3 Non-Romantic Duos

Frodo and Sam (LotR)

Been in a bit of a Tolkien mood recently so I’ll start here. These two… just. Everything about them. The sheer amount of loyalty and care. The heartbreaking split that starts because Frodo sees his end in Gollum and Sam does not want to. The fact that neither could have made it half as far as they did alone. I really do feel like they love each other TOO much for me to ever see it as romantic. Man, they just mean so much to me.

Honestly the adventures of a kid and his ambiguously magical stuffed tiger will always mean a lot to me.

A Ship that Might Surprise Others

…Uhhhhhhhhhhhh I dunno? I’m pretty open about my ships here and I feel like enough of them are pretty different that I don’t know any would surprise people? I dunno maybe someone was mildly surprised by the kinda Qcard post (which ain’t even entirely true, I see it as 100% one-sided) but uhhhhhhh.

So, while not surprising, I don’t post much about FMA despite being HUGE on it when I was a young teen. And y’know what? I did always like them

now, let’s discuss the 13 20 21 22 sleepless nights from taylor’s past:

- this isn’t a surprise is you follow me considering how often i’ve gone crazy over how roy coded antihero is

- the concept of the album is 13 midnights from taylor’s past that she’s revisiting. though the album feels more like a conversation between taylor’s relationship to fame and her personal life AND from very recent events of finding out when certain songs were written (jack antonoff you petty as bitch i love you) the album has a deeper meaning. while still about 13 nights from taylor’s past it also feels like it’s her trying to find a way to save her current relationship and she’s doing that by looking back at old relationships and how’s those failed/ended or started to understand what is going wrong now.

- it also feels like a threat at times to yogurt boy (ex boyfriend i won’t name) that she can leave though it’s clear she doesn’t want to leave. she wants to make this work because of all he did to help at her lowest of lows and helped show her a different aspect of life she could have. but her partner isn’t giving anything. and she is slowly dying.

- …

- alright now that i’m done with my rant, that very well be edited later because we’re getting new taylore by the fucking day and it’s changing perspectives on EVERYTHING, we can move on

- this album has been criticized for not having as deep of lyrics as her previous two albums (cause people are fucking idiots and can’t read anything past a pop beat ((STARES AT AYHTDWS))) but the album is still full of great lines and songs that show us different sides of taylor.

- i do however think that based off how the album is presented and shown it feels very roy coded. with the album showing different sides of taylor and her past regrets and knowing just how different her life could be if she did just one thing differently (john mayer i am in your fucking walls). this resonates a lot with roy’s character and what we know about his life

- most notably the song anti-hero is roy coded as hell. a monster of your own making and the deep fear of driving the person you love away because of your own hands… that’s roy baby!

- but that theme carry’s over into several other songs such as midnight rain or you’re on your own kid. and while those songs are different stories and from a female perspective, there is still a voice of loneliness in them and your past decisions haunting you and being unable to escape it. that you had wanted of this one thing for so long but now that you got it you fully see the damage it has done not only to you but others and now have to live with the decision. this comes through for taylor as her wanting to be famous and her disliking of celebrity life as she doesn’t see herself as human anymore, while for roy he views himself as a monster for his previous actions and is doing everything he can to try and right his wrongs

- both have a similar view of themselves but also feel like this is their own fault. they both made their bed now they must lie in it.

- so i wander through these nights/i prefer hiding in plain sight/this fourth drink in my hand/these DESPERATE PRAYERS OF A CURSED MAN!/spilling out to you for free…/but darling darling please you wouldn’t take me word for it if you knew who was talking…/if you knew where i was walking…/to a house, not a home, all alone cause nobody’s there…/where i pace in my pen and my friends found people who care…/no one sees you lose when you’re playing solitaire

- (of course user dearreader assigns sad little meow meow as dear reader)

- everything i touch becomes sick with sadness…

- all of me changed like midnight rain/he wanted it comfortable i wanted that pain

- i have this thing where i get older but just never wiser

- sometimes i feel like everyone’s a sexy baby and i’m a monster on the hill/to big to hang out slowly lurching toward your favorite city/pierced through the heart but never killed/did you hear my cover narcissism i disguise as altruism like some kind of congressman?

- do you see the difference? i love how riza walked several steps behind roy while still protected him. riza doesn't put roy in the basement. she’s not afraid of his shine. she lets him bejeweled.

