web translated article
Korean journalists, often use this expression "crank-in" when filmmakers start to shoot a movie.
Movie ‘Veranda’ Jeon Somin, Ji Seunghyun, Ha Suho casting, crank in
The casting date for the romantic thriller film ‘Veranda’ (directed by Cho Sung-won) has been confirmed.
Director Cho Sung-won's romantic thriller film 'Veranda' selected Jeon So-min, Ji Seung-hyun, and Ha Soo-ho as the lead actors and recently began filming, distribution company Santa Claus Entertainment announced on the 25th.
The movie 'Veranda' is a story about people's secrets and truths projected in a space called an apartment, a communal home. 26 Company Co., Ltd. named this work, which has a narrative that relieves the burden of drama from the existing genre of 'erotic thriller' and highlights a more sophisticated and sensuous mise-en-scène, as a genre of 'romantic thriller', providing unique fun and entertainment. He expressed his aspirations for the production, saying that he wanted to create emotion.
Actress Jeon So-min plays the role of Jeong Ha-yeon, who is threatened by a mysterious person claiming to know the secret about her husband's death. Actress Jeon So-min, like a chameleon, plays roles in a variety of genres, including a love story in the drama 'Show Window: The Queen's House' and a life-style role in 'Cleaning Up'. In this work, she plays Jeong Ha-yeon, who senses that someone stalking her house is related to her husband's death and sets out to find her. She is able to establish herself as a thriller queen with strong maternal love for her son Aram. I plan to go through a transformation in my acting.
Actor Ji Seung-hyun played the role of ‘Hyun-woo’, who lost his beloved wife and child. He clearly made a mark on viewers with his role as Yang Gyu in the drama 'Khitan War of Goryeo', and has recently become a popular actor, even holding a fan meeting for the first time since his debut, and is actively engaged in activities. In this movie, the main character Hayeon's son 'Aram' follows Hyunwoo, and attention is being paid to how 'Hyeonwoo', who begins to dream big in new hope with Hayeon, will be portrayed.
Here, the role of Hayeon's husband 'Woojae' is played by actor Ha Soo-ho. Since his debut, actor Ha Soo-ho has expanded his scope of activities to include screens, TVs, and OTT series, and is showing impressive acting across genres. In particular, he left a strong impression on viewers with his impactful acting as a vicious villain in Netflix's 'The Hounds' last year and in Disney+'s 'Han River'. Ha Soo-ho is solidifying his position as an actor. This work raises expectations about how the heavy and ugly truth hidden behind death will be expressed in detail.
In addition, actor Jeong Hee-tae will play the role of 'Nam Kyung-jang', who begins to investigate the surroundings while suspecting 'Woo-jae's' accident, and 'Kim Kyung-jang' will be played by newcomer Jeon Young-chan. Actor Jeong Hee-tae, who showed outstanding acting in the dramas 'Wedding Impossible', 'House with a Yard', and the movies 'My Neighbor' and 'Cheer Up, Mr. Lee', takes on the role of Detective Nam Kyung-jang, who is investigating the case in detail. It will add weight to the play. Meanwhile, actor Jeon Young-chan is recognized for his acting skills in short films such as 'Daejeon, 1960' and 'Lighthouse', and recently, he is a rookie with infinite possibilities and potential with his passionate passion in dramas such as the drama 'Cheer Up' and the OTT series 'Dominant Bell' and 'Deal'. am. Expectations are high for the diverse charms he will show through ‘Chief Inspector Kim’.
Jung Taekwoon, who plays the role of 'Arden', who is about to make his screen debut through 'Veranda', debuted as the main vocalist of the group VIXX in 2012 and received a lot of love for his unique voice and eye-catching charm, and has appeared in the musical 'Full House' since 2014. , 'Mata Hari', 'Monte Cristo', 'Elisabeth', 'Marie Antoinette', 'Frankenstein', 'The Great Comet', as well as the play 'Tebesland', and has been praised for her passionate performances regardless of genre, becoming an all-rounder with acting skills. It came out. In this 'Veranda', he plans to further expand his range of acting by playing the role of a mysterious character who spies on Hayeon's house and learns her secret.
In addition, this film 'Veranda' won the Grand Bell Award for Art Director with the film 'Moss', and he served as art director and set manager for leading works representing Korea such as 'Battleship Island', 'Sabaha', 'Korean Peninsula', and 'Bat'. Since this is the first work directed by director Seong-won Cho, it is attracting particular interest and expectations.
The movie 'Veranda', which is raising expectations with the appearance of many actors with solid acting skills such as Jeon So-min, Ji Seunghyun, and Ha Suho, as well as excellent supporting roles, is scheduled to be released in 2025.
Jeon So-min and Ji Seunghyun confirmed to appear in ‘Veranda’… Jung Taekwoon's screen debut
Actors Jeon So-min, Ji Seung-hyun, and Ha Soo-ho are coming together for 'Veranda'.
26 Company Co., Ltd. said, "This work, which relieves the burden of drama from the existing genre of 'erotic thriller' and has a narrative that highlights a more sophisticated and sensuous mise-en-scène, is named as a genre 'romantic thriller', and provides a unique and fun experience." “I wanted to create an emotion,” he said, expressing his production aspirations.
