There were so many things Jimin loved about you.
Your hair. Your smile. Your outfits. Your sound of glee you made whenever something went your way. The list goes on.
But one thing he couldn’t love was your taste in men.
He could never figure out why you went for those who were the complete opposite of you.
Inconsiderate. Self-centered. Unreliable. Inattentive. The list goes on.
Every time you showed up at his house with red-rimmed eyes, he was there to pull you inside and shower you with cuddles and soft reassurances until that lovely smile of yours returned. Some times were tougher than the others, where these sessions would take days before that storm cloud above your head broke.
This last time was one of them.
Your asshole of an ex (Jung-ho? Jae-woo? Whatever, he didn’t give a fuck) had to be the worst of them all over the years.
The prick had somehow convinced you to let him move in after just seven months of dating, citing that his lease was almost up and he felt that things were getting serious between the two of you. Of course you believed him, stars in your eyes as you gave him the copy of your apartment keys. Things seemed smooth for a couple of months until one day you had called Jimin. He could tell from the tone of your voice that something was horribly wrong and was ready to book it to your place until you told him to meet you at the nearest park instead. He threw on his shoes and ran down there immediately, even though he figured it would take you at least fifteen minutes to show up from your apartment. You showed up just in time but there were no tears in your eyes or sobs stuck in your throat. Instead, the color looked like it had drained from your face. Jimin quickly sat down with you when he saw your legs start to wobble.
He never expected you to tell him that you were on the verge of eviction. How could that have happened? You were always so diligent when it came to paying your bills.
But it wasn’t your fault at all, it was your damn boyfriend’s.
He had thrown some crazy party while you were out of town for the weekend which led to major noise complaints from multiple neighbors. You were none the wiser when you returned until your landlord showed up at your door to yell at you. He didn’t even try to hear your attempts to defend yourself before shoving a notice in your hands, the bright red stamp on top nearly making your heart stop. And to top it off, your boyfriend merely shrugged when you confronted him on what he did, saying that he didn’t think they were that loud.
You weren’t the type to get angry easily but you saw red. All you could remember was screaming multiple insults with scattered swears before storming out in your bedroom slippers, keys and phone clutched tight in your hand. And that was when Jimin had gotten that phone call.
He had to watch with a heavy heart as you broke down into sobs in his arms, lamenting that you had nowhere to go now, your parents too far for you to stay with and no relatives nearby either. You couldn’t afford to find another place in the neighborhood either, the rent too high compared to what you were used to. There were places that were affordable but the areas were not exactly safe for a young woman. Jimin had scrambled for solutions until an idea had formed. But before the rational part of his mind could tell him no, it expelled from his mouth like word vomit.
Come live with me.
He did his best to keep his eyes on yours as you looked at him with shock, even though his face was on fire with embarrassment. He tried to cover himself by saying that it made sense and he was sure Taehyung and Jungkook wouldn’t mind if you stayed with them for a while. All you had to worry about was getting your stuff out before the landlord had it tossed in the trash. You had remained silent for a while before you asked him why he was going through all this trouble for you. Now Jimin really had to rein himself in, on the verge of confessing these feelings that he was forced to swallow down all of these years.
All he could do was give you one of his bright smiles, brushing a stray tear away as he said that’s what best friends were for.
The two of you spent the rest of the night in his living room, scouring the web for a storage company that could hold all of your furniture for a decent price, along with an inexpensive moving company to help bring the rest of your things to his apartment. It was nearly 4 AM when all of the necessary info was jotted down and the two of you were forced to sleep, Jimin offering you his bed and a shirt to sleep in. Of course you kicked up a fuss until he gave you a raised brow and a hand on his hip, killing your argument right there. And so you had tucked yourself into his sheets while he laid on the couch, hands clasped on his stomach as he stared at the ceiling, wondering how well this was going to go over with his roommates.
Thank God he had the sense to send you on a breakfast run the next morning, not wanting you to be around to hear him and the others shouting at each other.
Honestly, Taehyung and Jungkook had every right to be upset at his impromptu decision but he couldn’t leave you hung out to dry like that. You had already mentioned last night that you would do whatever to help out, whether it be with rent, bills or even groceries, until you got a place of your own. The guys had calmed down a bit when he relayed the message but they were still iffy on having someone of the opposite gender living with them all of a sudden. Jimin loved them but they weren’t exactly the neatest of roommates and he reminded them to not leave their socks and underwear lying around in the bathroom from now on. By the time you came back, it seemed like nothing had happened as you passed everyone a cup of coffee and a sandwich, light conversation carrying on at the table. You never noticed the looks Taehyung and Jungkook shot your best friend from the side when you weren’t looking.
That was over a month ago.
