wanted to do a "year" in review, though actually i only joined tumblr in october! so instead i just did twelve pieces i'm proud of, in roughly chronological order!

The song sold over one million copies when released as a single, and was #17 on Billboard's Hot 100 that year.

I noticed that in fantasy fiction, there are two routes for writing character dialogue. One is to make people speak in a grandiose (sometimes even Shakespearean) way, with lots of dramatic literary terms and archaic medieval language peppered in. The other is to have them speak in a way similar to modern-day vernacular, usually with the implication that this is a "translation" of a fantasy language.

But why not have them speak in Transatlantic accents with 1920s slang? That would rule.

Laedir being viewed as someone who's always composed and has his shit together and never shows his feelings, only for his first POV chapter to be him having a panic attack while his wife is in labour and being completely silent about it so nobody knows

Bronwyn finally breaking down in front of her brother because her other brother is dead and her lover is dead and she's carrying his baby that she doesn't want but her husband is also dead and she's trapped in a patriarchal society and has the pressure of being the oldest daughter of a prominent family with parents desperate to keep up their reputation no matter what and really really just wants to go out into the woods and scream for a while

Conversely, Bronwyn finally getting to go out in the woods and (probably) scream for a while

The Ulric kids being so chill about dead toddlers lying around their island because it's not that uncommon of an occurance

Jerod (recovering from a severe leg injury, 17 and small for his age) dragging his deathly ill sister through a snowstorm in a cart and finding the strength/adrenaline to carry her up the stairs to a healer he knows he isn't supposed to have contact with in the first place