Jeon So-min takes on the role of Jeong Ha-yeon, who is threatened by a mysterious person claiming to know the secret about her husband's death. Jeon So-min plays Jeong Ha-yeon, who senses that someone stalking her house is related to her husband's death and sets out to find her. She is able to establish herself as a thriller queen with her strong maternal love for her son A-ram. I plan to go through another acting transformation.
Ji Seung-hyeon plays the role of Hyun-woo, who lost his beloved wife and child. As Hayeon's son Aram follows Hyunwoo, attention is focused on how Ji Seung-hyun will portray Hyunwoo, who begins to dream big in new hope with Hayeon.
Hayeon's husband Woojae is played by Ha Soo-ho. After his debut, Ha Soo-ho, who expanded his scope of activities to the screen, TV, and OTT series, and showed impressive acting across genres, raises expectations about how he will densely express the heavy and ugly truth hidden behind death.
In addition, actor Jeong Hee-tae plays the role of Nam Kyung-jang, who begins to investigate the surroundings while suspecting Woo-jae's accident, and newcomer Jeon Young-chan plays the role of Kim Kyung-jang.
Jung Taekwoon (Leo), who plays the role of Arden, who is about to make his screen debut through 'Veranda', debuted as the main vocalist of VIXX in 2012 and received a lot of love for his unique voice and eye-catching charm. Since 2014, he has been well received for his passionate performances across genres in musicals such as ‘Full House’, ‘Mata Hari’, ‘Monte Cristo’, ‘Elisabeth’, ‘Marie Antoinette’, ‘Frankenstein’, and ‘The Great Comet’ as well as the play ‘Tebesland’. He was reborn as an all-rounder with acting skills. In this 'Veranda', she plans to further expand her range of acting by playing the role of a mysterious person who spies on Hayeon's house and learns her secret.
'Veranda' won the Grand Bell Award for Art Director for the movie 'Moss', and director Seong-won Cho, who was in charge of art direction and set responsibility for leading representative works of Korea such as 'The Battleship Island', 'Sabaha', 'Korean Peninsula', and 'Bat', etc. This is the first work that took on a megaphone. It is targeted for release in 2025.

Done watching 16 episodes of “Start-Up”
Yes! It is my first time to watch an on-going Korean series. And I admit it definitely haunts me every week.
Starring Suzy Bae, Nam Joo Hyuk, Kim Seon Ho, Kang Ha Na
At this moment I am still reminiscing my favorite scenes.. I like Nam Joo Hyuk since WFKBJ days but in this series I am rooting for Kim Seon Ho. My heart belongs to the Team Han Ji Pyeong. #TeamGoodBoy
His character is truly the Good boy we all wished to have.. as a Mentor who gives us the honest advice that we needed to hear whether it is good or bad for us to be strong and improve ourselves, as a friend whose always there to back us up, as a loving son (to his beloved Halmonie), as a partner in life. Though he didn’t ended up with Seo Dal Mi, he continues to smile, supports the team and accepts his fate.
These two scenes in Episode 16 made me cry and cry all over again..
(Halmonie and Ji Pyeong; Halmonie and In Jae)
Gonna miss you, Ji Pyeong.. Thank you for once again setting up our mind and our standards very high as to what characteristics our ideal man should have. 😂🤣😂
Thank you, Start-Up for making my weekends very happy and exciting.
Truly one of the best Korean drama I’ve ever seen.

Kdrama: Startup
My Rating: 8/10
Park Hye Ryun dramas Dream High, I Hear Your Voice, and Pinocchio are some of my all time faves. I haven't finished While You Were Sleeping though because I find Suzy and Lee Jong Suk's chemistry more sibling-like than romantic. I was looking forward to Startup but was not really sure about the casting, which was a foreshadowing of things to come lol.
Startup is not at par with PHR's greatest hits, but it's still a solid, positive, engaging drama about the struggles and perseverance of youth in the technological startup business. Yes, maybe it's bogged down by the controversial love triangle, but well...at least everybody's buzzing about it, and catapulted Kim Seon Ho's dimples to popularity.
I'm the last person to be a fan of messy love triangles, but I think the drama from the start has been obvious that Do San is the end game. It's just that PHR put a twist on the beloved romance trope of mistaken identity through love letters. If she followed the usual trope then Jipyeong is the end game.
I have a Nam Joo Hyuk allergy from Bride of the Water God, he did better here as Do San, though it's not enough to overshadow Jipyeong. Do San seems like a beta hero made from the same cutout as Dream High's beloved Sam Dong, but Kim Soo Hyun knocked that role out of the park with an endearing accent and trademark heartbreaking cries. Sam Dong also had a life- altering sickness there which would have put everybody on his ship, while Do San's troubles about confidence feels like just our everyday troubles. It lacked drama oomph.
I do commend PHR for trying something different from her usual drama that tackles some kind of whodunit mystery crime. Her trademark endearing relationships and good drama mixed with good comedy is still evident. Suzy was a good surprise! She's always her charming self but I'm impressed with how more controlled her acting looks in this drama.
