Artificial kidneys for people with kidney failure may be closer than we think
More than 500k people in the US require dialysis every week due to kidney failure. Some of those people are able to receive organ transplants, but the waiting list is incredibly long and only about 20k people receive transplants every year. On top of that, a person's body can reject the transplanted organ, and even if it is successful the patient will have to take immunosuppressant drugs for the rest of their life.
However, scientists at the University of California San Francisco hope that can be changed. They have created a bioreactor, a sort of artificial organ that can safely perform the functions of a kidney. It is connected directly to the blood vessels and veins, allowing passage of nutrients and oxygen like the actual kidney would. This bioreactor was tested using a type of kidney cell called a proximal tubule cell, which regulates water. These cells are encased in a silicon membrane with nanopores, which allows the cells to do their job while preventing the body's immune system from identifying and attacking them. These bioreactors were tested in pigs, and after a week the animals experienced no ill effects or rejection.
The next steps will be expanding to month long trials, and including more different kinds of cells in the reactor to perform more of the kidney's functions. Though this technology is still far from being perfected, this is a huge step in the direction of treating kidney disease far more easily and effectively!

one of the weird things about life expectancies in warrior cats stretching out as the series goes on is that lionblaze is 8 years old with adult grandchildren and showing no signs of age or even retiring, while yellowfang was depicted as old af when she died at the age of 8.
#warrior cats#yellowfang#lionblaze#in fairness i imagine being invincible for years when he was younger and unable to obtain serious injuries or illness#probably gave him a lifespan boost. but everyone else around him is living forever; thornclaw is fine even though his siblings retired#and they're all old enough to attend secondary school. cats like squirrelflight and whitewing don't seem to have stiffer limbs or grey fur.#i don't think they should have the same lifespan as a typical unmanaged feral colony (only 2 years!) but i think first arc cats#should really have all died of old age a while ago. second arc cats should be retired and starting to pass from old age. and cats from the#third and fourth arcs beginning to feel their age and the older ones retiring.#so a lifespan of about 8-10 years i think? with the odd outlier like mistystar. leaders should probably live another year or two anyhow#because of their extra lives. although normal age related complications would likely start to eat into them once they live for long enough.#(i mean. squirrelstar just go her nine lives. she's probably going to live longer than a cat like tallstar who got them at a younger age#even if she lands up with kidney failure or cancer they haven't been whittled away when she was young via other stuff. i think her living#long enough to take the junior cert is reasonable)#also i think medicine cats would live a bit longer because they don't have to hunt and fight all the time. although older med cats would be#more vulnerable to being killed by a disease outbreak. i think their apprentice would have to take on tasks like herb gathering and treatin#contagious illnesses.

Around 40 000 years ago, Homo Sapiens came to Europe and genocided Homo Neanderthalensis (Adams event?). Thus, all modern humans in Europe and Northern Africa have a bit of Neanderthals DNA.
Logically, the Neanderthals DNA should have disappeared completely in modern humans by now... but it didn't. Why? Most likely because of adaptive introgression: process by which adaptation occurs via genetic variants that were introgressed into the recipient population from the donor population (introgression - incorporation of DNA from one species to the gene pool of another). Sapiens really needed some Neanderthals genes for protection from European infections.
The problem, however, is that Neanderthals genes protect us from infections in a short run. In a long run, our Sapiens bodies start to consider Neanderthals DNI as the alien DNI, causing rejection, which leads to different autoimmune disorders and sometimes even cancer. The bloodline curse we have to bear is paying for sinners of our ancestors...
In particular, biologists and archaeologists established a connection between Neanderthals DNI and kidney membranous neuropathy: the more you have Neanderthals genes, the higher the chance to develop such unpleasant disorder. COVID-19 severity is also dependent on the Neanderthal genome.
Neanderthals had lived in quite cold places in those times, and thus, they had to eat more meat. "Alas, though fat is easier to digest, it’s scarce in cold conditions, as prey animals themselves burn up their fat stores and grow lean. So Neanderthals must have eaten a great deal of protein, which is tough to metabolize and puts heavy demands on the liver and kidneys to remove toxic byproducts. In fact, we humans have a “protein ceiling” of between 35 and 50 percent of our diet; eating too much more can be dangerous. Ben-Dor thinks that Neanderthals’ bodies found a way to utilize more protein, developing enlarged livers and kidneys, and chests and pelvises that widened over the millennia to accommodate these beefed-up organs. To cope with the fat famine, Neanderthals probably also specialized in hunting gigantic animals like mammoths, which retain fat longer in poor conditions and require greater strength but less energy and speed to kill."
Since Neanderthals had such large kidneys, they needed a greater scale of kidney cleansing. And that's why they ate a lot of cranberries and lingonberries: even nowadays, cranberries extract is sold in pharmacies to people with kidney problems.
