Whumptober Day Fourteen: Water Inhalation
TW: Kidnapping, head injury, pneumonia
When he came to his head pounded and nausea came in unrelenting waves. The ground underneath him shuddered and his mind struggled to find the reason.
An earth bender? No. A car. Mako forced his eyes open and tried to make sense of his surroundings and whenever the nausea got to be too much he closed them again.
“This one passed out again.” He felt a nudge against his leg.
“He’s no good to us if he dies. Ming-Hua, any chance you can heal him?” A gravelly voice filtered through.
“Do I look like I can heal him?” The voice was sharp and it triggered something for Mako.
The fight. Bolin and him were so clearly outmatched and yet they fought. He opened his eyes and looked for his brother. Right next to him lay Bolin whose chest rose and fell in shuddering breaths.
Well that wasnt good. He’d seen this before on the streets, pneumonia. Bolin had been left with the water and earth bender after she had taken him out.
“Bolin?” He tried to get his brother’s attention but he didn’t stir. When he tried to move he found that his hands and legs were bound. That and he hurt everywhere.
He lifted his head to look at his captors despite the pounding headache. “Bolin needs help.”
The water bender, Ming-Hua, just laughed. “So?”
Another voice, Zaheer struck fear in Mako spoke up. “Ming-Hua. If we are to give these two to the Earth Queen don’t you think they should at least arrive alert and not at death’s door?”
He couldn’t see Ming-Hua’s reaction but he could hear her scoff but he could see Bolin shudder for a moment before a small trail of water escaped his lips. Instantly his breathing became clearer.
Mako wouldn’t thank the Red Lotus out loud but he could feel a small amount of relief bubbling beneath the surface. He shut his eyes again as his head throbbed again and he was dangerously close to vomiting. At least his brother was alright for the moment, that was all that mattered.

summary: korra always has her way so when reader tries to be sneaky, korra can't help but have her fun
warnings: established relationship, restraint kink, cursing, fingering (r! receiving), little slap, use of words "cunt, pussy, mound", spitting, slight degradation, praise, some after care.
a/n: im high and this is my first fic/ oneshot so expect errors. i wrote this entirely for myself so you dont have to like it, just dont be mean
"please just this once korra!" you breathlessly laugh. muffled snickers are heard above you, one hand gripping your arm, the other gripping your thigh. making your failed attempt at trying to kick away from her.
every time korra wants to play games, she has to win. if it's go fish, she has already won 3 times now. mario kart? forget it, she's yelling in your face like a prepubescent boy who is playing with his friends by saying "LET'S GOOOOOO".
korra does not let up and she makes sure you know that. though, this time you initiated it. walking out of your shared room, you see the back of korra's head sitting on the couch. the opened window causing the sun to pool inside the shared apartment, lighting up the side of her face.
''she's probably reading,' you thought to yourself as a sly smirk crept up on your face, seeing how her head was tilted downwards. you wanted to surprise her, to hear her scream like she always does to you when you have your back turned towards her, minding your sweet business. you continue to take a few steps toward her before you leap forward, tumbling and bringing the girl down with you.
“you little shit-” korra spits out, laughter hinting in her voice, immediately shifting to her knees before she flips you onto your back leading to where you are now. her book, wide open. crumpled pages right under her right knee as she fights you off.
“please! you never let me-” you get cut off as she’s already flipping you onto your tummy. strong thighs cage your own, her hands bringing your arms behind you, pining them onto your back. your left cheek smushed onto the carpet floor. the woman above breathing rapidly, staring down at your defeat.
“now, why would you think that would've worked?” she pants, tilting her head in amusement to peek at your adorable squished face. all you can do is focus on how her hips are grounded onto you. you can't help but shift your hips as if your body is reacting to this familiar feeling.
“it's my turn to win now,” you grumbled, trying to annunciate the words as your face was being mushed into the ground. korra tightens her grip on your arms, pressing her upper body down onto your back, lips going towards your right ear.
"so why aren't you trying to get me off?" she whispers so softly that your whole body shudders. she traced the shell of your ear with her lips. she couldn't help but smile as she felt your hips below hers grinding back into her hips.
"stop being dirty you-" you get those words out before you feel her body shift upwards. she uses her other arm now to pull your lower body half up, getting you in an arch and a nice view of how your shorts are scrunched up between the space where your thigh and crotch meet.
"im being dirty? you started rubbing your ass on me! did that seriously turn you on?" korra teases, playing with the elastic band on your shorts. she picks it up and snaps it back in place. "how much do you want to bet that you're wet right now?"
you aren't going to bet because you are wet. as soon as she gripped your arms in one hand behind your back, your body submitted. you groaned, trying to shuffle away from her fingers teasing you. she rubs her hand right over your left ass cheek, before pulling your shorts down. the soft material pooling at your mid-thigh, feeling the chilled air on your exposed slit. you gasp, inhaling sharply as you feel her middle and ring finger collecting the slick between your folds.
"fuck.." she says softly under her breath, rubbing the slick between her fingers. you’re just whining and squirming, trying to chase back at the feeling of her fingers on your cunt.
"korra.." a small whine escapes your now swollen lips, caused by you trying to hide your arousal as if it wasn't clear between your thighs. you hear her amused chuckle, her hand going back to dipping into your wetness. she rubs her fingers soothingly, making sure to put enough pressure when she reaches your clit.
"hmm, babe? what were you gonna say?" she asks, making eye contact with your sweet watering eyes. she can't help but flash you a little smile as she continues to rub at your clit. you on the other hand are trying to keep your eyes open, threatening to roll them back as she applies delicious pressure on your cunt.
