Kogi politician arrested with N326m and $610,500 cash after allegedly ste@ling N1.4billion from a bank The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the Kogi State House of Assembly seat, #Ismailayusufatumeyi with N326 million and $140,500 cash.   Atumeyi, who is seeking to represent Ankpa 11 Constituency in the State Assembly, was arrested on Sunday, October 30, 2022 alongside one Joshua Dominic, an alleged serial fr@udster. EFCC’s spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren in a statement said they were arrested in a sting operation at Macedonia Street, Queens Estate, Karsana, Gwarinpa in Abuja. According to Uwujaren, Femi supplied the inside information that facilitated the att@ck on a bank by the syndicate. “He (Femi) was picked up Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos. Following his arrest, a search was conducted on his home in Morgan Estate, Ojodu where a total of $470,000 USD was recovered. The arrest of the suspects followed months of investigation into the hacking of one of the commercial banks by a syndicate of fr@udsters who pulled off a heist of N1.4billion. The syndicate allegedly moved N887 million into the account of Fav Oil and Gas limited, from where the monies were paid to several Bureau de Change operators and some auto dealers for exchange into United States Dollars and purchase of high-end cars,” he said. The EFCC added that Dominic, who has severally been arrested for fr@ud, allegedly helped Atumeyi perfect the hacking plan through Abdumalik. “Dominic, a self-styled investment expert and managing director of Brisk Capital Limited was arrested in May 2021 by the Special Fr@ud Unit of the Nigeria Police for alleged N2billion investment scm. He allegedly defr@uded over 500 persons in a phony investment scheme. Two Range Rover Luxury SUVs were also recovered from the two suspects arrested in Abuja. Dino Melaye loses PDP Senate Primaries Senator Dino Melaye has lost his bid to return to the Red Chamber. Melaye lost to House of Reps member and Political rival, Tajudeen Yusuf. The controversial Kogi politician was only able to poll 99 votes against TJ Yusuf who polled 163 votes. Information made available to this paper revealed that Yusuf, a three-term House of Reps member was level with Dino at 88 votes each as of Monday night leading to a Run-off. Things took a bad turn for Melaye on Tuesday when the camp of the Ex-Governor, Ibrahim Idris who was backing Sam Aro, who polled 72 votes in the primaries, gave their block support to Yusuf in the run-off elections. PDP woman leader burnt to death in Kogi state buried amid tears

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) woman leader in Kogi state who was burnt alive on November 18, Salome Abuh has been buried. The charred remains of the late Abuh, who was burnt alive at her residence in Ochadamu, Kogi State was laid to rest amid tears and wailings by relations, friends and associates on Saturday at her village, Aji-Obala, Ofu Local Government Area. The Officiating Minister, John Adino of the United Evangelical Church, Idah, in his sermon, called on Christians to give their lives to Christ before it is too late. He said that death could come at any time, saying that anybody could die under any circumstance. “It is always good for people to die in the course of the Lord,” he said. Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked Adavi Police Divisional Headquarters in Kogi State and k*lled three officers during the shootout. The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Ovye Aya, confirmed the incident in a statement in Lokoja on Saturday, April 23. "Today, 23/4/2022, the command received a report of the unfortunate incident at Adavi Police Division, where some hoodlums attacked the station from the opposite direction shooting sporadically, but were repelled by the men on duty and operatives of the Quick Response Unit who were on special operations at the local government,' the PPRO stated. "The command lost three of its officers during the gun duel, while the hoodlums fled with gun shot wounds as they could not get access to the station.” He said the state Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Egbuka, had deployed a team of tactical operatives to the area to restore normalcy and track down the hoodlums. The state police command therefore called on the people of Adavi and the adjoining communities to be on the lookout and report any body seen with bullet wounds, to the Police or any other Security Forces nearest to them. "CP Egbuka has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Investigation, to commence investigation into the incident immediately.” the statement added. One of the slain police officers has been identified as Sergeant Justice Menduas. The Chairman of Adavi local government, Hon. Joseph Omuya Salami, who also confirmed the incident said he promptly rushed to the police station around about 12:45:am when the information got to him. "The unknown gunmen came around a few minutes past 0:00hrs, engaged policemen, but were later repelled by the Galant Officers. Unfortunately, three police operatives paid the supreme price during the shootout," the council boss stated. The chairman expressed concern over the ugly incident, and felt sorry for the lives that were lost in the course of duty. Governor Yahaya Bello’s wife involved in accident in same local government where Osinbajo’s chopper crashed in Kogi

Barely a week after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was involved in a helicopter crash in Kabba, Kogi state, the first wife of the state governor, Amina Bello, was involved in a car accident in the same area on Saturday February 9th. A statement from the governor's Chief Press secretary, Onogwu Muhammed, says the accident happened around Oshokoshoko area of Kabba while the governor’s wife and some aides were on their way to Isanlu for an All Progressives Congress (APC) woman rally. Kogi election: Appeal Court sets up election petitions tribunal

The Governorship and House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal that will handle petitions from November 16, Kogi governorship poll has been constituted by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa. This was disclosed in a statement signed by secretary of the tribunal, Umar Abubakar. According to Abubakar, the mandate of the tribunal is to hear and determine petitions that may arise from Kogi governorship election held on Saturday Nov. 16, 2019. He said the tribunal will also handle petitions arising from the forthcoming supplementary and re-run election in Kogi West Senate seat and Ajaokuta Federal Constituency scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 30. Abubakar added that the secretariat of the tribunal was located at FCT High Court, Wuse Zone 2, Abuja and called on those wishing to file election petitions to approach the secretariat.
