the fellowship at a hardware store, from someone who works at a hardware store:
sam: is in the nursery!! goes straight to the discount/dying plants and piles his cart full of wilted and sad plants. likes to rescue the houseplants first, has a soft spot for perennials and citrus trees. is a nightmare to check out but is very sweet about it. dirt and leaves everywhere. like, everywhere. they have to sweep after he’s gone. surprisingly strong and hauls big bags of dirt.
frodo: enjoys home improvement!! likes to wander carpeting and organization, hunts for good deals and keeps tabs on the sales weekends. he likes to peruse the shower curtains and closet accessories. likes to refurbish old furniture he finds off the side of the road- currently fixing up an antique dresser to put in the master bedroom.
merry: doorknobs, handles, dresser nobs. he likes to pick out the interesting and antique ones and customize his home with them. he really likes the oddly shaped ones, he has one starfish and one pickle on his nightstand table. likes to joke about touching all the knobs and fiddling with the knockers.
pippin: is lost in the lighting department. he’s staring up at all the pretty lights and hypnotizing fans. likes the remote controlled lights, enjoys messing with the demos. also likes collecting paint chips. (pippins also the kind of person to get really high and shit in the display toilets.) does not buy anything, maybe some beef jerky and skittles at the check outs.
boromir: this man has like 80 projects going on and is remarkably proficient in every conceivable area featured in the store. he’s here so much people think he works here. he kinda does. he’s happy to advise you, lead you to products, and lifts heavy things for little old ladies and swooning maidens. he’s happy to grab the things on the highest shelf as well as carry those bigs bags of dirt out to your care. he is just a naturally pure and helpful soul. <3
aragorn: has lost himself in scrap wood. straight to the lumber yard, straight to the pile of damaged and recycled wood. once a month, he comes and loads up as much as it will fit in a pickup truck. no one knows what he does with it but he keeps coming back. there are several theories around the store. either he’s building a bunker, has a side hustle by reselling it, makes massive fires or he does wood work. alternatively, he’s a homeless man building his own cabin in the woods so he can live away from society. that’s one’s probably the closest.
gandalf: mixes his own paint. he doesn’t work there but somehow he keeps getting back there and making his own custom colors. was known to pull a miracle and turn gray paint back into white. no one knows how he did this. likes to camp out in the seasonal section. enjoys lounging on couches and swings for long periods of time.
gimli: is so excited to walk into the tools section. wants all the toys. likes power tools in a way that’s both funny and scary. really likes chainsaws and leaf blowers, possibly because they pose the biggest threat to legolas. often gets flagged out the door because no one person needs that many tools and he must be up to something. he always beeps out the door because inevitably someone forgot to take off one of the sensors of his many, many tools. he used to be nicer about this but lately has lost patience with always being stopped out the door, and often will make a show of waving his receipt before leaving.
legolas: spends a good amount of time in the garden. i imagine he gets enamored with the fountains and ponds rather quickly, also likes the statues and fun pots. also, wanders through the garden and samples the plants. by samples i mean eat small bites of it, and if he finds the quality satisfactory he will purchase it. this is rarely the case and he often just goes around eating small bites of houseplants.

Harry blinked widely as he took in the dark circular atrium.
“What is this place?” he wondered aloud.
“The Department of Mysteries,” Otis explained as he stepped up to a door golden in decorative gold and glass.
Each of the doors looked completely different. One was a bright white gate with what looked like grass and sunlight on the other side. Another was a simple wooden door and a round metal knob.
Harry could feel strong magic emanating from each door. The magics reached out to him, pulling his own magic in each direction. Some had a stronger pull than others and Harry found himself before a black door. It was curved and had an arch over it that was carved with ancient runes.
The door clicked and cracked open.
Whispers echoed out of the room. Harry edged closer and tilted his head to see through the small gap. There was an archway within the room that had a misty white Veil that moved as if alive.
The whispers grew louder. It was all Harry could hear. He reached a hand out to the door as he stepped closer.
A hand grasped Harry's wrist, snapping him out of the moment.
Harry blinked and turned to Otis. The whispers were gone.
“How did you open this door?” The old man demanded.
“I didn't. It opened on its own.”
“That's not possible.”
“I didn't do it!” Harry insisted sharply.
Otis released his wrist and slammed the door closed. The sound echoed around the atrium.
“What is it? What's in there?”
“This door leads to the Chamber of Death.”
Harry felt a zing of magic go down his spine.
“All of these doors lead to the great Mysteries of Magic. An Unspeakable dedicates their life to studying these mysteries. Once an Unspeakable has mastered the magic to a mystery, they gain the ability to open the door to the room. Only then.”
Otis gestured to the door.
Harry glanced at the man and then over his shoulder to Leo. The warlock didn't say anything, but he didn't stop what was happening.
Harry reached out. The door didn't have a traditional handle, instead a knocker that could be used to pull it closed.
His fingers touched the soft walnut wood. The door slowly swung wide open with an ominous creak.
The three wizards were silent. Otis closed the door again.
“What does that mean?”
“It means, that if you ever want a job in the Department of Mysteries, you've got it.”
“That's it?”
“Until you turn seventeen, yes. That's it.”

The Witch's Wand Part 2 'The Wand'
Tumblr media
I sat on the street crying and hyperventilating until the darkness came and the moon loomed over me. Not a soul had come to see if I was alright, my father never came to find me, Jack... never came back for me.
Even if every time I saw someone's feet I prayed they were Jack's, having changed his mind and come to take me away from all of this, rescue me like my knight in shining armour, carry me in his arms like he always did and tell me how he loved me.
But this was a fool's hope.
I slowly regained some ability to breathe, some ability to get myself up from the ground. My body crawled forward sniffling in desperation my hands finding the dirt as I crawled to a nearby stone wall forcing my back against it as I tried desperately to settle myself. But I just broke down into tears at the thought that...
This was real.
It was really happening.
Jack left me.
He walked away.
Perhaps never to see me again...
After all this time, all the things he had told me, all the promises he had made me,
And he just left.
I was frozen, shaking, unsure of what to do or how to proceed.
When something... caught my eye.
As I looked across the dark street lit only by the streetlights and their orange glow... There sat in the dry Australian dust.
A... Stick?
But this wasn't a stick from any tree I had ever known,
I moved closer and picked it up in my hand...
It was a stick of a deep black wood well polished and smooth, around thirty centimetres long going from its thickest point at one end to its thinnest at the other, it was carved with intricate celestial images, stars and constellations that sparkled with selenite stone pressed into the wood, a handle of purple-dyed leather with two green straps at each end of the handle, at the hilt below the handle was an intricately carved gladiolus flower blooming but instead of pollen stems it was a craved sleeping bat, at the tip a sharp shard of lapis lazuli held onto the wand by a twisting vine of the wood with lavender flowers craved into it.
A.. A wand?
It looked beautiful Mystical, like... a witch's wand?
I got my head on straight and asked myself "What is this thing?"
I got to my feet and held the wand in my hand, I turned to the wall and took the wand grip in my hand, I pointed it to the wall half expecting a fireball to come out or something but... nothing.
I shook my head at my own foolishness of course it didn't do anything, I went to turn back and begin my walk home to wallow in my sadness but I saw...
The stone wall I had just been leant against, where I had pointed the wand, where moments ago it was bricks... Now.
Green and purple glitter sparked across the wall creating an arched wooden door painted purple with a silver knocker and knob,
I was certain that door could not have been there a moment ago, I just watched it form in front of my eyes.
