I'm going to be showing off Worst Journey Vol.1 at LICAF next week! If you're lucky enough to live somewhere near the Lake District, come on by and say hi, maybe get a signed copy ...
Word is, there's going to be some Radio 4 celebrities there, so I am going to be very normal about the whole thing.

Crowdfunding Spotlight: "Little LICAF" campaign launched to offer more events for young comics readers at Lakes International Comic Art Festival
The Lakes International Comic Art Festival has launched a "Little LICAF" crowdfunding campaign to offer more events for young comics readers
The Lakes International Comic Art Festival has launched a “Little LICAF” crowdfunding campaign to offer more events for young comics readers at its 2023 Festival later this year. Little LICAF offers a free space at the Festival for children and their families, and also offers free online resources on the organisation’s official web site, with the aim of reaching non-comics readers, disadvantaged…

[image description: an sac webcomic page. "also some perv in a pub gave me your address". lewis says, hands raised in a peaceful gesture. jade stands slightly in front of him, while schmidt still has her hand raised in a not peaceful gesture, still sparking with not-electricity. "huh?" she goes, stopping her power, hand now a fist raised, and raising an eyebrow. "um. some guy named parker?" lewis says, off panel. "oh! right, right, i know that guy. unfortunatly. "fucks sake, i told him to tell me when he wants a commission..." she says off panel, while jade keeps glaring at her, one arm raised in front of lewis protectivly. lewis looks converned at the statement but doesnt otherwise react. end id]
intresting statement, i'll leave you to speculate on whatever that means. next page will be fun, though. also could my internet work for 5 godamn minutes so i can upload this, please?
you'll notice that there was no update last week and as you can imagine, i was once again exhausted from the convention the weekend before. that was the last one of the year though! unless i get accepted last minute to another, but even if not at least i'll be a lot less stressed!
seriously i didnt even get to chill in the lake district because the travel was so bad. like 3 hours of cancellation and delays and then almost didnt even get there bad. i did however get a full refund which is great because it was like, £102. the vibe at that con was nice though, and got to pet a bunch of dogs. would reccomend LICAF to artists as long as they either live near enough to travel via bus or just have a car because man that hotel room was not worth the cost. also i heard someone getting it on in the next room.
also i've got a two week holiday in a week and a half so i am excited to be able to chill and hopefully make a backlog so i dont have to fly by seat of my pants each page! and hopefully continue working on getting sac into print. also also, i've finally made my etsy (Galaxiaprince) open internationally! didnt before because i tried looking up how customs worked while completely burnt out and was like oh reading makes my brain hurt ill just try the uk first. but anyway yeah fixed that now
#sac#someone always cares#webcomic#webcomics#also i got asked to sign things at that con like twice#very cool#unfortunatly all i had was paint markers pencils and a large brush pen#all of which are terrible for signing things because pencils were too weak for that kinda paper and paint markers need drying time#so brush pen wins by default sorry to those two people#also i pet many dogs including one that was in a backpack and had its wee head poking out

Week 11 - Compulsory Question 1
For our group, we decided to create a collage manifesto:
Although I have always had my own manifestos, I have never written them down anywhere, mostly just keeping them in my thoughts. I find creating a poster, and viewing it physically helps so much more in reminding myself of my own rules. Sometimes, we get so caught up in things that we easily forget our purpose so I find this activity to be extremely insightful.
An alternative manifesto I would have added to the collage would be “Don’t complicate things”. I realize I tend to overthink and make things way harder than it is in my head. Because of these thoughts, I start to procrastinate due to not knowing where to start. Another I would also add is “Be straightforward and keep it simple”. As I want to create art that is easy to look at and understand. In today’s hectic world, I want my art to bring joy and relief from daily stress.
Recently, I’ve noticed that I’m getting better at answering questions about my identity as a designer, thanks to my experience in CTS B. The self-reflection exercises in week 2 and 10 have been particularly helpful in clarifying what kind of designer I want to be. In the past, I often lacked confidence in my responses because the question felt too broad. I didn’t know my style and felt I had nothing figured out. However, through CTS and my other modules, I’ve gradually discovered what I like and dislike as a designer. This journey has boosted my confidence, as I’m now starting to produce designs that truly reflect my vision and passion.
Additionally, I’ve been applying my manifestos to my other modules, and it has been incredibly beneficial. For example, in Studio, we had to create designs for a food festival that could adapt to various formats. Our initial designs were messy and, honestly, quite difficult to apply across different media. We decided to pivot to a more adaptable design that also strengthened our brand image. This shift not only simplified our work but also streamlined our workflow, making everything more efficient.
Another module where my manifesto really helped was illustration.
I originally planned to animate all the small flying human figures in my piece. However, I soon realized that this would be impractical and not economical. Making the piece look too noisy, which would go against my goal of showing peace and simplicity. Plus, since my cats are the main focus of the illustration, it makes more sense to animate them instead. This way, people can better appreciate the main subjects. From this, I learned that sometimes less is more, and working smart is better than just working hard.

