Danny isn’t entirely sure what’s going on. He feels like he should be more worried about that, mostly because of how weird Dad had been acting all morning. He’d been so… quiet. Calm, quiet, soft, gentle. Not that Dad wasn’t always gentle. Sure, his hugs and back slaps could pack a punch, but Dad knew he was big and strong and tried hard not to do anything too hard. Danny’d seen what Dad’d done to walls, the way he hugged was downright delicate in comparison. And Danny was a lot tougher now, he could take Dad’s bone crushing hugs easily. So yeah, gentle for Dad was usually still too much for normal people.

But Dad was also usually excited, loudly excited! He was being really quiet today, and it was kind of weird.

Maybe Danny should be a bit more worried about being lost?

But surely if he should be worried Dad would tell him so. Dad knew now, had for a few weeks. In that time alone he and Mom had set about reinforcing the portal so no one could get through without permission. Danny had even taken them on a couple trips into the ‘Zone to introduce them to friendly ghosts. It was embarrassing to introduce them to Frostbite, but also kinda necessary so he’d sucked it up and done it. So Dad knew that Danny has powers, knew just how strong he was. If Dad were worried he’d want Danny to know so he could help.

But still, Dad was acting weird. Nervous. Danny couldn’t figure out why. If he didn’t trust these strangers they were just hanging out with he wouldn’t have left Danny alone with them, right? Then again maybe he felt it was safest to not talk to Jazz in front of them. To keep Danny safe from ghost hunters they’d all agreed it was best to keep it secret, so if Dad and Jazz were talking about him as Phantom it made sense he’d want to step away.

Danny nibbled on his poptart, still trying to puzzle through it. He looked around at the strangers and well… he knew some of them at least. Dad had called the dark one Batman, everyone knew who Batman was. He remembered his parents debating whether he was a ghost or a cryptid, a huge debate that they couldn’t come to a conclusion on. Unlike Santa, that one could crop up at any time. Unlike Santa, this one wasn’t so divisive, guess his parents were less invested or something.

So the woman next to him… looked a lot like Pandora wearing a human disguise. She looked at him and smiled, then reached forward and nudged his mug. “Drink it while it’s hot,” she said warmly.

Yeah, she sounded a lot like Pandora too, something about the way neither were actually speaking English. Danny nodded and picked up his drink, if Pandora and Dad thought they were okay, if they both trusted Batman and the other people dressed weirdly then Danny would too. Even if they smelled like ozone and lab cleaning solvent.

The smell kept getting stronger too, there was a pressure in the room. It had stopped suddenly when Jazz called, but it was picking up again. It was weird, like being in a bubble getting dropped in the ocean. At this rate his ears would pop, or the whole room would implode like that one sub going to visit the Titanic. Kinda ironic, waaaaaaay more people have died exploring the bottom of the ocean than space. Technically, no human has ever died in space, the closest was the Challenger disaster and they didn’t make it to space before the explosion. That was so sad. But it was still pretty amazing no one had died going to the moon, not even Apollo 13! No one had even died in the Justice League, so far as Danny’s heard. Not even a cop-out “technically died in space” while actually fighting bad guys on an alien planet technicality.

“Jazz was just checking in on us, I told her we’ll see her at dinner tonight.” Dad sat down next to Danny, peeking over at whatever Batman was working on as he did so.

Danny nodded and hummed in agreement. That was good, it seemed Dad thought they’d be home by dinner despite being lost right now. That was good.

It was weird though, he hadn’t called her “Jazzypants” like normal. In fact, Dad hadn’t pulled out a single nickname, not even “Danno.” So was Dad worried about them being lost or not? Danny couldn’t figure it out.

The pressure was building again, Danny yawned, trying to make his ears pop. It didn’t help. It hadn’t the last two times either. Or was it three?

Dad nudged the plate with his poptarts on it, Danny picked up his half eaten rectangle and started nibbling again. Chocolate wasn’t his favorite flavor, he kinda wondered what happened to the strawberry from before. It would go nicely with the hot chocolate, a nice contrast of flavors. There was just something about artificial strawberry flavoring that Danny really liked.

Danny slumped over, his body leaning against Dad. He still wasn’t entirely sure what was going on, if he should be worried or not, but Dad was there so everything was going to be okay.

Kinda wished Mom was there instead though. He had no doubt she could easily kick Batman’s butt if he did need to be worried though. But Pandora was there, even if it was a new human disguise he’d never seen before, so that was just as good. Pandora liked him, she wouldn’t let anything happen to him.

The pressure suddenly stopped again. Danny yawned, his ears still didn’t pop. It was so annoying.

“Oh my god,” the guy with a metal bucket on his head hissed, “it’s a god egg!”

He has to wear protective boots from the beginning tho because it's way too hot there. (His look is modeled after his Trollstopia ep1 Rock outfit)

How does each brother feel about Branch being king? They're bewildered to say the least. Seeing your brother after 20 years and he's suddenly the KING of the pop trolls? Well that's quite a lot of info to take in....