You were still living with Jimin and his friends, your quest for a new place futile and wearing on your nerves. Whatever breakthroughs came fell through one way or another, sending you back to square one. The guys sans Jimin had been making sure to give you your space, sensing an aura around you that said ‘don’t bother me’. But today was especially rough, thanks to some unpleasant news you had heard through the grapevine. Your ex, unscathed from the eviction thanks to his parents letting him shack up, had gotten a place of his own. You couldn’t help but wonder why he didn’t offer to look for a new place with you after the incident, only texting you once after you blew up at him to let you know that he was getting his stuff out. But nothing ever came; no apology either. You had to calm Jimin down after showing him the message, on the verge of speeding over to the apartment to curse or beat the living daylights out of Jung-woo.
You tried not to let the news bum you out but you clearly failed as Jimin noticed something was up when he got home from work.
“What’s wrong, princess?”
Your head flew up from your phone, surprised to see him standing in front of you, a look of concern on his handsome face. “O-Oh, nothing…”
Jimin rolled his eyes before sitting next to you on the couch. “Y/N, we’ve known each other for how many years now?”
“Uh, fifteen years?”
“Fifteen years of you trying and failing to pull a fast one on me.”
You sighed. So much for avoiding the subject. “Well…it’s about Jung-woo.”
Jimin’s body automatically tensed at the name. “What about him?”
“He…well, I heard from Dan-bi that he found a place to live.”
“What? Where?”
Your lip caught between your teeth, knowing that this next sentence was going to set him off. “Over in Gangnam-gu.”
As you predicted, your best friend stood up, fists clenched at his sides in outrage. “Gangnam-gu? That place is fucking expensive!”
“I know…”
A growl escaped him. “He couldn’t even offer you help to find an apartment yet he had the money to go live in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Korea. That son of a bitch. I should have gone over that night and-”
“No Jimin.” You fixed him with a stern look, reaching up to hold his hands in yours. “Not saying that he didn’t deserve it but I’m not watching my best friend get taken away because he assaulted someone. He’ll get his karma.”
Your touch calmed him down a bit, forcing himself to take in a few deep breaths before sitting down again. “I hope so or else karma is a big joke.” Shaking his head to clear his anger, he gave you an uneasy look. “But forget about me, how are you feeling?”
“Well…you pretty much expressed how I felt when I heard that.” A humorless laugh came out as you looked down at your still intertwined hands. “I really know how to pick them, huh?”
Jimin bit back an agreement, not wanting to start a fight with you over his insensitivity. “Y/N, come on, enough of that. It’s not your fault that this all happened, any decent man would take some responsibility for messing up, which he clearly isn’t.”
“If you say so…”
Frowning at how you still eyed your hands with discontent, Jimin removed one to hold your chin, gently lifting it up to look at him. God, the makeup you had on only made your eyes pop out even more than usual.
“I don’t think your taste in men is completely terrible, princess-“ His lips twisted into a smirk. “I mean, look at me.”
He cheered inside his head as he got the result he wanted, your pretty face scrunching as you laughed at his joke.
“Chimmy, you dork! Of course you would make yourself the exception.”
“But is it not true?”
Jimin had been joking but a tiny part of him wanted the validation from your lips (and hoped that maybe it would skew your platonic feelings in another direction). He never got it as the front door burst open, the entrants loudly announcing their arrival.
“’Sup lovebirds!”
The two of you jumped at the interruption, looking up to see Jungkook and Taehyung at the door. “Welcome home, guys. How was your day?"
Jungkook pouted as he toed off his shoes. “Could’ve been better, it was a slow day at work. I hate when I’m given the early shifts at the gym.”
Taehyung scoffed as he kicked off his shoes. “Be glad you were slow, it was nonstop for me. I had to go to the backroom a couple of times so I wouldn’t lose my shit on the next person who asked if we had any more raspberry drizzle.”
Jimin spoke next, voice dripping with sarcasm. “Wow, sucks to be you guys.”
“It does, which is why-“ Jungkook threw an arm over the other’s shoulders, grinning. “We’re going to hit up Joseon tonight for some drinks!”
“Don’t you two have work in the morning again?”
Taehyung shrugged. “Yeah but we’ll cross that bridge when the time comes. You guys want to come along?”
You were ready to decline, not a huge fan of somewhere as crowded as the bar but after the day you had, you could make an exception. “Sure.”
Jimin looked at you with astonishment at your answer. Before he could ask why, Jungkook spoke up again. “Oh yay, Y/N is down! What about you, Jimin-ssi?”
“Oh, I, uh, I guess I’ll come too.”
“Alright, party! We’re ready to leave whenever you guys are unless someone needs to freshen up?”