"mm korra please.." tilting your head a bit more so you can get a good look at how sexy she looks above you. her hair that fell out of her ponytail perfectly framing her face, a flushed pink decorates her cheeks, and you see how her eyes are drooping with desire. before you can even register what's going to happen, you barely see her hand moving maybe 5 inches away from your pussy, swiftly spanking your mound. a shudder erupts from your body, causing a gasp to a moan leaving your mouth.
"use your words, tell me what you want baby." she quickly cups your cunt as a way to apologize and soothe your pussy from the previous slap. her voice is like music to your ears, a hot sensation in your tummy. your head already feeling fuzzy, trying to think of your response.
" fill me.. with mfmm.. your fingers, please korra," whining, going back to nibbling your bottom lip. korra groans, rubbing your puffy clit before she starts to fill you up with her index finger.
"goood girl. you're gonna let me fuck you, yeah?" she asks, a smile in her voice. you nod as your eyes flutter close, leaving your mouth agape so your whines and moans can be heard. korra continues to have that grip on your arms as she fucks you with her finger, going from slow to fast, to hooking and unhooking her finger to open you up for another. as she almost takes her index finger out of you, she slips her middle finger alongside her index.
"ahh! fuck yes korra," you moan out, shifting your legs as she adds a second finger into your sopping wet cunt. you can't help but get embarrassed as wet creamy sounds are filled into the living room. you hear the woman above you softly gasping as she cant rip her eyes away from your messy cunt, watching her fingers plunge in and out of you. your walls fluttering around her fingers, allowing yourself to feel complete mush. korra continues to fuck your pussy, her face coming towards your cunt. you feel a warm liquid sliding down your folds as it meets with her fingers, mixing with your arousal. you gasp as you realize what it is, immediately feeling your walls clench under korras fingers.
"fuck, are you gonna come baby? yeah? you dirty little minx, like when i spit in this pussy huh?" she says as her lips are right next to your ear. she nibbles on your lobe, smirking as she scissors her fingers inside you. you choke up. you feel the band in your stomach about to snap and you just want to feel korras lips on yours. you pry open your eyes and pout your lips, "yes korra mhm.. kiss me please im gonna cum."
korra swears under her breath, immediately connecting her lips to yours. speeding her fingers up as she feels your walls tighten around her fingers. the girl moans in your mouth with you, letting you take whatever you need as you feel your orgasm starting to wash over you. all you can do is let out these high-pitched moans, korra nodding her head, signaling that you can come. her eyebrows furrowed, her wet muscle moving against yours in your mouth. she starts feeling your body give one last shudder before collapsing, letting the orgasm wash over you. she catches your body almost immediately as she feels you letting go, taking her fingers out and rubbing quick circles onto your swollen clit. you gasp so cutely that she just watches this orgasm taking over you and your senses. lil splashes of your slick hit the soft ground as she continues to help you ride out your orgasm. your body starts to pick a regular breathing pattern. korra lets go of your arms as they drop to your sides. your body feels completely blissed out, your mind blank as all you can do is just feel the soft rug under your bare half.
"i did not know you liked me restraining you like that," she laughed softly, kissing your cheek as she slowed her pace. you groan, moving away from her fingers as you feel it getting too much.
"oh shut upppp," you grumble, can't help but smile as you feel your body floating in its post-orgasm state. korra reaches down and takes a little bite of your shoulder.
"dont be embarrassed, it's cute." she says, giving a kiss to the little bite mark on your shoulder. rubbing your back, korra lets you lay as long as you need to recover from an intense orgasm, which will always be her favorite part.

Lin, groaning as Korra ends up pissing off another councilman: I do not know what to do about that girl, she’s making me lose my mind!
Tenzin, sighing tiredly: look, at this point all we can do is focus on making this right
Korra, slamming the door open: hey losers I’m going on a date with Asami, I’ll be back before midnight!
Lin: we are not done discussing your little spat with the councilman, young lady!
Tenzin: that’s right, you better stay here until we can sort out how to apologize to that man after you told him he has the brain of a jellyfish. JELLYFISH DO NOT HAVE BRAINS!
Korra: exactly, and neither does he! I’ll be more than happy to converse with you two after my date. LATER HATERS! *jumps out the nearest window and airbends away*
Lin, inhaling deeply: okay, how the hell did we manage to break up literal decades ago without having kids together, only to now end up coparenting a rebellious teenage girl that just so happens to be the damn Avatar?!
Tenzin, quite literally about to burst a blood vessel: I genuinely do not know

Avatar: The Legend of Korra
793 words
She knew he knew she was there when his head lifted a tiny amount. Lin wasn’t sure when she had first noticed it after he shaved his head for good. Since then, any time she tried to approach him quietly, it worked no better than trying to sneak up on her mother.
“Thank you for accepting my invitation, Lin.”
Spirits, his voice was as good as a hug.
She shook herself.
“Might not have been me, you know.”
She could picture the not-smile on his face. “I would have known.”
With an amused snort, she stepped out of her shoes and moved to join him on the small platform overlooking the ocean. She lowered herself into the lotus position and rested her hands on her knees.
They took a breath in unison, settling into the patterns they had developed so long ago.
“The earth below us provides stability,” he said.
“The air around us induces calm,” she replied.
“The sun above us instills energy,” Tenzin continued.
“The water inside us brings change,” Lin finished.
They turned their hands palm up, still breathing slowly.
