The Yaudheya - who, what? They were an ancient military people based in the Eastern Regions of the Sapta Sindhu - a copper coin of theirs here depicting the Hindu War God Kartikeya (who is also a war god under other names via Buddhism spreading his story Eastward most commonly as Skanda, and in China, as Wei Tuo -- Skanda serves as a celestial guardian role here).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The word Yaudheya comes from Brahmi script (a script you'll see two iterations of/nods to in Tales of Tremaine by name).
Their name comes from the word Yodha - which means warrior/s. And this is backed up by their resistance of invasions by the Kushan Empire, and the Indo-Scythians. The Yaudheya would eventually claim dominion over all the Kuru Kingdoms held and then they themselves would become later absorbed into the Maurya Empire by Chandragupta Maurya. Eventually, the Indo Greek Kingdom Yavana would capture a majority of this empire, but fail to subdue to Yaudheya, who would successfully triumph until eventually losing to to the Indo Scythian Rudradaman I.
But the Yaudheya left an impression on the ruler that led to the inscription of a Sanskrit in prose (not poetry) honoring them as proud heroes - it is known as the Junagadh rock inscription of Rudradaman - dated at 150 CE (common era)

THE MIGHTY PANCHALAS OF THE NORTH
I am honestly, HONESTLY baffled at the shitty portrayals of the Panchalas, be it in TV serials or Wattpad fictions on Mahabharat ( Yes, I am on Wattpad as a writer too ).
As someone who closely follows the authentic texts, the degradation of this mighty sect of Kshatriyas feels like a personal attack. Starting from Drupad to Dhrishtadyumn, EVERYONE is shown as GOOD FOR NOTHING. And this seriously boils up my blood to the core. Drupad and Dhrishtadyumn are mostly toyed around like clueless creatures, and the other sons of Drupad are hardly mentioned. Shikhandi has little to no job and those who mention Satyajit, oh God! They make an ABSOLUTE mockery out of him, like an incapable Prince who has no job of his own!
THEY DON'T EVEN SPARE DRUPAD'S WIFE PRISHATI EITHER!
Let me tell you, the PANCHALAS were a greatest power during the Era of Mahabharat, specially under Drupad! This entire part of north gains so much attention in Mahabharat!
And please, please! Drupad isn't some oldie or something, a misogynistic man ( like in SP Mb). He is one of the best fathers of Mahabharat! Also his ruling capabilities, his ways to analyze things will leave you shocking on how this man has been reduced to trash in fictions and serials!
Just read through the parts where Drupad was involved with the Pandavas along with Krishna, Balram etc and discussing about the war ( from BORI) and you will be baffled with the way Drupad articulates himself and keeps his point of view there. This man knows what he wants and that's how a Kshatriya should be! He is the one who supports the Pandavas till the end!
Like any father, he could've taken back Draupadi or instead go against the Pandavas for what had happened to his daughter, but no! He is the one who genuinely understood the plight of the Pandavas too! Like any family the Panchalas could've blamed the Pandavas, but did they? They never! Till the very end they stood on the side of Dharma with them! If you think Drupad to be stupid, just look at the choices of friendship and strategies he makes. This man knows very well how to make Panchal a powerful kingdom and oh man he lived up to it.
Also yes: I want to bring your attention to Drupad Drona rivalry. Yes, this is somewhere where Drupad falters, but let's also have a look at the story from Drupad's POV too-
Drupad was a child when he had gone to the ashram and he meets Drona, who is older than him; double of his age- they become fast friends and Drona also helps him in his studies. Drupad, happy enough, promises him a part of his kingdom.
Drupad thinks that Drona is his friend and will be forever loyal to him.
Also, mind you, Panchalas and Kurus were always enemies ( before DrauPan marriage) . Drupad, after a few years sees his best friend sticking with Bheeshm, and becoming the son in law of Hastinapur! ( if anyone doesn't know, Dron's wife Kripi is the adopted daughter of Shantanu.)
How will you feel seeing your friend making your enemy a close family all the while, and not even bothering to inform you about it? Mind it Drona always knew about the beef between the two kingdoms, but did he bother ever explaining to Drupad anything? Or assuring him? Even for once?
But what does Drona do? He one day lands up in front of Drupad and start asking for the part of Kingdom he promised? Suddenly he remembers Drupad?
As Drupad, why will you even trust someone who was sticking with your enemy like it was nothing? Isn't Drupad's anger here justified? Yes, he did not fulfill his promise, but will you had if your friend ever did this?
Won't you feel betrayed, left out and hurt? Someone you innocently considered your own and then they do these without bothering to tell you anything?!
Also what's with showing Dhrishtadyumn so angry and hot headed 24x7? If anyone doesn't know, Vaishampaayan considers him like one of the Pandavas, at par the Pandavas almost! He for God's sake IS THE INCARNATION OF AGNI HIMSELF! Stop showing him so petty everywhere! You know, when he comes out of the fire, he roars like a lion that the entire Panchal almost trembles at it? You show this guy powerless, good for nothing? He was one of the favorite confidates of Bheem and Saatyaki ( if anyone didn't know) and one of the most crucial one in handling the army of Pandavas during war! He's the one who looks after the Upapandvas and cares for them!
