Summary: minecraft. you can make just about anything in that game. well what do some genshin characters make?

Warnings? Nope! But Wanderer’s and Xiao’s aren’t as long as the others because i don’t have them and i am not interested in getting them so i do not know what they are really like. sorry!

Modern AU!

Kaveh

- this man is a literal architect, so it is easy to say that he will do great. he can make a lot of things, and they look amazing.

- i can imagine he would try to recreate his ‘magnum opus,’ aka The Palace of Alcazarzaray, in the game. he even put chairs down for people to wait. because there aren’t any in genshin.

- if he could, he would so get some furniture mods to make the place really pop.

- he would and has, no doubt.

- give him a few ideas and a prompt and he will be away building within minutes.

- i can see him making a security system so that Alhaitham doesn’t come in and.. do anything.

- he is so independent in minecraft it is unreal, because he can’t get into dept, he is loaded with gold, diamonds, emeralds, etc.

- he would definitely build with those materials.

- if he was in a server or realm, he would definitely work with Dori, and they would hoard all sorts of loot, of course make The Palace of Alcazarzary again with emerald and gold, it may take time, but they’re so committed to it.

- has quarrels over discord with Alhaitham about him even coming near the premises.

- “Alhaitham?! Why are you here?! You better not take any of our stuff!”

- “hm” he was merely looking around, he was interested, but never made it known.

Alhaitham

- definitely a casual gamer, and his favourite game mode is survival, or if he’s feeling adventurous, hardcore.

- if on creative, he’ll probably make a library with actual readable content, it’s a lot of work to do, but it’s something he’s definitely willing to commit to.

- ahem

- if on a new survival world, with Kaveh of course, they would have to share a house until they get enough resources to split and make an area their own.

- however, Alhaitham would make a normal, somewhat aesthetically pleasing house, and Kaveh… would either make a hole in the ground so that mobs won’t find him, or make a room in the house which is bigger than Alhaithams.

- “ugh, what now Alhaitham, can i not make my area of the house mine?”

- “i never said you couldn’t”

- but his face and tone did.

- if on a server or realm, he would go solo.

- definitely get shoo’ed away if he was near Kaveh and Dori’s place.

- he was only curious.

- definitely hangs out with Cyno and Tighnari in the jungle biome Tighnari insisted he and Cyno make their base.

- definitely has a dog that follows him around, and it goes by the name of Wafi, and so help anything that hits that poor creature, because Alhaitham will go full Feeble Scholar.

-also give him a chance and he would install an emerald weapon mod so that he can have his sword in game. sadly, you can’t attack with dendro.

Albedo (and Klee)

- Albedo is the redstone and potions master, no doubt about it and you can’t ever change my mind.

- if his world was expanded beyond, with complex things made, he would have to have certain permissions disabled for Klee who frequently visits his world, because he spends so much time on some things, the pride he holds for them all are obvious, and if something were to happen… uh…

- he has a world especially for Klee, where she blows things up until it reaches bedrock, and of course she tried to break the bedrock, but Albedo has to break it to her that it can’t be broken.

- “but you’re a scientist, surely you can break it!”

- “th-that isn’t how it works” he smiled as he spoke.

- he would test potions on Klee, the good kind, like night vision, leaping and others.

- on the topic of leaping, she would definitely have a place in Albedos main world full of rabbits, and would try to name them all Jumpy Dumpty.

- on a server or realm, Klee would have a piece of land all to herself so she can blow things up without it damaging everyone else’s areas.

- Albedo’s base is home to the Nether portal, so whenever others would come to the portal, they were always welcome to get some fire resistance potions or enchanted weapons, etc.

- oh, and as well as the End portal.

- he is the keeper of the Ender Dragon egg so that no one else loses it, he builds an entire hidden room for it that literally no one else can find.

- shares his base with Jean, he has the scientific side of it.

- she observes Klee too to make sure she doesn’t clash with others.

- Jean and Albedo are the owners of the server/realm.

Itto

- two words, cow farm

- this man has as many cows as one could imagine, in his house, a cave, he lives with a cow named Ushi.

- of course still the Gang are there.

- they have their own houses, in a small town like area near a village, and they actually are at peace with them, they don’t take things from their chests.