You giggled at how Taehyung looked at you with a knowing grin. “I’ll only be ten minutes, promise.”
You let go of Jimin’s hands and got up to head to his room to get yourself together, leaving the three men alone in the living room.
“So when are you shooting your shot?”
Jimin’s head whipped over to give Jungkook a scowl. “Jungkook, we’re not talking about this right now.”
Of course Taehyung had to jump in next. “Come on Jimin, what are you waiting for? Her to make the first move? You’ve been waiting for years, this is getting sad.”
“Look, like I told you, it’s not the right time.”
Jungkook walked over and plopped down where you were previously sitting, shooting his roommate a no-nonsense look. “Jimin, it’s never the right time with you. I understand you’re scared to ask how she feels but it’s been over a month since she broke up with that douchebag and it’s only a matter of time before she moves onto the next prick who will break her heart again. Why not just tell her how you feel?”
Jimin laughed humorlessly, a hand coming up to push his hair back. “Yeah, tell her how I feel and possibly fuck up a fifteen-year friendship? Sounds like a grand plan, Kook.”
Before he could talk back, Taehyung came over to give his friend a scathing look. “Jimin, you’re one of my closest friends but when I say this, I say this out of love. You’re a fucking coward.”
Jimin shot up off the couch, baring his teeth at the other. “What did you just say?”
“I said you’re a coward, man! Do you really think you have no chance with Y/N whatsoever?”
“Of course, I’m her best friend, her guy best friend at that! What chance do I have?”
Taehyung gave his friend a disappointed look, shaking his head. “More of a chance than any of these other guys, that’s for sure. But you won’t take that chance because you’re scared of trying to turn your friendship into a relationship-“
He was cut off when Jimin grabbed a fistful of his shirt, bringing him close as he growled in his face. “You don’t understand, Taehyung, so don’t fucking act like you know what the hell I’ve been going through all these years.”
Jimin was just as surprised as the others as to how he was reacting. Normally he wouldn’t get this hostile when the guys grilled him on his feelings for you but the stress of everything to do with your situation lately had him on edge. One of the downsides to knowing you for so long was how empathetic you two were to each other’s emotions, like a dry sponge next to a tub of water. But who was Taehyung to act like confessing to you was so easy? If this was some romantic comedy, he would have done it ages ago if it guaranteed having you as his girlfriend.
But this was real life and the guy didn’t always get the girl at the end of the day.
He was nothing like the men you pursued so what made him think he ever had a chance with you?
“Alright guys, I’m ready!”
As soon as your voice echoed from the hallway, Jimin let go of Taehyung, the latter jumping back and fixing his shirt like it wasn’t balled up just now. Jungkook bit his lip, glad that you were returning as he was ready to jump in between the two in case things escalated. You entered the room to see Jimin giving you one of his sweet smiles, walking over to take your hand in his.
“Looking beautiful as always.”
Your cheeks heated up; you could never get used to his compliments. “Stop, I just powdered my face and put some gloss on. Ready to go, guys?”
Thankfully Jimin didn’t have to give them a look that said to act natural, the two giving you salutes. “Yes ma’am!”
Joseon was crowded like always but the four of you managed to secure a table somehow. After Jimin helped you up on one of the stools (prompting you to pout at him saying that you weren’t a little girl that needed help), Taehyung got everyone’s drink orders and headed up to the busy counter. Jungkook looked around the room with excitement, wondering if there was anyone he knew that was here. Meanwhile, Jimin leaned in to speak in your ear.
“You okay? Not too much for you?”
You shook your head. “No, surprisingly. The energy in here feels good, I think I’ll be okay.”
He gave you a nod. “Alright but if you ever want to go, let me know.”
You gave your friend a reassuring smile before looking at Jungkook. “Kookie, thanks for inviting us out. To be honest, I had a bit of a rough day, I think I could use some relaxation.”
Jungkook gave a bunny smile. “Of course! I was surprised you said yes but I’m glad. The more the merrier, right?”
Jimin tried not to glare at his roommate when he gave him a mischievous look. “I agree.”
“Alright, order up!”
Taehyung’s voice boomed as he arrived with a tray of your respective drinks plus a round of shots. “Shots too, Tae?”
He gave you a smirk. “First round is on me.”
You squinted your eyes at him. “Thank you but why do I feel like this is going to be one of many rounds?”
“Wow, you’ve got great intuition, Y/N.”
Jimin rolled his eyes as he handed you your glasses. “If the both of you get wasted, I’m leaving your asses in the street.”
Jungkook took his own drinks as he shot him a pout. “You’d really leave us inebriated out there?”
“After you threw up on my shirt last time, yes, I would.”
“Bitch.”
