud-ass smile. He knows you can defend yourself verbally, but the comments you fire right back inspire him. New material for insults.
Often, he ends up cooking for you. You will not find him actually willingly doing that for anyone else, but you alone. Lancelot remembers few of your favorite recipes off the top of his head, so he cooks the appropriate meal concurrent with the time of the day. He definitely had inherited his ability to cook so well from his father, but had made it even better the more he had cooked.
On missions, he tends to worry about you. Out of habit, as he doesn't want anyone he cares about to get hurt, will shadow you the best he can. If he is able to of course, other times he will simply have to trust that you can take care of yourself and come back okay.
Lancelot is a quiet and subtle lover, but you can very much tell easily how much he loves you through acts of service (I will continuously iterate that he is an acts of service lover, sue me). He often will do chores on your behalf, or even patrol with you as often as he can, he can't really find himself doing anything else otherwise lest he actually has something he needs to prioritize.
Sometimes he actually hates that you can understand him, like 'how or why do you know this about me so easily?' You should be far away from his heart. Yet, you wormed so far in and deeply into his heart that he cares for you in a way he would no one else. Lancelot in turn does understand you as well as you do him, so he can catch even the smallest things. Example for telling, that subtle shift in your demeanor.
Such subtle things aren't left unnoticed by either you or Lancelot. maybe his jaw is clenched for some reason, you lightly tell him to unclench. He does. What if your hand was tightened and formed into a fist? Lancelot gently taps the knuckle of your hand with the back of his finger, curled in a way of subtle worry.
It's as if a complete shift in your demeanor when you are insecure (be it very few, or plenty), he will softly tell you something completely positive as an opposite. Lancelot finds it reassuring he was born with the ability to read hearts, i.e the mind in extension. Your thoughts are something that are much easier to read when you have bouts of these moments, and it is much easier for him to help you through it. He understands in a way, but hopes that you can overcome such insecurities one day.

I think it would be pretty interesting to see Arthur (who accepts Merlin for who he is) post magic reveal but like, it isn’t post legalized magic yet and to see him have to deal with it. Like, I think Arthur would have a pretty hard time to deal with the casual ‘magicphobia’ of everyone (especially if it’s post Lancelot death and factually he is the only one to know except Gaius) and like he can’t out Merlin without his consent.
Basically Arthur getting increasingly angrier and frustrated about the fact that he is protective towards Merlin but he can’t show it or express it (and in the area where he used to think he protected Merlin he wasn’t even actually necessary).
Especially since Merlin got used to insults towards his people.
(You can imagine Arthur fuming at around the fire as the knights mock magic user tradition and fuming even more when he finally see that Merlin has a strange ‘blank face’ whose he used to never be able to recognize the source of and now he does and he is mad—)
And like I don’t even want to see Arthur lashing out towards anyone, I think it would be kind of neat to have Arthur fuming and angrily mumbling about it near Merlin and just to have merlin softly smile because he isn’t alone anymore and Arthur, Arthur, knows.
He wishes for more but right now it’s enough.

hello..👋👋
as someone who wants to get into arthurian legends.. where do you think I should start? is there a precise canon to follow? oh and.. this might be a stupid question but.. how would you describe guinevere's and lancelot's relationship...? i personally really like them because of what I've heard online, but i got shamed for liking it a while ago from people who really hated guinevere and said gawain or galehaut(not sure if i spelled it right) would be better for lancelot..
Hello anon!
I have a Beginner’s Guide to Medieval Arthuriana pinned on my blog. There’s no precise canon to follow, but you’ll get the most bang for your buck reading the works of Chrétien de Troyes and the Vulgate Cycle. Much of what Chrétien developed ended up in the Vulgate, like Lancelot rescuing Guinevere from kidnapping, but there are more elements added from other stories, such as Lancelot’s upbringing in the lake which originated from Lanzelet by Ulrich von Zatzikoven. On the other hand, Yvain’s journey as Knight with the Lion doesn’t make it into the Vulgate, so that’s worth reading on its own.
Regarding the part about people shaming you: block them if you haven’t already and anyone else who does so in future. I’m terribly sorry those people were unwelcoming as you begin to read and learn about Arthurian Legend. Let that not reflect on the community as a whole—there’s many lovely people here that’ll be happy to help you along. I hope you’re able to cultivate a positive online experience to the best of your ability and start enjoying the legends with us! :^D
But back to the fun stuff—I also really like Guinevere/Lancelot! My favorite dynamic is when Arthur is included too, but Guin is my number one pick for Lancey. ;^) It’s hard to describe them in so few words but I think it’s important to establish that they’re friends. This is an oft overlooked aspect that really deserves attention. They care for each other deeply. She helps him out of his madness and he helps her out of danger. This is something Arthur couldn’t do for either of them, much as he wanted to. That’s what makes the pair special, to me.
As for shipping wars about medieval characters….kinda ridiculous! And shaming other people over it is just abhorrent. I’m sorry you had to deal with that! Personally I enjoy Arthur/Guinevere/Lancelot and Galehaut/Lancelot. I think it’s obvious I favor Gawain with his wife Ragnelle lol but Gawain/Lancelot is fine too. Gawain can have a little Lancelot. As a treat. I even enjoy “crackship” type pairings, like Bedivere/Lancelot or Kay/Lancelot or maybe a little [unrequited] Agravaine/Lancelot, and if the author or filmmaker chooses to write her in a positive light, Elaine/Lancelot as well. But that’s just it—there’s certainly no such thing as a “better” person(s) to couple with Lancelot. It’s literally fake. It’s fiction. It’s for fun! Doesn’t sound like the people you’ve encountered were having very much fun and put that on you, which was wrong.
Here I’d like to mention I run a discord server called the Arthurian Theater Server. Every weekend I stream TV shows and movies, mostly Arthurian, sometimes random fantasy. But it’s more than visual media—my friends and I share resources, character playlists, art we made, stories we wrote, we’ll liveblog retellings or newly discovered medlit translations, and discuss anything else Arthurian! We have custom made emojis for all the knights and ladies, a variety of original art stickers of the characters provided by several members, and an array of sounds bites ripped from films and TV for the soundboard to be played while streaming. Tumblr can be a little hard to navigate with the unreliable tag system, so this server is dedicated to an organized and moderated exchange of ideas and content. You’re welcome to join us!
Let me know if you have any other questions, it’s never a bother. Take care!

The Military Personalities
I was talking with @ike-garden2024 about how Ray would have this military personality and I was asked to go into some detail. So, without further ado, here’s my fun as an old military kid. Most of this is sorta how I see them and relate them to different military people I’ve seen, or just the general stereotype.