I was fearful and shaking with the wand still in my hand, but I was so curious as to how it happened, where it led, and if this was truly magic?
I moved my hand to my door knob giving it a slow twist before I pushed myself through...

INK 'N' PETALS | THE RAVEN
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Solana's reserved a musty room at a local motel and waits as she was originally instructed. The room is pungent of cigarettes. Both the bed sheets and the carpet are plagued by irregularly-shaped stains she dares not attempt to identify. Even so, it's not the room's critical state of hygiene that has her pacing back and forth, nibbling her fingernails.
Mentally, she's reciting some sort of prayer - not that she's ever been instructed as to how to do a proper one. It's more pleading than prayer, than reverence, she'd say. Begging for everything to go as planned, to go smoothly; no hurdles, no set-backs, no losses. All at no cost, of course, like a favor from the heavens. They are known for their grace, are they not?
A little too easily, and quickly, her prayers are answered with a sequence of taps on the door.
Her pacing stops. She draws in a breath and waits out for another tap, to verify she'd not imagined it.
Peering through the peep-hole on the room door, a raven head of curls comes into view, bent to gaze at the ground. The knocker has a pale arm propped against the solid door.
Solana unhooks the chain from the door, twists the lock and the knob, swinging it open to meet Yoongi.
Her gaze rakes his complexion - no wounds - then skitters down to the duffel bag in his clutch, stuffed beyond its limit.
Hurriedly, Yoongi transfers its weight into her hold.
She staggers because of its weight, employ the efforts of her other hand at hoisting it up.
Yoongi's dark eyes steadily bore into hers, as if it's the last good look he'll get of her. As though he's snapping a mental picture in the hopes of preserving what will easily be lost in a matter of minutes.
In a swift motion, he brushes his warm lips with her forehead, and gently squeezes her cheek with his hand.
She barely mutters a hurried greeting, or inquiry as to what's in the duffel bag, when he beats her to it.
"No time for questions, Ana." His cheeks are flushed the way a runner's are after jogging a number of miles, nostrils flaring. Every other second, he glances over his shoulder, chest heaving. "You just have to trust me."
"Blindly," she affirms with a nod.
Stammering for a breath, he proceeds, "Alright, there's a train that leaves at 7 AM. Minstowe East station. Ticket is in the bag. You hop on. You avoid contact with strangers. You keep running." He pauses, gaze dancing between hers, allows the instructions sink in.
"Whatever you do," he continues, "you don't look back. Hear me?" He licks the sweat collecting at the bow of his upper lip.
Solana nods.
Anxiously, he shits his weight off the doorframe, onto his sore legs that threaten to buckle beneath him, then leans back onto the frame. He presses his forehead against hers one last time. "Ana, this is it. A chance at a new life. Promise me you won't look back."
Solana stalls, slow to acclimate, unable to conjure even half as much determine courage as him.
She rolls her bottom lip inward into a fine line.
Around Yoongi, for the years she'd known him, she'd never been strong. Rather, she'd always crumble, bear herself vulnerable, because at some point early in their journey she'd learned he was worthy of her trust. He'd never done, or would ever do, anything to hurt her.
Tears collect on her lash-line.
"What about you? What will happen to you, Yoongs?"
"Don't worry. There's at least seven lives left in here." He gently claps her cheek. "Promise?" Lifts his weight off the frame, decidedly this time, like ripping a band-aid and committing to tolerating the discomfort; or pulling a decayed tooth by slamming a door with a string attached to its handle.
Apprehensively, she responds "I promise," knowing that's the only thing he's waiting for to disappear. Part of her wants to object, just so he'd stay.
Yoongi's frame dwindles in size as he jogs across the vacant parking lot, into the mist of dawn.
Before he's completely out of sight, she calls one last time "Hey, Yoongs?"
He slows but doesn't turn. Can't bear to look back at her. Doesn't want the last view of her to be that of tears.
"Thank you..."
Tumblr media
Conversation dwindles into a tranquil cadence; the kind that rises out from the comfort of each others' quiet presence; the kind that wraps about two figures as they partake in their individual projects while in each others' constant company - one writing away on their laptop, the other reading the last 50 pages of a book.
“I missed you, Yoongs,” she hums and nuzzles her nose into his neck for added comfort. Even with being able to hold him flush against her, and feeling his chest rise with a rhythmic breath, Solana finds it hard to believe. Through the dim night, she blinks at the sight of him, the silhouette of his relaxed face, as though it is a mirage that could vanish with a gush of wind. “I thought I’d never see you again. Had mentally prepared myself to live that version of reality.”
The latter presses his lips into her temple, extinguishing any doubt about his presence. "Can't get rid of me that easily, Sol."
She smiles at the certainty in that statement. As reliable as a law. Yoongi would always be there. Always. Like a moon to its planet, or a planet to its sun, unified in orbit, though at times imperceivable.
“I did something bad,” her voice trembles unsteady, thinking back to their parting, the things she'd wanted to confess to him back then but felt robbed by the urgency of the conditions they'd found themselves in. Her grip tightens around the fabric of his tee shirt, clings to it like a lifeline on the side of a hill.
Solana knows that nothing she could confess would drive Yoongi to abandoning her. Her hold on him is desperate, though. A fearful child clinging to its comfort plush to wait out the deceiving night.
“I know,” he hums, “we all do at some point.” He wraps a sturdy hand around her head laying her cheek over his chest, presses his cheek over her crown and holds her safe. “It’s what you do from there on that matters.”
“Was running the right thing?”
“Sometimes it is,” he responds. “You are safe, that’s all what matters. You did the right thing fleeing. Sometimes fear can surprise you. It can be powerful like that. Protective.”
Her soft voice comes out as a mumble over his creased shirt, “I don’t want to live the rest of my life on the run. So scared - I’m so fucking scared of what will happen when it catches up to me-”
“-it won’t,” his tone is firm, voice stable, unlike hers. She clings to it like the gospel truth. Lets it wash her clean of her sins. Steps into a new life with firm believe in those two words. “You won’t have to keep running. You don’t have to.”
“What do you mean?” She tenses, grip over his shirt loosening. Starts to withdraw, considering the dreadful possibility flying through her mind that this could be a trap; that the one who knew all of her intimacies could betray her.
Solana he rises to her elbows, untethered hair billowing over his chest like thick stage curtains.
“It’s over,” he adds. “War is won.”
He cups her chin, the whispers soft, “Stop. Running.” Draws his thumb along the sharp lines of her jaw. Risks getting sliced open. She's worth the shed of a tear or drop of blood, he thinks. No one else he'd take a bullet for.
It's frightening, the overwhelming sense of protection that has flourished through the years. He doesn't fight it though.
There is a blotchy raven tattoo on the dorsal side of his pasty hand. Solana often would call it "the melted raven who flew too close to the sun" given its appearance.
“It’s what I came to tell you.”
"How about you? Will you stop running, too?"
"Honey, I’m a track star."
Solana erupts into a guffaw, head thrashing.
Laughter contagious like the flu, Yoongi finds himself caught in a fit of chuckles, cheeks burning sore, abdomen flexing without relent. It has been so long since he has felt that sort of happy - the kind you preemptively feel sorry about losing. The kind you feel you don’t deserve. The kind that makes you suspicious that life is only dangling it in front of you to snap it out of your grasp as soon as you start getting your hopes up. The kind that feels too good to be true, your hands quaking as you hold it, fearful you might drop it.
Her slap to his chest begs a genuine response.