It's just Kim Seon Ho's Han Jipyeong has such a good backstory, with that gruff but secretly selfless role we're all weak for, and on key scenes that mattered he brought his acting game. Honestly he didn't get a lot of screentime, also pretty Kang Han Na. I really wished there were more Mom-Dal Mi-In Je scenes, but their personal differences were just smoothed out off- screen, suddenly all is well and there was no emotional payoff from their initial fallout. Despite all that drama off-screen, and what- could-have-been's, I'll be on the lookout for PHR's next project.

[Countdown to 2021] Top 5 Kdrama of 2020
This past year of what was undoubtedly an absolutely horrendous year of 2020--for a variety of reasons--I can honestly say that one of the reasons why I stayed sane was because of Kdrama. Being at home all day, even for an extreme homebody for me, can get harrowing because the choice of going out or not was taken from me when my area went into lockdown.
And so....to Kdrama it is. I think that 2020 was one of the very few years that I’ve seen nearly all of the Kdrama that aired on MBC, SBS, KBS, TvN, and jTBC...which is....a lot, I’ve come to realize. That brought me to think--which would I consider my top 5?
Hmmm.....Well, here I go.
Please note that my top 5 are not in any particular order. Each one that made it to my top 5 is beloved for a completely different reason. I also don’t go down the critic route and pick apart the direction, the story, yada yada. I just made this list purely on how much I enjoyed them and how much they’ve made an impression on me.
(SPOILERS AHEAD.)
#5 -- The Tale of the Nine-Tailed
Starring Lee Dong Wook, Jo Bo Ah, Kim Beom, Hwang Hee
I like Lee Dong Wook as a Grim Reaper, and I like Lee Dong Wook as a gumiho/nine-tailed fox. What can I say?
That being said, The Tale of the Nine-Tailed was really about Kim Beom’s character Rang. He started as a villain (sort of), then became a reluctant ally (sort of), and then met his end with a smile. He redeemed himself throughout the entire drama, and I shed a lot of tears in the final episode, because he finally was afraid to die because he had something to live for, but his desire for his brother to come back was so strong that he’d gladly give up the remaining time he had, stolen as it was, to give his big brother a final gift. His sacrifice made an impact more with me than any other character because it was so out of character for him, and yet not. His choice wasn’t unexpected, and yet I felt like a train wreck when I finally saw it on the screen.
#4 -- Half of a Half/A Piece of Your Mind
Starring Jung Hae In, Chae Soo Bin, Lee Ha Na, Kim Sung Kyu
Or....known as the drama that is known for being tragically cut short. Let me tell you, I loved this drama. It’s not an epic romance drama by any means, but the tone of the drama was really calming and healing, which is basically the premise--two lonely souls grieving find solace in one another.
I do wish that they didn’t drag the mystery of “Who is the husband?” for so long, but I enjoyed the dynamics between Moon Ha Won and Ha Seo Woo so much that I really didn’t mind it. I really wished that they would’ve kept the original run of 16 episodes instead of slashing it to a mere 12, because it really limited the writer and directors to wrap up the story, but I also do think that if they went with the 16-episode route we would definitely have the noble idiocy trope inserted, some way or another, instead of the really lovely way that Seo Woo wanted distance from a devastated Ha Won, to get over her sadness and fear of happiness, in order to run to him.
#3 -- The Flower of Evil
Starring Lee Jun Ki, Moon Chae Won, Jang Hee Jin, Seo Hyun Woo
If Kairos was a suspense drama, The Flower of Evil was definitely a thriller teetering on the edges of horror. My God, this drama scared the living daylights out of me. Lee Jun Ki as a (alleged) sociopath I could see, considering that he acted a similar role in the drama-that-must-not-be-named, but in the flashbacks his serial killer father’s eyes was enough for me to shut my laptop and just breathe.
....And that was before the introduction of Kim Ji Hoon’s character.
Lee Jun Ki is the main lead, and the story focuses on him, but the one who shone in this drama was definitely Kim Ji Hoon. I’ve watched Kim Ji Hoon over the years, and I am somewhat convinced that his sudden appearance as a very psychopathic killer will jump out at my screen and strangle me in my chair. It’s very different from his usual roles and, my God, I am looking forward what he’ll choose for his next project.
#2 -- The King: Eternal Monarch
Starring Lee Min Ho, Kim Go Eun, Kim Kyung Nam, Woo Do Hwan
Ah, the epic modern-Korean monarchy...but with a twist of parallel universes, and more! (Let’s sprinkle in time travel while we’re at it!)
I think that this is the one drama in 2020 where I was simultaneous satisfied that it was finished, and yet still full of unanswered questions. Like, how does a cross-universe couple happen? Especially with doppelgängers?? And why can only certain people remember what happened??? What happens now????
Putting that aside, The King: Eternal Monarch had one major flaw: Lee Rim, played by veteran Lee Jung Jin. I felt that they completely his potential as a very potent villain in the interest of creating an epic love story. I did love the Lee Gon-Jung Tae Eul couple and chemistry (which they did, contrary to some people’s opinions), and it was the characters that really stayed with me--i.e. Jo Young/Jo Eun Sup. Woo Do Hwan really outdid him in both his characters. He nearly convinced me that it was two different actors play two characters!
And...now to #1.
#1 -- Do You Like Brahms?
