Kronprinz Rudolfs letzte Liebe (1956) [Crownprince Rudolf's Last Love]

Honestly, I was really not looking forward to watching this one because I think I was just getting tired of seeing the same story executed in a similar way for these Rudolf-films, but I actually ended up liking it a lot. I mean, it is very much that same story again, but idk, it was interesting and I felt like there was a bit more going on than usual

Like, I feel like this film focused a bit more on the things outside of Rudolf and Mary's relationship, and the relationship itself was pretty good too, I thought it was well-written. This was also probably the portrayal of their relationship that made me the least uncomfortable so far, which, I know its never not going to be uncomfortable, but here I never felt like he was just taking advantage of her, so that was nice i guess. I will say though, I didnt really like how much more 'romanticised' it felt, if thats the right way of phrasing it. I think its because Rudolf's suicidal ideation specifically was a lot more overt in this film from the start, and then it kinda goes away once he's with Mary (and then comes back full force when she has to leave for a winter) and I feel like its being presented as her "making him healthy again" with her presence when its like, no buddy, that's just his mental illness manifesting in a new and exciting way

Other than that, I dont really have a whole lot to say about it. The performances were all good, it was nice seeing Lil Dagover play Elisabeth again and I actually really loved Christiane Hörbiger as Mary, I think she did a good job playing this ingenue character that felt authentically youthful without coming across as too immature. The pacing was fine, although I did notice that the first half seemed to go by much quicker than the second half. My one big criticism is the fact that visually, this whole film looked like those reenactments you see in documentaries. Im not even exactly sure why, I think it might be the colorgrading, it all looked very washed out but not really in a purposeful way.

So yeah, in conclusion, its a good film all around but there arent a whole lot of stand-out moments that I feel the need to talk about

do you have any photos of Sisi or Franz with Valerie in any sisi shows?

The three modern Sisi series (Sisi (2009), Sisi (2021) and The Empress) never reached or haven't yet reached the point where Valerie is even born. The only portrayal of Valerie I can quickly think of is in Corsage (2022). For anything from that, just check the tag Archduchess Marie Valerie of Austria on my blog. If I haven't posted it there, I don't have it.

Although I think she was also in Kronprinz Rudolfs letzte Liebe (2006) aka The Crown Prince but I'm not 100% sure. IMDb names Valerie, Valerie as a child and Valerie's fiancé as roles. The two parts are on Youtube in German, so skip through it and maybe you can find the scenes. I haven't watched the movie in years and my memory is very faulty of it. Google wasn't helpful with pictures either.

!! In a way, yes, I agree - I think the book haul and aesthetic bookshelf mentalities are really bad, incl. for environmental reasons, and more people should prioritise non-physical books, library books, etc. Not making your reading hobby mainly about building a bookshelf makes it a lot more fun, affordable, varied, and liberating - you're not bogged down by your collection and don't have to go through too much trouble if your tastes change, or if you move, etc.

BUT, a counterpoint. I rarely buy books, and when I do it's usually because they're old, rare, out of print, not in the library system, not accessible in my country, etc. So when I do get them - especially when getting a physical book is the only way I can read it at all - I treat them with extreme care. I'm not going to dog-ear my 1932 Kronprinz Rudolfs Letzte Liebe because the only reason I can read it today (cost 5 euros btw) is because previous generations of readers were so so careful with it!! I think caring about the physical object is not always about consumerism or object fetishism, sometimes it's a genuine archivist mentality - you have to take care of those special books, especially if they're your favourites, to be able to enjoy them and not lose them forever. (This is a bit of a special case, but I think it relates to the original point of the post haha)

most annoying trait from what i see as a millenial book girlie culture is "love of books" not as love of reading but as adoration for the physical object. an e-book, a library book or an audiobook don't have the same value because you can't display them forever for others to see. full shelves of unread titles are a symbol of status. annotating your own books is a crime. using old books in art projects like collages is guaranteed to earn you "as a reader this pains me" comments. i love buying a beautiful edition as much as anyone else but man the consumption mentality here is tiresome

Wolfgang Böck (* 14. Januar 1953 in Linz) ist ein österreichischer Schauspieler und Theaterintendant.

1983 spielte Wolfgang Böck am Wiener Volkstheater, später folgten Rollen in der Schweiz, am Schauspielhaus Zürich, wie Mortimer Brewster in Arsen und Spitzenhäubchen und im Renaissancetheater Berlin, wie den 'Der Konzentrationslager-Erhardt' in Noch ist Polen nicht verloren. Weiters brillierte er in Alexis Sorbas im Grazer Opernhaus, bei den Salzburger Festspielen gab er den 'Lorenz' in Der Bauer als Millionär und 'Guter Gesell' im Jedermann, später in Wien am Theater in der Josefstadt spielte er den 'Steißhäuptl' in Der Himbeerpflücker. Gemeinsam mit seinem Kollegen Adi Hirschal konzipierte er eine musikalische „Reise durch die Wiener Vorstadt“: „Strizzilieder“, „Oide Hawara“ und „Schwoazze Luft – Strizzihimmelfahrt“ wurden auch auf CD herausgebracht.