- there are love songs on here that i’ve already talked about being royai coded in their own posts and or me feral posting about royai (labyrinth, sotb, sweet nothing, lavender haze, etc.) and like… yeah that’s there.

- also, while i don’t view the song in this way, it has been pointed out to me how you’re losing me is very Roy vs. Envy coded and i have to acknowledge that here but not in my own heart cause if i do that then ill lose my mind over the song even more than i already do.

Oh, yeah, I’m a bit familiar with the Japanese dub of Assassin’s Creed and I watch Demon Slayer when it’s airing in Japan then I rewatch it in the English dub because I enjoy watching English dubs in general XD.

Altaïr is voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi

(Sombron/Hubert/Xander/Randal from Fire Emblem, @princesslikesfanfics might recognize him as Tory Innis from Ancient Magus’ Bride, Diavolo from Jojo, Lloyd Irving from Tales series, America/Canada from Hetalia, and mecha fans might recognize him as our bestest aniki Kamina)

For the actual ask portion:

Altaïr would probably be annoyed at Uzui at first because he’s so flashy. They’d probably spar and Altaïr would start to respect him after understanding that, underneath all that ‘flashiness’, Uzui is strong and has conviction (side note: Uzui’s three wives makes me think Makio - Maria, Hinatsuru - Adha and Suma - Kadar XD)

Ezio would think of Sanemi as having skills and potential but he won’t like his attitude. AC2!Ezio would definitely butt heads with Sanemi a lot, especially after he sees how Sanemi acts around his younger brother (since he doesn’t know the whole story) and he’d definitely try to act like a nice big brother to Genya, Brotherhood!Ezio and Revelations!Ezio would not be provoked by Sanemi and act more like an older brother/mentor role that Sanemi doesn’t want at all and thinks is super annoying.

Haganezuka would totally like Ratonhnhaké:ton because Ratonhnhaké:ton would take care of any weapon he receives from Haganezuka. Ratonhnhaké:ton will also be willing to listen to Haganezuka talk about swords for houurrrss. Achilles would have to be the one to smack Haganezuka to get out of the homestead after giving Ratonhnhaké:ton his sword. (Why is Achilles there? Idk, crossover???)

All I can think of is Arno getting adopted by the Kamado family. Tanjuro is quite frail and he’s been sick for a while now so their meeting would probably remind Arno of his late father. But, man, just imagine Arno dancing Hinokami Kagura…

Oh god. Enmu would totally fuck with Jacob using his dreams/nightmares. Like, every pain and weakness Jacob has, Enmu would take advantage of it. Worst of all? Jack the Ripper's actions would definitely haunt Jacob till the day he dies so Enmu using Jack in the attack would really hurt. Enmu wasn’t even a good person as a human but considering Jacob’s luck and bad judge of character? Absolutely won’t be surprised if he invites human!Enmu to the Rooks as a ‘doctor’.

I think Bayek has a good chance of taking out Yahaba. Dude got an actual flaming sword in the main story and I’m sure Reda would have a weapon made of Scarlet Crimson Iron Sand and Scarlet Ore for some reason and, as long as Bayek understood how Yahaba’s blood demon art works, he’d be fine. Bayek took out giant gods (in the Animus), he can take out this demon.

Oh, Aya would not like Daki at all. She might even be reminded of Cleopatra a bit because of her arrogant and dismissive personality which wouldn’t help the situation. They’d definitely fight and… Aya would probably need help on this one. I’m not sure if she ever got into any Isu BS that ended in a boss fight so I can’t be sure how she would handle fighting Daki and her obi attacks. Human!Daki though? Aya would definitely recruit her and her brother to the Hidden Ones if she found them as kids. But if she saw her as her usual cruel self? Yeah, Aya’s not going to like her.

70. "You're warm."

The snow started at midnight.

Ed, who had grumbled most of the day about his leg and shoulder aching, was dead asleep across the room. Al had sat up reading, a habit he still found hard to break, and was startled out of dozing over his book by a sharp moan of wind under the eaves.

Snow.

He blinked at the window, then jumped up from his bed, hurried to open the curtain wider.

Already the white flakes were coming down fast, drawing a ghostly cover over the countryside. Al imagined the sheep pulled safely into their pens and barns, pressed together for warmth, and he smiled to himself.

His breath started to fog against the glass, and he shivered a little, but more from excitement than anything.

He couldn't remember the last time he'd been able to play in the snow and feel cold. Maybe it was an odd thing to look forward to, but he wanted to stick his fingers in the fluffy white stuff, and pack it between his hands. Feel it melting against his skin, his fingertips tingling, and then sticking them in mitts to warm them. He looked forward to all of that.