I don’t have anything for Seth (I don’t know him well enough), Lancelot (eh, I like his character, but as highest rank, sorta hard for me to think of anything) and Kyle (dude is the military doctor. He isn’t even the one who is carrying men through the battlefield like some of the badasses. If you know Hatchfield Ridge, then you know what I’m saying.)
Tumblr media
Ray: Ray is definitely the charismatic leader type who definitely knows how to play the part of whatever role he needs. He is definitely the type who has cursed and does rather freely (especially on his free time.) He curses particularly around the lower ranked men since that’s sorta the norm for that ranking, and not cursing just makes you stand out. Around the Red Army or in officer meetings, Ray is absolutely able to curb the cursing. Has probably stood against previous officers when he was in lower ranks, challenging them when he thought they were wrong. Gladly did pushups when punished.
Sirius: I will use a lot of knowledge about an actual US Army unit, the 77th, so I highly recommend watching the Fat Electrician for a LOT of background. Sirius is absolutely one of those I will say has that old bastard aspect to him. He is without a doubt a get it done type, a guy who stands out from the younger guys in the rank. I sorta wanna believe that all the guys in his unit are also in the older age bracket of the Black Army, just for fun. (Fuck Cybird canon here, Old Bastard canon) His unit tends to avoid taking pows, it’s a pain to deal with.
Luka: The officers’ brat who literally ended up like a normal person and managed to get the respect of others around him. Rare, cause no one likes officers and their children. The wives are worse.
Fenrir: He absolutely forgot what rank an officer was when he first joined and instead of learning who was what, he just dropped down and did pushups the second they walked into the room. (Normal military punishment if you fail to address a higher rank.)
Jonah: Hands down, he is definitely that one officers’ brat who got into college and ended up being an officer in the military. Since it’s Cybird, he’s the good one, but they are usually pricks who can’t handle the pressure of the job. I have to nerf him a bit (screw Cybird’s military,) he definitely wasn’t a great officer when he first started. Because of his attitude, he was actually more of a thorn in Lancelot’s side than help.
Edgar: Canonically, he is that officer who has broken the law and seriously somehow managed to never get caught. How the fuck? Why the fuck? If it wasn’t for Cybird, this mf (lovingly said) would be dishonourably discharged and sent to federal prison for every war crime committed.
Zero: Probably a little too serious when he joined the ranks. Learned nearly everything he could without regular breaks. Has definitely irritated the other recruits by his overzealousness. Literally had difficulties when he was given officer position, because no one felt he was qualified. Why was he more qualified than another soldier?

Imagine being siblings with Guinevere and Lancelot, running away after their siblings ran away and kinda having to live as a wanderer and we're honestly having fun, then boom we meet the 4saken light.
If it's a older sibling reader I can see them treating Melissa,Yin and Julian as their siblings and being kinda like a parent to them and Xavier is falling hard for us, cue to the kids setting them up.
If it's a younger sibling reader- Julian, Melissa and Yin has a crush on them because reader is so nice, compassionate and smart. It's a love square. Xavier has to deal with these lovesick teenagers + a oblivious one.
Guin and Lance are both protective in both versions
Older! Reader would be the shield between their little siblings Lancelot and Guinevere. Lancelot comes sprinting to Older! Readers side and slides onto their lap to cover himself from Guinevere seeing him. Older! Reader would just chuckle and use the book that they had been reading and blocks Lancelot from Guinevere who just came to the room and looks around to his brother.
Older! Reader would be devastated after the lose of their siblings and just lives the life of a wanderer. Older! Reader uses a different name to cover their family name but their godly face and hair is just gives everything away. Meeting the 4saken light was pure coincidence, Yin was the first one you met after helping him out from the trouble he got himself into it and in return he invites you to join the 4saken light.
Older! Reader would be so skilled in every weapon and hand to hand combat, Yin and Melissa would pester the reader to teach them and Julian is just silently standing there with his eyes shining hoping you would accept their offer. Xavier is just on the side shaking his head in disappointment and quietly offers you that he could take the kids them away if they bother you but you just shake your head smile which makes the corner of his lip tug up to a small smile.
cue Xavier finding it so hard to confess his love to you which catches Melissa's eye, she tells others to set you two up with a perfect plan. Yin giving you a really stupid and obvious reason to leave you alone with Xavier, Julian is beside Yin and quietly nodding at every of his words even if they're full on stupid. You find the light elf leaning against to tree with a ligh blush covering his cheeks and probably thinking about you.
Younger! Reader being the diamond of the house and having everyone looking at them with awe. Lancelot and Guinevere being always by your side and constantly praising you whilst throwing silent glares to those who dares to come near you. Lancelot even daring to point his sword at anyone he sees looking at you with malicious intend, Guinevere..she has never been so scary before.
Younger!Reader just couldn't be able to take anymore and running away from everything and starting to live as a wanderer. Being young didn't put you into a disadvantage at learning magic instead you improved it even more, making your magic much more stronger than those who at your age. Mainly it was Guinevere who helped you with magic, Lancelot would often steal you away from magic lessons to taught you the way of the sword.
It was Melissa who set her eyes on you first, instantly falling in love with you too. Just, just a small crush. After making a tiny chat and getting to know eachother Melissa offers you to join 4saken light which you accept.
Younger!Reader being slightly insecure to meet the rest of the group because they never really got the chance to social with other people because of their protective siblings. Yin was so easy to get along with, he has so many things to talk about and is warm-blooded. Julian however wanted to observe you first, it would be a lie if he said that you didn't interested him. Xavier was welcoming, even told Julian to not scare you too much.
Yin's crush on you is pretty obvious as he is always trying to strike a conversation with you and blushes like a strawberry at any physical contact with you. Julian is..silent as usual but he suddenly talked a bit more when alone with you. He was already protective over his friends but when it came to you he's suddenly acting a bit more aggressive whilst protecting you. Melissa's puppets are always accompanying you, she even made you yours, isn't she's so thoughtful <3 ? Above the others she lives physical contact and is always hanging on your shoulders, draping herself onto you. Xavier is... honestly tired seeing them so lovesick. There was one time where Xavier found all you four sleeping whilst leaning onto eachother. Yin on your left, Julian on the right, you between them and Melissa leaning onto your chest.

As someone who has watched a few Arthurian adaptations, I was immediately intrigued by „Gwen & Art are not in love“ by Lex Croucher.
I mean ur telling me we get the Arthurian myths in combination with a medieval queer love story ?!
Even though I nowadays tend to have problems starting printed literature this one flew by and I finished reading in the span of a day and a bit.
To start not only is the story great but I’m also a big fan of the cover art <3
We get not only the exploration of the queer love stories between Gwen & Bridget and Art & Gabriel but also growing Friendships and some battle action fitting for the Middle Ages.
