I'm taking peeks into the world of UTAU, and I just found out about Kiki Sagawa. he seems like a good voicebank, and it's fun that there are Finnish UTAUloids. but is he really named after Issei Sagawa, the real life cannibal, murderer and sex pest?? I can't think of any other explanation, since Kiki is supposed to be a cannibal too. it's in such poor taste, I was pretty disappointed when I realized it.

edit: seems like he was created when the creator was still really young, so that explains the distasteful edginess a little bit. their newest UTAU is pretty cool

So sorry for not getting to this sooner! This review probably isn’t of as much use now, but I still wanted to finish it.

Kiki doesn’t have an official website, but the download link can be found on his wiki page.

First Impressions

Kiki has a tomboyish sounding voice with a semi-artificial tone. The voicebank is really well organized and easy to understand. It also has a very impressive range that covers more than two octaves.

Configuration

Kiki comes with 5 pitches, an extra falsetto pitch, and .frq files. His oto is generally solid, but there is a lot of space before each beginning vowel (think the notes like - あ), which may need to be changed in a faster song. He also a rolled r sample. I think it would be slightly better if there was just a setting to switch between regular and rolled Rs rather than a single sample that could be placed in front of a vowel but either way, it works.

There are some inconsistencies within his prefix.map, in order for any notes above C5 to play, you must change the suffix in the prefix.map to “F”. By default, it’s set to C5. Probably just an oversight error, but I wanted to mention it. There are also some mispronunciations in the voicebank (like “wa” being pronounced like “va”).

His breaths are naturally pretty loud....this is more of a personal nitpitck, I just prefer them to be quiet. Lowering the intensity is enough to fix this.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Kiki has a very impressive voice that can even sound good with no tuning. The amount of love put into his voicebank is easily visible. I hope my followers enjoy using him!!