Silently, they meditated, guided by the breezes and the faint sound of the water crashing on the rocks below. Lin allowed herself to remember their talks out here over the years. The times they had complained about their sisters and mothers. The times they had talked about what their parents were doing, and what it might feel like to step into those roles. To be in charge.
Now that they knew better, it was still nice to remember their original optimism.
The breeze shifted, and she let her thoughts follow the wind out over the cliff’s edge.
She cracked open one eye to take a peek at him, his face lit by the gradually setting sun. He appeared as serene and unperturbed as ever.
But she knew something was up when his next breath was deep and slow, rousing him from his meditation. He didn’t open his eyes, but she did, turning to watch him.
“Speaking of change.”
She blinked several times. His expression remained neutral, but as he opened his eyes, something about them felt…
Merry?
“Bumi had a fascinating conversation with Kya when she arrived last night. The fact that they included me when I arrived was remarkable.”
Lin’s heart dropped. She knew what this had to be about.
“It seems I’m not the only one who has been issuing invitations, of late.”
Much as she wanted to, she just couldn’t look away from him.
But as he turned his face to her, she felt only the warm companionship they had so painstakingly rebuilt over the years since Korra’s arrival in the city. His smile was small, but so very real. The way his face crinkled up at the corners, the way his relaxation showed in his shoulders.
Slowly, she felt the tremors approach from the direction of the house. They had a minute, maybe, before they’d be overheard.
But he beat her to the punch.
“Lin, we stayed up all night with her. She is nervous, but open. The last thing she said before she sent us out was, ‘If anything can happen, something good will come of it.’”
He inhaled and pushed himself straight up without his bending.
She looked back over the water, where the sun was just about to meet the horizon.
Just as she registered the blue that had to be Kya’s dress, her body rocked forward with a sudden weight between her shoulder blades.
With Kya shouting at the oldest one of them, Lin realized she was staring at both Bumi’s and Tenzin’s backsides as they jumped off the edge of the cliff to glide on their squirrel suits out over the ocean.
Kya settled with an aggrieved huff, muttering in mock irritation.
Still settled in the same position, Lin opened her hand again, this time, in invitation.
Kya took that hand, and they looked at each other.
Without smiling, they relaxed into each other’s presence, squeezing each other’s hand.
Lin stole a glance back out over the water. The boys were floating in lazy circles, side by side.
“I suppose they know that anything could happen out there,” Lin mused.
Kya snorted. “They can manage themselves. I don’t feel like rescuing them tonight.”
Lin tugged lightly on Kya’s hand, pulling her attention back to herself. Less gracefully than Tenzin, she pushed herself up to stand. With a sly smile, she said, “I’m sure they think anything could happen here on shore.”
She held her hand steady as Kya pulled herself up to her feet. “Is there any chance that those things could happen back at your place instead?’
Lin pulled Kya’s hand up for a kiss.
“I thought you’d never ask.”

Thank goodness for the Linzin mid-yeat revival. It's keeping me sane.
My nerd side loves the idea of future generations looking back into historical couples. Think on the literal compilation of Napoleon's love letters but make it Tenzin's, or the study of Queen Victoria's complete devotion to her husband but make Lin.
Idk, there's something about true love stories in historical power couples that seems so in tune with them.
This gives me reincarnation AU vibes!
A hundred years later, when a new Avatar helps bring balance to the world, a nonbending woman visits the museum with her nonbending boyfriend.
They've only started dating about a month, but the moment they first met, their hearts and souls were reunited. Even with one glance, all they felt was love, safety, peace, and home with each other. As if they had known each other their entire lives and had finally found the other.
An exhibit at the museum dedicated to all the Avatars and the important figures/mentors has opened to the public. The man has suggested they check it out and his girlfriend sighs and goes along with it.
They walk through the maze of chambers and rooms, recording videos of the holographs. One section boasts AI and the man scoffs at the idea of a respectable museum giving in to a dangerous technology. It's educational, but he has conflicting views on it.
Avatar Korra is the last room and somehow, the energy and vibes in this room are heavier compared to the others. The woman walks with her hands behind her back, viewing the photographs and reading the paragraphs about them. Then she sees the statue of Chief Lin Beifong standing beside Master Tenzin.
Her heart flutters as she stares at them in awe and fascination. She can't move, blink, or speak. There's something about the hardened and fierce expression on Chief Beifong's face that resonates for her. Beifong has the same green eyes as her and she can't tear her gaze away from the two scars. What could have caused that? Was it from her job? Was there an accident? What is it like to bend metal and earth?
Warm arms slide around her waist from behind. "You kinda look like her, Poppy."
She raises a brow and turns in his arms. "Is that a good thing?"
He smiles and kisses her cheek. "Yes. She's beautiful."
"Hmph."
"Not as beautiful as you, but she looks like you except with years of wisdom."
"Who's an earthbender, metalbender, and can kick ass."
Her boyfriend shrugged.
Poppy shook her head and shifted her attention to the airbending master. "You look like him."
"I wouldn't look good bald. And I don't like red."
"But you have the same eyes and light blue tattoos."
"Wow babe. Such a convincing comparison."
Poppy walked out of his arms, but grasped his hand gently pulled him to inspect the first airbending child of Avatar Aang. She studied the red, yellow, and orange robes. "Red is nice. It's the color for war, passion, fire."
He hummed unimpressed.
She wriggled her hand against his. "Come on, Lao. Entertain me."
Lao read the text detailing Master Tenzin's work and life. "They're exes...that's so sad." He pulled Poppy closer, wrapping his arm around her shoulder protectively. "I wonder why they didn't work out. They knew each other their whole lives and grew up together."