Next to the fighting it does also have some minor alcohol abuse and partly deals with death. And since it’s the Middle Ages and people just love hating other people, the mentions of queerness etc are not always positive.
Im personally a big fan of how all the relationships evolve and the people change :)
Spoilers for the plot of the book!
Little rant from me :|
Although it was a great read and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, I must admit that the typical plot of:
character a either did something accidentally wrong or is said to have done something wrong (although that’s false) and character b immediately believing that and now judging/having a grudge against/hating character a. Which then only confuses character a who doesn’t get any information from anyone around them to what they’re said to have done wrong and is jsut lost and hurt. Especially after things are jsut starting to look right between the characters.
It’s not that it is that unbelievable that it happens (it’s here and there) but more that sometimes it just annuls like every character growth the two or more characters had together and after there is never really a apology or an acknowledgment of this being hurtful to character a, since it jsut confirms taht character b would be easily able to believe this about character a. And my biggest fight with this trope is that the friend of always tend to just side with character b although they’re often both they’re friends or even character a‘s friends.
Luckily it’s not that big of a part on the book but it tends to really ick me when reading something which is really great.
Personally I just loved how Arthur helped both siblings more or less take some responsibility and self control for their own desires and life wishes. It was interesting to see the differences in how they acted around being queer, since they were raised very similar but oh so different.
Also just some special mention of my boy Sidney: he’s not only the most loyal person in the story but also is just a really amazing best friend to Arthur all while he also has his own little love story :)
It may be extremely simple but I loves the conversation Art and Sidney had about the pendant („it’s cold and black jsut like my heart“ „no, your heart is soft and yellow, like marzipan“😭)
Some other favourites of mine: we have a map of Camelot :), Bridget’s witch friend, the court magician, Excalibur nine 🙂‍↕️, everyone in the castle thinking Gwen and art were getting intimate, Gabriel’s more or less obsession with birds, background gay King Arthur/Lancelot, Agnes <3
Sometimes it was really frustrating how oblivious and sheltered Gwen was but seeing that she had not had any friends (not sure if it was explained) and also did not leave the castle, it seems realistic enough that she turned out like this. Still hard to read at a few instances. But I could definitely see how she and Gabriel are siblings as they both are really afraid of dancing out of line.
Also Arthur definitely had enough self loathing and alcohol issues for the both of them. Like, my guy, when are u sober. And also they both were immature when they were younger since they’re were children (duh) but also like how should gwen have known taht ur dad is a fcking ass (just my opinion )
I definitely do love all of the main cast so that is not meant to bash any one of them. They’re just realistic and all have flaws (although I’m not sure about Bridget she is pretty perfect :3 only female knight, noble ladies tend to fall in love with her, strong and capable, knows her boundaries (especially with not wanting to be treated like a secondary thought by her lovers)and she wields Excalibur nine) and good features. :)
Not always the biggest fan of open endings but I think here it does work well although I would have loved to see the speech and followed reaction 🤷🏻 maybe we would have seen Merlin and Morgana get back from their sabbatical hm
Spoiler ending here!
So I know it sounds negative at a few instances but do read the book it’s great. I think it’s a very easily enjoyable story that really pulls u in and makes u feel as part of the group. :))
Thsi is not eloquent or the best review in any way just me somehow bringing my feelings and thoughts to screen :) 🪼🪻

★ Main Story | Act 13 - Budding Spring | Chapter 27 - Papa Crisis
Tumblr media
Banri: You guys can take a twenty-minute break here. Good work.
Masumi: The KniRoun Stage video is up.
Sakuya: Waah, it is!
Chikage: Lancelot’s pretty eye-catching.
Tsuzuru: He was even working on his sword fighting for KniRoun in between rehearsals. Must’ve been rough.
Banri: Nah, he was havin’ the time of his life, trust me.
Tumblr media
Citron: Itaru looks like he is having fun~.
Rento: Ooh~, his overseas debut, huh? Looks like he’s doin’ great.
Rento: Still, absolutely insane as hell that he’s comin’ back here right on openin’ day.
Izumi: It really, truly is…
Izumi: In the past, it would’ve been unthinkable to try and to this, but with the current Spring Troupe, I think we’ll be able to pull this plan, even with it cutting it so close.
Banri: Well, it’d be pretty nice to keep this kinda energy goin’ through openin’ day.
Tsumugi: I hope Itaru-kun was able to get to the airport safely.
Sakuya: It’s about time for his flight, right?
Chikage: Let’s check the chat.
*Phone notification*
Izumi: Ah, I just got a LIME from…
Itaru: “problem, can’t get on my flight, airport’s shut down bc of a strike.”
Tsuzuru: WHAT!?
Sakuya: A strike!? That won’t end any time soon…!
Tsumugi: Sometimes the end soon, but sometimes they go on for days. There’s no telling what will happen…
Banri: What’re we gonna do? I mean, we could get through openin’ day with an understudy, or delay it entirely, but…
Masumi: We considered a lot of factors when we picked the date of opening day. It’s the day that’ll give us the most views with the least competition from other troupes, so moving it should really be our last resort.
Izumi: Right… And refunding tickets would have a huge impact on our votes…
Izumi: We’ll still have to deal with refunds if we go for having an understudy, but the damage with that should be minimal.
Banri: Guess we gotta go with an understudy.
Sakuya: Um, can we at least wait until the very last minute?
Tumblr media
Tsuzuru: We want to wait for Itaru-san’s return for as long as we can. Can we at least do that, please?
Izumi: …
Tsumugi: I can be ready to sub in at any time, so don’t worry about it.
Sakuya: Thank you so much!
Chikage: I’m arranging a flight for him at another airport as we speak. With this one, he’ll be able to just barely make it in time for the start of the performance.
Chikage: Someone get into contact with Chigasaki and tell him to hurry to catch the bus.
Tsuzuru: On it!
Tsuzuru: “Itaru-san, please hurry to the nearby airport ASAP!”
Chikage: The next bus is leaving at--.
Citron: “I will give you a lucky chant so you will make it in time!”
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Announcement: “The plane has arrived at Narita Aiport two hours later than scheduled.”
Announcement: “We sincerely apologize for the delay in its arrival due to weather conditions. We offer our deepest condolences to those affected by the delay.”
Tumblr media
Itaru: (CITRON used Lucky Chant! The Lucky Chant shielded me from a critical hit…!)
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
UC: Run, Chigasaki.
Tumblr media
Itaru: (I am running!)
Saku: You can do it, Itaru-san!
Curry: director said she’s coming to pick you up
taruchi: dw abt it, it’ll be faster if i take a taxi
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Passerby A: Huh, is the line for getting a taxi really this long?