I seriously don't understand the need to pull them down just to glorify the others!
The Panchalas were one of the most powerful forces to exist, get that fact drilled in your head guys!

In this universe the battle of Kurukshetra never happens. Pandavas along with Arjuni are married to Draupadi, whereas Arjuni is also married to Krishna.
Being a woman, Arjuni was always criticised and underestimated by her own family members, especially her so called cousins known as the Kauravas, even though she was the best student of Dronacharya and the best Archer in the whole Aryavart.
Hastinapur is faced with a war from the enemy kingdom, Magadha. The Kauravas and Pandavas, forced to work together, were discussing in the court of Hastinapur. Arjuni, being the brilliant strategist she is, tries to put forth her ideas but is put down by Duryodhan.
"Just listen to me once—" She tries again.
"Oh just stop it, dear cousin! You are a woman. Go work in the kitchens or something. This is not your cup of tea! We are men and better than you!" Duryodhan, the evil git, spats out. He even convinces his father, the blind fool Dhritarashtra. "Pitashree! Tell Arjuni that she is not allowed to participate in the war! Women are not made for fighting! They are only good with dancing, cooking and the other womenly talents and nothing else!"
"Of course, Putra, of course! You are right! Putri Arjuni, please do understand. You should not participate in this war." Arjuni scoffed in anger. She glanced at her brothers, who just looked the other way. She seethed at rage. How dare they talk this way about them and underestimate them WOMEN!? That enraged her.
Duryodhan smirked at her. As Bheem sensed his sister's anger, he reached his hands towards her, only for his hand to be smacked away.
Tumblr media
"Don't come crawling back to me then, Bhrata Duryodhan!" She said, her voice laced with poisonous venom. Arjuni turned away and stormed out of the Sabha, angrily.
Tumblr media
The Pandavas regretted their decision of staying quiet. They just made their sister angry at ALL the men in the court, except for maybe her husband. As Nakul was about to follow, Draupadi was faster and she rushed behind her beloved wife. Krishna gave a disapproved look at Yudhishthir and followed behind his Sakhi, Yudhishthir sulking under his brother-in-law's gaze.
Both Krishna and Draupadi rushed to Arjuni's room. Arjuni had punched a mirror, whose shards dug into her hand but she didn't care. Her right hand was bleeding profusely.
"Aryaputri!" Draupadi yelled, tensed. Arjuni stopped with her rage and turned around slowly with anger written all over her face. Draupadi rushed forward and started to pull the mirror shards out of Arjuni's right arm and hand. "...i am alright, Drau."
"You are not alright, Parthavi. Both of us can sense it. Please stop hiding your true emotions, when with us atleast. Calm your anger down, priye, because we don't want to an angry Mahakali to destroy Hastinapur, now do we?" Krishna joked to calm his wife down, which seemed to work. Both the 'Krishnaa's laughed heartily as Kanha smiled goofily.
"I sense something is going to happen and you might have to go to the war, Priye Parthavi." Krishna said again. "Mhm...maybe. But i will never forgive them for belittling us women. Do they not understand..."
"Settle down, Aryaputri." Told Draupadi as she tied a cloth coated with medicine around Arjuni's arm for the wounds to heal. "As Govind said, you might have to go to the war. I mean, no one is a better warrior than you in our kingdom, not even Angaraj. Trust us." Agnisutaa soothed her. Savyasachi finally calmed down and gave a smile to the other two people, who blushed at her charming, pleasant smile.
---------------
As the Kuru heirs got ready for the war, Arjuni just stood there as they took their blessings. Nakul and Sahadev as well as some of the Kauravas, who saw her as their second mother and teacher, apologised and took her blessings. Arjuni being Karunamayi, blessed and forgave them as they didn't have any other choice other than to listen to their older brothers.
She watched as her brothers and cousins left for the war on their horses.
Soon in the evening, she recieved the news of all the Kuru princes being held hostage by the Magadha Raj Jarasandha and Vanraj Putra Ekalavya. Arjuni didn't even bother to do anything or show any emotion as she just walked away gracefully, ignoring all the stares and calls for her. Later, when she was alone, Dhritarashtra himself visited her and begged her to help his sons and her brothers. "Putri! Please heed this request of your tatshree! Please save them and assist them!"
Arjuni scoffed. "Oh please, tatshree! Women are not meant on the battlefield, like you said! Right? That will hurt their male ego if i go there! When they are so egoistic, they should help themselves without my help." She said no more and ignored and her uncle.
But Arjuni being her Karunamayi self, couldn't let her brothers and by default her cousins be hurt or killed, so she decided to go and prepare for war for the following day.
"Madhav, what should i do? I can not even let them get hurt as their sister, but they did so many hurtful things to me. I can not even decide..." Vijayaa exasperated. Shyamsundara put his hand on his wife's shoulder. "Don't you worry, Parthavi. I will be your charioteer, and charioteers are meant to show you the right path. I won't take any declination as an answer!" He said, smug. And she was forced to agree.
