Knitting a freehand bag and started wondering how often people even use patterns, anyway. So--how often do you use a pattern when you make things ? This include knitting/crochet/sewing/weaving/nalbinding/bobbin lace/tatting/etc but also things like woodworking, cooking, and baking. If you want to just pick the thing you do most often that's fine.
I personally do not use patterns as I find them far more confusing than just figuring out the construction of an item and simply making it. I do very occasionally browse ravelry for inspiration but have downloaded maybe 2. In the 5 or so years since I joined. And have followed exactly 1, which I modified every single aspect of. In my defense, dyslexia.

This is, without a doubt, the coolest Christmas gift I got this year: a steel model kit of Minas Tirith by Metal Earth!
My assembly is definitely not the best—I broke and bent some pieces, and the whole thing is a little lopsided—and it took me about eight hours of work over three days to complete and sucked about ten years off my lifespan, but I don’t regret it. This thing is SO cool and SO detailed, and honestly pretty big for a model kit; when assembled, the base is about as big around as a CD (if you kids still remember what CDs are), and almost as tall. It’s a super cool gift, and it will have a prominent place on my desk from this point forward!

I am realizing with increasing urgency that whatever I ultimately do to make my laundry room a pretty and functional space is going to have to involve a bay for a significantly large rolling tool chest, because I have so many tools in so many places and I need to mount new hinges on an old door but for the life of me I cannot find a single fucking chisel

Assembled a miniature book store (in 21 hours) which I think Solas would like to relax in 🥹 I'm so proud of it, especially installing the lights was hard, felt like an electrician after being successful 😭

The light works! I was a bit worried the assembly wouldn't be functional. Both because I'm unreasonably nervous about even low volt like this, and because himbo cat ate half the cables x'p
Not much left to do, now :'3

Hi, is the "send me all the things you like / are looking towards to in assembly to deal with writing dry spell" thing still on? Should i send them as asks on this blog or comments on AO3?
This applies ALWAYS, and I prefer ao3 comments as they're easier to find and reread later. the comments I was getting on assembly through the year kept my mind on it and thinking about it and especially when:
people mentioned specific details or quotes that they liked from the story = puts my head in thinking about this story specifically, and things I liked about writing it
people mentioned stuff they're looking forward to = gets my brain engaged thinking about my plans and how people would react to reading it
Both good
Stuff I don't like tho:
I will say I am not a fan of people saying "you should write xyz happening" or otherwise like....doing the backseat author thing, or whatever. I'm an intrinsically contrary person for this kind of shit, if someone tells me to do something I reflexively say fuck you you can't tell me what to do, and then sometimes aggressively forsake the story out of spite

listen i tend to be a "nothing on earth is new" type of guy but having your facebook-using boomer parent send you an obviously AI generated image attributed to an artist you like, forcing u to go through the whole rigamarole of deciding whether to be a wet blanket and mention it or to swallow your pain and go "haha yup that's great ma" is perhaps - just perhaps - a uniquely modern predicament