Starring Park Eun Bin, Kim Min Jae, Kim Sung Chul, Park Ji Hyun
OK....I said that I loved each drama differently, right? Ahahaha....yeah, all lies. If I were to pick just ONE drama of the year, it’d be Do You Like Brahms?
How many ways can I wax poetic about this one? I am still obsessed with this drama, and so very happy that Kim Min Jae and Park Eun Bin won the Best Couple Award for this drama at this year’s SBS Drama Awards. I have my gripes about the drama, but they don’t in any way outweigh the highs.
I just loved the respect and communication between Park Joon Young and Chae Song Ah, both before as acquaintances/friends/comrades in respective unrequited loves, and afterwards as the giddy, heart-fluttering moments as a couple. They understood each other, and accepted one another, as two people experiencing the same pain. They didn’t try to sugarcoat it or hide it behind a smile, which they did towards everyone else. Even with Joon Young’s missed opportunities to communicate, Song Ah tried her very best, when she clearly told him that she didn’t appreciate being in the dark, and that she wanted to lean on him. I also loved how in the drama, their words and actions mirrored one another, in the way that they confessed their feelings, and asked the other to wait--not a rejection, but for an opportunity to catch up.
Honorable Mention -- Forest
Starring Park Hae Jin, Jo Bo Ah, No Gwang Sik, Jung Yeon Joo
I really like Park Hae JIn, and I really like Jo Bo Ah, so put them together? Yep, we have Forest--a drama that mixes romance, mystery(?), and the proverbial forest. The drama did fall kind of flat, which was a disappointment, considering how much news I’ve heard about it, and the villains didn’t get as much development they needed to seem as “evil” they should be.
One of my favorite lines of the drama I think will stay as one of my favorites is a line made by Park Hae Jin’s Kang Sang Hyeok in the final episode (yes, I know): “The reason why I’m acting like this now...is solely because of my personal revenge--the sacred sense of duty that you think I have...I don’t.” He acknowledges his wrongdoing and is making amends, but he doesn’t apologize or try to coat his actions as anything but self-serving. He’s not someone who immediately changes due to the power of love, but takes it slowly.

It’s In The Stars
(soulmate au, reincarnation au, namjoon x reader, fluff, language, 2.3k words)
song suggestion: “we’ve never met but can we have a cup of coffee or something?” by In Love With a Ghost yes that was my inspiration
The royal palace buzzed like a hive once the doors shut behind the Kim family. It practically was, the worker bees had been tending to the Kim Prince all morning. Even as they cooked for the Prince and his family, even if they clothed him, they still buzzed the rumors of his new and arranged bride.
“She has such beautiful hair!”
“Her skin glows whenever she smiles!”
“They will have such talented children!”
Even if the workers did have a crush on the prince, they couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed in excitement. The one who could not spread such rumor, but only hear, was Kim Seok-Jin. He had been wrapping the robes around the Prince however, humming and tending to his cleanliness for the big day.
That was until the Prince flinched. He stepped away from his servant and instead sat down on the pedestal, head in his hands.
“Your Highness?” the servant said, piqued at the sudden movement.
“Forgive my, curious behavior, but I am just, so worried.” the Prince looked at the reflecting glass across from him, biting his lip. “I do not know this bride.”
“According to the stars, sire, we have found she is your soulmate.”
“Oh don’t bother with that, Seok-Jin. You and I both know Father and Mother-,”
“It is true! Have you not heard of my bride? She and I will be wed soon, privately.” The Prince looked over with a frown, “How could you not tell me? I would love to attend.”
“You shall, with your new wife.”
With a groan he looked at the wood ceiling above. “Seok-Jin I do not want to marry a girl I have never met.”
“But you have!”
“Children do not count. I hardly remember my childhood.” The young Prince mumbled, “Nor do I remember even being a child.”
Seok-Jin sat down next to the Prince, a growing frown being painted on his lips, “Well, your Highness, you cannot judge her. Besides, you will also have your concubines to love. In other ways as-,”
“Seok-Jin.” Time froze, and the servant could only hear the young man’s shaky breath as he whispered, “I hate it here.”
“I know you do, sire.” Seok-Jin mumbled back.
“When will it end? The facade I must live?” Seok-Jin backhugged his Prince. Luckily no one else of the Royal Court or family was here, to see them hug, to see them show affection and care. They would’ve had the man’s head.
“You know, when I first met my fiance—,”
“Seok-Jin please—,”
“Let me finish, Nam-Joon! Aish, you never let me finish my stories!” He pouted. The Prince pursed his lips at his name, clinging onto the other man’s tight and securing arms, “Sorry.”
“Now where was I- ah! My lovely Chung-ae. Oh, when I first saw her at the market, from your bride’s kingdom, Time stopped when I saw the red string on my finger glow. I had almost tripped over myself trying to win her heart.” The servant chuckled, nearly cuddling the Prince with the memories, “She slapped me once, called me a buffoon for trying to boast with her.”
“Your flirtatious actions are conceded, Seok-Jin.” Prince Nam-Joon smiled softly, his dimples gleaming a little, like shining water in the summer.
“Did you know I met her when your father and mother were fighting? Your parents had threatened to use me as their beating stick. Your father ad struck me multiple times because his temper was, not at it’s best.” Nam-Joon faintly nodded, his eyes nearly shutting, “I do remember.”