Passerby B: Probably because of a group of tourists~. Let’s just take the train.
Itaru: (Wait, the line for taxis is THIS long? Oh, I’m so screwed…)
Tumblr media
Itaru: (Should I ask Director-san to pick me up now?)
Itaru: (But I’m sure she’s busy getting everything ready for the start of the show. Not to mention, even if she comes now, we probably wouldn’t make it back in time for the start of the show anyway--.)

Merlin Loregasm Rewatch S1E10
Hi Everyone! Welcome to my rewatch of Merlin focusing on the lore. I am a giant nerd so pretty excited about this. We’re on THE MOMENT OF TRUTH
Tumblr media
LETS GO! This one doesnt have the most lore so I am finding little things to cover too. So goosekeeping. In Roman Britain keeping goose domestically was not a big thing. However, by early medieval times, it had very much increased. Merlin stands between these. So keeping geese makes sense. Geese also naturally fatten themselves for winter if left to do so. So are a good choice for a village that doesn't have much to spare in the way of cultivated food.
Tumblr media
Now in Feudalism one of the things that was a lord's responsability was basically making sure raiders did not come and do this. Of course, this was done with various degrees of success. Ealdor is a border region and from what we learn. While it is in Cenred's kingdom it does not seem to have a lesser noble of the kingdom ruling over it. It also must be far from Cenred's court. This would leave it far from any protection. Cenred would have more of an interest protecting villages that actually provided him food. (Thus kept up their side of the feudalism deal.) This is later reinforced when it is said they appealed to Cenred (And that their safety is his responsibility) but he cares little for the outlying regions.
Merlin doesn't actually show any lesser nobility that does not live in capital cities. It does however imply they exist. (See Lancelot for more on this) What I find interesting is that Ealdor was not raided before in recent memory. Or at least that it's not mentioned. I wonder if Merlin had anything to do with this.
Tumblr media
Funfact "gealdor" in old English means spell or charm or incantation while Ealdor itself means chief, leader, head of family. Prince or king, or Orgin or source. (The last one seems most likely as it is Merlin's place of origin. I cannot find anything about Aecitir Also while Uther is right sending an army over the border would be an act of war. He could VERY likely get away with sending some men as Arthur suggests. ESPECIALLY since there is little likelihood of any of Cenred's soldiers being in the area to know. Its possible if this audience was granted in private he might have risked doing so. And he could have said no and then sent soldiors secretly later BUT this is Uther we are talking about sooooo.
Tumblr media
*Screams in not as poor as most commoners Gwen family theory* I feel like I'm kicking a dead horse here but BEING ABLE TO GIVE PEOPLE WEAPONS AND ARMOR IS A BIG DEAL
Tumblr media
Morgana: Bring back memories of when I used to beat you
Arthur: That never happened.
So Morgana lost her father at age 10 I have no idea what age Arthur would have been but I'm inclined to believe Morgana and that Arthur made excuses or something. NOW Morgana knows how to fight so I think we need to ask how she was trained? Did Arthur practice with her? Or was she actually trained? From what we see in the show most noblewomen do not know how to fight with swords. So it is not a traditional part of their training in the Merlin world. (The only other noble woman we see using a weapon is Mithian with a crossbow on the hunt and her loving hunting is a rarity by Arthur's reaction.) Medieval woman often used bows on the hunt so this is "normal" There are examples of medieval woman warriors but they are fairly rare. I think Morgana got actual lessons in sword craft from knights and that is was an indulgence of her wanting to learn it by Uther.
Tumblr media
OKAY! So they keep chickens too! I'm guessing that they mostly keep them for eggs and perhaps meat very occasionally. Eggs would be a HUGELY valuable source of protein, Along with milk (Merlin mentions there being cows even if we do not see them in this episode) So from what we see, Merlin's diet growing up would have been milk, grains, eggs, and likely some fruits and vegetables as we saw those taken earlier. Perhaps every once in a while some meat.
Tumblr media
Confirmation most of the village did not know about Merlin's Secret. I gotta wonder what they thought when Hunith up and sent him seemingly defenseless on the same road we see so many bandits on. Actually Hunith makes her way to Camalot twice on her own though. So Bandaits just ignore peasants if they don't look like they have anything of value on them but if knights and rich people are around attack? I think that's the only explanation for how safe roads in Merlin seem to be for peasants without valuables and how dangerous for LITTERALY everyone else.
Tumblr media
Will: why did you Leave?
Merlin: It wasn't what I wanted. My mother was worried. When she found out you knew she was so angry.
Will: I wouldn't have told anyone.
We also know Hunnith said Merlin was at odds with people and Merlin later says you cannot always trust people. (There is also nearly dropping a tree on old man simons with magic.) This entire thing is interesting because Cenred does not hate magic like Uther does. He was fine with Morgouse. So it's quite possible magic is not illegal, or if those rules were in place once Cenred ignored him. Personally I think Hunith was afraid of Cenred taking Merlin and using him as a weapon. Perhaps there would have been a large reward for anyone who discovered a powerful magic user and brought the news to Cenred. This is just a theory of course. She also might have been afraid of someone putting together him being Balinor's son and that information getting out.
Tumblr media
Let's take a moment to look at the status of women in the Merlin world. Casual sexism is a thing ("You are such a girl's pedicoat , losing to a girl being bad, Arthur not wanting the woman to fight. ETC) but we sometimes see common women owning land and businesses (Mary's tavern that appears in the Gwaine episode. Alice being a healer.) And the old religion VERY much revered women. However, Female Knights don't seem to be a thing. In fact, As we addressed earlier girls being skilled in battle seems unusual (Though we it in a magic outlaw group once and Isolde. As well as Morgana and Morgouse) and killing them in battle is seen as particularly bad. However, like real medieval woman, they can participate in hunting ETC. They also CAN rule (Gwen, Morgana, Annis) Chastity does not seem as big a deal. Woman can be alone with men without bad comments. And they go where they want without escort. Olaf's behavior toward Vivian is viewed as excessive as well. However, I don't think most noble women have sex before marriage. (Talking about Arthurs's intentions being honorable Uther not trying to bed Katrina until their wedding knight.) While perhaps doing it is not such a big deal (Vivian talking about previous men being chased with knives, Uther urging Arthur to have fun while he can with Sofia) Unsure about commoners. Also I would guess Men inheriting before women is not a thing based on how Morgana is seen as a viable heir to the throne. Also by the size of families we see birth control is readily available. SO A huge improvement on the real middle ages. But casual sexism is still a thing.