You giggled as they flipped each other off before you gave your friend a gentle smack on his arm. “Okay you two, stop fighting and let’s have a toast.”
“I agree, I can already see my drink watering down.” Taehyung picked up his shot glass and cleared his throat dramatically. “To us, may we get through another day of bullshit without wanting to jump in front of a bus.”
“Hear hear!”
Everyone clinked their glasses together before throwing back the liquid, shuddering at the slight burn.
“Fuck Tae, you got whiskey?!”
Taehyung nodded at Jimin. “Yeah, why not start off strong?”
Jimin grumbled, immediately sipping his other drink. “Could’ve gotten something that tastes better.”
The four of you talked about various subjects as the drinks dwindled down. Once everyone’s glass was empty, Jungkook offered to get refills and the next round, skipping over to the counter.
Jimin could usually handle his liquor but that damn whiskey was already making his body warm and his cheeks flushed. His self-control was also ebbing away as his eyes kept lingering on you longer than necessary whenever you were speaking, taking in how your nose scrunched when you talked about something you didn’t like or how strands of hair kept slipping out of your ponytail.
“Right, Jimin?”
Jimin blinked out of his trance as he heard you calling his name. “H-Huh?”
You shot him an amused look. “I said, it’s crazy how these local stores charge an arm and a leg for mediocre japchae but back home is still cheap for high quality, right?”
“O-Oh, yeah. So much better…”
Jimin blushed even more as he was caught slipping, taking a longer sip of his drink. He did his best to keep his eyes averted from his roommates’, noticing how the knowing gazes got more and more frequent as the night went on. His little display earlier in the living room would look like nothing compared to his possible reaction now, alcohol a bad influence on his behavior.
“I’ll be right back guys, just have to run to the ladies’ room.”
Everyone nodded before you went off to the back of the bar towards the restrooms. Jimin kept his eyes on your form, making sure you got there without some drunk guy trying to hit on you.
“Jimin.”
He jumped at the sound of Taehyung’s voice, turning to see him, along with Jungkook, giving him a scrutinizing look.
“Wh-What?”
“Are you alright?”
He did his best to shoot one of his bright smiles but he could feel the way one of the corners of his mouth twitched in protest. “Of course I am! I’ve got drinks and my friends around me, why wouldn’t I be alright?”
The two looked at each other before sighing. “Because you’ve been staring at Y/N like she’s the most fascinating thing in the world every time she so much as breathes. Not very subtle for someone who doesn’t want her to know that he’s in love with her.”
Jimin’s grip on his glass tightened as his eyes narrowed. “Guys, don’t start this shit again, please.”
“Hey, we’re trying to help you out now! You’re this close to blowing your cover so quit the staring, yeah?”
Jimin brought a hand up to rub his eyes, wondering how easy it would be for him to get two new roommates on such short notice. “Whatever.”
The three of them moved onto topics far away from Jimin’s romantic life, much to his relief. After some time, two random girls came up to their table, giving shy yet excited grins as they asked if the guys wanted to join them in playing darts. Jungkook and Taehyung agreed with no delay while Jimin declined, explaining that he was still waiting for someone. Of course Jungkook had to add on that the older man was a faithful boyfriend but that there was plenty of him and his friend to go around. Jimin was this close to throwing his empty shot glass at the younger man’s stupid head but the girls dragged him away just in time. Lucky bastard.
Now he sat alone, tapping his fingers on the slightly sticky table as he continued waiting. He hoped that you were alright, it usually didn’t take you this long to use the bathroom. Worrying that you may have gotten sick from the alcohol, Jimin unlocked his phone to send a message only for one to pop up on his screen immediately.
[Y/N 💞]: Chimmy, come back here ASAP
[Y/N 💞]: Please
Fearing the worst, Jimin jumped down from his stool and made a beeline for the restrooms (narrowly missing an elbow from someone who was attempting to krump). His brows furrowed as he didn’t see you anywhere in the narrow hallway. He pulled his phone back out.
[Chimchim 💛]: I’m here
Within a few seconds, the door to the womens’ room creaked open, your head poking out.
“Y/N, what’s wrong? Are you sick?”
You shook your head slowly. “N-No…well, I kind of feel like it now but…”
Jimin frowned. “Come out here.”
“I-I can’t.”
“Huh?”
You whispered, eyes darting out to the bar area. “He’s here.”
Confusion scattered across his face. “Who’s here, princess?”
You began chewing on your lower lip, trying to ignore the way your stomach churned. “Jung-woo…”
Jimin’s eyes widened, head whipping out to look at the crowd. “Shit, really? Where did you see him?”
“He was by the bar just now but I think he’s sitting at one of the tables nearby.”
