The Spotted Lake, or Kliluk, is a mysterious patterned body of water located between the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys in British Columbia’s desert. It is one of the most remarkable natural wonders in the world. Every year in summer, the lake sports colourful pools of water in gorgeous hues of green, blue and yellow. It measures 0.16 miles wide by 0.43 miles long with a combined shore length of around 1 mile.

Spotted Kliluk Lake, Canada
Spotted Lake Kliluk, Canada, is a sacred site for the valley's indigenous people. In summer, the pond takes on an unusual appearance when the water evaporates and the high concentration of minerals changes the color of the water. The color of small bodies of water mainly depends on the mineral composition of the water.
The concentration of minerals in the waters of the spotted lake is much higher than in any other lake in the world. Even the famous multi-colored Kelimutu lakes are inferior to Klilyuk lake in terms of the amount of minerals in the water. Under the influence of natural conditions, rather strong deposits of chemical compounds are formed at the edges of the puddles, as a result of which peculiar wells are formed, reminiscent of the breakwaters of the Caño Cristales River in Colombia. Until 2001, in the summer you could even walk between colorful puddles.
Despite the abundance of chemical compounds, or rather even due to this, the waters of Kliluk Lake have significant healing and healing properties. For this, the Indians themselves consider the spotted lake sacred. Previously, the lake and its surroundings belonged to a certain citizen Ernest Smith. And everything would be fine if in 1979 he did not plan to organize a teleological resort on the shore of the lake, set it up around hotels and even organize the development of minerals on an industrial scale. Since during the Second World War, the minerals of the lakes were used for the production of ammunition. Local Indians, of course, opposed such plans and for two decades have been bargaining with the owner of the lake. At the end of 2001, the natives managed to buy the sacred Kliluk Lake for 720 thousand dollars.
Naturally, they did not build hotels, much less develop minerals. They acted much more logically — they surrounded the lake with barbed wire and denied access to it for mad tourists from all over the world. Now only Indians can enjoy all the benefits of the spotted lake. Travelers can contemplate this attraction from the nearby trail. You can also see a sign at the entrance to the lake with a description of its medicinal properties.

5, 23, 28? :)
5. favourite song in your native language?
I’m an anglophone. We’re not exactly starved for songs in my native language. So let me narrow the scope and then still cheat. My favourite songs performed by Canadians are:
“Northwest Passage” - Stan Rogers
“River” - Joni Mitchell
“Consequence Free” - Great Big Sea
And for traditional folk: “I’se the B’y,” “Donkey Riding,” and “The Kettle Valley Line.”
23. which alcoholic beverage is the favoured one in your country?
Conforming to stereotype: beer.
28. does your country have a lot of lakes, mountains, rivers? do you have favourites?
Oh, you bet we do! So many. I’m partial to Okanagan Lake, Chilko Lake, and Kliluk (a.k.a. Spotted Lake); the Rockies and the Cariboos; and the Fraser River.
Thanks for asking!
Ask me things!