- the worst they do is take their crops, but they do eventually plant more in its place.

- their best type of weapon is stone, mainly because they don’t have the best luck when it comes to mining, they either find iron or better but lose it after falling down a ravine or die from a mob

- especially in the Nether, they were a magnet for mobs.

- Itto has died the most in game out of them all.

- however, Kuki is the exact opposite, she is extremely lucky when it comes to mining and general in game experience, but is hesitant to share her things with the gang because of their luck and probably of forgetting where they put things. she doesn’t want to risk it.

- she learnt her lesson after she let Itto borrow her diamond pick axe to go and get some materials from their nearby mine, but he accidentally fell into some lava and lost everything he had on him.

- thus him begging Kuki for forgiveness, just like every other time.

- in a server or realm, Itto forgets to put some sources of light in places, so some mobs will spawn, he freaks out when creepers spawn, thus him not killing them, and thus a part of his home blowing up.

- i can see Itto fending off a creeper and it blows up in his storage room, and the chests are full of torches, thus making his game lag when they all drop, making Itto’s microphone audio cut out when the lag spikes.

- hey, his computer isn’t the best, but he’s saving up for a better one, trust me.

- he’s doing his best.

Wanderer

- he doesn’t have a set base, he has weapons, torches, food and a bed for his travels.

- sometimes camps in a cave when he doesn’t know where to go next.

- if he gets blown up or killed by something else in a cave or anywhere else, he will rage quit, and i mean rage quit.

- definitely the one to go to the end and find the boat that has the elytra, and uses it all the time.

- definitely doesn’t get lost, while trying to find the portal back.

- this goes for the server and realm too, if you see him glide past your base every now and then, then no you didn’t, he chooses not to hang out with anyone.

- but word spread around about the game and caught Nahida’s ears, so she joined and played with Wanderer a lot, her base is made of quartz and emerald, she even made a small base by hers for Wanderer for whenever he visits her.

- he doesn’t show it but he is grateful for it.

Xiao

- the sole reason why Albedo makes the leaping potion, Xiao has satisfaction of sneaking behind mobs and attack them.

- the mob he has tension with most is the enderman, as they can both sort of teleport, even if Xiao uses ender pearls for the skill.

- he solely comes out at night, and his base on the top of the highest mountain in his world, even if it’s small, it’s a place he can hide until night time, however, this doesn’t work well in a server or realm when others want to sleep and pass the night, Xiao is out hunting for loot, especially endermen.

- has come across Wanderer on his travels, they sometimes travel together, but they don’t communicate to each other, only on some occasions.

- “Huh! You!”

- “Hmph” Wanderer muses.

Diluc

- on his own, he is fully capable of taking down pillagers and over taking the woodland mansion to make his own, and always makes secret rooms despite it only him playing on the world, these rooms contain valuable look, this look containing many fire aspect weapons, especially swords.

- when he first started this world, with it being survival, he struggled to find food and make it edible.

- but when more steady on his own, most definitely never runs out of food as he has plenty of farms to work on.

- and most of them are automated.

- like Xiao, prefers and goes out a lot during the night.

- he tested himself and put his game mode on hard, the mansion is by a decent size village, so he protects it all he can, even with iron golems.

- he definitely trades with the villagers too, and of course gets the ‘master’ trade level on each one too, and STILL has stacks of materials left.

- this guy isn’t scared to go to bedrock level and risk himself to get materials. Like Alhaitham, he has dogs, not mentioning them because of how many.

- oh, i forgot to say, Kaeya visits. Diluc isn’t happy (when is he ever) about this, but instead of banishing him from the premises, he has general rules, which Kaeya does respect and follow, thus them both getting along… sort of.

- in a server or realm, Kaeya does visit, but still respects rules and boundaries of everyone else, he stays with Jean, Albedo and Klee.

- apart from that, Diluc has enough food for everyone in the in game world if in need of emergencies.

- believe me when i say this, i can see him trading with Dori and Kaveh frequently, food for high valuables.