“But it was Chung-ae. My darling, beloved angel Chung-ae who brought the light. She had made me smile, made me love something even if life, and your father, had struck me down so many times. I do not know if you will like your bride, that it it’s own mystery, Nam-Joon. But give this Princess a chance. This is your soulmate. You both will be happy. The stars of this universe never lie.”
The Prince heaves another heavy sigh, his face contorting, “That is just Royalty propaganda. You have not seen the royal soulmate marriages like I have. Cruel, meaningless marriages. I know my parents do not love each other. Like I will never find someone to love as well,”
A knock resounds throughout the room, and Nam-Joon scrambled up, standing regal, with his arms open. Like his mother had once said, a prince is not a prince without his godly stance.
“Ah, sorry I must’ve stepped into the wrong room.”
Nam-Joon turned but his servant had already rushed to the doorway. “Princess! This is the Prince’s quarter!”
“Oh! Pardon me, I was only looking for my future in-laws’ room. I wanted to greet them.” Seok-Jin pointed, somewhere where the Prince could not see, “They’re across the court.”
“Thank you—,”
“Kim Seok-Jin, at your service.” The servant bowed, deeply. “Ah, are you related to the Prince?”
“Not entirely, little warning, he’s a brat.” Nam-Joon retorted, clearing his throat. But he heard the Princess’ giggle, “I’ll keep it in mind. Thank you Seok-Jin.”
“Take care, Princess.” The doors close, and Nam-Joon slouched, “Seok-Jin!”
“She has to know!”
The Prince sighed, and he muttered quietly, “She sounded sweet.”
“AH HA!” the servant pulled away from his duty of clothing him. “SEE?”
“First impressions often are the opposite.”
“You felt something, didn’t you sire?” Nam-Joon glared at him, “Just fix me up!” Seok-Jin chuckled, humming with pride at his tiny victory.
ꕥ
The entire Kim family stood as they see the tall man walk down the aisle. King Kim Kyu-Hwang stiffened as his son’s face was barely covered by the veil, muttering at his wife, Queen Kim Ho-Sook, “Can you fucking believe our son?”
“It’s his wedding day. Let him.”
“He is becoming king right now! You would’ve thought he would come in with grace.”
Ho-Sook looks up with a frown at her husband, “At least his stance is well.”
“Son,” the King said gruffly to his son, hitting his back. Nam-Joon’s eyes almost bulge out as he nodded back, “Father.”
“Are you ready to see your bride? Your mother and I searched the entire land for your soulmate.” Nam-Joon turned slowly, muttering, “You searched until you found a king you could fool into away his daughter and his kingdom’s resources against the wars.”
Kyu-Hwang’s grip against his son became insane to ignore, “Such harsh words to your father, especially one who is giving you the crown, young man.” Nam-Joon scowled back at his father one last time. He stiffly turned back, to witness his bride walking down the aisle.
Even if the robes of crimson you wore reminded him of his stay in the wars. Even if the purple makeup you wore reminded him of the bruises bloomed by his father’s touch. Even when the servants yelled your name like his mother did to him.
He never fell in love with someone as fast.
For years he only felt himself shrivel in agony.
Look at the looking glass only to find blurriness because of the tears.
He could not even love himself.
Yet when he looked at the Princess, with her beautiful hair hidden underneath a crown; her figure disguised by the wedding robes, her heart stopping smile masked by a stern face.
Even if you had to hide; Nam-Joon still found the beauty you were gifted with.
Not only were you walking down the aisle, hesitantly looking up to meet his eyes, you smiled. At a man you did not know.
Lovingly he took your hands, and his dimples shine a little as he tries to talk, “Princess-,”
“Y/N. My name is Y/N.”
He held your hands close, not letting his father brush him off as his teeth shone like the sun behind him, “Y/N, I know we only met, but would you like to kiss?” Nam-Joon cringed slightly at using Seok-Jin’s line, but you laughed quietly, covering your smile.
He took your hand down, looking at you with care.
“Well, isn’t that why we’re here, Prince?” you said sweetly, letting his hands down to your waist, and your hands towards his neck as your lips connect.
ꕥ
You woke up, holding your head.
“Y/N?”
You look at your roommate, Seokjin. His pink lips frowned, and held your throbbing head. “Y/N you were having that dream again, weren’t you?”
The details of his face had been much too realistic. His dimples. His shining brown eyes creasing as his light caramel skin flushed with a pretty red.
You knew that face like you knew how to mix an Iced Americano, and to be honest;
He seemed so real.
“No, I’m fine, thanks. I didn’t scare you, did I?”
Seokjin shook his head, “No, but Y/N please—,” You brush his hand off your shoulder with a smile, “I’m fine, thanks.”
While your best, and only friend really did know couldn’t help dreaming about him, he let you go to the restroom, the romantic glint in your eyes passing by his instinct.
Luckily Seokjin had woken you up so you could go to work. Fixing your hair up and such, you hug your roommate goodbye.
Seoul always made you feel, weird. Like this was not your home. Yes you were born and raised, like many others, but still you wanted more than the smell of the River Han.
It’s like you were unsatisfied.