Poppy rested her head against his shoulder. "Sometimes things just happen," she muttered sadly. "Maybe they wanted different things. She didn't have any kids and he had kids right after they broke up."
Her boyfriend clicked his tongue, his hold on her tightening. "Probably to save the airbenders..." Lao inhaled deeply, wiping his eyes and shaking his head. "They came back anyway."
She hugged his waist, rubbing his side soothingly until the strange and sudden emotions passed. Lao gave her a soft smile. "You okay?"
"Mhm. Yeah, I'm fine because you're in my life."
She mirrored his smile and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. "I'm glad we're not famous and we can live the way we want."

Necrosis :)
read it on AO3 from the Whumptober2024 masterlist 700 words
Tenzin sat with his eyes downcast as Katara yet again inspected the tips of his fingers. The skin had turned black days ago, and he wasn’t completely ignorant of his situation. He knew the news was going to come eventually. The world’s greatest healer had raised him, after all.
Despite knowing it was hopeless, he was willing to keep up with the excessive healings for as long as his mother and sister would persist. Today though, the healing stopped and Katara started taking notes. Measuring. Murmuring to herself. He closed his eyes to fight back the threatening tears and wondered when the damage from the Red Lotus attack would stop. When would the loss and suffering end?
His chest constricted as the weight of the long-forgotten moniker pressed down on him so hard that he forgot to breathe for a minute.
The Last Airbender.
Not entirely true, he reminded himself. There were plenty of harmonic convergence airbenders who wanted nothing to do with the Air Nation.
How strange to not be the last of his element, but to be the last of a culture, of a way of life.
Why hadn’t they left him in the temple? He would have preferred to feel his flesh melt from his skin, have his eyes evaporate from his skull, feel his bones crack and pop like hot coals instead of being forced to survive. He would have gladly remained there as the entire mountain melted down to nothing but a sickening resemblance of a waxy candle burned down to the very base.
His children, his wife, the new airbenders, Korra and her friends, the Northern Air Temple, the entire avatar cycle were all gone because of him.
Technically, he even managed to get his father killed a second time as Aang's spirit no longer lived on inside the avatar.
“Remember to breathe, son.”
Though it hurt to be alive, he took the breath.
The fight replayed in his head for the millionth time. Maybe if he hadn’t tried to avoid Ming-Hua’s attack, or if he had turned the other way and seen P’Li’s combustion blast… Maybe if had inhaled instead of exhaled, jumped higher, hit harder, ran faster, done more he wouldn’t have been incapacitated and maybe Zaheer wouldn’t have put him in chains that were too tight and left him to rot in a second location.
“I’m sorry, Tenzin, but we’re going to have to remove the dead tissue. There’s nothing my healing can do for it now.”
Tenzin finally opened his eyes and looked at his hands. Everything from the tip of each digit down to the middle knuckle was black. He wiggled them and felt nothing. His toes were the same. A tear slipped down his cheek into his beard. He lost everything else, he might as well lose this too. Katara’s steady hand lifted his chin and a tear slipped from his other eye.
“Everything is going to be okay.”
He was quiet for a moment as her words worked their way through his pain-addled mind. Not for the first time since everything happened, he wondered if the lack of blood flow affected his brain as well.
Tears rolled down his face faster as he stared at her blankly. His mouth opened and he thought he would finally scream, finally express the rage that had been building inside, but the shaking exhales that started off as quiet sobs quickly devolved into pathetic gasps for air.
The sound coming from his mouth still sounded like crying, but he knew it was laughter. Everything is going to be okay. The words broke what fragment of sanity he had been holding onto and pulverized it into grains of sand that slipped through his necrotized fingers. He laughed while tears streamed down his face, he just couldn’t stop.
Everything is going to be okay.
Everyone he loved was gone, Air Nation culture would die with him, the fate of the world rested in no one’s hands now because of him and certainly nothing important would ever rest in his hands ever again. Nothing was okay.
Tenzin laughed like a madman as the final precious threads of sanity slipped away. He lost everything, even his fingers and toes, it only seemed appropriate that he lose his mind as well.

One word: calm
Tenzin is plagued by concerns while meditating.
"Breathing in calm, breathing out peace. Calm..." He inhales. "Peace..." And exhales. Calm... Peace... Dad. They're not stilling.

Bolin laughed along with her as she pointed out his habitual spontaneity. "I know you're trying to be nice, but my dad's side of the family is big enough that they'll always have someone open to receiving guests, no matter when we drop by — especially since they've got lots of space to entertain at the Sato Estate. You know Grandma Yin always has a pitcher of her cherry-berry lemonade ready!" He again laughed for a bit before his face turned a little more serious.
"Buuuut, unfortunately ever since my dad left Ba Sing Se, he had only ever sent one letter home. Grandma showed it to me and Mako the first time we met her and from what I saw, he only mentioned that Mom was from the Fire Nation, so... there won't be any leads there." Bolin took in a deep inhale before sighing loudly. "Basically out of everyone in the whole world that I know of, Mako knows the most about her, only because he knew her two years longer than I did." He breathed a huff of a laugh to add some levity to the topic.
"But let's see... so we've got the possible locations for one-or-multiple-trips-around-the-world of Omashu," he started counting off on his fingers. "The Spirit World... which we should probably ask Korra and Asami about recommendations. Uh... Just saying the 'Fire Nation' seems pretty, like, vague since it's a WHOLE nation. Zaofu so we can visit your folks and bros... Hmm..." The earthbender hummed in thought. "Did you wanna visit your grandma too? I bet Korra could give us directions to where she's been living."