- even if they don’t really ever meet, all three of them are on good terms.

last post complaining about genshin's writing for the month Anyway i think blorbofication happening in canon is the best way i could describe a lot of the problems i have with it ex. kaeya's relationship with diluc (or klee) is almost the only focus we get on him now, other than his brief appearance in the sumeru archon quest which was just saying his backstory basically with very little actual reaction or characterization on his part OR dainsleif's (also a problem i have in the albedo homunculus reveal in shadows amidst snowstorms). i haven't done his hangout because i. don't care enough to sit through an hour for each route with the quality of content hoyoverse puts out but looking at the ending options i feel like. they missed the opportunity to expand on things we already had for kaeya in favor of Oh he babysits klee! Oh albedo is here! Spend money to pull albedo!Venti cameo! What do you mean him and amber have a complicated dynamic. What do you mean he's apparently beloved by the elderly of mondstadt and the one who wraps up all the incidents there. What do you mean bennett trusts him as an omniscient big brother according to his official cn character profile. We made him talk to diluc again isn't that enough kaeya for you? and it sucks because kaeya feels like a rubik's cube with an onion's layers and like one of their best character personalities in content where he's actually kaeya and not just diluc's brother who is sad and also pretty! we never see anything about his relationship with jean, who he is the Most Trusted Aide of, or mondstadt at large! because every day we get closer to fanon kaeya being canon kaeya and it's just. You can have canon kaeya and fanon kaeya will follow but if fanon kaeya is at the forefront you're just immediately losing all that depth and it's going nowhere

i normally like when they foreshadow things like this esp since mini durin and scara are parallels and scara and albedo are foils yk but im so fucking serious when i say albedos story has always always always shined in her relationship w her family thats literally the core of it and im so fucking terrified of them getting caught up in making sure other characters get enough screen time that they dont do his particular narrative justice.

im so serious im going to be crawling in mhy's vents if albedo's family and their relationship w each other isnt focused on in his story's conclusion

there were three reasons why klee loved having you as her babysitter.

one: you didn’t punish her with ‘solitary confinement’ when she accidentally splattered paint on the walls, much unlike big brother albedo’s coworker— miss jean.

two: you were pretty and great fun to play with. 

three: having you over meant big brother albedo was happy! that pink hue on his cheeks must mean he loves you, right? if big brother was happy, then klee was even happier! now, if only you could come over more often so that she could avoid miss jean big brother could come out of his room more often instead of staying in there with his experiments…

klee knew there were also three reasons why albedo loved having you help babysit her.

one: you knew exactly how to calm her down and keep her occupied with activities that were… less destructive than what she normally endeavoured to do.

two: klee loved having you over.

three: it gave him opportunities to sit at one side and fill up his sketchbook with more drawings (featuring you). though he’d vehemently deny it ever happened if you asked. weird.

albedo watches from afar as you run after a really excited klee– well, who wouldn’t? it was a beautiful day, with yet another year nearing its end, the sun was out, and the snow on the cold ground had thickened just enough, and– 

“no, klee, don’t eat the snow!” his eyes zeros in on a frantic you holding klee’s wrist, fretting like a worried parent, your cries of “it’s dirty, you don’t know what’s been on it, don’t pick it up off the ground!” going unheard under bubbly peals of laughter. 

a fond smile grows on his face. what a sight to behold. a page of his sketchbook is filled.

he observes as you chase after klee armed with a snowball, while she runs to take cover behind the little snowman you both made not too long ago, wild shouts of merriment filling the air. his pencil moves smoothly on the new page of his sketchbook. it would’ve been a shame if he were unable to capture this lovely scene before him.

he looks over at your cold, flushed faces and noses red from the biting cold, glee all over your face as you bend, hands on knees, panting out a “i think i need a break,” before collapsing onto the snow spreadeagled. klee, concerned for your health, comes running over, only to be dragged down onto the ground with a surprise tickle attack from you– it soon becomes a lesson on how to make the perfect snow angel. an angelic scene, if he said so himself. he flips to a new page on his sketchbook.

when you both had fully exhausted yourselves, trudging back up to the comfort of the house, klee stops and points at something over his head. confused, he looks up– what should have been a glaucous blue bauble had somehow been replaced by an all-too-familiar looking plant. 

you stop right in front of him just as he feels his heart stop, your lips parting– would words he’s been yearning so long for come out of your mouth? he feels a tingle on the back of his neck— a familiar sensation, no doubt— was it nerves? was it your hand?

nope, none of that.

he shivers as you mash a snowball (previously hidden in the palm of your hand) into the back of his neck, your lips upturned in a cheeky grin— but before he can react, you lean in and press a chaste kiss to his cheek. 

he doesn’t hear the badly-stifled giggles from klee, who peeked out from behind a wall with a devious grin, nor does he feel his sketchbook slipping from his hand.

albedo thinks he might be in love.