--------
Gandivdhari left with her deadly bow, with Krishna as her charioteer. Upon reaching, she immediately starts firing thousands of arrows, destroying half of the Magadha forces. As she performed her dance of Destruction on the battlefield, she faced Ekalavya. Arjuni's trauma from Ekalavya's cut off thumb all those years ago came back. Vijayaa and Ekalavya kept firing deadly arrows with dealier accuracy at each other.
As she tensed, she was enveloped with sweet, flute melodies. It was not seeming like Ekalavya could hear them, so why was she....
Then it clicked. Muralimanohar was doing that!
She smiled at her husband, who smiled back.
Savyasachi then did something which no one could think of. She created an expanse of ice mirrors all around her opponent, who looked here and there, alarmed, as Savyasachi's reflection appeared in all of those mirrors, and she looked more and more deadly in each of them.
As Ekalavya stammered with his movements, Arjuni from who knows where appeared behind him. When Ekalavya turned to face her, she had already bind him with powerful paranormal ropes, and he hadn't even noticed. He then faced a powerful punch in his gut, resulting in him coughing out blood and falling unconscious.
-------------
Arjuni arrived where her cousins and brothers were held hostage, and with quick fluid movements, made each and every soldier on gaurd unconscious. She kicked down the jail gate.
"Arjuni?"
"Jyeshtaa!"
"You!—"
"Shut the hell up and follow me without making any sound. Or else we all will be in trouble." Arjuni said emotionlessly as she freed everyone from their binds.
With her help and guidance, Jarasandha was defeated that day and killed. His body was tore open by Bheem and thrown in two opposite directions, resulting in Jarasandha's death.
------------
From that day onwards, no one belittled her or any other woman and always took her help, with almost everything.
The most shocking was Duryodhan's apology and ask for help from her.
"Hey..uh— Arjuni. I came here to apologise from you. I also need a little help—" as Duryodhan looked at his cousin's face, and was met with a gobsmacked expression on her attractive, bewitching face.
Arjuni checked if she was sick or if Duryodhan was ill by checking his forehead's temperature. She then rubbed her eyes and shook her head, not believing the sight infront of her. She then checked if her ears were working properly or not.
All the while Duryodhan looked embarrassed and Krishna and Draupadi were dying from laughing so much. Yajnaseni nearly fell from her place and Keshav have to support his Sakhi while clutching his hurting stomach from laughing so much. Yudhishthir was chuckling and Bheem was laughing merrily. Even the Kauravas laughed at their brother's poor state.
That was one of the most happiest and pleasant sights the castle had ever witnessed.

For @livingtheparadoxlife, who asked I write something on the twins and Krishnaa after the war.
This is gonna be long and angsty as hell, warning.
Krishnaa can barely look at her youngest two husbands nowadays.
It is no fault of their own, she knows.
But the kalachakra has spun, wreaking untold devastation across every single person, ripping their very souls out of them.
She can barely look at them together for a few seconds before she is reminded by the ghost of what is, what was, and bile rises in her throat and she has to excuse herself, their sad eyes trailing her as she flees, eyes burning.
She gets as far as the next room before she falls to her knees, chest heaving, her insides screaming for breath because every inhale chokes her with the red dust of Kurukshetra and the rank stench of rotting corpses and the metallic tang of blood even though she is hundreds of yojanas away from Kurukshetra. Her eyes do not see the gaudy wealth of the Kurus but the headless and mutilated bodies of her family.
Krishnaa Draupadi—once affectionately called Panchaali, the saubhagya of Prishata's line, is the last daughter of Panchala. The only survivor of the royal family.
She is sonless, fatherless, brotherless—
Twinless.
Dhrishtadyumna.
She cannot think about him without feeling her soul crumble into thousands of pieces, but he is never far from her thoughts.
His luminous eyes, always so full of life, glint at her from a dark corner of the room, but now they are bloodshot, listless, empty, so empty, too empty—
She had always been aware of Dhrishtadyumna through a fire-edged bond in the back of her mind, no matter the distance between them. But that connection had burned to pieces, a choked and whimpering spark being put out instead of the glorious roar of a warrior, leaving ashes drifting in the wind.
They had won.
They had won.
And then they had lost—everything.
Krishnaa had always been blessed with companionship and love beyond any normal person and she had been eternally grateful for it. But there had no one who knew her best but her twin. She had been with him from the first moment her awareness sparked into existence, cradled by the fire's womb, twin sparks in two bodies.
All her secrets, all her tears, all her joy was his—and all of his was hers.
She told him everything, things she'd never tell her husbands.
But he wasn't here anymore.
And Nakula and Sahadeva still had each other.
They were the only two of her husbands who truly understood her bond with Dhrishtadyumna. They understood what it meant to be a twin, more than she could put into words.
But they had always had each other. There was never a moment they were separated. The sons of Maadri had never been torn from the other's side—not through their exiles, their sojourns in other kingdoms, not through the battle.
And she hates that.
She hates that she hates it—hates that she hates her husbands for something so—so small.
