Oh my god I'm playing Chrono Trigger for the first time (on an emulator on my phone) and I got to the trial (spoilers):

Context: I (Chrono) was at the castle fun fair running around and having fun when I bumped into Marle (who is secretly the princess). Long story short, through an accident that wasn't my fault, she was sucked into a portal back in time.

I went into the portal, saved Marle (Princess Nadia), and came back and escorted her back to the castle. When the King (Marle's dad) accused me of kidnapping her, I thought it was one of those silly "over-protective dad overreacting to a boy" scenes. He calls his guards to take me away and Marle jumps in saying it was a misunderstanding and I actually saved her. I'm watching the scene play out rolling me eyes like "of course I saved her. Her and the king will have their cliche argument and then Marle will manage to convince her dad I'm a good guy".

Then it escalates and the King puts me on trial accusing me of kidnapping the princess 😳

But I'm thinking "it's okay, it'll be a funny thing where he's accusing me of being a terrorist to the kingdom or whatever, and then Marle will barge in and tell the King to stop".

But then they bring out witnesses...

During the fun fair, I saw a girl with a lost cat, tried to help her, the game controls seemed not to let me, so I left it. GUESS WHO SHOWED UP TO TRIAL AND ACCUSED ME!?

The stupid little girl, and she told them I ignored her! IT WAS THE GAME CONTROLS PLS!!! I kept clicking "A" on her cat and it wouldn't do anything so I left!!!

Then I start thinking "shit, what else did I do at the fair?" They ask me if I stole anything and immediately I go "shit..."

Earlier the game let's you eat this food, so obviously I did...

Then I was like...shit they're not gonna let me go are they...is this really gonna escalate? But the verdict was not guilty, so instead I just got solitary confinement.

WHICH THEN ESCALATES!?!??!?

The king just takes it into his own hands and decides to EXECUTE ME!? I SAVED his daughter!!!!