ㅤㅤ❝𝓞h, the spirit world can be on the table!❞ Opal said happily, having not really thought about that being an option that they could explore. Now that the doors to both worlds were open for a handful of years, Opal had yet to venture into the spirit world. She had spent much time protecting the Republic City portal, but going into it was something that was unfamiliar to the Beifong. ❝If we don't do all these in one go, we can always take multiple trips throughout our next ventures.❞ She offered. ❝But Omashu would be unique to visit. I've been there a couple times briefly but didn't go too far into the city. Just delivery stuff.❞ She said with a small pout. ❝As for the fire nation, I think that is a must for you. It would be really nice to see where you come from. And maybe your grandma could give you more information about your mother's family... It might be a little much meeting up with them so suddenly. But not doing things in stride is kind of your go-to.❞ Opal added with a laugh.

“On again, off again, love you like oxygen”
whumptober 2022 // Lin Beifong x Reader
cw : implied self-harm
i got into watching legend of korra at the beginning of this year because of lin (only while watching it did i realise i’ve seen some of it on nickelodeon lol) and believe it or not i’ve been raking my brain for ideas of a good lin x reader ever since, but it has not been quite successful. however i got this little thing out for whumptober and having been inspired by it, i might write a longer piece for it when i’m feeling particularly in the mood
I have held my breath in a pool before, but this is nothing like that.
This is akin to plucking a thin, dainty silver betwixt a thumb and a forefinger, and willing my hand that seems to have a mind of its own not to gravitate towards the already messy canvas.
Of course, when has the body ever known to comply with the boring old brain when the ever arresting heart is right there?
After all, romantics tend to value insanity over sanity.
And just as it is out of my control that my hand decides to help the edge of a silver draw scarlet onto my skin, my nose will inhale, and my lungs will absorb regardless of what my brain tells them to do, or rather, what not to do.
In this battle that the heart has started so foolishly itself, it becomes the defeated.
The outcome is not so much a bombshell as a disappointment, I conclude, because in the end, what I want does not matter.
It is always what is supposed to be.
But alas, the water enveloping me is not a beautiful cerulean blue.
The water rushing into my lungs is a breathtaking emerald green.
She has stubbornness for a heart, and gentleness for hands.
She soothes the stings, writes poetry on the empty canvas of my soul, and breathes warmness into my ice cold lips.
Believe it or not. Being smothered in her embrace, even at the expense of having my breath taken away from me, does not feel suffocating.
It feels safe.
She drenches me in loving glances, swaddles me in words secretly shared, and finally, finally when I am least expecting, asphyxiate me with heartbroken eyes.
I will say; it is a slow, painful death.
“Do you take Lin Beifong to have and to hold from this day forward, to love and to cherish her, in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health, forsaking all others for as long as you shall live?”
“I do, I do, I do, oh I do!”
Except that it is not her name caressing my ears, leaving a trail of colourful flowers in its wake.
It is red hot tar seeping through the pores of my skin, eating away at my flesh and bones, until it tarnishes my lungs at which point will have long been shrivelled and sucked dry of air.
“Do you take this man to be your husband, to love him, to cherish him, to…”
Anytime now, I will be turning into sea foam, nothing more than flesh and bones ready to decay in the depressing currents.
“I am not yours and you are certainly not mine.”
Her words from last night echoes.
And as I stare beyond the man in front of me and intensely into the deepest depths of those greenest eyes, I utter with resolute conviction.
“I do.”
Perhaps in another world, another universe, another dimension, I will get to live life as Lin’s instead of a walking shell of a person who is simply not Lin’s.
#whumptober2022#no.5#running out of air#legend of korra#lin beifong#lin beifong x reader#lin x reader#character x reader#fanfic#fic#ficlet#sh implied#i took drowning in lin’s eyes way too seriously#pleaseee chief is so hella hot 😮💨

Established Kyalin #5: Visiting Gaoling
Ooh lovely! Thank you for the request!
The estate stood tall before them, imposing yet familiar, stern, yet welcoming. Lin got out of the car, stretching her arms over her head. "Well, we're here," she said, casting a glance out over the grounds with a critical eye.
"Wow," Kya said, slamming the car door. "What a place."
"I spent summers here as a kid. Su and I both did. They tried their best to turn us both into little debutantes." Lin smirked. "It only really took with Su."
"Your sister does love her superfluous pageantry."
"It's all I can do to keep her from throwing a gala every time I'm in town. I barely escaped with my life, last time."
"I'll have to come with you next time."
Lin raised an eyebrow. "You can, if you want. It's very Su." She took their bags from the back seat, heading up towards the front door. The lock was platinum, and had been much longer than they'd been commercially available. Her mother's metalbending had been a trial for Poppy and Lao, even after she returned from the war.
"I didn't think you'd want me to go with you."
"It's been a year, I doubt we can keep it quiet much longer. Especially now that your family knows. And Korra. Frankly, I'd be surprised if Su didn't know already."
"She would have been on the first flight to Republic City."
Lin snorted. "You greatly overestimate Su's concern for my life. It more or less ends at Zaofu's city limits." The door opened into a grand hall, and it still smelled like cedar and earth. She inhaled it, setting the bags on the floor. "In fact, Su knows I'm using this place for a few weeks, she's bound to suspect something."
"Why would she suspect something? It's half yours."
"I don't take many vacations."
"Not yet, maybe," Kya said, locking the door behind them, wrapping her arms around Lin's neck. "I have my designs on you, Lin Beifong."
