Ash and Sam wanted the A included in the LGBTIQ-plus initialism, and had geared up for a long campaign with the Tasmanian government. To their surprise, the government's LGBTIQ-plus reference group almost immediately accepted it. In Tasmania, the official initialism in government documents has now been expanded to LGBTIQA-plus – the first state to provide this level of recognition.

8. Conclusion

Hey
My name is Calvin Phil. I'm a queer refugee originally from Uganda, but I'm currently living in a refugee camp called Gorom in South Sudan. Though I know it might feel a bit random. I’m really sorry for reaching out like this; it's embarrassing, and I hate to ask for help in this manner. I hope you understand.
I represent a group of fellow LGBTIQ refugees here, and we are facing some serious issues that I wanted to share with you in case you're able to help or know someone who can. We are currently in urgent need of support for survival. Many of us are starving, with no access to food or medication, and some are living with HIV/AIDS. The situation is extremely dire, and on top of that, we face daily persecution, as Sudan's laws against the LGBTIQ community are harsh and unforgiving.
Any support or help for our cause would mean the world to us in these desperate times. If you're unable to donate, sharing this with others would be immensely appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Can't donate currently but I can share around.
For those wondering everything on the blog seems trustworthy enough that I'm willing to share this. Plus I found someone else saying it seems OK.

Call to uninvite PM from queer events after broken promises
New Post has been published on https://qnews.com.au/call-to-uninvite-pm-from-queer-events-after-broken-promises/
Call to uninvite PM from queer events after broken promises
Just.Equal Australia has declared Anthony Albanese should not be invited to LGBTIQA+ events or parades after broken promises to the community, including a shocking call on LGBTIQA+ inclusion in the next national Census.
Yesterday, it was confirmed the Albanese Government has vetoed counting LGBTIQA+ people in the 2026 Census, breaking a pre-election promise.
The decision came just weeks after the government dumped a key reform to protect LGBTIQA+ staff and students in religious schools from discrimination.
Just.Equal’s Rodney Croome declared, “Mr Albanese should not be invited to any LGBTIQA+ event or parade until he counts us in the Census and protects LGBTIQA+ teachers and students from discrimination.
“He may have marched across the Sydney Harbour Bridge for WorldPride last year, but in the eyes of many LGBTIQA+ Australians he has now pulled up the draw bridge to equality.”
‘Deep betrayals of trust’
LGBTIQA+ organizations, who’d worked for years on counting us in the next Census, found out about the government’s decision in media reports on Sunday.
Assistant Minister Andrew Leigh confirmed that day there would be no change.
“While the Australian Bureau of Statistics tests changes from time to time, it’s the government’s decision that there will be no change to the topics in the next Census,” he said.
The Australian Labor Party’s 2023 national platform argued LGBTIQ+ Aussies should be counted in the census. The policy platform also committed to ensuring the 2026 count gathers that data.
“The decision not to include us in the Census shows that in this Government’s eyes, we don’t count,” Rodney Croome said.
“Last year the Federal Government funded the development of a national LGBTIQA+ health strategy. But now it’s hobbled its own initiative by vetoing its main data source.
“Exclusion from the Census, plus the failure to protect LGBTIQA+ people from discrimination in religious schools, are deep betrayals of the trust of the LGBTIQA+ community.”
Religious discrimination reform dumped
On religious discrimination reform, Labor shelved proposed draft bills after repeatedly promising change, including before the 2022 election. An Australian Law Reform Commission report also recommended the law change.
At that time, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese blamed the Coalition for the failure to reach an agreement.
“I don’t intend to engage in a partisan debate when it comes to religious discrimination,” he said earlier this month.
But Greens LGBTQIA+ spokesperson Stephen Bates argued Labor had refused to work with the Greens to pass the legislation.
Rodney Croome said a survey of LGBTIQA+ voters after the last election showed 21% shifted from Labor to the Greens, teals and independents because of Labor’s support for Scott Morrison’s anti-LGBTQIA+ Religious Discrimination Bill.
“Mr Albanese says he wants to promote social cohesion and prevent division. But by pushing LGBTIQA+ Australians back into the statistical closet he is doing exactly the opposite,” Rodney Croome said.
“The Government’s betrayal of our community will inevitably mean Federal Labor will lose yet more votes of LGBTIQA+ people at the next election.”

For Australians, the Australian Queer Archives “hold the largest collection of material relating to Australian LGBTIQ+ life, and the largest collection of non-Australian LGBTIQ+ material in Australia” growing to more than 200,000 items since being established in 1978. They have some great guides and lists to get started on a topic, plus a page with links to many other queer archives around the world!
Very cool to learn about them and their work :)
We need a digital archive of LGBTQ+ works of art, science, and every other conceivable work we can share between each other because we are beyond the genocide warning level in most countries in the west and they're already trying to purge us from libraries.

“LGBTIQ”
Great effort, but two things:
1: we’re fucking idiots. the only “LGBT IQ” is two digits.
2: Great job on excluding aro/ace/assorted people, ya didn’t even add the plus.
even LGB+ (L/LG are short for Loser and The Company LG) can work (LGBT+ is the shortest I’d trust if you’re using the plus though.)