Der Linzer Schauspieler wirkte auch in zahlreichen Film- und Fernsehrollen mit, wie in Der Nachbar, Kommissar Rex, Die Neue – Eine Frau mit Kaliber, Julia – Eine ungewöhnliche Frau, weiters in verschiedenen Folgen von Tatort u. v. a.

Österreichweit bekannt wurde er vor allem durch seine Mitwirkung im Kaisermühlen Blues. Hier war er als der Wiener Polizist Trautmann zu sehen, dem Lebensgefährten der Hauptdarstellerin Gitti Schimek (Marianne Mendt). Als ebendieser Trautmannstand Wolfgang Böck im Frühjahr 2000 vor der Kamera im Krimipilotfilm Trautmann – Wer heikel ist, bleibt übrig (Regie Harald Sicheritz). In der Zwischenzeit entstanden noch weitere 9 Trautmann-Krimis unter der Regie von Thomas Roth.

Für seine bisherige Darstellung des Inspektor Trautmann wurde Böck – gemeinsam mit dem Autor von Kaisermühlen Blues und Trautmann Ernst Hinterberger – im Dezember 2001 von der Vereinigung der Bundeskriminalbeamten Österreichs zum „Ehrenkiberer“ ernannt.

Schloss-Spiele Kobersdorf

Im Oktober 2003 wurde ihm die künstlerische Leitung der burgenländischen Schloss-Spiele Kobersdorf übertragen. Bereits in der ersten Saison konnte der langjährige Besucherschnitt von 9000 verdoppelt werden: Intendant Böck war in dem Nestroystück Lumpazivagabundus als Schuster Knieriem zu sehen, 2005 folgte das Ferenc Molnár-Stück „Liliom“ mit ihm in der Titelrolle.

Im Herbst 2004 stand er für die zehnteilige ORF-Produktion 11er Haus vor der Kamera, einer Komödienserie die 2005 zum Thema „50 Jahre Fernsehen“ ausgestrahlt werden sollte. Von Jänner bis Mitte Februar 2005 wurde in Prag und Kärnten der Lisa Film Die Liebe eines Priesters gedreht, in dem Böck den zwielichtigen Unterwelt-Boss Pokorny, den Besitzer eines Edelbordells, spielte. Regie führte Franz Josef Gottlieb. In dem Film, der auf ORF und ARD am 19. Mai 2005 ausgestrahlt wurde, spielte Erol Sander einen Priesterseminaristen und Maximilian Schell einen Pater. Ab März 2005 drehte Wolfgang Böck zwei weitere „Trautmann“-Filme.

Böck über seinen „Trautmann“: „Er ist mir ans Herz gewachsen. Es ist eine interessante Figur, die mir große Popularität verschafft hat.“ (Zitat Kronen Zeitung, 19. November 2006) Im November 2006 stand Böck in der zweiteiligen Komödie Slupetzky vor der Kamera. In der MR-Film-Serie Blaulicht, die der Autor Peter Mazzuchelli schreibt (Julia, Medicopter 117 – Jedes Leben zählt) soll er einen Rettungsarzt spielen. Laut Böck wäre dies sein erster richtiger Arzt. Als Rettungsfahrer hätte er allerdings weitreichende praktische Erfahrung, da er in Bregenz im Zivildienst als Rettungsfahrer unterwegs gewesen sei. Seit 2007 sind Wolfgang Böck und Adi Hirschal mit dem Wienerliedprogramm Best of Strizzi immer wieder auf diversen Bühnen zu erleben.

Weiters wurde Wolfgang Böck mehrmals für Gastrollen in der österreichischen Serie Schnell ermittelt engagiert und spielte in Deutschland im Kinofilm Unter dir die Stadtmit, der im Banker-Milieu angesiedelt ist.[3]

2009 war Wolfgang Böck mit Gabriela Benesch in ihrem gemeinsamen Kabarett-Programm All You Need Is Love!? auf Tournee, 2010 stand er mit Brigitte Neumeistermit dem Programm Aus dem Reich der Burenwurst auf der Bühne der Ybbsiade – Kabarett- und Kleinkunstfestival in Ybbs an der Donau.

Anlässlich seines vierzigjährigen Bühnenjubiläums 2014 entstand das Konzertprogramm boeck.privat@habtsmigern.ade unter der musikalischen Leitung von Andreas Radovan mit Texten von Klaus Lintschinger. Wolfgang Böck & Band treten damit österreichweit auf.

Seit 2004 ist Wolfgang Böck Intendant der Schlossspiele Kobersdorf. Er setzte zum Einstand  Lumpazivagabundus von Johann Nestroy auf den Theaterzettel.

