Celtic Frost

These are two of the earliest photos of the newly formed Celtic Frost, taken in June of 1984 at the former Hellhammer rehearsal space, the Grave Hill Bunker, in Birchwil, Switzerland. They depict Celtic Frost's first line-up, with drummer and close friend Isaac Darso.

This incarnation of the band only lasted for one rehearsal, during which we wrote a first song for what would become the "Morbid Tales" album some four months later. Unfortunately, the cassette with that song (and thus the song itself) vanished shortly after.

Around 20 of these early photos survive, half of them shot at the rehearsal space, the other half using Birchwil's old mill at the edge of the woods as a backdrop. They were taken by erstwhile Hellhammer photographer martin Kyburz.

Outtake from the very first photo shoot of the newly completed original line-up of Celtic Frost, shortly after US drummer Reed St. Mark had joined the band. Reed St. Mark's first meeting with Celtic Frost took place in February of 1985. The actual audition, on the same day, lasted only a couple of minutes. It was clear very quickly that this was the drummer the band needed, and everybody involved also was keen to take this chance and see what could arise from it. Also present that day were legendary Celtic Frost crew members Reto "Rick Lights" Rietmann and Marco "Dinosaur" Suremann.

Week 225: Saturday, January 27th, our first time at Echo Lake Sno-Park, Echo Summit Rd, Echo Lake. We had a fabulous time having a snow ball fight, building a Triforce, and seeing the view of Lake Tahoe from Echo Lake Summit! On the way there we grabbed brunch at Moon's Korean Kitchen, 13220 US-50, Kyburz, and afterwards we got coffee at Three Pines Coffee Company, 115 Harrison Ave, South Lake Tahoe. Then we stopped by El Dorado Beach where we had gone with Jess 5 years ago! We spent the night back in Sacramento at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Sacramento Riverfront Promenade, 100 Capital Mall. We had dinner along the river at Rio City Cafe, 1110 Front St, and had a nighttime ride on the carousel with all the sparkly lights!