Quote
There is a clear gender difference between the position of women and men in the Roma community. [I]t is easier to be Roma gay than Roma lesbian because there’s specific roles for women. If she’s lesbian, she also must behave as a Roma woman: stay at home. Freedom [to move] is not something that she got, she’s not educated, she’ll be stuck in her house in the Roma community. It is so much harder to find partner if you’re Roma lesbian in the settlement. The testimonies of those women show life of solitude, loneliness. They don't want to have a partner in the Roma community. [Not wanting a Romani partner] applies also to Roma gays because everyone will know. [But] men can do whatever they want, they can go outside, they can go somewhere, even in the park and they will find another [non-Romani] guy. But it is so hard to be Roma lesbian woman. Some Romani lesbian women are forced to marry. They didn't have right to react; they had to be married. Violence against women is present; it’s not a ‘Roma thing’ but it exists in Roma communities as well. [I]f they’re lesbians, they were beaten up because of sexual identity. Because of invisibility of lesbian Romani women, it’s obvious that they live their lives [as] hidden lives. They don’t want to show themselves as lesbians and therefore gay men are more visible. [T]his is a male world and it is like in the majority [and] in the Roma community, it’s no different. It is easier to be a gay man because of power. (...) We [lesbians and gays] are not the same, we don't have the same experiences. I can’t define myself as a gay woman: I’m not gay. That is why I don't use ‘gay woman’. I’m first of all radical feminist. We have such a different life actually because gay men have privilege. (...) [B]eing lesbian or gay doesn't mean that gender roles in your community don't apply any more. They apply, plus you have something more: a [label] that you’re different because of sexual orientation.

Recently, I was easily distracted by the thought of coming out to my aunt. I couldn’t concentrate on my studies or even work. The weight of this thought became unbareable at some point and I overthought a lot and became kinda depressed (even if I put all my effort to study and to work - the thought was always there)... some of you know that I’m a muslim girl and maybe some of you can relate how much I struggled with the thought of coming out. My aunt is the second most important person in my family to me. I can always talk with her about anything except for that matter... I know there will never be the right time to come out to anyone and I thought very hard about my decision and came to the conclusion, that it’s finally time. Believe me when I say, I was shit scared about the outcome but I felt courageous enough to ask her yesterday if she can meet me today. Yeah, while I was giffing Manner of Death, my mind was always with her because today was the day. Today was the day when I decided to come out to her. I’m even surprised about myself that I could gif something. When I went to my family’s house, everyone was there including my other aunt. I only ate breakfast because I couldn’t eat something else. I was very nervous. Before I really did it, I needed to eat. I forced myself because in the whole process I thought, my blood sugar would sink very quick and one struggle is already enough. At this point I didn’t even knew if I was forcing myself to come out or really wanted to do it on my own, like I said it’s never the right time to come out. I had so many thoughts and my mind was just full with things what made it more difficult for me. I don’t even know how I started to talk and before I knew, my hands already became very shakey and yeah I decided to come out to her in a song. So I gave her my phone and while she started to watch it, I started to cry. I had so much thoughts and I couldn’t stop tearing up. She stopped the video and looked at me. I broke down because I didn’t know how she would react but she asked why I was so scared to tell her... I told her it’s because of the rejection plus duh being muslim. She reassured me that she would never reject me and loves me the way I am. I'm no difference to her than her own daughters. Of course she needs time to adjust to the thought of me being part of the lgbtiq+ but she also told me, if I ever have a girlfriend, she would like to meet her. She talked about even though we're religious, it's a matter between me and god and no one can say or judge me for it. (I cried very ugly and hard during the whole conversation) she hugged me and said she loves me either way. What’s most important to her is me and my happiness. The way she hugged me and the way I let myself fall into her arms and finally let the thought and this unbareable weight go of my shoulders and my chest. All the painful negative thoughts were gone at this moment, it was the comfort I needed most. The love and happiness I felt through that hug. My soul and heart felt never more lighter and shinier than in that hug. yeah, so I came out to my aunt today. Out and proud.

Hi there, I'm sorry to bother you but I'm just feeling kind of lost. I recently came out as bisexual to my long-term boyfriend who of course took it amazingly because he's the nicest man in the world but I really don't want to tell anyone else. I don't feel like I'll be accepted in the LGBTIQ+ community and while my family probably wouldn't care, I just don't want to tell people. But now I feel like I'm lying to people I love, I just want to know if you feel a sense of relief when you come out?
when i came out i definitely felt great, like a weight was lifted, but everyone feels differently about coming out. You should only come out when you feel comfortable, not because you feel obligated to. Plus, your family doesnt need to know every little thing about you at that exact moment, take your time and do as you feel best. If you still feel as though you should come out, you can! just remember you dont have to rush it.

But SpringOut is much more than just Fair Day, events throughout November include a celebration of George Michael at Cube Nightclub, Localjinni Women’s Moonwalks, a conference on Queer Screen Stories, comedy events, book launches, and art exhibitions.
Sports enthusiasts can also look forward to events organised by ACT Veterans Rugby, including a Women’s Rugby Match, and an inclusive sports day curated by Reclink Australia at Duntroon Oval.
And after a month of celebrations and frivolity, the FUSE Big Gay Breakfast on December 1 marks the perfect end to Pride in the Capital.
The SpringOUT Festival in Canberra runs from 1-30 November 2024. Check out the full line up of festival events at springout.com.au