Es folgten 2005 Liliom von Ferenc Molnár, 2006 Brechts Die Dreigroschenoper und 2007 George Feydeaus Floh im Ohr. Die Schloss-Spiele Kobersdorf erreichten 2008 mit dem Nestroy-Stück Zu ebener Erde und erster Stock eine Auslastung von 98 %. Zum Joseph Haydn-Jahr 2009 erwies sich das Auftragswerk Der Kopf des Joseph Haydnvon Michael Korth mit der Uraufführung am Montag, den 6. Juli 2009 als würdiger Beitrag. Es folgten 2010 Ein Sommernachtstraum von William Shakespeare, zum 40-jährigen Jubiläum der Schloss-Spiele Kobersdorf Der eingebildete Kranke von Molière 2011 mit Fritz Hammel in der Hauptrolle und 2012 die Shakespeare-Komödie Was ihr wollt. Im zehnten Jahr seiner Intendanz setzte Wolfgang Böck die Komödie Die Dame vom Maxim von Georges Feydeau (Deutsch von Hans Weigel) in der Inszenierung von Patrick Guinand auf den Spielplan.

2016 wurde Böcks Vertrag als künstlerischer Leiter der Schloss-Spiele Kobersdorf um weitere fünf Jahre bis 2021 verlängert. 2017 ist er als Richter Adam in Der zerbrochne Krug von Heinrich von Kleist in der Regie von Werner Prinz zu sehen.

Seit 1987 ist der begeisterte Motorradfahrer Böck freier Schauspieler und lebt mit seiner Frau, der burgenländischen Architektin Sonja Kremsner, die er 2002 ehelichte, teils in Wien, teils im Burgenland. 1990 wurde sein Sohn geboren. Böck hat ein Faible für Oldtimer.

Wolfgang Böck ist Sprecher der Stationsansagen auf den Wiener Autobuslinien 92A und 92B, deren Routen durch Kaisermühlen führen.

Gemeinsam mit der Gesellschaft für MucoPolySaccharidosen (MPS) hat sich Wolfgang Böck in seiner Funktion als MPS-Botschafter zum Ziel gesetzt, diese Stoffwechselkrankheit in der Öffentlichkeit bekannt zu machen und für betroffene Kinder finanzielle Mittel zu lukrieren.

Hey! I've been obsessed with Elisabeth: das Musical for a good while and one of the things I really like about it is the way it comments on Sissi-media. However, Im saying that as someone who really only knows about that media through cultural osmosis and hasnt really seen any of it. And since I'm gonna have a bunch of free time the next few weeks, I thought it would be interesting to watch all* the media about Elisabeth I can get my hands on and review it and just talk about my thoughts on it. I'm also gonna watch all* the Rudolf media I can find as part of this little project because, I might as well

*by 'all media' I mostly mean stuff like movies, series and stageplays, obviously I know there's books but I'm not really in a place where I can focus on reading a bunch of stuff, but I know that the trilogy is based on books, and if I can find free audiobooks online I'll listen to those

I also want to give a quick disclaimer that I'm not a history person, I know very little about all this, so I'm not gonna get too much into the historical accuracy of any of these pieces. I mean, maybe this whole thing will get me to do research into the actual history, I actually have been wanting to do that more since Ive started engaging with the Elisabeth das Musical fandom and seen all these people talk about how much reasearch they do for fanfics and stuff, and its making me feel a little left out ngl, but I struggle with actually doing that for reasons I dont really want to get into. Long story short, if I dont approach historical topics very carefully Im gonna end up with horrible intrusive thoughts that last for days, and I'd like to avoid that but I need to figure out how to do that first.

Its getting kinda late (by my standards) but I cant stop thinking about the way Stephanie gets protrayed in Rudolf media, specifically thinking about Kronprinz Rudolf letzte Liebe (1956) and Rudolf: Affaire Mayerling because those are really the only pieces of Rudolf-media Ive seen so far that actually feature her a little, which I thought was kinda weird watching my first few films, like that was his wife, how come she's barely in these, but then I was like "well, if their marriage was bad, then I guess they wouldnt spend all that much time together if they could avoid it" so whatever

Anyway, so what I find weird about Stephanie is that she gets so villainized for..... being bitter towards her husband who keeps publicly cheating on her? Not wanting to get a divorce when theyre both royalty and that would be an incredibly huge deal, nevermind the fact that it doesnt even seem like a decision she can really make ?? Like, I dont know late 19th century austrian divorce laws, I only know what these movies show me and what show they me is, Rudolf sending a letter to the pope requesting a divorce, the pope not only denying the request but also snitching to his dad who calls him over to be like "are you INSANE. what were you THINKING trying to get a divorce without my permission", which leads me to believe that even if she did agree to Rudolf's divorce suggestion instead of insisting that she'll never divorce him, they would not have been allowed to do that without imperial and papal approval, so why is this her fault

And granted, she might be portrayed this way because she sucked irl, I wouldnt know because Im not really a history person so feel free to educate me on that, but idk. as it stands, it smells a little like misogyny to me. But even more than that, it smells like people in the 20th century inexplicably seeming to have completely forgotten that marriages being loveless and transactional/for a specific purpose that has nothing to do with romantic love was extremely common in the past, especially amongst the aristocracy. I feel like all these movies are being like "oh nooooo T-T look at this poor man who cant be with the woman he loves because he's stuck with this bitter bag that doesnt even love him" meanwhile Im just like buddyyyyyyyy, if you were a noblemen in the 1800s they (the parents) used to just pick out a random cousin you've met twice for you to marry and you would just have to live what that, who caresssssss