Jimin looked closer, cursing when he saw the offender sitting down with a group of friends at the table right next to the hallway entrance. Just the sight of that douchebag made his blood boil. Who gave him the right to come out tonight and have fun while the girl he practically tossed to the streets was forced to hide in the bathroom?
“Y/N…we’ll sneak past him.”
“But Jimin!”
It hurt him how upset you looked at the thought but he was damned if he was going to watch this guy ruin your night.
“Y/N. Come on, I’ll cover you.” He held a hand out to you, a gentle smile on his plump lips. “Please? For me?”
You stared at his hand before looking between that and your ex, chewing the last of the gloss off your lips as you debated. “O-Okay…”
Jimin wiggled his fingers, teeth showing and eyes squinting. “Let’s go, beautiful.”
Now that smile he loved to see peeked out as you opened the door fully, putting your hand to intertwine with his as you stepped out. You were still nervous about having your ex spot you but when your best friend smiled at you like that and gave you one of your special nicknames, anything felt possible. He gave your hand a squeeze before he started leading you down the hallway.
But things took a turn for the worse when Jung-woo got up and started heading towards the both of you.
“Oh shit!” Your hushed exclamation came out before you hid behind Jimin’s taller form. “He’s going to see me!”
Jimin gulped, his brain scrambling for a solution to this sudden issue. There were only two places that you could both hide in and either one would cause a commotion that would surely bring unwanted attention. An idea flashed but just as quick as it arrived, he realized that it was a terrible one. But the options were limited and Jung-woo was getting closer and closer…
He quickly turned around to face you, giving you an apologetic look before grabbing your arms. “Jimin, wh-”
Jimin moved your body to press against the wall, pulling a gasp out of you as you looked up with widened eyes. Licking his suddenly dry lips, he leaned down and whispered. “Quick, kiss me!”
Your mouth dropped at what he said, not expecting your best friend to ask such a thing out of you but judging by the desperate look in his eyes, he had no choice. So you reached a hand up, held the back of his neck and pulled his head down to press his lips to yours.
Jimin could only imagine in his wildest dreams how it would have felt to kiss you, implanting the sensation of your lips pressing to his cheeks or forehead to a more wanted area. But those little fantasies were nothing compared to experiencing the real thing. Your lips were slightly sticky from leftover gloss and the mixed drink you had earlier, the flavors mixing and transferring to him. They felt soft and molded well against his own but stayed still. He would have preferred to have them moving but beggars couldn’t be choosers, right? Besides, this wasn’t a real kiss, merely a diversion. He tried not to deflate at the thought.
But then your lips started moving against his own, pulling a sound of shock from him.
He deluded himself into the reason why his hands came up to cup your face afterwards, thinking that it would hide your face from your ex and not because he wanted to touch you.
Right?
Jimin didn’t know how long the two of you had your lips locked but he was alerted by the sound of one of the bathroom doors shutting behind him. Forcing himself to pull away from your mouth, he studied your face, seeing your eyes shut and your lips parted as little puffs of air escaped. An irrational part of him was tempted to go back in but then your eyes opened, housing a mixture of emotions that he wasn’t ready to address.
His voice croaked out. “I-I’m sorry Y/N…I couldn’t think of anything else…”
Your voice was just as shaky as you looked down at his neck. “It’s fine, Jimin…y-you did what you had to…”
Now the giddiness he was feeling was quickly morphing into anxiety as he felt an unbearable tension wash over the two of you. Was his idea of kissing you really better than hiding in one of the restrooms? Did he fuck things up?
Dammit.
“...we should head back before he comes out.”
It took a couple of seconds for you to process, nodding slowly as you let him take your hand before leading the both of you back to the table. The two of you didn’t even get a chance to sit down before Jungkook came running over, his cheeks reddened and lifted as he encouraged you to come over and join the game of darts. Jimin accepted immediately, wanting some type of distraction from the swirling mass in his chest; even better, the girls had bought a round of shots for everyone. He did his best to focus on the game rather than give in to the urge to knock back more liquor than needed, already seeing that his roommates would need some help getting back home. But it was hard, especially with you standing so close to him.
And he swore that every time he looked in your direction, your head swiveled back to whatever place it was in before.
Thankfully (or not), closing time began approaching, the lights brightening up the bar. After Jungkook and Taehyung got the numbers of their new friends (even though they had to be told twice so they entered the right digits), Jimin and you helped them into an Uber, barely listening to them as they rambled about what they were going to eat when they got home. The four of you reached the front door and waited as Jimin fumbled with the keys.
“Son of a-”
You frowned as you adjusted your body to accommodate the weight of Jungkook leaning on you. “What is it?”
“This fucking door won’t take the key even though I know it’s the right one!”
