Kuroko assumed that Yusuke treating humans like food supply and casually talking to Hokushin (who eats humans) makes Yusuke more demon than human. But the thing is, Yusuke as a human also had questionable morals. Kurama let a kid die and human Yusuke shrugged it off.

Yusuke was like "oh I hope Kurama is okay". Like bro a kid was manipulated and sacrificed. Could you act guilty at least? He also killed the human doctor and was like "damn, got no choice tho". He will save a kid from the street or from an Oni but also shrug off the child who died because they were trying to save the world.

Yusuke's morality is consistent whether he's human or demon. And by that I mean he doesn't always try to do the right thing even as he's also aligned with more good than evil. Togashi's protagonists cannot be boxed into what's typically expected from heroic main characters.

Two things I love about this:

1. Botan looks and acts younger but has been working longer in the role of Ferry Guardian.

2. The author is a goddamn troll. Togashi-sama had a good enough sense of humour that his wife, Takeuchi-sensei, enjoys his company 24/7 for the most part.

Was rewatching bits and pieces from the Teiko arc again and got to the scene where Akashi talks to Kuroko post-switch. It gets to the part where Kuroko tells Akashi that the team changed when Akashi changed, and Akashi replies with something I didn't think about too hard in the past, which was "This again?"

...Just how many times had Akashi already heard from Kuroko since he switched that the team changing/falling apart was his fault? Akashi didn't even sound hurt when he replied, he just sounded like he was tired of having to repeatedly explain his POV. He must have been blamed so often that he became desensitized to it after a point.

I think if he lost to Murasakibara, the GoM's friendship would have shattered either way because the cracks were already beginning to show. Murasakibara stopped listening to Akashi, Aomine already wasn't coming to practice and stopped coordinating with Kuroko during games, and the others were kinda just watching everything go down so I think that would have stayed the same. But rather than the story focusing on "everything changed since you changed, Akashi," it would simply not focus so heavily on the fact that Akashi switched.

I think Akashi would have taken a massive blow to both his pride and his self-esteem in having lost to a one-on-one that he initiated and also losing control of the team he was trusted by Nijimura to hold together. Maybe the breakdown that happened in the final round of the Winter Cup would have happened sooner in Teiko. Basically, he gets completely thrown off his rhythm, nobody is listening to him, he holds no authority, and the team lacks harmony. This may or may not lead him to hate basketball entirely because he no longer feels happy having to keep up in order to hold onto the one hobby he cares about. Either that, or as he slowly loses control of the team, maybe his father catches wind and tries to make him quit since the whole shtick with Masaomi (in the anime anyway) was that Akashi was only allowed to keep playing if he kept winning. So it really could go either way, but there's no good ending that come out of it, imo.

In short, I think the team would have fallen apart regardless, in a much less intense way than a personality switch, but still equally as heartbreaking. It's just sad to think about the idea that no matter what Akashi did, the team would have likely grown apart anyway. But that also just means that there really is nothing Akashi could have done. Yet he's been putting all the blame on himself for not being able to prevent the inevitable, which is just really fucked up because he was a literal child who should have never been burdened with the responsibility of keeping the team together. It should have been the adults who stepped up and kept everyone in line, but as we all know, the adults were only interested in the prestige the GoM brought to Teiko.

Thinking about these "what if?" scenarios really just highlights the fact that all of this could have been resolved if the adults at Teiko had just done their job. Leaving a bunch of kids to try and save each other despite needing saving themselves is a cowardly move and FUCK Sanada for all the things he did to contribute to this.

I have a question for all the KnB lovers out there

What do you think would have happened if Akashi didnt switch? If he lost to Murasakibara?

What would that mean for the GoM? For Akashi?

The reliable Yusuke's senior!

Basic Data

She served as the first spirit detective. She retired after her marriage, and lives with her family deep in the mountains. Her maiden name is Sanada. She is an adult woman with a relaxed mood. At Genkai's recommendation, she becomes an advisor to Yusuke, who was unsure about going to the Demon World. At first, she is found of Yusuke, but feels uneasy about his words and actions, and eventually prompts him to go to the Demon World.

I feel like one of the main reasons why some people don't understand akashi is the difference between the manga and anime.A lot of akashi's expressions and lines which are so crucial to understanding his character are removed or altered in the anime and I have no clue why.

Let's take akashi vs. Murasakibara for example.

In the manga its basically thrown in our faces that losing is something that akashi is not allowed to do. His "because otherwise" line specifically tells us that there are consequences if he ever loses. And we know that, to him, those consequences are losing everything he fought so hard to be deserving for(basketball, his friends, his fathers acceptance etc.)

So we're basically told that he's afraid of losing from the get go, right before the rakuzan vs seirin match.

However in the anime, rather than someone who's scared of losing akashi sounds like he's in disbelief that someone 'absolute' like him could lose. It sounds way more..arrogant(if that's the word I should use here). Besides we know that oresei never said or even believed that he was absolute so I don't know where the line even came from.

And of course in terms of expressions we have these scenes which don't really require too much explanation other than the fact that it takes away all of akashi's(most heartbreaking I would say) expressions that give insight into him as a character and person. (We talked about this before but it's important here so I'll bring it up again)

In the same scene because akashi's initial expression was changed, we miss the very important fact that before akashi was angry, he was hurt. So instead of realising that akashi was first and foremost upset because his friend turned on him and disregared his position as captain, we only understand that he's angry because he was disobeyed(which he was but it was so much more than that)

(Actually maybe I'm one of the only people who looks at the expressions so deeply idk.)

