Tbh I really love what he says in the last five minutes when he reflects on the podcast itself, and talks about how he feels on their friendship and the ability to apologize and feel gratitude once you say it. It’s touching, for me, that he is able to acknowledge that and he could to talk to her about it without judgement.

I'm proud of my TV parents, too! I love that too. It reminded me of a few years back when he said something about leaving all the crap behind and all that's left is the heart. I don't remember the exact quote. I just get the feeling from both of them that they do really have gratitude - to use DD's word - for what they went through and for the friendship that's come out of it.

No you don't understand how important it is to me that Caleb and Essek have this soft, deep, profound love for each other. These two people who were so broken and saw themselves as so damaged and irredeemable and utterly damned, having the chance to heal together and cultivate this sweet, gentle relationship with each other. The fact that they can now carve out moments of joy together, that they proved you can change and better yourself, with time and effort and love.

Matt taking the time to show that even in just a few little ways, to let Essek express his love so casually and with so much reverence and care is just AUGH. That's how you do redemption arcs. He understood the assignment. That's not only respecting the players for the time they put in to creating these characters and their pathways for growth, but also saying to your players (and viewers), "it's possible. Everyone deserves a second chance at happiness."

They redeemed themselves, together.

Ok, I know y'all probably tired of me and my Windbreaker manga caps but I'm really not gonna shut up about it so I'm apologizing in advance because there WILL be more!

I just want to take a minute to appreciate this character development on both ends... like, these two only recently had a revelation of how well they can work together as a team, and that was such a huge step for both of them.

And now we have them both rushing to Umemiya, both wanting to get there as quickly as they can... and there's this series of panels where neither of them are leaving the other behind - if one is getting jumped, the other leaps in and knocks a few guys out so they can both keep going together.

But I love how the lead-up to this set of panels is Sugishita sort of reflecting on what Umemiya told him. Sakura is growing as a person, his world is expanding, and Ume wants Sugishita's world to expand, too. Sugishita is thinking about all this and weighing what the best course of action would be in this case. And because of his world expanding and his growth as a person, he decides the best course of action is to put aside what he wants and rely on Sakura.