Uses of Ultraviolet laser
Laser systems emitting in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum.
These solid-state (DPSS) diode-pumped (semiconductor) lasers emit in the ultraviolet (UV) range of the spectrum. The technology for the production of UV lasers is associated with many difficulties, but despite this, there are some sources of Ultraviolet laser radiation. There are two ways to make an Ultraviolet laser.
First, cerium-based solid-state crystals (Ce+3:LiCAF or Ce+3:LiLuF4) emitting in the UV range are used; in most cases, cerium crystals are pumped with nanosecond pulses. Secondly, solid-state crystals are used that emit in the visible or near-IR ranges (Nd:YAG or Nd:YVO4), followed by frequency conversion of the radiation on nonlinear crystals. For example, to generate a wavelength of 355 nm, an IR solid-state crystal (1064 nm) is used, followed by frequency tripling on a non-linear crystal, and for 266 nm, an IR solid-state crystal (1064 nm) is used, followed by two subsequent frequency doublings. Of considerable interest are UV laser diodes based on GaN and AlGaN, but their application is limited due to extreme instability. When UV radiation interacts with traces of hydrocarbons in the air, organic films are deposited on nearby surfaces (for example, solid-state and nonlinear crystals), which leads to a deterioration in the quality of radiation, therefore, for more efficient operation (especially with wavelengths ≤200 nm), it is recommended to use a vacuum. UV radiation can lead to a change in the chemical structure of a substance (for example, to breaking bonds), this property is used in the production of Bragg gratings, as well as for sterilization of water and medical instruments, curing of compound compositions (adhesive, epoxy resin).
Powerful Ultraviolet laser is used effectively to cut and burn small holes in a variety of materials, including materials that are transparent to visible laser light. UV radiation causes fluorescence on the surface of some materials, this phenomenon is used for analytical studies (for example, quality control). Ultraviolet laser can be continuous (CW) or pulsed (Q-switched pulsed). The UV range is quite promising for building high-precision information lasers for communication. The use of lasers for communication has had a great influence on the development of telecommunication information systems for monitoring the characteristics of the atmosphere.

Progress Update: October
I’m trying a new thing here. Every month on Patreon I post a writeup of how (and where) the month has gone; these are always public and free to anyone who cares to visit, but a lot of people seem hesitant about clicking on a Patreon link, so I am going to copy them here. If I can remember. Let’s see how many months this lasts … LICAF The Lakes Comic Art Festival was both interesting and…

May as well throw this on tumblr too - I’ve recently been published!
I was in a mentorship with the Lakes International Comic Arts Festival and Soaring Penguin to produce a comics anthology with other British writers and artists, which has finally come into fruition!
I ended up writing and drawing a story charged with environmental activism themes about a tiny forest sprite attempting to figure out why their forest is dying. There’s poetry reading ogres, big scary government figures, cool futuristic cities and lots of tiny flower people.
The hard backs are now available to buy on the website, and I’d like to eventually get them up on my own etsy when I have a free moment \o/
