🚨 SPOILER ALERT
Is Bucky still a congressman? Sebastian Stan breaks down the Winter Soldier's return in Thunderbolts*
"Ultimately he realizes, 'No, I am who I am, and I do things how I do them, and I should just do that,'" Stan tells EW.
By Sydney Bucksbaum
Tumblr media
This article contains spoilers about Thunderbolts*.
The biggest shock in Captain America: Brave New World had nothing to do with Harrison Ford turning into a Red Hulk or Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) somehow surviving their fight despite not having any super soldier serum running through his veins. Nope, it was actually Sebastian Stan's quick, bizarre cameo revealing that Bucky Barnes... was running for Congress.
Yes, the mass-murdering, former Hydra operative was on the campaign trail, running for a seat in the House of Representatives. Why not! And as we learn at the beginning of Thunderbolts*, despite his decades of killing as the Winter Soldier, Bucky wins the race and becomes Brooklyn's congressman. Weirder things have happened in politics, but still...
However, as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) snidely points out later in the movie, Bucky only lasts half a term before donning his black leather jacket, hopping on a motorcycle, and letting his Winter Soldier freak flag fly again. And with Val publicly declaring that he, along with the rest of the Thunderbolts team, is now the New Avengers, is Buckty's political career officially over?
Tumblr media
Since it's not clear onscreen, Entertainment Weekly went straight to Stan to find out. "Yeah, it's almost like crossing it out, right?" the actor tells EW. "He's still been trying to find his way of how he can contribute in a way that he hasn't before. Ultimately, he realizes, 'No, I am who I am, and I do things how I do them, and I should just do that.'"
Stan laughs before adding, "But there's a lot of strange congressmen these days anyway, so..." As he trails off, his costar Wyatt Russell points out that Bucky wouldn't have to give up his congressional seat "technically, theoretically," to act as the Winter Soldier.
"The only issue I had was, 'Well, why is he growing out his hair if he's going to be a congressman?!'" Stan adds. "But I still wanted to grow it out, so I was like, 'I don't care.'"
Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier agrees with Stan's answer about Bucky's political future being dead on arrival. "I think that's pretty well done," the filmmaker tells EW. "I think he's found a new place that makes much more sense for him."
When Stan learned that Bucky was running for Congress in his brief Captain America: Brave New World appearance, he remembers feeling "curiosity and apprehension" about that shocking new direction for his character.
"But I think it is funny," he adds. "I think it was an interesting turn that I didn't see [coming], and I think probably a lot of people wouldn't have seen."
Getting back on Bucky's motorcycle in one of Thunderbolts* best action scenes felt more natural, especially since it mirrored his MCU debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier 11 years ago. "It was interesting because, after the TV show Falcon and the Winter Soldier, I think we got him further along in a good head space where I feel he is now just finally realizing how to incorporate some of those Winter Soldier characteristics and get a handle on them," Stan says. "And so it was fun bringing back some of those moments with the new Bucky that we've established and to find the humor and the cool, dangerous factor as well. That was nice."
The director confirms that the motorcycle sequence was an intentional callback to Bucky's original entrance.
Tumblr media
"Having Sebastian actually out there on that bike and doing this stuff and no green screen to it, just felt really special," Schreier says. "Bucky is just such a legend within the world, and then obviously within the world of people who care about these movies. The trick is for someone who's on their ninth film, how do you do something new, because he has been through those therapy sessions in Falcon and Winter Soldier. He is not in the same place that the rest of them are in."
Schreier loved showing Bucky struggle with his new, "frustrating" political career, because it clearly wasn't an "honest" path for him, only for him to reappear "in a more healed version" of who he'd been before as the Winter Soldier. "Back on that motorcycle doing Bucky things," he adds, "but with a new group of people that, even if it's the least expected thing, might be the best fit for him because what he's gone through, they're going through now, and he has something to offer them in that regard.
Let's hope Sam can appreciate that and stop fighting Bucky over the group's New Avengers team name.
Thunderbolts* is now playing in theaters.

Percy babies.. could solo the DC/MCU, given their godhood/true immortality, should they have the inclination. That's a terrifying thought.. those universes have been through ENOUGH,, 😫 Percy kids could choose to end them over breakfast. The evil ones (Beelcy) would be all in, and ones that Percy introduced to human media and might be Batman Stans would be WEEPING. This would be one of the biggest family dramas to date if it ever occurred. Pantheon civil war anyone?? Wholly initiated by the Percy kids, the vast majority of the gods just DO NOT GET the beef they have no interest or familiarity with human media, and the concept that it could be real is also baffling to them, the Bifrosts dimension hopping capabilities is obviously way beyond them. They think the next universe level threat, all the Percy kids infighting, is just brought on by some disagreement about a random hobby they happen to share ☠️
Forget Infinity War, this would be the biggest crossover in history simply because the kids are a multi-versal threat. They'd be getting mfs from DC, Marvel, fucking Mortal Kombat. Anywhere they could pull dude's from, they'd be calling in dude's. 😫
Batman needs to start stocking up on Divine Weapons, pronto. Bro needs a contingency plan seven hundred billion catrillion yesterday's. Should've started preparing that contingency plan back in Pangea if he wants to win this. (The only contingency plan he needs is to find a way to contact Percy. He needs to call her up like 'Percy get your freak kids in line' and shell try her best 🥹 may not succeed but she got a better shot than him ngl 💀)
(from 💫 anon)
omg i can't remember if i mentioned this before but percy is a fan of the mcu movies and her crushes are steve, nat, thor, and loki (which ror!loki would absolutely hate LMAOOO 😂😂😂😂)
so she would NEVER let her kids try and destroy the mcu HER CRUSHES ARE THEREJBFJHVV
and also, because now that she knows that they are REAL living ppl and are no longer fictional like she thought, she wouldn't want them dead either, so there's that 💖
as for dc i am unfortunately not that familiar with the movies or the comics, but percy is 10000% an aquaman fan. simply because he is a ✨water boy✨
(this girl just has blatant favoritism to any character that's water related lmao. pokemon? water types are the best. genshin? hydro characters are the best. superheroes? whichever superheroes that control water are automatically the best. some random nature documentary? the fishies were the best part of it [they showed up for 2 seconds])
the second she finds out aquaman is REAL in another universe, she would fangirl SOOOOO hard. omg she'd be so desperate to meet him. she'd ask for an autograph, stock up on merch and shit. SHE WOULD EVEN ASK IF HE COULD TEACH HER ANY SUPER COOL MOVES LIKE LMAO PERCY YOU ARE A GODDESS. any moves he has, you can already do 😭😭😭 there's literally nothing he can teach you 😭😭😭😭😭😭
poseidon and the posy kids would be soooooo pissed that she's an aquaman fangirl LOL. poseidon especially because what do you mean his precious daughter-wife is obsessed with this man?? HE'S NOT EVEN A GOD??? "daddy, you don't get it, he's a SUPERHERO 🙄"
AND YEAH PRAY FOR BATMAN 😭😭😭 he needs to find a way to get his hands on a divine weapon or two. or actually, having percy's number is probably a better idea. i like to think that after the ror verse got the bifrost to work again, they made new phone models that allowed multiuniversal service. percy would get one for batman to use so he could call her should any of her kids enter the verse and start shit 😭

Is It Really That Bad?