(But it isn't small at all.)
She wants to wail, scream at fate: why were they allowed to keep their souls intact when I have burned myself over and over for them and my soul is torn into two—
You have no right to take my twin from me—
The pain is too much, please bring him back—
Please—
Have I not given enough?
A twin is a mirror, a double helix, Dhrishta had said once, orange-brown eyes smiling at her, hand warm in hers—and Nakula and Sahadeva, she and Dhrishtadyumna have always been that. Similar yet different, but always together.
She had stood alone, eyes reflecting the burning pyres of her dead family, clear vision and chin tilted, watching Nakula reach for a weeping Sahadeva—a comfort in a hand reaching in the blind darkness but knowing that they will always reach back for you.
She wanted that—needed it more than anything.
But the one who used to give her that comfort was burning on the pyre in front of her.
They had approached her a few times after that. She would not look at them. Resentment, bitter and sharp, would curdle a vicious poison in her but she could never bring herself to snap at them. Deep down, she was still their Krishnae but that part of her was lost with Panchaali.
She lets out a cry, sharp and wordless, throat choked with a thousand different emotions.
They come to her, rushing to her side.
He will never come back to her.
"Don't—" she whispers, emotions a frenzied storm in her.
"Krishnaa please—we can't see you like this—" Nakula pleads.
"Leave. Please."
"Dhrishta wouldn't want to see you like this, Krishnae.." Sahadeva murmurs.
But they respect her wishes—they always have, even when they don't want to—and leave her.
The sky is perfectly blue; the wind is soothing; the people go about their lives and the world spins on; but Krishnaa presses the back of her hand to her mouth as she weeps alone, shoulders shaking, wondering if she'll ever be able to look at her youngest two husbands without feeling the hollow emptiness of her twin's absence beside her again.
(She never will.)

He was the king of anga, not kuru, but it is weird
I think you've posted about this before but I can't find it so, why exactly doesn't Arjuna have the King trait? That goes double for Junao. Normally i'd just chalk it up to them being lackadaisical about traits but the King trait is one of the few they seem to be relatively thorough about.
Because arjuna isn’t a king, he’s a prince! Yudhisthira does at one point after the kurukhestra war try and renounce his own claim to the throne out of guilt in his role in getting his kin killed and asks Arjuna to rule in his stead, but this doesn’t actually ever come to pass. Arjuna’s grandson does actually end up being the one to inherit the throne eventually, but arjuna himself never rules.
I have heard that in some folk versions of the Mahabharata that he does rule some random smaller kingdom but I couldn’t find much on it with just a quick google, and I don’t think it’s the version that fgo is primarily pulling from for his character set up.
As for arjuna alter…I don’t know? I would assume it’s probably because arjuna isn’t one, and from what i can tell, assuming the wiki is right, being a lostbelt king doesn’t necessarily make you automatically eligible for the king trait as kukulkan doesn’t have it either (and weirdly enough, neither does Zeus during his boss fight, who’s literally the king of the gods, but if anything that just shows they don’t automatically put it on every lostbelt king

facts about cannibalism — i have weird hyperfixations, i know.
Tumblr media
what's cannibalism? cannibalism is the act of one individual of a species consuming all or part of another individual of the same species as food. cannibalism exists in the animal kingdom and rarely among humans for various reasons, ranging from survival to ritualistic practices.
the first type is defined as eating members of another group (conquered enemies, for example) and the second one, the eating of members of your own group, usually associated with ritual burial ceremonies.
cannibalism has been documented throughout human history, with one of the earliest recorded instances being the Gough’s Cave in England, where human bones from approximately 15,000 years ago showed signs of cannibalistic practices.
in certain cultures, cannibalism was performed as a ritualistic act, believed to transfer the strength or spirit of the consumed to the eater.
the Fore people of Papua New Guinea practiced transumption, a form of cannibalism, until the late 20th century, which led to the spread of the fatal prion disease kuru.
throughout history, there have been numerous accounts of cannibalism for survival. sailors lost at sea, explorers in uncharted territories, and victims of sieges and famines have resorted to consuming human flesh.
the case of the Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571, which crashed in the Andes in 1972, is a well-documented instance where survivors ate the deceased to stay alive.
many cultures have myths and folklore featuring cannibalistic giants or monsters, such as the Wendigo in Algonquian folklore, which is said to embody both the act of cannibalism and the insatiable greed that leads to it.
cannibalism has been a recurring theme in literature and film, often used to explore themes of survival, horror, or the breakdown of societal norms. movies like "The Silence of the Lambs" and books like "Hannibal" by Thomas Harris have brought cannibalism into popular culture.
cannibalism is illegal in most countries, though the act itself is not explicitly mentioned in the law; rather, it is often prosecuted under laws against murder, desecration of corpses, or assault.
in medical science, the transplantation of human organs and tissues can be seen as a form of cannibalism, though it is, of course, conducted for life-saving purposes and with consent.
research into prion diseases like kuru has provided valuable insights into neurodegenerative diseases and the risks associated with consuming human neural tissue.