They sit in silence, wherein he is pensive, nibbling on his lower lip while gazing up through the condensed glass ceiling. The moonglow halos him angelically.
She could watch him forever, the way you'd watch a relative peacefully sleep, so adoringly caught up you neglect the passage of time. The way its unspeakably comforting to watch the ones you love rest in safety.
He takes an inhale, conclusive, mind settled on the words he has chosen. Then holds it in apprehension. In fear that echoes that pre-emptive sadness that shades everything a shade of blue in its wake. Happiness is so close, it grazes his fingertips, and yet he knows on some deep, primal level that a graze is all he’ll ever be allotted. Fears it so much that it is practically a fact.
Still, he takes the leap. A graze being worth it enough. He musters the courage to voice, “I don’t know. Do you think this sob town, with its organic juice shops and yoga centers, is ready to accept me?"
To which she responds by linking her arms around his torso and bringing both their bodies collapsing over the sheets sprawled over the floor. “I’ll convert you into my flower boy. We will have to do something about that persistent brooding face of yours, though.” Her hand travels up to cup his cheek in the dark. "Can’t have you scaring away potential customers.”
Yoongi responds, "So far your only customer is Lico, and I’d say she likes me - or my lap, at least."
They fall asleep in each others' arms.
Tumblr media
Yoongi's taken up an affinity towards clementines ever since Ana brought home a net of them with the intent of propagating.
The bearing of fruit would take two-to-three years, at minimum, if the propagate were to survive through to fruition, so Ana had explained. Yoongi isn't really the patient-type. He's been living in survival mode much too long, living in the tomorrow instead of the now. Hasn't known anything else, because when you are born into a burning home, you expect to see the rest of the world up in flames, or something like that.
It's a warm Saturday morning. Yoongi and Ana weave through a market strip, the former, clutching two nets of clementines in his left grip.
An effervescing chuckle responds to the sight of him - his stoic figure, clad in shades of black, neck craned amidst the pop-up stalls, turning over items on the display tables, carefully reading the ingredients on the back of items. Ana recognizes she's successfully converted him into a farmer's market boy. A flower boy, with his rose-like thorns. Her flower boy, as she'd originally promised.
Despite holding the item in proximity, he squints his eyes into half-moons, always plagued by poor vision. He has a recipe in mind he wants to cook tonight.
Ana's light touch grazes the surface of different farming books stacked over a display table.
She's got one split to the table of contents, skimming the ink with pensively pinched brows when a hand encircles her cheek, clasps her mouth with suction.
Her heart rate quickens, pounding against her sternum.
And despite standing there paralyzed by fear, her hands start sweating, ready to take any measure that would ensure survival. A swing behind her head, perhaps? A quick swivel and a knee to the groin? A bite to the delicate flesh pressed to her lips?
When her eyes flutter down to gauge just how much space and freedom she has to proceed with the third option, blotchy black ink in the lose figure of a raven taking flight comes into view.
Instantly, her tense shoulders relax, and she sinks back against Yoongi's torso. Feeling inexplicable relieved.
Peaking over her shoulder at his furrowed countenance, she attempts to voice her questions with incoherent mumbles. Her flighty eyes round and gauging the ripple of thoughts on his gradient of micro-expressions.
His hand relaxes and slides from your mouth to rest on your shoulder. He lifts his other hand to press a pale finger to his lips.
Ana quips a brow but obliges, nonetheless. The fear in Yoongi's ebony eyes is jarringly palpable. She dares not underestimate it.
Again, her heart rate quickens, ears and cheeks flushing hot this time. Even with the erratic rhythm of her heart circulating, a dizzy spell befalls her.
Yoongi's strong hold anchors her weight but, in the process of cradling her unsteady body, the net of clementines tears against the jagged edge of the table.
A flurry of orange unfolds, spilling abundantly over the ground, all thumping and loud and indefinitely rolling in tangential directions. Beckoning attention. Impossible to ignore.
"Fuck," Yoongi breathes against her temple, dotted in summer sweat.
He links his calloused hand with hers and takes flight, in a nature entirely practiced and his own.
Ana doesn't stall to ask what, or who, exactly they are running from. She'd started suspecting as soon as she met the familiar hue of fear on his face, the focused squint of his eyes, the flare of his nostrils in response to adrenaline.
They are prey on the run from the same predator that has chased them to the edges of the forest.
If either of them get caught this time, chances are there won't be any hope reuniting from thereon. The effects would be grave and permanent. That's all she needs to know to match her strides with Yoongi's.
So much for a safe haven.

₊˚♬ Slow Dancing in a Burning Room - John Mayer
Mist hovers the street and in the faint orange of early morning it's as if the heavens have collapsed. A rendition of a fragmented sky collecting at her feet.
In an attempt to preserve heat and subdue a shiver, Solana hugs the hoodie Jeongguk had lent her, after having stripped her of her own appropriately-sized garments and scattered them across his bedroom floor the night prior.
She leaps off the elevated side-walk, onto the faded pavement markings of a pedestrian crossing.
Hopping onto the opposing side-walk, she cranes her head, squints her eyes to peer through the fogged windows of her store.
No lights are on. Stagnant shadows are cast over the front desk and the few flower arrangements she'd managed to set out last night before Jeongguk greedily claimed her attention.
A crisp whistle tears through the silent streets, its echo rising over her head.
She hops to face the street, back turned to her dormant shop.
The tattoo parlor across also sleeps, its neon sign shut off. She lifts her gaze to the windows of the floor above the parlor. A figure leans over the windosill, smiling, toothy, dimpled at the corners, eyes twinkling like those morning stars that refuse to be put out by the radiance of the sun.
Blushing, Solana's nervous gaze rakes his slept-in look - tussled curls, wrinkle tee. Even here, a street away, she can still feel the warmth of his skin on hers.
He motions with his hands for her to step into her store. Doesn't allow himself to hop in for a shower until he's sure she's inside, safe.
Despite her arrival, indicated by the jingle of a bell above the swinging door, the store continues to sleep undisturbed. No one comes running to greet her. She quickly assumes Yoongi's still asleep; that he'd stayed up far later than he'd realized working on his prose only to miss his rise alarm - if he'd even remembered to set one.
His absence, however, is far less questionable than that of a familiar furry tail wrapping around ankles.
Solana coos "Lico?" a number of times, starting at a whisper, rising to a song-like tune.
"Hun?" She bends to seek the tri-colored creature in the spaces beneath furniture. Opens and closes door worried she might have locked him somewhere yesterday without noticing.
Her pulse starts to quicken, thumbing muffled in her ears, such that she doesn't hear the storefront door open.
Having scoured the upstairs kitchen and found no trace of the kitty, her feet clap down the stairs.
"I can't find Lico, Yoongs." She braces her unsteady weight by clasping the railing of the stairs and looks towards the entrance. Fixes her gaze at the back of Yoongi's raven head, wishing for him to turn with Lico in his hold.
With hunched shoulders and a square build, Yoongi works on the number of locks of the door, turning them with a symphony of clicks. Any other day, she would have instantly read him as a red flag, as someone who is hiding something, but today, she can only frantically cry for the stray kitty she'd developed an affinity for.
Yoongi doesn't have to turn to imagine the way horror has stretched her face, widened her eyes, drooped her lips into a frown. He's seen fear in her too many times in their shared life to not have the scarring image seared into memory.
Something in his chest squeezes tightly. A sharp pain piercing him, leaving him staggering for a steady breath. He'd promised to never see that look again; to never have her subjected to fearsome conditions again.