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
So. You want to watch a pre-MCU Marvel movie.
The time before the MCU was truly a Wild West, so you have all sorts of bizarre offerings to choose from. Of course there’s the Blade trilogy, which covers a whole range of quality from good to bad; you have the Ghost Rider duology, a pair of campy supernatural action films where Nicolas Cage turns into a flaming skeleton; you have three different Punisher films of varying quality that all get Frank Castle at least to some degree; and you have Howard the Duck. But maybe you’re looking for something truly weird, obscure, and strange…
Tumblr media
No, not that one.
Tumblr media
Not that one either, that’s too obscure.
Tumblr media
There we go!
In 1990 we got a film featuring the first Avenger, directed by cult filmmaker Albert Pyun and with a budget of only three million bucks. This tiny budget meant a lot of corners had to be cut, the script was constantly changing, the film had to be shot in Yugoslavia, and worst of all Stan Lee’s cameo had to be cut. And what’s the end result of this? A film that grossed barely over $10,000 and left many staff members at Marvel extremely disappointed. It would be a little over two decades before Steve Rogers was unfrozen for another ride, and this film was left to languish in obscurity. Hell, the only reason I know it exists is because it was the subject of an early video from the Nostalgia Critic.
But in the spirit of America, in the spirit of redeeming crappy old Marvel movies, and the spirit of cashing in on the release of the new Captain America film, I decided I’d finally check out this bizarre piece of Marvel’s history to find out if this really is as bad as critics say it is, or if this hero film is a lot more super than previously imagined.
THE GOOD
The biggest thing that stood out to me while watching this is that Captain America and Red Skull are genuinely perfectly done. Let’s talk about Skull first, since he’s a bit more mixed.
Tumblr media
His makeup is extremely weird, but we only see it in the first quarter of the film, and his backstory is unexpectedly tragic seeing as he’s a boy forcibly orphaned by Italian fascists (yes, he’s Italian rather than a German Nazi) and turned into a super soldier through torturous experiments in a backstory that is vaguely and ironically similar to Magneto in a lot of way. But those things aside, he very much feels like a megalomaniacal comic book villain, complete with dramatic speeches and a truly dastardly plan. You see, he—a fascist foreigner—wants to mind control the United States president and use him as a puppet to rule by proxy. Thankfully, nothing so ludicrous as a foreign fascist using the president as a puppet could happen anywhere but in the world of comic books and their movie adaptations!
Tumblr media
It really is Scott Paulin’s performance that carries the character. Yes, it sucks that Red Skull’s skull is not actually red outside of the World War II scenes that kick off the movie, but with how deliciously menacing he makes the guy it’s hard to be too upset. He may not have the look, but he has the wickedness down to a T.
But more impressive, and the thing that stuck out to me the most, is how good Matt Salinger is as Cap. I wasn’t expecting to be blown away, but boy did Matt knock his role out of the park despite the script and budget not always letting his Cap go as hard as he should. His simple refutation of Red Skull mocking everything he stands for—a simple rebuke of “I care,” delivered with conviction and sincerity—is so fucking good that it’s worth the price of admission alone. Salinger also nails the sweetness and corniness of Steve, such as genuinely complimenting his now elderly former flame by telling her she’s still beautiful or just in general having a cheesy fish-out-of-water charm of a man from the 40s transplanted into the 90s. I love Chris Evanas to bits, and his Cap is one of the best parts of the MCU… But I think Salinger might actually have done Cap best. If nothing else, it's very funny seeing a Salinger prevent presidential assassinations instead of being blamed for them (yes, Cap is The Catcher in the Rye author's son).
Tumblr media
Ronny Cox as President Kimball is probably the biggest surprise in the cast, though. You’d expect the kidnapped president of the United States to just be a helpless plot device or even a dick, but no! Kimball is badass and resourceful, escaping on his own and being utterly willing to die just to foil Red Skull’s plans. When he finally gets to meet up with Cap near the end, they also have a really fun little dynamic going on. It’s so easy to make a shitty, unlikable douchebag president so it was just refreshing seeing a noble, selfless, and likable one, even though such a thing makes it glaringly obvious this is a work of fiction.
Tumblr media
THE BAD
Look, this is a low-budget action movie and it shows. The action scenes are few and far between, and when they show up you can see where a lot of the corners were cut. Not to say there’s nothing good, but when half of the scenes feature Cap running away rather than kicking everyone’s ass, you know there’s a problem. There’s also a lot of really bad acting, particularly from the non-Red Skull villains. Like these guys just have awful line reads. And don’t get me started on the wings on Cap’s helmet. I am more charmed than mad at how silly it looks, but I’d be remiss not to mention it.
Tumblr media
Of course, the bigger problem is just some of the weird creative choices. Changing the Red Skull from a Nazi to a fascist Italian lab rat is the big one, as is only letting him keep his iconic look for a brief window. While the latter is presumably due to budgetary reasons, the former is strange because while his new backstory does garner him some sympathy it’s just… not really dealt with at all? Like it never comes up after the opening, at least not until Cap weaponizes his trauma to give him PTSD flashbacks in the climax. It’s not glaringly awful but the fact they do pretty much nothing with it and have Skull be a scheming, unashamedly evil supervillain makes this feel like a forced attempt to garner pity from the audience.
Then we have Cap. Yes, Salinger does a great job with him and makes him extremely charming and likable, especially in the corny ways Cap should be, but the writing of the film also kind of makes him a dick in a couple of moments. I am of course referring to the two times he fakes carsickness in order to jack a car. Yes, seriously. I think people do harp in this too much—it’s not a huge dealbreaker and both times he is at least a little justified as to why he does it—but it is so strange to see Cap do something so petty and ridiculous that I have to mention it. At least it’s pretty hilarious.
youtube
IS IT REALLY THAT BAD?
Tumblr media
So. You thought I was going to hate this movie.
For the first time I held a poll asking what viewers of my blog predicted what my opinion of the film would be, with the negative option winning by a very slim margin. Considering this movie’s reputation, it’s easy to see why, especially since as a big superhero movie fan and an ardent MCU defender I at least try and have some standards. But as a B-movie lover and a trashy cinema aficionado, it was pretty impossible not to be charmed by this film.
Yes, this film has tons of issues because of its tiny budget. No, this is not some pitch-perfect adapatation or an awesome action showcase. Yes, it is unbelievably corny. But I think in the vein of the unreleased Fantastic Four movie, this film has something a lot of other superhero films of the time don’t: Heart. This film has personality oozing from every pore, and for everything it does poorly or weirdly it makes up for with how well it understands core aspects of Steve Rogers and Red Skull. Salinger and Paulin really do carry this film, their acting paving over the cheap action and the janky acting of the villainous goons.