with advances in lab-grown meats and other synthetic food technologies, some speculate about the ethical implications of creating human flesh for consumption without the need for death or harm.
cannibalism can cause severe psychological effects, including trauma, PTSD, guilt, shame, dissociation, social isolation, and stigmatization. it can deeply impact identity and self-perception, particularly when conflicting with cultural or religious beliefs. survival cannibalism may lead to survival guilt, while instances involving psychopathy can reflect broader antisocial behaviors. long-term mental health issues like depression and anxiety are also common. thw psychological impact varies based on individual resilience and circumstances.
climate change could potentially increase instances of cannibalism in the animal kingdom as resources become scarcer and species are forced into closer quarters or new territories.
there have been rare instances of self-cannibalism, known as autophagy, where individuals consume parts of their own bodies, often as a result of mental illness or extreme starvation.
cannibalism is studied in various academic fields, including anthropology, psychology, and biology, to understand its historical, cultural, and biological aspects.
educational discussions about cannibalism can challenge students to think critically about ethical issues, human behavior, and the diversity of cultural practices around the world.
cannibalism, a topic as old as humanity, spans across cultures and continents, revealing both dark and fascinating aspects of human history. Whether driven by necessity, ritual, or psychological compulsion, the act of consuming human flesh highlights social and ethical issues.
thanks for reading :)

15/11/24
Went to the Ravi river with my gf and two of her friends. We were late because had to get breakfast and got lost in a very narrow dirt road that ended up at a dead end. Gf gifted me a sweater of hers that luckily looked amazing on me.
We parked near an unnamed shrine hidden behind some thick shrubbery. Her colleagues were really nice and I never felt like a tag along. We were warned about the presence of robbers beyond the river bank which gave me an opportunity to flex how I am friends with certain families connected with the underworld that seems to mar all the rivers of our Punjab. Spotted hatched snake eggs and alot of mushrooms. The fog added to the mystique of the experience and a member of our party who (apparently) had not been out much was genuinely on the verge of attaining moksha. Got scolded for offering my jacket to gf's friend when her fingers were swelling from the cold.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Met a cowherd who offered to protect us with his life and his friend who proudly told us how he had only ever loved one woman and had never remarried after God took her. When told that we were feeling refreshed out here in the open by the river side the cowherd said ,"We came from this earth and when we die we shall have to return to it". It is an extremely disorienting experience to hear a Punjabi pastoralist in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan echo the Quran when it says, "We have created you from the earth, into it We shall return you and from it We shall bring you back to life once again." [Quran 20:55] Which itself parallels the teachings expounded by the so called "Jahwist" whose words are preserved in Genesis saying "By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return." [Gen 3:19]
A tapestry of history strung together by God like pearls in a necklace.
The guy in the group kept telling my gf to stop using colonial concepts like "occupation" , "property" and "earning money" we would only later realise it was his dead pan attempt at humour. He also told us straight faced that if any of them died he would not hold himself responsible which made me glad that I joined.
We got spooked by some people from the opposite bank who were offering refreshments and by 2 men on a bike who were driving around in reference to the warnings given to us. Saw a shivering puppy and tried to comfort it as best as I could, lamented the fact that I had only packed crisps.
Kept reminiscing on the fact that the banks of the river Ravi is where King Sudas faced off the tribal coalition in the Battle of the Dasarajya. The First event in Indian History. A battle insignificant in the scale of things of probably one of the single most consequential battles in our ancient history. A war between a disciple and guru that laid the foundations of vedic society, the kuru kingdom and the lens through which all subsequent indic dynasties would look at themselves through.
This is the same river where my ancestors would have stood, bronze sword in hand, blood coursing through their veins, their lungs hurting as they could taste the blood in their mouth. Staring their enemy in the eyes as they frantically grabbed at one another, stabbing, skewering and slashing. Being stabbed, skewered and slashed. Bodies crushed under chariot wheels, mothers losing their sons, wives losing husband, terrifying beasts of war charging as Indra was invoked with every breath. Alhamdulillah. I have learned to own my ancestor's hindu jahiliyyah* as my own.
Tumblr media
Afterwards we all went to have lunch at a "dhaaba". Told them about how me and gf met over good reads and then email before I finally got her number. Had a very refreshing conversation which oscillated between alpha males, astrology, Dune, Sociology, LOTR, Harry Potter and Islamic Waqf Law. Would love to accompany them again.
Brought gf home and we had her shoes cleaned, she attended online classes and I prepared for my send up exams. Afterwards dropped her off at her university and I wanted to stay up to study but fell asleep.
*Arabic word for The Ignorance traditionally used for pre Islamic Arabia but can be used to refer to the pre Islamic past of any entity.

mahabharata fix it headcanon (kind of??)
Man, sometimes I wish to read a funny, crack-y retelling of the Mahabharat. Of Pandavas and Kauravas having more or less a friendly, playful rivalry than the blood feud they have in the canon. Of Karna being the mediator between the cousins if things got a little too heated. Of Abhimanyu, Ghatotkach and other Upapandavas being spoilt rotten by their 100 uncles and Lakshman Kumar and other Kaurava children having study sessions with Yudhishthir and Sahadev, going on adventures with Bheem and Arjun.