More and more, it seems like every effort at keeping her safe is met with exceeding danger. He can't keep up. The promises falling hollow.
In a voice barely above a whisper, he informs her Lico was involved in a hit-and-run right outside the shop. Tells her he just returned from the animal hospital. "There's not much they could do..."
"What?" Solana's steps thud heavy in approach, behind him. Her quaking hand anchors itself to the sleeve of his shirt. He continues to face the door. Hasn't moved a step since he arrived. Can't bear to look at her.
"You were supposed to be watching him," her voice quivers, on the precipe of shattering. She needs him to tell her it's a cruel joke. She needs him to turn around and have the kitty sleeping soundly in his hold how it so often does.
"I was," he admits. Clears his throat, a heavy lump materializing there, making words hard to form. "I was watching him-"
"-then, what happened?" She angrily tugs at his sleeve, forcing him to turn and face her. Her destroyed gaze demands an explanation, some sort of justification, though none could suffice. Not even from the lips of Yoongi, who she blindly trusts with her life.
An angry red clouds his right eye, so angry that his eyelid is swollen shut. Crusted blood stripes his brow above the assault.
Instictively, Solana stumbles back, mouth handing slack and vacant of words. She rakes her look across him, scans the rest of his body for signs of injury. An abrasion on his lower lip.
Knuckles of his hands a similar shade as his eye, only the flesh is worn and eroded down.
Slowly, she draws near, lifting a hand to gently cup his cheek. "Wh-who did this to you?" Some part of her already knows the answer to that, still, she wants to hear it from his lips. The same lips that would assure her everything would be alright at the end of the day. The lips that always knew the right response.
"I shouldn't have ever come, Ana." Yoongi shatters into a fragile boy she'd never met. Tears stream down his cheeks, mingling with blood, sweat, dirt. In the ten years of calling Yoongi a friend - family - she'd never once seen him shed a single tear, and she'd seen him do horrible things just as many times as she'd seen horrible things being done to him.
"They know."
She pulls him into the tightest embrace her trembling hands can secure, cradles his head over her chest despite his stature.
Her voice barely above a whisper against his temple, "They know?"
Tumblr media
Ana's cried so much this night that her cheeks now feel tight and crusted with her tears, frozen into a painful frown. Her hands are clasped over Yoongi's chest, tight, as if he might disappear otherwise. His heart drums lightly but consistently beneath her palm.
"I'm sorry, Sol," his voice cracks, though it's been hours since he arrived and delivered the news. Hours of trying to sit in the grief over the hardwood floor and numb himself to it long enough to regain composure. "I'm sorry for what happened to Lico..." Tears wet the inner sides of her forearms, his cheeks nustled against them. "I'm sorry I guided them here and now it's all ruined."
Ana nuzzles her nose into the crown of his raven head. Inhales his scent. Mumbles into his hair, "You're not ok, Yoongs." It shatters her voice the way it shatters her heart that she failed to protect either of them.
"Please," she begs, "come with me. Let's leave, just us two, like always. We'll change our names, our appearances. We'll keep on the run until we find another safe place to land. You're not safe. I can't lose you, too."
"Ana, I'm so tired...so tired of running..."
They sit in silence. Streaks of warm sunlight pour in through the drawn blinds of the store; Ana had shut them shortly after his arrival, just as she'd twisted the sign to display "Closed." Later today, she'd send out apologies instead of her regular newsletter; offer compensation for the inconvenience in the form of discounts and BOGO offers.
The curtains aren't long enough to touch the ground, so a slight sliver above the ground offers them vantage through the glass of the front door. Shoes march across the side-walk, some march up to the store door and halt before turning away with muffled conversation.
Though it's broad daylight, they haven't been able to turn away from the door. Danger obeys no laws, and would surely neglect the "Closed" sign to collect its debt.
If it had arrived to assault Yoongi last night, what's to say it wouldn't show up whenever, unannounced. It knows their location now. There's no hiding.
"I hate that history's repeating itself," Yoongi remarks in a drained tone, just barely above a whisper, "but you have to leave, Solana. I tried so hard against it. I really did."
"Why won't you come with me?" Her hands grip the collar of his shirt. "It's not a matter of 'can't' because you can. You simply won't. Why?"
"I'll stay and lure them off your trail. It's best this way." "What if they hurt you?"
He doesn't respond. He can't imagine anything hurting more than now.
"You know that Jeon kid," he says, neglecting the subject is only a number of years younger, not an entire decade. He persists to call him that from his youthful appearance. Kid looks like he's never grieved a day in his life. "I think it's time you come clean with him. You've started a life here, ana. Started to cultivate some sense of happiness. You deserve that. Don't give it up."
Ana shakes her head and though Yoongi's not facing her, he can feel her body shake with objection. With fear.
"He doesn't know what I did," her tone's solid, no longer quaking now. Slices firmly through the silence. "Doesn't know me, not the real me, the ugly me I try so hard to shove down, to bury."
Yoongi folds forward, warmth departing from your chest. Swivels in his seat to face her.
She averts his knowing gaze, eyes growing glossy in the faint light.
"I'm scared he won't want me when he finds out." Her lips tremble. "Scared whatever that's growing between us is so fragile that it could end in an instant, with a single confession." Shutting her eyes to tame her emotions, a string of glass-like tears descends her cheek.
Yoongi cups Solana's cheek and wipes the stray tear with his thumb. "It's impossible to not want you."

Door Accessories:
Exploring Door Accessories: Enhancing Functionality and Aesthetics
Doors are not just portals providing passage; they are integral elements of architectural design, security systems, and interior aesthetics.
Door accessories play a crucial role in enhancing both the functionality and visual appeal of doors. From practical additions like handles and locks to decorative elements such as door knockers and hinges, a diverse range of accessories contributes to the overall utility and aesthetics of doors.
This exploration delves into the world of door accessories, shedding light on their various types, functionalities, and their impact on the spaces they adorn.
Door Handles and Knobs: Door handles and knobs are perhaps the most essential and frequently used door accessories. They serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. Functional handles provide a means for opening and closing doors, while decorative knobs add a touch of style. Materials such as brass, stainless steel, and ornate designs contribute to the overall aesthetic appeal, complementing the interior or exterior design of a space.
Locks and Latches: Security is a paramount consideration for doors, and locks and latches are indispensable accessories for this purpose. Whether it's a simple lock for a residential door or a sophisticated electronic access control system for commercial spaces, choosing the right door accessories is crucial. The variety includes traditional key locks, combination locks, smart locks, and more, each catering to specific security needs.
Hinges: Hinges are the unsung heroes of doors, providing the pivot point for smooth opening and closing. They come in various designs, including butt hinges, continuous hinges, and concealed hinges. The choice of hinge depends on factors like door weight, size, and the desired aesthetic. Well-designed hinges not only ensure functionality but also contribute to the overall durability of the door.
Door Knockers: Door knockers are decorative accessories that add a touch of tradition and personality to a door. Beyond their visual appeal, they serve the practical purpose of announcing a visitor. From classic ring-shaped knockers to whimsical and artistic designs, they come in various shapes and materials, allowing homeowners to express their style and make a statement.
Door Stops: Door stops are functional accessories that prevent doors from swinging too far or damaging walls. They come in various forms, including wall-mounted stops, floor-mounted stops, and magnetic stops. While their primary function is practical, door stops can also be chosen to complement the overall design theme, adding a subtle yet useful element to the space.