If you like cheesy 90s B-movie action films, you will love this. As the world’s only unironic Street Fighter fan, I am definitely deep into that category, and so I think this film is definitely worthwhile. I gave it a 7/10, but I think realistically it should be in maybe the high 5s or low 6s. This is a cheap, janky film, but it is full of heart and charm. It’s hard to love, but it’s damn near impossible to hate. At any rate, it's always interesting to go back and see what superhero films were like back in the day before they had to be cogs in an overarching franchise.

Okay so I had my biggest marvel phase a couple of years ago (my Loki obsession was insane 🙂↕️) BUT my dash has been full with Bucky stuff recently, and here I thought, who better to tell me all about the hype and convince me to start stanning him than you babe!! Soo… Any takes or fics to initiate me?👀 Any lore I should know besides the basic Steve bromance stuff? I’m all ears😌🫶🏻
Love ya💗
AGH, hello lovely! so nice to see your notif pop up in my feed as always, and thank you for coming to see a professional ;)❤️ buckle up buttercup, because this one might be a long one!
i’ll start with lore just in case you’re not too familiar: i’m not too sure on your knowledge of bucky as a whole (i imagine you have a brief idea if you’ve watched the mcu films?), but for most fics a general idea is fine. just in case you require an overview:
if we’re going with mcu bucky, then james buchanan “bucky” barnes started out as steve rogers’ bestie in the 40s. he fought in wwii (badass sniper), but fell off a train (classic). instead of dying, he got scooped up by hydra (moustache man’s nasty ass groupies), brainwashed, and turned into the winter soldier—an elite assassin with a metal arm (‘cause he lost his during his wobble off the train) and no memories of his former life. he spends decades like this, being popped out of cryo like a sad, murderous, ptsd-ridden crumpet whenever hydra need him. long story short, his boyf steve eventually helps him break free in a love-conquers-all-moment, but his very understandable and evident trauma doesn’t vanish overnight. his mcu arc (until marvel destroy it) is all about reclaiming his autonomy, his memory, and his morality while dealing with a world that still sees him as a weapon.
tldr: he’s a lil human disaster just trying his best 🥹
my proposal for why i think you should read for bucky:
*ahem*what to say to entice you into the world of bucky barnes fics?? with the amazing writers in the fandom, he’s like a walking trope buffet with the emotional baggage to back it up. you’ve got the angst of a bionic (anti/super)hero, the moral complexity of a charming lad who’s been tortured and brainwashed into killing people but still somehow retained his sassy side, and the enduring appeal of a man who’s been through literal hell, thawed, emotionally gutted, and still comes out the other side with a boatload of guilt—so whatever you’re looking for, there’s plenty of material to work with 😂 plus, the fandom has a tendency to treat him like our own patron saint of pain and fluff, so reading for him means you get the full range of his many layers: pre/post-war domesticity? post-war angst? avengers tower bullshit? soft moments with a cat he didn’t ask for but would most definitely die for? all a resounding TICK. basically a swiss army knife of a character that this fandom has managed to cultivate into a multifaceted, deeply rich person with so many different ways he can be written.
recommendations: BOY where do i start?? for people, @aquaticmercy is my holy grail for bucky across canon and au fics—such a diverse range of well-written, emotionally varied fics that you can’t go wrong. @pellucid-constellations is also a really strong and compelling writer for bucky, with some of my favourite series’ being from them! but i do have a page for my favourite marvel writers, as there’s so many to name—a lot of whom write excellent bucky fics.
my bucky library is my biggest character library, so i’d probably just refer you there for my (many) recommendations. my marvel favourites have a lot of my top bucky fics, so that would be another place i’d direct you to (i’m truly sentimentally attached to them). but my love for bucky fics started with 1940s!bucky, so any of the ones listed in that bit of my library are excellent starting points too!
hopefully this helps, and that i’ve convinced you to start ;) probs overkill but it should give you enough places to start the journey 🥰
aimee x
p.s. i PROMISE i’ll get round to answering your messages. my brain is a lil fried so please excuse the tardiness 🫶

Okay but what are the top 5 bullet points for hating MCU Spiderman? His arc? The actor? Accuracy?
You probably forgot you sent me this but I DIDN'T. This is a very serious question to be asking me and thus this is probably much longer than you initially bargained for <3
His friend group is ass. MCU MJ and Ned exist to be his yes men, they always help him, they always get along, it sucks and it's boring. People always dog on the Raimi movies because the Peter-MJ-Harry triangle is toxic but honestly that's nothing compared to the drama the original Peter-Gwen-MJ-Harry-Flash had going on. That shit would kill an MCU stan they were SO messy... and that was what made it fun and juicy. Peter's complex interpersonal relationships are so so crucial to Spider-Man. One of the reasons he became so popular is because the Peter Parker part of his story was just as interesting as the Spider-Man part, people loved his personal problems! That's why his supporting cast are just as well known by even casual fans.
Stole too many plot points and personality traits from Miles Morales. For example, see point no. 1, MCU Ned Leeds is literally just Ganke (Miles' best friend) that they slapped a Ned Leeds nametag onto.
Tony Stark and MCU Peter's desperation to be an Avenger. I actually cannot stand the desperation it's pathetic and unbecoming. Comic Peter Parker would tell MCU Tony Stark to go fuck himself on the regular if he pulled the stuff he does in the movies. Spider-Man is also not even close to as fun when he has access to all the toys and funds he could want. Also the first time he meets the Avengers in the comics they literally stalk him trying to get him to join and he keeps going "LEAVE ME ALONE" so I think it's funny MCU Peter is so desperate to be one
The personality could not be worse. One of my favorite things about Peter is that he's a reluctant hero. He wants to do the right thing, use his powers for good, but it always comes at a cost to his personal life. The constant push and pull and deliberate decision to be a good person when he doesn't want to... I love that about him. There are always hard choices in a good Spider-Man story. I once saw a movie critic that said "MCU finally gets Spider-Man right. He's a happy go lucky guy that loves being a superhero." Literally every word of that sentence is incorrect. People think that because comics are so vast, with different authors and different ways they're written that you can do whatever you want in the movie and it's fine... NO. There can be some variance, sure, but Peter has always had a distinct personality. Sure sure sure you can tweak things here and there, I'm not saying Peter always has to be portrayed as a selfish asshole who's always broke and never happy (because obviously there are times in the comics when he isn't those things) but you can't change EVERYTHING at once. Making him a guy that loves being a superhero and has zero personal life problems (aside from ??? wanting to vacation in europe and get with the girl he likes)... literally destroys everything interesting about the character.
Less about him and more about the conversation around him, my biggest pet peeve used to be people that would go "well this is the third reboot, of COURSE he's different." well NO because the MCU chose to adapt Peter Parker and Peter Parker has a specific personality and storyline. "Of course they changed the storyline" first of all they had a million options and could've just inserted an adult Peter into the MCU if they didn't want to do his origin story, but his origin story is important... I honestly think the decision to skip over it is what caused the terrible writing because without that origin you've removed all his motivations and drive. You can't just say hey we'll use Peter Parker but in order to differentiate ourselves we'll make him unrecognizable... just use a different character at that point... LIKE MILES which is what SO many people said before Homecoming came out.