My Merthur (Merlin) fics masterlist:
Decided to redo this list from scratch because I hadn’t updated the original in an age. Listed from my newest works to my oldest. All fics are linked to via the title. Should just be able to click to open them.
-Bleeding Gold (T | 3,865)
Merlin bleeds gold. Every time he is injured he has to hide it from any prying eyes.
Small excerpt: It's a simple cut that wouldn’t require more than a few stitches. If it were on one of the knights it would be no big deal. But on Merlin… The problem is, Merlin isn’t quite human in the way the others are. He’d been aware of this for a long time and it always irked him. But now it was especially apparent. As blood dripped from his arm in the shallow cut. It dripped gold.
-The servant god (G | 3,275)
When Merlin and Arthur get into an argument, Merlin reaches his wit's end. He blows up and confesses to Arthur before storming off. Now it is Arthur's turn to try and win him back
Based off of a post I had drafted on Tumblr but never actually published. Not used entirely verbatim in here but almost the same lines are there: Merlin gets frustrated one day and explodes into a rant about how Arthur treats him. Merlin: Do you even know who I am?! I am Emrys, Arthur! I am a God! Arthur: (scoffs and crosses arms) God of ineptitude maybe. Merlin: (glares then storms out leaving a trail of flames behind him)
-Becoming a god (G | 6,367)
The knights and Merlin stumble upon a shrine to Emrys in the woods. Merlin realizes, too late, that it may be more than just a simple shrine.
-How to pick a fight with your soulmate (G | 2,353)
Soulmate AU where your soulmate shares your pain every time you get hurt. This is how I imagine the market fight in the first episode would have gone had soulmates existed.
Small excerpt: “Do you want to give up?” Merlin yells. “To you?” Arthur asks as he backs away. Hoping sooner rather than later that this foolish man would hit himself with the mace he is swinging so wildly. “Do you? Do you want to give up?”
-Till death do us part (E | wip currently 50k+)
Stuck in an arranged marriage contract, struck before either were old enough to have a say, can Merlin and Arthur find any happiness in their inevitable partnership? With one being a sorcerer prince, and the other raised to despise sorcerers it seems doubtful.
This one is my baby, my love, my passion. But she is currently on a little hiatus. Will be back once I quit getting distracted.
-To know all of him (T | 4,307)
When Merlin and the knights get captured by a sorceress, Merlin is forced to take a truth serum. After revealing his secrets, will Merlin be able to regain the trust of the king and his knights?
Short excerpt: The sorceress growled, “Enough games, now answer! What is your biggest secret?” Merlin frowned, trying to fight off the serum, after several long moments of silence Merlin looses the battle and says quietly, “I have magic.” Anthea grins, “there now, was that so hard?” Lancelot winces but Arthur looks puzzled. Arthur, who had been observing the interaction with confusion finally chimes in with a cut off laugh.
-Hidden Talents (T | 19,755)
Modern with magic - Aithusa/dragonlord fic. Merlin and Arthur are roommates in uni. Arthur likes to complain about Merlin's appalling lack of a social life, using this as an excuse to take Merlin with him everywhere he goes. This is convenient for when Merlin is needed to protect Arthur from his own misfortune, but it does make it difficult to keep certain parts of himself hidden.
I definitely tend to write for myself and this is a prime example. I reread this one often, it makes me happy :)
-A Grain of Truth (M | 12,179)
Merlin and Arthur travel to an outlying village in Camelot seeking a stolen amulet. What they find is a thriving magical community with druids wandering the town's market freely. Unfortunately for Merlin, he is recognized as Emrys. How will Arthur respond when he finds out? Set somewhere in the midst of season 3.
-Camelot’s Protector (T | 5,632)
Camelot is forced to battle Essetir when Cenred's men invade. Merlin does his best to stay at Arthur's side when the battle begins, but Arthur is insistent that Merlin get to safety. Both refusing to cooperate, they get themselves into trouble and end up revealing more than they'd planned.
-The Role of Servants and Masters (G | 3,476)
Thomas is a new servant in Camelot's castle. Before today, he had only heard stories of the prince and his manservant. He had thought them to be the result of the castles working rumor mill, blowing them out of proportion. He will soon find out first hand just how true those stories were.
Small Excerpt: So far, Thomas knew that the Prince, Arthur, and his manservant, Merlin, were a bit of an oddity in the castle. Their relationship could not be described as that of a servant and his master. Instead, people described it as… well no one was quite sure. Prince Arthur gave Merlin orders, but those orders were either ignored or done begrudgingly. From what Thomas gathered, Merlin did follow the law, he just didn’t seem to adhere to the spirit of it.
Another one I reread often :)
-The Trouble with Soulmates (T | 17,774)
Arthur Pendragon is a famous actor, Merlin Emrys is a maths teacher. The chances of their paths crossing are slim to none. That is until Arthur sets them on a rather frustrating journey. Who knew that soulmates could be so troublesome.
-Not According to Plan (T | 2,294)
While out on patrol, Merlin, Arthur, and Elyan are ambushed by bandits. In order to fight them off, Merlin must use his magic. When one of the bandits cries 'Sorcerer', Merlin is faced with a tough decision. Caution is thrown to the wind, and Merlin is a badass.
-The Legend of Emrys (G | 4,801)
As the king of Camelot, Arthur is seeking to undo his father’s laws against magic and right his wrongs. As the final step in this process he seeks an alliance with the druids. They inform him that he already has their allegiance because Emrys is at his side. There is only one problem with that, Arthur doesn’t know who Emrys is.
-Once and Future Merthur (T | 11,832)
While escaping from bandits, Merlin and Arthur find themselves transported to a different version of their lives. Throughout their journey secrets are revealed and emotions are uncovered. Will they be able to handle the truth once it is unveiled?
This one is a bit out there admittedly, but I stand by it.
-The Unwanted Gift (G | 5,649)
Merlin is, by his nature, a kind and gentle hearted person. When a young sorceress sees this in the warlock, she seeks to help others to be able to see this in Merlin as well. She gifts him with an enchantment that bears Merlin’s soul to the world, which leads to some rather unintended consequences for the warlock. Inspired by this artwork from 2018 by tumblr user @cypress-ess: https://cypress-ess.tumblr.com/post/177981059209/snow-white-au
-Visiting Home (T | 3,016)
Arthur and Merlin travel to Ealdor to take part in a harvest celebration. Arthur has known about Merlin’s magic for a while, and Merlin has been named the Court Sorcerer. Wanting to get to know more about young Merlin, Arthur asks Hunith for some stories. OR – tooth rotting domestic fluff
This is 2 years worth of my writing/my life which is quite crazy for me to think about. Hope y’all like some of these, I love this fandom so much!