Peepholes and Viewers: Security-conscious homeowners often incorporate peepholes or viewers into their doors to observe visitors without opening the door. These small yet essential accessories provide a level of security, allowing residents to verify the identity of individuals outside before granting access. Modern versions may include features such as wide-angle lenses and digital displays for added convenience.
Door Sweeps and Weather Stripping: Beyond aesthetics and security, door accessories also contribute to energy efficiency and comfort. Door sweeps and weather stripping prevent drafts, moisture, and insects from entering a building. These accessories are especially crucial for exterior doors, helping to maintain a comfortable indoor environment while reducing energy costs.
Kick Plates: Kick plates are protective plates mounted at the bottom of doors, often made of durable materials such as stainless steel or brass. They serve to prevent damage from kicks, scratches, or impacts, particularly in high-traffic areas. In addition to their protective function, kick plates can add a touch of sophistication to doors, enhancing both form and function.
Conclusion:
Door accessories are essential components that go beyond their functional roles, contributing to the overall design, security, and comfort of a space.
From the elegance of decorative door knockers to the robust security provided by advanced locking systems, each accessory plays a unique part in shaping the character of a door.
As architectural trends and technological innovations continue to evolve, so too will the world of door accessories, offering a myriad of options to cater to diverse preferences and practical needs.

Beyond Function: How Decorative Front Doors Define Your Home's Personality
Tumblr media
Introduction
Front doors are the first impression of your home, welcoming visitors and setting the tone for what lies beyond. While the primary function of a front door is to provide security and access, decorative front doors go beyond mere functionality. They are a reflection of a homeowner's personality and style, adding character and charm to the exterior of the house. In this article, we delve into the world of decorative front doors, exploring their significance, design elements, and how they define a home's personality.
The Significance of Decorative Front Doors
Curb Appeal
Decorative front doors are a key contributor to a home's curb appeal. They serve as a focal point that draws the eye and enhances the overall aesthetic of the house. A beautifully designed front door can make a significant impact on how a home is perceived by passersby and potential buyers.
Personal Expression
Your front door is an opportunity to express your personal style and taste. Whether you prefer a classic and timeless design or something bold and contemporary, the front door can be a reflection of your individuality. It's a chance to make a statement about who you are and what you value.
Historical and Architectural Significance
In many cases, decorative front doors are a nod to the historical and architectural significance of a home. They can reflect the era in which the house was built or pay homage to specific architectural styles, such as colonial, Victorian, or modernist. These doors help preserve the character of the home and its place in history.
Enhanced Security
Decorative front doors are not just about aesthetics; they can also offer enhanced security features. Modern decorative doors can be equipped with advanced locking systems, reinforced frames, and impact-resistant glass, providing homeowners with peace of mind without compromising on style.
Design Elements of Decorative Front Doors
Materials
The choice of materials for a decorative front door greatly impacts its appearance and durability. Common materials include wood, steel, fiberglass, and glass. Each material has its own unique aesthetic and practical qualities.
Wood: Wooden front doors are timeless and classic. They can be stained or painted to achieve various looks, from rustic to refined. Wood adds warmth and charm to the exterior of a home.
Steel: Steel doors are known for their durability and security. They can be designed with decorative patterns and finishes to mimic the appearance of wood or other materials.
Fiberglass: Fiberglass doors are low-maintenance and highly versatile. They can be molded to resemble wood grain or painted in a wide range of colors and finishes.
Glass: Glass inserts or sidelights are a common feature in decorative front doors. They allow for natural light to enter the foyer and can be designed with decorative patterns or beveled edges for added elegance.
Colors
The color of a front door can dramatically impact its overall look and feel. Bold and vibrant colors can create a focal point and add a sense of playfulness or drama, while neutral colors contribute to a timeless and understated elegance. The choice of color should complement the overall color palette of the house.
Hardware
The hardware on decorative front doors plays a significant role in their design. Door handles, knobs, knockers, and letterplates come in a variety of styles and finishes. These elements can add character and personality to the door, whether it's a vintage doorknob or a sleek modern handle.
Glass and Transoms
Glass panels or transoms above the front door are common design elements in decorative doors. They allow natural light to filter into the entryway and can be designed with intricate patterns or stained glass for added visual interest.
Carvings and Moldings
Carved details and moldings on the door itself or the door frame can create a sense of grandeur and sophistication. Intricate designs or custom carvings can turn the front door into a work of art.
How Decorative Front Doors Define Your Home's Personality
Traditional Elegance
Homes with decorative front doors that feature classic materials like wood and brass hardware tend to exude traditional elegance. These doors convey a sense of history and timelessness, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Such homes often embrace classic architectural styles like Colonial or Georgian.
Modern Minimalism
For homes that embrace contemporary design principles, decorative front doors with clean lines, sleek finishes, and minimalist hardware are a common choice. These doors convey a sense of modernity and simplicity, making a statement about the homeowner's appreciation for clean, uncluttered spaces.
Rustic Charm
Decorative front doors with wood paneling and wrought-iron hardware are often found in homes with a rustic or country-inspired aesthetic. These doors evoke a sense of coziness and warmth, creating a welcoming atmosphere.
Colorful Personality
Front doors painted in vibrant or unusual colors are a clear indication of a homeowner with a colorful personality. These doors are often found in homes where creativity and individuality are celebrated. Bold colors like red, teal, or yellow can make a striking statement.
Historical Homage
Homes that pay homage to a specific historical or architectural period often feature decorative front doors that align with that era's design principles. These doors serve as a tribute to the past and convey a deep appreciation for history and architecture.
Benefits of Decorative Front Doors
Enhanced Curb Appeal: Decorative front doors significantly enhance a home's curb appeal, making it more attractive to potential buyers and passersby.
Personal Expression: They provide an opportunity for homeowners to express their personal style and taste, making a unique statement about who they are.
Increased Home Value: A well-designed front door can add value to a home, as it contributes to the overall attractiveness and marketability of the property.
Security: Modern decorative doors can be equipped with advanced security features, ensuring both style and safety.
Historical Preservation: Decorative front doors can preserve the historical and architectural significance of a home, contributing to its cultural heritage.
Conclusion
Decorative front doors are more than just functional elements; they are a reflection of your home's personality and your personal style. They add character, charm, and curb appeal to your property, making a lasting impression on visitors and passersby. Whether you prefer traditional elegance, modern minimalism, rustic charm, or a colorful personality, there's a decorative front door design to suit your taste.
The design elements of materials, colors, hardware, glass, and carvings offer endless possibilities for customization. Your front door can be a work of art, a symbol of your historical homage, or a bold statement of your individuality. By carefully selecting and designing your decorative front door, you define not only your home's personality but also your own.

A/N: Okay, sorry it took me so long to publish. I actually had it all written out ages ago but it was the drawings that took me so long. Also @oneirataxia-girl OC Alvina is back for a bit.
Warning: Heavy use of Scottish accent (ask if a translation is needed XD), bullying, House discrimination.
"The feast is over now. All first years Ravenclaws, follow me to proceed to the Ravenclaw common room," An older boy, with bags hanging from his eyes, waved to gather their attention. A sea of blues and blacks get up, and follow him, "My name is Chester Davis and I am one your prefects. If you have any problems please come to me."
He talked about Hogwarts as they walked past statues and paintings, only outlining a brief history. Naturally, Rowan whispered to Juniper in greater detail the past of Hogwarts. They shushed a couple of times but Juniper found it fascinating to learn about the artists and founders. They continued onwards to the many stairs, up to the fifth floor and west of Hogwarts to reach the Ravenclaw tower. Once at the entrance, stood a bronze door. It was without any knobs or handles nor even a keyhole to be sighted. Only a bronze eagle knocker was displayed on the door.