Sorry Destiny, but I feel that you are being dismissive to those Tom fans. Any actor would like to work with Nolan, but any fan of an actor wants their fav to be sought for their talent, not their persona or who they are associated with.
The issue is that Tom and Z fans are so overlapped with Z with the majority that lost dislike Tom a lot. You have made a conscious choice to opt out of Twitter, but most of us haven't, and the worst tweets we see of Tom are from hers stans at times, undermining him. Like, you don't have to like your favs bf but the respect is not there.
You are right that Tom and Z are not the first couple to work with each other but is it a crime to want to have a project with Tom where he works with a new director and has a female costars that is picked whose fanbase that is neutral towards Tom? The biggest issue I remember that was brought to your blog was that Tom doesn’t have any real fans and that they were either from Spiderman or tomdayas, which is fine, but that's the same as other male actors.
Glen Powell has hit man, ABY, and Twisters working with upcoming actresses of the next gen. Yes, he would probably will work with Sydney again, but it's a range of actresses that keeps it exciting for fans.
Tom doesn't have that range of female costars albeit he works with unknowns but even the possibility of him working with Sydney causes some fans to get mad like that would not be good for him careerwise, I don't like her but her fanbases is hig for a reason.
These are just my thoughts.
but any fan of an actor wants their fav to be sought for their talent, not their persona or who they are associated with.
Tom IS sought after for his talent Anon. Did you miss the part where Nolan said that he had been wanting to work with Tom for YEARS?? 🥴
You have made a conscious choice to opt out of Twitter, but most of us haven't,
And who's fault is that? 🤔
and the worst tweets we see of Tom are from hers stans at times, undermining him
Yes, SOME of Z's stans can be very cruel about Tom online, but you're forgetting that there are also a LOT of Z stans who actually LIKE Tom, or have come to like him over the years.
You also forget that maybe some fans seeing Tom and Z in a non-spidey project together might help change the view of some people online. You're already looking at this as a negative thing, but it might actually end up being a very GOOD thing, because Nolan films will bring in a totally different audience than just the Marvel/MCU movie-going crowd. Just saying.... 👀 😁
You are right that Tom and Z are not the first couple to work with each other but is it a crime to want to have a project with Tom where he works with a new director and has a female costars that is picked whose fanbase that is neutral towards Tom?
Tom IS working with a new director, and he IS going to be working with new female costars. Last I checked, Tom hasn't worked with Anne Hathaway before. And we still don't know who else they may add to this film. We may get some additional cast members added to this film. Just wait and see.
Also, if you think that most fanbases are neutral towards Tom, you may be mistaken. Tom is a HUGE star. Most people know who he is. You either like him, are lukewarm about him, or you don't like him. It's plain and simple. 🤷🏾‍♀️
And again, most of Z's fanbase does not hate Tom. If you get off Twitter you will see that a lot of Z's stans like Tom and love that Z is happy. 😊
Tom doesn't have that range of female costars
And if he doesn't, then who's fault is that?? Maybe, Tom's main focus isn't what trendy new female costar he can work with, but what role really calls to him and seems interesting to HIM.
Besides, I'm sure Tom is the one who was cast first in MOST of his more current lead roles. Who they cast as female actresses came AFTER Tom was cast. So, if you have a problem with that, go blame the casting directors. But 9 times out of 10, Tom is the one who the role is centered on for most of his more recent lead roles, so most of the time he's not even aware of who they will cast as a woman in his films until MUCH later. 🙄
Look...Idk what "range" of female actresses you're wanting Tom to have, but he's worked with quite a few great female costars outside of Zendaya....
Naomi Watts, Saoirse Ronan, Ciara Bravo, Sofia Ali, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tati Gabrielle, Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, Emmy Rossum, Amanda Seyfried, Marisa Tomei, Daisy Ridley, etc.
What is the problem? 😵‍💫
I swear, some fans just love to complain, and then don't even make any sense when trying to explain the reason for being upset.
Lastly, I don't see what Glen or Sydney have to do with this discussion at ALL.

Thunderbolts* (2025)
Tumblr media
I’ve been feeling the MCU slump. Even with my comic book reading giving me a pre-disposition towards the characters, several films in a row just didn’t do it for me and my enthusiasm was waning. I heard good things about some of the shows but just haven’t been able to make time for them. I started missing more and more of the releases, which made me sad. There was a time when I wouldn’t just see superhero movies once in the theater, I’d go see them multiple times and I missed that time. I heard Thunderbolts* was the strongest entry in a while and made the effort to go see it. I’m glad I did. That fire I thought had died out? It’s back!
CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) faces impeachment as the O.X.E. Group’s numerous superhuman development projects have come to light. To destroy the incriminating evidence against her and get rid of anyone who might testify in front of Congress, she has been calling upon multiple mercenary agents. When Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell) and Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) stumble upon one of O.X.E.’s test subjects, Bob (Lewis Pullman), they realize de Fontaine wants to dispose of them as well and reluctantly decide to band together.
Thunderbolts* is comparable to James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Even with Bob “assisting” and Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour) coming in to help the team, we’re talking about mismatched turncoats who previously didn’t care who they took down as long as they got paid. That’s no one’s definition of “heroic”. While some have superhuman abilities, everyone on this team essentially (aside from Ghost and Bob) boils down to discount versions of Captain America, or Black Widow. They’re disposable to de Fontaine and to an extent, to the MCU as well; Red Guardian is probably the fan-favorite and his movie was released straight to Disney+ because of the pandemic. Their "C-tier" status makes you wonder if their adventure might be too much to handle for some.
The biggest difference between this film and its DC “counterpart” is the direction. For better or worse, James Gunn’s fingerprints are all over The Suicide Squad and you see his influence in the humour and violence. Director Jake Schreier might not have a distinct style but I may like his movie a bit better. It’s amazing, for instance, that Thunderbolts* is not rated R, but never feels like it's pulling its punches. The action is satisfying, particularly when Bucky Barnes/The Winter Solider (Sebastian Stan) comes into play. I’d forgotten how exciting combat with him could be. In no time, you’re deeply endeared towards the characters despite - and because of – their flaws. Whether the characters could ever be friends is debatable, but they feel like a solid team just waiting to happen.
There are a lot of characters in Thunderbolts* and naturally, some get more screen time and development than others. Luckily, de Fontaine gets a lot of attention. I’d pick her as the most exciting villain we’ve had in the MCU in a long time because she’s dangerous for multiple reasons and has a frighteningly real viewpoint on what's "right" and "wrong". As for the “heroes”, Red Guardian, Bob and Yelena are the ones who get the most fleshing out. Black Widow's younger sister is the one most deserving of the title “main character”, while the other two are responsible for the most laughs. Their relationship plays a big part in the finale. Even if you know some of the movie’s secrets because you’re familiar with the source material, that conclusion is intense. I have to applaud the screenplay by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo for the way it manages to develop the characters, build them as a team and introduce high stakes simultaneously during that final act.