i think i get why i personally hate the whole “the knights and arthur finds out about merlin’s magic and gwaine states his loyalist to merlin and he’s the first one to defend merlin and merlin comes above all else in gwaine’s life” and it’s simply cuz y’all hate on arthur and that’s the majority of why this is so popular. you hate arthur so much that y’all created a fake scenario where arthur got extremely pissed at merlin to the point of merlin needing protection from arthur. which merlin’s a powerful sorcerer so why is this even happening? but anyway it also shows me that y’all just MISSED HUGE ASS PLOT LINES AND MEANINGS FROM THE SHOW!!! the whole last two episodes is dealing with the magic reveal only to arthur. it’s not gwaine’s journey to go on with merlin ITS ARTHUR! and the whole point of the last few episodes is the fact that we don’t know what arthur would have done and neither does arthur but guess what IT DOESNT FUCKING MATTER WHAT HE WOULD HAVE DONE HAD IT BEEN REVEALED EARLIER!!
all that matters is that it’s being said now as arthur is dying and there’s next to no cure. what matters is arthur and merlin’s journey about the reveal because that’s what one major plot line is. the whole last two eps is saying “we can’t be sure what his response would be but what matters is the fact that arthur is dying and his world has been shaken from him and merlin has to face two of his biggest fears here. they’re both broken by destiny but the two matter to each other in so many more ways that they’re willing to go out of their comfort zones for each other. what matters is the fact that yes these two have hurt each other in the past but their love for one another outweighs the hurt and they’re finally able to meet each other in the middle”
and instead of y’all focusing on that arthur always has to have the worst response in fics where merlin is a tiny baby and he needs protection from arthur. and everyone’s like “well merlin can have one person that isn’t solely related to arthur. let merlin have this one person” and it’s like yeah i get the reasoning but jesus christ you think merlin character fans would be happy that merlin DID get the thing he wanted in canon which was that arthur knows him inside and out and that he doesn’t have to hide from arthur and that arthur can look him in the eyes after finding this out and saying “i understand you now” like this is literally what merlin wants but because of y’all’s spite for arthur you legit take away the one thing that merlin has wanted!!
it’s just the hatred for arthur is what rubs me the wrong way about this whole scenario and the fact that people just play down merlin and arthur’s relationship. also it’s truly a wonder how y’all ALWAYS headcanon arthur to be the worst person when merlin reveals the truth and the knights as saints about it despite ARTHUR AND LANCELOT BEING THE ONES WE SAW ON SCREEN REACT TO HIS SECRET!!!

Has anyone else noticed this???
Okay... for sure I am not the first to notice this, but I feel there needs to me more people talking about this.
The parallels between Miles Morales and Bree Matthews?!
Both of them at the end of their respective arcs are being told who they are and what they are supposed to be and do. And the general feeling I get from both of them can be summed up by Miles in Across the Spider -verse, when he is being chased and assaulted back to back by Spidermen, women alike from across the whole multiverse, and Miguel is telling him that he was a mistake, that he was never supposed to even be spiderman.. that he is the ANOMOLY and for things to continue moving forward without any further hiccups he has to let his father die.
then he's LIKE!!!!
Tumblr media
which I feel is so so Briana Matthews right now. Of course Bree doesn't explicitly say a line like this towards the end of BloodMarked, but ohhhh I totally think we are going to get there in Oathbound.
In both LegendBorn and Bloodmarked Bree is told that her being the Scion of Arthur was a mistake. That she, someone like her shouldn't even be apart of the Legendborn let alone apart of their "traditions" and this was clear after Bree was never going to be allowed to pull Excalibur with the Regents in attendance. They had already made the decision that whatever Briana Matthews is or can potentially be is nothing more than a threat to their existence.
Can you not see the parallels here?!
That question feels like a shoutout to Lord Davis ( or as the #wizardteampod has coined Dud Davis.) and that thought irks me.
(( I will admit that I thought it was Doug Davis for like 10 minutes and I sat thinking... who the hell is DOUG?? ))
Dud David is just so fitting because a dud can be defined as a thing that fails to work properly or is otherwise unsatisfactory or worthless. Which is so funny because his whole plan to call on Camlann by opening the gates 25 years or so ago, was a bust. Yet that man was so delusion that be believes he is the chosen one, the one who will uproot all the corruption and evil, and believed that with Arthurs powers he would be able to do so.
THEN!! THEN!!! when he meets Arthur while he was in the possession of Bree's body EVEN PROBLEMATIC ASS ARTHUR wants nothing to do with him. That was poetic justice.
OKAY BACK TO BREE BREE
We know Bonnie (TVD) and Revenge Katara (ATLA) inspired Bree's character but we have yet to see Bree herself act by her own accord to achieve revenge. ( BECAUSE MANY OF THE TIMES BREE HAS BEEN BAD ASS AND BEATING SOMEONE'S ASS SHE WAS POSESSED BY THAT.... VIRUS OF A SPIRIT, ARTHUR. ALTHOUGH I WILL ADMIT BREE IN THE DREAM WORLD WHEN SHE FIGURES OUT HOW TO HARNESS HER POWERS AND STARTS KICKING MERLIN AND SIR LANCELOT'S ASS SHOULD BE MENTIONED BECAUSE IT'S SO FUNNY TO ME. LIKE NICK AND SEL BOTH HAVE DONE SOME OUT OF POCKET THINGS AND HERE COMES BREE WITH FISTS A-BLAZING )
ANYWAY.. I'm ready to see Ms. Briana Matthews start beating every bodies ass. It's about damn time!!
I do wonder how far her anger will take her in her story because she doesn't (currently that is, because she is with the Shadow King) have a Anng like character to keep her in check. Since she has isolated her self physically and mentally from everyone.
AANNNDD let's not forget she is not the only one full of rage either. William's arc is currently underway, and we do not know how he is going to deal with all the sadness for loosing his squire, Whitty and the anger he feels at the Regents and even himself. Especially towards the end of Bloodmarked where he is dealing with the fact that he is unable to heal Alice or Selwyn because there is no information on his powers being used to treat a Onceborn or a Cambion who has fully transformed.
Brianna says that the Regents will pay for the many things they have done but for making William question himself and breaking him will be chief among them. Can I just say how excited I am to see how this part will play out.!!!!
and of course after the Rites when she is in a drugged state while being interrogated she tells Regent Aldrich
"Not here. Not today. But somewhere. Someday."
And i JUST... UGHHH!!!
there are just so many moments where I can not wait to see how these people get what is coming to them!
Tumblr media
ALSO!!! a dishonorable mention... FUCK TOR! I do not want her to get a redemption arc I am comfortably fine with hating her and just like in real life there are some people who never get a redemption arc they stay sick and twisted till the day they die.
