WTNV quick rundown - 64 - WE MUST GIVE PRAISE
Don't judge a book by its cover. Judge it by the harmful messages it contains. Welcome to Night Vale.
This episode is mainly about The Glow Cloud (All Hail) which, as you might remember, is president of the NV school board and announces a five-year strategic plan for the the school district laying out new curriculum goals, organizational restructuring, and a comprehensive outline for eternal penitence before the mighty glow cloud.
This worship seems to involve falling to your knees and praising the Glow Cloud, eyes solid white, gray smoky wisps swirling from the mouth, hands clapping.
The NV PTA is upset with these changes as they feel that the board did not consult enough with parents. The president, Gordon Moreno, states this whilst atop of a bronze statue of Lee Marvin. He is joined by Diane Crayton (treasurer) and Steve Carlsberg (secretary).
The Glow Cloud rejects them, citing school codes which expressly give it permission to do anything it wants including demand worship of it. It then begins to rain animals down on the PTA whilst Moreno grovels for forgiveness. This includes things like black bears and nurse sharks. Cecil somehow knows that Diane is using the Lee Marvin statue to hide under, despite it all apparently happening the very moment he's saying it. He can see the Glow Cloud blotting out everything. *
Eventually the Glow Cloud stops dropping dead animals in return for the PTA never mentioning educational transparacy again. Moreno accepts, Diane tries to interject but is shut up. Cecil assures us Steve probably said something but Cecil doesn't care.
Weather: "True Trans Soul Rebel" by Against Me! http://againstme.net
The Glow Cloud's child is a freshman at NV HS and an active member of the Show Choir and Speechless Debate Team. Josh Crayton is a 9th grader. Janice is a 2nd grader. This makes (as of 2015 and even so time isn't real in NV) Josh and the GL's child both roughly 14-15 and Janice is 7-8 years old. That's correct if I understand America well enough (I am not American).
The SSP are searching for Hiram and the FOW following their attempted assassination of Dana. The reward for information on them is a gift card to Pier One, a lifetime of gratitude, and a couple of handwritten coupons for things like "washing the dishes" or "a 10-minute backrub."
Hiram is hiding in plain sight by pretending to be Frank Chen, a man he murdered and who everyone knows was murdered, but whom everyone willfully believes he is when he puts on clothing.
* Cecil has taken up painting in watercolours 'again', which he has used to paint a pastel profile of Carlos facing the desert otherworld, in his Karl Lagerfield designed labcoat next to a car sized Bichon Frise on a sand dune. He says it helps to get him through the days and hangs it on a wall by the window. The dead animal rain breaks one of the station walls, the one where his desk was and where the picture of Carlos he'd painted was, destroying both. Cecil is upset by this, but tries to reason with himself about being easily able to make another.
We get our best description of Hiram here - he is 18 feet tall and his heads are colored blue, green, gold, gray, and purple. They each have their own personality, sentience, memory, and distinct markings and features. The grey head often feels blue and wears a green nose ring. The blue head considers logic the gold-standard of intellect and has purple eyes. The gold head is actually more of a sable and will talk till he's blue in the face. The purple head has grown gray with paranoid fantasies and wears a gold neck chain that has a pendant with the word VIOLET written in green gemstones. And the green head is the real shouty one that wants to set everyone on fire all the time.
Lacy (from the water department) is apparently still on the phone in the radio station and can hear his other calls.
He's still having a hard time getting his vacation approved. He laments that it may take months because he works in radio, whilst other places just have someone from HR hide in your car and surprise you with the approval.
Dark Owl Records will be holding an open mic for anyone who promises not to play any music, perform any poetry or comedy, or produce any kind of art at all. Michelle Nguyen said she hopes to not have to listen to or see any more art for as long as she lives, which she is sure will be for a really long time. She apparently can only listen to a AOL Free Internet for 30 Days disc in her antique CD player.
The Society for a Blood/Space War will be traveling back in time and eliminating several future enemies before they gain training and grow powerful. This includes Intern Hannah and some people from the radio finance section. They attacked her with laserknives and then grabbed her and jumped into the black hole they had created by the coffee maker.
There is going to be an Ennui Fair on the Great Lawn sponsored by the Last Bank of Night Vale. There will be clowns and traders but they'll be filled with too much ennui to actually do anything and it's going to rain.
There is going to be the first annual Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, at the Softball and Field Hockey Grounds, which were discovered last fall by archeologists over near the Olive Garden in the Problematic Birds District. Archeologists determined this ancient site was built over 4 years ago by natives of NV who enjoyed outdoor activities like amateur softball and field hockey.
Stay tuned next for the quiz show "Ask Me Another. But I'll Never Talk, You Fiend. I'll NEVER Talk." It's our most popular new program. And as always, good night, Night Vale. Good night.
Proverb: Don't bring a gun to a knife fight. Don't bring a knife to a knife fight either. Stop going to knife fights altogether. What's your deal with knife fights?

Chad: I’m the ultimate third wheel.
Dana, after kissing Lacy: You shouldn’t think that way.
Maureen, holding Michelle’s hand: Yeah, what makes you say that?
Kareem, cuddling with Lance: Completely untrue.
Chad: Wow, I’ve levelled up to the seventh wheel. I’m truly powerful.

WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE is a twice-monthly podcast in the style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring local weather, news, announcements from the Sheriff's Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events.
"With its uncanny blend of the macabre and the mundane, the news out of Night Vale sounds like what might occur if Stephen King or David Lynch was a guest producer at your local public radio station." - NY Times Turn on your radio and hide. Disclaimer: WTNV does not in anyway belong to me, it belongs to Joseph Fink and Jeffery Cranor. I made this book for people who need to follow along with words, would rather read then listen. WTNV quick rundown - Live Show - The Investigators - bonus tracks
Featuring the voices of Flor De Liz Perez as Lacy Hernez, Kate Jones as Michelle Nyugen, Wil Wheaton as Earl Harlan, Mark Gagliardi as John Peters, you know, the farmer?, Molly Quinn as Melony Pennington, Jason Webley as Louie Blasko, Jackson Publick as Hiram McDaniels, Mara Wilson as the Faceless Old Woman, Jasika Nicole as Dana Cardinal, Kevin R Free as Kevin of Desert Bluffs.
This is the bonus tracks from the live show, I recommend reading the live show run down first.
Lacey's bonus track is the same information about the electric company that Cecil himself reads out in the live show, but this time Lacey gives the information. She alsos adds that the electric company might be sad because it's going through relationship issues with the gas company.
Michelle comes on air (despite now hating radio and liking podcasts, a reverse of earlier this year) to announce the first ever Dark Owl Fest, an electro-witch-hop music festival. She used six months of DO's income to rent out all of Mission Grove park and is in deep financial trouble because of it, meaning she has to sell tickets even though she wants to be the only one there and it is in fact happening right at that moment as she speaks.
She's actually deeply upset that she decided to do this, as she doesn't want to lose the store and doesn't know why she thought she could do this. Even so, she instantly claims that she is absolutely fine. Also apparently NV has bands called The Murderer, the Dangerous Criminal and ofc the Killers. Also Cecil apparently whispers 'radio radio radio' to himself when he's not on air.
Earl's segment is somewhat a rehash of the shows announcement of the dinner, but he adds extra info about the courses etc. He also tells us that he has a moustache, can remember his sons name most days and always calls him to say he loves him, mutters 'you can do this Earl' into the mirror every morning and also switches places with his mirror self every morning.
John Peters (you know, the farmer?), is on the 'phone' as an eye witness (one of the top three witnesses behind foot witness and kidney witness) to the murder. Except he really just wanted to tell a story about how he was abducted by aliens. Cecil is apathetic to this story and slightly disgruntled that John Peters pretended to be a witness. In NV, witnesses are people paid to witness whatever crime you want them to say they witnessed.
Melony is here for computer tips. She is the creator of Fey, from WZZZ, the number station. She says that Fey is absolutely NOT sentient and that the numbers and tones are codes for foreign spies, as well as a few recipes and poems. Her tips are mostly cryptic things as is the NV norm, like saying personal computers are over friendly and anything can be a computer.
Louise Blasko is here again for his music segment. Carlos thinks Cecil would look cute playing a ukelele, so Cecil is interested in learning to play music (but he also might install a pipe organ in their home). Louie is, as usual, off-key and very chaotic.
Hiram tells us that he has been served 5 life sentences, to be served concurrently by each head. They say that since their Frank Chen disguise was found out they're instead going to diguise each other as a different coloured head. This doesn't work because Cecil can see them talking. They threaten to remove his eyes till Cecil vaguely plays along without incident.
The FOW appears in Cecil's studio. She says she knows who the murderer is, but doesn't tell us. She instead tells us about a citizen called Tristan Cortez whoses tv remote she has hidden behind his eye requiring him to use a knife to remove it. She also claims that meat does not come from animals and doesn't clarify further.
According to Dana, murder is a rare threat in NV. She gives tips for dealing with a murderer the way you would deal with a bear or a wild cat. She says it's good to talk to Cecil again and that she cares for him.
Kevin jams Cecil's signal so that they can talk. He seems to genuinely just want to speak to Cecil again and insists that they are friends. He says that Cecil should try and see things from his point of view ("I mean not literally. Not like, pull your eyes out and jam them still bloody into my skull.") Kevin tries to use a sports metaphor but has a poor grasp on sports. Basketball is on ice in NV. Kevin doesn't know what ice is.
Kevin says he always tries to see things from multiple points of view, even if that means sympathising with the murderer. He says that everyone sees and hears things different from their peers. He uses this as a way to say that he was 'equally' hurt by NV revolting against Strex and making him lose his job but forgives Cecil, so he hopes Cecil with forgive him and allow them to start getting along. He then audibly smiles. Cecil is horrorified and unjams the signal.

Does anyone remember Lacy from Welcome to Night Vale’s Water Failure episode? She worked for the water company that Cecil called and thanked him for saving Dana (not directly, but we later find out it was).
I’m only halfway through the existing Night Vale episodes, so I’m not sure if Lacy is ever brought up again.
I am, however curious as to what Lacy’s relationship to Dana is. Is she just a concerned citizen, grateful for Cecil’s actions in saving their Mayor? Perhaps, she is or was Dana’s girlfriend?
I think it safe to say that she’s not Dana’s sister since Dana has only ever mentioned her brother. I’m eager to hear what the WTNV fans out there think.