4.8 part 4

so i'm not a fan of dumping a bunch of character cameos at the end of an event trend they got going on to begin with but genuinely what the hell was up with that sumeru quest? it was so random??? especially not being voiced it felt like a cheap way to cameo the entire sumeru cast for some unfathomable reason. even if it is foreshadowing some future plot it was way too vague and random to be even remotely enjoyable.

as an aside i'm not one to entertain conspiracy theories but the whole thing about using the names of historical figures with slight tweaks did feel rather... pointed, or at the very least ironic

anyways. ignoring the entire sumeru shenanigans even the random dump of characters in simulanka felt really forced and i absolutely haaaaaate when they do that. as far as simulanka goes they really could have stopped at part 3

mona and albedo/klee were really the only characters where it made sense for them to be there given their close relation with hexenzirkel. but since they were there i do kinda wish we got wanderer actually having a real conversation with mona and fischl to if nothing else give a nod to the unreconciled stars event from 1.1. i also want mona and wanderer to be friends/acquainted, not necessarily in a ship way but more i think they have a funny/interesting dynamic together re: their views on fate.

and we did get the albedo x wanderer interaction but it was pretty anticlimatic lol. well whatever i can live with what they gave us with small durin. but i am intrigued and very 👀👀👀 by the HEAVY implications of a future durin resurrection plot eventually happening which will involve both albedo and wanderer - imo those two have amongst the best lore if not THE best lore in the game so it'll be really fun to see their worlds collide more directly. this was not on my genshin plot bingo card at all but i'm very into it. at this rate though it'll probably happen after snezheneya is released or something lmaooo (and actually thinking about it durin's resurrection would be fitting to happen when shit inevitably hits the fan during/post-snezhneya/at whatever point we need all of teyvat involved and its not just the current nation's problems).

As of today, it's officially been one year since me and my bestie Zhelday began writing our first collaboration fic, The Alliance of Misfits!

It's a Genshin Impact/Bad Batch fic that focuses on the adventures of Abyss Aether, Albedo and Klee, Faruzan, Tighnari, Ganyu and the Shogun as they try to survive- with the help of the Bad Batch- in the world of Star Wars. Plus, there's also a new character created by Zhel- Murra Roi, a Zabrak who's sticking with the Bad Batch for a while to stay safe from the Empire, and makes fast friends with Klee and Omega.

Why am I making a post about it??? Well...

It's getting a sequel!

Now that the drama is over, with the help of Aether, we're taking a reverse trip- off to Teyvat, to cool off and make sure they didn't miss anything important. Due to the increase in character cameos the Shogun and Aether aren't gonna be around, and Fontaine isn't getting a spotlight this time around either, but all your favourite friends from Mondstadt, Liyue, and Sumeru are gonna show! It's gonna take a lot less serious of a tone to give these characters some well-deserved rest.

It's slow progress due to school stuff getting into the way, so it doesn't have a release date for now. But it's coming.

The Alliance of Misfits Part 2 is on the way!

OK, Veluriyam Mirage is done, aside from the minigames that won’t finish unlocking until Tuesday. 

In regard to the event story, it’s that Genshin-specific level of quality that you could never call good, but it isn’t outrageously awful enough to really call bad either. It’s just nothing in particular, which also makes it a massive waste of time. 

Not only is this entire event purely about NPCs, most of the NPCs aren’t even real people. They’re basically just interactive records and we have no reason to believe they have any consciousness or anything. So stuff like coaching them through their emotional hurdles is hilariously pointless. Every playable character is basically just cameoing with nothing being added to them, and pretty much the best you can hope for is Klee being cute small child and Kaeya being gentle and patient with her. And Idyia is..... man. I don’t think we even got any useful lore here. We were just told her character traits about five times and then she got better. 