"Al?"

He turned from the window. Ed pushed himself up on one elbow, peering at him with a sleepy frown.

"Why are you still awake? You should be asleep?"

Al shrugged, sheepish. "I, ah, was just sitting up reading. Then I heard the wind, and saw the snow had started."

"You shouldn't stay up, Al," Ed grumbled. "You should sleep."

Because you can now, was the unspoken addition, and Al nodded.

"I know, brother."

"Turn off that light, and get over here," Ed ordered, shoving back his blankets to open a space beside him.

Al bit back his smile, though he suspected Ed was sleepy enough not to get self-conscious. "Alright, alright, brother, just wait."

He went back to his nightstand, to mark his place and properly close the novel he was halfway through. He switched out the light, waited several seconds for his eyes to adjust.

When he crawled in beside Ed, his big brother immediately cuddled up against his back, draping one arm over Al's side.

Al made a little noise of pleasure. "You're warm."

"I wasn't the idiot standing at the window," Ed muttered, words slurring slightly. His forehead rested against the back of Al's neck, and Al had to be careful not to pull the blankets up too high over his shoulder.

The wind keened around the house again, rattled the shutters, and now Al thought he could hear the snow, whispering against the glass.

Al closed his eyes. Ed's breathing was deep and even now.

"Remember when we were kids?" Al whispered. "And it was hard to heat the house? So we would put every blanket on your bed, and sleep under there together? And you'd sing me songs to take my mind off being cold, until we got warm enough to fall asleep?"

No reply.

Al smiled to himself. Tomorrow, he'd enjoy feeling the cold snow on his skin. Tonight he was happy and content with his big brother's arm wrapped around him, with Ed sleeping solidly at his back.

Not everything in Al's life had changed.

Snow piled on the windowsill, as the two brothers slept, wrapped in each other's warmth.

so, i'm raka. i've lurked around the internet for a little while now--since I was about five. restricted internet access? don't know her. i only started really participating in online communities when i was about 10, on quotev and amino (rip, it was a shitshow but i had a good time for the most part). at some point i just kinda...fell off of trying to find internet spaces? it didn't really feel fun anymore, y'know? i went back to lurking, looking at stuff i enjoyed/making things in silence.

well, fuck that. if i wanna have fun, i'm gonna make it fun. i love drawing, i always have!! i've been drawing since i was about five or six. it's always been an escape for me during REALLY rough times--it made me happy to draw my favorite characters, and even create my own! i love interacting with fandom spaces too, finding folks who are into the same stuff i am. connecting with strangers is fun, when you don't really know anybody irl who shares your exact interests!

He also didn’t expect for the country’s border to open. Well, kinda. With Grumman as the new President Furher and newly promoted Brigadier General Roy Mustang at his side, they ended the skirmishes between Aurego, Creta, and Drachma. They also returned Ishbalans Holy Land of Ishbal. Of course, there was still complications here there, but that was to be expected. Ed, now Major General, was headed for central after a summons from Mustang. And according to the papers he received from Hawkeye, a foreign country called Japan has requested a meeting between a Delegate and their Minister to form an alliance of sort. But Ed has one main question to this mission. What’s a Quirk? Anime with a Favourite Opening/Ending Song:

While this was a touch choice, and almost went to Attack on Titan, I picked Jujutsu Kaisen because it's one of the rare anime when I love all the openings. If I had to pick a favourite opening it's a tie between VIVID VICE and Specialz.

Anime you recommend others watch:

Without a shadow of a doubt I recommend Anohana to everyone. It's a coming of age story centred around a difficult topic, yet there are light moments. However, it's an anime that always makes me cry, so be prepared to not just watch a coming of age story but also an emotional character dive.

Anime that shares a genre with the centre anime:

It would have been easy to pick another adventure/fantasy/sci-fi anime and call it a day, but I think I did well picking Sabikui Bisco. The anime is set in a post apocalyptic wasteland. There is awe and wonder outside of the city but also danger. Government cannot be trusted and medicine/scientific advancement is a key element to the story, which are all elements that FMA has.

Anime that shares Eng. VA with touching square:

Laura Bailey who voices Lust in FMA also voices Tohru Honda in Fruits Basket! Actually, Fruits Basket and FMA have many English VA overlaps, but Laura is the one I first thought of!