"Um, excuse me Chester?" One of the first years piped up.
"Yes, Karasu."
"How do we get into the common rooms?" She asked what everyone thought but dared not to say out loud.
"Excellent question, I was about to get there," The corner of his lips turned ever so slightly, "Watch and learn, as this is how you will get in and out of the common room."
He faces the bronze eagle as it opens its beak to speak, "The more of me you have, the longer your life. The more of me you have, the less you have left."
Chester looks around, "Does anyone know what the answer is?"
He was testing them, which makes sense since, after all, Chester and the other prefects cannot look after them forever. Better if they learned now rather than later. Rowan's hand shot straight up, begging to be picked. Chester waited a few more seconds in case anyone else had the answer but alas he caved into and picked Rowan.
"Birthdays!" She answered.
"Correct!" The eagle acknowledged and opened the door for them. The common room was circular, scattered about are cosy, blue armchairs and bookshelves at the back. Mahogany desks ready to be used and studied upon are there. The most impressive, Juniper noted, was the ceiling. It twinkled with stars into an endless void of the night sky. She noticed further back to the bookshelves a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw, the founder.
"Ugh, another Moss?" Juniper heard one whisper, breaking her out of her dream bubble.
"What's she doing here?" Another whispered. A third chimed in, "Hufflepuff should've taken her in. They always take in the charity cases."
Juniper held her head up high. She won't allow them to see her break. No, she wasn't here for them. The sorting hat placed her here to help her find Jacob. A fourth-year girl with the prefect badge shining in their face showed up.
"Hi, I'm Heather Finch and I'm your other prefect," She introduced herself, "All first year girls, follow me to your dorm rooms."
The five girls gathered around Heather while the first-year boys were taken downstairs first by Chester to their dorm rooms. She guided them up and into a blue room, with five posters beds around the room. Their trunks and suitcases were placed in the middle of the room. Each could claim a bed, that will be theirs for the next seven years. Rowan and Juniper quickly bagged ones right next to each other. Alvina took one on the other side of Rowan while Badeea and the other girl, Tulip, claimed the last two. Alvina and Rowan were busy sorting out their clothes while the other three chucked through to find their pyjamas, leaving a mess in the midst.
"I guess we never properly introduce ourselves," Said Badeea as she unwrapped her headscarf. It's safe for her to do so in the presence of female company. She recalled her grandmother, Jadda, as she preferred to be called, in Algeria doing the same and even taught her how to wrap it properly, "I'm Badeea Ali."
"I'll go next," Said the red-haired girl. Her red was different from the boy earlier while his hair was fiery, hers was bright and alert, "My name is Tulip Karasu."
"Hi Badeea! Hi Tulip! It's nice to meet yous, I'm Juniper Moss," She introduced herself, keeping it cool and normal. Don’t want to seem over eager.
Tumblr media
"Yeah, we know who you are, Juniper Moss," Tulip stated. Badeea shook her head, "I don't. Am I suppose to know who you are, Juniper?"
"Probably, it's best if you don't," Juniper joked. Rowan joined and distracted them, "I'm Rowan. It's lovely to get to know you all."
The four chatted a bit, getting to know each other. Tulip looked over to the fifth girl who had been quiet this entire time, "What about you, what's your name?"
The girl looked a little stiff, "My name is Alvina Arcane-Zheng."
"Can't believe we have two from famous families in Ravenclaw."
"I believe the term used for ma family is infamous," Juniper laughed awkwardly. The rest chuckled nervously along. After Rowan realised it was way past midnight and argued that its best to go to bed now. They have to get up bright and early for their first class tomorrow. Once the girls settled down and the silence set in, Juniper tried to be quiet with her tossing and turning. She struggled to get her eyes shut. The quietness had allowed thoughts and feelings to be freed, which she has been suppressing this entire time, her mother. The anxiety being away from, not knowing if she is alright without her. Should Juniper write a letter to Tilly, her neighbour? She regretted not bringing that ugly stuffed toy rabbit. The washout rabbit brought her great comfort when she was alone with her thoughts.
After what seemed like an eternity has passed, Juniper finally could rest but before she knew it, her sleep was disturbed by a horrible sound. The ring from the alarm from Rowan's bedside table woke up all the girls except for Tulip. Juniper envied her ability to sleep so seamlessly through the rings. The girls get ready, Alvina and Badeea left while Juniper attempted to wake up the unconscious girl to no avail. They ended up leaving her, Juniper can feel her caffeine withdrawal kicking in.
"I can't believe they let you in after your brother got expelled and ruined Ravenclaw's reputation!" A voice from behind halted the girls. Juniper knew last night was too good to be true. A third-year boy stared down at them.
Before Juniper could open her mouth, Rowan stepped in front of her, like a shield. "Juniper will be an outstanding Ravenclaw." She said it like it was a fact. "I'm assuming you aren't since you're spending your time bullying first-years."
"Whatever!" He huffed, "I'll be keeping an eye on both of you."
The third-years took his leave. Both girls were bewildered by the whole confrontation.
"Sorry. I know you asked me to follow your lead back in Diagon Alley, but I can't let anyone talk to my friend like that." Hearing the word 'my friend' filled up Juniper with mushy feelings.
"Thanks, Rowan." She assured Rowan. "Something tells me that won't be the last time someone brings up ma brother."
Juniper changed the subject as they walked out and climbed down the stairs to the great hall. "Have you had a chance tae look at yer timetable?"
"Yes! Can you believe it? Herbology with Professor Sprout, Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall..." She listed. "What are you most looking forwards to, Juniper?"
Juniper thought about it. She realised that she actually never thought about it. Her mind has always focused on finding Jacob so there was little room for other things to occupy.
"I just want tae learn spells and potions as fast as possible, so I can use them to find ma brother, and make sure he's okay." The blue-haired answered.
"We'll learn some really useful and powerful spells in Charms Class." Rowan started, "Luckily, our first class is Charms!"
Once the breakfast and a coffee had been devoured, the two girls made their way to the east towers of the castle. Inside the classroom, the sits were situated on either side as long rows. At the back, a desk with books stacked on top and in front arranged like a staircase, stood Professor Flitwick, their head of the house.
"Here we go, Juniper. Our first step to becoming great witches." She whispered.
As they were picking their seats, she passed by Professor Flitwick. "Pleased to meet you, Professor Flitwick. I'm really looking forward to Charms."
"You're Miss Moss!" He recognised. "If you're anything like your brother, you will do just fine. He was one of my most skilled students."
It pleased Juniper to hear something positive was said about Jacob however, she could sense a big ‘but’ come. "That being said, he was also one of my most rebellious students. Out of curiousity, are you going to follow the rules?"
Juniper realised that the Professor was sniffing out if she will just be as rebellious as Jacob. She knew it would too good to be true.
"I'll do ma best to follow the rules, but I can't make any guarantees." She said honestly, perhaps a little too honest.
"Very well, Miss Moss. Please have a seat. Class is about to begin."
Juniper hurried over next to Rowan. The classroom seem to be split she noticed. Ravenclaws were on the right side while Gryffindors were on the left side. A flash of fiery red was spotted in the corner of her eyes. Charles Weasley, the boy from yesterday. Juniper knew it was rude to stare from her own experience but she can't help but be drawn to the colour. Rowan nudged her and Juniper swiftly averted her eyes to the teacher.