I would also call out that the gameplay gimmicks were particularly tedious in a lot of places. The railways are slow as heck, the central ferris wheel is way worse, and I sure hope you liked the plays that the ravens did in GAA 2 because here we go again. 

There are parts that are charming, certainly. I liked the Hydro Eidolons a lot. And the stuff Idyia says toward the end is very reminiscent of other things we’ve heard in Genshin, to the point that you could even trick yourself into thinking there’s a theme or message going on (there isn’t, of course, but still). However, it’s just not enough to justify this being so long and also the flagship event of the entire patch, ie the only real story content we’re getting for six weeks. 

Well, it’s very Genshin, I suppose.

Chapter 25

Klee’s boots skid against the polished floor. She lets out a determined huff, her eyes darting back to the impenetrable crystal wall that has spawned behind her. It shimmers, effectively cutting off her retreat. Her fingers tighten around the grip of her grenade launcher. “Guess there’s no going back that way,” she mutters, brushing a strand of hair from her face. 

Ahead, the warmly lit corridor stretches endlessly, the golden glow of light fixtures casting long shadows along the walls. “Gee, there sure are a lot of doors here. Finding Xiao is going to be a bit harder than I imagined,” she says to herself, approaching the first door to her right. 

Grasping the doorknob, she twists it firmly, but it doesn’t budge. “Locked, hm?” She moves to the next door, then the next, each handle refusing to turn. A glint of annoyance crosses her expression, her lips curling into a pout. “Well, if that’s how it’s going to be…” 

Taking a step back, she steadies her launcher with practiced ease, taking aim at the nearest stubborn door. Her gaze glistens with excitement as she prepares to fire, but a sound from the far end of the hallway freezes her in place.

Footsteps.

Klee twirls in the direction of the noise, her playful demeanor returning as she takes on a mischievous grin. “You found me pretty fast,” she comments, tilting her head as a small group of dark husks emerges at the end of the hall. They move in perfect synchronization, their lances at the ready. 

“I’ll give you one chance to tell me where Xiao is, alright?” Klee announces, aiming in their direction. She pauses, her finger hovering over the trigger. “Now, go ahead!” 

The husks offer no response. Their silence is unsettling, almost unnatural. Instead of heeding her words, they raise their lances and charge forward.

Klee sighs, shaking her head. “Guess you leave me no choice!”

Without hesitation, she unloads a burst of bombs. Explosions light up the corridor, fire and fragments tearing through the advancing group. The resulting chaos is deafening, but amidst the carnage, something unexpected happens. 

The walls surrounding Klee begin to crack. 

Thin fractures snake across the surface like veins of lightning, spreading rapidly with each explosion. A strange energy hums in the air, and before Klee can process what’s happening, the walls shatter into countless shards, dissolving into a dark void.

The world warps around her. Warm light fades into cold blackness, and she finds herself standing in an endless expanse of darkness. Hundreds of tiny, flickering lights hover in the distance, like stars scattered across an infinite abyss. The silence is oppressive, broken only by the sound of Klee’s quiet breaths. 

She grips her launcher tightly, her heart pounding in her chest. Taking a cautious step forward, her foot lands on nothingness, yet she remains supported. The space surrounding her feels both weightless and suffocating, as if she’s treading through the bottom of a thick waterbed. 

Just then, a faint vibration shakes the ground—or whatever the invisible surface beneath her feet may be. A distinct smell fills her nose, tinged with the sharp, metallic scent of electricity. 

From the depths of the darkness, a figure emerges. 

A violet Abyss Lector steps out from the flickering void, its form radiating with electric energy. Its focus locks onto Klee as it inches closer, and she takes a faltering step back. 

Raising her weapon, she quips, “I should’ve known you’d be behind something like this,” her tone defiant. 

The lector doesn’t respond. Instead, it raises a hand, summoning a crackling circle beneath Klee’s feet. Quickly noticing it, she leaps instinctively, just as a bolt of lightning slams into the spot she vacated. The shockwave sends her tumbling midair, but she recovers, launching a series of bombs in retaliation. 

The explosives detonate on impact, engulfing the lector in shrapnel and fire. For a moment, it staggers, its glowing form flickering, but it quickly regains composure. 

