This scene was funny enough in the book, when I imagined Lord Host was maybe eight feet tall. Both his struggle to assemble a grapefruit-sized puzzlebox and Komekko bossing him around are a lot funnier when he's...what, twenty or thirty feet tall?

The hubris of a true Crimson Demon. Yunyun had better watch out once this li'l usurper comes of age!

I wouldn't blame you for assuming that I like every scene with Komekko, especially if you've noticed the collection of random Komekko screencaps at the end of this post. But removing the "NEET" from "NEET-onēchan" completely ruins the joke for anyone who isn't paying attention to dialogue spoken in a language they don't understand. Megumin is trying to convince herself that she's not a NEET, her annoying little sister calls her a NEET, annoyed reaction shot. Simple gag, completely unravels if Komekko does not call Megumin a NEET.

I realize Crunchyroll probably paid the translator <$100 to translate the entire episode, so they can't afford to spend too much time on it, but it's still annoying—and all the weirder since the main Konosuba series translates Aqua's insult of "hikko-NEET" as "sh-NEET" and not just "shut-in". Even if the word "NEET" hadn't been repeatedly used earlier this episode, the Konosuba fanbase is already well aware of its existence.

...It's hard to stay mad while looking at that face, though. And she even used the magic word!

This is Komekko, she who is entrusted with watching the house, and slyest little sister of the Crimson Demon Clan! Fear her gallant lack of self-preservation instincts, her ravenous hunger, and her knack for bossing extremely dangerous things around!

Luckily for the Crimson Demon Village, Komekko doesn't actually know any magic (yet). She's bossing demons around not by binding them to her will, but by a combination of stubbornness, being good at solving puzzles demons need solved, and…well, this isn't stated in the text, but it doesn't hurt that Komekko is pretty cute.

I don't just mean that she's got big eyes and a star in her hair, though that doesn't hurt. Her childish overconfidence and complete lack of verbal filter mean that she just says and does whatever she wants. And what she wants is…mostly food, her family is pretty poor, but she also loves her friends and family. Even if she annoys them a lot of the time.

Komekko is the essence of a younger sibling distilled into a junior chuunibyo, except that she's annoying someone who isn't you so it's funny when she does that.

Hark! What dost yon Tumblrinas think of young Komekko?

Komekko is so much more precious animated than she was on the page. Cute anime kids…my one weakness.