That and the new hot tricks on finding soulmates quickly. Your hint was unknown, doctors said you would know immediately when you met them. You assumed, the man in your dreams. He had been with you his whole life, being the shadow on everything you’ve done.
Even when you tried to apply to art college, your head full of images of him smiling, near you, crying, in a telephone booth, they wouldn’t take it.
They didn’t believe your sappy soulmate tale.
But you didn’t mind, right now you were the manager of one of the hottest cafes in downtown Seoul. And not only were you manager, you made your own coffee recipes, grinding foreign beans, making new designs in coffees that have never been heard before. Even crazy tea mixtures. Tourists paid to go to Korea for your cafe.
Yet still, emptiness always paved way in your mind. You were hungry, but for what? Was it love? Companionship?
No matter, today you felt different. Every day usually you drove, but on this beautiful spring day, you walked. After all, you did have to greet your subjects.
Kim Namjoon however was working under his father. He watches his father blackmail on his workers, chest on his mother, just be an all around asshole.
Thankfully today he had an excuse to quiet work in his own private office. One of the only perks he got.
But the stench of soju always got to his nose before the words could to his ears.
“Son,”
Namjoon looks up from his thin framed black spectacles and forces a smile, “Father.”
Drumming his fingers on Namjoon’s desk, the CEO of the record label, Kim Kyu-hwang bares his front teeth with a grin, exhaling out more of his grotesque stench, “You’re working late, I see.”
Namjoon continues to type on his computer silently, his eyes darting to his relative then his technology, “Yes Father, last night you went out partying again, and anther woman claims you’ve gotten her pregnant.”
“Did you pay her off?”
Namjoon looks up, staring coldly. “No. I haven’t. I’m not planning to.” Taking off his glasses, he leans on his desk, “Why are you here?”
“I thought you could go out on a walk with me, son! Go find a new model for the company. Plus I wanted to check out that new cafe.”
After 26 years, Namjoon’s father now wanted to bond?
“I’m fine, thank you Father.”
“Come on, we can try to find your soulmate.” he punches Namjoon’s forearm, more roughhousing like a sibling than a dad.
Namjoon inhales deeply, holding the bridge of his nose. “Jesus- fine. After I’m still going to work late, because of you.”
“I know, now get your jacket. Can’t let my son look like a son of a bitch.”
As his father strutted out, humming one of his group’s new Kpop songs, Namjoon boils.
“I have a macchiato with caramel and cream?” A hand pokes out of the crowd, which you hand and rush back to fill the other orders.
Even if the cafe was always crowded, with the scent of all kinds of people, your favorite always popped out.
Green tea.
That scent had always made you flutter your eyes, like you were transported into another life, long ago.
Mysteriously, like your dream.
The doors open, letting some of the tea smell escape.
Usually you didn’t mind who came through. But some sort of force made you look up, a tall, handsome man stepped through.
Light reflected off his skin, making him almost glow. His sweet eyes stared back at yours, and the little shimmer in his eyes told you enough.
It was him.
Transported all the way from Dreamland.
From your kingdom.
From your other life.
Not only was he your Prince, you recall, he was your soulmate.
You go to the cashier immediately, throwing off the stupid apron you wore as you wore your biggest grin.
But the older man, that bastard of a King-, no, CEO. He smirks at you, moving in front of the young man, “My, what a pretty girl.”
You stare back at him grimly, sighing. “Hello, may I take your order sir?”
“Perhaps you can. If you meet my son, pretty girl.” Your face contorts at his sickening words. This man hardly knew you.
But you knew him.
“Father,” his voice is deep, and stern.
He pushes in front with a stressful sigh as he pushes a card towards you.
You didn’t care what it said. Nor what it even meant. You instead took his hands and look at him. He looks at you, his dimples almost showing like they did when in your dreams, like when you and he had your first kiss.
The emptiness was filled to the brim, almost overflowing when he held your hands back with one large hand, “Uh—?”
With a sweet smile to stop his heart, and his words, you whisper, “Hey, we never met but can we maybe get a coffee sometime?”

Kim Jae Wook - Actor Spotlight
June 5, 2019 by misvictrix [Soompi]
Kim Jae-wook is in this week’s spotlight, but he hardly needs an introduction. His recent drama Her Private Life, where he starred opposite Park Min-young, is quickly becoming a cult favorite — and yep, both their performances were fantastic. As the drama has just wrapped up (nooo!), it seems like a good time to take a look at Kim Jae-wook’s acting career.
Born in 1983 in Seoul, South Korea, Kim Jae-wook’s career had an early start in 2002 with a small role in the MBC drama Ruler of Your Own World. He was young at the time, and apparently didn’t enjoy the acting experience. Instead, he focused on his modeling career for many years. When Kim Jae-wook finally returned to the small screen, it was with a supporting role in two now-classic dramas: Dal Ja’s Spring and Coffee Prince.
Although those dramas (especially the latter) should have been enough to guarantee his success, it hasn’t been till recently that he’s starting to get the recognition he deserves. After Her Private Life, he’s definitely at a great point in his career. Quick, make us more dramas!
Here are some dramaland moments from Kim Jae-wook, followed by his full filmography.