Yudhisthir would be the King of Indraprastha and Duryodhan, the King of Hastinapur and the Kuru empire stretches from Gandhar in the north-west to Anga in the north-east, with two stronghold capitals to keep it secure instead of just one. Karna, despite being offered to be crowned the King of either kingdom, chooses to let his younger sibling and cousin take over, being content in his small, prosperous territory of Anga.
Kunti and Gandhari would both be mother figures for both sets of cousins, acting as advisors in the family. Bhishma, ever the guardian of his large family and Vidur, the maverick politician, retain their roles but have relaxed responsibilities as the kingdom (and the household) is at peace.
Dhritarashtra and Shakuni would have some skirmishes between them, classic brother-in-law tussle but for the most part would be harmless. The former king sits at the advisory board of Hastinapur while Shakuni is properly coronated the king of Gandhar, to keep him from meddling in the internal matters of the crown.
The Queens, Draupadi and Bhanumati would be great friends with respect and affection for each other. Being in charge of not just the palace but also crucial departments (finance for Draupadi, public welfare for Bhanumati) of their respective kingdoms. Draupadi acting more or less as an older sister to all of her fellow co-queens, but she has very special affection for Subhadra. It's no wonder Panchali loves her, as she's Krishna and Arjun's darling too.
The Rakshabhandhan at the Hastinapur palace is nothing short of an annual grandiose event. There are friendly bets amongst all the brothers on who can get their dearest sister/cousin the best gift. Of course, Dusshala loves her brothers and cousins too much (though Duryodhan and Nakul-Sahadev are secretly her favourites) to actually give a ranking of the gifts, so the contest remains at a draw for year after year.
Karna chooses to stay at Hastinapur, when Indraprastha should've been a rather obvious choice. Not that he doesn't like spending time with his siblings, but he just has a closer bond with his cousins. Not to mention there's a whole other reason he spends more of his free time at Hastinapur. The Pandavas are well aware of his affection for Duryodhan and tease him endlessly about it, just as the Kauravas tease their eldest for being so enamored by the Pandav-jesth.
Arjun is Karna's favourite sibling (ha, I did say this was a crack-y au) just because of the sheer similarities they have. They help each other to hone their archery skills, with Karna teaching Arjun secret techniques he learnt from his time with Parshuram. Arjun admires Karna and the way he is the amalgamation of all the qualities that the rest of the pandavas possess individually. They also bond closer due to the both of them being gay and Karna acting as a support system for Arjun as he comes to terms with his feelings for men, and Krishna in particular.
Krishna is the Kurus' biggest ally obviously. His relationship with Kauravas is more understated, but there is a mutual respect and admiration there. The Pandavas are his dearest obviously, some of them a LOT dearer than others AHEM but yeah, you get what I mean.
Obviously, they would still have family drama, what Indian household doesn't? But at the end of the day, they all apologise and make up and live happily ever after.

Life Lessons from Mahabharat
That life isn’t fair to anyone
Karna was neglected the moment he was born from his birth right. He was humiliated because of the status he was adopted into, despite being a Prince. He told this to Krishna who replied by reminding him how his uncle was wanting to kill him before his life even begin, how he was separated from his parents the moment he was born. Everybody in life has challenges, and we can’t escape it.
Having a lot of everything can be dangerous
Gandhari had 100 sons, but being blind-folded she not only captured herself from the outer world, but also prevented herself from the upbringing of her children. She wanted more then she could handle. Draupadi possessed immense beauty, reason why men lusted for her. Draupadi wished for an husband that had wisdom and moral values, will be strong and well built, a good archer, handsome and intelligent. Not found in one man, she was granted 5 husbands that all individually possessed these qualities, all who failed to protect her from her humiliation in the dice game.
Revenge isn’t always the answer
Shakuni revenged to destroy Hastinapur, in answer to his sister’s marriage to a blind man. His revenge was a astronomical reason for Mahabharat. At the end he died, and left his sister childless. Drupada sought for revenge on Drona when the later attacked him with the help of Kuru Princes and snatched half of his Kingdom. He performed a Great Sacrifice to obtain a son who could slay Drona and a Daughter who could enter Kuru Clan - He lost his sons in the great war and met death in the hands of Drona.
Half Knowledge is more dangerous
Arjuna's son Abhimanyu teaches us how half-knowledge can have an adverse impact. While Abhimanyu knew how to enter the Chkaravyuh, he did not know the way out.
Loyal Friends can take you places
The Pandavas had Lord Krishna, and the Kauravas had Karna. Both of them always backed the two parties, no matter what. In fact, Duryodhan was really weak without Karna.
You cannot be stopped if you are passionate about what you do.
Eklavya was even better than Arjun. He hid himself behind the trees and grasped everything that Drona taught Arjun. His passion for archery and hunger for knowledge made him good at archery then Arjun.
Perhaps the biggest I learnt was: It’s all about how we shape our life, it’s our choices that shape us into becoming the best or worst version of ourself.