How does Viva feel about Branch and her sister's death? You'll be getting a small writing snip about that at some point :3c

Is Branch a well-liked king- like do the people like him or do they resent him? The village's feeling about Branch's rule are... mixed. On one hand he's harsh, cold and oh so paranoid, parties hardly ever happen en mass anymore and it's clear some of the life has been sucked out of Pop Village since he stepped up- but on the other hand he keeps them incredibly safe. It's clear he cares for them in his... own Branchy way, and beyond that THEY elected him, it'd be foolish to get mad over a choice they collectively made. Is Trollstopia present or did you change it? I kind of consider the TV series to be their own sort of off-shoot time-line so, at least for this AU, Trollstopia doesn't exist.

How does Bridget feel about Poppy's death? She never had a say. She was thrown from the kingdom after Chef pointed the blame on her.

So, the different Tribes... they all love Branch. Not just because he and Poppy saved music, but because he was able to do that while also being mute and Grey. And you can bet the royals will be hearing about Brozone at some point, if only because Branch is probably gonna have more noticeable injuries from the confrontation with Velvet and Veneer (Velvet literally backhanded him, he tiny that had to have hurt and potentially broke bones) and also because there's suddenly these 4 strangers surrounding their favorite pop troll.

Barb totally breaks JD's nose.

When the group returns to pop village, Poppy immediately calls the other tribes to tell them about what happened and to be wary in case something like this happens again.

The rulers get there quickly along with their best doctors to make sure they're all OK. JD, Bruce, and Clay seem to be fine, if a little dizzy and fatigued. Floyd's condition was more concerning. He's going to need physical therapy and time to get back to how he was. His hair, though, will most likely continue to have white at the roots.

Branch had few bruised ribs and exhaustion, but nothing too serious.

Trollex and Trolzart are disappointed with the brothers after hearing what happened, but ultimately respected Branch's feelings, so they weren't chewed out too harshly.

Barb, on the other hand, immediately tried to attack them, getting a good hit on JD before Sid Fret could hold her back. It's going to be a while for her to trust them with her unofficial brother.

Delta was surprisingly cordial with them, saying she's disappointed but will give them a chance to redeem themselves. This is mostly because she and JD used to date before they mutually decided to break up.

Essence and Quincy sensed there were many unresolved traumas they were suppressing and offered to help them get in contact with a good family therapist. Each of them obviously have issues to work through, Bruce has fewer issues thanks to Brandy's ever loving support.

Suddenly I was overtook by genius.

Rock Sibblings where Branch is the big brother.

Instead of being kidnapped by Barb, he finds baby Barb crawling around and meets Thrash, who had to bring her along because her babysitter dipped out last minute and she is SO HARD to keep track of. Branch ends up going with Thrash to live with them anyway, and has a very tiny Barb who is obsessed with him.

Barb is 10 years younger than him in this AU and she unfortunately has big ideas.

After Thrash is unable to rule, Branch is named King because Barb is still like 14-15 and he's freaking out because he's not even technically a Rock Troll, how can he rule them?!

As previously mentioned, Barb has big ideas, and she decides she wants to make her brother King of EVERYONE so starts her plot for a World Tour. For it to work she does have to put Branch in a cage but it's fine, he'll love the surprise.

Branch manages to break out just in time to save Poppy from getting hit like he did in canon, turning into a Rock Zombie. Barb freaks out and is like "I can fix it!" and tries to reverse it by changing the setting Pop, which only results in a Pop Zombie. She cycles through all the string settings, giving us a Branch Zombie for each tribe, before Poppy breaks out and the strings get broke. Just Sing happens and afterwards the other leaders are like "Okay we need to talk."

Delta Dawn starts the meeting off by telling Barb how irresponsible and immature she is and how maybe she's not ready to be Queen yet and Branch goes "Okay wait. Pause. Barb's not the queen. Barb, did you tell these people you were queen?"

To which Barb is like "I thought I'd strike a little more fear in them as Queen Barb rather than Princess Barb. Princess Barb doesn't sound very scary, now does it?"

Branch sighs and explains that he's the king, Barb is his little sister and she's only 15-16 which is why she's not the queen. Everyone (other than Poppy) has a moment like "We got invaded by a teenager. We got our asses thoroughly KICKED by a teenager."

Delta asks where the hell Branch has been while they got invaded and Branch is like "I've been in a CAGE, same as you. I didn't think I had to worry when my little sister said she had a surprise and blindfolded me that she would kidnap me, so as you can imagine she had a bit of an upperhand."

Branch grounds Barb and tells her she has to help ALL the tribes clean up, along with all the trolls who thought helping the princess start a Rock Revolution was a good idea.

Branch ends up befriending Trollex and Delta, who give him parenting advice. To be fair, Trollex's isn't so much "parenting" advice as it is "Here's what to do when your protege sets the town on fire by accident" advice but it ends up sounding exactly like parenting advice.

Essence and Quincey try to help but no amount of gentle parenting will work on Barb, who needs to be wrestled to establish your place in the hierarchy.

Trollzart has no valuable suggestions other than a leash, which Branch is strongly considering.
