What a humbling hometown show with @kinagrannis last night. I haven't seen her since my first interview EVER with her back at @ucirvine in 2014 (I remember my foot falling asleep and her catching me!). Now after overseas tours and a Jakarta nightmare, feeling very grateful @koreasianmedia was the only media she let in. I’m a proud member of KG Records via Patreon. For those of you asking, “What is KG Records?” We are roughly around two thousand fans who collectively make up the record label for Kina Grannis. Yes, we the fans have an equal say when it comes to impacting and engaging with Kina’s music on a deeper level. We can be as involved or not involved as we wish. Which means, we can also be a silent supporter within KG Records and sit quietly knowing that we’re doing an awesome thing, or we can dive into the community of Kinerds. Through crowd funding, we have helped support the creation of new covers on Youtube, a full length album, and a tour across the U.S. and Europe.

Yes, its very much a community. Depending on your monthly pledge level, you have the opportunity to have a coffee hangout with with Kina and other KG Records members. Last Summer, I had the chance to meet some very lovely folks. Eddi, Hara, and Mercedes are the sweetest friends you could possibly have. We met randomly (or by fate) at the Atlanta show. To this day, we still keep in contact with each other. In fact, I actually sent them christmas cards last year. So we’re all one big happy family with KG Records.

Kina, do you remember when I interviewed you in 2014 for my first artist interview at @ucirvine and my foot fell asleep and you had to carry me? 😂 . My how the times have changed, and it’s funny how I’m always (somehow) being led back to your shows. As a music writer/photographer/videographer lately, I rarely ever have the opportunity to see a show just for the sake of enjoying it w/o work. No better way to take this in than with the OG concert crew (@twanandreckless @maaquino650) and complimentary tickets, where we’ve had years of #themeganddiastory driving up and down to LA and back (like to @nbcthevoice Season 1 finale where we met with Dia right when she went from rock band frontwoman to solo artist in 2011). These are the reasons I love music — they are chapters and mementos to our lives, journeys and experiences. This moment happened 3 years ago already? 2014 was a big year for me as I had just finished my year "in labor" producing my baby #PACN35 at @kabaatuci. I devoted all of my time and energy into creating and cultivating love for the Filipino culture in a 30k student-run production that I was so excited to finally plunge back into my first loves... Writing, music and connecting! I still remember how my foot fell asleep and @kinagrannis helped prop me up as we took a photo. My first interview ever, and probably one of the most natural and genuine conversations I've had. Relive the moment that (kind of) started it all on my blog! Kina Grannis in Manila! <3

It must have been a tough call to push forward this concert midst the flooding caused by 9 days of non-stop rain in Manila. Good thing there were around 60 people who showed up in Promenade, Greenhills. At 4PM I was all prepped up waiting for my friends. Though 2 of them backed out, I was able to grab my cousin with me last minute! We arrived the venue at 7PM, an hour early. Weather was crazy but traffic was light and all roads were passable!

We sat a row before the last (balcony seating) patiently waiting for the show to start. 10 minutes past 8, I told my cousin it was never late in the US. Another 5 minutes, I noticed there were more vacant seats than filled ones up front.

At this point I know that they'd have us move closer and thats exactly what happened! From balcony, we moved to VIP! I was seated on the 5th row, aisle area so I was able to get closer to Kina for a better shot! Talk about ’favored’! <3

So there.. Johnoy Danao opened for her. He sang 5 songs, 2 of which are covers. Yellow and Chasing Cars. First time to hear him and I was not able to resist buying his album. Johnoy is amazing! (I’m listening to Dapithapon as I write this)

Then there’s Kina!

She just said “Hello, Manila!” and started playing.

She also did her usual routine of recording the audience but she was surprised we sang “Happy Birthday” instead while the organizers bring her cake to blow and a big greeting card signed by the audience before the show started.

Night was intimate. Nothing new but that one song that I haven't heard from her past concerts. Overall, Kina is still the same Kina I’ve seen twice in the US. She’s a writer and her charm is just irresistible (insert Kinerds).For an hour and a half, I felt like I was back in San Diego. As she start her line up with “World In Front of Me”, it was rather nostalgic. 

Memoirs of Lake Forest, July of last year, slowly filled my mind. It was supposedly the last day of my business trip in the US when I was asked by a friend/colleague to go to San Diego to watch Kina Grannis before I fly back to Manila. Her name sounded familiar.. I think I recognized her from YouTube however, I know for a fact that I didn't have any of her songs in my iTunes. He played some of her songs while he was driving me back to my hotel and I couldn't agree more..her music is catchy. She writes well more so. 

Fast forward to April 2012, I was in UCSD with my boyfriend.

We drove all the way from Vegas to see Kina again!

It’s nice seeing Kina here in Manila..

I am just thankful that I was able to see her here in my hometown and for an hour and a half, San Diego, my happy place was inch-thick close, at least in my thoughts and feelings.