So now for the scene where sanada announces that shirogane collapsed, its already been talked about but to summarise, it replaces the horror in akashi's face with indifference and that's probably played into people's perception of akashi as a person who cares very little about people.

And honestly what's crazy is that his expression was lowkey given to kuroko???? Its not the same expression but we see kuroko look dejected because of the news. I don't understand what the thought behind this decision was but it is what it is.

(Honestly it feels like they're trying to emphasize on kuroko here???while sacrificing characterization of other characters????maybe i don't really know)

So yeah the anime did akashi so dirty and we end up with a large number of people who miss out on so many things that contribute to our understanding of him which lead to mass mischaracterization of one of the most complex characters(If not the most) in the series.

I do think that Haizaki is another victim of Teiko, and Nijimura, the only one who understood him, ended up leaving, so Haizaki really had no support system at home or at school. However, I would say that Haizaki getting kicked out of the club was inevitable the way he was going. You don't come to practice or games unless someone beats your ass and physically drags you into the gymnasium? It sucks, but getting kicked out is just a consequence of his actions. Didn't help that he was showing no remorse on top of it.

HOWEVER, this is an instance where the coach should have stepped up. A big issue with Teiko is that none of the adults on the basketball team ever did their fucking jobs. They should be the ones addressing Haizaki about his behavior, trying to turn him around, and making the executive decision to remove him if he doesn't improve. Instead, they left it to a 14 y/o kid, which shows just how hands-off they were the whole time, even when things were going well. A lot of the problems the team had would have been mitigated or even prevented if the adults in the series intervened. But they let these kids do what they wanted, and that's why everything was so messy and chaotic. And then Sanada stopped taking action against people skipping because he didn't want to lose Aomine since he was so strong, which then led to Murasakibara questioning the point of coming to practice. Mind you, Akashi predicted that this exact problem would happen if Haizaki was still allowed to play in games even after skipping practice.

Speaking of Akashi, yes, his other side was peeking out whenever he would talk about Haizaki, so yes, he was being victory-brained while making these choices. But then, when you remember that he's victory-brained because of his shitty upbringing and also because his father is only letting him play basketball as long as he wins (according to the anime, anyway), you can see why he makes these decisions with little regard to other alternatives. While thinking about the morale of the team, he is also protecting his own interests, which goes back to his other self being that protector for the original Akashi.

So, do I think removing Haizaki from the team was fair? Yes. Akashi didn't appreciate Sanada letting Aomine skip either. He was literally just trying to keep team morale up without resorting to bending the rules. You can argue that it was more convenient for Akashi to kick Haizaki out instead of talking to him and getting to the root of his problem, however, I still think that should have been the adult's job. Most, if not all that happened in Teiko could have been avoided if the dirty work wasn't left up to literal children, but that's just me.

I’m like you—fascinated by the side characters, wanting to see more of them when I can, convinced Togashi hid some extremely interesting characters in the ranks of the secondary cast and eager to see them brought into the light. LC is a huge treat for me because I get to do just that in really fun and interesting ways (to me, at least) and the fact that you enjoy those exercises in gleeful “OMG how can I dissect Kaito/Amanuma/Kuroko/Shizuru/Ayame today??” is just marvelous. 

I’ve talked before about how I’m a little embarrassed by LC’s length, and sometimes I even wonder if I should cut back on the interactions with side characters to make my writing more concise… but for me the point of LC is to really dig deep and explore the world in ways I normally don’t get to, so I’m content to spend more words than perhaps I should on our beloved side characters. “Screw the length; let’s dig in and see what we find!” says I. Thanks for making that decision even easier, my good good buddy, and thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to write your Asks. YA ROCK, PAL. END OF STORY. :P

On God. When I first watched this series when I was like 15/16 and saw how fucked up everyone turned out from Teiko, at first, I was trying to find whose fault it was among the GoM that they ended up falling out. But now that I'm almost 25? Yeahhhh. The real villains of Kuroko no Basket are the higher-ups at the school as well as some of the parents.

You took these talented kids who loved basketball and just wanted to keep playing with each other, and you destroyed their mental health simply because their back-to-back victories brought prestige to your school? It was one thing for the principal to say this, but for Sanada to go along with it and then wring his hands when the inevitable happened and these literal children were left to deal with the fallout of the team and their friendship all by themselves? So much could have been prevented if these adults just came together and did what adults are supposed to do: BE RESPONSIBLE.

All of them suffered, but Aomine, Kuroko, and Akashi had it the worst out of the whole group. Aomine stopped coming to practice, Kuroko stopped coming to not only practice but school as well, and Akashi had a literal mental breakdown and began dissociating for a full year up until he graduated (and then he continued to dissociate until the end of his first year of high school!) Did they not have a school counselor? How do you witness these kids have drastic and concerning changes in their behavior, and your first thought is somehow not to throw all of that victory bullshit to the wind and get them some help?

After Nijimura graduated and coach Shirogane fell ill, the GoM + Kuroko had no mentor figures and no emotional support whatsoever. Yes, they were monsters at basketball, but none of the adults in any of these scenarios saw them or treated them as what they were, vulnerable hurting kids. I will never forgive any of the adults at Teiko for how they handled the basketball team. Everything that happened in that school could have been 100% preventable had they not been so focused on making the school look good.