As a branch of the Leaf Kingdom’s armed forces, Home Guard is typically tasked with domestic affairs and persevering the kingdom’s national forests. While this branch contains some armed soldiers, the branch is made up mostly of non-combatants like game wardens and rangers. Personnel of the Home Guard is sometimes colloquially referred to as a Leshies or Pheasants.
Uniforms can vary quite a bit from region to region. The branch tends to be a bit looser with their restrictions, allowing a variety of wearing options depending on the local materials and culture. Since leaf-wing culture prohibits the killing of plants, most uniforms are made either of animal materials or from previously dead plants. Proximity to civilians and commercial sectors is another influence on what one might wear, as it’s not unusual for personnel to purchase and donn locally made attire. As much as high command tries to enforce a standard camo palate, some dragons just can’t resist the temptations of pretty colors.
(The names of these two dragons are Kuru and Pangolin!Hopefully the design of these characters somewhat match their namesakes, and show their personality a bit. I'm still a bit iffy on the names of Home Guard and Leshy, coming up with a naming convention is fairly hard.
Feel free to leave any suggestions or ask questions and such. Criticism is appreciated as well. Cross posted on Deviantart.)

I went to the Animal kingdom today and rode the Flight of Passage ride for the first time ever, and I had a very emotional experience while doing so.
I am now very aware that I am very familiar with human culture and at times almost admire their effeciency, but I think went around the same as the sarentu where they leave the humans and only associate with those who are in harmony with pandora so to speak. I made a bond with an orange and yellow Ikran, with black and gray kuru. I think her spots were a very almost black blue or purple.
The ride was so much fun, and they had pads and such on the machine to make it feel like you were sitting on the ikran and you could feel it *breathing*
It was an almost overwhelming moment
So freaking happy :D

Discover the Top 5 Stories of Raksha Bandhan
Tumblr media
Raksha Bandhan is one of the most auspicious festivals celebrated in Hinduism. The people of India wait eagerly for the festival to celebrate the bond of brother and sister. This August 19th, India will celebrate the bond of siblings with great pomp and grandeur. However, Hindu people came to know about this ever-glorious day dedicated to naughty people, famously known as brothers and sisters in Hinduism. We at Vedic Story have discovered some incredible tales that explain the origin of Raksha Bandhan. Let’s unearth together!
1. The Story of Shubh, Labh, and Goddess Santoshi
Lord Ganesha was thrilled and waited for the arrival of Goddess Manasa to celebrate Raksha Bandhan together.
Manasa Devi reached Kailash, and Ganesha was welcomed happily. Ganesha sat on a mat, and Manasa, the daughter of Lord Shiva, tied a colorful thread to Ganesha’s wrist.
Seeing this happiness, Shubh and Labh wanted to feel the same as their father, Ganesha. However, they didn’t have any sisters to feel the love and bond of brother and sister.
Shubh and Labh were angry with the fact that they had no younger sister who could shower such pure love on them.
On the other hand, Ganesha came to know about his son’s anger and fury with him. Ganesha asked his sons if they should stop sulking with him for this reason. Shubh and Labh did not agree with their father and began to beg for a sister. They wanted to experience the happiness and feeling of being loved and participate in Raksha Bandhan as their father.
2. The Birth of Goddess Santoshi, Sister of Shubh Labh
After considering the facts and experiencing the need for a daughter in Kailash, Ganesha was convinced.
He created the goddess Santoshi. Thus, Shubh and Labh became brothers, and Ganesha became the father of a daughter. Thereafter, the brothers enjoyed Rakhi with their sister when she tied a colorful, eye-catching thread to their wrists.
3. The Story of Krishna and Draupadi
Krishna and Draupadi are the most prominent characters in the epic Mahabharata. Krishna always called Draupadi his friend and suggested doing whatever she considered good for her and her dharma. Their friendship was famous in the entire Aryavrat region.
However, one such incident happened that became a turning point in Drapadi’s life.
Once, Krishna visited Indraprastha to attend the Yagna of Yuthishthir. They were enjoying an afternoon one day. Krishna, Arjun, and Draupadi were flying kites. Suddenly, a thread cut Krishna’s finger. Blood was flowing. Draupadi saw and felt the pain of her friend and immediately tore her sari to bandage his wound.
Krishna felt love and gratitude for having such a caring friend. He promised to repay her in some way in his life.
The Great Insult of Draupadi at Kuru Kingdom
Duryodhan planned to insult Draupadi for insulting him while he was in Indraprastha. He invited the Pandavas and Draupadi and defeated them all in the game of chess. Duryodhan ordered Dushashan to naked Draupadi at the court of the Kuru Kingdom.
Krishna was at war, but he knew that his friend was in pain and needed her. He rescued Draupadi from being naked with the sari; she bandaged Krishna’s finger miraculously.
Mahabharata, the War of Kurukshetra
To avenge the insult of Draupadi, Pandavas hoisted the Mahabharata with Kuru Rasthra and the sons of Dhritrastra.