Thunderbolts* ended its theatrical run with a disappointing number of tickets sold, which means a lot of people will kick themselves for not seeing it on the big screen once they catch it on Disney+. It’s hugely crowd-pleasing while also offering a good mix of dark scenes, action and humor. The villain is a standout, the main cast leave you eager to see more and for me, it sparks a strong desire to go back and "do the homework" to get the full experience. I didn’t see Captain America: Brave New World, Black Widow or Falcon & the Winter Soldier but now, I want to. I doubt they’ll be as good as this film, but it’s so much fun to be excited to see the next Marvel project. I'm eager to visit my "old friends" again. I'm looking forward to scrutinizing the post-credit scenes to get a glimpse of what's coming next. I was excited for Thunderbolts* but didn't expect to love it as much as I did. (Theatrical version on the big screen, June 9, 2025)

If Tony Stark was born and raised in Metropolis by Howard and Maria Stark (before they died), how different would things get when he came back from that city after his escape from Wong Chu and decided to become a hero? What happens if that turn of events took place before Superman arrived in Metropolis? And what could transpire if both heroes met each other in their early heroic days? Note: This alternate scenario will happen in another DC/Marvel universe.
Ok so personally i’m against dc/marvel crossovers for the simple reason of powerscaling. Throwing quicksilver into a situation where all the other speedsters have the speedforce. Gamora or Captain Marvel into a situation where there are multiple lantern corps, Hulk into a situation where Superman exists so there’s always someone who can stop him if he gets too angry around which kinda negates a big chunk of his double-edged threat factor, the x-men into a situation where lex luthor’s a thing and so on. It just doesn’t work for me, at all. Sorry to be a huge pedant but my brain just keeps pointing out ok if Wolverine’s here how come he’s never met vandal savage and also Dr. Strange vs Constantine anyone? Wait that’d actually be fun, nevermind.
So with that said. I think in a situation where Iron Man takes the stage in Metropolis before Clark gets there that means Lex Luthor will have someone who can actually hack his shit which is a big problem, and Clark will come to metropolis knowing there’s a hero there which means... is he intentionally planning to become local hero and upstage him? No is that what’s going to happen the moment Tony gets in over his head against a Superman rogue and Clark feels morally obligated to help? Yeah.
I think Lois would probably date Tony instead of Pepper post-wong chu if only because Lois is a lot better at understanding where the military-industrial complex is coming from than Christine Everhart ever could be and also has the added benefit of not immediately trusting the shady spy organisation Shield for saving her life once, and has natural charisma that makes her such a great writer and interviewer. Also wouldn’t hold him to making her ceo something he only did for Pepper when he thought he would literally die and that reasonably she should’ve handed back once she realised it was a deathbed decision and he was now going to live. Sorry to any pepper stans but the mcu movies had some unsettling and probably unintentional subtext that I didn’t like.
I think Lois and Tony would sass each other and point out their respective partner’s hypocrisies in ways that would help each of them grow. Which wouldn’t help things once she and Clark start dating after the inevitable messy break up (possibly brought on by Tony’s alcoholic spiral possibly just two hotheads inevitably starting a metaphorical fire they can’t put out without getting burned) because I cannot emphasis this enough, Tony is way too smart to fall for the glasses trick. Like Lex is so smart he can’t imagine his nemesis would rely on something so stupid but Tony understands people and knows how stupid he a smart person can act so yeah Clark’s identity is cooked the moment Superman goes out or he meets Clark which ever comes second.
I don’t think Tony would lash out at Clark for it so much as at himself and internalise the hatred/self-esteem issues the whole situation compounds. Which would be really sad. Maybe he’s friends with Bruce and Bruce decides to hate Clark FOR him? One of those situations where your friend can’t hate their exes new guy because morality/ex has the right to move on ect. but you can because fuck that guy my friend’s hurting.
I think Metropolis would lowkey benefit from a genius in charge of a city with one of the highest rates for destructive superhero battle damage to buildings and the like and it would probably take a lot of Luthor’s leverage as the biggest investor from him. Especially as Bruce has his own crime utopia to try and fund into progress so he can’t commit overmuch to anywhere else even when he wants to help.

Secret Invasion Ep. 4 Spoilers
As a Rhodey stan... i have a couple words and no words at the same time.
I think a lot of people online and in online MCU communities were mystified by the idea of someone [and that someone being Rhodey] being a Skrull that they failed to consider the implications of such a decision? and that generalization is itself one i'm not too confident in making but i find it to be the case nonetheless.
still, with so many communities talking about it... the actual reveal just felt so lackluster. Rhodey is a character, however you may see him, that has already shown so much heart, love, care, soul, realness, and groundedness that in revealing that he's a Skrull just doesn't... do the phase 1-3 versions of him justice at all.
And while I could go on a million rants about why I hate this decision (most of which involving my relationship with the phase 1-3 version of him that is being disregarded for the sake of moving phase 5 forward...), the main thing i wanted to rant about right here is the when.
When did Rhodey become a skrull?
I fear that neither of the two theories I have in mind means anything good for the Rhodey fans that value his relationship with Tony.
He's been a Skrull since Iron Man 3 (or somewhere around that time give or take a few years). (This one i'm not sure they would actually follow through with just because as much as the MCU says they're forward-thinking, some of their decisions lead me to believe the contrary.) This is rooted in the use of extremis, a project that was experiencing issues in the film and Tony figured out how to stabilize for the sake of saving Pepper Potts's life. While SHIELD would have had this technological information as a result, there is a strong possibility that the events of Iron Man 2 may have convinced some people that Rhodey would be willing to even give up that information which was personal to Tony for a greater gain (or even something not in his control if he were coerced into such an action).
He, as a very popular theory suggests (one that i also take issue with), became a Skrull following the events of Captain America: Civil War. In this film, he was critically injured during the battle in the Leipzig-Halle Airport where Vision shot a blast through the War Machine suit, leaving Rhodey paralyzed from the waist down. My personal issue with this theory is that I've always had an issue with the way Rhodey's tone toward the Sokovia Accords shifted between CA:CW and Avengers: Infinity War (where initially expressed full support for them in CA:CW but was then extremely lax [admittedly the circumstances were what they were] during IW). However, logistically speaking, when could there have been a better time for a Skrull to take on his likeness? After Thanos' snap? After Tony's snap? Before Falcon and the Winter Soldier? It seems like the most seamless transition had to have occurred during the time that Rhodey was seriously injured in CA:CW.
All of this is merely speculation. However, one of the biggest plotholes of the entire Secret Invasion series so far has been the lack of clarity on when these prominent figures became Skrulls. Hopefully, I'm wrong with all of this. Still, this won't change the impact of the one character from the earlier phases of the MCU that actually recalls the events of IM1,2,3, A1,2 CACW, etc. being a Skrull. It won't take back the pain that comes with the knowledge that to some degree or another, the face of a close friend of Tony Stark was involved in such heinous acts (almost directly paralleling the relationship between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes in the mcu as well) and I fear the implications for the upcoming Armor Wars film won't be kind for the version of Rhodey that will awaken in a world where everything has changed.