The lector counters, summoning a ring of electrified orbs. They orbit its body briefly before launching toward Klee in rapid succession. She dashes through the void, the orbs exploding behind her in blinding flashes of light. 

“Hey, that was pretty cool,” she calls out, grinning despite the tension. “But I’ve got something even cooler!” 

Quickly, she leaps into the air, summoning a larger-sized Jumpy Dumpty. The oversized explosive materializes in her hands, fragments piecing themselves together, and with a heavy swing, she propels it forward. 

The Jumpy Dumpty hits the floor, bounces once, twice, then bursts into a fiery explosion. Smaller bombs scatter across the void, peppering the lector with flames and forcing it to stagger back. 

However, the lector refuses to fall. It clenches its head in its grasp, its body beginning to pulse, glowing brighter with every passing second. A low hum builds in Klee’s ears, growing louder until a massive shockwave of lightning erupts from the entity, radiating outward in deadly arcs. 

Klee dashes to avoid the strikes, but amongst the unpredictable wave, one bolt catches her mid-step. Pain sears through her frame as electricity surges. She lets out a sharp cry, collapsing to the ground. Her limbs fall numb, her movements sluggish as the lingering energy crackles through her nerves, scorching her insides. 

Before she can even think of recovering, the lector advances, towering over her. It extends its hand, and electrified straps of energy coil around Klee’s frame, lifting her off the ground. She struggles against the restraint, flinching under the lingering pain, but its power is unyielding.

Oops for being the reason my lady is dreaming of love, but if I may offer my perspective as well on the dreaming matter?

Akin to my lady, it's mostly auto-filling in the blanks, but I do often dream about other people in regards to characters that are either their icons/blog themes, or in specifically my lady's case, some of their fragments that specifically relate to characters I relate to? Ah I am truly an embarrassment when it comes to explaining things, apologies.

And for my lady there's some very good animations in this hoyofair! Your knight's personal favorite after the inital watch throughs are the one with Lumine and Klee, and the musician Arlecchino, Childe, and Wriothesley one (Lady Furina's cameo? and performance with Venti in that one is so good!)

Oh this is wonderful! Notes are going in two different direction (at time of writing) and reads like a choose your own adventure story. This is like, two branches in making wow… I ended up expanding the first one with some sort of plot

Thinking of it now, since Fischl’s 2024 birthday short has her trying to get alcohol at The Cat’s Tail, saying, “let us give ourselves to the intoxication beyond this world's bearing, in celebration of the coming of this night!”

—imagine Fischl learning German profanities while trying to get a drink at a bar…

I mean, the short is portrayed as funny, but it’s so messed up that Fischl, a teenager, is trying to charm Diona, a bartender who’s a literal kid, into giving her alcohol…

Chapter 1

Set-up

Fischl POV. Fischl tries to get alcohol at The Cat’s Tail and wants to give in to “intoxication”. Diona and Oz obviously reject this. Then, while passing Angel’s Share, Fischl overhears Venti calling Diluc a Hurensohn and assumes Venti is praising Diluc for being the son of a wine tycoon*. In the next week or so, a bunch of adventurers get referred to as Hurensohn by Fischl who thinks it means something like son of nobility.

Fischl arc rising tension

General 3rd person POV. A rumour is spread around: Fischl the ever-friendly Investigator of the Adventurer’s Guild is suddenly swearing at her fellow adventurers because she went to the Angel’s Share in an attempt to buy alcohol once…

Some adventurers start assuming Fischl is drinking. Fischl’s reputation at the guild is affected and she doesn’t realize why. (She also doesn’t know what Hurensohn means). She explains she heard Venti refer to Diluc as such at Angel’s Share one time.