Who Are You (2013)
I’m not quite sure how I got through all of this drama. I don’t like creepy tales, and I especially don’t like poorly written creepy tales. However, I have a soft spot for Taecyeon, and tvN, so it seemed like a good idea at the time. Little did I know that this drama would be my introduction to Kim Jae-wook (*choir of angels*). It’s not exactly easy to steal an entire drama when you don’t even have a single line of dialogue — but Kim Jae-wook sure pulled it off. In Who Are You Kim Jae-wook played the wrongfully-murdered beloved of So Yi-hyun’s heroine. She was haunted/visited by him (depending on how you look at it, I guess) and it’s just a testament to his acting that his character was able to have the impact he did. White as a sheet, more silent than any Jang Ki-yong role, and not even doing much but standing there, Kim Jae-wook’s compelling screen presence held this drama together. Thank you.
Temperature of Love (2017)
In the face-off of Yang Se-jong and Kim Jae-wook, who can ever win the heart of the heroine? Truthfully, this drama was about much more than its love triangle — in fact, the love triangle was one of the weakest elements. It’s also one of the rare dramas where my perennial second lead syndrome was shelved (it’s a good drama practice to shelve that painful emotion from time to time). In Temperature of Love, Kim Jae-wook was cold, rich, and completely taken with Seo Hyun-jin’s screenwriting heroine. Though I didn’t love how the triangle/tension played out in moments, I never doubted the authenticity of his character’s emotions. Kim Jae-wook was also a nice foil for Yang Se-jong, who seemed extra young and chipper next to the suave businessman with the power to make or break the people around him.
Her Private Life (2019)
I loved the thought of Kim Jae-wook and Park Min-young starring together, but wasn’t really sure what to expect out of this drama… and boy have I been pleasantly surprised! I’m one of the first people to get drama fatigue over rom-coms with no personality — luckily, Her Private Life has not only personality, but pizzazz, super duper chemistry, and yeah, it’s also hilarious. Kim Jae-wook is great in this role, and it’s such a better character for him than the somewhat (conceptually) similar role he played in Temperature of Love. Here, he gets to have so much more fun, not only because he’s actually in the leading role, but because the script, thankfully, gives him more to do than just be a cold, smitten boss. Not that he doesn’t rock cold and smitten too.
Kim Jae-wook’s full filmography:
Ruler of Your Own World (2002) [Drama]
Kim Jae-wook made his acting debut with a side role in this Lee Na-young and Yang Dong-geun drama, but apparently had a bad time filming, and wasn’t sure about pursuing acting.
Dal Ja’s Spring (2007) [Drama]
Though many were blinded by Lee Min-ki when they watched this drama, Kim Jae-wook had an important (for his career, not really the drama) side role here as Lee Min-ki’s friend. Importantly, this drama was his return to the small screen after a 5-year break.
Coffee Prince (2007) [Drama]
I love long-haired Kim Jae-wook. That is all.
Antique (2008) [Film]
Comedy film based on a Japanese manga about a bakery that starred Joo Ji-hoon, Yoo Ah-in, Choi Ji-ho, and Kim Jae-wook, and got a good bit of acclaim.
Kingdom of the Wind (2008) [Drama]
Kim Jae-wook had a side role in this epic historical drama that told the story of several figures from the Three Kingdoms period.
Pygmalion’s Love (2010) [Drama]
Having grown up in Japan (he spent 7 years there), Kim Jae-wook has a great command of Japanese and it’s helped his career a lot. This short Japanese drama with Kim Joon and Minamisawa Nao is just one example.
Heart of Gold (2010) [Film]
Kim Jae-wook and Hong Kong actress Janice Man starred in this web-released movie about a Koream artist who travels to Japan.
Bad Guy (2010) [Drama]
No matter how bad the hero is, or how bad the plot is, this melodrama is one I want to watch. In addition to Kim Jae-wook, this drama starred Kim Nam-gil, Han Ga-in, Oh Yeon-soo, and Jung So-min.
Mary Stayed Out All Night (2010) [Drama]
This rom-com starred Moon Geun-young, Jang Geun-seok, and Kim Jae-wook and hit some hairy behind-the-scenes drama. In-drama drama was more about love, marriage, and forging marriage certificates.
Save Me (2010) [Film]
Short art film with Kim Jae-wook and Kim So-yi as a couple with a weird hobby.
Who Are You (2013) [Drama]
Getting ghosted by a ghost has never looked so good (see above).
Age of Feeling (2014) [Drama]
Unfortunately, Kim Jae-wook met with more behind-the-scene drama while shooting this ill-fated Kim Hyun-joong historical drama, and left mid-show after its writer swap.
4teen (2014) [Drama/Cameo]
Kim Jae-wook played the adult version of one of the leads in this two-episode drama special about a group of fourteen-year-olds.
Sweet Temptation (2015) [Web Drama]
I’m not sure how Kim Jae-wook wound up in this series of short dramas written for the members of T-ara, but he did.
Planck Constant (2015) [Film]
This art film starred Kim Jae-wook in the lead and chronicled his odd and/or erotic fetishes.
Two Rooms, Two Nights (2016) [Film]
Kim Jae-wook starred as a popular movie director who tried to keep two girlfriends going simultaneously. I’m not sure if we’re supposed to sympathize with him or not? Because I’m not.
