Ashes left Behind

A small drabble based on Dazai leaving the PM

The flames erupted before him, engulfing the car that held so many memories. He knew that at some point, in the near future, he would stand here in this exact spot. Those same memories resurfacing, along with the complicated emotions that accompanied those exact memories. The arguments, the jokes, the late night conversations on the way home from jobs that left them without sleep for days on end, and even the confessions. 

Anger. 

That would be the initial emotion.  Chuuya always felt emotions so strongly and they were so beautiful but this time Dazai would not be there to witness it. 

Dazai never would admit it, but he sometimes envied Chuuya for the ability to feel so strongly. Emotions could easily be argued to be both a blessing and a curse, with each side only seeing the blessings that the opposite side was able to secure. It was a quality that once again made them opposites. Another thing that they both understood about the other but also allowed for another subject of tension between them. 

Chuuya would quickly piece everything together. It wouldn't take long and he wished he could tell Chuuya that he was sorry. He was so sorry for what he was about to put him through. 

He knew the Mafia wouldn't take his actions lightly, and there would be consequences as a result even if he himself wasn't there to receive the brunt of it. 

Dazai had wished so desperately that he could have given some sort of explanation to him. He had spent the last week contemplating Ango’s advice on leaving no evidence of the intent to defect. It seemed cruel to leave behind the only person he could trust. 

The only person he could love.

In the end, it was probably for the best. If Chuuya was angry enough, he wouldn't bother looking for him. It hurt to know that Chuuya would truly hate him after this. 

Anger.

Disbelief. 

Pain. 

Betrayal. 

Resentment

A loss of security. 

Dazai would no longer be there to save him. Corruption could easily engulf and steal Chuuya away from him, forever this time. He wouldn't be there to save him, to watch and be mesmerized by the incredible power that he holds within him before relieving him of such a burden. 

“Im so sorry” 

Dazai walked away. The flame roaring behind him, his back slowly getting colder the further he got. 

The warmth left him cold. 

Alone.

Well. I did it. I came out to my dad. It went really well. I know my parents have always told me I'd be loved no matter what, but finding the words and saying them out loud was very difficult. He wasn't even a little bit surprised, he just nodded. He liked my new name. Said it sounded nice and round. That it mixed well with my siblings names. We went and did the laundry together like we always do.

Y'all I just came out as a dude to my parents last night! I made a cake and two cupcakes because if I was making something that I could chicken out of then I would get scared and just not come out. The cupcakes had blue icing inside so I made them bite through to the blue and then brought out my blue marbled cake with blue icing and a really janky " it's a boy!" In blue food coloring. My hands were shaking sooo bad and I was trying really hard not to cry so I kept making jokes and nervous laughing. I kept saying to my mom that now I understand people on the great British baking show because they're always talking about how shaky they're hands are. I think I should make a slide show for my mom on what being a boy means for, as someone who still enjoys femme things. She kind of doesn't get it but that's ok bc I know she trying to understand and is super accepting. Anyway here's the picture!

I added sprinkles and stuff too but then forgot to take another picture. Anyway just wanted to share bc no I can be me! I've been going by he/him pronouns and ( I stole the name of my comfort character bc of course I did so) Nico for about 2 years now, which is .... A long time to say the least. My teachers know, my friends know and now 1 set of parents know! I'm still nervous but very excited too because I'm a man and they know I'm a man and wow I'm such a manly man and I'm having so many emotions but it's ok. But yeah, that's it. Just me being me :)

WIP Intro

Genres: Literary, Contemporary, with a dash of Romance

Themes: Grief. Like, a lot. But also found family.

Main Characters:

Bryce Dwight: Co-Host of The Adventure List, a Youtube show about day adventures around Chicago. Recent history graduate, stuck in an admin job at his old university, and loves thai food.

Candace 'Candy' Watabe: Videographer for The Adventure List and Bryce's girlfriend. Switched out of pre-med without telling her parents till graduation, but their ire is her dream job making movies. Well, okay. They're ads. But it's filming!

Andrew Casaregola: Co-Host of The Adventure List, social worker specializing in working with children in foster care. Deceased.

Summary:

Bryce Dwight is unprepared for the sudden death of his best friend, Andrew Casaregola. Thousands of fans of The Adventure List – the YouTube show they co-hosted -  want to know what Andrew's death means for the show, but the answer is the farthest thing from Bryce's mind.

When Candy, Bryce's girlfriend and the show's videographer, unearths a monologue of Andrew talking about how much the show meant to him, the two of them decide to record one last season. They'll complete Andrew's last list for him, bringing along his ashes so their friend can complete it too.

Andrew's Adventure List could be exactly what Bryce and Candy need to get over his tragic death, or a series of events that push them apart and drag Bryce into a black hole he's not sure he could get out of.