"Oh yeah? And what are those?"
"Taking time off more often, for one thing. Retirement, eventually."
Lin grimaced, twisting out of her grasp. "Let's not get ahead of ourselves, I'm hardly old enough to be put out to pasture."
"Alright, alright," Kya relented. "Take me on a tour, then." She looked up at the rafters, and her eyes followed the sparkling dust particles as they drifted past the stained glass window. "It's a far cry from the Air Temples, that's for sure."
"The Beifongs weren't exactly known for their air nomadic ideologies," Lin replied with a smirk. "The first room up the stairs on the right was mine in the summers. It's been refurbished now, the whole place has. Su's doing, of course."
"Of course," Kya said, rolling her eyes. "I wouldn't expect anything less." She climbed the stairs, running her hands over the polished wood bannister.
At the landing, Lin bent the door open, revealing a beautifully redone room, with classy green paint and stained glass accents in the windows, sending beams of verdant light cresting across the bedspread. "I have to admit, sometimes Su has good taste, when she's not too busy being ostentatious."
Kya sat on the single bed, running her fingertips over the wrought iron headboard. "It's strange to imagine you here as a child."
"Why strange?"
"We were always intertwined as kids, all of us, but this was so separate from the rest of us."
"No different than Izumi," Lin replied. "Or when you'd go down to the Southern Water Tribe with your mother for festivals."
"I guess not."
"Anyway, it doesn't matter, does it? That was a lifetime ago. We're here now, together." Lin stepped back from the doorway, nodding across the corridor that looked out over the ground floor. "The one on the other end was Su's room."
"This place is enormous, I can barely wrap my head around it."
Lin shifted uncomfortably. "We don't have to stay, if you--"
"What? Don't be ridiculous, of course we're staying." Kya draped herself across the bed dramatically, lifting an eyebrow. "I want to see how the other half lives."
"What do you want to see?"
"The gardens."
"Alright." Lin led the way down into the spacious kitchen and out the back door, leading out into impeccably landscaped gardens, only gently overgrown. "Su left the gardens intact, mostly. They were my grandfather's favorite part of this place."
Kya sat at the edge of the fountain, bending water in and out of the stream. "Have you ever thought about living here?"
"I have. It's a lot of house for two people, though."
"Are you automatically including me in hypotheticals about your future?" Kya asked, shooting a jet of water at Lin.
"Yes," Lin replied, sidestepping the water. "You're just going to have to get over that."
"I'm over it."
A gentle breeze rustled through the willows, and Lin breathed deep. "It's good to be back here. It feels right. Being here with you feels right."
Kya shaded her eyes from the bright overhead sun, leaning back on the marble of the fountain. "Took us long enough, you know."
"Better late than never, isn't that what your mother said?"
"Something like that."
"You look like a lizard, sunning yourself like that." Lin crossed the granite paving stones, sitting next to Kya on the fountain. She lifted her chin, letting the sun drench her skin.
"Lizards don't wear clothes, Lin."
"I know what you're goading me into, and the answer is no."
Kya rested her chin on Lin's shoulder, her lips brushing against her neck. "You said no one else would be here the entire time, not even the gardeners."
"It's just us."
"Have some fun, Beifong."
Lin turned her head, kissing Kya. "You're a bad influence."
"Good. you need a bad influence."
Send me KyaLin requests from this post!

“Are we there yet?” Asami lazily groaned.
Korra peeked an eye open which drifted over to Asami, and let out a chuckle.
“You know, every time you ask that it’s like taking a step backwards.”
“What do you mean?”
Korra opened both of her eyes and hummed in thought. “Well, I guess in your terms maybe like turning the clutch when you have to go.”
She clicked her tongue. “Korra, that’s not even how cars work. The clutch is supposed to…”
“Okay, enough. You're missing my point,” Korra quickly interrupted and turned to face Asami.
“You asking if we're ‘there yet’ is you being more concerned over the destination rather than the journey. ‘Getting there’ is the process and point of mediation: being able to let your mind and body go.”
She furrowed her eyebrows. “That makes zero sense. How is anyone not supposed to think about anything?”
“Well I’m not surprised you’re struggling at that point. Your big brain is always on overdrive thinking about all your inventions like the smarty pants you are.”
Asami raised her eyebrows and huffed a laugh.
“Here, lemme try something.”
“Okayyy,” Asami said skeptically. “I feel like you’re going to do something to me, though.”
“Oh come on! Can’t do this without some trust. Did you wanna learn how to meditate or not?”
A long exhale through red lips. “Fine, okay. I’ll trust you.”
A small smile. “Thank you.”
“Anyways, here’s what I'm going to have you do. First copy my position and close your eyes.”
Asami obliged.
“Great now, think about everything that’s on your mind. All the fear, guilt, shame, grief, lies, illusions, and also what you love. Concentrate them into singular points.”
A heavy breath. Taking over as Future Industries CEO, losing her mother, not feeling good enough, her father’s betrayal, her father’s secrets, all of her friends and family found along the way…
Korra noticed the furrow in Asami's eyebrows, believing in her focus.
“Okay, have all the points you’ve taken into singular points and let them fall through your fingers like grains of sand.”
A long inhale through the nose then exhale through the mouth. At each point she did as Korra instructed. And each time she felt her body get lighter as if it was floating and getting washed over by calming sea waves.
Suddenly brought on as a CEO.
The death of her mother.
Feeling inadequate.
Her father’s betrayal and lies.