Taehyung looked up at him from where he sat against the wall, lidded eyes squinting as he studied said key. “…dude, that’s for the mailbox.”
Jimin paused and blinked owlishly, realizing his friend was right.
“Oh…”
Shaking his head, he shuffled through until he finally got the correct key, unlocking the door and letting everyone go in first. One kiss and he didn’t even know how to open his goddamn front door anymore.
After heating up and sharing a frozen pizza, Jungkook and Taehyung peaced out, you giving them a reminder to set their alarms for work as they went into their rooms. Which left you and Jimin alone. He didn’t even have a chance to say a syllable before you shot up out of your chair.
“I’m going to go change.”
All Jimin could do was nod, watching you close until you disappeared down the hall, letting out a deep sigh as his hands rubbed at his face. He was starting to believe that he really messed things up with his ‘brilliant’ plan at the bar. You were probably freaked out that your best friend would think that there was no other choice but to plant his lips on you to save you from an unwanted encounter with your ex. What the hell was he thinking?
“Jimin, I’m done.”
He was brought out of his lamenting by your soft voice. Jimin looked up, his heart skipping at you wearing one of his older hoodies he had given you years ago. Would you wear the clothing of someone who you were mad at?
“Okay.”
He stood up and began making his way to his room until you called out to him. “Jimin.”
Turning his head, he saw you giving him a timid smile, hands toying with the too long sleeves. “Come watch a movie with me?”
Jimin couldn’t help his eyes widening at your request. “Sure.”
Once he changed into a loose T-shirt and cotton pajama pants, the two of you sat on the couch in the dark, picking a random movie on Netflix and letting it play. Whatever bit of normalcy Jimin had felt before evaporated as the minutes passed. For starters, the two of you would usually be sitting close to each other, thighs touching as you shared a blanket, but there was a few inches of space in between now. Commentary would also be coming out of your mouths but other than the TV, it was completely silent in the room. But you broke the silence after some time with a heavy, drawn-out sigh, pulling your best friend’s gaze.
“Y/N? You okay?”
You bit your lip as you stared at the TV, debating for a second if you should dare to ask the question that had been on your mind all night.
“Y/N.”
You turned your head, giving your best friend an inquisitive look.
“Jimin…are you in love with me?”
Jimin’s heart could have stopped at that moment, not expecting that of all things to come out your mouth.
“Wh-What?”
Now you rotated your whole body towards him. “I said…are you in love with me?”
Jimin gaped at you while his trembling fingers dug into his thighs. “Y-Y/N, why would you…why would you ask me something like that?”
Your eyes hardened a mite, not wanting him to avoid the question. “Answer me…please.”
This was it. This was the point of no return. But he couldn’t help but bemoan that this wasn’t how he wanted it to go.
He wanted to be dressed to the nines with you at a special place of significance before he confessed the entirety of his feelings for you. How your smile brightened the worst of his days. How his heart skipped a beat whenever he saw you in anything from a hoodie to a dress. How every man you had dated in the past never got his approval because they weren’t him. How he was ready to go to jail because of Jung-woo rendering you homeless. How the last month of having you live with him was the best month of his life.
God, he was so in love with you.
Even if you didn’t feel the same, you deserved a straightforward answer.
Jimin straightened his shoulders and turned his body to face you now, his full lips pursed while his fingers continued digging into his pants. “How did you know?”
Your face expressed shock; as suspicious as you were that there was some truth, you still didn’t expect it to come out of his mouth. “I…I heard you guys arguing. Before we left here, I ran to the bathroom and I…I eavesdropped a bit. I didn’t plan to but-” You bit your lip, hiding your hands under the long sleeves. “You sounded upset.”
“Y/N…”
“And then…the rest of the night happened and I just…” You let out a short laugh. “It’s like I had an epiphany and everything that you’ve been doing over the years just hit me at once. That’s why I’ve been so quiet since then…”
Jimin couldn’t help the heat creeping up his neck when you admitted to hearing the argument. Were they really that loud?
But that was the least of his concerns right now.
“I see…”
The silence blanketed over again, the movie long forgotten now. You decided to break it once more.
“You haven’t said it yet.”
“What?”
You clenched your hidden fists, barely able to hold your friend’s gaze. “You only asked me how I knew…you haven’t said how you felt yet.”
Jimin nearly choked on the lump in his throat but he forced it down, taking a deep breath before speaking. “Y/N…I am in love with you. I have been for a long time. I can’t say exactly when it started but just know that’s it been like this for years. I always wanted to say something but…”
He looked down at his clenched hands for a few seconds before looking up at you again. “You always were seeing someone and even though I hated most of those assholes, I couldn’t bring myself to ruin it for you. Even if it was brief, you were happy. At the end of the day, that’s all I wanted for you.”