Chapter 2

Fischl arc raising tension / Diona subplot raising tension

Diluc POV. Diona learns of the rumours and is enraged at Diluc and Venti. Upon learning about this, Diluc investigates the rumours in the background to get the exact words said by the adventurers and Fischl. Diluc is then incredibly disappointed at the adventurers but even more so at Venti. He talks to Venti about his habits and forces him to apologize to Fischl. In his mind, he also plans to chat with Diona about her father later on.**

Fischl arc climax & resolution

Venti POV. Short scene. He apologizes to Fischl, and also tells her how Hurensohn isn’t a good word to say and how it doesn’t actually mean “son of nobility”. He teaches her a few positive German titles she can use to refer to her fellow adventurers. Fischl understands and stops calling fellow adventurers Hurensohn, and is also glad she learns some new words. Days later a song about Fischl gains popularity and quickly clears her name in the Adventurer’s Guild.***

Diluc POV. Diluc personally mixes a non-alcoholic drink for Fischl**** and briefly tells her about how alcoholism is bad while alluding to Kaeya as a negative example. He also tells her Dawn Winery offers lots of finely crafted mocktails that she could try instead. Fischl understands to some extent the negative effects of alcoholism. She quickly loses interest in it and instead grows excited about Dawn Winery’s mocktails. (We get some refreshing descriptions of mocktails sprinkled into this scene.)

Chapter 3

Diona subplot climax

Diluc POV. Diluc later talks to Diona in a peaceful area in Springvale in an awkward attempt to comfort her and clear up the misunderstanding regarding the rumours surrounding Fischl. He brings with him some cooked fish and a juice blend.

Diona POV. It gets rather tense as Diona quickly gets irritated due to the topic on alcohol and Diluc’s position as the Dawn Winery’s master.***** Oh, but the cooked fish and juice tastes really nice… Diluc tells her he doesn’t like alcohol either, to her surprise. Diona ends up talking about her father briefly and of course Diluc understands the pain of losing a father one once admired, as well as Mondstadt’s alcohol problem.

Diona POV. Next day, she goes to The Cat’s Tail to work again, but uhh… it turns out Kaeya is working part-time as the bartender, so Diona can take the week off and do whatever she wants. Kaeya says he has experience in mixing drinks and he’ll take care of the Cat’s Tail’s customers. (He sprinkles in some jokes about how it was a certain someone who had asked him to do this.****** Diona doesn’t catch this.) Then Diona goes out and plays with, um… Klee. We get some descriptions of her having fun and being a kid.

Notes

Ages… From Diona’s voicelines it feels like she’s a tween? Older than Teucer and Klee (psychologically), younger than Fischl. (In Chinese, Klee calls her big sister in Ballads and Brews. And Diona seems younger than Fischl but I wonder if it’s mostly because she’s got the kid model.) Fischl is not of drinking age, and she can still be immature from her voicelines, plus her facing her fears in her domain… Maybe mid-teen? Diluc left for 4 years after 18th birthday then returned, manhua takes place around 1 years before game’s start, so he’s 23 or so? Venti, oh Venti’s age is hard to guess since he’s a god and he looks younger than he is psychologically. Based on how he acts as Barbatos, I dunno, somewhere in his 20s?

* In a similar vein to Fischl thinking Rosaria was leading a prayer one night when she overheard her say “May you be struck down in the name of Lord Bartabos!” (“About Rosaria” voice-over)

** Diluc understands the pain of losing a father who you admire.

*** Venti’s talked about writing songs and tunes for the traveler a few times in his voice-overs.

**** Venti apologized for swearing but this doesn’t solve the problem of the underage Fischl trying to get alcohol at a bar, so Diluc aims to solve this. As a bartender and the head of the Dawn Winery, Diluc has offered the traveler drinks he’s invented in all his birthday letters so far, so he offers his services rather than words as a sign of affection. His character story also says “At Diluc's request, the Dawn Winery developed several alcohol-free beverages, a decision which was met with resounding approval from those in Mondstadt who could not drink alcohol but still wanted to partake in the drinking culture.” If Fischl wants to try alcohol for the taste, surely Diluc can make a mocktail that tastes just as good.

***** Since she’s in denial thinking destroying the alcohol industry would save her father in her voice-overs. She also hates Diluc because of this. But surely Diluc would be willing to make a refreshing fruit blend or soda for Diona. Also, this is set in Springvale since it wouldn’t be appropriate for Diluc to meet Diona at a bar, and being at Good Hunters would attracted unwanted attention for both.