They all drifted away
And it was at the last one, did Asami take a breath and finally let go, feeling her head completely submerge under the sea.
Asami's approach to meditation: Are we there yet?
#Korra can be a good teacher sometimes#I really be doing this instead of my 2-3 wips I wanna finish before the end of June#ok cool#maybe I’ll be productive#But not today!#ficlet

The smell of cooking meat, made Korra's mouth water.
"Hmm, I love it when your mum comes to visit" Korra smiled dreamily up at her taller girlfriend.
Asami just giggled and wrapped her arm around Korra's shoulders, she kissed her temple and whispered, "my mum loves to cook for anyone who appreciates her hard work".
"Where I come from, the cook is always appreciated" Korra said cheerfully as she started to hurry through their home, and into the kitchen.
- - - - - -
Korra hurried over to her girlfriend's mother and hopped up onto the next free space of countertop.
"Mmmm, smells great Mrs S" Korra said as she inhaled extravagantly.
Yasuko laughed happily, "I'm glad you think so Korra dear, Asami's always telling me how much you like your food, I can finally see whether it's true or not".
Korra nodded her head happily. "Ow, definitely. My foster mum pema, is an amazing cook, I definitely learn my appreciation for food from her".
- - - - - -
Korra moaned her approval, with her mouth full of Yasuko's delicious roast.
"Ow sweet Raava. This is amazing Mrs S".
Asami smiled at her girlfriend, then looked at her mother, "Korra's right Mum, this is amazing".
"I'm glad girls, now, what are you two planning on doing today"? She asked as she took Korra's finished plate and getting her second helpings.
"Asami's taking me into town" Korra pipped up as she sat up, eagerly awaiting her roast beef.
"Oh? What shops"? Yasuko asked, stroking Asami's hair.
"THE TOY SHOP"! Korra squealed excitedly bouncing slightly where she sat.
Yasuko and Asami smiled endulgently at the younger woman.
- - - - - -
"Come on Sami .... let's gooooooo"! Korra yelled as she unclasped their hands as she ran off into the busy toy shop.
Asami giggled as she patiently followed her hyper girlfriend.
- - - - - -
"Woooow, Sami look, they've got the new remote control SatoTruck you've been working on, this is sooooooo cool" Korra said happily as she continued to pull Asami around the shop.
- - - - - -
"So, we've been round this whole shop, do you know what you might like"? Asami asked her patiently.
Korra shook her head glumly.
"What's wrong Sweetheart"?
"I can't decide which one I want the most" Korra pouted.
Asami hummed, she rested their foreheads together and whispered, "well it's a good job there's no toy limit on this trip huh"?
"Really? You mean it"? Korra squealed excitedly.
"You betch'a. Now go on, go pick" Asami said.
She smiled as Korra sprinted off with their trolley, as happy as a kid in a .... well.... a toy shop.
- - - - - -
The house was filled with the sounds of childish giggles.
Asami has never seen her girlfriend so happy.
"Sami"? Korra asked anxiously as she approached the relaxing Sato women.
"What's up Baby"?
"My PlatypusBear's broken" Korra pouted, handing over the interactive toy.
"What's wrong with it"? Asami asked as she examined the action figure.
"The voice controlled feature stop working" Korra huffed as she dropped unceremoniously onto her girlfriend's lap.
Giggling Asami hugged her from behind, "how am I supposed to fix your toy if you're sitting on my lap"?
"Your a genius right? Figure it out" Korra teased.
Asami rolled her eyes and set to work.
- - - - - -
"PlatypusBear, dance" Asami commanded.
The toy's eyes glowed as it broke into a brake dancing routine.
"Yayyyy" Korra squealed.
She jumped to her feet and started to dance along with the toy.
"She adores you" Yasuko said, smiling at her daughter.
"The feeling's mutual" Asami smiled.
"Well you know, when you're ready, I have your Grandma's ring".
"Thanks Mum" Asami smiled as they snuggled up together on the sofa.
- - - - - -
A year later.
"Korra. Baby. You make me so happy, and I want to make you happy for the rest of our lives". Asami knelt infront of her tearful girlfriend. "Korra Waters..... will you marry me"?
She revealed a small box, showing the other girl an exquisite engagement ring, set with the largest sapphire Korra has ever seen.
"Yes" she whispered through her tears. "Yes Sami, of course I'll marry you".
"I love you baby" Asami whispered into korra's ear, before kissing her softly on the lips.
..... and they lived happily ever after ......

bolin x afab reader
a/n: reader and their brother are born and raised water tribe people so they will be described with brown/dark skin and hair. other than that all other characteristics are up for your own imagination. and despite reader being afab, their pronouns are they/them. this takes place after season 2, i won't be following the plot of season three to a t but some aspects (such as kai and zaheer) but majority of the plot will be of my own creation.
edit: thank you @wheredreaminggetsdrastic for helping with the title <3
“what is this all about?!” tenzin grumbled, sitting down on one of the cushions aligning the kitchen table. “i’m supposed to be training the new recruits in ten minutes.”
korra rolled her eyes at the older man, placing her hands on her hips. “well this is just as important as training air nomads. raava’s been telling me that there’s been a recent shift in spiritual energy,” she spoke gruffly, eyeing the two retired pro fighters who stood idly in the corner.
“what do you mean ‘energy shift’? don’t spirits remain the same?” bolin questioned, his arms resting across his chest.
“korra means that there’s another being that has caused a change in the spirit world’s energy,” jinora stated, looking over to bolin.
“do you know what it is?” mako asked.
korra shook her head. “That’s why I called this meeting. raava wanted you all to be here for this.”