"Welcome to your very first Charms Class at Hogwarts. I will be your instructor, Professor Flitwick." He welcomed the class. "Please pay close attention to the instruction, and take great care practising the spells you learn. Today we will be learning a very important spell known as the Wand-Lighting Charm. This charm is useful in dark places, whether you are searching a shadowy room for hidden dangers or trying to find a scroll that rolled under the sofa. Lumos!"
Professor Flitwick started explaining the lore behind Lumos and demonstrated the stance. Juniper learned that the wand-lighting charm was first displayed by Levine Monkstanley in 1772. Of course, Rowan already knew that and even added more about Levina.
"I think I'm ready to try the wand-lighting charm." Rowan said determinedly.
"Lumos!"
A blue light flickered on, unlike some others, the light stayed.
"Wow! Look at your Lumos! This is smashing!" Juniper almost squealed for joy for her friend.
"Let's see yours, Juniper."
Juniper took her hornbeam wand, mimicking the motions Professor Flitwick showed earlier. The pressure was on her now to conjure up the first spell.
"Lumos!" She said. A bright light beamed from the tip of her wand. Like a star in the dusty classroom. Audible gasps were echoed in the room. A wow came out from Rowan.
"Well done, Miss Moss. That's the best execution of the wand-lighting charm I've seen from a first-year in quite some time." He praised the first-year. Juniper was surprised by the brightness herself or that even worked in the first place. "Ten points to Ravenclaw."
"Nice work, Juniper! I read everything I could find on the wand-lighting charm, and yours was still better. You're a natural." Juniper felt a little overwhelmed by the praise. "You already got us ten house points! You said you want to learn from the other Ravenclaws, but I think we could all learn something from you."
Her cheeks turned a bright pink shade, all these compliments made her unsure how to properly react. "Ta, I really don't know what tae say. Potions is next. I have a feeling facing Snape won't be so easy..."
The boom of the bell was sounded throughout Hogwarts, indicating the end of the period. Potions class is located deep down in the dungeons. Juniper quickly excused herself to the girl's loo and told Rowan to just go ahead. She does the awkward half run, half walk to the dungeons. The lights dimmed more and were only illuminated by the fire. As she drew closer, Juniper saw the familiar figure of Rowan alongside another whom she doesn't recognise.
"Admit it!" The other figure, a Slytherin girl on closer inspection demanded.
"I can't." Rowan was adamant in her statement.
"Say I'm the most powerful witch at Hogwarts!" Did she really say that? Juniper wasn't sure if this girl was being serious or not. Regardless, she wanted to laugh at it.
"It's logically impossible! I've made numerous lists of powerful witches at Hogwarts based on multiple factors." That sounded very like Rowan. It just made her laugh out loud even more but felt inappropriate to laugh right now. "You're less powerful than Professor McGonagall, Professor Sprout, Madam Hooch, Madam Pomfrey, every single seventh-year. You're just a first-year like me." Rowan argued.
The Slytherin girl scoffed, "I'm nothing like you."
"Get away from her." Juniper stood between the two girls.
"Who do you think you are?" She demanded. ‘Who do you think you are’, Juniper wanted to retort back.
"Juniper is the one who should be claiming to be the best witch. Professor Flitwick said she cast the best wand-lighting charm of any first-year." Rowan stepped in.
"Juniper?" The name rolled off her tongue with disgust. "Now I know exactly who you are. You're Juniper moss. Your brother lost his mind, disgraced his house, got expelled from, and was never heard from again." The Slytherin listed. Hearing that Jacob had lost his mind, that he's crazy made Juniper's blood boil. The rest she could get over, no problem.
"Who are you?" She acted confused. Juniper didn't want to know anymore from this vile girl.
"Merula Snyde. First-year Slytherin. The best witch at Hogwarts." The Ravenclaw rolled her eyes at 'best witch'. Rowan already established why she wasn't, but Merula seem so entranced by this belief. "I overheard the professors whispering about you at the Feast. I suppose you think you're better than me. I should put you out of your misery before you ruin Hogwarts like your brother tried to."
Ah, Juniper was right about Merula. Delusional.
"I don't want any trouble." She just wants to get to potions class with Rowan. They are late enough as it is.
"You don't have a choice." Why did Juniper have the feeling that there will be more inconveniences caused by this girl? Juniper guessed that the only language Merula speaks is intimidation.
"You're just afraid I'm mer powerful than you." Juniper taunted.
Bingo. "Let's find out who's more powerful right now." She fell for it. Merula was ready to grab her wand and fight her. Pathetic, Juniper thought. She could use her fists just as easily.
"Moss." A sour voice belonging to a sour man interrupted them. "I knew you would be trouble."
"Professor Snape!" Merula quickly moved her hand away from her robes.
Despite his sourness, Juniper sincerely hoped that Professor Snape would be fair. "Merula was bullying ma friend, Professor."
"Get to potion class. Be thankful you aren't headed to detention." He stated coldly and leaves them. Merula gave the two Ravenclaw girls a mean look and follow behind the professor.
"Thanks for standing up for me, Juniper. I've never been very strong." Juniper wanted to hug her friend tight but feared Snape's watchful eye. But something about what Merula said earlier bugged her.
"Did you hear what Merula said? Why would the professors be talking 'bout me?" Juniper wondered.
"I don't know, but we better get to potions. We're in enough trouble as it is." Agreed with Rowan, they run inside the classroom. Due to their tardiness which was by no means their fault, the tables were all filled up except for the seats next to Merula. Juniper groaned inwardly.
Snape glared at them before starting, "This is your first potions class, and based on the bewildered look in your eyes, this could very well be your last. Unlike your other classes, this is not a place for foolish wand-waving, and intolerable screeching of mispronounced incantation." He certainly has a flair for the dramatics. Maybe his drama career didn't work out well hence why he's scaring first-years Juniper liked to imagine. "You are here to learn the subtle science and exact art of potion-making. Ensure the senses. Bewitch the mind. Keep your mouths shut. Today you will produce a simple cure for boils potion. Know that I expect perfection. And know that there will be severe consequences for failing to meet my expectations. Let us begin."
Students gathered around Snape one table at a time to observe his example that they are expected to replicate perfectly.
"You think you're so special, but you're already guaranteed to fail, Moss." Not this again. Juniper just wanted potions to be over and done with so she could head to her next class.
"What's that suppose to mean?" Juniper asked.
"You'll see..." The Slytherin smirked. She didn't like the sound of that one bit.
"Ignore her, Juniper. After getting reprimanded by Snape, we need to brew this potion perfectly." Rowan emphasised.
They gathered at the crowd, watching how Snape rolled up his sleeves as he was getting six snake fangs to crush into fine powders. Juniper mentally noted all the ingredients and their order. The way he was doing it seemed no different to cooking and a bit of mental maths. Once the demonstration was over the two Ravenclaws went back to their seats. Merula greeted them with a gleeful grin. She got back to the table rather quickly.
Juniper got six snake fangs, crushed them with the mortar and pestle. As she went through the steps, Juniper always double-checked with Rowan for each step. Both paranoid by Snape. Once the potion was done, a pink smoke was to be seen. It was exactly right.
"It worked! I brewed ma first potion!" She looked over at Rowan's cauldron. Her's was the same shade of pink too.
"Mines worked too!" Rowan said excitedly. The smoke colour changed and bubbles were brewing. Something in her gut, something told it was wrong. "Wait...What's happening?"
Rowan looked over at her cauldron with concern. "Did you add bulbadox powder? From my studies, this looks like the beginnings of the explosive reaction caused by adding bulbadox powder..."