The Last Princess (2016) [Film]
Sohn Ye-jin starred in this historical film as the last princess of Korea, and Kim Jae-wook was the Japanese nobleman who married her.
Voice (2017) [Drama]
The first of OCN’s Voice dramas made a big splash, and Kim Jae-wook got a lot of attention for his role in this Jang Hyuk and Lee Hana drama.
Temperature of Love (2017) [Drama]
It might not be perfect but I really enjoyed this drama — and the wonderful cast: Yang Se-jong, Hyun Seo-jin, Kim Jae-wook, and Jo Boa (see above).
Butterfly Sleep (2018) [Film]
Kim Jae-wook starred with Miho Nakayama in this Japanese film about a writer with Alzheimer’s who met a younger Korean man (Kim Jae-wook).
God’s Quiz: Reboot (2018) [Drama/Cameo]
Kim Jae-wook had a cameo in the final episode of the latest/fifth installment of this series about a medical examiner’s office.
Her Private Life (2019) [Drama]
Lion Ryan Gold. Yes, yes, all the YES (see above).
BONUS: I read somewhere that Kim Jae-wook loves to clean and sometimes cleans for 4-5 hours at a time. I just needed to share that information.

A beloved drama you didn't like or didn't finish
Okay, so there are a lot of these, but I’m gonna say Reply 1997. It’s such a popular one and EVERYBODY loves the Reply series, but I just did not like this show. The humor was really not my taste and I thought Eun Ji’s character was so annoying (but no hate to Eun Ji, she’s great). Plus, the whole “who’s her husband” gimmick got old real quick.
A hated drama you actually really liked
I stumped myself on this one. I haven't seen any dramas that are generally considered "bad." So, I'll give one that I think is technically bad but I love anyway: Heartstrings. It's cheesy, it's predictable, and cringey at times. But I think it's all made better when Jung Young Hwa starts singing.
A drama more people should know about
I don't know how popular it is, but I never see anyone talk about Catch the Ghost. I absolutely loved it. It's about a woman who joins the Subway Police to try and catch her sister's murderer and ends up paried with a very by-the-book officer who doesn't appreciate her "by any means necessary" approach to investigation. The main pair are adorable together, especially because of their opposite personalities. It's super fun and goofy, but it also has really poignant moments that hit hard. It's really good and I recommend it.
A popular otp you don't support
As much as I'd like to trash Jun Pyo here, I think most people would agree he's awful and toxic, so it doesn't really count. Instead, I'll go with Cho Rim and Mu Gak from The Girl Who Sees Smells. I didn't necessarily hate them together, but the chemistry really fell flat for me. There just wasn't enough build-up. He went from "she's kind of useful but annoying" to "OMG I love her and want to hug her all the time" in the blink of an eye. It felt like his whole character changed in their romance scenes. He went from pretty unassuming and chill to super affectionate and clingy whenever the writer wanted to throw in some fluff. I wasn't a fan.
An ignored otp you think deserves more love
So Bong and Nam Shin III from Are You Human Too. These two were adorable. He was so sweet and respectful and she started off treating him like an object, but eventually came to understand how he was more than that. She saw that he had feelings and a personality and she encouraged him to be himself. She didn't want him pretending to be the human Nam Shin. With her, he felt loved and appreciated and accepted. They were beautiful together and they need to be more popular.
A genre you don't watch
Historical. I know, I know. It's soooo popular. But I just can't get into it. I don't really know why. Maybe it's all the politics. Idk. I watched My Sassy Girl and enjoyed it, but I couldn't finish Rookie Historian or Love in the Moonlight. Just not my thing.
A trope you hate
Love triangles. Sorry, I just don't like them. Probably bc I always end up rooting for the loser. But it just always makes the person in the middle (usually the girl) seem like a jerk for stringing two people along. Just pick someone. It's not that complicated.
A popular actor you don't care for
Lee Min Ho. I hated him in Boys Over Flowers sooooo much. Mostly bc he played a jerk. But then I tried to watch The Heirs and he still bugged me. He always has this really smug expression on his face that irritates me and he's really not a great actor in my opinion. But, yeah, it's mostly his face.
A popular actress you don't care for
I'm not crazy about Lee Sung Kyung. And a big part of that is probably because she tends to play mean girls. But when she was in Weightlifting Fairy, I thought she did a really good job portraying the depression and emotional turmoil of Kim Bok Joo. Although, they made her walk really weird. Like, she was walking like she had a stick keeping her knees 3 feet apart at all times.
A drama that started off strong but lost its mojo towards the end
For this one I'm saying Just Between Lovers. I was really into this drama when I started it, and I was so on board with the pairing, but in the last few episodes, it felt like we were just buying time. I won't spoil anything in case someone hasn't seen it, but there was a lot of unnecessary back-and-forth, random plot points that came out of nowhere, and so much noble idiocy I wanted to shoot myself. Cute couple, not worth the headache in my opinion.
Well, that's all of them. Hope I didn't offend anyone since these are just my personal thoughts. Feel free to disagree. And try the tag for yourself. Have a good one ;)
Unpopular Opinions Drama Tag
I got bored, so I made a drama tag