Cranberries properties: rich in antioxidant compounds, prevention of urinary tract infections, support anti-aging, skin health, heart health, reduce the risk of stomach ulcers, antibacterial properties, protect against certain cancers, support eye health and vision, promote a healthy immune system, etc.
Lingonberries are especially high in the antioxidant "anthocyanins," which is known to prevent oxidation of blood cholesterol and aid in keeping blood vessels healthy. Researchers believe these potent antioxidants may be able to help reduce the risk of heart disease and even some cancers.
Thus, people with kidney memranous neuropathy or with high risk of its development, people with severe post-COVID complications, people with high levels of Neanderthals DNI should come to Lithuania! :D We have a lot of cranberries and lingonberries sold not in pharmacies at wild prices but in average grocery stores! :D

Don’t wanna go into the office tomorrow 🙃 my coworker offered to do damage control to tell people to NOT ask me how things are going cause I’ll be like “oh yeah our week vacation was great but also my favorite cat of the two is dying. Doing awesome!”
He’s slept on the bed the last two nights, we didn’t wanna move him cause that’s where he was finding comfort, so I was sleeping there but wasn’t sleeping great cause I kept waking up to check on him. My husband offered to sleep there tonight so I could rest by sleeping on the couch like he did since I’m supposed to go in tomorrow (my husband teleworks most days) but our cat was like “no 😌” and has been posted up on the hallway rug closer to me. He really is *my* cat.

Common Conditions Treated in Pets with Veterinary Acupuncture
Acupuncture for pets is becoming an increasingly popular choice among pet owners seeking holistic and natural approaches to animal health care. This ancient practice, rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine, involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate healing and relieve pain. Pet acupuncture can be used to treat a variety of conditions, enhancing the quality of life for many furry companions. In this blog, we'll explore some of the most common conditions that acupuncture can treat in animals.
Tumblr media
Common Conditions Treated with Veterinary Acupuncture
1. Arthritis and Joint Pain
One of the most common uses of acupuncture for pets is the treatment of arthritis and joint pain. As pets age, they often develop osteoarthritis, leading to stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility. Acupuncture can help alleviate pain, reduce inflammation, and improve joint function. Regular acupuncture sessions can make a significant difference in the comfort and mobility of senior pets, allowing them to enjoy a better quality of life.
2. Hip Dysplasia
Hip dysplasia is a genetic condition that affects the hip joints, causing pain and mobility issues. It is particularly common in large dog breeds. Pet acupuncture can be an effective treatment option for managing the pain and discomfort associated with hip dysplasia. By targeting specific acupuncture points, this therapy can help reduce inflammation, improve blood flow, and enhance overall joint function.
3. Digestive Issues
Digestive problems, such as chronic diarrhea, constipation, and vomiting, can be distressing for both pets and their owners. Acupuncture can help regulate the digestive system, promote better gastrointestinal function, and alleviate discomfort. This natural approach can be particularly beneficial for pets with sensitive stomachs or those who have not responded well to conventional treatments.
4. Anxiety and Stress
Just like humans, pets can experience anxiety and stress. Whether it's due to separation anxiety, loud noises, or changes in their environment, these emotional issues can significantly impact a pet's well-being. Acupuncture for pets can help calm the nervous system, reduce anxiety, and promote a sense of relaxation. This treatment can be especially helpful for pets with behavioral issues or those undergoing stressful situations, such as moving to a new home or adapting to a new family member.
5. Chronic Pain Management
Pets suffering from chronic pain due to conditions like intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), cancer, or post-surgical recovery can benefit from acupuncture. This therapy helps manage pain without the need for heavy medication, making it a safe option for long-term pain management. By stimulating the body's natural pain-relief mechanisms, acupuncture can provide relief and improve the overall quality of life for pets with chronic pain.
6. Allergies and Skin Conditions
Acupuncture can also be beneficial for pets with allergies and skin conditions. Conditions like atopic dermatitis, flea allergies, and food allergies can cause significant discomfort and itching. Pet acupuncture can help boost the immune system, reduce inflammation, and promote healing of the skin. This treatment can be used in conjunction with other therapies to provide comprehensive care for pets with persistent skin issues.
7. Kidney Disease
Kidney disease is a common condition in older cats and dogs. Acupuncture can support kidney function, improve circulation, and enhance overall health. While it may not cure kidney disease, acupuncture can help manage symptoms, reduce discomfort, and slow the progression of the disease.
8. Neurological Disorders
Neurological disorders such as seizures, neuropathy, and degenerative myelopathy can be challenging to manage with conventional treatments alone. Acupuncture can offer a complementary approach to traditional treatments, helping to reduce the frequency and severity of seizures, improve nerve function, and support the overall neurological health of pets.
