there is something soooooooooooooo to me about bofur always being the one who finds Bilbo about to leave. he only asks about it the first time. when he finds Bilbo up on the battlements on his watch, he sees him off as well as he can. because he knows Bilbo shouldn't have to die trapped in that mountain with the rest of them. he knows Thorin is lost to the gold sickness, and he knows Bilbo knows it better than anyone. Bilbo promised to help them reclaim their home. and now they have that home, filled with dust and corpses and rotten gold, and before anything else, Bofur knows that Bilbo should be out in the world. he shouldn't be another corpse within erebor's halls. anyway