ik u never intended for this but in ur little peters jumping universes plot idea do u have any idea abt how does pete’s universe’s bucky react to there being ghost tours looking for him around nyc? if he goes back to nyc do people assume he’s a ghost? does he question how this rumor got started? what are the logistics of having a ghost tour to spot someone who’s literally a live human being with a job
it was actually intended in the sense that this exact matter was a plot point that I fully planned for in the fic but just didn’t mention in the post because i didn’t mention most of the plot points. It’s literally such a big fic. Y’all got maybe like 10% of it in extreme summary.
Context of things established earlier in the fic to make sense of how Pete’s Bucky is brought in:
Peter B’s Bucky and Steve are actually pretty established in Pete’s universe. They have no plans of leaving. Steve’s folks came over from Ireland on the boat and never fucking left and he doesn’t see why he can’t do the same with universes. They’re actually happier than ever here. They can get peace and heal and live the life they always wanted to before the war.
Peter B’s Steve is MCU!Sam Wilson’s biggest fan. He has a Twitter Stan account where he fights people on the internet over how amazing Sam is. He is the president of the Sam Wilson Captain America Fan Club. He just thinks he’s absolutely swell. He’s convinced Sam is the One True Captain America and is seriously considering finding the Sam from his home universe to pass the Captain America mantle onto him. As a note, Sam from Peter B’s universe is not involved in superhero shenanigans and is working at the VA having had no contact with the avengers ever. Steve’s genuinely planning what may as well be the plot of a wattpad self insert fanfic wherein living legend Captain America who went missing six months ago appears on your doorstep to tell you he thinks your amazing and pure of heart and needs you to bear his mantle. This is a terrible idea but it’s also a hilarious one so no one has told Steve to stop planning.
As mentioned in the last post, both just sort of got dumped in Matt’s apartment (he had the biggest apartment and also Matt was such a big idiot that it cut clean through Bucky’s hydra programming and violently activated his much deeper engrained The Fuck Did Steve Do Now instincts and he was more himself than ever when he was bitching Matt out for being a fucking moron. He can’t make him leave it’s basically therapy for him to stay with Matt he’s getting his memories back) and then refused to leave. Matt hates this deeply. Bucky won’t stop nagging him about his sleep schedule and Steve somehow keeps outdoing him in insanity. How the fuck do you outdo a blind vigilante who’s also an attorney who fights crime in an under armor tshirt. He appears to visibly hate them.
The thing is that Matt’s really in hell because Steve and Bucky live these horribly structured military lifestyles that are still somehow almost quaint and he’s trying to pull off sewer rat chic over here. He keeps finding them in his kitchen at 6am cooking big breakfasts so they can all get a good start to the day. Let him shuffle out the door with a granola bar and a broken rib like god intended.
Unfortunately he’s also the biggest slut in comics and he did sleep with both of them. This was a bad idea, like most of his ideas are. He’s horribly allergic to commitment (and in love with foggy) and did not think far enough ahead to realize that he can’t ghost two supersoldiers and strategic masterminds who are squatting in his apartment. Bucky hired himself to be Nelson, Murdock, & page’s secretary. He cannot fucking get rid of them and they keep asking him what they are.
So the thing is that, consistent with MCU’s take on the multiverse, there are some people who are identical to the other multiversal counterparts and some who look different. All of the Peters look different. Mr. Murdock is a slightly older version of Matt but is identical enough to pass as a twin. Peter P’s Matt (I forgot to mention he goes by “Red” here) looks similar but has red hair like in the comics and looks like the younger, angrier younger brother of the other Matts.
Peter B’s Steve is identical to Pete’s Steve except he dresses like a godless hipster. Peter B’s Bucky is also identical to Pete’s Bucky except he lost the other arm. They have made no efforts to disguise themselves.
Honestly the only reason why they have gotten away with this so far is because Steve Rogers is supposed to be dead and not a barista named Frodo and whenever anyone asks Bucky if he’s Bucky Barnes he takes off his glove and wiggles his flesh arm and says no, Bucky Barnes is missing an arm, they just look similar and no one ever asks to check the other arm. It keeps working when it shouldn’t.
Pete is referred to them both exclusively as Queens and they both adore him endlessly for reasons that have to do with how Bucky got free of hydra programming that would take way too long to summarize here. They just love that little guy and will punt someone over his continued safety.
Okay now for MCU!Bucky and Sam coming in:
The thing is the internet is full of really fucking stupid rumors and they don’t pay attention to most of them. Like, they’re busy people. They’re doing world saving stuff. Gossip rags and internet blogs will say anything. Last week some random site claimed that Sam was pregnant with Steve roger’s baby, which made zero sense. They briefly see it when Pete first starts perpetuating the rumor, think it’s just some random internet troll thing, and immediately forget it in favor of more important things.
Then the rumor grows and there’s ghost tours and someone asks them about it on the Tonight Show. Some people legitimately thought bucky was dead and he keeps having to correct them. This may be more serious than they thought.
The thing is that while "these are the ghosts of Captain America and Bucky Barnes, a man who is currently alive, haunting the streets of brooklyn" is obviously not what's going on, something is. there's absolutely two vigilantes operating in the area who are enhanced--and seem to be enhanced in a lot of the ways steve and bucky were/are.
The thing is that "this is an alternate universe version of myself who immigrated here and now works as a secretary in a law office by day and fights crime at night" is just not something that comes to mind when people wonder what's going on. It's just not. They're more concerned with impersonators/copycats. Even if it's all just a coincidence, there's two very enhanced vigilantes who popped up in Brooklyn who may end up being assets (or enemies) one day. They decide to go to the area and ask around.
The thing is that Peter B's Steve and Bucky are not subtle men, okay. They made zero efforts to disguise themselves. Bucky did not change his name. Steve changed his name to fucking Frodo, which is worse, because a good way to attract close attention of strangers is to tell them your name is fucking frodo. They're both highly active in community organizing also and outreach for veterans and do a lot of grassroots initiatives, so they're pretty well known in both hell's kitchen and brooklyn. So MCU!Bucky rolls up and immediately gets recognized, not as Bucky Barnes, the Winter Solider, but as Bucky Barnes, that nice man who looks hauntingly like The Winter Soldier Bucky Barnes and coincidentally has the exact same name but is not missing the arm.
Look okay its new york aliens fall from the fucking sky every tuesday now people have more important shit to handle than whether that nice dude who is highly active in a youth outreach program and who you can ask to walk you home at night is secretly a clone of bucky barnes who is dating a poorly disguised clone of steve rogers or whatever. it ain't their business. he's a nice guy they're leaving him be.
anyway it's stupidly fucking easy to find Bucky Barnes Who Has An Arm hanging out at the coffee shop of his boyfriend, Frodo the Barista, who only happens to look like a hipster Steve Rogers.
(Sam: excuse me, are you Bucky Barnes, from the Avengers?
Peter B's!Bucky, not even looking up from his phone: *takes off his glove with his teeth and waggles his fingers* nah man Bucky Barnes is missing his left arm. i just look like him.
Sam, not missing a beat: what about your right arm
Peter B's!Bucky, who never had this happen before: Ohno.exe
Frodo The Barista, turning around for the first time: I have an oat milk latte for Jessica
MCU!Bucky: :o :o :o)
Anyway they have to wait for the end of Steve's shift to answer any of their questions like "who are you people" and "what the hell do you think you're doing" and "why is Steve named fucking Frodo." it's a lot of bucky nervously sweating in his chair while MCU Sam and Bucky stare daggers at him.