Choosing the Right Veterinary Care for Your Pet
When considering acupuncture for your pet, it is essential to choose a qualified and experienced veterinarian. Cascade Summit Animal Hospital offers professional pet acupuncture services, ensuring your pet receives the best possible care. Their team of skilled veterinarians is trained in both conventional and holistic treatments, providing a balanced approach to your pet's health care needs.
Conclusion
Acupuncture for pets offers a natural and effective way to manage a variety of common conditions, from arthritis and hip dysplasia to anxiety and chronic pain. By targeting specific points on the body, acupuncture can stimulate healing, reduce pain, and improve overall well-being. If you're looking for a holistic approach to your pet's health, consider the benefits of pet acupuncture. Natural and homeopathic solutions for high creatinine and kidney failure treatments without dialysis
Tumblr media
High creatinine levels and kidney failure are serious health concerns that require immediate attention. Traditionally, dialysis has been the primary treatment for severe kidney issues, but many people seek kidney failure treatment without dialysis. This article explores various natural and homeopathic treatments for high creatinine and chronic kidney disease, focusing on comprehensive approaches that promote kidney health.
Understanding High Creatinine and Kidney Failure
Creatinine is a waste product produced by muscle metabolism, and healthy kidneys filter it out of the blood. High creatinine levels indicate that the kidneys are not functioning properly, which can lead to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and, eventually, kidney failure. Symptoms of high creatinine treatment and kidney failure include fatigue, swelling, shortness of breath, and confusion.
Kidney Failure Treatment Without Dialysis
For those looking to avoid or supplement dialysis, there are several effective treatments available that focus on improving kidney function and reducing creatinine levels naturally.
Lifestyle and Dietary Changes
Adopting a kidney-friendly lifestyle is essential for managing high creatinine and kidney failure:
Balanced Diet: Consuming a diet low in sodium, potassium, and phosphorus can prevent further kidney damage. Focus on eating fresh fruits, vegetables, and lean proteins.
Hydration: Staying adequately hydrated helps the kidneys filter out toxins. However, fluid intake should be monitored based on the severity of kidney function.
Exercise: Regular physical activity can improve overall health and help manage conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure that contribute to kidney disease.
Herbal Remedies
Several herbs are known for their benefits in managing high creatinine levels and promoting kidney health:
Dandelion Root: Acts as a diuretic, helping the kidneys remove waste and excess water.
Stinging Nettle: Known for its anti-inflammatory properties, it can aid in reducing creatinine levels.
Turmeric: Contains curcumin, which has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects that support kidney health.
Chronic Kidney Disease Treatment
Chronic kidney disease treatment aims to slow the progression of the disease and improve kidney function:
Blood Pressure Management: Controlling high blood pressure is crucial for preventing further kidney damage. Lifestyle changes and medications may be necessary.
Blood Sugar Control: For diabetic patients, maintaining optimal blood sugar levels can prevent kidney complications.
Medication: Prescribed medications can help manage symptoms and underlying causes of CKD, such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
Homeopathic Medicine for High Creatinine
Homeopathic medicine for high creatinine offers a holistic approach to managing high creatinine and kidney failure. Homeopathic treatments are tailored to the individual’s symptoms and overall health, aiming to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes.
Homeopathic Treatment for Kidney Failure
Homeopathic treatment for kidney failure involves a detailed consultation with a homeopath who will prescribe remedies based on the patient’s specific symptoms and health status. This personalized approach aims to improve kidney function and overall health.
Kidney Treatment by Homeopathy
Homeopathy treats kidney disease by addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of the condition. Remedies are selected to match the patient’s unique symptom profile, ensuring a holistic approach to treatment.
Combining Treatments for Optimal Results
Integrating lifestyle changes, natural remedies, and homeopathic treatment for kidney failure can provide a comprehensive approach to managing high creatinine and kidney failure:
Stress Management
Stress can exacerbate kidney problems. Practices like yoga, meditation, and deep-breathing exercises can help alleviate stress and enhance overall well-being. These practices not only alleviate stress but also enhance overall health, supporting kidney function.
Regular Monitoring
Regular check-ups with healthcare providers are essential to monitor kidney function and adjust treatments as necessary. Blood tests to measure creatinine levels and kidney function should be done periodically to track progress.
Nutritional Support
Working with a nutritionist can help tailor a diet plan that supports kidney health. A kidney-friendly diet, combined with appropriate supplements, can make a significant difference in managing the condition.
Conclusion
Finding an effective treatment for kidney failure without dialysis involves a combination of lifestyle changes, herbal remedies, and homeopathic medicine. By addressing the condition holistically and maintaining a consistent treatment plan, it is possible to manage high creatinine levels and improve kidney function. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new treatment regimen to ensure it is safe and suitable for your specific needs.