Favourite Anime of All Time:

Fullmetal Alchemist is my favourite manga of all time, so I had to go with the 2009 remake. While the 2003 anime still holds a nostalgic place in my heart, nothing compares to the manga's story to me.

From the plot, pacing, character arcs and design, and art direction I truly believe Fullmetal Alchemist is a near perfectly written and produced series from Hiromu Arakawa.

Anime that shares Japanese VA with touching square:

Paku Romi who voices Edward Elric in the Japanese version of FMA also voices Hitsugaya Toshiro in Bleach.

Shares a Similar MC Energy with centre square:

The obvious comparison is Senku and Edward are both genius scientists who did the impossible (Senku with his counting and Edward with human transmutation), however there are other traits the two share. Both have a bit of a mischievous side and both can be singularly focused on their scientific goals. Finally, both are hopeful in the face of peril and use their wits and scientific knowledge to win in the end.

Also, as an extra fun fact the English VA for Senku is Aaron Dismuke who voiced Alfonse Elric in the original 2003 FMA anime.

I've been reading My Hero Academia (or BNHA) for years. While I don't own it, I read it on the Shonen Jump app. It's a series I'm also enjoying the anime adaptation.

A series with your favourite ship/ship dynamic:

Soukoku (or Dazai/Chuuya from Bungou Stray Dogs) is both my favourite ship in the series and also my favourite ship dynamic.

My favourite part about Soukoku as a ship is the underlying loyalty and trust the two have in one another. Despite everything: their personality clash, their first meeting, Dazai betraying the Port Mafia, they still care for one another. In their own weird ways, yes, but care none the less. How else can the series explain the convoluted schemes in both Dead Apple and in Season 5? That's some "we're two halves of the same whole" level of trust there. They're not even being subtle.

14. Favorite Soundtrack?

I was SO hoping someone would ask this because the soundtrack for tri strat goes so hard hahaha. I think my overall favorite has gotta be "Combat -Destiny-" because DANG that opening and the moment the guitar comes in is so so so good!!!! It's also the song that plays during the level you fight in the gardens against Avlora, which is one of my favorites. But I do also really enjoy just the plain battle prep song, "Arise, Warriors." It's the first song I think of when I think of Tri Strat's ost, and it's just got such a fun oomph to it.

Also side note but the composer for Triangle Strategy is Akira Senju, the same guy who did Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood! "Crimson Might" in particular is one I listen to and always go ":D :D :D FMA music!!!!"

15. Favorite character dynamic and relationship (and why)?

Avlora and Cordelia probably have my favorite dynamic! I have so many thoughts and feelings about their relationship and how they think of each other. Watching as Avlora went on the journey of "hmph. a spoiled princess from a corrupt royal family" > "if she wants to ask questions I suppose I'll answer" > "hey. hold on. she's really struggling. am I supposed to just sit back and watch?" > "I'm going to die for you actually" was so fun and cool, and similarly I love seeing Cordelia reach out to her more and more for advice and help. I go a little insane every time I think about how much Cordelia comes to emulate Avlora in a lot of ways (standing up for herself, dedicating herself to her duty, even her whole Self-sacrifice spell is really similar to Avlora's Reckless Maneuver).

They're just so so so cool both as individuals and as a team. I mentioned in the other ask that I think about their relationship as platonic/familial, and it really gets to me when I think about the fact that neither of them have really had a ton of familial support during their lives (Avlora due to the whole being an orphan thing, and Cordelia just for being the youngest of three children who kind of got underestimated and ignored). I think both of them really genuinely want the other to be happy and to provide that support that neither of them ever had and. it just makes me feel real normal about it all.

16. Any headcanons you enjoy?

I mentioned the Maxwell thing on a different ask, but I also have a ton of worldbuilding-type headcanons that I'm really fond of!! One of my favorites is the idea that, since salt is pretty rare, Norzelia probably turned to other methods of preserving food. One common way to do this is through sticking low-water-content fruits/vegetables in honey, THUS I propose that Glenbrook in particular (no Source and no snowy mountains to keep food frozen) has a prolific beekeeping industry we just happen to never hear about. (I also think a lot about the fact that people in Aesfrost for instance have probably never eaten a tomato before but probably have had ice cream at least once)

23. Any unpopular opinions?

Hmmm okay not sure if this is an unpopular opinion so much as an uncommon experience but I didn't actually feel that bad when Dragan died the first time around. I saw other people posting about how crushed they were that he died and I kinda went "........... the guy who got wasted at a party, attempted to threaten his own home country into giving him power, and then lied directly to Frederica, Roland, and Serenoa's faces about it? I'm always down for a little treason but c'mon he wasn't even GOOD at it"