“Jimin…”
He took in a breath before letting out a quivering sigh. “But it hurt, you know? It hurt having to see you gush about the dates they took you on or the things they bought you, knowing that you would never act like that for me. I mean, I should be happy that we’re as close as we are but it’s never enough, Y/N. You would never look at me that way, no matter how badly your heart got broken. So I decided at some point…”
Another breath. “I decided that as long as I got to be by your side and keep you happy in any way I can, it would be enough. Even if I had to watch you be with someone else, I would keep loving you in my own way. Because I would rather have you in my life and be silent than have you leave me.”
There was so much more that Jimin wanted to say but that lump in his throat returned, choking back the words as he stared at his lap. A melancholy part of him figured that there was no point in wasting his breath anyways. Now that his feelings were out in the open, you had every right to shut him down in that gentle way that you would.
But a sudden hiccup caught his attention.
He looked up, only for his eyes to widen as he saw tears streaming down your face.
“Y-Y/N…”
“J-Jimin…you-” Another hiccup. “You…all this time…y-you’ve been feeling like this all this time?”
“Y-Yes…” Shit, he didn’t think you would cry. He hated to see you cry. “I-I’m sorry, look, you don’t have to entertain my nonsense, I know you don’t feel the same way and-”
He never finished his sentence as your body flew into his, forcing him to wrap his arms around you as his back landed on the cushions. Blinking in shock, he saw you now straddling his hips, your face twisted into an expression of barely-concealed anger.
“Park Jimin…how do you know I don’t feel the same way?”
“I-I…” He swallowed. “I just…assumed.”
Your frown grew. Lifting up one of your arms, you wiped your face dry with the sleeves, sniffling before speaking again. “Jimin…why didn’t you ever say anything? You’ve been suffering all of these years and I just ran around oblivious to your feelings…I’m such a shitty friend.”
Jimin frowned, hands coming up to land on your hips, giving them a gentle squeeze. “No you’re not…don’t say that, Y/N.”
“But I am!” You grit your teeth, trying to fight back a new wave of tears. “All this time you’ve loved me and you’ve shown it too, more than any of my exes have…without me having to ask or even beg. I should have known from the start…”
Jimin had to strain his ears to hear your next words.
“Maybe then we could have been together.”
If his heart was weak, he would have had a heart attack at what you said.
His mouth gaped, opening and closing a few times before he croaked out. “What…what did you just say?”
You gave him a watery smile, reaching down to brush a strand of hair off his forehead. “I said, maybe we could have been together. Then I wouldn’t have had to waste my time with all of these other guys.”
Jimin couldn’t believe it.
His ears were hearing everything you said but his brain was working overtime to process it.
Did you...?
“Y/N…”
“Yes?”
He sat up, having you in his lap now as his hands reached into your sleeves, interlacing his fingers with your own. “Does…does that mean you love me too?”
With your teeth on full display, you gave him an assuring nod. “I do.”
Tightening his hold, he whispered. “Say it. Please.”
You squeezed back, licking your lips before speaking softly. “I love…no, I’m in love with you, Jimin. I think I have been all these years too but I never realized it until this last month. You’ve done so much for me…how could I not fall in love with a man like you?”
There it was.
Those words that he had only ever heard in his dreams, the ones that left his heart aching when he woke up.
You loved him just like he loved you.
All Jimin could do was capture your lips with his own, not wanting you to see the tears that started spilling onto his own cheeks as well. But then you started kissing him back, causing a sob to escape and vibrate against your lips. Your hands came up to hold his jaw, your fingertips brushing against the softness of his cheeks. His arms moved to wrap around your waist, pulling your soft body tight against his firmer one. While your lips continued moving in sync, Jimin maneuvered your bodies at some point, you underneath him while his hips rested between your parted legs. This moment between the two of you had been chaste until now, him feeling the heat of you pressed to his clothed length. He realized that you weren’t wearing any shorts underneath his hoodie, prompting an unconscious roll of his hips in response to the discovery.
“Mm-”
The muffled moan you had let out brought him back to his senses, pulling his lips away to pant out. “I-I’m sorry…too much?”
You bit back a whine as his hips stilled. “N-No…”
Jimin’s body stiffened when you brought a leg up to hook around his waist. “Do that again…”
If it wasn’t the way you said those three words, it was the way you looked up at him, those beautiful eyes of yours lidded and tinted with budding desire. Licking his lips, Jimin nodded and continued rolling against you, biting back a groan at the tingles of pleasure he was starting to feel.