They tell them everything, immediately, in full detail. Steve thinks Sam is the One True Captain America and is his biggest fucking fan. Sam cries a little.
Also Queens told them that this universe's Sam and Bucky were actually good dudes and weren't like, evil versions of Sam and Bucky. So they figure it's fine.
Peter B's Steve and Bucky's stance on the whole matter is that it's a nonissue. They're just planning on living their lives as they are. They don't see why anything needs to change. They're not going to get involved in this world's large scale conflicts--they're street level heroes in this world and not interested in being more, and also once the government gets involved that means that their entire deal with the Spider-Men and the Daredevils goes to shit. They trust Sam and Bucky to keep quiet on it. if MCU!Bucky and Sam want to pop by every now and then and hang out, they wouldn't mind. Steve's sort of a huge fan.
MCU!Sam and Bucky have been blue screening through the last fifteen minutes of this explanation. What the fuck is going on.
Peter B's Steve and Bucky basically invite them back to have dinner/meet Matt, who they understand to be a normal lawyer who is in a sort of polycule with multiverse hopping Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes? What the fuck is going on.
Of course they bring them back to an apartment and it's immediately apparent that it's Matt Murdock, that one blind attorney who everyone thought was daredevil for a bit until his twin brother Mike, who no one knew existed, showed up in his court hearing in a full red formal suit, flirted with multiple people including the judge, fought the court security team, and disappeared only to remain at large even today. what the fuck is going on.
(Steve: babe we're back we brought the guests we mentioned
matt, from the other room: THANK GOD TAKE THEM AND LEAVE
Bucky, who has long chalked this up to Matt's weird sense of humor and prickly personality, after all, why would he keep sleeping with them if he actually was trying to get rid of them: what do you think of pasta for dinner
matt: WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT FINDING SOMEWHERE ELSE TO LIVE
Sam: what the fuck is going on.)
Honestly it's one of those things where they end up decide to let this go on without interference. They come by sometimes to visit, but not often. It hurts, kind of? Steve and Bucky are happy and together here in a way they never got to be in this universe. Steve's still there, and still alive, and he's honestly happier than Sam or Bucky ever saw their version of Steve? Sam only knew him after the ice, after he lost everything and got caught up in endless conflicts and political machinations and just basically became a soldier who never got to come home from the war. Bucky knew Steve in better times, but it was like. still the Great Depression and Steve was still a queer disabled person in a world that really fucking hated queer people and disabled people. It's always nice when they come to visit but they always kind of leave with a feeling of loss? It constantly reminds them of what they never got with their steve. They need time for the wound to heal before they can spend more time with them.
at one point Steve does in fact go through with his plan to track down his universe's Sam Wilson and bestow upon him The Mantle of Captain America and make him the main character of a Y/N fic and there's a very confused Sam Wilson running around with them as a sort of six months Captain America practical training course who gets coffee with MCU!Sam Wilson

yeah imma need you to show receipts for the transphobia and homophobia accusation bc what are you talking about?????
also, nobody’s ignoring the one (1) black woman on the thunderbolts. arguing that you think there being one black person on the team absolves the MCU of a more broad issue of sidelining Black characters, then you’re already being disingenuous.
also, no sam stan has ever defended the inclusion of idf lady in bnw. everyone obviously despises the decision. however, recognizing that that is in no way the only (or even biggest) factor to bnw getting shit on is just stating a fact.
I'm begging for reading comprehension.
I'm very clearly calling out people who spew hate and are sitting on their high horse because they like Sam.
I'm very clearly singling out the bigots.
It was in response to someone calling everyone and everything racist while being homophobic and transphobic.
I am very clearly saying that there are plenty of reasons to be upset.
Who are you fighting with?
I've seen a bunch a people referring to the Thunderbolts as "the white" team .
Black women are the first to be ignored or hated in fandom spaces.
Can you point me to where I said anything against Sam fans and defenders who aren't bigoted?
It's a you problem if you thought I was talking about you.
Btw very brave of you to send it in anonymously so am I to assume you're a bigot?

The Mosley Review: Captain America: Brave New World
Tumblr media
There is a hard lesson that is learned when making a film. You have to be absolutely certain of the story you're crafting for an audience to enjoy while having just enough wiggle room to adjust and shift the story to if something doesn't work out on screen. If it doesn't serve the narrative, cut it, but make sure you have a movie to put together without revealing all the scars left over. This isn't necessarily new territory for the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Perhaps one of the biggest examples of this flaw is the first Captain Marvel. Somewhere beyond the flashy distraction of the effects, there was a unique and powerful story that clumsy limps along and isn't fully brought into the light. That's what I felt was the biggest problem with this film. The action in the film ranges from rough to spectacular and the story had the some of the best parts of Manchurian Candidate meets Crimson Tide. Its when it tries to build up some new characters and re-introduce new ones that I felt the film really losing its focus along the way and it turned into an unfocused collection of the best elements of its predecessor Captain America: Winter Soldier. In fact, it was pretty much a retread of many themes from that film with elements that would effect Bruce Banner instead of Sam Wilson.
Tumblr media
Anthony Mackie has always been a strong actor and I enjoyed finally seeing him fully as Sam Wilson accepting the full responsibility of being Captain America. I liked that he is a bit meaner, more brutal and you feel more connected to him as you see the physical toll it takes. He is constantly proving himself to not only himself, but to his colleagues and of course the nation. There is doubt that he has to overcome and that shows the strength of his leadership skills. Danny Ramirez returns as Joaquin Torres and as his new trainee as he aspires to be the new Falcon. Their chemistry was good in the film and I felt their friendship built a bit more organically this time around. The great Carl Lumbly returns as Isaiah Bradley and I loved him the most in this film. Not only does he get more of lighter touch to his character, but he gets to show off his physicality. He has the most emotionally charged story in the film and it harkens to what I said before about the Manchurian Candidate aspect we’ve seen before with Bucky Barnes. Giancarlo Esposito is always fun to watch and as Sidewinder, he was all the villainy needed to push the first quarter of the film forward. I liked that he is being built up as the new foil for Sam and hopefully it is the beginning of a possible Serpent Society arc. Shira Haas was cool as the steadfast and small but mighty Ruth Bat-Seraph. I dug her abilities as a protector and I liked that she was part of the investigation, but ultimately her character was wasted and was unnecessary for the most part. She tends to figure things out way after Sam does. Harrison Ford was fun as he takes over for the late and great William Hurt as President Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. I liked that he was very remorseful of his past and at times more human than ever instead of the militaristic tyrant of the character. He was constantly on edge understandably and I dug his many battles of ideals with Sam. When he eventually becomes Red Hulk, the fight itself was great, but I really loved the looming build of dread towards his transformation. The great Tim Blake Nelson finally returns to the MCU as Samuel Sterns / Leader and I loved his complete villain turn. He knows how to milk the sometimes hammy dialogue given to him. We get to see him after the events of the The Incredible Hulk and he looks pretty close to his comic accurate counter part. I liked that he was the puppet master of events in the story, but he turned into a Saturday morning cartoon villain toward the end.