Tumblr media
back on the parallels', these songs from the Across the Spider-verse soundtrack just feel so Legendborn coded. AM I DREAMING is simply BREE's song and you can not tell me otherwise. She's been beaten and forced into a corner time and time again but even still she hasn't given up. This can be credited to the Oathbound teaser where the Shadow King has given the twins an interesting challenge and as she takes off into the forest she says she has no choice but to master this lesson and the one after this and when she has learned everything she can and finally has control she is going to kill him. (The Shadow King)
I will say ' Calling' can be interpreted as a song for so many different characters. I personally think any one of the trio can probably relate to this song. I on the other hand thought of 1 maybe 2 people while listening to the song. So I'm curious which characters will pop up in someone else's mind.

Hello, I hope you are doing well! I don't know if your requests are open, or you are accepting requests right now but, if you are could I request a 4kota lancelot x siren reader? Like, reader is a siren with powers similar to Black Pearl cookie in Crk (if you don't know who that is then you can just do a regular siren. long story short she can turn really big - like a giant but as a siren- and has a trident and can control water really well and was all happy and positive, but then after something happened to her (she got betrayed) she turned all gloomy and angry. They can walk on land (if they are dry enough. Like of they dry their tail it can turn into legs and their scales go away if they are completely dry) sorry if this is vague or not descriptive enough. You don't have to do this if you don't want to but, If you do then, Thanks! Have a wonderful day/afternoon/night wherever you are!
Hello dear, I believe I got the gist. I hope this was alright! Have a wonderful day/night to you anon ❤️
(some pieces here and there are what I drew on inspiration from based on the Lancelot from arthurian legends, there still isn't a whole lot we understand about the Lancelot we know from 4kota)
Tumblr media
The first time you two officially met face to face would be during his time with the Lady Of The Lake, given when he had disappeared from the world being around ten years old. He wasn't sure to make of you, only that he had the complete understanding that you were on the verge of Great Depression. A spiral of which is harsh to come back from, but as young as he was at the time, alongside you, Lancelot could not garner a complete understanding of what was going on. He only knew that you were another person that the Lady Of The Lake knew, and therefore became officially acquainted with you. Accepting to know you and all your vices, he was not easily swayed by your temperament (as gentle as you were), as he was at his core -- stubborn.
Overtime, he's come to learn that learning from the past is something inherently negative to you. As you had dealings with a previous lord who you thought you could trust, twisting it into a betrayal of sorts as your pearl had been stolen from you completely, causing you to be enraged. Your own home too was attacked by land dwellers, which in the sense, he understood why you would hold anger and resentment against the entirety of the beings. Though he could only offer pieces of advice in the time he knew you, he wasn't sure what kind of person you could become the next time you two met.
It was then around five years later you two had crossed paths, for only the second time. You were different, angrier even. Different abilities and the power to grow as big as a member of the giant race, to Lancelot -- it was insane to see for the very first time. He certainly didn't expect the turn-out, but then again, he had some changes of his own. But he was inherently worried about you, as you were vengeful, but within reason fortunately. Lancelot had the gut feeling that long time ago, but seeing it come to fruition was rather startling.
Though he wasn't easily scared off, Lancelot then decided to stay around, and talk with you longer. He wanted to see how you felt about everything currently, how your views changed compared to five years ago.
The main thing that had intrigued him was your ability to grow to the size of a giant, and had asked about it. You simply responded that you had gained the ability after you lost your pearl officially, short and curt, which depressed him a little. In turn, it did remind him of himself, something he will never outright admit. Lancelot did wonder if you were able still remain rational and in good behavior around land-dwellers, as you were partial to him and didn't necessarily outright attack him when you two had crossed paths again.
Your ability to control the waves with just your trident was impressive however, so he inquired about it. You had displayed great exemplary action of your will to control the waves, the sea alone, and your way of befriending the creatures of the sea. Lancelot was genuinely fascinated the entire time.
Lancelot was amiable to becoming friends with you, and decided to do his best to change your view about the world, as to not warrant another world-ending threat. One world-ending threat was enough, you alone was worrying.
He couldn't deny though, the way your appearance looked, land or sea- was very interesting. You could form legs as long as your scales were dry enough to do so, and walk upon land, and how quickly you revert back to sea form when in contact with water. Lancelot thinks it's pretty neat in a way, and you were after all, the first and only siren he's met in his life.

Preparations of Two
Knights of the Round
+++
“So, are you going to light me on fire?”
Lancelot was once again seated up on the top of the Round Table, this time with a half-finished plate of thick-cut potato wedges and mostly-cold batter-fried fish. He wasn’t especially sore, considering how fast he healed, but without his healing factor, he would likely be feeling rather thoroughly ridden hard and put away wet.
It turned out that once they got a proper chance at him, both Arthur and Guinevere were decidedly enthusiastic lovers. Lancelot knew that about Guen already, but he hadn’t expected his king to be quite so able to simply muscle him into whatever position Arthur wanted. Lancelot tried to give as good as he got, but he was very much outnumbered.
It was a good night. Possibly one of the best in Lancelot’s long life.
Now he was waiting to see if the Wizard was brave enough to have an opinion on the matter, considering Guen’s rather definitive, and public, displeasure with Merlin’s meddling. Arthur hadn’t said anything about it as yet, but considering the very prominent collection of bruises on Lancelot’s neck, and decidedly lower, he felt that his king also had a strong opinion on the matter.
“I ought to,” Merlin said, today in eye-searing neon blue from head to toe, patterned with various cartoon characters. “I did tell you.”
“Despite popular opinion, I don’t actually take orders from you, generally speaking,” Lancelot said conversationally as he nibbled on his half-abandoned food. “You were our highest authority without Arthur, but he’s back now, with the Sword, and Guen is still his queen. As far as my oaths are concerned, they outrank you in every way.”
“You got them killed,” Merlin said, cold and ruthless as he rarely revealed to anyone unless he was truly furious. Lancelot wondered what he would do about it. It was possible he was about to be lit on fire, but Merlin did have other options. Of course, they would bring questions from Arthur, and Merlin answered to him as much as Lancelot did. “You brought the ruin of Camelot.”
“Yes,” Lancelot said, finally at peace with his own terrible history. It was an old scar. One that ached still, but it was healed, and the return of Arthur and Guen was a balm that eased the pain. “Although I do put a good deal of that on Mordred. I was a piece of that disaster, but I didn’t orchestrate it.”
“Why are you defying my command to stay away from them?”
“You explicitly told me to go find them. The rest is not your concern.”
“It is if it brings doom on us once again.”