Tumblr media
"Explosive?!" Juniper exclaimed. The cauldron blew to big bits, almost hitting her and Rowan. The green liquid oozed on the table.
Merula laughed, "Congratulations. You have cured the table of boils."
It was her, Juniper had no doubt in her mind Merula sabotaged her. Snape marched over, Juniper knew her time at Hogwarts was over before it had even begun.
"You should have never been allowed inside of my classroom, Moss. You are somehow even worse than your brother." Snape raised his voice. "Ten points from Ravenclaw! What do you have to say for yourself?"
Juniper took this chance to defend herself, "I ken Merula Snyde did something to ma cauldron."
"Take responsibility for your incompetence, Moss." Professor Snape was not interested in what she had to say.
"I would, but Merula threatened me and ma friend, and said she would do something to make sure I failed in potions. She's threatened by me cause she thinks I might be a mere powerful witch." Juniper desperately explained.
Snape turned to Merula, "Is this true, Miss Snyde?"
"Absolutely not, Professor. Moss is clearly just as mad as her brother. And just as driven to ruin everything in Hogwarts." The audacity. Lying to a teacher straight to his face. Juniper wanted to smack her right there and then.
"Your family has represented Slytherin well, Miss Snyde. I will be watching you closely to ensure you do the same." Of course, favouritism. Juniper wanted to give Slytherin a chance, she did. But the head of house choosed the students of their house. But her faith in Slytherin was waning.
"You made the right choice by telling him about Merula. I'm sure you would have lost more house points if you didn't." Rowan was visibly upset by the situation too.
"It's only going to get worse, Moss." Merula taunted. "You should have known that coating your cauldron with bulbadox powder would make your potion explode. I certainly did. Now there's no doubt that I'm the most important first-year, and you're nothing but a disgrace just like your brother."
Juniper was right, Merula Snyde was behind this whole fiasco. It seems the Slytherin girl was adamant about getting rid of Juniper. The bell tolled again, time for a short break.
"Dismissed. I've had enough of all you for one day." The students scurried out. Juniper feared the wrath of the fellow Ravenclaws for her gaining and losing ten hours points at the same time. It seems life is going to be a lot more difficult than Juniper thought.

The Ghosts of Fiery Cloud Manor, Chapter 4: Fiery Cloud Manor at Night
Summary: Literally what it says on the tin.
AO3
-_-
Xiaojiao gasped when the house, gate and doors still flung wide open, came into view. "You weren't kidding when you said this place was epic!"
"It gets better when you see the inside." Xiaotian promised.
That was an understatement. Xiaojiao was soon running around, streaming the manor with awestruck gasps and squeals of excitement. Spindrax, looking like Xiaojiao had hung the moon, and Xiaotian followed her. "Oh, you poor neglected beauty!" she said, stuffing her phone in his hands to grab and cuddle a decorative sword. "Who just abandoned you?!"
"Come on," Xiaotian said, turning the camera to wave bye before turning off the stream. "The poor neglected beauty will be waiting for you!" Xiaojiao whined, putting the sword back and giving it a longing stroke.
“You weren’t kidding when you said there wouldn’t be much,” Spindrax noted, reaching for the nearest gas lamp. She scraped her nail over the grime. Underneath was the gleam of brass.
“And that’s why we should get to work! Come one, the supplies are in the front.”
As much as he had enjoyed the manor alone, it was even more fun to have company. The trio set to work putting a shine on the ballroom's floor, setting a rhythm in their work that was briefly stopped to skate in their socks across the floor because polished ballroom floors and music demanded it. Then they turned to try to clean those massive mirrors. “Is there a ladder?” Spindrax asked. “Like, maybe in a garden shed?”
“Probably in the back,” Xiaotian said, leading them to the kitchen. “I haven’t looked out there-”
He opened the door and the three gaped.
The backyard was an overgrown mess, much worse than the front yard and to the point that they couldn't see if there was a shed. The plants would require much more weed killer than the measly little bottle he had gotten at the hardware store. Xiaotian slammed the door shut. “The mirrors can wait,” he said and the girls nodded their agreement.
They ended up spending the rest of the day in the library, Xiaojiao cataloging the books while Xiaotian and Spindrax dusted the shelves. (Once, the eldest girl had to take out a spider.) Questions were thrown at him about the house, but they were always tinged with respect. For some reason, that made him feel better.
Sunset came too soon. As he locked the door, he found himself giving the knockers a fond stroke. “Yes, your boyfriend’s very cute,” Xiaojiao said with a grin. “Come on, dinner’s waiting.”
Dinner was warm and cozy and Xiaotian was satisfied as he stripped down into his pajamas. He was so glad his friends liked Fiery Cloud. He wasn’t sure why it mattered, but he was glad nonetheless.
Then his phone started ringing.
Xiaotian yelped when he picked it up, finding it was BAO (DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT). Despite the warning label he had placed on her contact, he found himself answering. “Hello?”
“Xiaotain.” His sister’s voice was sharp and clinical. “It was about time you responded.”
“I don’t want you calling me.” It was his first response. “Please, leave me alone.” He tried to keep his voice even. No need to shout and have Xiaojiao interrupt.
There was an annoyed sigh. “I can’t, not until we figure out how we’re going to handle this situation.” This situation, as if she hadn’t caused it by telling their parents where he was even though he had asked her not to. “Believe me, I didn’t know Father was planning to attack you.”
“Except he did because you told him.”
There was an annoyed snarl. “Xiaotian, if you would just apologize, we can work on this together. You'll have to e-”
He hung up before Bao could finish her sentence. Xiaotian stared at his phone before he realized he was trembling, dropping his phone. Then he was running out of the room, past the monkey, barely hearing Syntax’s confused calls of his name when he hit the main floor.
He was halfway up the trail before he realized where he was going. "Please let me in, please let me in, please let me in…" Xiaotian chanted, slamming open the gate and rushing up the stairs and through the doors. He slammed the doors shut and then he was a little ball against them, muffling sobs into his knees.
The only witness was the house.
Finally, his tears were spent. A chilly wind blew and Xiaotian shivered. He had forgotten his jacket back into his room. He got to his feet and started walking. Movement would warm him up and he had never seen Fiery Cloud at night.
It was dark, but the moonlight coming through the windows made it a bit lighter. He drank it in, feeling like he was walking between two realms entirely. Sticking his hands in his pockets revealed that he had brought his phone.
The music made it better, in his opinion.
Soon, Xiaotian was dancing along to the music, singing along to some of the lyrics as he went. At one point, he slammed his hands up-
And hit the wall hard.
Xiaotian yelped, watching a lamp just drop off the wall and hit the basement door. The glass shattered across the floor. He gaped in horror at the damage, a squeak escaping him when the knob of the basement door just...fell off. "Oh no…" He groaned, scrambling over to try and see if he could reattach the knob.
But all of his fussing grew distracted when the basement door creaked open under his attentions. Xiaotian got to his feet, staring at the darkness below. The music was still playing, but it was nothing compared to the urge to go down there. He pulled out his phone and flicked on his flashlight, (ignoring how it's presence turned this 'cool two realms' into 'horror movie'), and descended down.
The basement was dark, dusty, and cold. At first, all he saw was that. But as his eyes adjusted and his flashlight moved, he could make out hundreds of jars and a few barrels. This must've been the storage for winter.
Then he moved around a corner.
He froze.
Because grass was tickling his toes and the air was warmer here.
And, right in front of him, gleaming in the darkness, was a staff.