“well, miss giant peace spirit, what is it that you wanted us for?” Bolin questioned.
korra deadpanned at the young earth bender before sighing. “all raava told me was that something powerful has emerged since harmonic convergence and it’s on its way here.”
“do you think it’s another dark spirit?” asami voiced.
korra only shook her head. “dark spirits don’t really shift the energy in the spirit world.”
“could it be another unalaq situation?” tenzin fretted, his large eyebrows furrowing in worry.
korra huffed, looking out the window. “i-i don’t know! all i know is that whatever this...thing is, it’s powerful and is coming to republic city. soon.”
“we seriously need to find another place to live. i got lost like eight times around the same snow bank,” jian whined, wiping snow off of his coat with his free hand, his other hand occupied with a bag of food.
you rolled your eyes at your brother. “if you want to go and buy a house with the four copper pieces we have, then be my guest,” you uttered as you set out the firewood. “can you light this please so I can start cooking?”
jian huffed, a small puff of air floating in front of him before dissipating. he shuffled over to the fire pit, inhaling deeply before moving his arm swiftly, his hand in a fist as a small blast of fire rushed from it and into the kindling, the small sticks and pieces of wood setting aflame.
you breathed a quick thanks as you set a stone pot over the fire, twirling your hand over a bowl filled with water. the liquid ripples before a large sphere of water floats out of the bowl, following your hand as you guide it into the pot.
jian sits in front of the flame, watching you as you prepare dinner. “you think we’ll ever actually have a house?” he questioned, catching you pause as you skinned the fish.
you looked up at your brother sadly, sighing as you brought your gaze back to the fish. “i hope so, jian. i hope so.”
you both sat in silence, the crackling of the flame permeating the still air. a small plop was heard as a pile of snow fell onto jian’s head. he sputtered, shaking his head to rid it of the sudden coldness that encompassed it.
you raised an eyebrow at him, watching as he ran his fingers through his hair. “you said you weren’t followed, right?” you questioned, eyes holding a skeptical look within them.
jian looked at you quizzically. “i never said anything about being followed…” he trailed off, shutting his eyes, focusing his energy. a second later, his grey orbs shot open, wide and filled with fear. “get down!” he yelled, grabbing your shoulder and pulling down, just barely avoiding the sharp blade of a spear being swiped through your small igloo.
“they’re in here!” you heard from outside, followed by a multitude of heavy footsteps.
“shit!” you cursed quietly, pulling your hood over your head. you held a finger up to your lips as you looked at jian, signaling him to remain quiet.
the footsteps outside of your hut came to a stop, seeming to surround the both of you. you silently scooted towards the center of the igloo, getting into a crouching position and bringing your arms close to your chest. you looked at jian, seeing him ready in the same position. he gave you a quick nod as his face set in with cold determination.
your head snapped back forward to the entrance of the igloo, hearing slow footsteps approaching the opening. silently with bated breath, you waited as the intruder approached. when they were just a meer foot away from the entrance, your hand formed a blade, shooting outward and freezing the snow below the stranger's foot. you brought your arm up causing the ice to crawl up their torso, shouts of panic and anger following swiftly after.
the fast crunching of snow against heavy boots brought you to look to the back of your once secluded hut, pushing both your arms out with your palms facing outwards, causing a block of ice to eject from the pure white walls and towards an enemy.
jian was quick to move in front of the hole, fiercely punching out blasts of fire at all who dared to come closer. you slid out of the entrance, waving your arms in a circular motion as you wrapped what looked to be a guard in a rope of water, whipping them around and flinging them off into the distance.
“jian! it’s time to go!” you shouted, separating your fingers and moving your arms in sharp motions to form a wall of ice between you and your opponents. jian blasted his way out of your now destroyed hut, grabbing your hand and running off towards town.
“don’t let them get away!” you heard behind you, with sounds of fast footsteps and clanging metal tailing you both.
you and jian weaved through crowds and merchant kiosks, knocking things over in an attempt to get more distance between you and the guards.
your eyes narrowed in on the dock, seeing a ship being loaded up as it was preparing to leave.
“this way!” you pulled your brother along with you, dashing towards the boat, tripping over small snow mounds only to quickly regain your footing as you continued running.
your e/c eyes widened as the cargo door began closing, a distressed noise being heard beside you as jian began pushing to make it to the sea craft.
he reached his arm up, his fingers curled as he focused on the particles within the metal door before pulling his arm to his chest. the door creaked at the invisible force keeping it open against its will. he groaned at the effort, sweat beginning to tickle his tanned forehead as he grit his teeth.
once you made it, you used the snow to boost yourself in before reaching down to grab jian’s freehand.
as you pulled him in, a guard grabs his foot, yanking at his leg in an attempt to rip him from your grasp. “oh no you fuckin’ don’t,” he grinned evilly, pulling harshly on jian.
your brow furrowed angrily at the man, easing your free hand. “let...go...of my...brother!” you roared, thrusting your hand forward and releasing a large gust of wind at the man.
he flew back into a pile of crates, smashing them. he groaned as he watched you pull jian into the boat, defeatedly gazing as the door finally closes and the boat sets off.
his fellow guards caught up to him, one of them rushing to help him up.
“are you okay captain?” she asked hastily, grabbing his arm and hoisting him up.
“i’m fine, but we’ve lost the targets,” he grumbled frustratedly, dusting off himself off.
“do you know where they’re headed sir?” another guard inquired, following their captain’s gaze out to the boat that was far off in the distance.
“they’re on their way to republic city.”