The score by Laura Karpman was bombastic, sometimes overbearing and punctuated the action sequences well. It felt more like a standard Marvel score with no particular theme or melodies and was unfortunately forgettable. Like I said before, I felt the many cuts to the much more fleshed out story that was trying to be told. The film was heavy with exposition as it would explain away all the missing gaps in logic and the many obvious ADR lines that were blatant. I miss the days when each film in the MCU had a story theme. Winter Soldier was a political spy film, Ant-Man was a heist film and Guardians of the Galaxy were a 80's space soap opera. This film tried to stay in that same political / ecological thriller pocket so hard, but it struggled to land with the almost randomness of the frankensteined together plot. It wasn't the worst the MCU has had to offer lately, but its not the best this film it deservedly should've been. There is an end credit scene that was nothing special in my opinion as it states the insanely obvious. Let me know what you thought of the film or my review in the comments below. Thanks for reading!

Sorry in advance, I am a Tony stan. But like, mostly comic Iron Man? Honestly MCU is a bit of a meh point for me, but I did have a period of time where I sought out pretty much every Team Iron Man fic out there (It was copium, I know), and most of it is Team Cap bashing (Again, I prefer comics to the MCU. I pretty much stopped being interested after Age of Ultron, and I haven’t watched anything from after Endgame). I can’t speak for all my fellow Tony stans out there, but for me, it was being unsatisfied with Civil War. It doesn’t go into the Accords at all beyond the basic “Don’t invade foreign nations with your team that basically amounts to a private militia funded by a former war profiteer.” Like, I only recently learned about the registration, tracking, and waiving their rights to a trial, because the movie never mentioned the Accords after the initial introduction. For all the movie does talk about it, it genuinely sounds like a necessary legislation. I just think the Cap hate would be nearly so ridiculous if the movie had actually gone into the inhumane aspects of the thing, which it didn’t because it was too busy with the Bucky plot. They could’ve never mentioned the accords and the movie still would’ve made sense, and Team Cap would be a lot better off for it in the fandom.
Honestly, though, one of the biggest reasons I’ve seen people hating on Cap is because of the whole “Winter Soldier killed Howard and Maria Stark and Steve said nothing about it.” Which, yeah, sucks, but I also don’t think he knew that exactly. He knew Hydra had them killed, sure, but he does explicitly say he didn’t know it was Bucky, so… Still not great?
Take all of this with a grain of salt, considering I’m biased and my all time favorite superhero ever has and probably always will be Iron Man. (Spider Man is a very close second tho)
As for why these fic writers do mental gymnastics trying to make reasons for their favorite characters to side with Tony? Wish fulfillment. That is literally it. It’s just the story they want to tell. You can do the exact same thing, and that’s perfectly fine! The thing to remember about fanfiction is that it’s written by those who do love the source material, in one way or another! It’s also completely free. They don’t get paid to write these stories, so they should be able to write their perfect fantasy. Everyone is allowed that.
My suggestion: Filter, filter, filter. There’s a lot of fics out there that just aren’t going to be your cup of tea, but it’s someone’s, so best to just ignore it and move on to things you actually care about. You’ll want to exclude Team Cap bashing and Team Iron Man, for starters. Honestly, go wild with it. Find your perfect story.
I will continue to read Team Iron Man fics, because I love seeing my favorite hero be the good guy. Doesn’t mean I’m not aware he’s problematic. (I know I said I had a period of time where I sought them out, and I did!! Then I stopped caring for a while! But I’ve circled back around and am now in the trenches again)
I have a question.
Why da fuq do some of these annoying Tony stans think that every character from different stories would be on Team Iron Man and approve on the accords?! It’s bad enough that they make fanfics that twist, bash and warp Team Cap or any other character, and make Tony a victim and always right all the time, but they have to make crossovers where other characters would prop up Tony and bash on Steve and his team.
You got Naruto, My Hero Academia, Dragonball/Z/Super, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Supernatural, Bleach, How to Train your Dragon, Steven Universe, She-Ra, DC comics, Doctor Who, Lucifer, Sonic, even freaking Inside Out, just to name a few.
Not every character will side with the accords. Not every character will side with Tony. Some characters will side with Steve and can have legit reasons. If some of them did their research on the characters, they would know that some of them would be on one side or on neither. But they don’t because they don’t give a damn. These kind of fics keep popping up, and I’m getting sick of it. The Marvel tag on fanfiction is getting ridiculous, I just wanna find some good domestic Avengers fanfics or anything with some good stories. Not ones that bash on Team Cap and have the rest wank on Tony 24/7. Jeez. >_<

You guys forget that there's a lot between "antis" and Tomdayas/nasty solo Tom and solo Z stans. Some of us have been fans of Tom since before Spider-Man, root for him as an actor, and treat his relationship like we do any other actors' relationship.
I follow people in the industry who are not Tomdayas or stans of Tom or Zendaya and even they have said they believe in Tom as an actor and want him away from the franchises. There are also people who now want Z away from Sam.
Tom is the one who let slip that he didn't want to do SM into his 20s. RDJ said the exact same thing about him. I believe Tom meant that when he said it and the cleaned it up later. Elizabeth Olsen said some things very similar in tone about her own involvement in the franchise. Look at what's happening with Brie Larson, Hemsworth, Hiddleston, Paul Rudd (who wrote stuff dunking on the MCU into this last season of Party Down), and Disney/MCU in general. It's a shitshow before you even add Sony's involvement. So, is it really a mystery why some Tom fans think it's odd that he may have signed back on for 3 more solo films plus 1-2 Avenger films?
PS: If you haven't seen the fans are here whining about needing new "content" from Tom and Z 48 hours after they were last spotted (stalked), count yourself lucky. There are definitely people who literally say they only want another SM movie because they want another press tour.
RE: Marvel...
I mean, I'll be honest, I have my own personal thoughts and feelings about the state of the MCU and some of the Marvel films that have come out during this newer phase. Mostly, the biggest thing I feel is slight over-saturation.
I'm still enjoying the films, but I almost kind of wish that Marvel would take more TIME in their releases, and work on producing a really great product, as opposed to releasing several movies per year AND on Disney+, to the point where some fans have a hard time keeping up, or fans being disappointed in the lackluster quality of the films.
I'd rather wait every 5 years for a "Dark Knight" caliber of film, as opposed to getting a new film/series every 2 months, and having lower-quality production. 👀
But that's just me. 🤷🏾‍♀️
So, is it really a mystery why some Tom fans think it's odd that he may have signed back on for 3 more solo films plus 1-2 Avenger films?
But see....here is my issue with fans.... Fans are already complaining before anything has officially been announced yet, and BEFORE we even know whether Tom will be signing on to 3 films all at once, or, will be signing on film by film (which, imo is WAY more smart).
I think fans need to chill and save their outrage for when an official announcement actually comes out. Why waste time, breath, and energy getting all riled up over something like this, when 1) it's NOT that serious, and 2) nothing has been formally announced yet? 🥴
