me when republicans introduce climate legislation just to offset it with increased industry that really just creates a net nuetral and does nothing :/
#this is about the trillion trees act#beautiful piece of legislation#when combined with efforts to decrease emissions#instead of just using trees for their carbon sequestration#if we increase our emisions to match the rate of sequestration nothing good actually happens#there are other examples of this#so like#rb or comment with more examples

using timber isn't actually evil. clear cutting and doing nothing to ensure the health of forests that you've just logged from is
#wood keep the carbon it's stored up even when you cut down a tree#so using wood is actually better for reducing our carbon emisions when combined with consciousness of leaving trees and replanting#forest biology#forests

Why is no one talking about how when Mel figured out that wasn't really her brother she just full out no hesitation bashed its skull in (or tried to). Girl realized the problem and hit the puppet with so much strength she split the magical wall. Mel Medarda queen that you are what is happening to you

fun fact:
the forest type responsible for the largest amount of carbon sequestration are mangroves!

studying for finals and slowly realizing that many of the ways in which we view forests and ecosystems are highly influenced by the ways in which society functions.
why am i only learning from white male scholars who have eady access to get their work published? white male scholars whose worldview greatly impacts their work. and why can't we disuss how this worldview influences how they see nature?
like why do we call plants taking hold in 'unclaimed' areas colonization? why is every plant searching for life a colonist. not to be a liberal who is stuck up on verbage but come on man
i know competition for resources is a large part of what plants get to suceed but so is resource sharing. why is that less emphasized when we learn about these subjects? without large trees shade tolerant species would not be able to thrive. without shade tolerant species we would have no understory and therefore less habitat. everything wroks together even whilst competing for resource like sunlight. why is this shit not emphasized?
humans are capable of coexisting in our environments too. why do we act like we are outside of the environment when it is convinient to do so? why are we only a part of the environment when we do good and not when we are actively doing harm?
#maybe i'm just fed up with my forest bio class#because i have had professors willing to talk about these subjects with me#also acknowledging i'm not above any of the things i criticize#im also just some white guy whose still learning shit lmao#studying and angry#grr mad#forest biology

I just wanted to share this article about Palestine's right to revolt and why it is important that we support it. It also has sources embedded in the text that debunk misinformation about them and Hamas. I implore everyone to read it and spread this information around.
#palestine#fighting your oppressors does not mean you are 'just as evil'#it means you are fighting for freedom#stand with palestine

the potenital of invasive species crop up after insane weather events due to new space :( potential of beneficial species like oaks being able to bounce back due to new space and canopy gaps after insane weather events :)
never knowing which one it will be until years after and being unable to protect all forest compartments from potenital negative effects of hurricanes and other natural disaster :/ knowing that disturbance can be a good thing :) knowing that the high frequency and intensity in which disturbance is happening due to climate change is most likely causing irreprable damage that many plant and animal communties (including human ones) will be unable to bounce back from due to the nature of these events :( knowing we can do something about it if we all come together and realize how humans can be better land stewards :) knowing that capitalism and other systems of power we've created are preventing us from making needed large scale change :(