For drunken angst at Church of Favonius ft Barbara and Viktor

me: “So like, drunk green bard wonders into Church of Favonius at night, starts muttering about events from a thousand years ago in Latin while staring out the stained glass windows at the Barbatos statue”

Chasm Delving Highlight Reel: Special Just Leave a Comment Edition

At this point I should be real and say that I almost always leave comments. It's just a matter of having the energy but, as any of the authors I follow could tell you, I'm actually your weirdly joyful recurring commenter. I'll leave you sincere emoji hearts and "Thank you for writing!" and several "I love this so muuuuch!" or comments about how you made me cry (it's true, y'all make me cry and laugh and yelp.)

No regrets at all, though the comment bot stuff had me rethink my approach to sound a little more like I was actually reading.

I say this so you'll understand that while I didn't rack up numbers on the comment fest, that was because I've commented on most of the fics that are in my bookmarks. I needed new stuff and there was not enough time on the week to read everything I wanted.

General numbers are: 12 comments on 10 fics (one was updating daily and yes I did the thing.)

But I read a bit and found some good stuff! Which led me to the thought "why not make those into recs as well?" After all, it's been a while.

Yeah, yeah, I know most of you prefer reconciliation fics to be about the guys being forced to work together with maybe a side of hurt/comfort, but this fic feels real in a way that'll appeal to anyone with siblings.

The dialogue is fire and Lumine is a marvelous goblin. Also Venti does a sneaky thing, which is something I always approve.

For the 11th the theme was Old, New and under 2k.

Alhaitham/Cyno fake dating fic, mostly played for comedy (or is it?) Since it's very short I won't spoil you by saying anything else about it. Short and funny is a perfect combo, isn't it?

A new chapter of Paper, Glass, Steel, and Bone [or, The Tensile Strength of Tenacity] by kawree dropped on the 12th and of course I had to read it and comment.

I keep telling everyone to read this fic with mixed results (the rarepair experience after all), but if you want a big cup of Kaeya to go with his cameo in the current event, this fic is what you're looking for.

There's so much lovely banter! The first chapter is a charmer, but I really love that "dinner with the old timers" scene later on (also the hair-brushing one, but all kinds of qpr things make me go weak on the knees) (the thing about the dinner scene is that it's got good dialogue, emotional cues and *throws glitter* drama) and the dialogue in this latest chapter. Ugh, feelings.

The 12th was for AUs so I get to rec the infuriating smart people AU Chiluc fic! Yay!

I also managed to read one of those fics that had been lingering on my Read Later.

It’s like Alice in Wonderland but after falling through a rabbit hole instead of anthropomorphic creatures, card soldiers, and hookah-smoking caterpillars, you get gay smut by Grymmeoir

This is an Actor AU Childe/Zhongli thing that is kinda of a fusion with a webnovel that I haven't actually read. It's very funny and was a great thing to read while a cyclone raged outside (we get Weather over here in the bog) (I swear everything's fine.)

When I say this is crack you have to believe me. This fic is about a man that is so fucking oblivious he thinks shipping himself with someone else has nothing to do with real feelings. And let's not talk about Zhongli. 100% proof crack. Fun to read though.

The 13th was for rarepairs, which is a conceptual issue for me in this fandom.

There are two kinds of ships in Genshin: the ones with a whole bunch of fics of all kinds and the ones with 20 smut fics to their name. I'm not very much into smut :/ So I'd like you all to pretend Chiscara is a rarepair. Okay? Okay.

Very much canon noncompliant as every single shippy fic is, yes, but also because of making stuff up about post-canon. Perfectly nice stuff, though. And, also, very importantly, about IMMORTALS IN LOVE. Big bold letters because that's my absolute favorite romance trope (yes, I'm the audience for all those xianxia dramas about reincarnation and eternal pining.)

The 14th was for trying something new...

... but I'll be real here and say that this was the day that I found this trove of short Kaeluc recs, which is the very opposite of something new.

This fic is tagged as relationship study, but it's more like a character study of both of them, together and alone. The author here does this spectacular thing, managing to write an one-shot that reads like 50 chapters of slow burn.

The relationship develops in this slow, gentle way and the prose is absolutely beautiful. Seriously, this story is constructed like well-made lace in cobweb weight yarn.

(Additionally, if you are into reading people's thoughts about their writing, the author has a whole site with a bunch of commentary linked at the end notes. A real treat if you are also the sort of person that would be suffering in Haravatat.)