The Wizard wasn’t going to back down about this. Lancelot sighed and looked up at the clouded English sky. It was summer, but summer in England always came with a fair bit of rain. Lancelot enjoyed it, and was amused by the way it chased so many people away.
“They know our history, are in full understanding of the situation, and still want me to join them,” he said, although he resented having to justify it to the damned Wizard. Merlin hadn’t earned any good will from him over the centuries. Not, admittedly, that Lancelot had attempted to do much to foster good will himself. He and the Wizard were enemies who happened to share a goal. There was no real need to change things now. “Unless you care to explain to Guen why you’re getting involved in her affairs. I doubt Arthur will go against her wishes, even if they didn’t align with his own.”
“And with yours?”
There was a killing edge to Merlin’s voice that was… interesting. Merlin had occasionally sent him into situations that would get him blown up or terribly injured, but he had never made a true attempt to undo the magic that kept Lancelot or the other Knights alive. It was possible he had the power to do it. Certainly, he would want to remove Mordred’s immortality, if he could manage it. If he could do it to Mordred, he could do it to Lancelot.
Lancelot had a passing wonder for which of them the Wizard hated more.
He didn’t ask. It wasn’t a question that needed an answer.
“I love them. I always have,” Lancelot spoke the truth that was written across his heart in golden faith. “Now, we’ve actually talked. We aren't lying to each other, or sneaking around. Camelot fell because none of us were being truthful. Even Mordred’s fury was justified, in a way. We all lied to him, too.”
He had a long time to think about it, through the dark ages, and the renaissance, and two world wars, and dozens of smaller ones. Through terrors, and hardships, and the pain of his own betrayal of everything he loved more than life itself. There were times when he even tried to take his own life, not that it did any good. He always healed eventually, once his cousins hunted him down and dragged him out of his latest attempt.
Now, for the first time in centuries, he truly had something to live for once more.
“The real question,” he said with just a little venom, since the Wizard had earned it. “Is whether you’re going to make Galahad retrieve the Grail from wherever he hid it, so we don’t lose them again.”
“I have not decided,” Merlin said, although Lancelot suspected it was more to hurt Lancelot than it was the truth. He loved Arthur too, and the loss of their king hurt the Wizard almost more than it hurt Lancelot. “Immortality is not to be delivered lightly.”
“If you don’t force Galahad’s hand, I will,” Lancelot told him coldly, sharp as his sword-blade. “I’m not twenty anymore, Wizard, and I know Galahad. He hid it in a church somewhere. There aren’t enough of them to slow me down for long. He might be the best of us, but he isn’t the brightest.”
“And you are?”
“Of course not.” That didn’t bear debating. Lancelot knew his skills. He was smart enough, but he wasn’t brilliant. “But between me, Gawain, and Pellinore, we’ll track the damn thing down again. Do them the favor of not forcing my hand on the matter.”
It was a threat. Possibly the first time Lancelot had truly threatened the Wizard, but as he said, he wasn’t a young man anymore. He had centuries behind him and, unlike the rest of them, Merlin’s immortality wasn’t gifted by the Grail. He could be hurt. He might even be able to be killed.
If Lancelot lost Arthur and Guen again, to something the Wizard could have prevented, he would carve their tombstone of Merlin’s bones.
“I will think on it,” Merlin said, which was no answer at all, and they both knew it. Still, there was a hint of respect under his words. Lancelot hadn’t expected it, but it was gratifying. “But do not threaten me again, Lancelot du Lac. My patience with you has limits, and should you reach the end of it, we will discover if your preparations, or mine, prevail.”
With that, he was gone and Lancelot was left alone with his cold food, and the rainy English sky above.

Note
random question! do you have any recommendations for any Arthurian/knight related horror/vaguely spooky movies?
(i apologize if you have a post like this already, tumblr's lack of functional search engine is really something)
Hello!
The only Arthurian movie with horror elements throughout would be The Green Knight (2021). From the outset the entire film is shot very dark, the score is eerie and haunting, the color scheme of green life/rot and red blood plays into the horror as well. There's the obvious violence of the beheading of the Green Knight, but even before that, Morgan's spell and the possession of Guinevere to read the Green Knight's letter are pretty scary! One of my favorite scenes in the whole film. Later, Gawain is captured by scavenger bandits and left for dead, he meets a dead woman and retrieves her severed head, and immediately following his consumption of some mushrooms, he hallucinates moss growing on his hands, and then everything from that moment onward gets a little freaky for him. ;^)))))
Next best example would be Excalibur (1981), specifically the Grail Quest portion. It's a solid 20 minutes of non-stop psychological (and occasionally physical) torture. Arthur is the Fisher King here and rotting away, along with his land and people. Percival and all the knights venture out for what appears to be close to 20 years, as Mordred grows to manhood during this time. Percival is slowly debilitated from cold and hunger, assaulted by angry townspeople, psychologically tortured by Morgan with visions of his dead comrades, hung from a tree and left for dead, and even cosmically harassed by a glowing entity bombarding him with questions. There's also one scene in which Lancelot has a nightmare in which he fights his own suit of armor ("himself") which ends with a self-inflicted injury that never heals for the duration of the film, an allegory for his shame. Insanely good stuff.
After that I would suggest Starz Camelot (2011), which is a show. This has aspects of it I would definitely consider horror or at the least spooky. Morgan's storyline especially as she tries to gather magical power to herself and incurs the wrath of some demons. Morgan is also able to shape shift into other people and it's shot like a grotesque and painful experience which results in blood seeping from her eyes, nose, and mouth. Likewise Merlin deals with these same setbacks while using magic and is haunted by the people he's killed which drives him to madness at one point. Stepping away from the supernatural, the deaths in this show are especially gruesome, somewhat like Excalibur as well, but more of them with the longer run time. There's a scene with a character drawing themselves along a spear to finish their opponent (like Mordred at Camlann), beheadings, even a torture scene with a guy impaled on a stake and unable to flee while [redacted] continues to wound him in non-lethal ways to draw information out of him. So a lot to work with here!
The only other option I can think of is a bit of a stretch, but that's Merlin and The Sword (1985). The Knight of the Cart is adapted here, except that Guinevere is taken to the other world which can only be entered by magical means. Lancelot and Gawain venture there to try and rescue her and come across many corpses and skeletons along the way, which they joke about (they're so normal) but ultimately split up and deal with trials along the way. It has an element of unreality to it, as no one is said to return from there, and the fay rules challenge their every move. Lancelot also brutally murders people along the way including choking a guy with the bar of a spear, lifting his feet off the ground while holding the man to his chest. It's overall pretty camp, but if hopeless quests into other worlds is your thing, that movie has it in spades.
Tragically, that's all I got for you. We need more Arthurian horror! Thanks for the ask, I hope this helps.