He's definitely grown on me since then though, especially since we later on get to see more of just how much Svarog loved him + how much helping his dad must have been a part of Dragan's decision to do what he did. And on subsequent playthroughs I was able to pay more attention to how much he cared about Frederica and Serenoa by extension. I still think he's not good at the whole treason thing but that's part of his charm and I love him for it <3

Last song: Been jumping back and forth between my own playlist of faves and Pav's, so my most recent songs were "On the Other Side of the Mirage" from Tales of Vesperia (it's so relaxing, puts me to sleep every time) and "......" from Fire Emblem Awakening (half of the YouTube comments section was people cursing the songwriters for naming the song only ellipses lol)

Last movie: It's been a hot minute since I've watched an actual movie all the way through, maybe Turning Red or one of the more recent Star Trek movies? It was probably before Christmas, at least. I started watching one of the Hobbit movies too but I fell asleep 😅

Currently watching: The Legend of Vox Machina S2!!!! My sister got me into Critical Role last year by showing me the first season, and this second season has been even better in terms of overall quality! We've also been watching campaign 2, so you can imagine how excited we were to hear that they'll be animating The Mighty Nein 😄

Currently playing: Ok this is going to be a long list, I have a habit of juggling lots of games at once. Currently my longplay game is my very first playthrough of Persona 4, accompanied by my good friends @one-bit-oat @askr (feel free to answer this prompt too guys!!!) It's been very fun so far as my introduction to the series, though I'm really slow and kinda bad at it 😅 Meanwhile my sister and I have been alternating between playing Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Sengoku Basara 3 in couch co-op, I'm more of a fan of the latter since I've gotten really attached to these goofy samurai. Lastly, I've been trying to catch up on some good 3DS RPG titles so I'm working on 100%ing (or close enough) Rune Factory 4 and Miitopia. RF4 has been especially fun, I love repeatedly confessing my love to pretty boys who keep turning me down because I chose to be male 😅

Current obsession: This changes constantly, like two weeks ago it would have been RF4 and one week ago it would have been pokemon TCG, but after watching Pav stream Tales of Graces f, I got nostalgic for it and have been working on my old long fic amidst some sickness. It got me out of my writer's block at least, which I'm very grateful for, now I just need to get out of my art block 😔

headcanons for the useless/annoying ghost vestiges au??

I love this AU so much

- Ive mentionned it once but Oboro haunts Kurogiri, mostly just commenting on his shitty parenting of Tomura as if he's watching a bad TV show because no one can hear him. His life is like watching a bad spanish telenovela or a cooking show and screaming at the people that no dont do that its stupid as shit and they still do it.

- AfO is also haunted by a bunch of ghosts who's only goal are to inconvenience him in the slightest way possible. They are either good friends with the OfA ghost crew (in the "same hat" kind of way) or there is some kind of stupid rivalry between them (like two differents group of kid at holidays camp).

- There exists other ghosts but like the Ghosts show they mostly just haunt one place in particular, the reason for the ofa ghosts (and oboro and afo ghost) haunting a person is because of quirk bullshit (also it might be the OfA users are unable to move on until Afo's defeated)

- While the other ghosts are busy thirsting over Aizawa, Nana has a crush on Ms. Joke. (And maybe Midnight as well).

- When they start living at the dorms the other 1A students realises how weird Izuku truly is, like they knew he had his weirdness, but then they realise that "oh, he really is haunted". At least one of them try to actually communicate with the ghosts with advices from google. The ghosts may or may not decides to go with it for fun. Tokoyami is very supportive of Midoriya's ghosts friends.

would it be if like, Shouto decided he doesn’t really want to be a hero but still somehow pass the recommandation exam (even though he doesn’t really want to) and on the first day, when Aizawa is like “I’ll expell the worst one” Shouto is just like “I know the best way to spite my father” and purposely fail

at some point Aizawa straight up put him aside like “if you don’t try better than this I will expell you” and Shouto just say in his best deadpan “oh no. what a shame. i seem to have lost all control of my quirk. oh no. guess you’ll have to expell me now.”

follow a comedy of Shouto trying to get expelled/regularly ending up “expelled” in gen ed, while Aizawa wonders what the hell is wrong with that kid while Endeavour keep breathing down UA’s neck about Shouto