Draupadi tied Rakhi to Krishna’s wrist before they went for the great Mahabharata war.
Kunti also tied a thread of protection (Rakhi) to her grandson, Abhimanyu.
4. Yudhishthir tied Rakhi to the Pandavas
King Yudhisthir tied Rakhi to his young Pandava brother’s wrists as per the advice of Krishna to protect them from the impending doom.
Krishna advised Yudhishthir to perform puja on the full moon of the Shravan month and tie a thread to his brother’s hand for protection.
5. Yamuna tied Rakhi to Yama, the God of Death
According to another ancient legend, Yamuna wanted Yama, the God of Death, to visit her, as he had visited her for a long time. Yama visited Yamuna on Raksha Bandhan. Yamuna was happy to see her brother and performed puja, offering him sweet and great hospitality. Yama gave her the precious gift of a promise to protect her forever. He also declared that any brother who receives a Rakhi from his sister will be blessed with immortality.
Therefore, the story of Rakha Bandhan is not only sacred, but it is also a powerful bond of protection and love between the siblings.

Note
what if karna grew up as a pandav, the exceptional crown prince of the kuru kingdom. how would've duryodhan handled his jealousy/admiration towards karna. maybe if they grew up together as close friends, duri would've never been manipulated into conspiring against his cousins?
So this is gonna be speculation rather than fiction because if Vasusen grew up an acknowledged/adopted son of Pandu then the whole tussle over the throne either
does not happen
is initiated by Dhritarashtr
because the thing is, right, that Bhim & Duryodhan are the same age, give or take a month, and they're both at least a year younger than Yudhishtir (and poss. Yuyutsu) because well biology and also we know Kunti birthing an heir for Pandu is the instigating event for Gandhari beating the proto-Kaurava lump out of her womb. What we don't know is the gap between Yudhishtir and Vasusen, but I'm gonna say minimum 3 & more likely 5 years (because Pritha is canonically very young to have a child, and marriages are either of adult women [Draupadi, Subhadra, Rukmini, Kunti herself] or with both parties being very young [Uttara & Abhimanyu]) which makes the gap between Vasusen and Duryodhan minimum 4 and very likely 6-7 years.
That's... that's a big gap to be friends across when it's not balanced out (as in canon) with power-disparity. It's certainly not an impassable gap, and I can absolutely see Duryodhan being his big cousin's mini-me and/or adoring follower at least in his childhood/adolescence. But what it does mean is that, as Yudhishtir is canonically 16(-ish) when Pandu dies and they go (back) to Hastinapur, Vasusen would (re-)enter palace politics at 19-21. Still not fully grown by standards for men at the time (25 marking the transition from brahmacarya to garhasta iirc) but certainly a player, especially considering he'd be backed by his mother and possibly Vidur and Bhishm. He'll be the Young King in 6 (max) or even just 4 years, at which juncture Duryodhan will still be considered a child, at most an youth apprenticed to great masters: years away from assuming the responsibilities and privileges of adulthood.
Given that, there are very paltry grounds for contesting the throne left to Duryodhan: his father was disqualified for rule; his cousin is significantly older; if multiple types of fatherhood are not allowed they might as well give the kingdom over to the Bahlika line. Regardless of any personal admiration/resentment, there's nothing he can do via covert action. Or even open hostilities, really. Vasusen will probably have at least one child before the rest of them are even considered marriageable. Those are fairly overwhelming odds.
On the other hand, if Dhritarashtr faces up to his own hunger for the throne, he can just... block his nephews from ever returning after his brother's death. It would earn him a great deal of disapproval, not least from all the sages & mendicants accompanying the Pandavas, but he doesn't have to care about that, not really. The danger would lie in attacks from Madr and the Yadavas, if they bestir themselves for their nephews but IDK enough about the political situation there at the time to hazard an opinion.

Everybody Is Dead...!
In the Metal Fight Beyblade verse, Rago is capable via Diablo Nemesis of absorbing the power of his opponent and gaining their abilities. He can also gain the abilities and power of everyone that opponent has fought from the beginning to the present.
Despite this, Pluto states that Nemesis has the power of every bey in the world by the time he and Rago do battle with the Legendary Bladers and company. It opens the door to a potential trickle down effect that would go on and on. It makes Rago's main ability one of the most horrifying in any verse.
This got me thinking about another potential trickle down that could be applied to another overpowered deity. This one being of light rather than destruction. Galeem. Due to the incredible amount of crossovers and cameos that can be traced via some path to someone within the Super Smash Bros verse, there's a disturbing amount of verses that are almost certainly reduced to non-existence alongside everyone that ever existed within that verse by the Lord of Light and it's "Everybody Is Dead" attack. That isn't counting restoring the verses back into existence and shuffling them while everyone in them become mindless slaves. Even the verses with stages, Mii outfits and music have potential to be completely screwed. A scenario like this would represent the absolute highest limit of Galeem's power...

Cave Story [via Shovel Knight]
Five Night's At Freddy's [via Shovel Knight]
Enter The Gungeon [via Super Meat Boy]
The Binding of Isaac [via Super Meat Boy]