“Y/N…mnh-”
Hearing your name spoken like that made your core clench, the weight of his body starting to provide a pleasant friction for you. Wanting to help him out as well, you rolled your own hips up in time. Although not as fluid as Jimin’s, it got the result you wanted, a moan falling from those plush lips as his eyes closed for a bit.
“Oh shit…mm-”
Jimin sped up his movements, starting to feel his cock harden from the stimulation, providing something more straightforward to your pleasure. His covered length fit between your clothed folds perfectly, allowing him to rub against you from the bottom all the way to the top, managing to catch your clit at the very end.
“A-Ah-!”
A sharp gasp left you as your hands came up to grip onto his toned biceps, a strong wave of pleasure running through your body as the sensitive bud was touched. He opened his eyes to look at you, a corner of his mouth twitching at your expression.
“Like that, princess?”
That nickname had a completely different effect on you now due to your current predicament, your fingers digging into his arms. “Yes…”
He chuckled huskily at your response, leaning his lips down to plant kisses all over your neck, trying to find those spots that made you give out more of those little mewls (you fucking mewled; he was surprised he didn’t come in his pants by now). “You make such beautiful sounds, love…”
You whimpered at his words of praise, hiking your leg up higher to allow him to press closer to you. “More, please…”
Jimin let out a soft growl at your plea, latching his mouth onto the juncture of your neck and shoulder before sucking hard as he put more force behind his hips, forcing you to hold back a cry in case Jungkook or Taehyung heard (those two were usually dead to the world when under the influence but there was a first time for everything). It was a shame how he couldn’t hear louder sounds from you but he would take what he could get, the quieter noises enough fodder for him.
Now his cock was completely hard from the movements, starting to feel a dampness soaking through the fabric of his pants onto his underwear, cursing in his head at how wet this was making you. A mumbled whimper came from you all of a sudden.
“Hm? What’s that, baby?”
You swallowed hard, giving a harsh roll up. “I-I’m going to come, Jimin…”
“Fuck-”
But all too soon, his hips stilled and pulled away, making you look up at him with betrayal. Holding back a giggle, Jimin reached down and rubbed your hips, his hoodie having ridden up to expose your lower half. “Relax, princess, I’m not going to leave you hanging like that.”
“That’s not what it feels like…”
Jimin bit down on his bottom lip as his eyes zeroed in on the large wet spot on your panties. “I won’t.”
Standing up (you gnawed on your lip at the prominence in his pants), he bent down and picked you up, prompting you to wrap your limbs around him as his hands cupped your ass. Making sure you were secure, he began walking towards the hallway, rasping quietly to you. “If we’re going to do this, we’re going to do this properly.”
Realizing what he was implying, your core tightened at the possibilities of what he was going to do to you in his bed. Those said possibilities ranged from pleasant to mind-blowing as the two of you got to know each other’s bodies. You were both seeing a new side of each other, the experience exciting yet nerve-wracking as you had to learn what the other liked and didn’t like. But once the former was figured out, you both wasted no time in using the new info to make each other let out noises that often had to be muffled by hands or pillows. This continued until daylight started to peek over the horizon, forcing the both of you to call it quits as his roommates would be getting up soon to get ready for work. While you both laid down, legs tangled with each other, you looked into each other’s eyes, refusing to go to sleep just yet.
“Hey Y/N.”
“Hm?”
Jimin flicked his tongue over his swollen lips. “You know…you don’t have to keep looking for a place…”
Your eyebrows raised. “What do you mean?”
Reaching out and brushing a strand of hair off your damp forehead, he answered. “I mean, you could keep living with me. But if you do want to move out, then…then I could go with you, if you wanted.”
Your mouth popped into an ‘O’, understanding now. With everything that happened within the last day, you had completely forgotten about your apartment search. Hearing Jimin’s words made your chest warmer than it already was. Even though you had been looking diligently, there was a part of you that didn’t really want to leave his side. You couldn’t remember the last time you were able to be around him as often as you were this last month and the thought of it being taken away made you uneasy.
“I…I don’t mind staying. But will the others be okay with it?”
Jimin grinned. “I’m sure they will be. You noticed how fast they warmed up to you? It’s like you’ve been living with us for years.”
You giggled, cheeks heating up. “If you say so.”
“I know so. You don’t have to make a decision now, love, just wanted to throw that option out there.”
You nodded, even though you already had your answer.
Jimin gave one of his sweet smiles and scooted closer to you, wanting to feel the rest of your body on his as you two drifted off into dreamland. You let yourself be pulled into his arms, burying your face in the crook of his neck, the light scent of his cologne and sweat filling your nostrils. As the two of you quietly cuddled, Jimin couldn’t help but wonder what you would decide about the apartment situation.
Either way, he knew that wherever you would go, he would be right behind you.
