Via @southernresidentorcas Today’s post is L117 “Keta”! - L117 “Keta” was born in 2010 to L54 “Ino” (b. 1977) and was her last known calf. - Keta has two siblings, L100 “Indigo” (2001-2014) and L108 “Coho” (b. 2006). His grandmother is L35 “Victoria” (est. 1942-1996) and through her, Keta has one aunt L65 “Aquarius” (1984-1994) and two one possible uncles L1 “Oskar” (est. 1959-2000 and L50 “Shala” (est. 1973-1989). - L88 “Wavewalker” (b. 1993), an unrelated orphaned adult male, travels with the L54’s permanently and Keta’s mother Ino seems to have taken over the mother role for Wavewalker. L84 “Nyssa” (1990-2019), another orphaned male, also used to traveled with Keta’s family but he has unfortunately passed away earlier this year. - As Keta’s mother Ino has only had male offspring and is currently 42 years old, she is likely post-reproductive which means Keta’s matriline will eventually die out. - L117’s name “Keta” is another word for chum salmon, a type of salmon that the Southern Residents eat. His brother’s name Coho is also a reference to a salmon species of the Pacific Northwest. - L117 “Keta” can be identified by his two open saddlepatches. - Do you love L117 “Keta”? Let us know why in the comments! - Photo credit in the comments https://www.instagram.com/p/B3KwMavikJ9/?igshid=1vottdky7oa5s

InkTober2018 nr. 4 L54 Ino, an adult female Southern Resident born in 1977. She has had three calves, L100 Indigo who passed away, L108 Coho and L117 Keta.
The Southern Residents are starving to death before our eyes. We have to take action now; breach the dams, ban salmon fishing and stop the pipelines! Check out pnwprotectors.com, damsense.org and whaleresearch.com for more information on how you can help. This is up to us!
